The document summarizes a student trip to Dubai organized by EdTerra Edventures. It includes an introduction from the director of BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School praising the educational goals of the trip. It then provides messages from EdTerra about designing culturally sensitive projects and producing a media product to showcase student learning. The bulk of the document consists of short articles written by students about their experiences visiting various sites in Dubai like Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, souks and experiencing Arab culture through a desert safari.

From the Director’s Desk
At BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, we believe
that there is no substitute for ‘education through action’
and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements through
travel, complements and completes the educational
experience.
This philosophy matches our endeavour to create
responsible global citizens and dynamic leaders by
bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom
as well as encouraging students to go out into the world.
These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of
global citizenship based on empathy, understanding, and
international collaboration.

Dubai under a program titled‘Dubai: The Desert Paradise’.
Our students visited some of the most beautiful locations
in the United Arab Emirates. To augment the broader
program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which
ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This
Student Travel Review is an outcome of this collaborative
and exploratory module that our students of BCM Arya
Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, actively participated in.
It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and
5. photographs. It even showcases their learning from their
active interaction with one of the world’s most enigmatic
nations.
I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra
Edventures, a company that is well aware of co-curricular
and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs
of students. We acknowledge the contribution of
their staff, especially their on-journey educators. Their
professionalism made for an effortless, safe, and enriching
travel experience for our students and teachers.
Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students,
who participated in the program so enthusiastically.
Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the
enduring benefits of which they will reap all throughout
their academic lives and careers. Each parent may feel
proud of this highly demonstrable publication that will
keep reminding their wards of their achievements and
capabilities, lifelong.

6. Message from EdTerra
An educational journey to foreign lands always induces
learning and excitement among young and inquisitive
students. When the destination is as diverse as Middle
East, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which
Indian students would absorb and construct learning
out of the many differences and similarities that mark the
cultures and people of India and the UAE.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling
students to construct knowledge through a meaningful
encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun
and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious
minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which comprises both
Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully
designs culturally neutral projects that enable students
to meaningfully observe, record, and articulate their
impressions. These tools are deployed through a process
that encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions
besides recording observations through digital means, all
of which is finally synthesised into a media product that
showcases the ideas and learning of the students.
This Student Travel Review, ‘Dubai: The Desert Paradise’
is one such media product that captures the journey
of learning of the students of BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec.
School, Ludhiana. This book serves as a window into

and parents who could not be a part of the program. It
showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the
students, the credit for which is rightfully due to their
parents and school.

Sec. School, Ludhiana, for their efforts and support which
made this journey possible. We are extremely grateful
to Principal, Mrs. Anuja Kaushal, for guiding us. EdTerra
would also like to thank the accompanying teachers for
being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their energy made
our work easy, and more importantly, made for a more
memorable journey for the students. We encourage you
to read and relive the learning and adventures of these
students through the words and photographs that follow.

12. special place in our hearts. We loved dancing to
music and spending time with our friends, who
actually became family for these few days. For
all the other people, it might be a trip but for us,
it actually was a lifetime experience. We went for
a city tour, where we saw some significant places
in Dubai like Burj al Arab and Jumeirah Beach. We
learnt a lot and parallelly we enjoyed it a lot. To be
honest, these were the best five days for all of us
and when the last day came, we all were really sad
to say goodbye to this beautiful country.
If we talk about the heaven of the desert, Dubai is
the first name that comes to our minds. It is the
safest city in the world and the most beautiful
city with scenic beauty. The most amazing part
of the trip was the view from the 125th floor of
Burj Khalifa. The view looked like heaven that we
could see with our eyes. The Burj Khalifa has one
hundred and sixty three floors and stands at a
height of 2717 feet (828 metres). It was designed
by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, a Chicago-based
architectural firm. William F. Baker worked as a
structural engineer, and Adrian Smith served as the
architect. The second best part of the trip was the
ATV (All Terrain Motorcycle) bikes that we drove
at the desert safari camp. Even the desert safari
by car was amazing. The desert safari includes
an exciting dune drive in a land cruiser and offers
an amazing sunset view. Another highlight is the
campsite, which has activities like fire show, henna
painting, belly dancing and trying out traditional
Arab costumes.
After landing in Dubai, we went to Zabeel Palace.
We also went on a Dhow Cruise down the Dubai
Creek. We made a lot of memories on the trip and
the experience that we all had will always have a

