3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I have enjoyed using Photoshop for both photo manipulation and animation. I think
I enjoyed these the most as I was able to completely focus on those processes and
did not have to go and shoot more clips if the product was not long enough
because it was a ‘flat’ product. I have also enjoyed exploring the creative sides
of both these processes, such as using colour palettes, as I have not done many
creative projects in the past.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• I found planning the most challenging this year. I think I struggled with
planning as I want to jump into the production elements, however at this point in
the year I have realised the benefits of planning out your work. My Music Video
Project suffered from lack of planning as I needed more clips for the length of
the song and was having to collect them as I was editing. I believe the same
issue occurred in my Audio Project but by the Adventure Project I have combatted
it.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I believe my planning has developed massively since the beginning of the year. I
have learnt how to better organise my idea into a solid product and how to
arrange aspects of the product so I am best prepared for production. I have found
the planning in the Adventure section most evidential of my progress in planning
as I have consistently developed throughout the year. I have found even small
amounts of planning such as colour schemes and font choices are extremely helpful
in assisting the entire production.
6. Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I think my strongest technical skill is using Photoshop, particularly photo
manipulation. An example of this skill is in my poster for the Adventure Project
as I created the ‘fireball’ in the hands completely though Photoshop and layering
different opacity layers of the paintbrush layer. It is also a skill I have had
practice in before college as I had used other photo editor applications so had
some foundation knowledge in the app. I also find it easy to find information
online about a problem I’m facing with Photoshop.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think the Adventure project has been my best project as I have refined planning
and research skills throughout the year so I had better preparation for the
production elements. I also think I will have performed best in this project as
it was the most inspiring project. I particularly enjoyed the animation element
as it is a completely new skill for me and I enjoyed the freedom within the
brief. I also liked adding a humorous spin on the animation as a lot of pixel art
games can be funny.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I enjoyed the Audio Project the least because I like to use music to help me
focus but it is hard to focus on editing sound clips when there is music playing
so I couldn’t play music. I also found it hard to connect with the project as I
find visual mediums easier to work with and find flaws in. The Foley work was
good practice for the future but was hard to capture properly, either due to
background noise or the actual sound being too quiet.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• I have not been coming into college as often as I should have throughout the year
but I have made sure to catch up with work at home and use sick days effectively
to keep up to date with everything. I make sure not to get distracted during
lesson time to use my time as best as possible. I have to make sure my time is
managed efficiently as I have a part time job as well as college.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• Despite wanting to do Film at University, I would like to pursue animation in my
FMP. I want to do animation in my FMP as I will be able manage my time more
efficiently as I won’t be reliant on filming shots outside of college to edit so
all of the time in college during the production weeks can be spent on my
animation. There is also less room for error as I won't be reliant on my shots
being steady and in focus and am able to re-watch the animation multiple times
for each frame added to inspect any errors.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• In September I will, hopefully, be going to University instead of continuing the
Creative Media course at York College. My first choice is Filmmaking at Leeds
Beckett University and second choice is Film Studies and Film Production at
Worcester University. I should have the chance to do a working year whilst at
university which would give me much-needed experience and a stepping stone into
the industry. I would also like to find a part time job within the university
city to support myself. After my university course I will most likely start
working but I will consider continuing education and studying a postgraduate
course to further my knowledge.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• I would like to research what I could do over the summer holidays to progress my
film knowledge. I think an online course in film critiquing or production would
be beneficial. I also need to organise accommodation and funding and have
knowledge of my firm and conditional offers cities and campuses.
• I want to put some effort and research into my options after university, so I
have some awareness when starting my undergraduate degree of what I can follow on
to, such as career options or postgraduate degrees I could undertake to further
my specialism. This could be at the same university or possibly moving to a more
specialised location.
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
