Through Action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic opportunities, and
technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational
experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible and dynamic
global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom
as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical
to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding and
International collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to USA under a program titled
EdTerra’s East Coast Space Adventure. We chose this program for its focus on exposing
students to space exploration and technology at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. They
also visited natural and modern marvels of Niagara Falls and New York City. To augment
the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’

and exploratory module that our students partook in. It captures the entire journey in the
students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from the intense,
ten day journey to one of the world’s most successful democratic nations.
I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a company that is well
aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We
acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educator, the Journey
Mentor and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism has resulted in an effortless,
safe and enriching travel experience for each one of us and for the group. Each parent may
feel proud of this publication that will keep reminding their daughters and sons of their
achievement and capabilities, all life long. Happy reading!

As part of yet another edutainment enterprise undertaken by LVIS, Noida, 39, students and
3 teachers, led by me as Team In-charge travelled to the East Coast of USA on a 10-day
educational trip organized by EdTerra Edventures. The trip, aimed to develop values such
as self discovery through exploration of the outside world, and team building along with
self-empowerment provided an opportunity to students to engage in a plethora of exciting
activities that showcased the best of USA. While the focus of the journey was space
exploration at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre, from visiting the most spectacular highlights
of the country to getting an insight into the culture of the land, it was a wholesome learning
for all. Furthermore, the students had the opportunity of documenting their journey in the
form of this Student Travel Chronicle, wherein their adventure and exploration have been
beautifully expressed by the students themselves. This allows them to retain memories as
well as realize self development goals.
I would also take this opportunity to thank EdTerra Edventures, the company that conducted
this journey, for their professional services, pre, on and post journey. I also thank the school
management and our esteemed Principal for the wonderful opportunities they consistently
extend to the LVIS community, and we look forward to many more such chances that allow
our students the necessary exposure to the global community that they must one day
assume their rightful role in.

A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and
inquisitive mind. When the destination is as rich as the East Coast of USA, one can only
imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of
the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these two great
nations.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement
or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The
PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe,
record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that
encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital
media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and
learning of the students. This Student Travel Chronicle, ‘East Coast Space Adventure’, is one
such media product that captures the ten day journey of learning of the gifted students of
Lotus Valley International School, Noida, to Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando along with New
York City and Niagara Falls. This beautiful book serves as a window into the U.S. and above
all the amazing world of NASA for those students, peers and parents who could not be a part
of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, credit
for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Lotus Valley International School, Noida, for their
efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a special mention
of the Principal, Dr. Ruchi Seth, for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing and
undertaking the journey. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying teachers for
their sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their energy made
our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students.
We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students
through the words and photographs that follow.

OUR
JOURNEY
OUR JOURNEY
Travelling to a new country without our parents meant that we had
a lot of responsibilities on us. The flight was very tiring yet we were
excited for our journey ahead. On our first day in Orlando, we went
shopping to Walmart. The next 2 days, we visited Kennedy Space
Centre which was a wonderful experience as we got to know about
the different projects of NASA and how different life was in space.
We also had lunch with an astronaut and he shared with us his
experience in space.
In Disney’s Magic Kingdom, we had a great time on rides and
also met cool Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie
Mouse and Peter Pan in the magical Disney Parade. We also
visited Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Adventureland. The
fireworks show was a treat to watch and was no less than magic.
We spent the next two days at SeaWorld and Universal Studio’s.
In SeaWorld, Manta and Mako were our favourite rides. Universal
Studios was another thrilling experience for all of us. The Hulk
roller coaster was the scariest of all. But we’ll have to admit that
these amusement park experiences taught us how to be patient.
We also went to Florida Mall where all of us indulged ourselves in
some shopping.
The next leg of our journey took us to Niagara Falls. We had never
seen something so beautiful. The ferry “Maid of the Mist” took us
real close to the Falls. It was magical scenery and seemed like
heaven on earth.
After a drive of about 7 to 8 hours, all of us were extremely
exhausted yet excited to visit New York City. It was a city full of life.
We enjoyed visiting One World Observatory, which was one of the
tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. We also visited the
9/11 Memorial which was was constructed in honour of those who
lost their lives in the terrorist attack. It was a very heartbreaking
and emotional experience. Later we headed towards Times Square.
It was a very crowded place and we were surrounded by flashy
billboards and lights. On the last day of our trip we went to the
Statue of Liberty where we were amazed to learn that the statue
was originally made of copper but had oxidised and turned green
over time. Post this, we went to Madame Tussaud’s, where we saw
and clicked pictures with wax statues of our favourite celebrities.
New York was indeed the highlight of our trip.
We were deeply saddened as we realised that the trip had come to
an end but at the same time we were happy to go back home and
meet our families. This trip was a memorable and knowledgeable
experience for each one of us. We made some amazing new
friends and enjoyed making memories that we will cherish forever.

