FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
At Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad, we believe that there
is no substitute for ‘Education Through Action’ and that exploring people, places,
cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel,
complements and completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches
our endeavor to create responsible and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by
bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students
to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of
international success in the modern inter-connected world: empathy, understanding
and International collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Italy, Switzerland and France.
We chose this program for its focus on exposing students to the rich history of three of
the greatest European nations. They visited and explored a number of historic, natural
and architectural marvels in Rome, Venice, Vatican City, Paris, Zurich and Geneva. To
augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured
students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Chronicle is an outcome of
this collaborative and exploratory module that our students partook in along with the
students of Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood Village. It captures the
entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning
from the intense, nine day interaction with three of the world’s most successful nations.
I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a Truly Educational
School Trips company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals
and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff,
especially their on-journey educator, the Journey Mentor and Visa Assistance Services.
Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience for
each one of us and for the student group.
We appreciate the students, who participated and engaged with the program
enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits
of which they will reap all through their academic life and career.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mamta Wadhwa

A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and
inquisitive mind. When the destinations are as rich as countries such as Italy, Switzerland
and France, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and
construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and
people of these great European nations.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun and excitement
or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The
PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe,
record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that
encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital
media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and
learning of the students.
This publication, ‘Italy, Switzerland and France’, is one such media product that captures the
9 day journey of learning of the gifted students of Manav Rachna International School, Sector
14, Faridabad, along with the students of Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood
Village, Faridabad, in images and words. This beautiful book serves as a window into the
Italy, Switzerland and France, experience for those students, peers and parents who could
not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the
students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14,
Faridabad, for their efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible,
with a special mention to the Principal, Mrs. Mamta Wadhwa, for guiding us throughout the
process of finalizing our journey plans. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying
teachers, for the sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their
energy made our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for
the students. We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these
students through the words and photographs that follow.
Sincerely,
Christine Massey

OUR JOURNEY
(Manav Rachna International School, Sec - 14, Faridabad)
Written and photographed by: Digvijay, Jatin, Kritarth & Shorya
The journey begins at the airport where we all
had a great sensation of excitement in our hearts.
After travelling for approximately 8 hours, we
finally landed in Rome. We were all very hungry
and at the same time wanted to explore the city.
As scheduled, we were supposed to have fast
food for lunch and Indian food for dinner, but that
day it got swapped. We recharged our bodies and
headed towards the city for exploring. The first
place where we went was the “Trevi Fountain”.
We were fascinated by a fact that if we throw
a coin in the fountain from the right hand over
your left shoulder, it will ensure your return to
Rome in the future. The second day, we went to
Vatican City and visited the Vatican Museum. It
was really crowded inside the museum. We saw
great art pieces and learned a lot about the origin
and culture of Romans and Greeks.
For our next destination we stayed in ‘Mercure
Rome’, which turned out to be a really good hotel.
The next day, we checked out from the hotel and
headed towards Switzerland. We all were very
excited even though the journey was a little
bit tiring. Once we reached there, we headed
towards Mt. Titlis where the temperature was -1
degree Celsius. We had to take 3 rope ways to
reach the peak. It was very beautiful and really
awesome as there were many snow activities
like ice flyer, sledging and sky walk.
The next day, we travelled to Paris, the city of
lights and love. It took us 5 hours to reach Paris
by bus, but it was good because we enjoyed
the journey by singing songs and playing games.
We went to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower
and the view was so awesome that it can’t be
explained in words. The following day we went to
Disneyland. It was amazing and we had a lot of
fun on the rides.
A journey to Europe is a must.

