for ‘education through action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and
completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to
create responsible global citizens and dynamic leaders by bringing the knowledge of
the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world.
These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of global citizenship based on
empathy, understanding, and international collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Europe as a part of an
educational program. Our students visited several beautiful locations in France,
Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland. To augment the broader program, we selected
the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion.
This Student Travel Review is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module
that our students of Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir School, New Delhi along with the
students of The Mann School, New Delhi and Ahlcon International School, Delhi. It
captures the entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases
their learning from their active interaction with some of the world’s most enigmatic
nations.
I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra Edventures, a company that is well
aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students.
We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educators.
Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe, and enriching travel experience for
our students and teachers.
Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students, who participated in the program so
enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits
of which they will reap all throughout their academic lives and careers. Each parent may
feel proud of this highly demonstrable publication that will keep reminding their wards
of their achievements and capabilities, all lifelong.

5. An educational journey to foreign lands always induces learning and excitement among
young and inquisitive students. When the destinations are as diverse as France, Belgium,
Germany, and Switzerland, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students
would absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark
the cultures and people of India and Europe.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with new cultures, without diluting their fun and excitement
or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which comprises both Indian and international experts. The PDT
carefully designs culturally neutral projects that enable students to meaningfully observe,
record, and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that
encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions besides recording observations through
digital means, all of which is finally synthesised into a media product that showcases the
ideas and learning of the students.
This Student Travel Review, ‘Enchanting Europe: France, Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland’
is one such media product that captures the journey of learning of the students of Bhai
Parmanand Vidya Mandir School, New Delhi. This book serves as a window into the
marvels of Europe, especially valuable for those students, peers, and parents who could
not be a part of the program. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the
students, the credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir School, New Delhi,
for their efforts and support which made this journey possible, with a special mention to
the Principal, Mrs. Prathiba Sharma for guiding us. EdTerra would also like to thank the
accompanying teachers for being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their energy made our
work easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We
encourage you to read and relive the learning and adventures of these students through the
words and photographs that follow.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,

10. OUR JOURNEY
Written and photographed by: Aastha, Kamakshi, Labdhi, Soumya, Urja &
Yashaswini (Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir)
As Sir Richard Burton said, “The gladdest
moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure
into unknown lands”. EdTerra brought this ‘glad
moment’ into our lives. Our journey to four
countries of Europe began with a visit to the
Eiffel Tower in Paris and the view from the tower
was stunning. We were very impressed by all
the arrangements, including the accommodation
options, made by the EdTerra Edventures team.
The next day began with a visit to the Louvre
Museum after which we proceeded towards
Disneyland Paris. All of us thoroughly enjoyed
visiting the amusement park. We rode several
roller-coasters and were even given allowances
for meals.
Next day, we left from France to proceed to the
beautiful country of Belgium where we stayed
overnight at Brussels. We saw some prominent
landmarks in and around the city and bought some
souvenirs for our friends and family members.
After lunch, we drove to Cologne in Germany,
which is situated about four hours away. We
visited the famous Cologne Cathedral, which is
a UNESCO World Heritage site. At Cologne, we
bought some gifts from the local market.
We began the next day with a visit to the
beautiful Black Forest. We also went to Titisee
and visited the Cuckoo Clock Factory. Some of
us bought watches there at reasonable rates.
After that, we went to Heidelberg and completed
our German trip with a city orientation tour.
A visit to Switzerland was planned on the next
day, where we went to Rhine Falls. The waterfall
from a height looked magnificent. At Mount
Titlis, we got an opportunity to see the snowy
mountains at 10,000 feet above the sea level.
It was freezing cold as we moved towards the
glacier but our visit was really exciting.
As per our itinerary, our next destination was
Lucerne where we spent some time shopping
at the local stores. The final day of our trip was
a visit to Geneva. At the end of a four-hour
long journey, we reached the United Nations
Headquarters, where a guide was hired to
assist us in understanding how the UN exactly
functions. It was quite an informative session.
After the visit, we went to visit Lake Geneva
which was quite fabulous.
Our group is thankful for this once-in-a lifetime
experience. This trip to Europe will remain in our
hearts and memories forever. This adventure was
a worthwhile experience and we learnt a lot. As it
has been said, “Travel and change of place impart
new vigour to the mind.”