“Life exists throughout the cosmos and is a consequence of
matter in the Universe.”- Paul Stamets
Entering the NASA Complex, in spite of the unforgiving sun, we
were all eagerly waiting to see the precious treasures of the most
hostile but enticing environment known to man. The small steps
we took were like little giant leaps for mankind. To infinity and
beyond!! We lifted off the ground, fittingly starting through the
Rocket Garden. It is a garden with no trees and flowers but instead
filled with mighty space shuttles and rockets with information
regarding their missions, specifications and structure on display.
Moving forward we went on a tour around NASA, discovering its
secrets. We learned that there were approximately 5000-6000
alligators in the complex, frightening many of us due to their
size and sheer number. The different launch pads mesmerized
us completely, making us believe in the dream of finding
extraterrestrial life.
After seeing all the attractions, we ended at Saturn V Centre, a
whole centre dedicated to the most powerful rocket ever built. We
were amazed to learn about the hardships faced by the engineers
at NASA and the role of politics in space exploration. Had there
been no politics, we could have reached Mars by now, not just
the moon! At the end of the day we filled our goody bags with
souvenirs from the NASA gift shop.
The next day we went on to see the Hall of Heroes and Legends,
getting inspiration from previous brave and daring astronauts. We
left with a sense of respect for all those who ventured into the
unknown. We also met Winston E. Scott, a retired Navy Pilot, who
went twice into space, as he gave a grand entrance while we filled
up on the delicious food offered. Some got a chance to ask him
questions regarding his experience in space and in the Navy.
After clicking a group photo with him we departed for a movie. The
movie began with a mind-blowing introductory sequence leaving
the audience filled with curiosity. The movie was narrated by none
other than Jennifer Lawrence. We learned about the hardships
and challenges faced by an astronaut and how they survive in
space. The movie was so capturing that everyone was clapping
and cheering. We also learned about the training one has to do
to become an astronaut. When the movie ended, we knew we
had learned a lot. These are the type of movies that young future
leaders need to watch. It was truly an enriching experience.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed spacewalking and souvenir shopping
but the highlight was the Astronaut Training Simulator with Shuttle
Launch Experience what an astronaut experiences during launch.

DISNEY CHARACTERS’ PARADE: THE LIGHT SHOW
The whole ambience of Magic Kingdom turned mystical
as the flamboyant characters came alive in a parade. The
whole world seemed to bow down with enchantment and
admiration as the parade passed through their midst. These
moments were captured in videos, which will never be erased
from memory.
The next attraction was the light show that began at 9.15
pm and created stories on the castle. The castle was lit up
and many stories retold with light and fireworks. The show
mesmerised with each one yearning for more. Everyone
heaved a big sigh of grief as the show ended but felt on top of
the world at having witnessed the grand show.
AMUSEMENT
PARKS
AMUSEMENT PARKS
Amusement parks are the one place where one completely forgets
one self and faces their worst fears like roller coasters, water
rides and heights at which one would have never imagined to be,
supported by hanging rubber tubes and small wheels. Orlando is
known as the city of amusement parks. This country side city is
filled with one of the craziest parks filled with rides that are beyond
imagination.
Our journey in this vast land of adventure began at Disney World
where we visited Magic Kingdom. The place is filled with dazzling
structures and rides. “Disney’s Adventure will continue to grow as
long as imagination still exists in the world and as long as people
still believe in their dreams and work to complete them...” says
Priyal Jain, one of the adventurers. We enjoyed visiting the world
renowned and famous Disney Castle.
On the second day of our adventure we visited SeaWorld, a place
we didn’t expect to be as exciting as the others. The place had one
of the best roller coasters. The water ride was the most surprising.
“Life is short and taking risks is a part of it, and as far as SeaWorld
is concerned, it is one place that gives one the chance to take risk,
not only with one self but with one’s fears. It hosts the best penguin
shows in the world, and has the most amazing environment for
them.” says Sabhye Gupta, the one who loves taking risks.
The never-ending adventure ended, post the third day when we
exited Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Housing the famous and
exciting Hulk coaster, it also gives one experiences one wouldn’t
be able to find elsewhere. The land was divided into the most
amazing creative segment. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
was the best one ever, followed by a visit to The Forbidden Castle.
“The island is like no other and the experience, one like never
before” says Shreya Wariko, the one who loves to try new things.
At the very end, we somewhat realised that one must live everyday
like it’s your last day and one must enjoy the day to the fullest.

