8. Academic History
• Well I haven’t actually studied anything to do with media in high school as
there weren’t any classes that taught it, however my first year of college I
joined a creative media course one which I am currently still on. The first
year taught me many different skills within the media world for example
things like how to use a camera and how to edit photos and videos on
specific software. These things I learnt from the first year made me want
to progress onto the second year because I wanted to learn other skills
that I had not been taught in the first year plus I could use the useful skills
I learnt previously to try and improve my projects for the 2nd year.
9. Current Study
• The course I am currently on which is the extended diploma in creative
media production and technology has helped me in many ways when it
comes to showing my creative side. I have acquired many skills in things
like how to operate a camera and using different editing software to
produce high end work. I have created things like a music video, an
adventure style game, a horror audio project and then for the FMP I
created a website which was selling sunglasses. Creating all of these
interesting projects made me want to progress further so that I could
enhance these skills and hopefully in the future create something a lot
better and of higher quality.
10. The Future
• For the future I would very much like to get a job in some form of the
media industry, I haven’t fully made my mind up on which area of the
industry I would want to work in but It would definitely have to be on the
practical side. I would say university would help me achieve this goal as
you gain a lot more experience about the media and learn many new skills
that would give me a step up into working. For example if I had plenty of
experience operating cameras then a company that is looking for camera
operators would see that I have experience and would most likely hire me
over someone that hasn’t had any. I would also say that university grades
would increase the chances of getting a job as that’s what they look for.
12. Conclusion
• the simple answer as to why I want to go to university is to gain more
experience within the media industry and overall learn skills that will help
me to get into a job that i will like. I am a good candidate because I am
determined and hard working when I am going after something I very
much want.
14. Which projects have you enjoyed most
this year & why?
• The projects that I have enjoyed the most this year would definitely be
doing the FMP project as we were able to do whatever we wanted so I
enjoyed having the freedom to create something that I had a real passion
for. Another project I would say I enjoyed was the adventure project, the
elements of that project that I specifically liked was creating a synopsis
and just creating the whole game in general. I was glad the topic was an
adventure as there are many different elements within the adventure
genre that I was able to come up with.
15. Which projects have you least enjoyed
[& why]?
• The project that I least enjoyed for the first year would have to be the
music video. My reason for this is because the plan I had originally to film
certain things went badly and didn’t work out so it ended up in me sort of
forgetting about it and not doing much for the video which lead me to
becoming behind of that section of the course so that is why I would say I
didn’t enjoy that project compared to the other ones.
16. What is you biggest success
• I would say my biggest success within the first year would overall just
learning many new skills as I had never done anything like it in the past so
It was most definitely an eye opener to start something new and enjoy it
so quickly. For example things like learning the basics of how to use a good
quality camera and understanding all the different parts to it and all the
different settings you can use. Aswell as learning any new skills another
biggest success would have to be creating all the projects and getting my
ideas out there and creating something I was happy with.
17. What has been your biggest mistake in
coursework
• The biggest mistake in my coursework would have to be handing things in
when the deadline has been set. I have to say that my time management
for handing in pieces of work was the one thing that let me down in the
first year as it led to being a little behind on certain projects and missing
out crucial weeks that should’ve been used for planning other things.
Following from that my time management really didn’t help when I had
bits of work missing as it led me to just writing things quickly and not
putting enough time and effort into it, this meant it affected my overall
grade as some things were more detailed than others.
18. Which skills do you think you have
develop most?
• The skills that I think I have developed the most from this first year would
have to be the technical skills with cameras and software, this is probably
a common answer but going into the first year I had absolutely no clue
about how to operate cameras and use different computer software so
that for me is the one thing I have developed the most.
Editor's Notes
Write a short paragraph about subjects you’ve already studied at school/college that have helped prepare you for your chosen courses at University- level 2 or GCSE level. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Talk about this course- Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology. Reference how it has helped you prepare for your chosen courses at University. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Reference specific projects and software/hardware that you are familiar with.
What do you want to do in the future (ensure it is related to the subjects you are applying for). How will university help you to achieve that?
What do you do outside college? Any hobbies, part time jobs, client work, volunteer work? How does this make you a better candidate for university study?
Summarise why you want to go to university. What will it help you achieve? Why are you a good candidate?
