ON THIS EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY,
BCM ARYA MODEL SR. SEC. SCHOOL VISITED
THE FOLLOWING NATIONS:
FROM
THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
At BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, we believe that there is no substitute
for ‘education through action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and
completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to
create responsible global citizens and dynamic leaders by bringing the knowledge of
the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world.
These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on
empathy, understanding, and international collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Europe as a part of an
educational program. Our students visited several beautiful locations in Germany, Italy,
and Switzerland. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors
Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel
Review is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students of
BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, along with the students of Strawberry Fields
High School, Chandigarh. It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and
photographs. It even showcases their learning from their active interaction with some
of the world’s most enigmatic nations.
I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra Edventures, a company that is well
aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students.
We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educators.
Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe, and enriching travel experience for
our students and teachers.
Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students, who participated in the program so
enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits
of which they will reap all throughout their academic lives and careers. Each parent may
feel proud of this highly demonstrable publication that will keep reminding their wards
of their achievements and capabilities, all lifelong.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paramjit Kaur

An educational journey to foreign lands always induces learning and excitement among
young and inquisitive students. When the destinations are as diverse as Germany, Italy,
and Switzerland, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students would
absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark
the cultures and people of India and Europe.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun and
excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through
its Program Development Team (PDT), which comprises both Indian and international
experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally neutral projects that enable students to
meaningfully observe, record, and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed
through a process that encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions besides
recording observations through digital means, all of which is finally synthesised into a
media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students.
This Student Travel Review, ‘Enchanting Europe: Germany, Italy, and Switzerland’ is one
such media product that captures the journey of learning of the students of BCM Arya
Model Sr. Sec. School. This book serves as a window into the marvels of Europe, especially
valuable for those students, peers, and parents who could not be a part of the program.
It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, the credit for which
is rightfully due to their parents and school.
would like to thank BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, for their efforts and
support.WeespeciallywanttothankDr.ParamjitKaur,forguidingus.EdTerrawouldalso
like to thank the accompanying teachers for being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their
energy made our work easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey
for the students. We encourage you to read and relive the learning and adventures of
these students through the words and photographs that follow.

OUR JOURNEY
Written and photographed by: Bismaad, Daksh, Harshdeep, Hridhay, & Raghav
(BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School)
Our journey started at midnight when we set off
from Ludhiana for Delhi International Airport. All
of us were really excited for the trip. We had our
breakfast en route to Delhi. After reaching Delhi,
we met our Journey Mentor, Ms. Sunna Kataria,
and other students from Strawberry Fields High
School, Chandigarh. After clearing security and
checking in at the airport, we boarded our flight
to Dubai. On reaching the airport in Dubai, we ate
snacks and bought gifts from the stores there.
After spending an hour at the airport, we boarded
our connecting flight from Dubai to Munich. After
a long journey, we reached our destination —
Munich. All of us were really tired after travelling
for so long. Then, we rushed to a restaurant for
eating an Indian dinner. After having a delicious
dinner, we reached our hotel, checked into our
rooms, and slept off.
Next day, we woke up with immense enthusiasm
and continued our journey. Firstly, we went
to the BMW Museum where we learnt some
awesome facts about BMW cars. We saw how
those fantastic automobiles are assembled and
its interiors are made of carbon fibre. Later, we
proceeded to the Dachau Concentration Camp
Memorial Site but unfortunately, it was closed.
Thereafter, we left for Austria.
Next morning, we visited Innsbruck, which
seemed very beautiful. We shopped for many
things and clicked a few photographs. Then, we
boarded a bus to go to Padova where we stayed
for two days. On the first day, we went for a
gondola ride through the Venetian canals and it
was an amazing experience. Our tour guide shared
some amazing facts about the city. We also
visited Saint Mark’s Basilica to see its brilliant
architecture. Then, we watched a glass-blowing
demonstration, which intrigued us all. We saw a
huge range of glass pieces in varied shapes and
myriad colours.
Our journey continued as we went to Geneva via
Milan in a bus. In Geneva, we visited the United
Nation Office. We also visited a chocolate factory
and tasted several varieties of chocolates. We
bought sweet delicacies for our family members
and friends back in India. Last but certainly not
the least, we visited Mount Titlis in Zurich. In
Zurich, we saw lush green mountains with cattle
grazing and heard the tingling sounds of cowbells
everywhere. Mount Titlis was covered with snow
and the most adventurous part of our visit was
riding the Ice Flyer. Overall, our journey to Europe
was a fascinating experience.

