Analysis Of The 1992 Los Angeles Riots
The state of California has a rich history of events, that on a social level, have played major parts in
change and perception among the populations as a whole, and in individual communities. History has
shown, and will continue to do so in the future, that changes within communities, towns, cities, states,
and countries is generally motivated by civil injustice. In researching defining moments , I have
chosen the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. The riots of 1992 mark a pivotal point in time for California in
regard to social issues and injustices in matters of race and socioeconomics. Following, I will describe
the defining event , the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and why I believe what was important that was
learned, and how it has impacted California 25 years later. I was in school, ninth grade, and it was
early afternoon. The whole class was tense and quiet. It seemed like that old, round clock had stopped
ticking. The whole school had the Rodney King verdict on our minds. We knew it was coming today
and we all knew they weren t going to punish those officers for beating Rodney King like he was a
dog. I couldn t wait to get home. I wanted to be safe at home. My home girls are stressing and passing
notes joking about running home while the teacher is reading a magazine. The intercom buzzer rings
and the Mrs. Parks voice starts talking. Students, we are now going to release everyone from school
early and we want all of you to go home immediately and wait for your

Carbon Dioxide As A Chemical Compound
Carbon dioxide is a chemical compound. When it is at a certain room temperature it goes into gas
form. Everybody such as people and animals release carbon dioxide when breathing out. Also when
something is burnt and fire occurs that also release carbon dioxide. How was carbon dioxide created?
Carbon dioxide is created when one carbon and two oxygen comes together. As shown below:
Another thing is that plants also use carbon dioxide in order to make food. This is known as
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a chemical process that involves sunlight to turn carbon dioxide into
sugar that the cells can use as energy.
Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gas is the reflect radiation that the earth emits, and
stop it from being lost into space. This causes the Earth s temperature to be higher than it would be
without greenhouse gases. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began around 1750, human activities
have contributed a lot to climate change by adding carbon dioxide and among other heat trapping
gases into the atmosphere. Some scientists think that greenhouse gases are causing global warming,
the rise of Earth s surface temperature.
What is Carbon dioxide? Carbon dioxide or CO2 for short is a colorless, odorless, faintly acidic
tasting, non flammable gas. It is considered the fourth most abundant gas in the earth s atmosphere.
Constantly being used among the atmosphere, ocean, and land surface as it is both produced and
absorbed by many microorganisms,

It Happened One Night-1934 Video Analysis
The video It Happened One Night 1934 was interested, because it illustrated how women are viewed.
The video displays a man and a woman trying to stop cars for a ride. The man tried to stop them by
putting his thumb in the air and waving his arms, but everyone is driving by them. However, when the
woman tries, and she gets a car to stop instantly by pulling up her skirt to expose her legs. The video
displays how women are often noticed for their appearance. The woman in the video was slim and she
was wearing a skirt and high heels. The video displayed why women focus on their appearance,
because they want to be appealing or desired by others.
The video related to Mintz, because they both displayed ways women focused on their appearance.

The Campylobacter Report
It is believed that the first report about Campylobacter was back in 1886 by Escherich who observed
and described non culturable corkscrew shaped bacteria isolated from the colonic contents of infants
who had died as a result of cholera infantum (Escherich, 1886; Skirrow and Butzler, 2000; King and
Adams, 2008; Vandamme et al., 2010). Campylobacter identified for the first time in 1906 by John
McFadyean and Stewart Stockman, who reported the presence of large numbers of a peculiar
organism in the uterine mucus of a pregnant sheep (Skirrow, 2006; Zilbauer et al., 2008). After this in
1913, McFadyean and Stockman isolate these microorganisms from aborted bovine fetuses and
successfully cultured for the first time (McFadyean and Stockman, ... Show more content on

Later in 1947, Vicent and his associates isolate the bacteria from pregnant women (Vincent et al.,
1947; Zilbauer et al., 2008).It was not until the 1950 s that Elizabeth King first suggested these vibrios
could be associated with the human enteric disease. King cultured them from the blood of infected
individuals and was the first to study this human disease causing Vibrio species in depth (King, 1957).
She observed that they grew at a distinctly higher optimum temperature than the other vibrios they
were grouped with and referred to this subgroup as related vibrios (King, 1957). Sebald and Véron
formally separated these related vibrios from the Vibrionaceae family and proposed the genus name
Campylobacter (Greek meaning, a curved rod) in 1963 (Sebald Véron, 1963). The differences which
lead to this separation were their requirement for microaerophilic growth conditions, the DNA being
of a low guanine and cytosine base composition, their non fermentative metabolism and their elevated
optimum growth temperature (Sebald Véron,

