3. Research
⢠For the poster of the film I was able to find out about what other posters looked like what made then
creepy and a mystery, what about them caught the eyes of viewers, this is an advantage as I believe it
really helped, finding out what people want to see and how they use different colour images to represent
certain things such as horror, mystery and violence etc⌠and this is key for trying to make a poster look
good. This is why I believe it to be an advantage for the poster and also the trailer. It was extremely helpful
to look at different trailers for films similar to what I was intending to get out of mine I was able to see
what type of angles they used on the camera and which type of shots they used to represent different
areas of the trailer and how it appealed to the target audience that they intended it for so that I could see
how I can get it to appeal to my target audience. I also believe it was helpful research for the trailer as it
showed how much detail of the plot should be included in the trailer and how long the trailer should vary.
⢠A weakness of this research I believe would be that it was very time consuming to take notes from
everyone and look up different posters and watch the different trailers this did help me. However it took a
lot of time to do and this is unhelpful as it doesnât leave much time to complete the personal project
however useful it may be, the survey took a day to make and send out and get back results which made
the interviews more helpful as that took a lesson to complete just using that interview could have had all
the information that I needed.
⢠I believe that I could improve on the research that I have done, I can do this by looking at more examples
of similar products and creating a schedule of when I should research a certain example. This would help
me organise what needs doing and also give me more time, if I did this to improve I believe the research
could have been even more helpful.
4. Planning
⢠I believe that a strength of my planning is that I was able to decide what dates that I would be able to do certain things and
gave me the ability to take health and safety into account. I was able to look into what risks there are when I make my
project and how I would resolve the issue and protect myself against them. Another helpful planning process was the
equipment planning, where I got to think about what equipment I will need to use and where I will use them as well as how
I intend to be able to use them, meaning how will I get the equipment that I need and what will I do if I cant get the
equipment. This allowed me to put contingencies in place for example booking a camera, if the battery runs out I will book a
extra battery this way I'm prepared. This was a good strength as it gave me time to look into contingency plans and to think
about them. Another strength of my planning was getting to look into different but similar products like the one I intended
to make and this gave me something to go on and a target of what type of product that I wanted in the end as well as
knowing what it should look like so that when the project was complete I would be able to compare what it should look like
to what my project looks like. My planning helped my product because it made it easier to create and make because I knew
what I was doing and what type of product I wanted as an end result and what something along the lines of what I was
creating would look like this made it better and more interesting to make as I was eager to make something similar to what I
had planned.
⢠A weakness of this was that it was very time consuming to go through the different items I need in planning although it was
necessary I had to plan for certain items that I did not need in the end and I also created contingence plans that I did not
need when I should of focused on the more important strengths or getting the project completed on time, rather then a lot
of time been spent on making different contingence plans of what to do with equipment that I might not of ended up using
or didnât actually use. I also believe a weakness of the planning to be the quantity of plans and them having to be detailed as
this makes it difficult to remember rather then a simple plan which is easy to remember and would be more useful.
⢠I think that I could have looked into the similar products better and only focused on the equipment that I knew I definitely
needed and have taken the weather into account for what I had planned such as filming and made extra sure on certain
things as well as having a better schedule in place for when I needed to do and concentrate on following that schedule. I
think that this would have made my project better and improved it the effect is that the product would have been in earlier
ad I would have had more time focusing on more important things within the project rather than the little detail.
5. Time Management
⢠I think that my time on some parts of the project was managed well however for other times it wasnât, I managed
my time well for the initial plans as I was able to answer the power point well I knew what I wanted and this made
it easier in the end and more helpful. Another time that I managed the time limit well was for my research, I
believe I followed the schedule well for this as I was interested in finding out about different ideas for products
that are similar to the one I created and see how they have presented different things within it and what sort of
things they have given away to do with the film. Another part that I managed my time well in was production
experiments this is because I handed it in when it was due and I completed each slide with in relatively the same
amount of time, this meant that I was able to complete it on time. I was then able to complete the proposal on
time by managing my time correctly making sure that I spent a total amount of time on a certain part of it. After
this I moved onto pre production, this allowed me to plan contingencies and time for the actual product that I
was creating good time management and allowing me to get it done as well as looking at different examples to
help with my product.
⢠Then I moved on to creating the final product however the time management was not done very well I had a week
to create the product after completing pre production, the day that I intended to create the trailer on a day that
was clear however there was bad weather and strong rain which meant I was un able to do it on that day this
ended up ruining what I had planned as I booked equipment for this day and arranged around it so I was un able
to complete the trailer ands ended up just doing the poster and dvd cover however I have the story board to the
trailer and a plan of what I intended. After this I did the production reflection which I ran out of time on and
handed in late, this was due to my trailer not going as planned.
⢠I believe that if I had additional time that I could have improved it a great deal and made my work a better
standard and of been able to spread my time out better and focus on different things as well as getting everything
completed. I also think that more time would be easer for the trailer as if the day is bad weather I would have
time to arrange another day where there isnât.
6. Technical Qualities
My dvd cover also it
contains a rating to show
what people think of the
film where as the similar
existing product doesnât.
A similarity is that both
of the titles start with
âTheâ to get the readers
attention almost as if its
an experiment.