After the excitement of seeing superbly-designed
cars at the BMW Museum in Munich, we took a
six-hour bus drive to arrive in Padova, our point
of entry into Italy. Padova is the oldest city in
northern Italy, which is situated very close to
Venice.
All of us were eager to try the mouth-watering
Italian cuisine and visit places that we had only
imagined until now. We took a ferry to reach the
mainland and saw the historic St. Mark’s Square.
It is fondly referred to as ‘the drawing room of
Europe’ because of the large number of tourists
visiting this place. We observed the splendid
architecture of St. Mark’s Basilica that forms
the centrepiece of the square. We saw the Grand
Canal, which serves as the central waterway of
Venice. The canal is lined with several magnificent,
grand buildings, some of which were built in the
13th and 14th centuries.
The Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs were
really beautiful. It was the first time that we
saw an enclosed bridge and also learnt about the
history behind its fascinating name. It is said that
the prisoners had to cross the bridge on their
way to being executed in the past times. They
would look out of multiple tiny windows to catch
a last glimpse of the city of Venice and sigh. This
is how the bridge got its name.
Next, our tour guide took us on a gondola ride
through the Venetian canals. The highlight of
our trip to Italy was watching a glass-blowing
demonstration at a factory in Murano. We were
mesmerised by the skill and artistry behind those
marvellous creations.
In Venice, we also enjoyed shopping. We loved
trying out Italian dishes during our visit. Our day
came to an end when we returned to the hotel
via a ferry. In Milan, we ate a very delicious lunch
in a commercial area. Our visit to Venice was an
unforgettable experience. We would remember
this trip to Europe for our whole lives. We would
like to thank EdTerra Edventures for giving us
such an awesome opportunity.

Our trip to Europe was spectacular. During the
trip, we went to Germany, Austria, Italy, and
Switzerland. We learnt about the history, art,
and culture of each country. While travelling
independently in foreign countries, we acquired
certain skills such as punctuality and teamwork.
While travelling from one place to another, we
really enjoyed along with our friends and teachers.
The city centres in Munich and Innsbruck look
splendid and we enjoyed walking around those
places. In Switzerland, we enjoyed seeing the
snow-clad mountains and lush green pasture
areas. Although the weather in Italy was warm,
yet we enjoyed ourselves a lot. If the weather
would have been relatively more pleasant, our
trip would have been just perfect.
When we reached Germany, all of us were
really exhausted. We realised that we had to be
awake early the next morning. Although we felt
inconvenient to maintain time schedules, it was
important to be punctual all the time.
Munich is home to centuries-old buildings and
there are several wonderful museums too. The
city is known all over the world for its annual
Oktoberfest celebration. Munich is also home to
one of the oldest theatres in the world. We saw
that the locals were very environment-friendly
unlike the cities of India. They use bicycles for
traversing small distances and they do not litter
the city streets as much as we do.
We visited the BMW Museum and Marienplatz,
or the chief city centre of Munich. The BMW
Museum is an ultimate destination for all those
who are really enthusiastic about high-end
automobiles. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit
to the BMW Museum because we saw so many
iconic models of cars. We clicked a number of
photographs. As per our itinerary, we had to visit
the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site,
but it was shut down.
Our visit to Munich gave us an insight into German
history and culture. Most importantly, we learnt
about the turbulent history of Germany during
the World Wars in the early 20th century. It is
inspiring to see how its citizens have recovered
from the loss and instability of the past decades.
Our school trip to Europe was an experience of a
lifetime. We would love to go on more trips like
this one in the future.

