FMP Evaluation
Harry Adkins-Pennington
Production Process
Evaluation
ResearchStrengths:
• For the four games that I had done research on, I
went into detailon different aspects on each game
like gameplay, audience appeal and the development
of each game to help me understand how I can
create and improve my game
• I had gone into detail on how the second-hand
audience research given to me from sites like
YouGOV.comcould help me with my FMP
• I went into detail on how each parts of each game
will be used in my final product
Weaknesses:
• For the audience research, I couldn't get many
people to help me out with my research
• For the subject research, I only used one example for
the research althoughI went into detailon the
example and how it could help me with my FMP
• For the last two games in my research, Final Fantasy
7 and Megaman, I could not go into as much detail as
the first two games, Super Mario Bros and Sonic.exe
due to not being able to gain as much information
about the games compared to Mario and Sonic.exe
To Improve:
• Focus more on first-hand research rather than second-hand research by creating more surveys and sending more
out to more people to get the farthest range of answers
• Use more examples for subject research to get a better understand how certain parts of different products work
PlanningStrengths:
• All of my importantideas from my plans
have come to fruition during production
• The planning allowed me to know what I
needed to do during each week while
allowing me to have some time to help
other studentswith their project if
necessary
• All problems from contingencyplanning and
health and safety had been avoided during
production
Weaknesses:
• I had to remove a few of my unnecessary
ideas due to time restrictionsand helping
other studentswith their FMP in order to
finish the main product on time
• Some of the more unnecessary ideas were
too large to be added to the final product
• During production, I had to swap certain
tasks around my timetable in order to fit
helping out other studentsand completing
other parts of my project
To Improve:
• Instead of planning massive ideas and not implementing them into the game, causing me to
slow down and do worse on my project come up with smaller, easier ideas and build up on
them
Time Management
Strengths:
• I spent each day working through my
project and improving it over time
• The time I spent in college was used
working on the project while my time
at home was used to work on the
development diary entries each day
Weaknesses:
• Because I had been helping another
student with their product, I didn't
spend as much time to develop my
product as I would've liked
To Improve:
• Try to spend more time working on my own FMP instead of helping other
students with theirs so the final project could've been improved more
Technical Qualities
Strengths:
• The animation of the
"press start" fading in and
out of the screen makes it
look and feel like a game
Weaknesses:
• There is no other
animation aside from the
fades which is dull and not
important
Strengths:
• The selection
border appearing
and disappearing
makes it look like
the player is trying
to choose which
character to play
the game with
Weaknesses:
• There is barely any
proper animation aside
from the selection
border appearing and
disappearing which is
quite boring
Strengths:
• The running
animation is
smooth and fluid,
making the game
look more
professional
Weaknesses:
• The jumping
animation looks out
of place compared
to the rest of the
animation
Strengths:
• The trees do not look
that good in the
background
Weaknesses:
• There is no transition
from this level to the
RPG fight like I had
planned
Strengths:
• The selection border
help make the video
look more like
gameplay
Weaknesses:
• There's no flash to red
before transitioning to
the final shot of Blood
Sonic tauntingthe
player which is dull
and boring
Strengths:
• The lack of
animation could
make the scene
more intimidating
Weaknesses:
• There is no animation
Aesthetic QualitiesStrengths:
• Animation of the fade in
and fade out is smooth
and fluid
• The music works quite
well with the pixel art
style
• The designs of the portals
are surprisingly good
Weaknesses:
• Bland design
• The portals are not
implemented into the
background well
• The moon does not look
as good as I would've
hoped

• The screen is
colourful, using
colours that match
the YouTuber
• The profile images I
made of each
YouTuber matches
well with their
iconic looks
• The logos are
detailed which
works well that
because it shows
my target audience
who each of the
characters are
Weaknesses:
• The background is just
solid colours which
does not look as good
as something like a
small animation in the
background
• The profile picture of
Jack does not match
the full body design of
him in the game
Weaknesses:
• Jack has no idle
animation which
makes it dull and
boring
• The level doesn't
move while Jack is
moving, only when
Jack gets to the other
side of the screen
which is very dull
when there isn't
anything important to
show
Strengths:
• The background is
bright and colourful
which works well
with Jack's design
• The animation is
smooth which
makes the game
look and feel more
like a game
Weaknesses:
• The trees did not look
as good as I had hoped
and they don't look like
they are slowly dying
• The orange sky does
not look as good as I
wanted it to, I planned
on having it look like it
is burning, similar to
the rest of the level
Strengths:
• The background is
more dark and gritty
which contrasts with
Jack's design
Weaknesses:
• The RPG fight finished
too quick in my
opinion
• There isn't any extra
animation to make the
fight more interesting
Strengths:
• The video itself shows
my target audience
that it looks like an
RPG fight by not
having either
character move until
the player selects an
option in front of
them
Weaknesses:
• There is nothing
interestingaside from
the idea that it is Blood
Sonic is speaking to the
player
Strengths:
• The text is a dark
red which matches
well with the black
background and
makes the scene
more intimidating
Technical Qualities-Overall
Strengths:
• The animation is smooth and fluid
Weaknesses:
Aesthetic Qualities- Overall
Strengths:
• The backgrounds are bright and
colourful, except for the sky during
the second level
Weaknesses:

