Graphic Design Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
The tools available in Photoshop allow your design or ideas to
become a reality. Much more editing strategies can be used to
make a near perfect final piece, if the work is put in as well.
Whereas PowerPoint (used to make are basic ideas) is very
limited In its capabilities compared to Photoshop.
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
As a novice of this medium the tools and there uses are quite
complicated to get a grip of; whilst something like PowerPoint is
easier to use and understand. Finding out what certain tools are
capable of can take hours to understand, wasting valuable time
in the process.
Graphic Design Production
Finally the obvious difference between the two posters is
mine is a photo (at least the man is), whilst Coca-Cola’s is
animated, this animated style of poster allows for further
creativity and is seen through out many other Coca-Cola
posters; plus this poster is from the 1930s meaning there
cameras wouldn’t have been brilliant plus they didn’t
have access to Photoshop like editors nowadays. My
poster is created using Photoshop and therefore creating a
more realistic, relatable image to that shown in the
animated Coca-Cola poster; Photoshop also allows for a
quicker production process compared to one which is
hand drawn or illustrated.
The aspect of thirst is included in both my own poster
and Coca-Cola’s original poster from the 30s.
Furthermore they both include a gentleman wearing a
suit desiring a Coke with no other people around,
although that’s where the similarities stop.
For example the man in my poster conveys an
emotion of dire thirst and misery, whereas the man in
Coca-Cola’s original poster conveys an emotion of
elation and joy from receiving his many bottles of
Coke; this idea carries on through to many of Coca-
Cola’s original advertisements as the drink is supposed
to bring you untimely joy.
Secondly the location is different in both posters,
mine in a barren desert environment lacking life,
whilst Coca-Cola’s poster is located in a gas station
symbolising an average well known Sociable American
environment.
Graphic Design ProductionIf I were to make this again I would possibly think of a
better slogan, due to the fact that any digestible liquid
substance is going to be ‘desirable’ in a desert where
your dying of dehydration.
Secondly I would include in the background a huge body
of water, which would make the slogan make sense as
the man in the picture chose the coke over the water to
quench his thirst.
Although I like the simplistic nature of the image, if I
were to do it again I would try to make it more complex
to improve the quality.
I used tools such as blur, to blend in the coke can and
palm trees into the surrounding background, as to not
show the fact that those images weren’t just placed
there.
I also used the lighten tool to present a more heat
ridden and dry environment, as to accentuate the fact
that this man is obviously dying of dehydration and heat
stroke.
I do like how I’ve made this one
lonesome coke can into its own
oasis, with the smallest palm
trees protruding from the
ground surrounding it; as if the
Coca-Cola inside it gives a new
lease of life.
Radio Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
Many of us in this course have never used this editing software before,
therefore during the creation process of this radio advert we got hours of
important experience. This experience will prove very useful in the coming
months and years where we will rely heavily on are editing skills, for many of
our upcoming future projects. Also this medium requires group work to excel,
therefore improving your social and group skills for future projects or even to
help with employment.
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
Some people struggle with editing software due to its complex appearance
when first using it, therefore they may prefer the likes of Photoshop and
other less complex software. Secondly this method requires group work as
previously mentioned, this may not be the preferred working environment for
some people whom may work better in isolation, therefore this environment
may limit there mental workings and reach of imagination for ideas.
Radio Production
Our radio advert is set in the stereotypical ‘wild’ west, during a standoff. Although this
standoff has a twist, in place of hand guns used to kill one another, Coca-Cola cans are
used to share between the two dualists. This implies rather than hate and fight, love
and do right furthermore the background music behind most of the production is that
from ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ this sets the scene even before any human
interaction takes place, creating serious tension.
Many other legitimate Coca-Cola adverts come about around Christmas time,
involving the standard Christmas lights, Snow and appearance of Santa Clause.
Whereas our advert is set in a hot, sandy environment which to begin with doesn’t
seem very joyful or happy in anyway as it starts with that tense music. However the
advert ends in a happy way similar to what Coca-Cola as a brand try to convey through
all their advertisements, with our advert having laughter and that famous, joyful Coca-
Cola jingle right at the end.
Radio Production
Strengths: Coca-Cola strives to connect people and to dish out happiness, therefore our idea of
a wild west standoff involving the sharing of coke instead of ending up in violence was a simple one but
a good one. Involving the whole group using audio recorders allowed everyone to contribute, rather
than one person doing everything by themselves. Finally the comedic nature of the advert should
improve its general appeal and I also liked the slogan at the end ‘Settling Your Standoffs With a Coca-
Cola’, emphasising the fact that this drink should be shared and enjoyed no matter a persons ideals or
physical and mental differences.