the shores of Dubai. Dubai legitimately has broken
all the world records. The Burj Khalifa holds many
records like being the tallest building in the world,
the tallest free-standing structure in the world
and having the highest number of stories in the
world, the highest occupied floor in the world, the
highest outdoor observation deck in the world,
the elevator with the longest travel distance in the
world and the tallest service elevator in the world.
This city is outpacing all others. It is a city with
fabulous wealth, strange laws, an unbelievably low
crime rate and constant growth. Dubai became
so wealthy not only from the oil industry but from
an incredibly huge airport and increased tourism.
The change in Dubai in the last twenty years is
unimaginable. Another structure in Dubai is the
Emirates Towers, that was built in the late 1990s
and early 2000s and which house a hotel and
government offices.
Dubai is an overwhelming city. It is a miracle
metropolis in the middle of the desert with
overlapping roads, the tallest building in the world
and scorching temperatures. Dubai has a hot
climate all year round, similar to that experienced
along the Persian Gulf shoreline. Summertime
sees considerable humidity, while the rest of the
year sees moderate levels. Dubai is known for the
eight hundred and twenty eight metres Burj Khalifa,
the world’s tallest building. An abstracted version
of the Hymenocallis flower’s three lobed imprint
can be seen in the architecture of Burj Khalifa. The
tower is made up of three parts that are positioned
around a core. The modular, Y-shaped building’s
setbacks along each of its three wings give it an
intrinsically stable layout, and its good-sized floor
plans are ideal for housing. As the tower spirals
upward, its cross-section is gradually reduced by
twenty six helical levels.
Other than this, it has the longest indoor ski world
and the only seven-star hotel, Bur-Al-Arab. Burj Al
Arab has one hundred and ninety nine exclusive
suites, each allocated a dedicated twenty four
hour butler service. It offers experiences such as
indulgent spa experiences, yacht charters, a turtle
sanctuary and more. The hotel is built on its own

We learnt about one of the most famous fruits of
Arab, dates. Dates are flowering plant species in
the palm family. It is cultivated for its sweet edible
fruits. The fruit has traditionally been the main
source of food and riches in the irrigable deserts
of North Africa and the Middle East.
There we learnt a lot many things about Arab
culture and we enjoyed it a lot. We paid respect
to their culture and they respected us too. Arab
culture and people’s love for it is commendable.
Thank you, EdTerra Edventures family, for making
our journey affordable and memorable.
Our first travel destination was Za’abeel Palace.
We went on a Dhow cruise on the same day.
We went on a city tour, during which we visited
some amazing venues in Dubai like Burj al Arab
and Jumeirah Beach. We did a lot of shopping at
Meena Bazaar. We also went to Burj Khalifa, the
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Ferrari World. At
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, we learnt about
their famous cultural clothes. We got to know about
flowing robes, blue jeans, T-shirts, business suits
and special ‘Dishdasha’ and ‘Kandoura’ for men
and ‘Abaya’ for women. One of the largest mosques
in the world, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is
an architectural masterpiece that purposefully
combines many Islamic architectural schools. It
has eighty-two domes, more than one thousand
columns, chandeliers gilded in twenty-four-carat
gold, and the biggest hand-knotted carpet in the
entire world. One of the biggest chandeliers in the
entire world dominates the main prayer hall.