What did you like about the product?
• I enjoyed the music and artwork in the animation, the music fit well in terms of
the pixel style and reminded me a lot of Undertale.
• The quality of most of the artwork is also very detailed, mainly the logos at the
selection screen and the Jack playable character, and clearly references popular
pixel designs such as Scott Pilgrim.
• I also liked how fluid the animation was as well as slow in order to mirror past pixel
style games
What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I didn't enjoy how the music cut out and then another piece resumed after too
long of a pause as well as the lack of sound effects, such as selection noises,
shooting noises etc, which may have enhanced the animation and made it more
believable gameplay.

What did you like about the product?
• The running animation on Jack (or Sean, if you prefer) is very nice
• I appreciate the choice of music that you chose to remix for this project
• The pixel art model of Jack is simple but pleasing to the eye. Very Scott Pilgrim-y
What improvements could have been made to the product?
• The jumping animation for Jack looks incredibly out of place in comparison to the
running animation
• Sound effects beyond the music would be enjoyable to hear

• The animations look really good and effective
• I like the colours on the character menu
• The music sounds really uplifting
• The text is a good size and it stands out against the backgrounds
What improvements could have been made to the product?
• The orange sky in the second level could be slightly darker

• The music does cut off suddenly and another piece starts randomly which doesn’t
work

• The pixel art style being similar to the Scott Pilgrim games works well

• That the orange sky should be a darker shade of orange

What changes would you make to your product based upon your peer feedback and
why?
• Use a sort of fade for the music so it doesn't use a sudden cut of the music
• Use a different type of jumping animation like having Jack roll up to do a
somersault in the air
• Add some sound effects for simple stuff like when selecting a character or when
Jack punches Blood Sonic so it looks and feels like a game

Fmp evaluation

  • 3. ResearchStrengths: • For the four games that I had done research on, I went into detailon different aspects on each game like gameplay, audience appeal and the development of each game to help me understand how I can create and improve my game • I had gone into detail on how the second-hand audience research given to me from sites like YouGOV.comcould help me with my FMP • I went into detail on how each parts of each game will be used in my final product Weaknesses: • For the audience research, I couldn't get many people to help me out with my research • For the subject research, I only used one example for the research althoughI went into detailon the example and how it could help me with my FMP • For the last two games in my research, Final Fantasy 7 and Megaman, I could not go into as much detail as the first two games, Super Mario Bros and Sonic.exe due to not being able to gain as much information about the games compared to Mario and Sonic.exe To Improve: • Focus more on first-hand research rather than second-hand research by creating more surveys and sending more out to more people to get the farthest range of answers • Use more examples for subject research to get a better understand how certain parts of different products work

PlanningStrengths: • All of my importantideas from my plans have come to fruition during production • The planning allowed me to know what I needed to do during each week while allowing me to have some time to help other studentswith their project if necessary • All problems from contingencyplanning and health and safety had been avoided during production Weaknesses: • I had to remove a few of my unnecessary ideas due to time restrictionsand helping other studentswith their FMP in order to finish the main product on time • Some of the more unnecessary ideas were too large to be added to the final product • During production, I had to swap certain tasks around my timetable in order to fit helping out other studentsand completing other parts of my project To Improve: • Instead of planning massive ideas and not implementing them into the game, causing me to slow down and do worse on my project come up with smaller, easier ideas and build up on them

