Risk Control Measure
Lose wires or any other type of cables that someone could trip on. I can check beforehand to make sure that there is nothing that could
either endanger myself or one of my actors.
During the editing process I will need to be working on a computer
which could damage my eyes over a certain period of time.
I can avoid this by making sure that I take frequent breaks and ensure
that the appropriate DSE is set up.
There could be issues with my posture which could cause back pain. Taking breaks in order to avoid this is the best idea.
Any props or equipment that I plan to use could fall and damage
either property or harm one of my actors/helpers.
I can avoid this by checking beforehand to make sure that all props
and equipment are secure.
Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Control Measure
The equipment that I may need could be already in use by another
student at the time when I need to start filming.
I can avoid this issue by making sure that I book equipment early in
advance to make sure that when it comes to filming that I will have
everything I need.
The software that I could use to edit all of my footage could either
crash and/or delete my work.
I can avoid this issue by making sure that all of my work is saved
beforehand and that it is saved to more than one device/platform.
There might end up being parts of the film that I’m unable to film
(e.g., since my main actor is a dog the filming process could be
unpredictable because he might begin to act up and/or he may not be
at the location at the time I need to film).
Plan beforehand when my main actor is going to available and/or
when my location will be available (e.g., since my dog is my only actor
it would be best to pick a few days where I know that my house won’t
be busy and that I’ll be able to film without disturbing anyone).

Financing - Private investment
Private Investment
Definition Private Investment means when money is invested by companies or other financial organizations instead of the
government.
Advantage(s) A private investment is not the same as a business loan, meaning that you wouldn’t have to pay back a sum of money.
Disadvantage(s) You will have to share your profits with the investors meaning you will earn less altogether.
Financing - Studio funding
Studio funding
Definition Films are usually funded at the beginning of the films development. The majority of motion picture films are financed
through tax investors, tax credits, grants as well as other sources.
Advantage(s) You wouldn’t have to spent a large amount of your film budget on equipment or a place to film if a film ends being
funded.
Disadvantage(s) You will have to share your profits with the investors that are funding your film meaning you will not earn as much as
you would expect.
Financing - Pre-sales and co-productions
Pre-sales and co-productions
Definition It is the process and/or activities that are normally done before a customer has gotten in touch with the company.
However some presales can also occur during the period where the product is delivered to the customer. A co-
production is the practice of public services that are distributed to citizens who are involved with the creation of public
policies and services.
Advantage(s) Will allow feedback from customer before the product is officially released. This would then allow the company to
potentially go back and make adjustments.
Disadvantage(s) I don’t think that there are any disadvantages for this particular financing option.
Financing - Product placement
Product placement
Definition Where manufacturers of goods gain attention for their product by paying for them to be featured in films and/or
television programmes.
Advantage(s) It helps support not only the film company but the company paying for their product to be featured as well. If a film is
released and is considered good by the general public then the products included within the film would gain more
exposure and sales would go up.
Disadvantage(s) Having product placement in a film could be quite distracting or could interfere with the flow of the film (e.g., if there
was an impactful scene occurring in a film you wouldn’t want to see a product being advertised as it would ruin the
atmosphere the film had created).
Financing - National/regional/local film funds
National/regional/local film funds
Definition This refers to funding from another country, a country that is the same as what product is being created in and finally
funding from somewhere (e.g., a town, city) local to what is being created.
Advantage(s) Funding is always help when it comes to a smaller company that may not be able to fund their own film, equipment
etc… if the funding is local it will allow to converse more regularly with investors rather than those have invested
nationally.
Disadvantage(s) Funding is not always available especially to a smaller company that isn’t as well known. There is also no garuntee that
you will be able to secure funding.
Financing - Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding
Definition It is when a project is funded by raising money from a large amount of people. (this is seen a lot online, such as
gofundme pages).
Advantage(s) It is a fast way to raise money and is the most simple solution rather than struggling to get a bank loan or going into
private investment (this would mean that a part of the money that you make would go to the investor).
Disadvantage(s) It could take a lot of time before the amount of money required is reached.
Financing
Best Source of Finance For Your Project
Why
I think that the two best options of funding for me are Product Placement and Crowd Funding. I think this because they are the two easiest
forms of funding for a smaller company or for a student like myself. Out of the two, I think that Product Placement is the most secure form of
funding since you are not guaranteed to get the amount of money you would want whereas if you were to accept Product Placement you
would be earning less money since a percentage of it would go to the company that is funding the Product Placement.