NIAGARA FALLS
NIAGARA FALLS
It all began with us being woken up by the loud thumping noise on
our door at 2:30 am. It was our teacher trying to wake us up for our
flight to Buffalo. We resisted but the sound wouldn’t stop. Finally,
we gave in and woke up. After getting a brown packet containing
juice, pie and chocolate as breakfast, we departed. The flight
was two and a half hours long but felt much shorter due to the
abundance of sleeping students. With only 5 hours of sleep, our
journey to the biggest world’s second waterfall began.
Niagara Falls was truly a sight we had never seen before. The
facts and numbers don’t do it justice in the slightest. The water of
five Great Lakes, Ontario, Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie falling
from a height of 167 feet, creating a magnificent view and also
marking the international boundary between USA and Canada. All
of this seen from a height of 282 feet was truly awe-inspiring. It
finally empties out into Lake Ontario.
After standing in a queue for 25 minutes, we went into a high-
speed elevator to the surface and walked to a ferry for the ‘Maid of
the Mist’ tour. We were given the iconic blue poncho with ‘Maid of
the Mist’ written on it. Vibrations rattled our shoes as the engine
revved up; the cold wind full of moisture was flowing with purpose.
As we edged near to the Falls, we were bombarded with cold,
refreshing water droplets. A ferry from the Canadian side moved
with us, all passengers waving at us and we waved back.
Water fell with force creating a soothing sound of nature. We
would’ve been drenched if it weren’t for the ponchos. We began
clicking photos and admired the astonishing sight. Moving
further forward, we came stunningly close to the Falls. Covered by
waterfalls on three sides, we were having the time of our lives and
battling to protect our eyes from the forceful attack of the water
droplets. At this point we knew that the wait had been worth it.
The water began moving violently due to the ripples caused by the
falling water. This was the first instance of any kind of turbulence
experienced. Squinting our eyes, was the only way to defend
ourselves. The sound became louder by the second, almost
thunder-like. May be it was the sound made by Heno, the Thunder
God and the Maid of the Mist does truly live behind the falls. It
made us wonder, what lies behind the curtain of water? We shall
never know. But we hope that one day we find out. May be the
Maid of the Mist will come back once again to warn the people of
impending disaster. We sure can hope.
As the boat began turning back, we saw another ferry following the
path we went on. They would see, feel and hear the same things
we did but would have their own interpretation and maybe share
it with others too. Maybe they’ll see something we didn’t. Did they
find her? Were they able to find an opening to peak beyond the
curtain? We shall never know. But we have faith that the Maid of
the Mist will indeed return once more.

NEW YORK CITY
NEW YORK CITY
Our journey to the Big Apple began with a 90 minute long bus
ride from our hotel to Manhattan. As we entered the famous city,
we were amazed by the sheer amount of buildings built in an
organised, grid-like pattern. The contrast between upper and lower
Manhattan was quite astonishing.
We learnt about the three bridges that connect Brooklyn and
Manhattan – Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg
Bridge. We toured the downtown neighbourhoods and saw the
places of birth of things like Punk Rock. We also learnt a great
deal about the history of the region.
Next, we visited the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, the
Freedom Tower. With a height of 541 metres and 104 floors above
the ground, the observatory gave us a 360° aerial view of New York
City. Words can’t describe the views. We will let the pictures do the
talking. When we saw the memorial of 9/11 attacks, it was truly
an emotional sight. It showed us the dark side of this prosperous
world.
The beauty of Times Square is beyond what any of us had
imagined. The lights, billboards, street performers and the artists
all contribute in making Times Square a great place. As you see in
the pictures, we all had a great time.
The following day, we went to the Statue of Liberty and the famous
gift given by France was a sight to behold. We took a ferry to the
island. We took quite a few photos around the statue.
In the famous wax museum of Madame Tussauds we saw many
figurines such as the Royal Family, movie stars, Presidents like
Obama and Trump. We didn’t have much time there as we had a
flight to catch but we managed to make the most out of it.
The tour of New York was an experience we all truly enjoyed. The
city of New York is very different as compared to the rest of the
United States. It is the only place we visited that was filled with
only skyscrapers. It really showed us how far technology has
come and what we as human beings are capable of building. It
is truly an inspiring city and inspired us all to follow our dreams.

amazing journey. We mainly covered
Orlando, Buffalo and New York and
also visited some magnificent places
like Disney World, Niagara Falls
and Freedom Tower. Though I am a
commerce student, I opted to go to
the East Coast adventure to quench
my thirst for scientific knowledge and
also learn about the new discoveries
and inventions in the field of science.
New York was an electrifying place
which could not be compared to
anywhere else. My overall impression
of USA is great.
Hey! I am Leisha Singh and I study in
Class 8. Huge thanks to EdTerra for
giving me this wonderful opportunity
to witness the beauty of USA. On this
trip, education and adventure were in
a perfect ratio. This trip was extremely
good for a person like me who is
fascinated by science, nature and
adventure. I greatly enjoyed Universal
Studios’ Islands of Adventure, Niagara
Falls and New York. This journey
helped me to expand my horizon. We
did not only visit places but also learnt
a lot about USA and its culture. These
words encapsulate all my memories
of days spent in USA. Creating this
gave me joy. I hope you enjoy reading
it too.