Weaknesses: The murmuring and chatting throughout the advert was possibly to loud,
overpowering the music and ‘standoff’ scene. Secondly the laughing after the two ‘dualists’ finish their
drinks is a bit unnatural and forced, just breaking out randomly in hysterics' after the two are done
seems strange to the listener including myself. Finally the gulping sound effect once the dualists have
opened their cans is strange and unnatural, probably due to the three sound bites being sped up and
one of them being completely reversed.
Changes: I would change the volume of both the background music and chattering, the music
volume I would increase to improve the tension and I would decrease the volume of the chattering, as I
believe it overpowers most of the scene and is a slight ear soar. Secondly I would find a more natural
laughing sound bite which would blend in with the theme of the advert (western), rather than
something pulled out of an American sitcom.
Finally I would layer the gulping audio to sound more natural and change the effects on them, for
example get rid of the reverse effect on one of them which any listener can identify as strange and try
and manipulate it in some other way, which sounds more pleasing to the ear. The layering of the gulping
effect would be changed to make it sound more like two people rather than one, similar to the ‘ahh’
sound effect where two are layered on top of one another.
Video Game Experiments
Video Game Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
This medium of production allows you and you alone to create a short but entertaining video,
different from both the poster and radio advertisement. The poster restricts you to one still
image whereas this method allows for actual moving pictures through stop motion, maybe not
the most sophisticated route for animation but it allows for more creative ideas which simply
cannot be done through a still image. Secondly the radio advert is primarily showcased through
audio, therefore listeners must visualise the scenario rather than physically watch it themselves,
possibly leading to confusion if said radio advert lacks in context. Whereas the video
game/advergame includes both audio and visual properties, satisfying for eyes and ears, whether
that be due to the entertaining video aspect or the funny sound effects and or catchy music
throughout; furthermore the viewer will have a much clearer image of what's going on (literally).
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
The advergame unlike the radio advert, requires an animation to go along with the sound this
may cause difficulty for some, as syncing up sound effects and or music to go along with a video
can be hard to perfect, forcing you to either change your plan or spend an overly long time
syncing up the sound the best you can. Secondly the poster (our first method of advertisement) is
a still image, which like I said in the previous paragraph may restrict your creativity, however
animation unlike the poster is far more challenging to create, taking up a lot more time due to it
being stop motion when you could possibly be spending your time making dozens of different
posters which convey a far wider variety of emotions and ideas; therefore showing a superior
initiative to someone spending hours trying to create a single animation.
Video Game Production
Coca-Cola: escape the machine Donkey Kong
My game takes huge inspiration from the classic 80s game Donkey Kong in the way that the production plays and carries out, however
mine can’t be controlled. Furthermore the theme of my game is Coca-Cola therefore I've made differences in the way that everything
looks. Donkey Kong’s obstacles are barrels and mine are coins (as it’s a vending machine), the protagonist of Donkey Kong is Mario
whilst mine is a Coke can or as I like to call him Coca-Cola man, the platforms in Donkey Kong are iron girders and mine are thick red and
white rectangles; to stick with the Coca-Cola theme. Moving on from the looks, both games have their similarities and differences in the
context of gameplay, for example Donkey Kong's antagonist is Donkey Kong himself and Mario must save the princess he has captured.
Whilst my games antagonist is the large human hand dispensing coins (obstacles) into the vending machine, however Coca-Cola man
must also reach the hand to finish the game therefore the antagonist is also the main goal to reach throughout the game (basically
Donkey Kong and the princess in one). My final point left to make is, Donkey Kong keeps track of a scoring system throughout the game
whilst mine doesn’t, this was because mine was only an advert on a single stage whereas Donkey Kong is playable over a multitude of
different levels; however if I were to do it again I would include a scoring system to make it seem more legit.
