The Trials Of The War II
After World War II, the victorious associates made a decision to hold a trail for the defeated Nazi
officials. These Trails continued from November 20, 1945 till October 1, 1946. In these Tails,
defendant use Nuremberg Defense, a legal strategy employed by many of the defendants at the
Nuremberg war crimes trials seeking to convict Nazi perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against
humanity committed during the Second World War, as a defense by claiming they were not guilty of
charges against them as they were simply following orders (Rationalwiki). Even though the victors
claimed that they would give the defendant a fair trial, on closer examination anyone can see that in
reality, these trails were biased and were a victor s justice (A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Being a different couldn t make anyone superior or inferior to one another Diversity is our strength,
we say. There is not an American president who would say anything else: We are a country made
stronger by our individuality, by our differences. (Rodriguez). No doubt, Hitler had a lot of followers
and who knows if some or even all of them were forced into this just out of fear. Once they were
committed, they must have realize that they were not getting out of it. Also, the law requires them to
do things even though they did not want to do it which also includes the Holocaust. In from Crito by
Plato, the dialogue of Socrates explain that the law exist as one unit, to break one means to break them
all, and by disobeying the law one can start the anarchy in country. One should never break the law
even they have to sacrifice themselves or take life for it. Some of the accusers had to perform their
deeds because Hitler told them to do so. No one disobey Hitler ever. If they didn t follow Hitler s
order, then they would have committed a crime against him and Germany. Eliminate the Jews and
other people that Hitler and the law requires them to consider those people to be inferior; However,

Essay about Censorship
Censorship The movie industry became a big hit in America after 1910. These movies were silent
movies so therefore; we didn t have the problem with vulgar language. The first spoken movie was in
1927, called The Jazz Singer. At that time, the movie industry was so worried about keeping his or her
audience happy and didn t want to offend anyone. That we didn t have the problems that we have
today. In 1922, William H. Hays founded the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America.
This organization, which later became the Motion Picture Association of America, established a code
to make sure that all movies produced in America followed certain moral standards. Foul language,
nudity, the use of words that had sexual overtones to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number one problem in television today is obscenity. Many people are offended by vulgar
language. Vulgar language should not be allowed on cable television. Another problem is pictures
showing sexual situations. Children do not need to be subjected to this type of television.
The second reason the Motion Picture Code and Rating Program needs to be reconsidered because
many children in today s society are affected by television. Brian Siano says, children spend hours
watching televisions unreal colors and how their fantasy lives are affected by weirdo s (20). Children
are affected in many different ways. Think of all the different types of shows and movies that can hurt
them. Some children become more aggressive as a result of watching violent shows portrayed on
television and in movies. For instance, James P. Comer, M.D., is a Maurice Falk Professor of child
psychiatry at Yale University s Child study center and author of Maggie s American Dream. He states
that there is a correlation between the viewing of violent material and aggressive behavior; that regular
viewers behave more aggressively than occasional viewers (Boyd 01). Studies also say that during a
three hour time slot, on

This will be my greatest achievement. I have maintained the status of honors or dean s list every
semester since enrolling in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I carry a 3.7 GPA and participate in
various clubs. This past spring, I participated in events through Titan Volunteer. Our club made dog
toys for the humane society, helped install fire alarms with the American Red Cross, and even
chaperoned at the local high school dance. I also assist with campus clean up after major social events.
In addition to volunteering, I am an Odyssey Leader; this involves supporting freshmen in their
transition to college life and provides a fellow student as resource for questions and information
regarding campus. I am vice president of a new campus organization focusing on herbal health
remedies and green alternatives for household consumption. In addition to clubs, I plan to participate
in this fall s season for the women s rugby. Aside from balancing school work and extracurricular
activities, I have worked at Georgia Pacific as a student packager and forklift driver the past two
years. This job allowed me to save money for a two credit biology course to the Florida Everglades.
We created individual field journals full of different species and images. It was the trip of a life time. I
hope to travel more throughout my college career; it is vital to education, especially as an

Stamp Act Dbq
Junior Gonzalez The Stamp Act was horrible for the colonists because they didn t have a say in the
stamp act, the tax was used to pay off the money they used in the French and Indian War. The
colonists tried to get rid of the tax collectors but this would result in the colonists destroying their
town, and the colonists boycotted British goods so they had to start making their own clothing or have
them wear the clothing for months. The British bought raw materials from the colonists, then the
British would make something out of the material they bought and then the British would sell it back
the colonists. But since the colonists refused to pay the additional tax, the British didn t want to buy

Heterogenous Mixture Lab
Discussion: In this lab, we needed to determine the percent calcium carbonate in a heterogenous
mixture and determine the molar volume of carbon dioxide gas at 273 K and 760 torr. Calcium
Carbonate is found in many different types of substances and formulations. It is an important
inorganic compound found in the Earth s crust. We also used the idea of standard temperature and
pressure which means that one mole of an ideal gas occupies 22.4 L. Since carbon dioxide is not an
ideal gas, it s molar volume will be different. We need to calculate the CO2 gas evolved from the
reaction be collected, its volume, and the calculation of the mass difference of CaCO3 mixture before
and after the reaction. To calculate the molar volume of CO2 we use the following equation: ... Show

