2. Process- Cover
I decided to make two experiments for the
Cover. I decided to use the game Spiderman
as this game is only for the PS4 like mine and
because it has a main character to focus on.
For the first design I wanted to just focus on
the front cover as this is the first thing that
people see when they look at the cover
making it important to look good. For the
second cover I made both sides of the cover.
As I needed two images, I decided to use two
images of Spiderman which is darker so that
it fits in better and looks good. The aim of
this experiment is so I can see multiple
things. Firstly it shows that having the case
minimalistic with not a lot of writing/ images
also looks good and it doesn’t look messy.
The other thing that this experiment shows
is that colours need to go into consideration
so that both sides of the cover fits well
together and doesn’t look out of place.
3. • I got a picture high quality of Spiderman from the internet and layered it with a high
quality image of a city background to make it look real, this also made it look more
aesthetically pleasing to the male primary audience. I then used dafonts.com to find
a font which fit best. I used this as it allowed me to explore many different fonts and
then layer onto the image so I could see which worked best and didn’t stand out too
much. I used the eraser tool too rub out part of the Spider-Man writing to add more
detail to the cover. I decided to do this instead of layering the Spiderman suit over
the writing so that it increases the aesthetics and so that the forearm went through
the writing and nothing else. The good thing of this was that it made the cover look
better but it took time to make sure that it was too a good standard. I also used tools
such as the dodge tool to darken parts which wither stood out too much or was too
bright. I also used the sharpen tool on the Spiderman suit so that it was more detail
and stood out more pulling attention towards the suit.
4. Process- Merchandise
For the Merchandise experiment I have
decided to make three designs. He have used
the same jumper style and pattern design. I
had used google to get the image of the
jumper template and the flames that appear
on the back of the jumper and the side of the
sleeves. On the first jumper at the top I decided
to use the colour of black on black, this makes
the design more subtle which I like. With the
other two designs I used black on white and
gold on black. These colour combinations make
the design stand out more which is also good.
These colour combinations can help to interest
the audience as they can wear these with
different clothing's. I used the website
Dafonts.com so I can find the font which I shall
use for my final merchandise. To layer the
writing onto the jumper I used Photoshop. I
also used it so that I can edit the flames so that
they look like they are actually on the jumper.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
• Cover- For the final cover I will use the information and knowledge that I got with the
experiment. Firstly I will keep the front cover minimalistic as that makes it more aesthetically
pleasing to see and will make the buyer want to pick the game up to look at. I will do this by
not adding much writing to the front and only including images to make it minimal. I am also
going to use the burn tool and the sharpen tool on the parts that are most important. For
example I will use the sharpen tool on the main character and car to highlight their features
and detail them more to help them stand out and show that the are an important aspect to
the cover. I can also use the burn tool on anything that I think is too dark and that needs to
brightened up. From the experiment I saw that the dodge and blur tool was useful to move
the focus of unimportant parts. I will use the blur tool to blur objects which stand out too
much and divert the focus of the main character.
• Merchandise- For my final merchandise I will use aspects from the original design. Firstly I will
use the double colours as I think this looks good. I will only have three colour designs for the
jumper as that is a popular choice of merchandise. On all other products I will use black and
gold as that is a appealing colour combination to attract the primary audience. I am also
going to position the name of the game in the centre of the jumper like the experiment as I
think that it looks aesthetically pleasing and works well. The font will also be a good addition
to the jumper as it is unique and looks electrifying which will appeal to the primary and
secondary audience. For the jumpers I will also include the flames on the side of the sleeves
as that symbolises the destruction and damage that gets caused in the game. I also makes it
look better and adds more detail. Instead of flames on the back of the jumper and T-Shirt I
am going to add the logo of the game to link towards it.
