3. Research
• The research portion of the subject was one of the most tedious but most
rewarding, this was because there is countless amounts of information
and depictions of creatures that you have to sift through which can be
quite daunting however the more I looked the more my own ideas
became clearer of how I wanted things to look and be designed like.
• A point of this is about movie posters all being central and spiralling out,
like the Fibonacci spiral. without this knowledge I fear that my poster
design would be more of a mess than symmetric.
4. Planning
• When it came to planning there wasn’t much I focused on, I knew what I
wanted to do and I just needed to work out how to get there. A lot of the
planning I did was experiments to work out how I wanted things to look
and then where to place them to make them look good.
• if I wanted to improve upon my planning I would have began earlier
allowing time to explore more options and designs. If this were the case I
could have put more time in to the concept of key chains and assorted
merchandise.
• A definitive weakness I made in my planning was not taking in to account
the schedules of the people that I needed for photos and because of this I
had issues arranging to take the pictures, this was also due to the fact that
this time of ear has very short days so by the time I do get home to take
pictures its already dark outside. If planning had been better I would have
more images of different situations in more favorable lighting.
5. Time Management
• I believe m time management was pretty well rounded with most
technical work being done on days when I am in collage and physical work
such as manufacturing products like costumes to be used in photos. The
excluded day being a Sunday where I do not have access to sewing
supplies and so it is easier to just do typing. If I had more time I would
have arranged a trip to further away locations for photos for instance lake
Gormire was a location which I would like to have used but thee was not
enough time to arrange a trip.
• The process that took the most time was ascertaining props for use in the
photos which was due to the fact that prop swords are no longer a popular
thing for children to play with unless they are small and plastic
6. Technical Qualities
When looking at the similarities of my product to others it is evident that
I aimed to have the design similar to most other tropes for example
utilising the Fibonacci spiral and focusing on trying to keep the key image
central
Another feature that Is used quite frequently which is also present
in my work is ambiguity of characters or events by either
purposely distorting it or casting shadows over the scene. This is
evident in my research posters with characters either looking away
or purposely hiding they're face.
Merchandise wise I found it easier to dull down an image to make it simpler
and look better, simple sells. If I had more time I would have liked to have
edited the main poster to be wider which would mean there is little to no
whit on the outer side of the mug.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I don’t believe My work doesn’t look too great as I believe my key posters are not
detailed enough and that the images could have had more detail and time spent on
it, particularly the lake and the water effects which I believe looks cheep and
obvious that it is draw on using the computer when applying the images to the
merchandise such as mugs it does not fit as well as hoped as I would prefer the
image reached all the way around. On products like the duvet I believe it looked
quite good thanks to its dark comforting colors. This design makes it quite good for
sleeping in as its not too strong.
8. Audience Appeal
The product applies to my target audience because it is built upon a large veriety of
every day items such as beding, mugs, and pillows. The design is one where its
pressance within a room will not be intrusive and too bright to clash with anything.
The tagline is one that I hope will atract the attention of my target audience however I
believe it is vague and intriguing to more than my target audiences.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The thing that I liked about this product was how certain
sections where mirrored, this made the poster look very
unique.
– Another thing that I liked was the colours used, they where
very good to what they where trying to show
• What improvements could have been made to the
product? One thing that I would change is make sure
people can read and understand the dialogue because I
didn’t know what it was for until I asked.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the blended dark colours and how the
mirror images were distorted from each other
• What improvements could have been made to
the product? I would try and use brighter
colours to make it easier to see the details
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the design of the monsters
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– I would have had more detail in the background
instead of jus a couple trees
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback? I also liked the design of the
mirrored image.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback? I believe it does not need more
colour as its meant to seem dark and
ambiguous.