The Role Of Framing In News Media
Framing is something that has been for hundreds of years. This is the way in which certain topics and
issues are talked about to try to influence the way we think about an issue. This type of framing is seen
on news media every day. Different types of news media may report on issues in different way
depending on what the issue is. The framing can be really subtle with the use of different words that
can portray two completely different meanings. The issue I will be talking about is immigration and
how immigrants are reported in contrasting type of media. Immigration over the last years has become
an increasing talking point in politics today. The left and right have contrasting ideas on what should
be done about illegal immigration. News media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right leaning sources, like Bill O Reilly, Fox News and many republican politicians, often refer to
unlawful immigrants as illegal. This type of frame has a negative connotation for immigrants. An
immigrant may be seen as more of a criminal. It s interesting to note that this type of usage of the
word is unique to immigration. Drivers that violate the law are never called illegal drivers . This type
of frame makes the issue seem more of a cut and dry issue of illegal and legal. Immigration this way
becomes a black and white issue. So if one is called an illegal immigrant then he must be a criminal.
The expression invites for the easy use of the word criminal. Many articles that use this word also
seem to tend to use the word criminal. The word criminal then has an even stronger negative
connotation than illegal. The connection between those two words become even stronger when illegal
is used as a noun. The noun illegals is only used for immigrants and not any other crime. The
connection, thus may be stronger. When it s used as noun the term makes it more of an attack on the
person rather than the actions of

The Future Of Zoos During The World Of Activists Attacks
The Future of Zoos In the Midst of Activists Attacks
In an increasingly threatening environmental crisis, zoos are participating in the conservation of
species. The biodiversity of the animal and plant worlds is being deeply affected, on the one hand by
the disruption of ecosystems caused mainly by climate change and deforestation, and on the other
hand, by the globalization of trade, travel, transport, and tourism. These two factors are increasingly
reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). Even in the face of the
environmental serial destruction, animal protectionist and wildlife conservationist activists criticize
zoo s efforts to protect the animals they house. The ways zoos progresses in the future to ... Show

The Doctor Chris Parsons, former Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, explains animal
welfare groups accept the use of animals for some human interests like clothing, food, recreational
need, or scientific experiments, as long as the animal is free of stress and pain . The influential groups,
the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recognize on
their website some zoos are beneficial to animals supporting conservation programs, participating in
the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and promoting education about the importance
of wildlife. However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the Humane Society
recommends zoos to be organized around a core mission that educates the public about the needs of
the animals and the threats they face . Also, zoos should provide animals with humane care and
adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs. Finally, ASPCA indicates, zoos should
participate in tightly controlled breeding programs and their display should stress the themes of
endangered species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity . Unfortunately, many zoos are
not falling under this description, but they can act on several factors in the intent to work towards the
animal welfare activists demands.

Papa John Financial Analysis
Papa John s financial performance varies when comparing its financial ratios to its competitors.
Unfortunately, Papa John s cannot directly be compared to Pizza Hut because the largest pizza chain
corporation is part of Yum Brands, Inc., which also operates Taco Bell and KFC. In addition, the
fourth largest pizza operator, Little Caesars, is a private entity that does not require to publicly
disclose its financials. Therefore, a comparison of Papa John s financial analysis will be completed by
using one of the larger rivals, Domino s Pizza, and one of the smaller pizza chain enterprises, Rave
Restaurant Group (Rave).
When comparing different organizations of all sizes within an industry, it is feasible to use financial
ratios, especially liquidity ratios. Horngren, Harrison, and Oliver (2012) defines liquidity as a measure
of the company s ability to pay its short term debt obligations. Some examples of basic liquidity ratios
are the current ratio and quick ratio.
On one hand, a corporation s current ratio measures a company s ability to pay current liabilities with
its current assets (Horngren, Harrison, Oliver, 2012, p. 733). Papa John s current ratio of 1.14 for
fiscal year ending 2016 was higher than Rave s 0.76 (Morningstar, 2017). Nevertheless, Papa John s
current ratio is lower than Domino s Pizza, whose ratio was 1.23 for the same time period
(Morningstar, 2017). On the other hand, Papa John s quick ratio of 0.63 is higher than both Domino s

Thanks to a wild and crazy night at Madison Square Garden Saturday night, the UFC has three new
champions. Some tagged UFC 217 as the best card of the year, and the event certainly lived up to the
hype. The card gave people what they want to see out of a high priced event: finishes. Some were
more unexpected than others, but the event was quite a spectacle and now opens a forum of many
questions heading into 2018. In the first of the three title fights, and perhaps the most shocking, Rose
Namajunas claimed the women s strawweight title by making longtime champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk

People only see what they are prepared to see is a famous quote by Ralph Waldo. This quote
emphasises the fact that the purpose of a text can often be unnoticed and misinterpreted by the viewer.
Many people only have a limited world experience, and it s the Distinctly Visual feature of a text
which allows the viewer to gain a better understanding. Distinctly Visual texts use a combination of
techniques to create and shape an audience s point of view or interpretation, and visualising a text
requires the responder to interpret all of the images presented. The text Shoe Horn Sonata by John

however, realistically it also implies that war is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play, Misto uses the lighting in diverse ways. For example, in the TV studio setting,
the lighting is used to generate an environment in which an interview would take place; a sterile
environment, but in the hotel room setting, the lighting is clear and expresses an optimistic and
welcoming atmosphere. Misto s use of lighting enables the viewer to sense different things depending
on the brightness and direction of the light. In the TV Studio setting, the themes acknowledged are the
cruel treatment of POW s in the camps and the futility of war, whereas in the hotel setting the themes
are those of camaraderie, trust and remorse. By making this contrast, Misto ensures the viewer can see
both sides of the situation. The first scene opens in darkness, when out of the silence comes the voice
of one of the protagonists, Bridie. The spotlight falls upon Bridie as she reminisces on the past,
reciting a self conscious memory of how the Japanese used to torture them by making them kowtow
for hours. She demonstrates the kowtow which takes the audience straight into the action. Misto uses
this specific lighting to attract the audience s attention and attract them to Bridie standing alone in the
spotlight to give an insight of what the text is going to focus on as she talks about her life during the
war. John

Adolf Hitler s Primary Sources
Adolf Hitler was arguably one of the world s most powerful dictators of all time. Hitler used the Jews
as a scapegoat throughout his rise in power. Using antisemitism to preach hatred and blame on the
Jews for all of Germany s problems, including the loss of World War I. Hitler had gained the support
of other countries to include Italy and Japan and was going to stop at nothing to ensure that the
German people would reign supreme. Hitler had his Army ready for war and was confident that a
victory for Germany was certain, he just needed an opportunity to strike. In this paper we will discuss
the history of WWII, to include Hitler s rise to power, world conquest and the transition of Cost
Artillery to today s Air Defense. From the very beginning of Adolf Hitler s career, he had two goals.
His primary goal was the forcible acquisition of living space, also known as Lebensraum, for the
German people. Secondly, he plotted the extermination of the Jews. In 1935, Adolf Hitler openly
violated the Treaty of Versailles by rapidly rebuilding the German Army. Other countries began to get
nervous at the exponentially increasing German Army. Hitler assured fellow diplomats that the rapid
growth was strictly a defensive measure. He claimed Germany had every right to build its forces to be

Character Analysis Of Linda Loman In Death Of A Salesman
One of the main characters in the play, Death of a Salesman, is Linda Loman. Linda Loman faces
many difficulties in this play, one of which is being part an affair she was unaware of. In the play,
there are many sides to one story, and there are many stories with many sides. Death of a Salesman
can be portrayed in an array of ways, depending on the form of literary criticism used.
Linda Loman is the mother of Biff and Happy. Her husband is Willy Loman. Her character is viewed
as the protagonist. The true colors of Mrs. Loman come out as the play progresses. The characteristics
of the pathological dynamics of the Loman family (Cohen) are also played out.

In the past few years the statistics shows the stagnation of Automobile sector in unites States of
America, Canada and Japan. However, the automobile companies were targeting countries of South
America and Asia for their new market as the economy was on a developing phase during this period.
China, Brazil, Russia and India are on the target of the automobile companies in the recent path. In the
first four months of 2010 the sales figure of cars and commercial vehicles in the world has reached to
17 million which was equal to 13.65 million for 2009 for the same period. During the year 2008, the
increase in the oil prices results into the increase in the price of raw material and the change in the
spending pattern of customers. Automobile industry is also facing challenges from public transport
due to which the preference of customer for having their personal vehicle is changing. The other
demoralizing factor is the increasing taxes and other duty taxes on the manufacture of automobiles. As
the governments of different countries is under a huge pressure of increasing pollution and emission of
green house gases they are introducing more and more policies to discourage car purchasers. It has
been expected that nearly fifty one light vehicle manufacturing companies are closing in near future in
United State alone. This will create a loss of two hundred thousand jobs in United States.