Video Game Production
I created this entire project using photoshop starting with a pixelated template to create my 8bit design, photoshop was also used for the
stop motion animation however the audio to go along with it, was made using adobe premier. I genuinely like a large portion this project,
the classic 8bit style to go along with the 8bit music works really well to advertise Coca-Cola, at least entertainment wise. However if I
were to make subtle changes to the project, to further improve it I would. A few areas where I would improve on would be, the platforms,
a functional score system and the coin dispense rate. Firstly the platforms were originally pixelated to go along with the 8bit theme,
however they reverted back to their thick, blocky original state when I converted the photoshop animation to an MP4; therefore if I were
to do it again I would try and keep them pixelated, to seem more fitted to there surroundings. Secondly a score system or life meter
would complement this style of video game/advergame perfectly, similar to the one In Donkey Kong on the previous slide, to further
improve on the quality. The life meter would work especially well when the coin hits Coca-Cola man, I tried to imply that he was hurt
when he flashes red but a more obvious, bold life meter or score board in one of the four corners would stand out a lot more to the
viewer. Finally the drop rate of the coin obstacles is too slow and easy to avoid, this was due to it being post video production after
everything else in the animation was done and I had to swiftly move on to audio production, so I tried to include them as best I could, but
if I were to do it again I would include more coins furthering the difficulty and I would include more slides to decrease the janky
movements.

• Which product do you believe advertises the product the
best? Why?
I enjoyed making the advergame the most however, the radio advert probably advertises Coca-
Cola the best. As the slogan at the end makes the most sense ‘setting your standoffs with Coca-
Cola’ meaning don’t hate one another and fight, love one another and do right, through sharing
and talking with one another no matter: ethnicity, race, religion or background. At least that's the
message we tried to put across and to those outside our group who have heard and or read it(off
the script), understand the basic meaning of the slogan. Whilst the posters slogan makes little to
no sense in the context of where the man is and what condition he’s in, what I mean is any liquid
is desirable when you’re dying of dehydration in a hot deasert.
• Which of your products is the most professional? Why?
The advergame is the most professional because, it shows off the most creative skill out of the
three and takes into account ideas taken from both the radio advert and the poster. The
advergame includes many hundreds of images for stop motion animation, similar to the poster as
they both involve visual editing skills, plus the advergame uses audio edited in adobe premier
similar to how the radio advert is made. Therefore the advergame is the most professional, as it
takes everything you’ve learnt from the past two projects and puts them into one final piece of
work. The poster was a simple starter, the radio advert was a more complex, group orientated
project and the advergame puts all that we’ve learnt so far to the test to create the best, most
professional piece out of the three projects.

2. production techniques evaluation pro forma(1) (1)

  • 3. Graphic Design Production • Advantages of working in this medium The tools available in Photoshop allow your design or ideas to become a reality. Much more editing strategies can be used to make a near perfect final piece, if the work is put in as well. Whereas PowerPoint (used to make are basic ideas) is very limited In its capabilities compared to Photoshop. • Disadvantages of working in this medium As a novice of this medium the tools and there uses are quite complicated to get a grip of; whilst something like PowerPoint is easier to use and understand. Finding out what certain tools are capable of can take hours to understand, wasting valuable time in the process.
  • 4. Graphic Design Production Finally the obvious difference between the two posters is mine is a photo (at least the man is), whilst Coca-Cola’s is animated, this animated style of poster allows for further creativity and is seen through out many other Coca-Cola posters; plus this poster is from the 1930s meaning there cameras wouldn’t have been brilliant plus they didn’t have access to Photoshop like editors nowadays. My poster is created using Photoshop and therefore creating a more realistic, relatable image to that shown in the animated Coca-Cola poster; Photoshop also allows for a quicker production process compared to one which is hand drawn or illustrated. The aspect of thirst is included in both my own poster and Coca-Cola’s original poster from the 30s. Furthermore they both include a gentleman wearing a suit desiring a Coke with no other people around, although that’s where the similarities stop. For example the man in my poster conveys an emotion of dire thirst and misery, whereas the man in Coca-Cola’s original poster conveys an emotion of elation and joy from receiving his many bottles of Coke; this idea carries on through to many of Coca- Cola’s original advertisements as the drink is supposed to bring you untimely joy. Secondly the location is different in both posters, mine in a barren desert environment lacking life, whilst Coca-Cola’s poster is located in a gas station symbolising an average well known Sociable American environment.
