3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I think that I enjoyed the Pixel Art project the most. This is because I got to
use different pieces of software to create assets for my own game. I then got to
animate and show off part of the game.
• However, the creation of the music video was very fun as well. I liked the
filming side of the production because it was fun learning about / using the
camera, and setting up the area that we were filming on. I also really enjoyed
learning about / using Premier Pro, and adding different backgrounds to the green
screen. I also enjoyed adding in detail, and making them move in different ways.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• At first, I didn’t know how to effectively use most of the software pieces. This
was mainly because I hadn’t used them very much in high school.
• I also didn’t know how to properly operate a camera. I needed to know this for
the music video production.
• In the planning of most projects, I have struggled with the idea production and
planning (at the start). But once I had a thought, the ideas started to flow as I
got more confident with how I was going to develop the project.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I think that I have made the most development in using different types of
software to create assets, or bring together a piece of work.
• Photoshop can be used to create the background, characters, rewards, and
equipment.
• Premier Pro can be used to make the different assets into an animation. You can
also add sound effects and music, if necessary.
• I have also developed in using the camera, and setting it up for different shots.
6. Which technical skill do you think is your
strongest?
• I think that my strongest technical skill is using Photoshop and Premier Pro to
create and edit assets for various different projects.
• I learnt a lot when we were doing the movie side of the game creation project.
Dave and Scott taught me a lot when I was creating the movie poster, magazine
front cover, and the magazine double page spread.
• I had used Photoshop before to create the Illustrated Sector Guide for the Job
Roles Brief PowerPoint. It wasn’t anywhere near advanced to what I had done for
the movie poster.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think that my music video project turned out as one of the better ones. The
planning was slightly difficult to do because I was unsure about where I wanted
to film it. The production went a lot better after I talked to Scott about what
would be possible. I filmed it in the college studio with a green screen behind
the performers. I then edited the video using Premier Pro, and I learned a lot in
the process.
• I also think that the game creation project went well. The planning for the game
was linked in with the movie: Volatile Villain. The production started by making
a few ideas for different level settings, using the website Pixilart.com. I then
started to make the actual assets in Pixilart to then move them all over to
Photoshop to make them higher quality. In the end I think that this project
turned out to be one of the better ones.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I don’t really think that I didn’t enjoy any project. I like them all in one way or
another.
• I think that I enjoyed the audio project the least because I hate having to record
audio.
• However, I did enjoy the writing of the story for the project. I also enjoyed the
editing part of the project because I got to make my own sound effects (and take some
from the internet) for the project. I liked it when I got to edit the sound effects,
so that they would sound differently.
• The key movie was a little bit unenjoyable because I didn’t really like having to be
on the camera, also the editing wasn’t that great because it was my first time using
Premier Pro.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• I would say that for most projects, I finished them on time. For some of them I
had to have an extra day or two to finish everything off.
• I would spend the first few weeks working on the initial ideas, research, and
planning. Then I would spend a couple of weeks working on the production, and
editing. And finally, I would spend a week or so evaluating the project.
• Linking back to the question – I have worked my hardest to stick to the deadlines
for each part of the projects over the past academic year.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I see myself working on the 'behind the scenes' parts of various projects. By
this I mean, that I like to do a lot of the technical things:
• Operating the camera when needed,
• Setting up the stage / scene for the recording session,
• Planning locations for the recording,
• Writing down descriptive ideas about what should be done for the particular
project.
• I don't like being in the shot. I much prefer being the person behind the camera
and out of the way. (72)
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• I really don't know what I see myself doing at the end of the course next year.
• It would most definitely be something to do with camera work and graphic design.
• I really enjoy working on Photoshop because you can feel free to make anything
that you imagine.
• The project at the end of next year would have to be, without a doubt, a
much bigger and more important project than the one this year.
• I want to aim for a Merit or ,even better, a Distinction.
• I might create a documentary, or a large collage. Something to do with cameras, I
think.
• (104).
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• I will need to do more research on Universities, what skills and qualifications I
need to have to get into them, where they are in the country, prices etc.
• Create a few plans on what I might want to do after college, and even whilst I'm
still in college.
• I will need to obviously plan on what I am going to be doing whilst I am in
college, and what it could lead to – University courses, and jobs after that.
• I will need to plan and research what things I will have to do in those
University courses and what jobs they could lead me into.
• (108).
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
