Graphic Design Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
An advantage of using Photoshop to create adverts is that there are a lot of options you can choose from
to improve the advert and make it look more eye-catching. It allows you to practice with the various tools
in Photoshop so you get an idea on how to work and use them.
It’s easy to use but isn’t essentially designed for people that haven’t used any kinds of software that edit
and create photos. It takes time for a person to get used to using the different tools and techniques to
create/ edit the different photos.
Graphic Design Production
My design is similar to the official Coca-Cola
advert since both our themes are centred
around summer. Both images are quite simple
since they both only include the Coca-Cola logo
and a slogan. But this makes them both look
effective since they’re minimalistic.
There aren’t any colours that stand out in the
background of the two images and the text is
also quite simple. The colours used in the
images are relevant to the theme and the
product being advertised.
My advert doesn’t have an image
of the product being advertised
whereas the official advert does.
Mine also doesn’t contain any
images that are relevant to my
theme, only the background
image. The other advert has two
slogans, one in the centre and one
next to an image of a Coca-Cola
bottle.
Graphic Design Production
I like the text I used for the
name of the product being
advertised since it’s the
same as the official Coca-
Cola logo. I also like the
colour I used for the text as
it matches with my theme
of ‘summer’ and it blends
in well with the background
image.
Another good thing about
the advert is that you are
able to identify straight
away on what is being
advertised.
The slogan is short and simple which is good because it is
more likely to attract attention. I think the theme I have
chosen is good because it fits well with my intended
audience which is for 16-19 year olds. It fits well with my
intended audience because it’s bright and colourful. It’s
also good because it looks quite simplistic and there's not
too much on the page that could distract them from what
is being advertised.
If I could create the advert
in a different way I would
change the background
image so it would look
more summery rather than
just a simple background
of a beach. I would also
change the colour of the
Coca-Cola logo to white, so
it blends in more with the
background, giving it a
more professional look to
it.
What’s good about the colours I used for my poster is
that they are bold which makes them stand out more
in quite a ‘soft’ background. If I was going to change
the colour of the text to white then I would have to
change the image of the two hands under the Coca-
Cola logo. I would change that image to red so then
you would be able to see the slogan clearly and it
would match with my theme.
If I could change the way I made my poster I would
include more images that would match well with my
theme of ‘summer’ or show the product I’m advertising
e.g. a coke bottle or something beach related.
Radio Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
An advantage of using a radio advert and producing one is that it can be a challenge with
picking music that won’t get copyrighted and fits well with the advert. It’s easy and fast to
make things but if you want to change anything it’s also quite simple to do.
A disadvantage may be that the software you are using could be complicated to use,
which could result in it taking longer to make. Any software you might be using may not
be available of every computer you use.
Radio Production
STRENGHTS –
The final audio turned out good and was fitted well with our choice of instrumental music, which
was the song ‘Symphony’. The audio was loud enough so that we were able to hear our voices
despite there being music played in the background as well.
WEAKNESSES –
The speech audio was quite simple, so it didn’t give any impact when we played it. Our idea was
also very basic, as others had thought of the same idea as us. Our audio also sort of messed up at
the beginning so it doesn’t sound as natural.
CHANGES –
If we could change anything in our radio advert I would change the script so that it would draw in
more people as they listen to it. I might have also changed the choice in music so that it would
match better with our theme of ‘summer’.
Radio Production
Music starts off loud,
gradually descends quieter.
Music is dimmed,
conversation gets louder.
One of us opens the coke
bottle and takes a sip.
One says; “The Taste That
Refreshes” whilst other drinks.
After taking a sip the person
gives a sigh of relaxation.
Everyone laughs as the music
increases in volume.
The name of the product
and slogan is said.
Coca-Cola’s new 2017 TV ad shows a
brother and sister both taking a fancy to
the guy cleaning out their pool.
As the boy and girl look on from different
windows of the house, while the sun beats
down, each of them suddenly realises the
great opportunity they have to offer the
man a nice cold bottle of Coke.
