Human Resources Manager (2004–2015)
Performed dual role as member of leadership team for 180-employee major home furnishings retailer,
responsible for leading corporate human resources and marketing functions. Directed all employee administration
and support functions, including talent management, employee relations, policies and regulations, training,
compensation, payroll, terminations, and talent acquisition. Oversaw Coordinator responsible for recruitment and
support functions. In marketing role, developed and executed promotions, sponsorships, and advertising.
• Established and defined human resources function as company’s first full-time HR manager. Conducted
needs analysis, developed employee relations protocols, and instituted related processes.
• Provided employee relations for all administrative, sales, warehouse, and operations staff. Conducted
investigations, managed employee documentation processes, and handled terminations.
• Determined compensation for newly hired employees through benchmarking of education, skills and
qualifications, and market data.
• Created comprehensive HR handbook distributed to all employees. Analyzed labor laws and partnered
with labor counsel to write, review, and update policies and to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
• Developed employee code of conduct used in managing employee performance standards, and outlining
policies and procedures. Created corresponding policies, including vacation and PTO.
• Managed employee training and development. Developed situational and hands-on training customer
service training. Prepared staff for leadership roles through coaching and stretch assignments.
• Represented company in government labor disputes and mediations. Implemented employee
documentation procedures for disciplinary action, driving savings through successful mediations.