On our educational tour to Europe, we visited
Switzerland. left from Padova to go to Geneva.
The bus journey took us about eight hours. By the
time we reached Switzerland, we felt really tired.
However, the scenic views of the mountains and
the valleys rejuvenated us.
At first, we stopped for a short break near Lake
Geneva. As soon as we reached, we got out of
the bus and went out to breathe in the fresh air
at the lake nearby. Next day, we woke up early
to go on a guided tour of the United Nations
Office. The best part of our visit was walking
inside the UNHRC Hall. It was gigantic and the
ceiling adorned several beautiful sculptures.
Later, we also shopped at the souvenir shop.
Then, we travelled to the town of Gruyères. We
ate a fabulous lunch. We tried some local dishes,
especially desserts that we had never even heard
of.
After an hour-long journey, we reached the
chocolate factory of Maison Cailler — a well-
renowned brand of chocolate. The brand is
about 200 years old. At the chocolate factory,
we learnt about the origin of chocolate-making
process. The cocoa beans that are used for
making chocolate were first grown in the Aztec
Empire. The Aztec kingdom was crushed by the
Europeans who later introduced chocolate to
different parts of Europe. At first, chocolate was
seen as an intoxicating drink, but later it was
proved that if consumed in less quantity, it could
also be a delicious meal. We went to the shop
inside the factory and bought delectable Swiss
chocolates for our friends and family members.
Thereafter, we left for Zurich and stayed there for
two nights. Next morning, we woke up early, ate
breakfast, and left for Mount Titlis. Our visit to
Mount Titlis was a great adventure. We enjoyed
sliding in and out while playing in the snow. Then,
we headed to a restaurant for lunch. Later, we
went to Lucerne and saw the Lion Monument. It
was the last day of our trip to Europe. We had a
great time in Switzerland and our trip to Europe
was a fabulous experience.

TOURIST FRIENDLY EU CITIES
Written and photographed by: Arjun, Armaan, Mankaran, Niyonica & Tanya
(Strawberry Fields High School)
Our trip to Europe began when we landed in
Munich via Dubai. We looked forward to a
journey that we had never experienced before.
When we landed in Munich, all of us were really
tired and there was a long line at the immigration
counter. Luckily, the officials hurried through the
procedures and all the formalities were cleared in
lesser time than expected.
When we came out of the airport, we realised
that our coach driver had taken another group
by mistake leaving us stranded. However, our
Journey Mentor was prompt to arrange another
coach for us within a short span of 20 minutes.
Finally, we were on the move. Although it was
dark, Munich still seemed beautiful. The contrast
between the architecture of new and old buildings
was striking. As soon as we reached the hotel, we
slept off. Unfortunately, next day, our guided tour
of the BMW Museum was delayed and our visit to
the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site
had to be cancelled. The disappointment was
palpable, but we continued to move forward.
Next, we rode on a bus to go to Innsbruck. We
did not realise how time flew by. We saw some
stunning views of the mountains. We captured
some picturesque views through clicking
photographs. The small town of Innsbruck with
its beautiful architecture awed us. The cobbled
streets and the colourful buildings were truly
a beautiful sight to behold. At the Swarovski
Crystal Worlds, the sheer number of crystals
shining on every sculpture, every bracelet, and
other pieces of jewellery left us in awe.
When we reached Venice, we rode on a ferry
to the city with the wind blowing through our
hair and the sun shining down our backs. Upon
reaching there, we headed off for a gondola
ride through the Venetian waterways. It was a
unique experience that thrilled us all. Next, we
visited a glass factory in Murano as soon as our
orientation tour ended. The air shimmered above
the furnace when the glassworker pulled out a
rod covered with melted glass. We felt warmth
on our faces due to the intense heat as we saw
a magnificent horse being created by the expert
craftsperson. His skilled hands worked brilliantly
as he moulded the glass to sculpt the figure.
During our journey, we also visited Zurich,
Geneva, and Lucerne. We went for a tour of the
UN Office and visited a chocolate factory. The
best part of our journey was visiting Mount Titlis.
Viewing the beautiful landscapes was wonderful.
In conclusion, we would like to thank EdTerra
Edventures for organising such an amazing tour.