Euthyphro Approach To Divine Command Theory
The Divine Command Theory states that something is morally good because God commands or has
commanded it to be done or is morally evil because God forbids it from being done. So, saying that it
is good to love our neighbors as yourself is basically the equivalent of saying that God commands us
to love our neighbors. It is the same with saying that it is evil to commit murder because God forbids
murder. From that, immediately someone can object to Divine Command Theory by saying that good
and evil become subjective to the notion of God. If good and evil are solely based on the notion of
God, then morality is merely a will to power. Since God is mightier than any of us, all of morality
boils down to it is either His way or nothing.
The alternative to Divine Command Theory is the statement that the basis for morality lies outside of
God and His commands, rather than at the mercy of His whim. This is the approach that is referred to
as the Euthyphro Dilemma. This Euthyphro Dilemma can be stated best as a question: Is an action
morally good because God commands it, or does God command an action because it is morally good?
This question may cause someone to be tempted to abandon Divine Command Theory and instead see
morality as something external to God. By saying that God commands something because it is morally
good threatens the authority and independence of God. If an external principle, in this case the
objective view of morality, is outside of God, then God is therefore

Marker Assisted Breeding
Selective breeding is the process by which humans select organisms with desirable traits and breed
them together so the trait appears in the next generation. The process is repeated over many
generations until the characteristic becomes common. Selective breeding now often uses reproductive
technologies, such as artificial insemination and marker assisted selection, so that the desirable
characteristics of one male can be passed onto many offspring. This increases the rate at which the
desirable trait is passed to progeny. Marker assisted selection is a molecular technique used to screen a
genome for genetic markers that indicate desirable traits. (*1).

In these times, farmers selectively bred sheep to make them grow fleece from nose to their toes and
thicker coats. They did this thinking that the sheep having a heavier fleece would bring them greater
returns. Because the sheep had so much wool, this meant more work for the farmers due to them
having to dag and crutch the sheep where the wool becomes dirty. This added to production costs and
this wool has lower value so farmers have started selectively breeding sheep so they only have wool in
the areas that are going to be worth the most money and get them the best returns possible. Their aim
was to remove all the unnecessary parts of the sheep and fleece to create sheep that were more
productive and easier and cheaper to maintain easy care sheep. (3*). Easy care sheep have been
selectively bred to have the traits of bare backside, bare belly, bare legs, short tail and bare head.
These traits, such as bare backside and short tail reduce dags which therefore reduces the risk of them
getting fly strike, flies are attracted to the dags. Flystrike occurs when flies lay maggots in the fleece
and then move onto the skin and damage it. The bare backside and short tail can minimise the risk of
this and therefore reduce the time and cost farmers may have to take to deal with this

Age Discrimination At The Workplace
Age Discrimination in the Workplace
American workforce is getting older. Fact, in between 1970 to 1991, the workforce number over the
age of 40 in the U.S. has increased from 39,689,000 to 53,940,000. Because of that, the legislative and
judicial developments in the age discrimination in employment have occurred (1). The baby boomer
generation Americans born between 1946 and 1964 represents more than seventy million workers in
the U.S. workplace, and that around 50 percent of the whole workforce. The whole baby boomer
generation since 2006 has falls under the protection of the federal laws against acts of discrimination
based of age (ADEA) (2). In 2011 more than 40 million people in the United States are ages 65 and
older. Moreover, this number will increase to 89 million and that is more than double by 2050. Age
discrimination is continuing, as the workforce is growing old (3). A study by the federal Bureau of
Labor Statistics shows that the older workers unemployed longer than younger (4). Age discrimination
is harmful not only to the individuals who experience it. In 2004 alone, the cost of negotiated
settlements of federal age discrimination complaints totaled $69 million . Age discrimination is
possibly the most damaging of the various cases of discrimination that occur in the workplace.
According to Collins English Dictionary, ageism is the discrimination regarding to the age, especially
against the elderly. People who are in their middle of

Star Trek s Influence On American Culture
On September 8, 1966, television audiences went on their first voyage with the Starship Enterprise
and its crew. The show lasted three years and consisted of only 79 original episodes but went on to
become one of the most culturally and socially influential shows in history. Earlier science fiction
shows were purely for entertainment but Star Trek changed the way people thought of science fiction
and raised the bar for future science fiction shows with standards of quality and mature themes. The
Star Trek franchise has become part of the American culture, spanning five decades and producing

In the episode the crew is held captive by aliens with telekinetic powers and under their control
Captain Kirk kisses Lieutenant Uhura. It was television s first Black interracial kiss. The show s
producers were particularly concerned about reaction of viewers in the South but allowed the scene to
air anyway, making television history. Actors Whoopie Goldberg and Astronaut Mae Jemison each
credit Nichell Nickols protrayel of Lieutenant Uhura with inspiring them to believe that a Black
woman could hold a position of power and authority. Both Goldberg and Jemison went on to appear in
later versions of Star Trek.
Star Trek did contain racism but it was directed towards the safe target of Mr. Spock the logical,
pointy eared Vulcan. During almost every episode Dr. McCoy or one of the other cast members made
comments about his race, green blood or reliance on pure logic to solve problems. The show was able
to allow this form of racism because Leonard Nimoy was white and portrayed an alien from the planet
Vulcan. His character provided an outlet for the racist attitudes so prevalent in the

By contrast, how were Southern white women characterized? * One of the most standout images of
black women in white slavery America was of a woman who ran entirely off of her sex drive, a
Jezebel. A jezebel was considered to be the complete opposite of a proper white woman. She was
thought to have little to none religious affiliation. A jezebel took no instances to cover her body, and