Born in the Renaissance era as al Hassan ibn Muhammad al Wazzam, Leo Africanus came from
Granada, a city found at the bottom of the mountains in Andalusia, Spain. Even though he was not

His name literally means the son of Muhammad the weigh master. Shortly after his birth, this city was
conquered by the Catholics, Isabella and Ferdinand. The once diverse city, where Muslims, Jews,
Christians, etc coexisted, became divided. The Kings apparently decided, around 1492, that they

Welcome to the Realm of Love
Welcome to the realm of love
You dream of an unfamiliar hand being placed on your elbow. It is tender and adoring, but at the same
moment it has a gargantuan power that easily lifts you awake. You are suspended over a countryside at
dawn. You gaze downward and you realize that this cosmic expanse extending out to the horizon and
distant beyond it is all your property. The existence you have endured and have yet to live stretches
out beneath you. It s surprisingly gigantic, a complete continent sheltered with a subtle cobalt vapor.
You can scarcely familiarize yourself, but you worship this territory from deep within your spirit. You
marvel at that, but just for a short minute, because it then occurs to you what this immeasurable
immense and magnificent ground beneath you is: it s called love.
As you slowly drift downwards, you are still gazing, lost in thought, at the landscape before your eyes.
You touch down gently, grateful to feel the earth below your feet. A delicate fog surrounds you. You
see a light in front of and up above you. A mighty tower looms before you. Completely solitary, it
rises from the landscape like a pillar. It is beautiful and strangely familiar, as if you had been there
many times before.
Light comes from a small window set high in the facade. Something wonderful is shining there, gentle
and friendly. As you walk around the tower, you see an open door. You go inside, where a broad,
winding staircase greets you. Each step, each stone is familiar.

Analysis of Ralph Ellison s The Invisible Man Essay
Analysis of Ralph Ellison s The Invisible Man
The prologue from The Invisible Man deals with many issues that were palpable in the 1950s, and that
unfortunately are still being dealt with today. An African American man who refers to himself as the
invisible man goes through life without being truly noticed as a person. He states that because of his
skin color he is only looked down upon, if he is ever noticed at all. The invisible man goes through
life living in a closed down part of a basement that no one knows exists and he anonymously steals all
of the power that he needs from the Monopolated Light Power Company. Ralph Ellison successfully

This was to show that Ellison and every American was just that, American. Everyone is a citizen no
matter creed or color. The purpose of the essay was to open the publics eyes to the unjust treatment of
minorities of that time. Ellison clearly established to his audience that racism was not going away and
that facing the problem head on would be the only was to fix the problem at hand.
This essay also used a pathetic appeal to sway the reader. Ellison wrote descriptively about the events
that made the invisible man who he was. All of the examples were extraordinarily evocative in
depicting the way the invisible man made it through life. From the paradigm of the invisible man and
his encounter with the blond man, to the portrayal of the former slave woman, Ellison captivated the
audience. I kicked him repeatedly, in a frenzy because he still uttered insults though his lips were
frothy with blood , illustrates the invisible mans hate toward the blond man who offended him first.
This dramatic recourse pales in comparison to the account of the former slave woman. When recalling
a dream the invisible man recites a tale of a woman who loved her former master even though he
would not free her or her children that her master fathered. This depiction pulls at the heart strings
when the woman sobs after being asked about freedom, and she knows that she will never be able to
taste it. Overall the representations are powerful and

The Federalist Party Vs. The United States
By 1800, the Federalist Party was divided, clearing the way to the presidency for the Democratic
Republicans. Federalists like Washington and Adams wanted the federal government to have most of
the power in the United States. The non Federalists, Jefferson and Madison, during that time wanted a
small federal government with very little power. They were very much concerned with state rights and
individual freedom for the people. The political shift from Federalists, Washington and Adams, to
Democratic Republicans, Jefferson and Madison, resulted in non Federalists coming to power and a
shifting of government focus, the repealing of policies such as the Alien and Sedition Acts and the
Judiciary Act of 1808, and westward expansion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jefferson, as a non Federalist, believed that Hamilton s national bank was unconstitutional and
decided to abandon that policy, trim the federalist budget, and cut taxes. Jefferson, as a Democratic
Republican, did not like or trust the government due to its limit on the freedom of the individuals, but
he acknowledged the necessity. Jefferson believed in a democracy where the people and the states had
most of the power, which was a great step away from the policies the federalists had been putting in
place. In order to fulfill the non federalist s wishes to return power to the state, it meant relinquishing
powers of the central government, and this began with repealing the alien and sedition acts put in
place by the federalists. One of Adam s major flaws in his presidency was the execution of the Alien
and Sedition Acts, which allowed the government to compulsorily banish foreigners and jail
newspaper editors for scandalous writing. The acts were political, aimed at abolishing new settlers
support for Democratic Republicans. The Sedition Act strictly regulated anti government speech and
was a clear violation of the First Amendment. When the Federalists came into power, they repealed
the Alien and Sedition acts, and Jefferson led the opposition to them. Together with Madison, he
drafted the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, which claimed that the Alien and Sedition Acts were
unconstitutional. In addition, before the federalists had left

