5. At Bhai Paramanand Vidya Mandir School, New Delhi, we believe that there is no substitute
for ‘Education Through Action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes
the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible
and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to
the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods
are critical to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding
and International collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to USA under a program titled
EdTerra’s East Coast Space Adventure. We chose this program for its focus on exposing
students to space exploration and technology at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. They also
visited historic, natural and modern marvels of Washington, DC, Niagara Falls and New
York City. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which
ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Chronicle is an outcome
of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students partook in along with the
students of The Indian School, New Delhi, and DPS, Sushant Lok, Gurugram. It captures the
entire journey in the students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning
from the intense, ten day journey to one of the world’s most successful democratic nations.
I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a company that is well
aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We
acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educator, the Journey
Mentor and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism has resulted in an effortless,
safe and enriching travel experience for each one of us and for the group. Each parent may
feel proud of this publication that will keep reminding their daughters and sons of their
achievement and capabilities, all life long. Happy reading!

A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and
inquisitive mind. When the destination is as rich as the East Coast of USA, one can only
imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of
the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these two great
nations.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement
or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The
PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe,
record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that
encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital
media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and
learning of the students. This Student Travel Chronicle, ‘East Coast Space Adventure’, is one
such media product that captures the ten day journey of learning of the gifted students of
Bhai Paramanand Vidya Mandir School, New Delhi, along with the students of The Indian
School, New Delhi, and DPS, Sushant Lok, Gurugram, to Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando
along with Niagara Falls, Washington, DC, and New York City. This beautiful book serves as a
window into the U.S. and above all the amazing world of NASA for those students, peers and
parents who could not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative
capacities of the students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Bhai Paramanand Vidya Mandir School, New
Delhi, for their efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a
special mention of the Academic Director, Mrs. Pratibha Sharma, for guiding us throughout
the process of finalizing the journey. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying
teachers, Ms. Deepa Lakshamy and Ms. Ruchi Sharma, for their sense of adventure and
dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their energy made our jobs easy, and more
importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We encourage you to
read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the words and
photographs that follow.

12. OUR JOURNEY
Travelling is not something you need to practice to be good at. It
is something that should come naturally to you, like breathing. It
all started with a bus tour at Kennedy Space Center, NASA, where
we got a chance to explore the world of space technology which
included a ride along the famous Banana River. We never thought
NASA would be this interesting. We ate lunch with an astronaut
and it was a pleasure to hear about his amazing experience in
space. We even got a chance to experience a mock shuttle launch
in the Atlantis Museum.
Now, let’s enter into the world of adventure with Disney World,
where we started with the ferry ride and were divided into groups.
We were given a fast pass by which we could go on any three rides
of our choice. We choose Buzz Lightyear, Pirates Of the Caribbean
and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We went on many more rides
including Mickey’s Philhar Magic. The main highlight there was
the Disney Castle. It was really beautiful and huge.
The next day meant a visit to Universal Studios. In the Island
of Adventure, the first ride we went on was ‘The Incredible Hulk
Coaster’. It was really big and terrifying but still easily, the most
amazing ride we had ever been on. We also went on movie-
based rides such as ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ and ‘Harry Potter’s
Forbidden Journey’, and we also did some shopping at the Marvel
store.
Then came the day dedicated to water. We went to Niagara on a
flight from Orlando to Buffalo. On reaching Niagara Falls, we went
through the security check post and got blue raincoats to protect
us from the getting drenched by the mist from the Falls. The
Maid of the Mist ferry took us close to the Falls, we clicked some
awesome photographs and enjoyed the spectacular experience.
A nine hour long drive brought us to Washington DC. We saw the
Capitol Building, the White House, the Smithsonian Air and Space
Museum and the Pentagon. The best part of the journey was that
we got to learn something from each of the places we visited. We
enjoyed it overall and then we were ready to leave for New York.
New York is the city that never sleeps and the city lights and skyline
of New York were very attractive. The best part of New York was
Madame Tussauds and Times Square. We also got to eat Indian
food after a long time. We enjoyed the trip and really had fun. We
look forward to the next trip organized by EdTerra Edventures.

20. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
Our visit to Kennedy Space Center was very memorable and
enjoyable. We especially enjoyed the bus tour where we got to
see and know about so many things related to space. We saw
the beautiful and unique Rocket Garden and learned all about the
history of NASA rockets.
After the bus tour, we saw a video about a journey to the moon
and there we saw the many attempts of Apollo 11’s mission to the
moon, and the first person to step foot on the moon was American
astronaut Neil Armstrong. Then we saw the Saturn V, the heaviest,
largest and most expensive rocket every built. It was gigantic and
we clicked a lot of photos of it. It’s so big and fabulous and when
we touched it, it felt like touching a giant marble. We were really
amazed by it. After all this, we went to eat lunch. We felt really
blessed because we were really hungry. We ate French Fries and
Cheese pizzas.
We were very excited about the next day at Kennedy Space
Center. When we reached there, we saw a 3D IMAX movie about
the International Space Station, created with real space footage.
There is no gravity in space. We also got to know about global
warming and its damaging effects. After the IMAX movie, we went
to have lunch with an astronaut whose name was John Blaha. He
shared all his experiences with us and it was very interesting. Then
we clicked photos with him.
After that, we went to the Atlantis Museum. It had a big fuel tank
and 2 solid rocket boosters near the entrance. When we entered,
we went forward and stood in line for a short movie on a space
shuttle. It was very interesting. After that we saw the Atlantis
Space Shuttle, it was awe-inspiring. We clicked many photos of
it and the area around it. The last thing we tried was the Shuttle
Launch Experience. We went to stand in the line and after some
time, at last, we entered the space shuttle and sat in our seats
with our seat belts fastened. When it started, it was all fine, it was
moving slowly but as the shuttle simulator went up in the air it
started shaking heavily and it was a thrilling feeling. It was safe
because it was some kind of virtual thing. The rocket display was in
front of us on a T.V and it was only scary when the shuttle we were
sitting in, flipped upside down. After this, we went to the NASA
gift shop and purchased many things. The overall experience at
Kennedy Space Center was fantastic.

28. AMUSEMENT PARKS
Our dream came true when we stepped into the Islands of
Adventure at Universal Studios and Disney’s Magic Kingdom,
both in Orlando. Both these places were simply magical and just
stepping inside seemed to energise us and make us happier.
Although Disney World is divided into different islands but they
cametogethertogiveusaperfectexperience.Weenjoyedourselves
and we were inspired right through this beautiful amusement park
tour. We clicked photographs with our favorite characters and
greeted them with a hug. We enjoyed the Disney parade, which
was simply outstanding. Long queues to get on to the superb rides
tested our patience but we also enjoyed it in the company of our
teachers. By the end of the trip, we had strengthened our bond with
our teachers and seemed to understand each other better too.
At the theme parks, you can get souvenirs of each and every ride,
so they will always stay with you, even when you head back home.
You can keep it as a memory of the beautiful world of Marvel,
Mickey Mouse, Disney Princesses, King Kong or Harry Potter!
The parade, the rides and the Disney characters were fabulous.
We were thrilled to bits. Absolutely everything, from the roller
coasters, the water rides, the food and even the long queues we
had to stand, in turned out to be fun.
We drank Butter Beer and tried our magic in Harry Potter’s world.
We loved Universal Studio’s Islands of Adventure. We went on many
waterridesandgotcompletelywetbutitwasalsogreatfun.Thetrip
was a great experience with a bunch of great people and it turned
out amazing. We are thankful to our school and EdTerra Edventures

experience of a foreign land. It was way beyond our imagination.
At last we would like to say that our life is no less than a roller
coaster, with all its ups and downs. It might get scary at times
but the best part is when we want to try doing it again in order
to overcome our fears. Leave your fears behind. Enjoy the roller
coaster of life. Laugh and be happy.

36. WASHINGTON, DC
After an eight hour journey from Niagara, on the ninth day of our
trip, we visited Washington, DC, the capital of the United States
of America. It was an amazing experience to see the monuments
and gain an understanding of what everything represents. We
experienced a chilly day on the first day at Washington, DC. Our
guide took us to the Capitol Building situated on Capitol Hill, which
is the largest historic residential neighborhood in DC. It includes
the library of Congress. After Capitol Building, the next place we
visited was the White House, which everyone must be aware is the
residence of the American President. We learned that the site for
the White House was selected by the first President of America,
George Washington, in 1790.
Our next destination was Lincoln Memorial, which was that one
part of Washington, DC that attracted us towards inspiration and
hope. It was built to remember the 16th president of America,
Abraham Lincoln. The next thing that attracted us the most was
the 165 feet tall Washington Monument. There, we learned about
upper shaft and iron framework. The guide described in detail the
decoration of the monument that is done every year. We also got
to know that it has a flight of 896 steps surrounding an elevation
which takes visitors to the observation level from where they can
gaze over the entire city.
The next place we found interesting was the Smithsonian Air and
Space Museum, which was established on 10th August, 1846. We
explored many interesting things like the first plane made by the
Wright Brothers, which is considered to have changed the way we
travel.
To sum up, Washington, DC is one of the most interesting, intriguing
and information-packed part of our trip to the United States of
America. We would surely like to suggest a visit to Washington, DC
whenever anyone visits USA.