tight schedule. Travelling to every place along with my friends and teachers was
memorable. Some Europeans were not very cooperative, however, the journey was
worthwhile. I would like to thank EdTerra Edventures for organising this trip.
Karan Bal
My name is Karan and I am 14 years old. I am a student of Strawberry Fields High
School. Recently, I went on a school trip to Europe. I liked all the countries that we
visited. We went to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. Sometimes, it took us
a very long time to travel from one place to another. At times, we felt very tired but
we always looked forward to exploring every place. Our Journey Mentor was very
cooperative and responsible.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Udish Arora
My name is Udish Arora and I study in Class 8, Strawberry Fields High School. Our
journey to Europe was a fantastic experience. We visited many famous places in
Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. However, all of us got really tired travelling
from one place to another. Some hotels did not have air-conditioners and we felt
uncomfortable at times. Our Journey Mentor, Sunna Ma’am, made this journey really
memorable for all of us. This journey has taught me to be disciplined and travel
independently.
Sabyasachi Pruthi
My name is Sabyasachi and I study in Class 9, Strawberry Fields High School. I
personally think that our trip to Germany, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland was really
nice and enjoyable. In fact, I personally think there should be one such trip organised
every year. Every day of the journey brought a new adventure. The hotels were very
comfortable. Even though Italy was not as clean as compared to Switzerland, there
were many historical buildings there. Our Journey Mentor, Sunna Ma’am, is one of the
best people that I have ever met in my life.
Jashan Dhillon
I am Jashan and I study in Class 10, Strawberry Fields High School. Our journey
to Europe was fascinating, but it was more about travelling from one place to
another rather than visiting new places. We travelled to Italy, Germany, Austria, and
Switzerland. Our visit to Mount Titlis was really wonderful. I enjoyed along with my
friends and teachers at every place that we visited. Our Journey Mentor was very
cheerful and cooperative. This trip has taught me to become disciplined and punctual.
Somiel Siwach
I am Somiel Siwach and I study in Class 10, Strawberry Fields High School. Our
journey to Europe was a fantastic learning experience. Some hotels were not as good
as expected and the food at most of the places was average. Sometimes, we used to
feel tired going from one place to another. We visited the UN Office in Geneva, which
was really insightful. During the journey, I learnt to adapt to different conditions
without any difficulty. Our trip to Europe was a fabulous experience. I would like to
thank EdTerra for organising such a fascinating journey.

Arjun Singh Nain
My name is Arjun Singh Nain and I am a student of Strawberry Fields High School.
On this trip to Europe, I enjoyed a lot along with my friends. Being with my friends
in a foreign country was a great experience. We explored several places together.
This trip has made me independent. It has also taught me to adapt to different kinds
of situations. I felt that the trip was too short because we spent so much time
travelling from one place to another. At some places, the food was not so nice. Our
Journey Mentor was extremely supportive throughout the journey.
Armaan Gupta
My name is Armaan and I am 15 years old. During our journey to Europe, I enjoyed
a lot. It felt like a long road trip at times because we were always on the move. The
duration was too short and there was little time to settle down and relax. However,
the last few hotels and meals were really good and we had fun while visiting Mount
Titlis, the UN Office in Geneva, and the BMW Museum in Munich. Our Journey Mentor
was very enterprising. I think that this trip should have been longer, so we could focus
on actually enjoying every place rather than just ticking it off the itinerary.
Mankaran Dhillon
I am Mankaran Dhillon and I study in Class 9. I like to play guitar. Playing video games
is another of my hobbies. We thoroughly enjoyed while travelling from one place to
another. Mount Titlis was the best of all the places that we visited on our trip to
Europe. We participated in a number of adventurous activities there. I made many
new friends during the journey. Our trip would not have been so enjoyable without
our Journey Mentor, Ms Sunna. I really liked the hotels and food in Switzerland. During
the journey, I learnt the importance of time management. Overall, our journey was a
fascinating experience.
TOURIST FRIENDLY EU CITIES
Niyonica Garg
I am Niyonica and I study in Class 11, Strawberry Fields High School. Our journey
to Europe was really amazing. We went to Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
We visited the cities of Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Zurich, Geneva, and Lucerne. I
was very happy to see the rich greenery at every place that we went to. Learning
about the rich history of each building made their architecture and design seem so
wonderful. Although I was looking forward to visiting the Dachau Concentration
Camp Memorial Site, we could not visit that place due to our tight schedule. During
the trip, I thoroughly enjoyed along with my friends. Overall, our trip was a great
learning experience.