The Rapid Evolution Of Health Care
The Stand Alone ER The Rapid Evolution of Health Care By Steve Okhravi, MD, MBA, CPE July 16,
2012 Emergency care in the US is at a breaking point. Per data from The Institute of Medicine, over
1000 hospitals closed in the past few years because of the enormous cost associated with operation.
There has been an increase in the number of visits to emergency rooms (ERs) to more than 120
million mostly due to those who are uninsured who, as a result, have a lack of access to primary care.
As the number of those who are uninsured grows because of the recession so, too, does the community
who turns to ER services for their health care needs. Clearly, ER provides a safety net for the
medically underserved. With the passage of the healthcare law, the shortage of primary care resources
will be more noticeable. And, that means people will resort to ERs to seek care since they cannot
access their doctors after usual office hours, on weekends or during holidays. In mid year 2012, there
is currently a shortage of 150,000 primary care physicians. And, by 2020, it is projected there will be
an additional 50,000 PC physician shortage. There are about 4,600 ERs nationwide and the numbers
are decreasing. Overcrowded and slow ERs are symptoms of deeper problems in our health care
system. The American College of Emergency Physicians recently gave the nation s ER system a D
rating for access of care and C overall. Stand Alone emergency rooms are like an ER whereby you are

Sales Promotion Strategy
Sales Promotion Strategy
Sales are the lifeblood of a business, without sales there would be no business in the first place;
therefore it is very important that if a business wants to succeed, it should have a sales promotion
strategy in mind. The primary objective of a sales promotion is to improve a company s sales by
predicting and modifying your target customer s purchasing behavior and patterns. Sales promotion is
very important as it not only helps to boost sales but it also helps a business to draw new customers
while at the same time retaining older ones. There are a variety of sales promotional strategies that a
business can use to increase their sales, however it is important that we first understand what a sales

Sales promotions or term it as sales and promotion, together makes one. These promotions include
quite a lot of communication activities that would help in adding value or advantage to the customers,
retailers and wholesalers and others to kindle the sales. These things would help in rousing interest in
having a trail or purchasing the product or a service. Samples, premiums, contests, point of purchase
displays etc are some of the techniques that you can use.
There are some agencies having their sales promotions divisions, where they wholly depend only on
promotions. The functionalities for both the sales promotion and ad agencies are alike up to some
extent, but these sales promotions, promo staff are more consumerist. These promotions are vital for
proper marketing of services or products of a company. There are three categories of strategies namely
push strategy, pull strategy and combination of both.
A push strategy engrosses the intermediary channel members to push the product through the
distribution channels to end consumers through promotions. Companies promote the services or
products though the resellers who in turn promote it to another buyer or to the end customer. These are

To My Fellow Non-America
Moving to a new country comes with a lot of challenges that people need to overcome. Overcoming
culture shock is often the biggest challenges that people face, as adapting to a new culture is very

Political Factions
For the majority of us, government often seems like nothing more than a distant and unrelatable
amalgamation of esoteric arguments and oceans of rules and regulations. Nevertheless, government
touches us all and not just during tax season. For better or worse, governments all over the world form
the backbone of society as we know it. For this reason, it becomes relevant for us as citizens and
residents to pose certain fundamental questions. The most significant being one that is consequential
to all civilized persons, What is the appropriate role of government in the lives of citizens? Another
overarching question particular to the United States is, What is the appropriate balance of federal and

The formation of Factions is a totally natural and to be expected. Different people want different
things. The two biggest examples of factions are the left and right sides of the political spectrum. On
one end, the left, you have the liberal people open to new and different ideas, believe in the
importance of helping each other, and believe that government needs to be involved in social issues in
order to provide equality. On the other end, the right, you have the conservative people who are
determined to uphold established ways of thinking, believe in the importance of self reliance, and
believe that government should stay out of social issues in order to protect freedom. What happens
when these two large factions do not agree? Absolutely nothing, as demonstrated by today s
government. Madison was worried about this problem and asserted that it was necessary for a national
government consisting of a single party to exist in order to counteract the polarizing and paralyzing
effects of factions among the states. As they act as a further separation of power, factions do have their
benefits. However, having the federal government become a more party neutral environment could
greatly help to avoid some of the problems we see today; the federal government could keep the states
and their factions in check and make sure things actually get

