AtGGInternationalSchool,Pune,webelievethatthereisnosubstitutefor‘educationthroughaction’andthatexploringplaces,people,
cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational
experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible global citizens and dynamic leaders by bringing the
knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to
create the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding, and international collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to the USA under a program titled EdTerra’s East Coast Space Adventure.
We chose this program for its focus on providing students useful exposure to space exploration and technology at NASA’s Kennedy
Space Center. They also visited natural and modern marvels of Niagara Falls, Boston, and New York City. To augment the broader
program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Review
is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students of GG International School, Pune, along with EuroSchool
Wakad, actively participated in. It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their
learning from this engaging journey to one of the world’s most advanced nations.
I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra Edventures, a company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular
goals in addition to the developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey
educator, the Journey Mentor, and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism has resulted in an effortless, safe, and enriching
travel experience for each one of us and for the group. Each parent may feel proud of this publication that will keep reminding their
wards of their achievements and capabilities, lifelong.
Happy reading!

7. MESSAGE FROM EDTERRA
MESSAGE FROM EDTERRA
Sincerely,
Amita Bajaj
Editor - Student Publications
Dear readers,
An educational journey to foreign lands always induces learning and excitement among young and inquisitive students. When the
destination is as diverse as the USA East Coast, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students would absorb and
construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of India and the USA.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a meaningful encounter with a
new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through
its Program Development Team (PDT), which comprises both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally
neutral projects that enable students to meaningfully observe, record, and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed
through a process that encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions besides recording observations through digital means,
all of which is finally synthesised into a media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students.
This Student Travel Review, ‘USA East Coast Space Adventure’, is one such media product that captures the learning of the students of
GG International School, Pune, on their journey to the Kennedy Space Center, Orlando along with Boston, New York City, and Niagara
Falls. This book serves as a window into the USA and above all, the inspiring world of NASA, especially valuable for those students,
peers, and parents who could not be a part of the program. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, the
credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank GG International School, Pune, for their efforts and support, which made this educational
journey possible. We especially thank the Principal, Ms. Sonu Gupta, for guiding us. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying
teachers for being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their energy made our work easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable
journey for the students. We encourage you to read and relive the learning and adventures of these students through the words and
photographs that follow.

About the Authors 54
12. Our journey to the USA started after we reached Orlando, a
beautiful city with perfect weather. Orlando is a vibrant and
exciting city that offers something for everyone. From
world-famous theme parks to cultural attractions, the city has
a lot to offer for both tourists and locals.
We visited Walt Disney World and felt like we were four years
old. The best part was meeting all the Disney characters espe-
cially Mickey Mouse and watching the Disney parade and
fireworks at last. Next day, we visited Universal Studios, where
thrilling rides awaited us. The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Doctor
Doom’s Fearfall, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adven-
ture — all of them were fantastic. We also rode on Jurassic
Park River Adventure, which is a water-based amusement ride.
Next, we went to the Kennedy Space Center and had lunch
with Mr Jerry Ross, an astronaut. We learnt about the lives of
astronauts, their achievements and the sacrifices they had
made in order to pursue such a difficult career. We also learnt
about the successes of NASA over the last few decades. Next,
we went to Cocoa Beach and relaxed there.
From Orlando, we went to Buffalo, where the weather was
super chilly. Niagara Falls was beautiful. Riding on the Maid of
the Mist ferry was spectacular. Then, we travelled to Boston,
where we went to Harvard University and MIT. The vibe there
was unique and all the students seemed motivated.
After this, we went to New York City. Truly, NYC never sleeps.
We went to the famous Central Park and saw Broadway Thea-
tre. We also visited the 9/11 Memorial, Freedom Tower and
many other places. We saw a panoramic view of New York City
from the One World Observatory, which is situated on the
100–102 floors of One World Trade Center.
Overall, it was surely a memorable and a life-changing trip.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER

“Exploration is the real essence of the human spirit.”
The John F. Kennedy Space Center is one of the ten National
Aeronautics and Space Administration field centers. It has
been NASA’s primary launch centre for human spaceflight
since 1968. The Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex is a
tribute to the work and hardship of tens of thousands of
people.
We started our journey by meeting the heroes of space and
getting to know about their experiences. The Heroes &
Legends Exhibition consists of a number of exhibits describ-
ing the achievements of NASA astronauts and technicians.
We learnt that Alan Shepard became the first American
citizen to explore space after struggling a lot. We saw a model
spaceship design and a proper spacesuit. We learnt and read
about how spaceships and spacesuits are made. We also sat
in a spaceship. A model launch centre room added to the
spectacle.
At the Kennedy Space Center, we also got the opportunity to
have lunch with an astronaut, Mr Jerry Ross. He told us about
his own personal experience in space, how they used to
exercise in space, how they used to eat, and carry out other
operations. He told us that he had worked with Kalpana
Chawla, the first Indian woman to go into space. Later in the
day, we saw a 3D movie about the history of the International
Space Station and how astronauts live in space.
On the second day, we took a shuttle tour around the gigantic
KSC complex and saw the launch pads, the crawlers, Vehicle
Assembly Building, SpaceX and the Boeing offices. We were
excited to see the Vehicle Assembly Building, which is the
largest single-storey structure in the world. We saw shuttle
launch pads quite closely. We also saw the humongous Saturn
V rocket and we even got to touch a real moon rock. Finally, we
saw Apollo 11, which enabled human landing missions on the
moon. It was an eye-opening experience about the risk and
hardship that goes into exploring space. All in all, our visit to
the Kennedy Space Center was a thrilling experience.