When in Rome, do as Romans do! Rome, the first
stop of our journey, is a city situated in Italy with
wonderful art and architecture. The mesmerizing
view stole our hearts and the awesome weather
soothed our minds. The city left an impression of
itself on our souls as we left ours by leaving our
things behind, i.e., losing them.
We are all familiar with the grand Colosseum,
but when we saw this mighty structure in front
of us, we were left awestruck to see and know
things we had never known before. While the
Colosseum left us awestruck, the other places
of interest were amazing too. We loved the Trevi
Fountain and Spanish Steps. Soaking in the city
while we walked around was another beautiful
experience.
One of the best parts of the trip was our reaction
after seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Every
person who saw it said “Oh my god! It is actually
leaning!” and all the tourists stood in the exact
same pose for the photographs. At the streets
near the Leaning Tower of Pisa, we saw some
amazing artists, one of them being a violin player
whose music really touched our hearts and
soothed our minds and another one being a great
street artist whose paintings beautifully depicted
the expressions of the subject.
The best part of Italy was Venice. During the
Gondola ride we sang Retro-Bollywood songs,
which excited everyone around us. The most
humorous incident that happened was the street
pranks we did on the streets of Venice. We loved
Italy. We took a lot back and we hope we are
leaving a lot behind as well.

VATICAN CITY

Vatican City is an enclave in state of Rome. We
enjoyed visiting this beautiful city. The art and
architecture of the city was amazing. The city
was very clean. We saw geographical maps
and had lots of fun in the museum. We visited
St. Peter’s Basilica, where we saw paintings
depicting the life of Jesus. Vatican City was
amazing and if given an opportunity, we would
definitely go there again. In the Vatican Museum,
we saw ancient Roman sculptures such as the
famed statue of Laocoön and His Sons. Vatican
City is a city state surrounded by Rome while
Italy is the head quarters of the Roman Catholic
Church. It is home to the Pope and a trove of
iconic art and architecture.
After exploring for some time, it was time
for us to visit Sistine Chapel, which is located
within the Vatican Museum and beside St.
Peter’s Basilica. The Sisitine Chapel has precious
artwork, especially the ceiling of the chapel that
was painted by the famed Michelangelo. We were
impressed by the paintings we saw, and when
we came to know that Michelangelo was lying
on his back most of the time to do the painting,
we were amazed. It is a very calm and attractive
tourist spot. Thousands of visitors come to see
the famous monuments like St. Peter’s Basilica,
the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.
Vatican City is an artistic city that depicts its
ancient history in a simple yet beautiful and
elegant manner.
Our visit to Vatican City gave us a good insight
into the religion of Christianity. We enjoyed
viewing the sculptures and paintings and we
were very impressed with the order and respect
with which people observed everything there.

At a glance beyond the window pane of our
second home for the past 5 days, we knew that
we were in the city of love. The view was so
beautiful and mesmerizing, that it melted us into
the love of the city. Approximately over seven
million people visit Paris each day. There are so
many phenomenal things to see and do, that
you’ll never get bored. In the heart of the city,
the Eiffel Tower drowned us into its mesmerizing
beauty. We discovered the kids inside us, in the
interesting Disneyland. For a small fee, you can
ride the elevator of the Eiffel Tower to the top.
The view was absolutely spectacular. The best
time to visit the Eiffel Tower is at night when it
lights up. After clicking pictures we realized that
it is illegal to shoot it at night. When it lights up,
it looks like an attractive golden color, instead of
the dark brown color it is painted.
The Disneyland Park was filled with loads of
excitement and amusement. The best was the
‘Star Wars’ ride (roller coaster) which actually
made us feel like we were flying on the wings
of adrenaline. The next day we went on a city
tour where we, along with our guide went to the
historical monuments of France and gathered a
lot of information regarding France. It was indeed
a very interesting experience and it feels as if
France doesn’t want to leave us.

