2. Process- Merchandise
To make the Merchandise I had to use a few different tools. Firstly I used DaFonts.com to get
the font for the name ‘Golden Gate’ so that it was more unique. I then used google to get
the template of the jumper and I used to Photoshop to layer the flames onto the sleeves. I
used Photoshop as it is easy to use and it allows me to freely choose what I want happening
with different layers. To make the logo for the back, I got an image of money and a red
bridge and layered them onto a circle where I then added the words golden gate to show
what the name of the game/
brand is called. To make the
other merchandise I repeated
the same steps that I took
to make the first one but
when sorting out the
colours I changed them
using the paint bucket tool
to that I could change the
who jumper and pattern
to the desired colour that
I thought worked best.
3. Process- Merchandise
On the jumpers I saw that the logo stood out
a lot and didn’t fit in very well. I thought that
it made it look less real and that it wasn’t to
the standard that I wanted it to be. To fix this
I changed the colours so they where less
neon and are now more natural colours by
using a more natural colour and the paint
bucket tool. I also decided to change the
opacity of the logo so that It made it look a
little bit darker and so that it faded onto the
jumper more. I think that this was the best
idea as it made it a little see through and it
also allowed me to be more accurate with
the level of opacity as I could change it by 1%
percent each time until I got the level of
opacity that worked best. I did this will all of
the logos and all writing so that they blended
and fitted onto the jumpers and
merchandise better.
4. Process- Cover
For the Cover of the game I also had to go through a few stages to try make it look as
real as I can. Firstly I had to create and edit the Audi R8 so that I look real enough and
fitting in well for the cover. I used google to get an image of a Black Audi R8 as that
was my chosen vehicle for this project, I then put that image on to photoshop so that I
could edit it. To get rid of the cars background I used the magic wand tool to get rid of
the majority of the background. I decided to use this tool to do that instead of any
other tool because it selects the one main colour which was white and it allows you to
get rid of it quicker and easier. To get rid of any little bits that was missed I used
the quick selection tool as
that allows me to
specifically highlight an area
I want to delete. Finally I got
rid of any backgrounds from
all layers to that I only had
the car vectorised.
5. Process- Cover
For my next stage of the process I changed the colour of the car. When I finished the car in the
first stage of the process I layered it onto the game cover that I designed and saw that it stood
out too much and that I couldn’t fix it and make it fit in by changing the opacity. To make it fit in
to the cover better I had to change the colour of the car a little bit so that it blended in. To do
this I used google to get a sandy colour and I layered it onto my photoshop page where my car
was. I then put the sand coloured image above the cars layer so that I can layer them better and
so that the car would take the sandy colour. I then experimented with the different layering
settings to that the car look the colour and look more realistic. I went with the darken setting as
it made the colour of the car go very well and looked the most natural out of them all. After that
I then used the Wand tool and quick selection tool to vectorise the image again. I also decided
this colour as the car was going to be on a beach and it helps blend with the sand.
Different Layering Settings
6. Process- Cover
For this part of my work I wanted to make a
character that both look natural and questioning.
This will make the buy be more interested in why
the main character looks like that and wonders
why he is hiding his face. To make this character I
used google to get a random looking character
from a game so I can edit it. I also used google to
get a skull mask that I could layer onto my
character make him look powerful and villainous. I
put these image all into photoshop and layered
them so that they fit perfectly. On the legs I saw
that there was blue lights going across which I
didn’t like as they looked fake. To get rid of these I
used the burn tool to darken them so that didn’t
stand out as much. I also used the burn tool on all
areas of the character which I thought stood out
too much or was too bright. Finally to full get rid
of the light streaks I use the blur too on anywhere
that stood out to much and didn’t fit well. I also
used the sharpen tool on the mask to make that
stand out more as I looks a little blurry.
7. Process- Cover
At this stage of the process I am starting to layer the different images on to photoshop
and experiment for where looks best to position them. To make the cover template I used
google to get a blank PS4 cover template so that I know where to put the writing and for
what space I had so that I looked real. I then layered an image of a beach and the San
Francisco's golden gate bridge under the PS4 template. I then cut out the template of the
Ps4 cover so that I could see the background and template together. I did this by using
the layering setting to darken them together to that I can see where I needed to cut to
make it more precise. Next I used DaFonts.com to get a font which I liked for the name
and put the golden gate name and logo on the side of the case. I like using DaFonts.com
as it has a lot of choices
for me to use. Finally
I then layered the
main character and
car on to the case so
that they fit well and
so that they looked
real enough for a
game case.
8. Process- Cover
In the next stage I added a lot of parts to add more detail and make it look like a proper game
case. I first increased the size of the main character and the car as they are important to be seen.
I also vectorised lost of money piles and put them next to the Audi. Next I use the same colour
and font text for the title. To make it look more real and detailed I used the 3D text tool so that it
is 3D with a shadow. I decided to do this as it makes it more aesthetically pleasing. I used my
research to see that real games have the PEGI mark to let the buy know the age rating and the
makes name in the corner. I used google to get the pegi 16 image and the ubisoft logo. For the
back cover I had started to add in the text and images about the game. I used a font from
DaFonts.com that I thought worked well and looked good. I also got image templates and edited
them to how I wanted
them to look so they
both fit in with the
case background and
so they looked real.
Finally I got the Online,
String language and
violence logo from
google to add a little
bit more detail and to
inform the audience
about the game.
9. Process- Cover
On the final stage of my process I didn’t make a lot of changes as it was near enough
done. The first thing I changed was the font of the blurb text on the back of the case. I
used another font from DaFonts.com as they have lots of different and unique fonts to
choose from. I changed the font as the new font is easier to read and it looks better
for the game as It fits in nicely. I have also swapped the image layout around so that in
makes sense to be in a certain order as the last image talks about the money that you
make with the first two images. Have also added the pegi 16 image on to the back of
the case to add more detail to make it look real. Finally, I used the sharpen tool to
increase the detail
on parts of the
images that had
been lost such as
making the sharper
and more crisp on
the car and the main
characters mask. I
also used the dodge
tool to blur anything
that I though stood
out too much as this
will always
everything to look
more natural.