Because of her expertise in all domestic matters, she was the premier house servant and all others
were her subordinates. This, therefore, is the broad outline of Mammy. She was a woman completely
dedicated to the white family, especially to the children of that family. She was the house servant who
was given complete charge of domestic management. She served also as friend and advisor. She was,
in short, a surrogate mistress and mother, giving into the modern day nanny. The Mammy image is
fully as misleading as that of Jezebel. Both images have enough instances in reality to lend credibility
to stereotypes that would profoundly affect black women. For instance, Black women served in all
capacities, from cook to waiting maid, or seamstress. In very wealthy Southern households there were
many female servants. Children grew very attached to Mammy, as she was seen as their primary
caregiver. Being a Mammy was idyllic for a slave women, for they were given better care and the
work wasn t as tasking. Hard as cleaning, cooking, sewing, dairy work, and child care were, they were
not as physically taxing as a sun up to sun down day in the cropbe it sugar, rice, or cotton. On the
whole, house women could expect to eat better, dress better, and get better medical care than field
women, if only because they were more familiar to the master and mistress, not to mention nearer to
the kitchen and potential handmedowns. Still

Informative Speech On Chemotherapy

As we know patients of cancer take chemotherapy and some of them die and they didn t heal.
Chemotherapy is the use of one or more anticancer (cytotoxic) drugs to damage cancer cells so they
can t grow and reproduce. Chemotherapy is most effective on cells that are actively growing and
dividing. Because many cancer cells tend to grow and divide quickly, they are sensitive to the effects
of chemotherapy.
After cancer patients receive chemotherapy, they sometimes need a sedative

Drosophila Melanogaster Lab Report Essay
Introduction
In most kitchens the small flies that are found are Drosophila Melanogaster also called fruit fly. They
are often brought in by ripened tomatoes, grapes and other perishable items from the garden.
Drosophila melanogaster is a little two winged insect about 3mm long two winged insect that belongs
to the Diptera, the order of the flies. The drosophila egg is about half a millimeter long. Fertilization
takes about one day the embryo to develop and hatch into a worm like larva. The larva eats and grows
continuously, after two days as a third in star larva; it moults one more time to form an immobile
pupa. Over the next four days, the body is completely remodeled to give the adult winged form, which
then hatches from the pupal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some larva containing vials had hatched into flies. Counting of the flies began at this point. As flies
started to grow, at different rates for each vial, with in the first seven days after all larva had hatched
the flies were counted. The procedure was done according to theDrosophila manual (45 2620)

F1 Predictions
For our first generation (F1) of flies we chose to cross apterous (+) females and white eye (w) males.
We predicted that the mutation would be sex linked recessive. So if the female was the sex with the
mutation then all females would be wild type heterozygous. Heterozygous is a term used when the two
genes for a trait are opposite. The males would all be white eye since they only have one X
chromosome. If the males were the sex that had the mutation then all the flies would be wild type but
the females would be heterozygous.
F1 Outcomes
From the cross white eye males with wild females, our results were we got both phenotypes in the
males as well as the females to be wild type.
F2 Predictions
Based upon observation of the F1 generation, we hypothesize that the inheritance of the white eye (W)
mutation is sex linked and recessive wild type.
For the F2 generation the phenotype that was obtained is as followed. See Figure1.

Nurse Ratched, known as Big Nurse is the head nurse in the asylum and her role is to keep order and
control in the ward. She is a master of manipulation. In the passage on page 55, the metaphor referring
to the therapy meeting as bunch of chickens at a peckin party uses an animal motif to further
emphasize the inhuman way Big Nurse retains control. The alliteration peckin party and blood and
bones (Kesey, 55) underscores the seriousness of the meeting. Harding is the chicken in this peckin

The peckin party is a way to keep order by singling out and humiliating the individual until they have

are Peckin Parties, Our dear Miss Ratched? Our sweet, smiling, tender angel of mercy, Mother
Ratched, a ball cutter? Why, friend, that s most unlikely (57). Miss Ratched s job is to keep order in
the ward at all costs. She does not act out of pure obligation to do her job well, but enforces her
authority even at the expense of the patient s progress. Miss Ratched s treatment of Billy is proof of
how she casts aside patient s advancement and wellbeing to ensure strict adherence to the rules. Billy
desires to live a normal life but Miss Ratched squashes his dreams and keeps him under her thumb.

What Is The Truth That Scout Learned In To Kill A Mockingbird
One truth Scout learns is that not all people are what they seem. For the entirety of the book, Scout
perceived Arthur Radley as a terrifying murderer. When she finally meets Arthur, she realizes she was
wrong. Scout could not understand Arthur because she had not climbed into his skin and walked
around in it (Lee 39). This truth is exceptionally important because in high school there is the
possibility to make many new friends and enemies. One must know that people are not always what
they seem. You should not be quick to judge because you do not know what is going on in their life.
While reading this novel, I pictured Atticus Finch as a younger version of my grandfather. The

A Personal Legend In Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist
What is a personal legend? In The Alchemist the king of Salem says that one s personal legend is
...what you have always wanted to accomplish (21). This novel is about a young boy who travels the
desert, pursuing his personal legend, trying to find his treasure. Meanwhile, he learns how to connect
with the world and many other valuable lessons, including his own personal legend. Paulo Coelho
writes about person legends all throughout the book. He doesn t just talk about Santiago s personal
legend, he talks about many other other too. He starts out by writing about other s personal legends
and how they never followed their dreams or tries to achieve it. He uses the baker in the plaza as an
example. He tells the reader about the baker when the old man points at him and tells Santiago: When
he was a child, that man wanted to travel, too. But he decided first to buy his bakery and put some
money aside. When he s an old man, he s going to spend a month in Africa. He never realized that
people are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of (22 23)
This is the first example of personal legend that Coelho uses. The baker never followed his personal
legend because he opened a bakery. This is not the only time Coelho showed someone failing or not
going after his or her dream. He also talks about a crystal merchant who didn t achieve his dream
either. As Santiago travels through the desert trying to achieve his personal legend he meets many new

