3. Graphic Design Production
Advantages and disadvantages of working in this medium:
For our first section we got to use Photoshop to make two different kind of
posters. One was about York College and the other about Coca-Cola. At first
Photoshop was very different to use from school software since I wasn’t used
to using Photoshop as I’ve never used it before. Some advantages of
Photoshop are you can take the background off easier with different kind of
tools depending on the image. Another advantage is you have many layers so
if you need to change anything e.g. an image on the background, then you
can go onto that layer and alter it. A disadvantage of Photoshop is difficult at
first as I didn’t really know how to use it since I’ve used it before, so it took
some time. Another disadvantage is you have to be very patient to use
Photoshop because it can be very frustrating if what you’ve done didn’t
happen.
4. Graphic Design Production
A difference is my poster’s theme is Christmas and the
Coca-Cola poster has just a black background with a lady sat
at a bar drinking coke. Also, it looks like the lady is waiting
upon someone else as there is another coke on the bar
table.
A difference is the polar bear in the Coca-Cola
advertisement originally took 12 years to produce.
Whereas mine took a couple of days.
A similarity is the Coca-Cola font is the same
which I kept the same so it would look alike
and not different.
Another similarity is it’s
bringing people together even
if they are not family. As the
lady is waiting upon another
person to accompany her she is
having a glass of coke.
5. Graphic Design Production
A strength of the Coca-
Cola poster is I’ve kept
the same font for the
logo. I have used the 3D
tool in Photoshop to
make it look slightly
different.
I have used the same font as the Coca-Cola to make look the same. I got the font
from dafont and screen shot it. My slogan is about bringing the family together at
Christmas time.
My poster is about bringing the
family together so the poster is
showing the Mother Bear
bringing the children together
with a bottle of coke and the
other child wanting the bottle
of coke from his brother. You
can see by the Mother Bear’s
facial expression that she is
showing her children love and
affection.
A weakness of the poster is
the reindeer not having any
feet so they look cut off.
The polar bear image had a white
background on so I used the magic wand
tool to remove it all. Also, the reindeer
image had a white snowy background
which wasn’t all the same so I used the
polygonal lasso tool to remove most of it
and then used the rubber to rub out the
smaller areas.
Another strength of the
poster is there isn’t a lot going
on there so it makes the
audience concentrate on the
message of the poster.
6. Radio Production
Advantages and disadvantages of working in this medium:
A good thing about working in Adobe Audition is you are able to edit the
songs we were using for our radio. Unfortunately, I forgot to save my work so I
had to start all over and get all the sound effects again. After getting all my
sounds and songs for my advert is was easier to cut out the majority of the
song so then it would fit into the time limit. A bad thing about Adobe
Audition is it takes time to get used to.
7. Radio Production
My radio advert is an evolution of Coca - Cola commercials songs starting
from 1990-2016. I have included different kinds of sound effects like, bottle
opening, atmosphere of a bar, clinking of glasses, ice in a glass, fizzing and
cheering in the background. I have cropped the songs so they are in the time
limit of 20 – 25 seconds. I have got my idea from the Rio Gold’s Feeling advert
from this year as they used similar sound effects. My partner combined the
slogans from 1990 – 2016 and came up with ‘Can’t always beat the real thing,
so make it real!’ We kept the word ‘real’ as this word appears in all slogans
from Coca – Cola.
Coca – Cola Evolution Radio Advert
8. Radio Production
For my radio advert I did an evolution of
Coca - Cola commercial songs. I used the
razor tool to cut the songs to the time
limit we were given which was 20 - 25
seconds.
I had to take out some of the sound effects as I
couldn’t get the ones I wanted and that suited the
advert properly. Also, some of them did not sound
good.
I over lapped the songs that got edited so
then there were no gaps in between.
A strength of this radio advert is I was
able to edit it without cutting all of it.
A weakness of the radio advert is I was able to get
all the songs from the time period into the time
slot without it being over.
10. Video Game Production
Advantages of working in this medium:
As we have already used Photoshop for the posters I have got
used to the tools and what they do.
Disadvantages of working in this medium:
At the end of the video game, I was confused with the timeline
and it messed up my work which made me start it all again.
11. Video Game Production
The theme of them both are
Christmas which is a similarity.
They have used presents
whereas I have used Coca –
Cola cans.
This game has used a different
character and I have used Santa to
stay within the theme. However, they
have also kept within the theme by
the character's clothing is red with a
white face.
A difference is they have put a
score in the top right corner.
12. Video Game Production
For the block colours I have
used the pencil tool
whereas I have used the
brush tool to make the
snowman look less blocky.
A weakness of this is
the background is
very plain and there
is nothing else on
the background.
My advergame is Santa dropping Coca - Cola down
the chimney of each house.
One thing I would change of my advergame would
probably be the whole idea of the advergame. I
would change my idea to a unicorn riding through a
forest and catching Coca- Cola cans as points.
When I put my
advergame into
timeline, I accidently
messed it up by
moving the layers so
I had to start again
and I did it properly
this time without
putting other layers
into another layer.
13. Comparison
Which product do you believe advertises the product the best and is most
professional? Why?
My poster is the product that advertises the product and is the most professional as
it promotes what Coca – Cola is about which is family. This is shown on the poster by
the polar bears sharing Coca – Cola as they are sharing it. The radio production is
more about the evolution of the Coca – Cola commercials and the advergame is only
to present an advertisement game and has nothing to do with the theme of the
poster. All three productions have different themes. But the best theme of family is
shown through the poster. Also, it is professional as I have made sure there is no
white background on the animals and that they are both carved out properly.