Time Management Strengths: • I spent each day working through my project and improving it over time • The time I spent in college was used working on the project while my time at home was used to work on the development diary entries each day Weaknesses: • Because I had been helping another student with their product, I didn't spend as much time to develop my product as I would've liked To Improve: • Try to spend more time working on my own FMP instead of helping other students with theirs so the final project could've been improved more
  • 6. Technical Qualities Strengths: • The animation of the "press start" fading in and out of the screen makes it look and feel like a game Weaknesses: • There is no other animation aside from the fades which is dull and not important
  • 7. Strengths: • The selection border appearing and disappearing makes it look like the player is trying to choose which character to play the game with Weaknesses: • There is barely any proper animation aside from the selection border appearing and disappearing which is quite boring
  • 8. Strengths: • The running animation is smooth and fluid, making the game look more professional Weaknesses: • The jumping animation looks out of place compared to the rest of the animation
  • 9. Strengths: • The trees do not look that good in the background Weaknesses: • There is no transition from this level to the RPG fight like I had planned
  • 10. Strengths: • The selection border help make the video look more like gameplay Weaknesses: • There's no flash to red before transitioning to the final shot of Blood Sonic tauntingthe player which is dull and boring
  • 11. Strengths: • The lack of animation could make the scene more intimidating Weaknesses: • There is no animation

Aesthetic QualitiesStrengths: • Animation of the fade in and fade out is smooth and fluid • The music works quite well with the pixel art style • The designs of the portals are surprisingly good Weaknesses: • Bland design • The portals are not implemented into the background well • The moon does not look as good as I would've hoped

Strengths: • The screen is colourful, using colours that match the YouTuber • The profile images I made of each YouTuber matches well with their iconic looks • The logos are detailed which works well that because it shows my target audience who each of the characters are Weaknesses: • The background is just solid colours which does not look as good as something like a small animation in the background • The profile picture of Jack does not match the full body design of him in the game

Weaknesses: • Jack has no idle animation which makes it dull and boring • The level doesn't move while Jack is moving, only when Jack gets to the other side of the screen which is very dull when there isn't anything important to show Strengths: • The background is bright and colourful which works well with Jack's design • The animation is smooth which makes the game look and feel more like a game

Weaknesses: • The trees did not look as good as I had hoped and they don't look like they are slowly dying • The orange sky does not look as good as I wanted it to, I planned on having it look like it is burning, similar to the rest of the level Strengths: • The background is more dark and gritty which contrasts with Jack's design

Weaknesses: • The RPG fight finished too quick in my opinion • There isn't any extra animation to make the fight more interesting Strengths: • The video itself shows my target audience that it looks like an RPG fight by not having either character move until the player selects an option in front of them
  • 17. Weaknesses: • There is nothing interestingaside from the idea that it is Blood Sonic is speaking to the player Strengths: • The text is a dark red which matches well with the black background and makes the scene more intimidating

Feedback 1 What did you like about the product? • I enjoyed the music and artwork in the animation, the music fit well in terms of the pixel style and reminded me a lot of Undertale. • The quality of most of the artwork is also very detailed, mainly the logos at the selection screen and the Jack playable character, and clearly references popular pixel designs such as Scott Pilgrim. • I also liked how fluid the animation was as well as slow in order to mirror past pixel style games What improvements could have been made to the product? • I didn't enjoy how the music cut out and then another piece resumed after too long of a pause as well as the lack of sound effects, such as selection noises, shooting noises etc, which may have enhanced the animation and made it more believable gameplay.

Feedback 2 What did you like about the product? • The running animation on Jack (or Sean, if you prefer) is very nice • I appreciate the choice of music that you chose to remix for this project • The pixel art model of Jack is simple but pleasing to the eye. Very Scott Pilgrim-y What improvements could have been made to the product? • The jumping animation for Jack looks incredibly out of place in comparison to the running animation • Sound effects beyond the music would be enjoyable to hear

Feedback 3 What did you like about the product? • The animations look really good and effective • I like the colours on the character menu • The music sounds really uplifting • The text is a good size and it stands out against the backgrounds What improvements could have been made to the product? • The orange sky in the second level could be slightly darker

Peer Feedback Summary What do you agree with from your peer feedback? • The music does cut off suddenly and another piece starts randomly which doesn’t work • The running animation was smooth and quick which looks good • The pixel art style being similar to the Scott Pilgrim games works well What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? • That the orange sky should be a darker shade of orange

Peer Feedback Summary What changes would you make to your product based upon your peer feedback and why? • Use a sort of fade for the music so it doesn't use a sudden cut of the music • Use a different type of jumping animation like having Jack roll up to do a somersault in the air • Add some sound effects for simple stuff like when selecting a character or when Jack punches Blood Sonic so it looks and feels like a game