After racing to the fridge, the siblings then
fight to get outside first, only to eventually
find they’ve both been beaten to it by their
mother, who’s just given the sweaty pool
guy a refreshing bottle.
A similarity between the two adverts is that
they both consist of the same theme of
‘summer’. A difference between the two would
be that our advert has a slogan toward the end
of the advert whilst the other doesn’t have a
slogan through out the whole advert.
Video Game Experiments
Video Game Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
It allows you to express the different advantages and disadvantages of what you’ve created. And you are also
able to go into detail about what you could change and how you would do things differently.
You can only discuss and go into detail about what you want to change but you can’t show what differences
it could make to the advergame.
Video Game Production
These two images are similar because they have the same
atmospheric background, making them both look more
effective. The images both differ in terms of colour, since the
first is bright whilst the other is darker. The difference in colour
could relate to the genre(theme). The first image looks less
realistic and effective than the second image as the first is
rather simple.
Video Game Production
A good thing about the final
product is that you are able to
clearly see what is being
advertised. It’s also good since
you are able to tell what age
group the advergame is being
advertised for.
You can tell that the game is
aimed for a specific age group
rather than just anyone, for
instance this advergame is
aimed for kids and teenagers.
What’s good about this is that
it doesn’t include any
inappropriate imagery or text.
A weakness would be that the background is too
simple. If I could change the background image, I
would add more detail to the trees to make them
look more realistic.
I like the style of the character I
used in the advergame, but I
would change the character so
that it would fit better with the
background I used. Or I would
change the background so that
it would match with the
character instead. I would also
make sure that it’s clear what I
am advertising rather than just
including four Coca-Cola cans
for the pixel character to
collect.
Comparison
• Which product do you believe advertises the
product the best? Why?
• Which of your products is the most
professional? Why?
I believe that my game advertises the product best because it includes the product in the
game and is clear what is being advertised.
I think that the other is most professional because the background is more detailed
and looks more realistic, despite that both backgrounds are the same.

Graphic Design, Radio, and Video Game Production Techniques

  • 3. Graphic Design Production • Advantages of working in this medium • Disadvantages of working in this medium An advantage of using Photoshop to create adverts is that there are a lot of options you can choose from to improve the advert and make it look more eye-catching. It allows you to practice with the various tools in Photoshop so you get an idea on how to work and use them. It’s easy to use but isn’t essentially designed for people that haven’t used any kinds of software that edit and create photos. It takes time for a person to get used to using the different tools and techniques to create/ edit the different photos.
  • 4. Graphic Design Production My design is similar to the official Coca-Cola advert since both our themes are centred around summer. Both images are quite simple since they both only include the Coca-Cola logo and a slogan. But this makes them both look effective since they’re minimalistic. There aren’t any colours that stand out in the background of the two images and the text is also quite simple. The colours used in the images are relevant to the theme and the product being advertised. My advert doesn’t have an image of the product being advertised whereas the official advert does. Mine also doesn’t contain any images that are relevant to my theme, only the background image. The other advert has two slogans, one in the centre and one next to an image of a Coca-Cola bottle.
  • 5. Graphic Design Production I like the text I used for the name of the product being advertised since it’s the same as the official Coca- Cola logo. I also like the colour I used for the text as it matches with my theme of ‘summer’ and it blends in well with the background image. Another good thing about the advert is that you are able to identify straight away on what is being advertised. The slogan is short and simple which is good because it is more likely to attract attention. I think the theme I have chosen is good because it fits well with my intended audience which is for 16-19 year olds. It fits well with my intended audience because it’s bright and colourful. It’s also good because it looks quite simplistic and there's not too much on the page that could distract them from what is being advertised. If I could create the advert in a different way I would change the background image so it would look more summery rather than just a simple background of a beach. I would also change the colour of the Coca-Cola logo to white, so it blends in more with the background, giving it a more professional look to it. What’s good about the colours I used for my poster is that they are bold which makes them stand out more in quite a ‘soft’ background. If I was going to change the colour of the text to white then I would have to change the image of the two hands under the Coca- Cola logo. I would change that image to red so then you would be able to see the slogan clearly and it would match with my theme. If I could change the way I made my poster I would include more images that would match well with my theme of ‘summer’ or show the product I’m advertising e.g. a coke bottle or something beach related.