  • 5. Graphic Design ProductionIf I were to make this again I would possibly think of a better slogan, due to the fact that any digestible liquid substance is going to be ‘desirable’ in a desert where your dying of dehydration. Secondly I would include in the background a huge body of water, which would make the slogan make sense as the man in the picture chose the coke over the water to quench his thirst. Although I like the simplistic nature of the image, if I were to do it again I would try to make it more complex to improve the quality. I used tools such as blur, to blend in the coke can and palm trees into the surrounding background, as to not show the fact that those images weren’t just placed there. I also used the lighten tool to present a more heat ridden and dry environment, as to accentuate the fact that this man is obviously dying of dehydration and heat stroke. I do like how I’ve made this one lonesome coke can into its own oasis, with the smallest palm trees protruding from the ground surrounding it; as if the Coca-Cola inside it gives a new lease of life.
  • 6. Radio Production • Advantages of working in this medium Many of us in this course have never used this editing software before, therefore during the creation process of this radio advert we got hours of important experience. This experience will prove very useful in the coming months and years where we will rely heavily on are editing skills, for many of our upcoming future projects. Also this medium requires group work to excel, therefore improving your social and group skills for future projects or even to help with employment. • Disadvantages of working in this medium Some people struggle with editing software due to its complex appearance when first using it, therefore they may prefer the likes of Photoshop and other less complex software. Secondly this method requires group work as previously mentioned, this may not be the preferred working environment for some people whom may work better in isolation, therefore this environment may limit there mental workings and reach of imagination for ideas.
  • 7. Radio Production Our radio advert is set in the stereotypical ‘wild’ west, during a standoff. Although this standoff has a twist, in place of hand guns used to kill one another, Coca-Cola cans are used to share between the two dualists. This implies rather than hate and fight, love and do right furthermore the background music behind most of the production is that from ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ this sets the scene even before any human interaction takes place, creating serious tension. Many other legitimate Coca-Cola adverts come about around Christmas time, involving the standard Christmas lights, Snow and appearance of Santa Clause. Whereas our advert is set in a hot, sandy environment which to begin with doesn’t seem very joyful or happy in anyway as it starts with that tense music. However the advert ends in a happy way similar to what Coca-Cola as a brand try to convey through all their advertisements, with our advert having laughter and that famous, joyful Coca- Cola jingle right at the end.
  • 8. Radio Production Strengths: Coca-Cola strives to connect people and to dish out happiness, therefore our idea of a wild west standoff involving the sharing of coke instead of ending up in violence was a simple one but a good one. Involving the whole group using audio recorders allowed everyone to contribute, rather than one person doing everything by themselves. Finally the comedic nature of the advert should improve its general appeal and I also liked the slogan at the end ‘Settling Your Standoffs With a Coca- Cola’, emphasising the fact that this drink should be shared and enjoyed no matter a persons ideals or physical and mental differences. Weaknesses: The murmuring and chatting throughout the advert was possibly to loud, overpowering the music and ‘standoff’ scene. Secondly the laughing after the two ‘dualists’ finish their drinks is a bit unnatural and forced, just breaking out randomly in hysterics' after the two are done seems strange to the listener including myself. Finally the gulping sound effect once the dualists have opened their cans is strange and unnatural, probably due to the three sound bites being sped up and one of them being completely reversed. Changes: I would change the volume of both the background music and chattering, the music volume I would increase to improve the tension and I would decrease the volume of the chattering, as I believe it overpowers most of the scene and is a slight ear soar. Secondly I would find a more natural laughing sound bite which would blend in with the theme of the advert (western), rather than something pulled out of an American sitcom. Finally I would layer the gulping audio to sound more natural and change the effects on them, for example get rid of the reverse effect on one of them which any listener can identify as strange and try and manipulate it in some other way, which sounds more pleasing to the ear. The layering of the gulping effect would be changed to make it sound more like two people rather than one, similar to the ‘ahh’ sound effect where two are layered on top of one another.
  • 10. Video Game Production • Advantages of working in this medium This medium of production allows you and you alone to create a short but entertaining video, different from both the poster and radio advertisement. The poster restricts you to one still image whereas this method allows for actual moving pictures through stop motion, maybe not the most sophisticated route for animation but it allows for more creative ideas which simply cannot be done through a still image. Secondly the radio advert is primarily showcased through audio, therefore listeners must visualise the scenario rather than physically watch it themselves, possibly leading to confusion if said radio advert lacks in context. Whereas the video game/advergame includes both audio and visual properties, satisfying for eyes and ears, whether that be due to the entertaining video aspect or the funny sound effects and or catchy music throughout; furthermore the viewer will have a much clearer image of what's going on (literally). • Disadvantages of working in this medium The advergame unlike the radio advert, requires an animation to go along with the sound this may cause difficulty for some, as syncing up sound effects and or music to go along with a video can be hard to perfect, forcing you to either change your plan or spend an overly long time syncing up the sound the best you can. Secondly the poster (our first method of advertisement) is a still image, which like I said in the previous paragraph may restrict your creativity, however animation unlike the poster is far more challenging to create, taking up a lot more time due to it being stop motion when you could possibly be spending your time making dozens of different posters which convey a far wider variety of emotions and ideas; therefore showing a superior initiative to someone spending hours trying to create a single animation.