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
In A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author introduces a small
family whose life seems to be difficult. This story is a very good example of magical realism. It has
many qualities that show this. For example, it is a reality based situation that shows a deeper meaning
and Gabriel Marquez does a perfect job of making a real life situation into something magical. In
Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings it shows readers that many appearances are
often mislead. Throughout this story readers are told how dark and gloomy the weather has been. The
author uses Imagery to put a clear picture in the reader s mind. For example, Gabriel says The world
has been sad since Tuesday. (Marquez, 431) Marquez ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are shown just how much people are obsessed with the unexplainable events that happen in life. The

neighborhood in front of the chicken coop having fun with the angel, without the slightest reverence,
tossing him things to eat through the openings in the wires as if he weren t a supernatural creature but
circus animal . (Marquez, 432) The villagers were throwing stuff at him and burning him with

The Discovery Of Its Effects On The Body
B nCreatine was first found in 1832 by a French scientist named Michel Eugene Chevreul. This
discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in animals.
He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus Von Liebug
confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During his research he
also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic counterparts.
Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In 1923, the first
research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was an increase in
their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight increased slowly over
the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that humans can retain the storage of
creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during the period of a week. The weight
gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come to a conclusion that it has an
anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very expensive for researchers so
they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This was successfully done in the
laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed that creatine guarantees that
nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles to recover faster. Within this

Legalizing Marijuana Will Decreased Crime Essay
Marijuana is the cause of much commotion and debating, as the question of legalization becomes

Since 1982, there has been a 160 increase in inmate population. One can only imagine what that
number is today. Most of this increase is attributed to drug violators, such as marijuana dealers and
buyers. Sadly, this number will only continue to rise (Potter 1998).
1991 was the most murderous year in the United States since 1972, and police estimated that forty
percent of these homicides were drug related (Potter 1998). Legalizing hemp and other drugs would
deter future criminal acts, therefore slowly, but effectively lessening crime. By legalizing marijuana,
the dealer would be eliminated and therefore crime would be reduced.
Legalizing drugs would also increase countries revenue. During prohibition, alcohol use was still
rampant. People were still drinking, only because it was illegal. In the US, the 21st amendment
annulled prohibition and alcohol taxes were increased. The same thing should be done with marijuana
and other illegal drugs today. The drugs should be heavily taxed to increase revenue. The drugs could
be made by the same companies who make such things as aspirin, so the quality would be assured no
poisons or adulterants. Sterile hypodermic needles could be readily available at drug stores, thus
curbing the spread of diseases such as AIDS, and hepatitis. These could be taxed densely because the
user will be guaranteed of getting clean drugs . Legalizing alcohol did not

Honors US History I: Summer Reading Assignment Chapter Summary Questions Preface: The
Generation 1. According to Ellis s preface, explain what is so phenomenal about the founding of the
United States? One reason why the founding of the US is so phenomenal is because the founding
fathers were able to create a nation with a government, out of people who were against any type of
political power (due to all previous corrupted rulers). There were also many people who were against
the idea of a band of national advocates. (Ellis 9). People divided and scattered came together as a

4. Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to build a nation?
In your opinion, which problem was most pressing? Explain. One problem was that no man had ever
created a republican government with a country as large as the US; so no higher authorities had faith
in the creation of this republican nation. Another apparent obstacle was that the legacy of the
Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment of governmental
authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority. Also, the states in the
new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together (other than wars). Lastly, there
were many black peoples growing rapidly amongst racist whites. In my opinion, the contradiction
between the legacy of the Revolution and building a nation with an authority strikes as the most
pressing because the people the people as a whole become angry and stubborn when something they
have fought/are fighting for is crushed. Chapter 1: The Duel 5. According to Ellis s explanation, why
did Hamilton and Burr duel in the first place? Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel, and Hamilton
accepted it with all his pride and honor. Burr was justified in challenging Hamilton because of their

Tale Of The Shoe Internal Conflict
The Tale of the Shoe :
The Tale of a Struggle Within
The passage from Emma Donoghue s, The Tale of the Shoe, advances the idea that the struggle
between good and evil does not have to be presented through physical entities that it can be developed
through an internal conflict, which is shown through the use of agency and sensory experience.
In the well known Cinderella story the antagonists are the evil stepmother and her two daughters, an
external force that attempts to cause suffering for and to control Cinderella. Donoghue s version of the
story argues that this perception of evil is not the only one that exists that evil can come from an inner
source. This is expressed via the manipulation of agency. Although the story is told in third person
limited, the agency of other forces seeps into the narrative. The antagonists take the form of voices.
The voices become a character of their own they have the ability to ask questions and scold the
narrator, They asked why I was still alive (Donoghue 2). These voices force the protagonist to perform
the traditional chores that Cinderella does, Nobody made me do the things...The shrill ... Show more