Hey! I am Mehar Kaur. I like playing
badminton and listening to music. Our
trip to USA was a very knowledgeable
experience and we all shared some
amazing time with our friends that
will be remembered throughout
our lifetime. My favourite moment
was Times Square. It was like a
dream come true. I could have never
imagined that I would have such an
amazing time. Our teachers were very
supportive and loving throughout the
journey. Though I am a commerce
student, I opted to go for this trip
because of my general interest in
space and to fulfil my wish of visiting
the Big Apple. We visited many places
like Universal Studios, Disney World,
SeaWorld and Niagara Falls. This trip
was a memorable experience.
Hey! I am Nehal Bhargava studying
in Class 8. I was very curious to learn
the culture and traditions of USA. I
was stunned to see the punctuality
and discipline ingrained in the local
people. It felt nice as we interacted
and shared our experience with the
people of America. For me the NASA
trip was the best, as I always had a
soft corner for science and space.
I also got the opportunity to spend
some time with some of the intelligent
people at NASA. The main reason
that I opted to go to the trip was that I
would be able to visit Disney’s Magic
Kingdom. It was my dream to visit it
since I was 5. Creating this piece gave
me joy. Have an enjoyable read.
Hey! I am Nischay Agarwal. I am 13

articles. I am a good leader. I am quite
fond of mathematics. I want to be an
engineer when I grow up and want to
become a rich person. I loved visiting
the Florida Mall, Universal Studios
and Niagara Falls the most. This was
my first school trip and I am very
happy. My overall impression of USA
is great.

I am Parth Mansukh, a 13 year old
from New Delhi, studying in Lotus

Why should reading be limited to
school textbooks? Hey! I am Pragya
Bhattacharya of Grade 11. Our trip to
USA East Coast was a blast. For me,
I think the best part of the trip was
lunch with the astronaut and spending
quality and fun time at Times Square.
We went to Buffalo-Niagara and saw
the Niagara Falls and we also went to
New York City and saw the Statue of
Liberty, Times Square and Freedom
Tower. This journey from school
was my first trip abroad and I must
say that travelling with my friends,
teachers and EdTerra Edventures was
an amazing experience.

Whatever I am writing is not enough
to encompass my experiences on this
journey. I am the first one from my
family to visit USA and everyone in my
family was very excited and so was I.
From the very first day I made new
friends, whether they were seniors or
juniors. I was most worried about the
15 hour flight and how the time would
pass but believe me it felt like 15
minutes. I was very bored for first few
days at ‘NASA’, but after that we were
unstoppable. I’m sure our teachers
must be very tired after taking such
good care of us throughout the
journey. Hats off to all of them but I
will miss all of you, especially Aarushi
Ma’am.

The scenic beauty of Niagara Falls

and beautiful. It has always been my

mesmerizing. We all made some
beautiful memories. New York was
awesome. The variety of clothes and

were far away from our family. Riding
the roller coasters was a terrifying
and amazing experience for me. Every
day we learned something new and
enjoyed experiencing new things.
Like every beautiful thing comes to
an end this trip also came to an end.

Hey! I am Sambhav Soni of Class 11.
There is a lot for me to say about this
trip. It has been a beautiful, tiring and
extraordinary journey. I can surely
say that my favourite moment of the
entire trip was when our bus broke
down. Some teachers were dancing
with students while some of us went
to explore a near by area and came
across a comic book store, which
was my favourite part of the journey.
Other incredible moments include
all rides as well as the memorable
nights where we danced, sang and
played cards. This has been a learning
experience for me. If I ever return to
USA, I would be well aware about its
various rules, customs and culture, all
thanks to EdTerra.

My name is Shaurya Verma and I am
a student of Lotus Valley International

and fun. Going to NASA was a great
experience but Disney World and
Universal Studios was amazing. The
thing I loved the most was New York
City. The Big Apple was just like the
movies, absolutely amazing. When
you see the skyscrapers at night, it
just felt right. This trip will be with
me forever because I really enjoyed
talking and interacting with my
schoolmates and others. In short, the
trip was epic.

I am Sparsh Agrawal of Class 8. This
trip was filled with brilliant colours of
United States of America. I enjoyed a
lot and loved the trip. For me, the best
moments were the amusement parks.
Mind blowing rides gave us thrills
like never before. NASA was also
very good. I was very curious about
how astronauts survive in space and
during our lunch with an astronaut we
cleared many of our doubts regarding
space and astronauts. I am hoping for
more trips like this. At last, I will thank
my teachers for giving us support
and taking care of us throughout the
journey.

Hi everyone! I am Sanil Mittal. I am
in Class 11, pursuing science stream
and this journey fulfilled my dream
of visiting Kennedy Space Centre. In
addition the various other attractions
were also special and I greatly enjoyed
the trip. I am a National level fencer,
having represented Delhi in various
national competitions, even in senior
category and having stood first in
Delhi state in under-20 category. I also
like to read books, paint and sketch in
my free time. In the end, I would just
like to say that if I ever get a chance
to go back and relive this trip all over
again, I would. Have an enjoyable read
of our experiences and the highlights
of the trip.