Switzerland, a mountainous central European
country, home to numerous lakes, villages and
the high peaks of the Swiss Alps looks beyond
the chocolate, cuckoo clocks and yodeling –
contemporary Switzerland, land of 4 languages
is all about once-in-a-lifetime journeys, heart
racing alpine pursuit and urban culture.
On our journey, we had 2 days to explore the
picturesque landscape of Switzerland – Zurich,
Engelberg and Lucerne. While travelling to
Zürich from Padova (Italy), we saw eye-catching
scenarios of nature beautified with a modern
touch. Zurich, the capital city is blessed with
amazing architecture and features reflecting its
pre-medieval history. On the second day, we had
a two hour drive to Engelberg where we went to
Mt Titlis by the means of cable cars. Everyone
was spellbound by the beautiful view of the sky
and the high mountains. Mt. Titlis was an amazing
adventurous experience for each one of us as we
reconnoitered through the area through various
activities such as cliff walk, snow toy ride, ice
flyer and glacier cave. We also bought souvenirs
to keep these beautiful memories fresh in our
hearts forever. Thereafter, we had a delicious
lunch in Trübsee and pushed off for Lucerne
wherein, we spread over the civic streets to
shop to our hearts content. Our day ended with a
palatable dinner at Chicco and we then prepared
for the next day to depart for Paris.

Hello! Namaste! Bonjour! My name is Aayushi Malik. I study in Class 8 of MRIS,
Charmwood. This was my first international trip. Team EdTerra planned an amazing
trip to Italy, Switzerland and France. It was a very unique and special experience for
me, as it was my first time on foreign soil. I love reading historical and adventurous
books and this trip was a perfect blend of these two elements. We all learned a lot
from this trip. The experience at Mt. Titlis was unforgettable and I loved it a lot. I
also liked visiting the glass making factory. It was very nice to see how things are
made. I would love to become a part of such trips in future. This trip taught me time
management, enjoying and living in the moment.
Hi! I am Damandeep Kaur Matharu. My experience in Europe was fabulous. I loved it. I
will never forget these nine days. We went to Switzerland. It was fantastic. I saw Mt.
Titlis and it was really icy and we enjoyed playing with snow. Then we went to France,
where we saw the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Arc de Triomphe. We also learned about
the history of the French Revolution. Afterwards we also visited Disneyland and Eiffel
Tower. In Disneyland, we rode many scary but adventurous rides. I loved the Star
Wars ride in Disneyland the most. I also loved visiting the Vatican City.

Hi! I am Purvi Gupta and I study in Class 5. EdTerra Edventures organized a trip to
Europe. So, when I asked my parents they agreed immediately and I was very excited
and happy. We travelled to Europe by Emirates Airlines and visited 3 countries i.e.
Italy, Switzerland and France. I enjoyed France the most, as we went to Disneyland
and Eiffel Tower in Paris. I loved travelling in Europe very much and hope to go on
future trips with EdTerra Edventures again.
Ritaj Munir
Salut! I am Ritaj Munir and I study in Class 9. I am a passionate shooter and I also
enjoy travelling. It was a dream of mine to visit Europe, especially France, the ‘City
of Light’. I was lucky enough that EdTerra Edventures planned this tour to Europe
for our school. This trip has been my best journey so far. All my travel mates were
quite friendly and I enjoyed exploring the cities in Italy, Switzerland and France. The
history of the monuments fascinated me and the European architecture skills were
quite amazing. I enjoyed interacting with the students travelling with us from another
school. This journey was unexpectedly enjoyable.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK At Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad, we believe that there is no substitute for ‘Education Through Action’ and that exploring people, places, cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavor to create responsible and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of international success in the modern inter-connected world: empathy, understanding and International collaboration. In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Italy, Switzerland and France. We chose this program for its focus on exposing students to the rich history of three of the greatest European nations. They visited and explored a number of historic, natural and architectural marvels in Rome, Venice, Vatican City, Paris, Zurich and Geneva. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Chronicle is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students partook in along with the students of Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood Village. It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from the intense, nine day interaction with three of the world’s most successful nations. I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a Truly Educational School Trips company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educator, the Journey Mentor and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience for each one of us and for the student group. We appreciate the students, who participated and engaged with the program enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits of which they will reap all through their academic life and career. Sincerely, Mrs. Mamta Wadhwa Principal Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad
  • 5. A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and inquisitive mind. When the destinations are as rich as countries such as Italy, Switzerland and France, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these great European nations. For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a meaningful encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe, record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students. This publication, ‘Italy, Switzerland and France’, is one such media product that captures the 9 day journey of learning of the gifted students of Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad, along with the students of Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood Village, Faridabad, in images and words. This beautiful book serves as a window into the Italy, Switzerland and France, experience for those students, peers and parents who could not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school. EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad, for their efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a special mention to the Principal, Mrs. Mamta Wadhwa, for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing our journey plans. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying teachers, for the sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their energy made our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the words and photographs that follow. Sincerely, Christine Massey Senior Manager, Program Development Team EdTerra Edventures LETTER FROM EDTERRA