  • 11. Video Game Production Coca-Cola: escape the machine Donkey Kong My game takes huge inspiration from the classic 80s game Donkey Kong in the way that the production plays and carries out, however mine can’t be controlled. Furthermore the theme of my game is Coca-Cola therefore I've made differences in the way that everything looks. Donkey Kong’s obstacles are barrels and mine are coins (as it’s a vending machine), the protagonist of Donkey Kong is Mario whilst mine is a Coke can or as I like to call him Coca-Cola man, the platforms in Donkey Kong are iron girders and mine are thick red and white rectangles; to stick with the Coca-Cola theme. Moving on from the looks, both games have their similarities and differences in the context of gameplay, for example Donkey Kong's antagonist is Donkey Kong himself and Mario must save the princess he has captured. Whilst my games antagonist is the large human hand dispensing coins (obstacles) into the vending machine, however Coca-Cola man must also reach the hand to finish the game therefore the antagonist is also the main goal to reach throughout the game (basically Donkey Kong and the princess in one). My final point left to make is, Donkey Kong keeps track of a scoring system throughout the game whilst mine doesn’t, this was because mine was only an advert on a single stage whereas Donkey Kong is playable over a multitude of different levels; however if I were to do it again I would include a scoring system to make it seem more legit.
  • 12. Video Game Production I created this entire project using photoshop starting with a pixelated template to create my 8bit design, photoshop was also used for the stop motion animation however the audio to go along with it, was made using adobe premier. I genuinely like a large portion this project, the classic 8bit style to go along with the 8bit music works really well to advertise Coca-Cola, at least entertainment wise. However if I were to make subtle changes to the project, to further improve it I would. A few areas where I would improve on would be, the platforms, a functional score system and the coin dispense rate. Firstly the platforms were originally pixelated to go along with the 8bit theme, however they reverted back to their thick, blocky original state when I converted the photoshop animation to an MP4; therefore if I were to do it again I would try and keep them pixelated, to seem more fitted to there surroundings. Secondly a score system or life meter would complement this style of video game/advergame perfectly, similar to the one In Donkey Kong on the previous slide, to further improve on the quality. The life meter would work especially well when the coin hits Coca-Cola man, I tried to imply that he was hurt when he flashes red but a more obvious, bold life meter or score board in one of the four corners would stand out a lot more to the viewer. Finally the drop rate of the coin obstacles is too slow and easy to avoid, this was due to it being post video production after everything else in the animation was done and I had to swiftly move on to audio production, so I tried to include them as best I could, but if I were to do it again I would include more coins furthering the difficulty and I would include more slides to decrease the janky movements. • 13. Comparison • Which product do you believe advertises the product the best? Why? I enjoyed making the advergame the most however, the radio advert probably advertises Coca- Cola the best. As the slogan at the end makes the most sense ‘setting your standoffs with Coca- Cola’ meaning don’t hate one another and fight, love one another and do right, through sharing and talking with one another no matter: ethnicity, race, religion or background. At least that's the message we tried to put across and to those outside our group who have heard and or read it(off the script), understand the basic meaning of the slogan. Whilst the posters slogan makes little to no sense in the context of where the man is and what condition he’s in, what I mean is any liquid is desirable when you’re dying of dehydration in a hot deasert. • Which of your products is the most professional? Why? The advergame is the most professional because, it shows off the most creative skill out of the three and takes into account ideas taken from both the radio advert and the poster. The advergame includes many hundreds of images for stop motion animation, similar to the poster as they both involve visual editing skills, plus the advergame uses audio edited in adobe premier similar to how the radio advert is made. Therefore the advergame is the most professional, as it takes everything you’ve learnt from the past two projects and puts them into one final piece of work. The poster was a simple starter, the radio advert was a more complex, group orientated project and the advergame puts all that we’ve learnt so far to the test to create the best, most professional piece out of the three projects.