Hi! My name is Vansh Jain and I am
one of the travellers on the East Coast
adventure to the United States of
America. This trip has been one of the
most wonderful trips I have been on
so far. Moreover, the trip in my opinion
was one of the most well planned
trips organised by the school. This
has been a great learning experience
for me. My overall impression of USA
is amazing. I am very happy. Overall, it
was a mesmerizing experience.

Hey! I am Vanshika Kakkar. I enjoy
swimming. Our journey across USA
was a nice experience as it was
a perfect blend of education and
adventure. We visited Orlando, New
York and Niagara Falls. The weather
was mainly hot in Orlando. But it was
a bit cold in New York and Niagara
and if you are planning to visit these
places do carry a jacket with you. Our
visit to Kennedy Space Centre was
also fun and I enjoyed it even though
I don’t enjoy studying science much.
The trip to US was really fun as I learnt
to be more disciplined and punctual.
At last I would like to thank everyone
who made my trip really nice and
enjoyable.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
Writing ‘Awesome’ would not have
conveyed the super excitement and
joy that I experienced on this trip. Hi! I
am Vridhi Manchanda from New Delhi.
Although it was my third visit to USA,
my previous two were with parents,
so undoubtedly it was the best. It all
started with arriving at Orlando, where
we visited Disney World, Universal
Studios and SeaWorld, which were
fun as always. But the real star of
the show was NASA, also known as
Kennedy Space Center. It was a mixed
bag of education and entertainment.
In these few days, I have made
memories that will stay with me
forever and will always bring a smile
on my face whenever I will think of
them. Thanks to team EdTerra for
making for making this happen.

Being a school psychologist, I find
myself constantly learning and
unlearning the various facets of
child psychology. The NASA Space
Adventure was another experience
that has left a mark in the map of
my life journey. The trip made me
experience liberation and limitations
at the same time. Being the youngest
facilitator, I learnt an array of skills
of driving and leading a group, yet at
the same time I felt the child in me
coming alive. It made me understand
that just like this journey, our life is
also about many shades of grey, it is
about letting go of your preconceived
notions, it is about being flexible
because only when you do that can
you absorb the essence of a trip like
this to the fullest.

My name is Sonal Yadav and I am
a Social Science teacher. I have a
passion for shaping young minds. My
interest is reading biographies and
historybooks.ThisjourneytoUSAwas
another milestone for me to fulfil my
passion to explore new places. I really
enjoyed my stay in Orlando, viewing
its picturesque green meadows,
something very different to the life we
miss in hustle bustle of our day-to-day
city life. Being so close to “The Maid
of the Mist” made me appreciate the
gift of nature and visiting New York
City, rightly said the megacity of the
world; it was something everyone
should experience once in their
lifetime. Along with a recreational
trip, we learnt and experienced about
different cultures that prevail on our
very own earth.

Rachna Marwah
Travelling always opens up new
doors, there’s always a chance to
witness a world different from your
own. I am Rachna Marwah. I teach
English at Lotus Valley. Well!! This
journey to the Western World is my
first, and I felt like Alice transported
to Wonderland. The trip has given
me a chance to make long lasting
memories that have immortalized the
adventures, the different monuments
and structures, and the innumerable
anecdotes at strategic places of USA.
I have always been a non-science
student yet the cosmos aroused my
curiosity at NASA and the two days
there were well spent in exploring
the mysteries of the outer space and
takingapeekintothelivesofproficient
astronauts. Then Disney World -- the
Magic Kingdom, in all its splendour,
was alluring. I was wonderstruck by
the colossal structure, the parade
as well as the lightshow. Equally
spell binding was SeaWorld and
Universal Studios. Niagara Falls
is a spectacularly striking sight,
Freedom Tower is awe-inspiring,
memorial of 9/11 is impressive and
magnificent. Each place seemed to
speak out its history. I have created a
kaleidoscope of a colourful repertoire
of memories intertwined beautifully
and everlasting.

  • 5. AtLotusValleyInternationalSchool,Noida, webelievethatthereisnosubstitutefor‘Education Through Action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding and International collaboration. In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to USA under a program titled EdTerra’s East Coast Space Adventure. We chose this program for its focus on exposing students to space exploration and technology at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. They also visited natural and modern marvels of Niagara Falls and New York City. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagementandimmersion.ThisStudentTravelChronicleisanoutcomeofthiscollaborative and exploratory module that our students partook in. It captures the entire journey in the students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from the intense, ten day journey to one of the world’s most successful democratic nations. I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educator, the Journey Mentor and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism has resulted in an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience for each one of us and for the group. Each parent may feel proud of this publication that will keep reminding their daughters and sons of their achievement and capabilities, all life long. Happy reading! Sincerely, Dr. Ruchi Seth Principal Lotus Valley International School, Noida Dear Reader, FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Dr. Ruchi Seth Principal