Both DVD covers include a basic plot to drag
the viewer in on the back of the box and it
explains about the film so that people can see
it and decide if they do or donât to watch it or
not. This is very similar and follows the basic
plot of a dvd cover.
Another similarity is
the titles as they are
both in the a horror
style type of font that
matches to the film
and explains what
type of film it is from
the box.
differences are that
the similar product
contains a catchy
slogan from the film
on the back of the
box where as my dvd
cover does not.
Another difference in
the dvd covers is that
my dvd cover has the
same image all the way
through it where as the
similar existing product
has 2 different images
from the film to
advertise it, the
difference in how it
looks is that my one is
easy to follow around
and is easier to follow
where as the other
similar existing product
is more complex and
complicated.
A difference is that the similar existing product has
much more information about the film and more
things to view on it where as my dvd cover is simple
an plain and only includes specific certain things.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think that the poster and the dvd cover looks good and is the
best I could of done in the time that I had to complete it, it looks
similar to what I was after even if it isnât. I think that the dvd
cover looks good because it matches the basic design of a dvd
cover and doesnât reveal to much about the film/trailer and is
similar to the design that I wanted. I believe I did a good job of
the poster, It reveals 2 images about the film and the title is in a
horror font with blood stains over it showing that it is going to be
a horror genre. I think that the story board was creative and used
different ideas to come up with a setting for a trailer I think that it
used different ideas from other trailers but I think it would work
well with the story. I feel like I could of improved on the poster
and the dvd cover if I had more time, looking back I would
completely change the style of the dvd cover and go with a more
modern idea and I would change the poster to suit the film more
and add pictures that I would take while filming which I didnât get
to do due to bad weather on the planed day. I would improve it
with extra time on each part of the project.
A strength of making these is that it prepares me for the end
project and gives me different ideas to use when I get to the final
project and shows me what type of things I will have to do. A
weakness is that it is time consuming where as the time could
have been spent the final project rather than this which would of
helped.

8. Audience Appeal
Poster
Story boards
DVD Cover
I have appealed to my target audience because I have
focused on making my poster and dvd cover in the shape of
a horror genre film and I have focused my story board
around the idea of supernatural spirits moving through a
dark forest this is what I intended to aim at my audience a
creepy spiritual story and I believe that it makes a good
story for the audience and aims at there type of personality.
The blood covering the title symbolises the violence which
shows that the film is going to be a violent and graphic film
which will appeal to the audience in terms of age range, I
intended on a age range of 12+ which I think would fit well
with the poster, DVD box cover and the story board to the
trailer. On my questionnaire people wanted a horror that
was based around gore and violence which I feel I have
appealed to what they wanted in terms of that however the
people that was asked on the questionnaire was aged
ranged from 16-18 which meant that it doesnât match with
what I intended the age to be, as I want to aim for a lower
age I would have to lighter tone the violence and gore
within the trailer and focus it more along the creepy and
supernatural elements that my storyline shows however it
would show some violence which would appeal to my
audience.
10. Feedback 1
⢠What did you like about the product?
⢠âI like the font style on the poster and the creepy sense that it gives off as well as
the creepy forest and layout style. The storyline has a good plot that would be
interesting to see. The DVD box has a nice idea to it as well.â
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product?
⢠âthe poster needs work to add more mystery and should include an age rating and
the DVD cover should have more about it. And the story board should include
more violence and goreâ
11. Feedback 2
⢠What did you like about the product?
⢠âit gives a tense earie look which would look mysterious and eye catching.â
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product?
⢠âI think you should improve by putting more detail so that you can get a better
understanding of what the movie will be about.â
12. Feedback 3
⢠What did you like about the product?
⢠âI like the overall design as it screams horror and
despair. The lightning is extremely exhilarating, as it
shows the setting of the film.â
⢠What improvements could have been made to the
product?
⢠âa great improvement would be putting the title in the
centre of the page/front cover as this would, grab the
viewers attention and therefore buy the product.â
13. Peer Feedback Summary
⢠What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
â The feedback overall shows that the storyline shows a
good plot and idea for the film although another thinks it
should contain more violence which isnât what I intend for
my end product however the majority agree that itâs a
good idea for a trailer and would like to see it. They also
believe that the poster gives off a creepy earie feel to it.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
â The feedback that I disagree with is that there should be
some more violence and should show more violence
within the story for the trailer I do not believe that there
should anymore as that would take affect away from the
trailer I had planned.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
I would make changes to my poster based on the feedback that said I should
include more detail In my poster as I think that I do need that and I agree that it
would show more about the film and this would look better as well as it would
show different things and different intentions, for the film that I intend to create
and the poster could show it. I would not include the additional violence and gore
as it would aim at a higher age of audience of which I donât want so I wouldn'tât
follow that. I can agree with moving my title a bit further down the page however
it would be anyway when I include the company thatâs made it at the top of the
page and then the title at the top nearer the middle rather than directly in the
middle. I believe that this feedback was helpful and will use the parts that I agree
with because I can understand what they are saying and how it will make it
better. Overall I think that the feedback that I received was extremely helpful and
I am glad to receive the feedback and I hope I can make it better for the audience
from the feedback that I received.
