3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I have enjoyed working on the projects involving cameras the most. For example, I
loved making the music video as filming is something that I would like to do as a
possible career choice in the future. I also liked taking the photos for the
adventure project as I love working with the camera in any medium. I also enjoyed
the editing side of it too, on the adobe systems photoshop and premiere pro.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• The work that I have found the most challenging in my opinion would possibly be
the audio tasks. This is because this is the medium I am the least familiar with
it compared to the other areas that we explored this year. I tried to put in the
same level of detail and interest into this projects but it was ultimately lower
than the rest of my projects
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I think I have had the most development in learning the technology this year, for
example using the adobe systems like premiere pro for video editing and photoshop
for photo/image editing. Before this course, I have only ever used photoshop a
few times briefly and that was over 4 years before this course so many things
have changed between then and now.
6. Which technical skill do you think is your
strongest?
• I would like to say that my strongest technical skill would be whilst using a
camera, be it filming a video or taking photos on it. I think that my music video
shows this strength well as all but two of the clips I used in the music video I
actually filmed myself. I thought the framing was good for the shots I did using
the camera. Also for the adventure movie project, I took photos for the images I
used for it.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think my best project for this year has been the music video that I filmed and
edited. Even though I used stock image for a couple of the shots (so all the
footage wasn’t mine) I edited it enough in the post production using adobe
premiere pro for it to be different enough to call my own work. The rest of the
footage I filmed myself with the camera I borrowed from college and filmed in
York city centre and Scarborough.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I think I enjoyed the audio project the least. In my opinion, I think this is
because I have never had an interest in audio editing, even though I know I will
need to use some of it for filming in the future so that I get a good sound
quality for the video. For example, if I decide to make my own small filming
company, I will have to use all mediums of it to get a completed piece of
entertainment.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• My time management has not been the best this year but I do believe it has
improved from my previous college course last year. One factor that lead to my
poor time management last year was the fact that all my lessons were based online
and I barely ever asked for help, leading me to get left behind as new work was
coming in. This year, I think it has became more effective as all my lessons are
in person and I am beginning to ask for help in class more often. I still have a
while to go to get to my peak effectiveness.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I would like to do a video based FMP as I believe it is the strongest of my
talents. I know my way around the cameras that college uses so I wont have to
learn about that, extending the time that I can use for production. I have also
used premiere pro on multiple projects so I should hopefully be more efficient
and polished in my editing skills. I know it wont be perfect as its still my
first year but it'll be a contrast between my music video which I made at the
start of the college year. I would also specialise filming and camera work in my
second year of this course if I get into it.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• At the end of the course next year I am planning on going one of two ways. One
way is to look for apprenticeships for filming and camera operating in filming
companies local to the area, like York and Leeds. There are places like Amazon
movies, BBC and ITV in Leeds so before the college year ends (either this year or
next year), I will have a look at those to see if there are any going and closer
to he time, I’ll apply. The other option I am thinking off is attending
university in somewhere close like York or Leeds, but if I cannot get into those
places, I’ll still have a look at other places close by where I can with my
grades.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• For looking for an apprenticeship, I will choose places close to me so I wont
have to move out of my home to get this. I will go onto their websites and search
to see if they do apprenticeships for A-Level students. This will give me a job
so I am still gaining money whilst learning. For looking for universities to go
to instead of the apprenticeship, my main criteria is to see which will actually
let me in with the grades I will hopefully get from my second year. With those
universities, I will apply to the 2 closest to me, plus one in York and one in
Leeds so I still have the option of one close to home.
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