  • 7. “The best journey we undertake is when we travel inwards, and observe, not just new landscapes, but old landscapes with new eyes.” – Danny Kaye As part of yet another edutainment enterprise undertaken by LVIS, Noida, 39, students and 3 teachers, led by me as Team In-charge travelled to the East Coast of USA on a 10-day educational trip organized by EdTerra Edventures. The trip, aimed to develop values such as self discovery through exploration of the outside world, and team building along with self-empowerment provided an opportunity to students to engage in a plethora of exciting activities that showcased the best of USA. While the focus of the journey was space exploration at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre, from visiting the most spectacular highlights of the country to getting an insight into the culture of the land, it was a wholesome learning for all. Furthermore, the students had the opportunity of documenting their journey in the form of this Student Travel Chronicle, wherein their adventure and exploration have been beautifully expressed by the students themselves. This allows them to retain memories as well as realize self development goals. I would also take this opportunity to thank EdTerra Edventures, the company that conducted this journey, for their professional services, pre, on and post journey. I also thank the school management and our esteemed Principal for the wonderful opportunities they consistently extend to the LVIS community, and we look forward to many more such chances that allow our students the necessary exposure to the global community that they must one day assume their rightful role in. Sincerely, Mrs. Jyoti Gupta In-charge(VII-VIII) & International Programmes Coordinator Dear Reader, FROM THE COORDINATOR Mrs. Jyoti Gupta

  • 9. TM A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and inquisitive mind. When the destination is as rich as the East Coast of USA, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these two great nations. For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe, record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students. This Student Travel Chronicle, ‘East Coast Space Adventure’, is one such media product that captures the ten day journey of learning of the gifted students of Lotus Valley International School, Noida, to Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando along with New York City and Niagara Falls. This beautiful book serves as a window into the U.S. and above all the amazing world of NASA for those students, peers and parents who could not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school. EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Lotus Valley International School, Noida, for their efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a special mention of the Principal, Dr. Ruchi Seth, for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing and undertaking the journey. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying teachers for their sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their energy made our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the words and photographs that follow. Sincerely, Christine Massey Sr. Manager, Program Development Team Dear Reader, MESSAGE FROM EDTERRA Christine Massey Sr. Manager Program Development Team