Tanya Kataria
My name is Tanya Kataria and I am 15 years old. I am a student of Strawberry Fields
High School. Our journey to Europe along with my school friends was very enjoyable.
I got several chances to sit by myself and sketch the beautiful scenic landscapes. I
loved visiting Innsbruck, a charming town in Austria known for its cobbled streets and
beautiful architecture. Venice was equally amazing although the heat and humidity
dampened the experience to some extent. The gondola ride was simply amazing.
There was so much to discover in every little nook and corner of European cities. Our
entire trip was an unforgettable experience.

Shabnam Singha
A school trip with children is a wonderful opportunity for any educator to get
acquainted with the youngsters as one finds them away from the formal school
setting. One such meaningful opportunity came when I accompanied a group of 13 high
school students from Strawberry Fields High School for an educational trip to Europe.
Being the High School Coordinator, I could not have missed this chance to travel
with young students. During our journey, we visited Munich in Germany, Innsbruck in
Austria, Padova and Venice in Italy, and Geneva and Lucerne in Switzerland. I learnt
to remain patient and cooperate with my fellow companions.

  • 4. FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK At BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, we believe that there is no substitute for ‘education through action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible global citizens and dynamic leaders by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding, and international collaboration. In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Europe as a part of an educational program. Our students visited several beautiful locations in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Review is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students of BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, along with the students of Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh. It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from their active interaction with some of the world’s most enigmatic nations. I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra Edventures, a company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educators. Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe, and enriching travel experience for our students and teachers. Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students, who participated in the program so enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits of which they will reap all throughout their academic lives and careers. Each parent may feel proud of this highly demonstrable publication that will keep reminding their wards of their achievements and capabilities, all lifelong. Sincerely, Dr. Paramjit Kaur Principal BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana
  • 5. An educational journey to foreign lands always induces learning and excitement among young and inquisitive students. When the destinations are as diverse as Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students would absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of India and Europe. For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a meaningful encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program Development Team (PDT), which comprises both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally neutral projects that enable students to meaningfully observe, record, and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions besides recording observations through digital means, all of which is finally synthesised into a media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students. This Student Travel Review, ‘Enchanting Europe: Germany, Italy, and Switzerland’ is one such media product that captures the journey of learning of the students of BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School. This book serves as a window into the marvels of Europe, especially valuable for those students, peers, and parents who could not be a part of the program. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, the credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school. would like to thank BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, for their efforts and support.WeespeciallywanttothankDr.ParamjitKaur,forguidingus.EdTerrawouldalso like to thank the accompanying teachers for being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their energy made our work easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We encourage you to read and relive the learning and adventures of these students through the words and photographs that follow. • 10. OUR JOURNEY Written and photographed by: Bismaad, Daksh, Harshdeep, Hridhay, & Raghav (BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School) Our journey started at midnight when we set off from Ludhiana for Delhi International Airport. All of us were really excited for the trip. We had our breakfast en route to Delhi. After reaching Delhi, we met our Journey Mentor, Ms. Sunna Kataria, and other students from Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh. After clearing security and checking in at the airport, we boarded our flight to Dubai. On reaching the airport in Dubai, we ate snacks and bought gifts from the stores there. After spending an hour at the airport, we boarded our connecting flight from Dubai to Munich. After a long journey, we reached our destination — Munich. All of us were really tired after travelling for so long. Then, we rushed to a restaurant for eating an Indian dinner. After having a delicious dinner, we reached our hotel, checked into our rooms, and slept off. Next day, we woke up with immense enthusiasm and continued our journey. Firstly, we went to the BMW Museum where we learnt some awesome facts about BMW cars. We saw how those fantastic automobiles are assembled and its interiors are made of carbon fibre. Later, we proceeded to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site but unfortunately, it was closed. Thereafter, we left for Austria. Next morning, we visited Innsbruck, which seemed very beautiful. We shopped for many things and clicked a few photographs. Then, we boarded a bus to go to Padova where we stayed for two days. On the first day, we went for a gondola ride through the Venetian canals and it was an amazing experience. Our tour guide shared some amazing facts about the city. We also visited Saint Mark’s Basilica to see its brilliant architecture. Then, we watched a glass-blowing demonstration, which intrigued us all. We saw a huge range of glass pieces in varied shapes and myriad colours. Our journey continued as we went to Geneva via Milan in a bus. In Geneva, we visited the United Nation Office. We also visited a chocolate factory and tasted several varieties of chocolates. We bought sweet delicacies for our family members and friends back in India. Last but certainly not the least, we visited Mount Titlis in Zurich. In Zurich, we saw lush green mountains with cattle grazing and heard the tingling sounds of cowbells everywhere. Mount Titlis was covered with snow and the most adventurous part of our visit was riding the Ice Flyer. Overall, our journey to Europe was a fascinating experience. 10