Descriptive Essay On Skiing
Skiing the Slopes The last minute, go to vacation place Colorado. A destination my family has relied
on for many family vacations. The earliest memory that I have of Colorado takes place at the age of
maybe three or four years old, and we went there two years in a row on a skiing trip at the Monarch
Mountain Ski Resort with my mom s side of the family. There was a bunch of people crammed into
two cabins in the mountains. One cabin held me, my parents, my sister Matlyn, grandparents, aunts,
uncles, and cousins. While the cabin across the river held my grandpa s brother, his wife, kids, and
grandkids.
Being not old enough to ski by myself, I was required to take a skiing class. For half the day we skied,
and then were in a daycare for the rest. It was AWFUL! The daycare part, not the skiing. A girl there
who was quite fond of stealing my toys and snacks still haunts my memories of that place. She should
know not to take a girls snack. The best part of that vacation was when we went back the next year,
and grabbed a brochure/map and there was a picture of me on it from the year before. In the picture I
was all bundled up in my coat and the scarf that my mom made for me, and wearing oversized ski
goggles that covered my whole face, and beside me was my ski instructor. I WAS FAMOUS!

a week. The owners lived right next door and had a daughter who was about my age and had

impossible possible started. Excited about facing the impossible, I made myself a list of all the things
that my parents, family, friends, and teachers thought will make me great. After almost a decade from
the time I wrote that list, I started going through my list: soccer, check; tennis, check; theatre, check;
basketball, check; business, check; medical, check. Ironically, everything I started doing seemed to be

Essay about The Benin Bronzes
This essay deals with the nature of a cross cultural encounter between the Benin people and
Portuguese traders in the 15th and 16th centuries, which resulted in the depiction of Portuguese
figures in Benin brass plaques. It will propose that this contact between people with different cultures
was on the basis of mutual regard (Woods, K. 2008, p. 16), and although the Portuguese had qualms
about idolatry in Benin it will show that assumptions by Europeans up to the 20th century of the
primitive nature of tribal African societies was inaccurate with regard to the Benin people, who had a
society based on the succession of the King or Oba , a Royal Family and Nobility. The essay will

2008, p. 8), then resold them further along the coast, using the proceeds to buy gold.
According to Joseph Eboreime, a Nigerian historian, the bronze heads are a visual history of the Benin
Royal Family from before 1440 until 1897 (Woods, K. 2008, p. 12). It appears that the bronzes were
seen only by the Oba and Royal Court with access to the royal compounds and rooms, during
ceremonies commemorating their ancestors (Ben Amos in Woods, K. 2008, p. 12) . It is also unlikely
they were seen in situ by the Portuguese traders either (Pereira, D. P. also Pina, R. both in Woods, K.
and MacKenzie, R. 2008, p. 33).
Finally, the plaques are clear evidence of a mutually beneficial cultural encounter with Portuguese
traders in which both parties gained. It could be speculated that the rectilinear form of the plaques
arose from Benin craftsmen seeing Portuguese oil paintings, but there is no evidence of this. The
plaques, however, do first appear after contact with the Portuguese, following which there was a
resurgence in bronze sculptures, probably as a result of the increased wealth and confidence of Benin.

discuss about the disease itself, the current outbreaks that are related to this disease, preventions and
the treatments.

ability to multiply regardless of the different environmental conditions allows the bacteria to spread

Another recent outbreak which aroused

the findings on the animal will be explored. This is the shark s Real Bite. It s important to realize what
sharks are capable of. For example, it states in What do you know about Sharks? by Sharon Guynup
that [the dusky shark] exerts 18 tons of pressure per square inch on a victim. That only being one of
hundreds of species one