AMUSEMENT PARKS
Written and photographed by: Arjun, Kajal, Khushi, Mohar, Prajakta, & Sarthak
(GG International School)
Our trip to Walt Disney World and other amusement parks
was a fun and memorable experience. It is home to four differ-
ent parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and
Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom, the most popular park,
features classic Disney attractions such as Cinderella's Castle,
Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain. Epcot is a
celebration of technology, innovation and international
cultures, and Hollywood Studios offers immersive experiences
in the world of movies and television. Animal Kingdom, the
newest park, is dedicated to wildlife conservation and features
exciting animal exhibits and thrilling rides.
We met all the Disney characters and saw the Disney parade
and fireworks. There were many animated characters includ-
ing Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Cinderella and Snow
White. After that, we decided to enjoy the rides. Although the
waiting queues for the rides were very long, we enjoyed
ourselves to the fullest. Then, we went to have our dinner, but
there were no Indian restaurants and finding vegetarian food
seemed like a nightmare. We got lost, asked people about the
directions, then came to the entrance and went back.
Next, we went to Universal Studios, which is divided into two
sections: Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
Universal Studios Florida features attractions based on popu-
lar movies and television shows, such as Harry Potter, Trans-
formers and The Simpsons. At Universal Studios, we had a lot
of fun because of the roller coaster rides. The Incredible Hulk
Coaster was the scariest and a lot of us were afraid to try it.
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man was another thrilling
ride. Many of us went on rides meant for small children. It was
exciting to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The
Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a highlight of Universal
Studios and features two areas: Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
We enjoyed rides such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden
Journey and the Escape from Gringotts. And it was a dream
come true experience to explore Hogwarts Castle and the
Three Broomsticks.
There were a lot of games to play and shows to watch at
Universal Studios. One of them was a live-action show called
Poseidon’s Fury that featured some brilliant special effects.
Overall, our visit to amusement parks was a great experience.

NIAGARA FALLS

Niagara Falls lies on the international border shared by the
USA and Canada. Our visit to Niagara Falls was an amazing
experience. We also got to know that Niagara Falls is actually
a combination of three waterfalls — American Falls, Bridal Veil
Falls and Canadian or Horseshoe Falls. However, the plan to see
the waterfall in extreme weather is not a very good idea.
Niagara Falls is truly a sight to behold. The powerful force of
the water crashing down creates a deafening roar that can be
heard for miles. The mist from the falls can be seen from miles
away and creates a magical and otherworldly atmosphere. The
view of the falls is breathtaking, especially at night when the
falls are illuminated with multicoloured lights.
While some of us enjoyed the cold weather, others did not like
the cold. During our visit, we learnt that this massive waterfall
is a major source of hydroelectric power in both countries. At
Niagara Falls, we went on a ferry ride called the Maid of the
Mist, which was very good. While riding the ferry, we wore
coloured raincoats to prevent ourselves from getting wet from
the spray of mist.
Another way to experience the falls is by taking a walk along
the Niagara Parkway. The parkway offers stunning views of the
falls and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos. Visitors
can also visit Niagara Falls State Park on the American side or
Niagara Falls Park on the Canadian side to explore the natural
beauty of the area.
The scenic beauty of Niagara Falls was magical. All of us stood
with each other and helped everyone. We enjoyed visiting
Niagara Falls a lot.

NEW YORK

New York City was our favourite destination and most impor-
tantly, it was quite clean. Although the city looks very busy yet,
everything works smoothly and systematically. Our visit to
Times Square was definitely the highlight of the trip. The
bright lights and big screens were something new for all of us,
and we had an amazing time exploring the area. It was fasci-
nating to see the hustle and bustle of the city at its peak, and
we couldn't help but feel energised by the vibrancy of the
atmosphere.
However, the most poignant moment of our trip was undoubt-
edly the visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The museum
was a heart-wrenching reminder of the tragic events of
September 11, 2001, and the loss and recovery that followed.
It was inspiring to see how the monument was able to repre-
sent the strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face
of adversity.
Another highlight of our trip was the visit to the Freedom
Tower, also known as the One World Trade Center. The view of
the city from the tower was nothing short of breathtaking, and
it was incredible to see how far the city has come since the
events of 9/11.
We were also captivated by the Brooklyn Bridge, which is a
true marvel of engineering and design. It was awe-inspiring to
see how this historic landmark has stood the test of time and
continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
Despite the chilly weather, we were able to adjust well to the
climate, and we were thrilled to discover that we could enjoy
some amazing Indian food in the city. The multiculturalism of
New York City was truly remarkable, and it was inspiring to see
how people from different backgrounds and cultures could
come together to create something truly special.
From the bright lights of Times Square to the poignant 9/11
Memorial, we were able to witness the best that this city has to
offer, and we are excited to come back and explore more in the
future.