The pain is caused by the evil within her and this restricts her. This restriction is seen with her speech,
Every word that came out of my mouth limped away like a toad (Donoghue 1). The fact that the story
opens with a line about the sensation of feeling or touch, Till she came it was all cold (Donoghue 1)
foreshadows that the she who comes will right all the wrongs with the protagonists touch or senses.
The evil within the narrator can only be solved with the help of the woman, who evokes the good part
of the senses. Sensory experience is re established as helpful with the sight of beauty and goodness,
from the woman from the fire, Her eyes had flames in their centers, and her eyebrows were silvered
with ash (Donoghue

Realism And The Theory Of Realism
Introduction
The idea of Realism was unofficially was created in fifth century BC by Thucydides, and continued
through Niccolo Machiavelli. This lead to the first official IR theory of realism in Thomas Hobbes,
amd Hans Morgenthau, known as Classical Realist. From there Classical Realism evolved to the ideas
of Kenneth Waltz, which brought along the ideas of neo realism or structural realism theory. Then
came offensive, defensive, and neoclassical realism. Overall the main idea of realism is defined by
internationalrelations.org as when looking at the political system, or more specifically, the
international system, realists focus their ideas about how international relations work based upon the
concepts of power and security. ( Realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ranges from military presence to business presence. These countries want a piece of Afghanistan
politics. This analysis of Realism will use this situation as an example of why these countries are
involving themselves in Afghanistan, to better understand the theory.
System and Power
A system, from a neorealist point of view is described by Waltz as A system is composed of a structure
and of interacting units. The structure is the system wide component that makes it possible to think of
the system as a whole. Waltz furthermore goes into how to define a structure A structure is defined by
the arrangement of its parts. (Waltz, 1979) Bringing the neorealism theory that looking at politics,
structure is the arrangement of the states, not the collection of them. This leads in to the neorealism
idea that there is no central authority, and the world depends on balance (Sterling Folker, 2013). That
the one thing structure or balance depends on is the states, not NGOs or other actors. From a classical
realism perspective according to Morgenthau s It is a characteristic aspect of all politics, domestic as
well as international, that frequently its basic manifestations do not appear as what they actually are
manifestations of a struggle for power . (Morgenthau, Thompson Clinton, 2010) Morgenthau is saying
that states are power seekers, and strive for dominance which is

Dulce Et Decorum Est By Jessie Pope Analysis
War Poetry Comparative Essay
The saying dulce et decorum est pro patria mori comes from the roman poet Horace in Ode III.2.13, it
translates back to how sweet and fitting it is to die for one s country. When Dulce Et Decorum Est was
first written in 1917, it was directed at the poet Jessie Pope, then the dedication changed to a certain
poetess . However, this dedication was never published as Wilfred Owen wanted the poem to reach
everyone and not just Pope. Pope was a famous WW1 poet best known for her pro war, motivational
poems, her most famous being Who s for the Game . The themes in Dulce Et Decorum Est (DEDE)
are war, death and patriotism. Who s for the Game (WFTG), has the same themes of war and
patriotism, but also sports and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patriotism is a large part in any piece of war poetry, the two we are analysing show to very different
beliefs. WFTG is very patriotic almost jingoistic whereas DEDE is cynical towards patriotism. In
WFTG lines 16 17 Pope writes Your country is up to her neck in a fight // and she s looking and
calling for you with an emphasis on you . Most lines in this poem start with who ll and then finally in
the last two lines of the poem it changes from who to you. No longer who will do it, who will save
people, now it s changed you will do it. Linking back to the patriotism in these lines. It personifies the
country, as a damsel in distress figure. Something the man can save, become a hero. But not only this,
the use of your this gets the reader to believe that England is their country and they have to protect
what s theirs. Thus using patriotism to get men sign up for the war without them knowing it. As
mentioned earlier Owens view of patriotism in DEDE are very different from Pope s, almost the exact
opposite. This, however, was probably due to Owens own experience in war, seeing the suffering that
he writes about in Dulce Et Decorum Est . Much like Pope, Owens last lines show his true feeling
when it comes to patriotism. These lines are most likely aimed at Pope, the lines being My friend, you
will not tell with such high zest // To children ardent for some desperate glory // The old lie: Dulce est
decorum est // Pro patria mori. The words in this extract are so harsh and bitter. The word desperate
implies the war is pathetic, not real glory, a pathetic glory. The patronising use of friend really shows
the reader that this poem is not aimed at them but someone else. Owen is saying to Pope how can you
tell these boys, who are so excited for this great war, so prepared to die, that it is sweet and fitting to
die, for your country, when this is what death is in the war. How can this be

Therefore, the individual s responsibility is to take care of the earth they live in. for instance, taking
care of family and friend and others with dignity is a way to show sign of our respect for the god, who

Promotion of Peace
Most commonly heard catholic teaching is about the peace, concept that is action orientated and about
loving others (Catholic Charities, 2016). Promotion of peace involves peace and mutual respects
between people and the nations across the world (Catholic Charities, 2016). Therefore, catholic
teachings have a close relationship between peace and justice. When individuals and nations keep the
peace, society will flourish.
Participation
All individuals have a right to participate in the education, politic, economy and cultural life of society
(Catholic Charities, 2016). It is a fundamental demand of justice system and the requirement for a
human dignity that is assured for everyone in society to participate in the community (Catholic
Charities, 2016). Moreover, it is wrong for someone or group of people to be excluded from
participating social activities, treated unfairly or not be able to participate in society (Catholic