  • 2. Analysis Of The 1992 Los Angeles Riots The state of California has a rich history of events, that on a social level, have played major parts in change and perception among the populations as a whole, and in individual communities. History has shown, and will continue to do so in the future, that changes within communities, towns, cities, states, and countries is generally motivated by civil injustice. In researching defining moments , I have chosen the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. The riots of 1992 mark a pivotal point in time for California in regard to social issues and injustices in matters of race and socioeconomics. Following, I will describe the defining event , the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and why I believe what was important that was learned, and how it has impacted California 25 years later. I was in school, ninth grade, and it was early afternoon. The whole class was tense and quiet. It seemed like that old, round clock had stopped ticking. The whole school had the Rodney King verdict on our minds. We knew it was coming today and we all knew they weren t going to punish those officers for beating Rodney King like he was a dog. I couldn t wait to get home. I wanted to be safe at home. My home girls are stressing and passing notes joking about running home while the teacher is reading a magazine. The intercom buzzer rings and the Mrs. Parks voice starts talking. Students, we are now going to release everyone from school early and we want all of you to go home immediately and wait for your ... • 3. Carbon Dioxide As A Chemical Compound Carbon dioxide is a chemical compound. When it is at a certain room temperature it goes into gas form. Everybody such as people and animals release carbon dioxide when breathing out. Also when something is burnt and fire occurs that also release carbon dioxide. How was carbon dioxide created? Carbon dioxide is created when one carbon and two oxygen comes together. As shown below: Another thing is that plants also use carbon dioxide in order to make food. This is known as photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a chemical process that involves sunlight to turn carbon dioxide into sugar that the cells can use as energy. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gas is the reflect radiation that the earth emits, and stop it from being lost into space. This causes the Earth s temperature to be higher than it would be without greenhouse gases. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began around 1750, human activities have contributed a lot to climate change by adding carbon dioxide and among other heat trapping gases into the atmosphere. Some scientists think that greenhouse gases are causing global warming, the rise of Earth s surface temperature. What is Carbon dioxide? Carbon dioxide or CO2 for short is a colorless, odorless, faintly acidic tasting, non flammable gas. It is considered the fourth most abundant gas in the earth s atmosphere. • 5. The Campylobacter Report It is believed that the first report about Campylobacter was back in 1886 by Escherich who observed and described non culturable corkscrew shaped bacteria isolated from the colonic contents of infants who had died as a result of cholera infantum (Escherich, 1886; Skirrow and Butzler, 2000; King and Adams, 2008; Vandamme et al., 2010). Campylobacter identified for the first time in 1906 by John McFadyean and Stewart Stockman, who reported the presence of large numbers of a peculiar organism in the uterine mucus of a pregnant sheep (Skirrow, 2006; Zilbauer et al., 2008). After this in 1913, McFadyean and Stockman isolate these microorganisms from aborted bovine fetuses and successfully cultured for the first time (McFadyean and Stockman, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in 1947, Vicent and his associates isolate the bacteria from pregnant women (Vincent et al., 1947; Zilbauer et al., 2008).It was not until the 1950 s that Elizabeth King first suggested these vibrios could be associated with the human enteric disease. King cultured them from the blood of infected individuals and was the first to study this human disease causing Vibrio species in depth (King, 1957). She observed that they grew at a distinctly higher optimum temperature than the other vibrios they were grouped with and referred to this subgroup as related vibrios (King, 1957). Sebald and Véron formally separated these related vibrios from the Vibrionaceae family and proposed the genus name Campylobacter (Greek meaning, a curved rod) in 1963 (Sebald Véron, 1963). • 6. The Role Of Framing In News Media Framing is something that has been for hundreds of years. This is the way in which certain topics and issues are talked about to try to influence the way we think about an issue. This type of framing is seen on news media every day. Different types of news media may report on issues in different way depending on what the issue is. The framing can be really subtle with the use of different words that can portray two completely different meanings. The issue I will be talking about is immigration and how immigrants are reported in contrasting type of media. Immigration over the last years has become an increasing talking point in politics today. The left and right have contrasting ideas on what should be done about illegal immigration. News media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right leaning sources, like Bill O Reilly, Fox News and many republican politicians, often refer to unlawful immigrants as illegal. This type of frame has a negative connotation for immigrants. An immigrant may be seen as more of a criminal. It s interesting to note that this type of usage of the word is unique to immigration. Drivers that violate the law are never called illegal drivers . This type of frame makes the issue seem more of a cut and dry issue of illegal and legal. Immigration this way becomes a black and white issue. So if one is called an illegal immigrant then he must be a criminal. The expression invites for the easy use of the word criminal. Many articles that use this word also seem to tend to use the word criminal. The word criminal then has an even stronger negative connotation than illegal. The connection between those two words become even stronger when illegal is used as a noun. The noun illegals is only used for immigrants and not any other crime. The connection, thus may be stronger. When it s used as noun the term makes it more of an attack on the person rather than the actions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Doctor Chris Parsons, former Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, explains animal welfare groups accept the use of animals for some human interests like clothing, food, recreational need, or scientific experiments, as long as the animal is free of stress and pain . The influential groups, the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recognize on their website some zoos are beneficial to animals supporting conservation programs, participating in the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and promoting education about the importance of wildlife. However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the Humane Society recommends zoos to be organized around a core mission that educates the public about the needs of the animals and the threats they face . Also, zoos