On our journey to Europe, we visited the beautiful
city of France. After this trip, we are very sure
that no one can come back from a holiday in Paris
without loads of new and joyful experiences. Paris
is home to the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe,
the Louvre Museum, and most importantly,
Disneyland. Some members of our group had
never been on a holiday outside the country and
they were really excited to visit Europe on their
very first trip abroad. We landed in France in the
evening. Our planned schedule went slightly awry
because of the delayed flight. As a result, we
visited the Eiffel Tower directly from the airport.
Each one of us was exhausted, but it was just a
matter of time when we reached the Eiffel Tower
and everyone’s exhaustion was replaced with
excitement. Our tiredness was absorbed by the
magnificent lights of the magnificent Eiffel Tower.
Next day, we visited the historical Arc de
Triomphe and the spectacular Louvre Museum.
It was a great learning experience for history
enthusiasts because almost every corner held
some historical significance. The Arc de Triomphe
stands at one end of the Champs-Élysées, which
was commissioned during the time of Napoleon
Bonaparte. At one of the world’s largest art
museums, the Louvre, we saw the legendary
painting by Leonardo da Vinci, the Mona Lisa.
So far, we had only heard about it or seen its
pictures in books. Seeing it on the wall in front of
us was an extraordinary experience. Further, with
its huge art collection, the Louvre itself comes
across as a very impressive structure.
Last but not the least, we got the opportunity
to visit Disneyland Paris. It was very tiresome
to walk and stand in long queues in such a
huge theme-park for almost the whole day.
However, we realised that walking and waiting
for the roller-coasters was worth the thrilling
experience. We enjoyed so much that it was
simply unbelievable. The Disney parade featured
so many of our favourite characters that it was a
delight to watch all of them. We enjoyed clicking
photographs at all the landmarks we visited.
At the end of the day, we watched a brilliant
display of fireworks, which was simply mind-
blowing. In the end, we would like to say that
there is no other city in the world like Paris. It
is beautiful, historical, rich, varied, and it left
exciting in so many ways for all of us.

26. BELGIUM

From Paris in France, we travelled to the beautiful
country of Belgium. We stayed overnight at the
hotel. Before this visit, we knew very little about
Brussels. We had always heard that the best
cars were manufactured in Germany, the best
watches were made in Switzerland, and France
is renowned for the Eiffel Tower, besides so
much more. After our visit to Brussels, we can
say with certainty that Brussels is best known
for its chocolates, waffles, and fries. We enjoyed
eating delicious waffles at the Grand Place, the
central square of Brussels, which is known for its
beautiful architecture. We were amazed to see
the historical buildings at Grand Place.
The Town Hall is one of the oldest buildings in
Belgium. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
today. It is truly a sight to behold. The walls
of this structure are decorated with intricate
carvings. We clicked many photographs there. It
is a common local saying that if one gets lost in
Brussels, one has to just look skyward and the
grand Town Hall would be towering somewhere
in the distance. If one walks towards the building,
he or she will reach the Grand Place.
From Grand Place, we proceeded to see the
Manneken Pis Statue, one of Brussels’ most
iconic landmarks. We had seen pictures of the
statue but the experience of seeing it in person
was exceptional. We laughed a lot while looking
at the statue. We were informed that the statue
of the little boy adorns different costumes
during the occurrence of major events in the city.
Costumes range from the yellow jersey of Tour
de France to the national costume of Peru and
many more. After witnessing the famous statue,
we headed towards other eye-catching historical
buildings present there.
After we witnessed the grandeur of all these
historical places, our next stop was the
Atomium, which turned out to be ultra-modern
and futuristic. It was our last destination for the
day. The Atomium is a building, which represents
an iron crystal that has been enlarged 165
billion times. It consists of nine interconnected,
stainless-steel spheres, which house a museum
and other public spaces. There were numerous
escalators inside the building. It is a highly
impressive piece of architecture.
After visiting most of Brussels’ important
landmarks, we headed towards a café where we
enjoyed eating delicious fries and pastas. We also
managed to buy some souvenirs for our friends
and family members. Overall, our visit to Belgium
was a fascinating and amazing experience. From
Belgium, we carried on our journey towards
Germany.

