Production Process Evaluation
Research
• The strengths of my research were that I was able to find exactly what I was
looking for, the genre of my game is quite well known which makes
researching games like mine a whole lot easier. Researching different games
that follow the same genre as mine was really helpful because there were
something’s I didn’t necessarily know about turn-based RPG games and my
research gave me the answer to my questions and this helped me make my
game.
• The weaknesses of my research were that I spent a while finding specific
examples of these games because there were way too many to count. Another
weakness was that my game is different compared to most turn-based games
so my research was not 100% accurate. Because my game is different to most
games, I could not have improved my research so easily. The only way to
improve it would be to search for very specific examples which would have
taken much longer. If I did find specific examples for my game then this would
have improved it because I have a concrete example to take inspiration from
which in turn, would make my game much better.
Planning
• My planning was not really that strong but the strengths I could find were
that my production experiment laid out a solid foundation for my final
product which then allowed me too see the issues with my production
experiment so I could improve upon it in the final product.
• The weaknesses of my planning were that my production experiment is
only a small animation and not much could be taken from it to be used in
the final product. The ghost/monster model was changed quite a lot in the
final product which means that the ghost that appeared in my product
experiment is pretty much useless. I could have improved this by adding a
longer and more thought provoking animation. I could have also improved
it by adding a better ghost model because the one used is quite dull and
boring. This may have made my product better because if the ghost had a
better design I could have carried it over to the final product and/or
updated it.
Time Management
• I didn’t manage my time that well because it took me a while to finish
some of the work. I fell behind during the research phase because I was ill
so most of the work has been pretty stressful to finish. We also only had 3
days to create the final product which in my opinion was not a lot of time.
My products probably would have been better with additional time
because I would not have had to cut back on my final product and remove
some of the ideas if we had more than 3 days to make it.
• If there was more time to produce my work then I could have included all
of my ideas from the plans to make the final product which would make
the final product much better in general. If I wasn’t ill earlier on then i
would not have fallen behind or become stressed out with work.
Technical Qualities
The similarities between the two games is that they
both share a similar combat and menu system. Another
similarity between the two is that both of there stories
are based around monsters of some kind. The
differences between the two are that one of them is in
colour whereas the other one is not meaning that the
other product has a more visually appealing
atmosphere compared to mine.
Aesthetic Qualities
My work doesn’t look that good, mainly because of the lack of colour showing
that it doesn’t really have a good atmosphere. I suppose that it was creative to
some extent as I hadn’t really used that much inspiration to make this product. I
don’t really like the visuals because as I had mentioned before, the lack of colours
make the product kind of dull. I would improve it by adding more colour to the
product. The strengths of this product is that it fits the theme of my game but the
weaknesses of my product are that I don’t find it visually appealing.
Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience by designing my game to appeal to younger
audiences. The specific areas that appeal to my target audience are the lack of violence
and graphic themes along with a simple and easy to understand combat system. The
game is a pixel game so it would relate to an older generation.

• What did you like about the product?
– “I like the way that it has been set up to look like a old Gameboy game and has the
potential to be a good end product.”
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– “the strange creature at the top of the screen is very confusing and I am not sure what it
is, the time it takes for the options to come up on screen could also be smoother.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the animation as it swiftly moves over the important text, I also like the
outstanding design of the monster as it has a lot of detail and effort put into it.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I feel like you should divert some of the design as it is similar to Undertale which can
cause copyright issues later on. You should also improve the length of the animation as it
is rather short.

• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the product and the way it was designed it looks retro and the game menu looks
nice with the pixilation.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I would include colours much like the old game boy games available.

• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree with most of the comments regarding my product because the comments that
approve of the game share my thoughts and feelings too. I agree with some of the
negative feedback that was given as well because I feel like the negatives are
understandable and could do with changing.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I don’t disagree with any of the feedback as it is all relevant and can be used to improve
my work.
Peer Feedback Summary
The changes I would make to my product based upon my feedback would be to
include colours so the game feels more alive like the old Gameboy games and
the product would look nicer as well. I should also change my product slightly
as it could cause some copyright issues due to it been similar to another game
as well as making the animation longer because it is too short. I would also
change the monster slightly as it was a random design which confused some of
my target audience.