should provide animals with humane care and adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs. Finally, ASPCA indicates, zoos should participate in tightly controlled breeding programs and their display should stress the themes of endangered species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity . Therefore, a comparison of Papa John s financial analysis will be completed by using one of the larger rivals, Domino s Pizza, and one of the smaller pizza chain enterprises, Rave Restaurant Group (Rave). When comparing different organizations of all sizes within an industry, it is feasible to use financial ratios, especially liquidity ratios. Misto s use of lighting enables the viewer to sense different things depending on the brightness and direction of the light. Per data from The Institute of Medicine, over 1000 hospitals closed in the past few years because of the enormous cost associated with operation. There has been an increase in the number of visits to emergency rooms (ERs) to more than 120 million mostly due to those who are uninsured who, as a result, have a lack of access to primary care. As the number of those who are uninsured grows because of the recession so, too, does the community who turns to ER services for their health care needs. Clearly, ER provides a safety net for the medically underserved. With the passage of the healthcare law, the shortage of primary care resources will be more noticeable. And, that means people will resort to ERs to seek care since they cannot access their doctors after usual office hours, on weekends or during holidays. In mid year 2012, there is currently a shortage of 150,000 primary care physicians. And, by 2020, it is projected there will be an additional 50,000 PC physician shortage. Overcoming culture shock is often the biggest challenges that people face, as adapting to a new culture is very difficult. In Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ifemelu, the protagonist, experiences culture shock when she moves to the U.S. from Nigeria, for university. Ifemelu noted that when racism came up on television, black people were supposed to be enraged. Yet when it came up in everyday situations, black people were supposed to be forgiving of racists and allow the white liberals to debate about racism. Personally, I cannot say that I ever experienced anything similar to Ifemelu in terms of race, I have, however, had experiences where I felt out of place and different. When I visited France, I spoke no French and went to stay with a family where only the sons spoke English. As a result, for the 18 days, I spent in France, I only ever heard French and thus felt excluded from countless conversations. Even though I am white like the majority of the population, I still felt out of place, but not inherently discriminated against as a result of my nationality and linguistic abilities. Nevertheless, government touches us all and not just during tax season. For better or worse, governments all over the world form the backbone of society as we know it. For this reason, it becomes relevant for us as citizens and residents to pose certain fundamental questions. The two biggest examples of factions are the left and right sides of the political spectrum. On the other end, the right, you have the conservative people who are determined to uphold established ways of thinking, believe in the importance of self reliance, and believe that government should stay out of social issues in order to protect freedom. What happens when these two large factions do not agree? Absolutely nothing, as demonstrated by today s government. Madison was worried about this problem and asserted that it was necessary for a national government consisting of a single party to exist in order to counteract the polarizing and paralyzing effects of factions among the states. As they act as a further separation of power, factions do have their benefits. However, having the federal government become a more party neutral environment could greatly help to avoid some of the problems we see today; the federal government could keep the states and their factions in check and make sure things actually get ... • 31. Descriptive Essay On Skiing Skiing the Slopes The last minute, go to vacation place Colorado. A destination my family has relied on for many family vacations. The earliest memory that I have of Colorado takes place at the age of maybe three or four years old, and we went there two years in a row on a skiing trip at the Monarch Mountain Ski Resort with my mom s side of the family. There was a bunch of people crammed into two cabins in the mountains. One cabin held me, my parents, my sister Matlyn, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. While the cabin across the river held my grandpa s brother, his wife, kids, and grandkids. Being not old enough to ski by myself, I was required to take a skiing class. For half the day we skied, and then were in a daycare for the rest. It was AWFUL! The daycare part, not the skiing. A girl there who was quite fond of stealing my toys and snacks still haunts my memories of that place. She should know not to take a girls snack. The best part of that vacation was when we went back the next year, and grabbed a brochure/map and there was a picture of me on it from the year before. In the picture I was all bundled up in my coat and the scarf that my mom made for me, and wearing oversized ski goggles that covered my whole face, and beside me was my ski instructor. I WAS FAMOUS! The next time that we were in Colorado, we went to Estes Park and rented a small house to stay in for a week. The owners lived right next door and had a daughter who was about my age and had ... Essay about The Benin Bronzes This essay deals with the nature of a cross cultural encounter between the Benin people and Portuguese traders in the 15th and 16th centuries, which resulted in the depiction of Portuguese figures in Benin brass plaques. It will propose that this contact between people with different cultures was on the basis of mutual regard (Woods, K. 2008, p. 16), and although the Portuguese had qualms about idolatry in Benin it will show that assumptions by Europeans up to the 20th century of the primitive nature of tribal African societies was inaccurate with regard to the Benin people, who had a society based on the succession of the King or Oba , a Royal Family and Nobility. According to Joseph Eboreime, a Nigerian historian, the bronze heads are a visual history of the Benin Royal Family from before 1440 until 1897 (Woods, K. 2008, p. 12). It appears that the bronzes were seen only by the Oba and Royal Court with access to the royal compounds and rooms, during ceremonies commemorating their ancestors (Ben Amos in Woods, K. 2008, p. 12) . It is also unlikely they were seen in situ by the Portuguese traders either (Pereira, D. P. also Pina, R. both in Woods, K. and MacKenzie, R. 2008, p. 33). Finally, the plaques are clear evidence of a mutually beneficial cultural encounter with Portuguese traders in which both parties gained. It could be speculated that the rectilinear form of the plaques arose from Benin craftsmen seeing Portuguese oil paintings, but there is no evidence of this. The plaques, however, do first appear after contact with the Portuguese, following which there was a resurgence in bronze sculptures, probably as a result of the increased wealth and confidence of Benin.