OUR JOURNEY (Manav Rachna International School, Sec - 14, Faridabad) Written and photographed by: Digvijay, Jatin, Kritarth & Shorya The journey begins at the airport where we all had a great sensation of excitement in our hearts. After travelling for approximately 8 hours, we finally landed in Rome. We were all very hungry and at the same time wanted to explore the city. As scheduled, we were supposed to have fast food for lunch and Indian food for dinner, but that day it got swapped. We recharged our bodies and headed towards the city for exploring. The first place where we went was the “Trevi Fountain”. We were fascinated by a fact that if we throw a coin in the fountain from the right hand over your left shoulder, it will ensure your return to Rome in the future. The second day, we went to Vatican City and visited the Vatican Museum. It was really crowded inside the museum. We saw great art pieces and learned a lot about the origin and culture of Romans and Greeks. For our next destination we stayed in ‘Mercure Rome’, which turned out to be a really good hotel. The next day, we checked out from the hotel and headed towards Switzerland. We all were very excited even though the journey was a little bit tiring. Once we reached there, we headed towards Mt. Titlis where the temperature was -1 degree Celsius. We had to take 3 rope ways to reach the peak. It was very beautiful and really awesome as there were many snow activities like ice flyer, sledging and sky walk. The next day, we travelled to Paris, the city of lights and love. It took us 5 hours to reach Paris by bus, but it was good because we enjoyed the journey by singing songs and playing games. We went to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower and the view was so awesome that it can’t be explained in words. The following day we went to Disneyland. It was amazing and we had a lot of fun on the rides. A journey to Europe is a must. 10

ITALY (Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood Village, Faridabad) Written and photographed by: Ananya, Angad, Anushka, Eimad, Khushi, Khyati, Sanjana & Shaurya When in Rome, do as Romans do! Rome, the first stop of our journey, is a city situated in Italy with wonderful art and architecture. The mesmerizing view stole our hearts and the awesome weather soothed our minds. The city left an impression of itself on our souls as we left ours by leaving our things behind, i.e., losing them. We are all familiar with the grand Colosseum, but when we saw this mighty structure in front of us, we were left awestruck to see and know things we had never known before. While the Colosseum left us awestruck, the other places of interest were amazing too. We loved the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. Soaking in the city while we walked around was another beautiful experience. One of the best parts of the trip was our reaction after seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Every person who saw it said “Oh my god! It is actually leaning!” and all the tourists stood in the exact same pose for the photographs. At the streets near the Leaning Tower of Pisa, we saw some amazing artists, one of them being a violin player whose music really touched our hearts and soothed our minds and another one being a great street artist whose paintings beautifully depicted the expressions of the subject. The best part of Italy was Venice. During the Gondola ride we sang Retro-Bollywood songs, which excited everyone around us. The most humorous incident that happened was the street pranks we did on the streets of Venice. We loved Italy. We took a lot back and we hope we are leaving a lot behind as well. 18