Germany is a mix of art, culture, science,
engineering, and natural beauty. Germany is
the largest country in central Europe — it was
everything we were looking forward to and more.
We arrived in Cologne after a bus journey that
took us about three and a half hours. On arrival in
Cologne, we ate a delicious lunch and then began
to explore all the amazing places Germany had
to offer.
First, we went to visit the Cologne Cathedral,
which is truly worth seeing. An excellent example
of Gothic architecture, the Cologne Cathedral
is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which looked
really splendid. The cathedral was surrounded by a
large number of tourists. Having marvelled at the
beauty of the cathedral, we explored the historic
old town and Hohenzollern Bridge. We shopped
for a few souvenirs for our friends and family
members. The Hohenzollern Bridge is famous
for the many padlocks fixed on its railings. The
keys to all those locks are thrown into the Rhine
River by the visitors. Later, we went to an Indian
restaurant to eat a delicious Indian meal even
though it was in a foreign country. Tired after a
very long day, we went back to the hotel to rest
and sleep for the night.
Next day, we went to Heidelberg where we some
stunning historical buildings. We also visited
the Black Forest where we saw some really
interesting places such as a cuckoo clock factory
at Titisee Lake. The drive to Black Forest was an
experience in itself. We were delighted to see a
demonstration on how cuckoo clocks are made,
which fascinated us all. We also learnt the story
of the origin of cuckoo clocks. We also got to
know that the mysterious aura of the Black
Forest inspired the Brothers Grimm when they
wrote Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleeping
Beauty.
Overall, visiting Germany was a beautiful
experience for all of us. We made new friends
and visited places that we had only read about
in books or heard of or seen on television. We
enjoyed eating different kinds of cuisines as well
as Indian food that we had towards the end
of the trip. We faced several situations on the
foreign trip but tackled them all with courage.
The trip was an amazing learning experience.

During our trip to Europe, we visited the beautiful
country — Switzerland. We had only seen the
picturesque locations of Switzerland in movies
or books before. We have always marvelled at
how beautiful this country is. We had heard
and read about the skiing resorts, the precision
of Swiss watches, and the memorable taste of
Swiss chocolates. Some of its beautiful locations
have featured in several Hindi films. It all seemed
very far away and suddenly became so real when
we visited it on this school trip with EdTerra
Edventures.
When we arrived at Zurich from Germany, we
stayed at the hotel overnight. The next morning,
we ate a hearty breakfast at the hotel and
drove to Engelberg to visit Mount Titlis. The
weather throughout our stay in Switzerland was
really cold and rainy. We were glad that we had
carried enough warm clothes to prevent us from
catching cold. Visiting Mount Titlis in such cold
weather was a great idea as we got to experience
snowfall. Most of us had never experienced
snowfall before. We made snowballs and threw
them at each other between squeals of delight
and laughter. It was an exhilarating experience.
To reach Mount Titlis, we rode on the rotating
cable car that offers a 360-degree view of the
Swiss Alps. The view was spectacular from the
cable car. The cold weather and the cherished
company of friends made our day perfect. After
eating lunch, we visited a chocolate factory to
see how the world famous Swiss chocolates
are actually made. Unfortunately, the chocolate
factory was closed and so we missed out on the
opportunity to see how delicious chocolates are
made and wrapped before reaching us.
After visiting Mount Titlis, we went to Lucerne
to see the huge wooden bridge and the beautiful
clear lake besides shopping for chocolates.
Almost all of us bought chocolates from there.
Next day, we went to visit the United Nations
Headquarters in Geneva. In Geneva, we got a
peek into how things work at the UN and learnt
about its multiple agencies and committees
besides the Sustainable Development Goals
from the guide who accompanied us.
During our trip to Switzerland, we gained
an immense amount of knowledge, clicked
memorable photographs, ate amazing food-
dishes, and enjoyed a lot. We could not have
asked for a more fulfilling experience.