  • 3. Research • The strengths of my research were that I was able to find exactly what I was looking for, the genre of my game is quite well known which makes researching games like mine a whole lot easier. Researching different games that follow the same genre as mine was really helpful because there were something’s I didn’t necessarily know about turn-based RPG games and my research gave me the answer to my questions and this helped me make my game. • The weaknesses of my research were that I spent a while finding specific examples of these games because there were way too many to count. Another weakness was that my game is different compared to most turn-based games so my research was not 100% accurate. Because my game is different to most games, I could not have improved my research so easily. The only way to improve it would be to search for very specific examples which would have taken much longer. If I did find specific examples for my game then this would have improved it because I have a concrete example to take inspiration from which in turn, would make my game much better.
  • 4. Planning • My planning was not really that strong but the strengths I could find were that my production experiment laid out a solid foundation for my final product which then allowed me too see the issues with my production experiment so I could improve upon it in the final product. • The weaknesses of my planning were that my production experiment is only a small animation and not much could be taken from it to be used in the final product. The ghost/monster model was changed quite a lot in the final product which means that the ghost that appeared in my product experiment is pretty much useless. I could have improved this by adding a longer and more thought provoking animation. I could have also improved it by adding a better ghost model because the one used is quite dull and boring. This may have made my product better because if the ghost had a better design I could have carried it over to the final product and/or updated it.
  • 5. Time Management • I didn’t manage my time that well because it took me a while to finish some of the work. I fell behind during the research phase because I was ill so most of the work has been pretty stressful to finish. We also only had 3 days to create the final product which in my opinion was not a lot of time. My products probably would have been better with additional time because I would not have had to cut back on my final product and remove some of the ideas if we had more than 3 days to make it. • If there was more time to produce my work then I could have included all of my ideas from the plans to make the final product which would make the final product much better in general. If I wasn’t ill earlier on then i would not have fallen behind or become stressed out with work.
  • 6. Technical Qualities The similarities between the two games is that they both share a similar combat and menu system. Another similarity between the two is that both of there stories are based around monsters of some kind. The differences between the two are that one of them is in colour whereas the other one is not meaning that the other product has a more visually appealing atmosphere compared to mine.
  • 7. Aesthetic Qualities My work doesn’t look that good, mainly because of the lack of colour showing that it doesn’t really have a good atmosphere. I suppose that it was creative to some extent as I hadn’t really used that much inspiration to make this product. I don’t really like the visuals because as I had mentioned before, the lack of colours make the product kind of dull. I would improve it by adding more colour to the product. The strengths of this product is that it fits the theme of my game but the weaknesses of my product are that I don’t find it visually appealing.
  • 8. Audience Appeal I have appealed to my target audience by designing my game to appeal to younger audiences. The specific areas that appeal to my target audience are the lack of violence and graphic themes along with a simple and easy to understand combat system. The game is a pixel game so it would relate to an older generation.
  • 10. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – “I like the way that it has been set up to look like a old Gameboy game and has the potential to be a good end product.” • What improvements could have been made to the product? – “the strange creature at the top of the screen is very confusing and I am not sure what it is, the time it takes for the options to come up on screen could also be smoother.
  • 11. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – I like the animation as it swiftly moves over the important text, I also like the outstanding design of the monster as it has a lot of detail and effort put into it. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – I feel like you should divert some of the design as it is similar to Undertale which can cause copyright issues later on. You should also improve the length of the animation as it is rather short.
  • 12. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – I liked the product and the way it was designed it looks retro and the game menu looks nice with the pixilation. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – I would include colours much like the old game boy games available.
  • 13. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? – I agree with most of the comments regarding my product because the comments that approve of the game share my thoughts and feelings too. I agree with some of the negative feedback that was given as well because I feel like the negatives are understandable and could do with changing. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? – I don’t disagree with any of the feedback as it is all relevant and can be used to improve my work.
  • 14. Peer Feedback Summary The changes I would make to my product based upon my feedback would be to include colours so the game feels more alive like the old Gameboy games and the product would look nicer as well. I should also change my product slightly as it could cause some copyright issues due to it been similar to another game as well as making the animation longer because it is too short. I would also change the monster slightly as it was a random design which confused some of my target audience.