44. NEW YORK CITY
After a long bus drive from Washington, DC, we finally reached New
York City, popularly known as the city that never sleeps. Our first
stop was the Freedom Tower. We saw a 360 degree view of New
York City from the 102nd floor and the view was overwhelming.
Then, we went to the 9/11 Memorial and paid our respects to
the people whose lives were sacrificed during the disaster. A
city tour took us to all the sights that make New York one of the
most visited cities in the world. We visited the Brooklyn Bridge
which is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the country. We
saw the Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue which is legendary for
the shopping options and luxury brand names, the Empire State
Building and Broadway, the street that is synonymous with world
class musical productions.
Our next stop was Madame Tussauds. There we saw many
realistic, life-like statues and clicked thousands of pictures with all
my favorite celebrities. Then came the magnificent Times Square,
which we had seen in so many photographs and movies. It is the
most visited tourist location in the world and was bustling with
people and so full of energy. We shopped for souvenirs and saw a
stunt show there.
The next morning, we went to see the iconic Statue of Liberty.
Lady Liberty stands tall in New York Harbor and we took a ferry to
Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of
France to the people of the United States. It is a copper statue and
has slowly turned green over the years because of oxidation which
takes place when air and water react with copper. It is a statue of
a lady with a torch in her right hand and a book in the left hand. It
has two floors to observe the view around the island. One of the
new Seven Wonders of the World, the Statue of Liberty is truly a
spectacular monument.
Everything in USA and especially New York was amazing and one-
of-a-kind. These memories will stay with us forever.

in Class 9. I like playing music
instruments. EdTerra Edventures
planned a trip to USA for our class. I
was really waiting for the trip and was
very excited. As soon as we reached
USA, it was a different world in which
I thought that people come only for
enjoyment. As soon as we landed, we
met our EdTerra Journey Mentor. She
was very polite and she helped us a
lot in knowing USA. The visit to NASA
was very special as I got to know lots
about outer space. Our trip came to an
end but I wish I could go once again.
Hello! I am Kaustub Garg of Class 8
and I study at DPS, Sushant Lok. I
love to study and explore the world
of cars. I was so glad when EdTerra
Edventures organized this US East
Coast trip. It was a 12 day tour for
three schools including us. On this
tour, I developed a strong bond of
friendship with others. Orlando,
Niagara Falls, Washington, DC and
New York were fabulous. Of these,
Orlando was the most beautiful. In
New York, we went to the 102nd floor
of the One World Observatory and it
was so impressive. I would be very
glad if EdTerra Edventures keeps on
organizing such wonderful trips for
us.

63. Hey! My name is Lakshay Vohra and
I study in Class 8 at Delhi Public
School, Sushant Lok. I have a passion
for reading books and I love to travel
to different countries. It’s my dream
to run out of pages in my passport!
Our journey to the United States
of America was a very delightful
experience. It was a perfect balance
of education and fun. We enjoyed the
trip a lot. I went to Orlando, Niagara
Falls, Washington, DC and New York
City. This trip was organized by
EdTerra Edventures. Those few days
were some of the best days of my life.
Lakshay Vohra
My name is Maurya Jhingon and I’m
going to share my thoughts about
the trip. I honestly think it was a lot of
fun, a bit boring and very amazing. We
started with a long boring flight from
Delhi to Orlando. After the flight, the
fun part started in Orlando because of
the amusement parks and the pranks
between friends back in the hotel. In
between, I missed my parents and dog
but when I did, I video-called them. The
amazing part started after Orlando, in
Niagara and New York. When I saw
the Niagara Falls I was amazed to see
the mist and the gigantic falls and the
busy Times Square in New York City. It
was a fun trip.
I lived the life of an American for 12
days. My name is Neelanchal Tiwari
and I study in Delhi Public School,
Sushant Lok. This trip was my first
visit outside India and that too, to
one of the world’s superpowers. I was
so excited. I have always been very
interested in matters of outer space.
This trip had helped me learn more
about space and theme parks too.
This trip was a result of my desire
for knowledge and in the end, I made
many new friends. I also enjoyed New
York City. This trip was a memorable
one, with loads of fun with friends and
so many new discoveries.