  • 14. OUR JOURNEY Travelling to a new country without our parents meant that we had a lot of responsibilities on us. The flight was very tiring yet we were excited for our journey ahead. On our first day in Orlando, we went shopping to Walmart. The next 2 days, we visited Kennedy Space Centre which was a wonderful experience as we got to know about the different projects of NASA and how different life was in space. We also had lunch with an astronaut and he shared with us his experience in space. In Disney’s Magic Kingdom, we had a great time on rides and also met cool Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Peter Pan in the magical Disney Parade. We also visited Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Adventureland. The fireworks show was a treat to watch and was no less than magic. We spent the next two days at SeaWorld and Universal Studio’s. In SeaWorld, Manta and Mako were our favourite rides. Universal Studios was another thrilling experience for all of us. The Hulk roller coaster was the scariest of all. But we’ll have to admit that these amusement park experiences taught us how to be patient. We also went to Florida Mall where all of us indulged ourselves in some shopping. The next leg of our journey took us to Niagara Falls. We had never seen something so beautiful. The ferry “Maid of the Mist” took us real close to the Falls. It was magical scenery and seemed like heaven on earth. After a drive of about 7 to 8 hours, all of us were extremely exhausted yet excited to visit New York City. It was a city full of life. We enjoyed visiting One World Observatory, which was one of the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. We also visited the 9/11 Memorial which was was constructed in honour of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack. It was a very heartbreaking and emotional experience. Later we headed towards Times Square. It was a very crowded place and we were surrounded by flashy billboards and lights. On the last day of our trip we went to the Statue of Liberty where we were amazed to learn that the statue was originally made of copper but had oxidised and turned green over time. Post this, we went to Madame Tussaud’s, where we saw and clicked pictures with wax statues of our favourite celebrities. New York was indeed the highlight of our trip. We were deeply saddened as we realised that the trip had come to an end but at the same time we were happy to go back home and meet our families. This trip was a memorable and knowledgeable experience for each one of us. We made some amazing new friends and enjoyed making memories that we will cherish forever. • 22. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER “Life exists throughout the cosmos and is a consequence of matter in the Universe.”- Paul Stamets Entering the NASA Complex, in spite of the unforgiving sun, we were all eagerly waiting to see the precious treasures of the most hostile but enticing environment known to man. The small steps we took were like little giant leaps for mankind. To infinity and beyond!! We lifted off the ground, fittingly starting through the Rocket Garden. It is a garden with no trees and flowers but instead filled with mighty space shuttles and rockets with information regarding their missions, specifications and structure on display. Moving forward we went on a tour around NASA, discovering its secrets. We learned that there were approximately 5000-6000 alligators in the complex, frightening many of us due to their size and sheer number. The different launch pads mesmerized us completely, making us believe in the dream of finding extraterrestrial life. After seeing all the attractions, we ended at Saturn V Centre, a whole centre dedicated to the most powerful rocket ever built. We were amazed to learn about the hardships faced by the engineers at NASA and the role of politics in space exploration. Had there been no politics, we could have reached Mars by now, not just the moon! At the end of the day we filled our goody bags with souvenirs from the NASA gift shop. The next day we went on to see the Hall of Heroes and Legends, getting inspiration from previous brave and daring astronauts. We left with a sense of respect for all those who ventured into the unknown. We also met Winston E. Scott, a retired Navy Pilot, who went twice into space, as he gave a grand entrance while we filled up on the delicious food offered. Some got a chance to ask him questions regarding his experience in space and in the Navy. After clicking a group photo with him we departed for a movie. The movie began with a mind-blowing introductory sequence leaving the audience filled with curiosity. The movie was narrated by none other than Jennifer Lawrence. We learned about the hardships and challenges faced by an astronaut and how they survive in space. The movie was so capturing that everyone was clapping and cheering. We also learned about the training one has to do to become an astronaut. When the movie ended, we knew we had learned a lot. These are the type of movies that young future leaders need to watch. It was truly an enriching experience. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed spacewalking and souvenir shopping but the highlight was the Astronaut Training Simulator with Shuttle Launch Experience what an astronaut experiences during launch. • 28. DISNEY CHARACTERS’ PARADE: THE LIGHT SHOW The whole ambience of Magic Kingdom turned mystical as the flamboyant characters came alive in a parade. The whole world seemed to bow down with enchantment and admiration as the parade passed through their midst. These moments were captured in videos, which will never be erased from memory. The next attraction was the light show that began at 9.15 pm and created stories on the castle. The castle was lit up and many stories retold with light and fireworks. The show mesmerised with each one yearning for more. Everyone heaved a big sigh of grief as the show ended but felt on top of the world at having witnessed the grand show.
  • 30. AMUSEMENT PARKS Amusement parks are the one place where one completely forgets one self and faces their worst fears like roller coasters, water rides and heights at which one would have never imagined to be, supported by hanging rubber tubes and small wheels. Orlando is known as the city of amusement parks. This country side city is filled with one of the craziest parks filled with rides that are beyond imagination. Our journey in this vast land of adventure began at Disney World where we visited Magic Kingdom. The place is filled with dazzling structures and rides. “Disney’s Adventure will continue to grow as long as imagination still exists in the world and as long as people still believe in their dreams and work to complete them...” says Priyal Jain, one of the adventurers. We enjoyed visiting the world renowned and famous Disney Castle. On the second day of our adventure we visited SeaWorld, a place we didn’t expect to be as exciting as the others. The place had one of the best roller coasters. The water ride was the most surprising. “Life is short and taking risks is a part of it, and as far as SeaWorld is concerned, it is one place that gives one the chance to take risk, not only with one self but with one’s fears. It hosts the best penguin shows in the world, and has the most amazing environment for them.” says Sabhye Gupta, the one who loves taking risks. The never-ending adventure ended, post the third day when we exited Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Housing the famous and exciting Hulk coaster, it also gives one experiences one wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere. The land was divided into the most amazing creative segment. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was the best one ever, followed by a visit to The Forbidden Castle. “The island is like no other and the experience, one like never before” says Shreya Wariko, the one who loves to try new things. At the very end, we somewhat realised that one must live everyday like it’s your last day and one must enjoy the day to the fullest. • 38. NIAGARA FALLS It all began with us being woken up by the loud thumping noise on our door at 2:30 am. It was our teacher trying to wake us up for our flight to Buffalo. We resisted but the sound wouldn’t stop. Finally, we gave in and woke up. After getting a brown packet containing juice, pie and chocolate as breakfast, we departed. The flight was two and a half hours long but felt much shorter due to the abundance of sleeping students. With only 5 hours of sleep, our journey to the biggest world’s second waterfall began. Niagara Falls was truly a sight we had never seen before. The facts and numbers don’t do it justice in the slightest. The water of five Great Lakes, Ontario, Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie falling from a height of 167 feet, creating a magnificent view and also marking the international boundary between USA and Canada. All of this seen from a height of 282 feet was truly awe-inspiring. It finally empties out into Lake Ontario. After standing in a queue for 25 minutes, we went into a high- speed elevator to the surface and walked to a ferry for the ‘Maid of the Mist’ tour. We were given the iconic blue poncho with ‘Maid of the Mist’ written on it. Vibrations rattled our shoes as the engine revved up; the cold wind full of moisture was flowing with purpose. As we edged near to the Falls, we were bombarded with cold, refreshing water droplets. A ferry from the Canadian side moved with us, all passengers waving at us and we waved back. Water fell with force creating a soothing sound of nature. We would’ve been drenched if it weren’t for the ponchos. We began clicking photos and admired the astonishing sight. Moving further forward, we came stunningly close to the Falls. Covered by waterfalls on three sides, we were having the time of our lives and battling to protect our eyes from the forceful attack of the water droplets. At this point we knew that the wait had been worth it. The water began moving violently due to the ripples caused by the falling water. This was the first instance of any kind of turbulence experienced. Squinting our eyes, was the only way to defend ourselves. The sound became louder by the second, almost thunder-like. May be it was the sound made by Heno, the Thunder God and the Maid of the Mist does truly live behind the falls. It made us wonder, what lies behind the curtain of water? We shall never know. But we hope that one day we find out. May be the Maid of the Mist will come back once again to warn the people of impending disaster. We sure can hope. As the boat began turning back, we saw another ferry following the path we went on. They would see, feel and hear the same things we did but would have their own interpretation and maybe share it with others too. Maybe they’ll see something we didn’t. Did they find her? Were they able to find an opening to peak beyond the curtain? We shall never know. But we have faith that the Maid of the Mist will indeed return once more. • 46. NEW YORK CITY Our journey to the Big Apple began with a 90 minute long bus ride from our hotel to Manhattan. As we entered the famous city, we were amazed by the sheer amount of buildings built in an organised, grid-like pattern. The contrast between upper and lower Manhattan was quite astonishing. We learnt about the three bridges that connect Brooklyn and Manhattan – Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge. We toured the downtown neighbourhoods and saw the places of birth of things like Punk Rock. We also learnt a great deal about the history of the region. Next, we visited the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, the Freedom Tower. With a height of 541 metres and 104 floors above the ground, the observatory gave us a 360° aerial view of New York City. Words can’t describe the views. We will let the pictures do the talking. When we saw the memorial of 9/11 attacks, it was truly an emotional sight. It showed us the dark side of this prosperous world. The beauty of Times Square is beyond what any of us had imagined. The lights, billboards, street performers and the artists all contribute in making Times Square a great place. As you see in the pictures, we all had a great time. The following day, we went to the Statue of Liberty and the famous gift given by France was a sight to behold. We took a ferry to the island. We took quite a few photos around the statue. In the famous wax museum of Madame Tussauds we saw many figurines such as the Royal Family, movie stars, Presidents like Obama and Trump. We didn’t have much time there as we had a flight to catch but we managed to make the most out of it. The tour of New York was an experience we all truly enjoyed. The city of New York is very different as compared to the rest of the United States. It is the only place we visited that was filled with only skyscrapers. It really showed us how far technology has come and what we as human beings are capable of building. It is truly an inspiring city and inspired us all to follow our dreams. But it was a bit cold in New York and Niagara and if you are planning to visit these places do carry a jacket with you. Our visit to Kennedy Space Centre was also fun and I enjoyed it even though I don’t enjoy studying science much. The trip to US was really fun as I learnt to be more disciplined and punctual. Although it was my third visit to USA, my previous two were with parents, so undoubtedly it was the best. It all started with arriving at Orlando, where we visited Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld, which were fun as always. Thanks to team EdTerra for making for making this happen. Vanshika Kakkar Vridhi Manchanda
  • 71. 71 Being a school psychologist, I find myself constantly learning and unlearning the various facets of child psychology. The NASA Space Adventure was another experience that has left a mark in the map of my life journey. The trip made me experience liberation and limitations at the same time. Being the youngest facilitator, I learnt an array of skills of driving and leading a group, yet at the same time I felt the child in me coming alive. It made me understand that just like this journey, our life is also about many shades of grey, it is about letting go of your preconceived notions, it is about being flexible because only when you do that can you absorb the essence of a trip like this to the fullest. Arushi Bhatia My name is Sonal Yadav and I am a Social Science teacher. I have a passion for shaping young minds. My interest is reading biographies and historybooks.ThisjourneytoUSAwas another milestone for me to fulfil my passion to explore new places. I really enjoyed my stay in Orlando, viewing its picturesque green meadows, something very different to the life we miss in hustle bustle of our day-to-day city life. Being so close to “The Maid of the Mist” made me appreciate the gift of nature and visiting New York City, rightly said the megacity of the world; it was something everyone should experience once in their lifetime. Along with a recreational trip, we learnt and experienced about different cultures that prevail on our very own earth. Sonal Yadav
  • 72. Rachna Marwah Travelling always opens up new doors, there’s always a chance to witness a world different from your own. I am Rachna Marwah. I teach English at Lotus Valley. Well!! This journey to the Western World is my first, and I felt like Alice transported to Wonderland. The trip has given me a chance to make long lasting memories that have immortalized the adventures, the different monuments and structures, and the innumerable anecdotes at strategic places of USA. I have always been a non-science student yet the cosmos aroused my curiosity at NASA and the two days there were well spent in exploring the mysteries of the outer space and takingapeekintothelivesofproficient astronauts. Then Disney World -- the Magic Kingdom, in all its splendour, was alluring. I was wonderstruck by the colossal structure, the parade as well as the lightshow. Equally spell binding was SeaWorld and Universal Studios. Niagara Falls is a spectacularly striking sight, Freedom Tower is awe-inspiring, memorial of 9/11 is impressive and magnificent. Each place seemed to speak out its history. I have created a kaleidoscope of a colourful repertoire of memories intertwined beautifully and everlasting.