School) After the excitement of seeing superbly-designed cars at the BMW Museum in Munich, we took a six-hour bus drive to arrive in Padova, our point of entry into Italy. Padova is the oldest city in northern Italy, which is situated very close to Venice. All of us were eager to try the mouth-watering Italian cuisine and visit places that we had only imagined until now. We took a ferry to reach the mainland and saw the historic St. Mark’s Square. It is fondly referred to as ‘the drawing room of Europe’ because of the large number of tourists visiting this place. We observed the splendid architecture of St. Mark’s Basilica that forms the centrepiece of the square. We saw the Grand Canal, which serves as the central waterway of Venice. The canal is lined with several magnificent, grand buildings, some of which were built in the 13th and 14th centuries. The Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs were really beautiful. It was the first time that we saw an enclosed bridge and also learnt about the history behind its fascinating name. It is said that the prisoners had to cross the bridge on their way to being executed in the past times. They would look out of multiple tiny windows to catch a last glimpse of the city of Venice and sigh. This is how the bridge got its name. Next, our tour guide took us on a gondola ride through the Venetian canals. The highlight of our trip to Italy was watching a glass-blowing demonstration at a factory in Murano. We were mesmerised by the skill and artistry behind those marvellous creations. In Venice, we also enjoyed shopping. We loved trying out Italian dishes during our visit. Our day came to an end when we returned to the hotel via a ferry. In Milan, we ate a very delicious lunch in a commercial area. Our visit to Venice was an unforgettable experience. We would remember this trip to Europe for our whole lives. We would like to thank EdTerra Edventures for giving us such an awesome opportunity. 18

  • 26. GERMANY Written and photographed by: Breena, Haraziz, Karan & Parth (Strawberry Fields High School) Our trip to Europe was spectacular. During the trip, we went to Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. We learnt about the history, art, and culture of each country. While travelling independently in foreign countries, we acquired certain skills such as punctuality and teamwork. While travelling from one place to another, we really enjoyed along with our friends and teachers. The city centres in Munich and Innsbruck look splendid and we enjoyed walking around those places. In Switzerland, we enjoyed seeing the snow-clad mountains and lush green pasture areas. Although the weather in Italy was warm, yet we enjoyed ourselves a lot. If the weather would have been relatively more pleasant, our trip would have been just perfect. When we reached Germany, all of us were really exhausted. We realised that we had to be awake early the next morning. Although we felt inconvenient to maintain time schedules, it was important to be punctual all the time. Munich is home to centuries-old buildings and there are several wonderful museums too. The city is known all over the world for its annual Oktoberfest celebration. Munich is also home to one of the oldest theatres in the world. We saw that the locals were very environment-friendly unlike the cities of India. They use bicycles for traversing small distances and they do not litter the city streets as much as we do. We visited the BMW Museum and Marienplatz, or the chief city centre of Munich. The BMW Museum is an ultimate destination for all those who are really enthusiastic about high-end automobiles. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the BMW Museum because we saw so many iconic models of cars. We clicked a number of photographs. As per our itinerary, we had to visit the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, but it was shut down. Our visit to Munich gave us an insight into German history and culture. Most importantly, we learnt about the turbulent history of Germany during the World Wars in the early 20th century. It is inspiring to see how its citizens have recovered from the loss and instability of the past decades. Our school trip to Europe was an experience of a lifetime. We would love to go on more trips like this one in the future. 26