64. Hello! I am Ojaswi Kumar. I am 13
years old, and just love to dance and
play cricket. We had gone on this trip
to USA with EdTerra Edventures, a
well-known student travel company.
This was mainly because my family
is interested in NASA and anything
related to science. Our journey
started with a visit to Kennedy Space
Center and a bus tour there. The
amusement parks (Disney’s Magic
Kingdom and Universal Studios) were
just indescribable. For a moment I
even thought that I was a resident
American enjoying all the rides out
there! And Niagara Falls, just the mist
from the Falls completely drenched
my clothes. New York City and the
amazing Times Square made this an
unforgettable experience.
Ojaswi Kumar
In those twelve days in USA, I lived
my life king-size and American style.
I really enjoyed the local food. The
tour of NASA was a good learning
experience. We had fun at Cocoa
Beach even though it was a stormy
day. Disney World and Universal
Studios were just amazing. I was
awestruck by Niagara Falls. The drive
to Washington, DC was long but worth
the wait to see the Capitol Building
and the White House. The drive to
New York was not so long. The 9/11
Memorial was my favorite. Then we
went to Times Square which is really
‘happening’. The night view of New
York was breathtaking. Now, I totally
agree that NYC is a “city that never
sleeps”.

65. Anticipation and fervor hovered over
our thoughts as our plane touched
American soil. It surely is a land
systematically planned that has
used technology to its benefit. We
could learn a lot. To start with, the
NASA experience broadened my
understanding of space ventures
to a large extent. The simulator
experience was enthralling giving
a faint hint of the real shuttle
experience. EdTerra Edventures
had meticulously organized the trip,
balancing it with recreational outings
in Disney World, Universal Studios,
Madame Tussauds, Times Square and
much more. Being a foodie, I enjoyed
the local street delicacies, pretzels,
bagels, doughnuts and hotdogs. In
conclusion, this has been a marvelous,
super exciting experience that will be
permanently etched in my memory.

student living in New Delhi and
studying at The Indian School. I love
sightseeing and outdoor adventures
and games. Cricket is the primary
sport I play and I also enjoy football.
Our journey across the US was a
unique experience as it combined
education and adventure. We visited
the East Coast of the country and
travelled across prominent cities like
Orlando, Buffalo, New York City and
Washington, DC. This journey fulfilled
my dream of visiting NASA and
learning about outer space. We also
visited Disney World and Universal
Studios in Orlando, Niagara Falls in
Buffalo, all the major parliamentary
buildings in Washington, DC and
Times Square in New York City. It was
a memorable trip.
I am Aarsh Kapoor, a student of
Class 12 at The Indian School. I love
playing cricket and listening to music.
My journey across various cities in
USA was a unique experience as it
combined education and adventure.
I just loved Universal Studios, it had
amazing rides and I especially loved
the Hulk roller coaster. We visited
Washington, DC, New York, Orlando
and Buffalo. We saw the spectacular
Niagara Falls and we walked down
Times Square. We bought Apple
products and shopped like 1 Dollar
was equal to 1 Rupee. We enjoyed
ourselves a lot, all thanks to Christine
Ma’am. She was very supportive.
I make music, write and read a lot,
though I sometimes just let my
laziness take over. I wanted to visit
USA and had a wish to know how and
why it is a superpower, developed
and ranked above our country. I
understood all about it thanks to this
trip now and it helped me comprehend
better, areas in which our own nation
needs changes, which are mainly
in the education sector. This trip
taught us about the achievements
of NASA in space exploration.. As for
the thrills and enjoyment, Orlando,
Buffalo and New York were amazing.
With awesome views and shopping,
Niagara Falls, Universal Studios,
Disney World and New York were
great. My first international trip, and
that too, to USA was great and I will
never forget it.

69. “Live life to your fullest”. Greetings! I
am Prachee Gupta and I am a student
of Class 12 at The Indian School. The
trip to the United States of America
organized by EdTerra Edventures
helped me to understand the true
meaning of the above mentioned

unforgettable. The most enlightening
experience were those two hours at
Times Square, my dream destination.
Experiencing all the rides at Universal

moment. Going on this trip made
me more independent and made to

Hello everyone! I am Riya Sandhu,
a student of Class 12 at The Indian
School. The journey to US was a
memorable one. The itinerary set by
EdTerra Edventures was really good.
We visited the best cities and had the
best time of our lives. We learned a
lot and also enjoyed ourselves while
learning. Being a Science student,
I really enjoyed the experience at
NASA. The amusement parks were
very exciting and the bus tours were
so amazing. New York was a great
place. I enjoyed myself at Times
Square. The best part was the time we
spent with our friends and the fights
for clicking pictures.
Hey! My name is Tanisha Mehndiratta
and I am in Class 6 at The Indian
School. I enjoy playing Badminton.
EdTerra Edventures took us on a trip
across the East Coast of USA. We
went very close to the loud sound
of the amazing Niagara Falls. It was
deafening. Our main spots were
the theme parks, Disney World and
Universal Studios. At these amazing
amusement parks, we went on the
coolest water rides. We even saw the
Disney Parade which, for me, was the
best part of Orlando. One of the tallest
buildings, the One World Observatory
was also impressive. We also went to
an Indian restaurant for dinner. It was
my first abroad and the best trip ever.
