Spencer Fox outlines initial plans for developing a 2D pixel art game. Due to a lack of pixel art skills, the character will be simple. The game will include a main menu, character selection, loading screen, game level, and completion screen. Spencer may rework a previous experiment, adding more sections and changing the character. A mind map shows potential game ideas like a platformer or endless runner. The chosen concept is an adventure platformer with fantasy elements, power-ups, enemies, and changing terrain. A mood board provides examples for character design, menus, and color schemes. A schedule outlines tasks over 5 weeks including design, production, sound integration, and evaluation. References 7 existing games for research.
2. Initial Reaction
• I am more confident with creating a 2D pixel art based
game as I am not great with designing 3D/realistic entities
from scratch digitally, so that suits me well.
• I aren’t exactly the Leonardo Da Vinci of pixel art.
• The character will have to be simple, due to the lack of pixel
art talent.
• I’ll need a main menu, character/level selection screen,
loading screen, the level itself, and a ‘level complete’ screen
etc.
• May also need an on-screen tutorial section displaying the
controls.
• I may re-skin the experiment I made, adding more and
more sections to it, as well as changing the character model
and adding the different screens mentioned above and
enemies/power ups.

6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• Bright colours for the things the player interacts with
• Muted colours for the background/ sections where no interaction occurs
• HUD often includes number of lives remaining, score, items collected etc.
• Dynamic & textured backgrounds
• Feasible locations but with elements of fantasy
How will your mood board influence your final product?
– Provides examples of character models
– Examples of menus that assist my own design
– Allows me to see what colours work well together
– Lets me see how characters are made