Wealth also plays a major role and serves as prerequisite for participation in public offices (Blackwell,

The two states are similar in that both are easily influenced by rich landowners in the cities.
Aristocrats had a higher say in matters of state. Also, both the Athenian council and Spartan Gerousia

The Spartan Gerousia is similar to the Athenian Areopagus. They determine what issue is presented at

Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use
of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to
perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the
inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were
given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living
conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian
control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though
many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated
and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on
the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with
a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the
war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of
the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English

Analysis Of The Book Stonewall
Stonewall: Breaking Out In The Fights For Gay Rights by Ann Bausum In the book Stonewall:
Breaking Out In the Fights For Gay Rights, author Ann Bausum starts the book off by going into a
complete and brutal overview on how gay people were treated in a time before the Stonewall Riots.
She then goes on to cover how exactly the first riot and the ones coming directly after happened, using
sources from both sides of the conflicts, including police officers and people who had been run from
the Stonewall inn. She continues by going into the aftereffects of the riots and into the AIDS crisis that
hit the community nearly two decades after. The book is ended on a hopeful note, saying that the
future can only look up from here for the queer community. Ann Bausum, while straight, did a very
large amount of research before writing this book. She has a three page bibliography at the end of the
book, listing all of her sources and where she got all the quotes that were littered throughout the book.
She mentions in the book that since she is not Queer, some parts of the novel may not be truly
accurate because she is not in the community. This source fits very well into my research as a starting
place. I did not know a large about about the Stonewall Riots previously, so this short somewhat
overview of the situation was very necessary for me to read so I could get a grasp on the situation

What Would Happen If We Have Full Freedom Research Paper
What would happen if we had full freedom? What would need to happen to have full freedom?
Freedom means we are free and able to do whatever we desire. We do have freedom as of now, but it
is limited. We have rules and laws in place that are meant to be followed. They are here to protect the
well being of everyone and thing. These laws are not necessarily bad but it just doesn t allow full
freedom to come forth. There are some laws that have been revoked because we realized they were
just plain wrong or it put too much restraint on freedom. The laws we have are not perfect but we
know and allow it because of the benefits. There are some cons to the limits we put on ourselves but it

We need to improve before we improve the world. Once we do that then we would be able to properly
work together for peace and freedom. To do this would mean that other countries improved
themselves too. When this finally happens and we think we are good enough to work with each other
we will try. As we try to work together we realize we can t.
Why? Why can t we work together when we all bettered ourselves. The reason is because we all
improved on ourselves but we did in different ways. We improved in our own beliefs and ideas.
Nothing would have changed we would have our freedom than has been bettered for us not for the
entire world. The conflicts would still be there just like before. The only thing we can do is accept that
we will never have peace between everybody.
The freedom we have is still limited by peace. That doesn t mean we should keep things the same we
still should improve ourselves for our future. We just need to know everyone doesn t have the same
attitude. When we mention freedom everyone thinks of it differently. Our nation definition of freedom
is different than others that why we fight for it. We still fight for our limited freedom. It may be

Essay on The Cheating Hearts of Men
The Cheating Hearts of Men
In writing this paper, I am setting out to answer a question that has been plaguing women for many
years. Why do men cheat on us? Is it something us women do that causes it? Is it something they are
taught is ok somewhere along the way? Does it have to do with the fact that their genitalia are on the
outside? Or is there no logical explanation in the universe for it? (I m leaning towards the last one, but
hey, that s just me.) Men always seem to have an explanation for their behavior, or more likely, an
excuse. These excuses have been known to range from blaming the woman they are cheating on to
trying to get back at her for something. Having more than just some personal experience with being
cheated on, I m ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I learned from this is that men will cheat as long as they can justify that they are not doing
something wrong because it is not their fault.
For the next part of my research, I consulted some magazines that I had around my house. I found an
article in the January 2004 issue of Cosmopolitan that was helpful in explaining one of the theories on
why men cheat. According to Shirley Glass, PhD, many men who cheat come from chauvinistic
cultures or families where their fathers cheated. Another point brought up by Glass in this article is
that men feel that as long as they do not love the other woman, that it is simply a physical thing, then
they are not really cheating (Koli). I guess what Glass is saying is that cheating, like abuse or
alcoholism, can be a cycle that runs in families. If a man grows up watching his father cheat on his
mother, then he is being taught that it is an acceptable practice. Also, men feel that if they do not break
their emotional promise to their significant other, then they are not doing anything wrong. While I
think the first one is understandable and a valid point, I feel the second is yet another excuse men use
to justify an unjustifiable action.
Still not satisfied with the answers I had, I went looking for more. I accessed the ProQuest search
engine through the Penn State library system in order to search for more articles. The first article,
which was originally published in the April 2001 issue

Theme Of Courage In Beowulf
In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, can be seen as one of the most prime and
pure examples of an epic hero due to his almighty courage. What is an epic hero without courage?
Well, not a epic hero at all. Beowulf has the superhuman strength, glory and fame, but he cannot
embody those characteristics if he does not have courage to drive him primarily. Initially, the reader
can get a taste of Beowulf epicness when he heavily boasts about his battle at sea with Breca. Due to
jealousy, Unferth calls him out for his loss in the thrashing waves, yet Beowulf shows no
embarrassment and even exploits Unferth for his lack of braveness as he claims, The fact is, Unferth,
if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be, Grendel would never have gotten away
with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horror everywhere (Heaney
590 594). He makes it clear that no one can deteriorate or match the courage that he beholds. While he
the battle is brought up, Beowulf states that Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares a man that it has
not already marked (572 573). This is inferring that if one hasn t died yet due to fate, they can
continue living their life through courage. This foreshadows the mindset of Beowulf and how he holds
the theory of bravery close in his morals. As Beowulf goes on to explain this rigorous battle, he claims
that not only did he swim for seven days in full armor, but also nonchalantly slayed nine sea

