Using Photoshop For My College Magazine
1. Using Photoshop for my College Magazine For my college magazine I edited my photo in Photoshop and then I put the magazine together using it too because it has the facilities to make it look more professional that any other editing software. This PowerPoint is to explain what I used to edit my college magazine and how I did it.
2. I chose a medium close up and edited it using curves to give it the effect I wanted. Then I used the magnetic lasso to cut round the singer so I could put him onto a plain background. Once I had cut him out and pasted him onto a plain background the edges were a bit rough so I used the eraser tool to blend it so it looked smoother and looked less like I’d just cut him out.
3. I changed the background colour to black using the fill tool and added a red rectangle for my skyline. I also added the masthead for the magazine in a bold and interesting font. I positioned the photo of the singer slightly over the masthead to show that the magazine was almost bursting with things you would want to read.
4. I turned my masthead red and I added a clipping mask to it by using the brush tool and clicking the create clipping mask button but once I’d done this I decided I didn’t like it as much because it made it too fuzzy and a little hard to read so I decided to keep it just a simple red.
5. I added the main stories headline in blue and a different font to make it stand out from the masthead. I used a brush I had downloaded from psbrushes.net and put a film strip underneath the masthead to make a link with the magazine and the subject it’s about.
6. I used a different brush of a film strip to add the cover lines at the bottom of the page. I then added text to it and to the skyline that would help attract the reader and make them want to read it.
7. I decided to change the colour of the masthead to the same s the colour I used for the cover lines so that it balanced the front cover out and make it look more professional.
8. I added a prize label for it, and in my research for college magazines I found out that they are usually free so I had mine free as well, it would appear to my target audience more this way too. I also added a cover line to the side to make it look more like the other college magazines
9. I started on my contents page for my magazine and I use the brush of a film onto the title on this page so that there was a clear link from the front cover to the contents and a theme to the magazine. I also used the same red to keep the colour scheme the same throughout the magazine.
10. I think used to photos I had taken myself to use on the contents page to make it look interesting and catch the readers attention. I made sure any people in the photos were happy so that the student would think the college was so good that everyone was happy.
11. I edited a photo I had taken and used curves to make it look more interesting. I added this photo which was the same band as the one on the front cover because I wanted to carry the story on inside and the band is quite well known so they would want to see more photos from the concert later in the magazine.
12. I positioned the photos at strange angles to make the contents page more interesting and I put the regulars that would appear in the magazine every week at the bottom right hand corner so you can see it but it wouldn’t be as noticeable as the special features in this months issue.
13. I also put the special features in this months issue at the top of the page with page references. I also added captions to the photos to tell the readers what page the stories were on.