  • 34. SWITZERLAND Written and photographed by: Jashan, Sabyasachi, Somiel, & Udish (Strawberry Fields High School) On our educational tour to Europe, we visited Switzerland. left from Padova to go to Geneva. The bus journey took us about eight hours. By the time we reached Switzerland, we felt really tired. However, the scenic views of the mountains and the valleys rejuvenated us. At first, we stopped for a short break near Lake Geneva. As soon as we reached, we got out of the bus and went out to breathe in the fresh air at the lake nearby. Next day, we woke up early to go on a guided tour of the United Nations Office. The best part of our visit was walking inside the UNHRC Hall. It was gigantic and the ceiling adorned several beautiful sculptures. Later, we also shopped at the souvenir shop. Then, we travelled to the town of Gruyères. We ate a fabulous lunch. We tried some local dishes, especially desserts that we had never even heard of. After an hour-long journey, we reached the chocolate factory of Maison Cailler — a well- renowned brand of chocolate. The brand is about 200 years old. At the chocolate factory, we learnt about the origin of chocolate-making process. The cocoa beans that are used for making chocolate were first grown in the Aztec Empire. The Aztec kingdom was crushed by the Europeans who later introduced chocolate to different parts of Europe. At first, chocolate was seen as an intoxicating drink, but later it was proved that if consumed in less quantity, it could also be a delicious meal. We went to the shop inside the factory and bought delectable Swiss chocolates for our friends and family members. Thereafter, we left for Zurich and stayed there for two nights. Next morning, we woke up early, ate breakfast, and left for Mount Titlis. Our visit to Mount Titlis was a great adventure. We enjoyed sliding in and out while playing in the snow. Then, we headed to a restaurant for lunch. Later, we went to Lucerne and saw the Lion Monument. It was the last day of our trip to Europe. We had a great time in Switzerland and our trip to Europe was a fabulous experience. 34

  • 42. TOURIST FRIENDLY EU CITIES Written and photographed by: Arjun, Armaan, Mankaran, Niyonica & Tanya (Strawberry Fields High School) Our trip to Europe began when we landed in Munich via Dubai. We looked forward to a journey that we had never experienced before. When we landed in Munich, all of us were really tired and there was a long line at the immigration counter. Luckily, the officials hurried through the procedures and all the formalities were cleared in lesser time than expected. When we came out of the airport, we realised that our coach driver had taken another group by mistake leaving us stranded. However, our Journey Mentor was prompt to arrange another coach for us within a short span of 20 minutes. Finally, we were on the move. Although it was dark, Munich still seemed beautiful. The contrast between the architecture of new and old buildings was striking. As soon as we reached the hotel, we slept off. Unfortunately, next day, our guided tour of the BMW Museum was delayed and our visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site had to be cancelled. The disappointment was palpable, but we continued to move forward. Next, we rode on a bus to go to Innsbruck. We did not realise how time flew by. We saw some stunning views of the mountains. We captured some picturesque views through clicking photographs. The small town of Innsbruck with its beautiful architecture awed us. The cobbled streets and the colourful buildings were truly a beautiful sight to behold. At the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, the sheer number of crystals shining on every sculpture, every bracelet, and other pieces of jewellery left us in awe. When we reached Venice, we rode on a ferry to the city with the wind blowing through our hair and the sun shining down our backs. Upon reaching there, we headed off for a gondola ride through the Venetian waterways. It was a unique experience that thrilled us all. Next, we visited a glass factory in Murano as soon as our orientation tour ended. The air shimmered above the furnace when the glassworker pulled out a rod covered with melted glass. We felt warmth on our faces due to the intense heat as we saw a magnificent horse being created by the expert craftsperson. His skilled hands worked brilliantly as he moulded the glass to sculpt the figure. During our journey, we also visited Zurich, Geneva, and Lucerne. We went for a tour of the UN Office and visited a chocolate factory. The best part of our journey was visiting Mount Titlis. Viewing the beautiful landscapes was wonderful. In conclusion, we would like to thank EdTerra Edventures for organising such an amazing tour. 42