  • 9. Locations – Risk + Health and Safety Assessments – Location Location Risk Control Measure Lose wires or any other type of cables that someone could trip on. I can check beforehand to make sure that there is nothing that could either endanger myself or one of my actors. During the editing process I will need to be working on a computer which could damage my eyes over a certain period of time. I can avoid this by making sure that I take frequent breaks and ensure that the appropriate DSE is set up. There could be issues with my posture which could cause back pain. Taking breaks in order to avoid this is the best idea. Any props or equipment that I plan to use could fall and damage either property or harm one of my actors/helpers. I can avoid this by checking beforehand to make sure that all props and equipment are secure.
  • 10. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Control Measure The equipment that I may need could be already in use by another student at the time when I need to start filming. I can avoid this issue by making sure that I book equipment early in advance to make sure that when it comes to filming that I will have everything I need. The software that I could use to edit all of my footage could either crash and/or delete my work. I can avoid this issue by making sure that all of my work is saved beforehand and that it is saved to more than one device/platform. There might end up being parts of the film that I’m unable to film (e.g., since my main actor is a dog the filming process could be unpredictable because he might begin to act up and/or he may not be at the location at the time I need to film). Plan beforehand when my main actor is going to available and/or when my location will be available (e.g., since my dog is my only actor it would be best to pick a few days where I know that my house won’t be busy and that I’ll be able to film without disturbing anyone).

  • 13. Financing - Private investment Private Investment Definition Private Investment means when money is invested by companies or other financial organizations instead of the government. Advantage(s) A private investment is not the same as a business loan, meaning that you wouldn’t have to pay back a sum of money. Disadvantage(s) You will have to share your profits with the investors meaning you will earn less altogether.
  • 14. Financing - Studio funding Studio funding Definition Films are usually funded at the beginning of the films development. The majority of motion picture films are financed through tax investors, tax credits, grants as well as other sources. Advantage(s) You wouldn’t have to spent a large amount of your film budget on equipment or a place to film if a film ends being funded. Disadvantage(s) You will have to share your profits with the investors that are funding your film meaning you will not earn as much as you would expect.
  • 15. Financing - Pre-sales and co-productions Pre-sales and co-productions Definition It is the process and/or activities that are normally done before a customer has gotten in touch with the company. However some presales can also occur during the period where the product is delivered to the customer. A co- production is the practice of public services that are distributed to citizens who are involved with the creation of public policies and services. Advantage(s) Will allow feedback from customer before the product is officially released. This would then allow the company to potentially go back and make adjustments. Disadvantage(s) I don’t think that there are any disadvantages for this particular financing option.
  • 16. Financing - Product placement Product placement Definition Where manufacturers of goods gain attention for their product by paying for them to be featured in films and/or television programmes. Advantage(s) It helps support not only the film company but the company paying for their product to be featured as well. If a film is released and is considered good by the general public then the products included within the film would gain more exposure and sales would go up. Disadvantage(s) Having product placement in a film could be quite distracting or could interfere with the flow of the film (e.g., if there was an impactful scene occurring in a film you wouldn’t want to see a product being advertised as it would ruin the atmosphere the film had created).
  • 17. Financing - National/regional/local film funds National/regional/local film funds Definition This refers to funding from another country, a country that is the same as what product is being created in and finally funding from somewhere (e.g., a town, city) local to what is being created. Advantage(s) Funding is always help when it comes to a smaller company that may not be able to fund their own film, equipment etc… if the funding is local it will allow to converse more regularly with investors rather than those have invested nationally. Disadvantage(s) Funding is not always available especially to a smaller company that isn’t as well known. There is also no garuntee that you will be able to secure funding.
  • 18. Financing - Crowdfunding Crowdfunding Definition It is when a project is funded by raising money from a large amount of people. (this is seen a lot online, such as gofundme pages). Advantage(s) It is a fast way to raise money and is the most simple solution rather than struggling to get a bank loan or going into private investment (this would mean that a part of the money that you make would go to the investor). Disadvantage(s) It could take a lot of time before the amount of money required is reached.
  • 19. Financing Best Source of Finance For Your Project Why I think that the two best options of funding for me are Product Placement and Crowd Funding. I think this because they are the two easiest forms of funding for a smaller company or for a student like myself. Out of the two, I think that Product Placement is the most secure form of funding since you are not guaranteed to get the amount of money you would want whereas if you were to accept Product Placement you would be earning less money since a percentage of it would go to the company that is funding the Product Placement.
