1.
2. The image on the left is a screen grab taken from the opening sequence to the children’s TV drama ‘Tracy Beaker’. This image is the logo which introduces the name of the programme within the title sequence. This screen grab of the logo is also the way in which the target audience recognise the programme in which they’re watching. Therefore it is an important part to the title sequence as it helps create audiences expectations and by using cartoon like text and various bright colours within a simple design it helps attract the target audience into watching the programme From recognising this, we decided to use this as an influence into the making of our title sequence and incorporate a well thought out logo into it. This would help keep the target audience attracted to watching the programme again by creating something they will associate the programme with each time it comes on, this being our unique logo. We decided to use a font downloaded from www.dafont.com under the children’s category being our target audience called ‘Ice Age’. This is a well known children’s film and by using the font used to make that film’s logo it would create a sense of comfort for the target audience as they would recognise it. We had to make it unique in our own way though so that the logo would be associated with ‘Park Acre’ so we changed the colour scheme to using a different colour for each letter so that it would be bold and appealing as we thought these were important factors to consider when targeting at such a young audience.
3. The image on the left is a screen grab from the children’s TV drama ‘My Parent’s Are Aliens’. I have chosen to use this particular frame because it introduces the people who are involved in and the making of the TV drama. Most children’s TV dramas are not recognised because of the actors in them but the creators because the actors aren’t usually that well known but the creators more better known for work on a wider variety of programmes. This can help make the audience recognise anyone they know from other programmes and can help them build a good reputation in order to attract them to a programme if they were to associate them with being involved in other programmes the target audience may like. Through gaining the knowledge that the creators are more likely to be better recognised by viewers than the actors within the programme I chose to use myself and my partner for our video coursework to appear on the title sequence in conjunction with the logo to help build a reputation for ourselves as creators as the creators are more likely to be involved in other programmes than the actors. By involving our names in the title sequence we are also establishing ourselves into the children’s TV drama industry and if we were to create more children’s TV dramas I would not change the font or positioning of our names on a different title sequence as it would help make our target audience recognise us as creators and associate us with our other work and help attract them into watching our programme.
4. This idea influenced us in the making of our title sequence as we thought that the use of constant movement of location and character was effective in keeping the target audience interested as with such a young target audience it is easy for them to become bored. We decided to use different coloured backgrounds for the images to be set on as we only had one location where all the resources we needed were that was available to us. But, by using different vibrant colours we hoped that this would create the same sort of effect on the target audience and that we would determine the success of this in our audience feedback questionnaire. We created movement not through the shots used in our inspiration in ‘The Simpsons’ but through still images that would be edited together to create a sense of movement. We decided to use this as we could use the fast editing needed to run along with the soundtrack we had chosen which was very upbeat and had a fast tempo like the one from ‘The Simpsons’. Above is a screen grab from the massively successful children’s TV programme ‘The Simpsons’. The opening title sequence to this programme contains lots of tracking, panning and point of view shots to show movement so that the target audience is gripped to the screen. It helps keep the audience interested by using these different shots as it speeds up the title sequence to co-inside with the soundtrack which has a fast, jumpy and upbeat feel to it which means that there is always something happening in the title sequence and it never stops or slows down.
5. We established from our research prior to our coursework in the research and planning stages that the majority of shots used in our main inspiration ‘Tracy Beaker’, were mid shots. We decided to use this in our coursework as we thought it was an effective but simple idea. We didn’t want to use too many different shots as it may confuse our young target audience but at the same time not be so boring for them they don’t find it interesting. We achieved this by using mainly mid shops but by including the use of movement and colour to the frames it would still be interesting for the target audience. We also included some point of view shots like when the boy is playing darts, we used this because we wanted to put the audience in the boys shoes in the luxuries he has.
6. Once we had completed our photo shoot with our two characters we used Adobe Photoshop CS2 to upload and edit the images. We decided to use the magic wand tool to edit out any shadows from around the images. We wanted to do this so that we would have no dark aspects of each frame and each would be bright and bold to keep the target audiences full attention. We found this in other existing children’s TV dramas as it helped to create a simple 2D rather than more complicated to a younger viewer, 3D effect. We have been highly redundant with our video coursework and we aimed to be as we thought that anything too entropic may confuse the younger target audience or shift their attention away from the video. We followed this style found in other children’s TV dramas throughout our video production but wanted a slight edge to ours to differentiate it from others and make it unique.