  • 9. Euthyphro Approach To Divine Command Theory The Divine Command Theory states that something is morally good because God commands or has commanded it to be done or is morally evil because God forbids it from being done. So, saying that it is good to love our neighbors as yourself is basically the equivalent of saying that God commands us to love our neighbors. It is the same with saying that it is evil to commit murder because God forbids murder. From that, immediately someone can object to Divine Command Theory by saying that good and evil become subjective to the notion of God. If good and evil are solely based on the notion of God, then morality is merely a will to power. Since God is mightier than any of us, all of morality boils down to it is either His way or nothing. The alternative to Divine Command Theory is the statement that the basis for morality lies outside of God and His commands, rather than at the mercy of His whim. This is the approach that is referred to as the Euthyphro Dilemma. This Euthyphro Dilemma can be stated best as a question: Is an action morally good because God commands it, or does God command an action because it is morally good? This question may cause someone to be tempted to abandon Divine Command Theory and instead see morality as something external to God. By saying that God commands something because it is morally good threatens the authority and independence of God. If an external principle, in this case the objective view of morality, is outside of God, then God is therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Marker Assisted Breeding Selective breeding is the process by which humans select organisms with desirable traits and breed them together so the trait appears in the next generation. The process is repeated over many generations until the characteristic becomes common. Selective breeding now often uses reproductive technologies, such as artificial insemination and marker assisted selection, so that the desirable characteristics of one male can be passed onto many offspring. This increases the rate at which the desirable trait is passed to progeny. Marker assisted selection is a molecular technique used to screen a genome for genetic markers that indicate desirable traits. (*1). We had two challenges, says Dr Scobie. In these times, farmers selectively bred sheep to make them grow fleece from nose to their toes and thicker coats. They did this thinking that the sheep having a heavier fleece would bring them greater returns. Because the sheep had so much wool, this meant more work for the farmers due to them having to dag and crutch the sheep where the wool becomes dirty. This added to production costs and this wool has lower value so farmers have started selectively breeding sheep so they only have wool in the areas that are going to be worth the most money and get them the best returns possible. Their aim was to remove all the unnecessary parts of the sheep and fleece to create sheep that were more productive and easier and cheaper to maintain easy care sheep. (3*). Easy care sheep have been selectively bred to have the traits of bare backside, bare belly, bare legs, short tail and bare head. These traits, such as bare backside and short tail reduce dags which therefore reduces the risk of them getting fly strike, flies are attracted to the dags. Flystrike occurs when flies lay maggots in the fleece and then move onto the skin and damage it. The bare backside and short tail can minimise the risk of this and therefore reduce the time and cost farmers may have to take to deal with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By contrast, how were Southern white women characterized? * One of the most standout images of black women in white slavery America was of a woman who ran entirely off of her sex drive, a Jezebel. Because of her expertise in all domestic matters, she was the premier house servant and all others were her subordinates. This, therefore, is the broad outline of Mammy. She served also as friend and advisor. She was, in short, a surrogate mistress and mother, giving into the modern day nanny. The Mammy image is fully as misleading as that of Jezebel. Both images have enough instances in reality to lend credibility to stereotypes that would profoundly affect black women. For instance, Black women served in all capacities, from cook to waiting maid, or seamstress. In very wealthy Southern households there were many female servants. Children grew very attached to Mammy, as she was seen as their primary caregiver. Being a Mammy was idyllic for a slave women, for they were given better care and the work wasn t as tasking. We predicted that the mutation would be sex linked recessive. So if the female was the sex with the mutation then all females would be wild type heterozygous. Heterozygous is a term used when the two genes for a trait are opposite. The males would all be white eye since they only have one X chromosome. If the males were the sex that had the mutation then all the flies would be wild type but the females would be heterozygous. F1 Outcomes From the cross white eye males with wild females, our results were we got both phenotypes in the males as well as the females to be wild type. This discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in animals. He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus Von Liebug confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During his research he also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic counterparts. Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In 1923, the first research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was an increase in their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight increased slowly over the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that humans can retain the storage of creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during the period of a week. The weight gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come to a conclusion that it has an anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very expensive for researchers so they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This was successfully done in the laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed that creatine guarantees that nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles to recover faster. Within this ... Another apparent obstacle was that the legacy of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment of governmental authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority. Also, the states in the new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together (other than wars). Tale Of The Shoe Internal Conflict The Tale of the Shoe : The Tale of a Struggle Within The passage from Emma Donoghue s, The Tale of the Shoe, advances the idea that the struggle between good and evil does not have to be presented through physical entities that it can be developed through an internal conflict, which is shown through the use of agency and sensory experience. In the well known Cinderella story the antagonists are the evil stepmother and her two daughters, an external force that attempts to cause suffering for and to control Cinderella. Donoghue s version of the story argues that this perception of evil