  • 6. Radio Production • Advantages of working in this medium • Disadvantages of working in this medium An advantage of using a radio advert and producing one is that it can be a challenge with picking music that won’t get copyrighted and fits well with the advert. It’s easy and fast to make things but if you want to change anything it’s also quite simple to do. A disadvantage may be that the software you are using could be complicated to use, which could result in it taking longer to make. Any software you might be using may not be available of every computer you use.
  • 7. Radio Production STRENGHTS – The final audio turned out good and was fitted well with our choice of instrumental music, which was the song ‘Symphony’. The audio was loud enough so that we were able to hear our voices despite there being music played in the background as well. WEAKNESSES – The speech audio was quite simple, so it didn’t give any impact when we played it. Our idea was also very basic, as others had thought of the same idea as us. Our audio also sort of messed up at the beginning so it doesn’t sound as natural. CHANGES – If we could change anything in our radio advert I would change the script so that it would draw in more people as they listen to it. I might have also changed the choice in music so that it would match better with our theme of ‘summer’.
  • 8. Radio Production Music starts off loud, gradually descends quieter. Music is dimmed, conversation gets louder. One of us opens the coke bottle and takes a sip. One says; “The Taste That Refreshes” whilst other drinks. After taking a sip the person gives a sigh of relaxation. Everyone laughs as the music increases in volume. The name of the product and slogan is said. Coca-Cola’s new 2017 TV ad shows a brother and sister both taking a fancy to the guy cleaning out their pool. As the boy and girl look on from different windows of the house, while the sun beats down, each of them suddenly realises the great opportunity they have to offer the man a nice cold bottle of Coke. After racing to the fridge, the siblings then fight to get outside first, only to eventually find they’ve both been beaten to it by their mother, who’s just given the sweaty pool guy a refreshing bottle. A similarity between the two adverts is that they both consist of the same theme of ‘summer’. A difference between the two would be that our advert has a slogan toward the end of the advert whilst the other doesn’t have a slogan through out the whole advert.
  • 10. Video Game Production • Advantages of working in this medium • Disadvantages of working in this medium It allows you to express the different advantages and disadvantages of what you’ve created. And you are also able to go into detail about what you could change and how you would do things differently. You can only discuss and go into detail about what you want to change but you can’t show what differences it could make to the advergame.
  • 11. Video Game Production These two images are similar because they have the same atmospheric background, making them both look more effective. The images both differ in terms of colour, since the first is bright whilst the other is darker. The difference in colour could relate to the genre(theme). The first image looks less realistic and effective than the second image as the first is rather simple.
  • 12. Video Game Production A good thing about the final product is that you are able to clearly see what is being advertised. It’s also good since you are able to tell what age group the advergame is being advertised for. You can tell that the game is aimed for a specific age group rather than just anyone, for instance this advergame is aimed for kids and teenagers. What’s good about this is that it doesn’t include any inappropriate imagery or text. A weakness would be that the background is too simple. If I could change the background image, I would add more detail to the trees to make them look more realistic. I like the style of the character I used in the advergame, but I would change the character so that it would fit better with the background I used. Or I would change the background so that it would match with the character instead. I would also make sure that it’s clear what I am advertising rather than just including four Coca-Cola cans for the pixel character to collect.
  • 13. Comparison • Which product do you believe advertises the product the best? Why? • Which of your products is the most professional? Why? I believe that my game advertises the product best because it includes the product in the game and is clear what is being advertised. I think that the other is most professional because the background is more detailed and looks more realistic, despite that both backgrounds are the same.