  • 26. VATICAN CITY (Manav Rachna International School, Sec-14, Faridabad) Written and photographed by: Aman, Kabir, Kartik, Manas, Raunak & Sahil Vatican City is an enclave in state of Rome. We enjoyed visiting this beautiful city. The art and architecture of the city was amazing. The city was very clean. We saw geographical maps and had lots of fun in the museum. We visited St. Peter’s Basilica, where we saw paintings depicting the life of Jesus. Vatican City was amazing and if given an opportunity, we would definitely go there again. In the Vatican Museum, we saw ancient Roman sculptures such as the famed statue of Laocoön and His Sons. Vatican City is a city state surrounded by Rome while Italy is the head quarters of the Roman Catholic Church. It is home to the Pope and a trove of iconic art and architecture. After exploring for some time, it was time for us to visit Sistine Chapel, which is located within the Vatican Museum and beside St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sisitine Chapel has precious artwork, especially the ceiling of the chapel that was painted by the famed Michelangelo. We were impressed by the paintings we saw, and when we came to know that Michelangelo was lying on his back most of the time to do the painting, we were amazed. It is a very calm and attractive tourist spot. Thousands of visitors come to see the famous monuments like St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. Vatican City is an artistic city that depicts its ancient history in a simple yet beautiful and elegant manner. Our visit to Vatican City gave us a good insight into the religion of Christianity. We enjoyed viewing the sculptures and paintings and we were very impressed with the order and respect with which people observed everything there. 26

FRANCE (Manav Rachna International School, Sec-14, Faridabad) Written and photographed by: Aaditi, Amaarisa, Gauri, Khushi, Reet, Ruchi & Syeira At a glance beyond the window pane of our second home for the past 5 days, we knew that we were in the city of love. The view was so beautiful and mesmerizing, that it melted us into the love of the city. Approximately over seven million people visit Paris each day. There are so many phenomenal things to see and do, that you’ll never get bored. In the heart of the city, the Eiffel Tower drowned us into its mesmerizing beauty. We discovered the kids inside us, in the interesting Disneyland. For a small fee, you can ride the elevator of the Eiffel Tower to the top. The view was absolutely spectacular. The best time to visit the Eiffel Tower is at night when it lights up. After clicking pictures we realized that it is illegal to shoot it at night. When it lights up, it looks like an attractive golden color, instead of the dark brown color it is painted. The Disneyland Park was filled with loads of excitement and amusement. The best was the ‘Star Wars’ ride (roller coaster) which actually made us feel like we were flying on the wings of adrenaline. The next day we went on a city tour where we, along with our guide went to the historical monuments of France and gathered a lot of information regarding France. It was indeed a very interesting experience and it feels as if France doesn’t want to leave us. 34

SWITZERLAND (Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood Village, Faridabad) Written and photographed by: Aayushi, Damandeep, Purvi, Ritaj, Shrina, Tarini, Vanshika & Vidhi Switzerland, a mountainous central European country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Swiss Alps looks beyond the chocolate, cuckoo clocks and yodeling – contemporary Switzerland, land of 4 languages is all about once-in-a-lifetime journeys, heart racing alpine pursuit and urban culture. On our journey, we had 2 days to explore the picturesque landscape of Switzerland – Zurich, Engelberg and Lucerne. While travelling to Zürich from Padova (Italy), we saw eye-catching scenarios of nature beautified with a modern touch. Zurich, the capital city is blessed with amazing architecture and features reflecting its pre-medieval history. On the second day, we had a two hour drive to Engelberg where we went to Mt Titlis by the means of cable cars. Everyone was spellbound by the beautiful view of the sky and the high mountains. Mt. Titlis was an amazing adventurous experience for each one of us as we reconnoitered through the area through various activities such as cliff walk, snow toy ride, ice flyer and glacier cave. We also bought souvenirs to keep these beautiful memories fresh in our hearts forever. Thereafter, we had a delicious lunch in Trübsee and pushed off for Lucerne wherein, we spread over the civic streets to shop to our hearts content. Our day ended with a palatable dinner at Chicco and we then prepared for the next day to depart for Paris. 42