can get South Asian fashion and handicrafts at
best prices from here. It is primarily along one lane
in the Bur Dubai district. According to a legend, the
market got its name from the signboard of one of
its earliest shops, which was situated at the lane’s
entrance in 1973. It is also frequently referred to as
‘Little India of Bur Dubai’. Another shopping place,
Gold Souk is known for its gold jewellery and other
collections. The Gold Souk gives shoppers a great
chance to buy gold at a very reasonable price.
All the merchandise of the Gold Souk is closely
monitored by the Dubai government in order to
ensure the authenticity and quality of products.
As the topic suggests, this chapter is about our
visit to the Dubai Mall. The Dubai Mall is really
enormous. One can explore more than one hundred
and fifty luxury shopping and dining experiences at
Fashion Avenue in the Dubai Mall. It is more than
what we expected it to be. A vibrant Arabesque
marketplace situated alongside the Dubai Mall in
the heart of downtown Dubai is Souk al Bahar. It
features over a hundred shops and twenty-two
restaurants, cafés and lounges. It offers a perfect
point to see amazing views of Burj Khalifa and the
Dubai Fountain. After all, what really matters is that
it’s really beautiful and we had a lot of fun. We saw
shops that we had never seen in life or even heard
about. The stuff was really expensive there. We
also played a game called Mirror Maze. The game
was really mind-boggling and almost took us an
hour to finish. We shopped a lot and spent a lot
of money. The end of Dubai Mall was really worth
all the foot pain because of the fascinating water
show with all the pretty lights and peaceful music.
The local markets are the real gem of Dubai
and make it a true shopping paradise. The most
popular market is Meena Bazaar. It is popular for

the desert, sand-boarding down the dunes, belly
dancing, and Tanoura dancing. We explored Arab
culture, saw their dance forms and also saw the
fire show.
On day three, we went to the Dubai Mall, which is
huge and we almost got lost there but managed
to find our way through it. Dubai Mall is located
in the centre of downtown Dubai. Over a hundred
million people visit the Dubai Mall each year. It
is the world’s most popular retail and lifestyle
destination. More than twelve hundred retail
establishments, including two major department
stores, Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s,
over two hundred international eating options and
a variety of entertainment and leisure activities are
available for families to enjoy at The Dubai Mall.
We started our journey from our school in Ludhiana,
Punjab. We all assembled in our school. We went
to Delhi airport by bus and then we finally boarded
our flight to Dubai. After we landed, we were very
tired but Dubai’s view was totally worth the hustle.
After landing, we went to Zabeel Palace, checked
into our hotel and went on the cruise. The scenic
beauty of Dhow Cruise Dubai Marina was just next
level.
On day two, we went for a city tour in the morning
where we saw residences of royal families
and even the Dubai Frame. The most recent
architectural marvel in the UAE, Dubai Frame, is a
famous building that ‘frames’ breathtaking views
of both, the old and the new Dubai and acts as a
symbolic link between the Emirate’s illustrious
past and stunning present. Dubai Frame honours
Dubai’s history, from its early beginnings to its
aspirations for future expansion, by providing
breathtaking panoramic views of the whole city.
During the city tour, we learnt about Dubai’s history,
culture and traditions. After the tour, we went on
a desert safari, which was the most exciting part
of the journey. The desert safari in Dubai usually
includes a number of fun activities like riding the

A nature lover and a travel freak, I, Dr. Kiran Saini
enjoyed every moment of my trip to Dubai and Abu

The trip to Dubai was awesome and was one of my
best trips with students. The journey right from the

part was the enthusiastic call out, ‘Yo-Yo’ followed
by group selfies. Reaching Dubai and watching
skyscrapers was a treat to the eyes. We had limitless
fun at Desert Safari and riding on the bike was again
a thrilling experience. Apart from the fascinating
places, the best part was seeing children learn the
values of managing finances, sharing and caring
about each other during the trip. The travel itinerary
was followed religiously. It was a unique opportunity

I liked Burj Khalifa the most. During my journey I learnt
that although we all are from different culture and
ages but when we are together on a toir, we develop
a special bond with each other. There is no age gap
and hierarchy when we are traveling together. I liked
the travel arrangements made by EdTerra Edventures.
We loved the food they served us during our entire trip
and the way they made each one of us comfortable
by fulfilling all our demands. I wish to travel each year
with them to different places.