is not the only one that exists that evil can come from an inner source. This is expressed via the manipulation of agency. Although the story is told in third person limited, the agency of other forces seeps into the narrative. The antagonists take the form of voices. The evil within the narrator can only be solved with the help of the woman, who evokes the good part of the senses. • 31. Realism And The Theory Of Realism Introduction The idea of Realism was unofficially was created in fifth century BC by Thucydides, and continued through Niccolo Machiavelli. This lead to the first official IR theory of realism in Thomas Hobbes, amd Hans Morgenthau, known as Classical Realist. From there Classical Realism evolved to the ideas of Kenneth Waltz, which brought along the ideas of neo realism or structural realism theory. Then came offensive, defensive, and neoclassical realism. Overall the main idea of realism is defined by internationalrelations.org as when looking at the political system, or more specifically, the international system, realists focus their ideas about how international relations work based upon the concepts of power and security. System and Power A system, from a neorealist point of view is described by Waltz as A system is composed of a structure and of interacting units. The structure is the system wide component that makes it possible to think of the system as a whole. Waltz furthermore goes into how to define a structure A structure is defined by the arrangement of its parts. (Waltz, 1979) Bringing the neorealism theory that looking at politics, structure is the arrangement of the states, not the collection of them. This leads in to the neorealism idea that there is no central authority, and the world depends on balance (Sterling Folker, 2013). That the one thing structure or balance depends on is the states, not NGOs or other actors. From a classical realism perspective according to Morgenthau s It is a characteristic aspect of all politics, domestic as well as international, that frequently its basic manifestations do not appear as what they actually are manifestations of a struggle for power . • 32. Dulce Et Decorum Est By Jessie Pope Analysis War Poetry Comparative Essay The saying dulce et decorum est pro patria mori comes from the roman poet Horace in Ode III.2.13, it translates back to how sweet and fitting it is to die for one s country. When Dulce Et Decorum Est was first written in 1917, it was directed at the poet Jessie Pope, then the dedication changed to a certain poetess . However, this dedication was never published as Wilfred Owen wanted the poem to reach everyone and not just Pope. Pope was a famous WW1 poet best known for her pro war, motivational poems, her most famous being Who s for the Game . The themes in Dulce Et Decorum Est (DEDE) are war, death and patriotism. Patriotism is a large part in any piece of war poetry, the two we are analysing show to very different beliefs. WFTG is very patriotic almost jingoistic whereas DEDE is cynical towards patriotism. In WFTG lines 16 17 Pope writes Your country is up to her neck in a fight // and she s looking and calling for you with an emphasis on you . Most lines in this poem start with who ll and then finally in the last two lines of the poem it changes from who to you. No longer who will do it, who will save people, now it s changed you will do it. Linking back to the patriotism in these lines. It personifies the country, as a damsel in distress figure. Something the man can save, become a hero. But not only this, the use of your this gets the reader to believe that England is their country and they have to protect what s theirs. Thus using patriotism to get men sign up for the war without them knowing it. As mentioned earlier Owens view of patriotism in DEDE are very different from Pope s, almost the exact opposite. This, however, was probably due to Owens own experience in war, seeing the suffering that he writes about in Dulce Et Decorum Est . Much like Pope, Owens last lines show his true feeling when it comes to patriotism. These lines are most likely aimed at Pope, the lines being My friend, you will not tell with such high zest // To children ardent for some desperate glory // The old lie: Dulce est decorum est // Pro patria mori. The words in this extract are so harsh and bitter. The word desperate implies the war is pathetic, not real glory, a pathetic glory. The patronising use of friend really shows the reader that this poem is not aimed at them but someone else. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Analysis Of The Book Stonewall Stonewall: Breaking Out In The Fights For Gay Rights by Ann Bausum In the book Stonewall: Breaking Out In the Fights For Gay Rights, author Ann Bausum starts the book off by going into a complete and brutal overview on how gay people were treated in a time before the Stonewall Riots. She then goes on to cover how exactly the first riot and the ones coming directly after happened, using sources from both sides of the conflicts, including police officers and people who had been run from the Stonewall inn. She continues by going into the aftereffects of the riots and into the AIDS crisis that hit the community nearly two decades after. The book is ended on a hopeful note, saying that the future can only look up from here for the queer community. Ann Bausum, while straight, did a very large amount of research before writing this book. She has a three page bibliography at the end of the book, listing all of her sources and where she got all the quotes that were littered throughout the book. She mentions in the book that since she is not Queer, some parts of the novel may not be truly accurate because she is not in the community. This source fits very well into my research as a starting place. • 43. Essay on The Cheating Hearts of Men The Cheating Hearts of Men In writing this paper, I am setting out to answer a question that has been plaguing women for many years. Why do men cheat on us? Is it something us women do that causes it? Is it something they are taught is ok somewhere along the way? Does it have to do with the fact that their genitalia are on the outside? Or is there no logical explanation in the universe for it? (I m leaning towards the last one, but hey, that s just me.) Men always seem to have an explanation for their behavior, or more likely, an excuse. These excuses have been known to range from blaming the woman they are cheating on to trying to get back at her for something. Having more than just some personal experience with being cheated on, I m ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I learned from this is that men will cheat as long as they can justify that they are not doing something wrong because it is not their fault. For the next part of my research, I consulted some magazines that I had around my house. I found an article in the January 2004 issue of Cosmopolitan that was helpful in explaining one of the theories on why men cheat. According to Shirley Glass, PhD, many men who cheat come from chauvinistic cultures or families where their fathers cheated. Another point brought up by Glass in this article is that men feel that as long as they do not love the other woman, that it is simply a physical thing, then they are not really cheating (Koli). I guess what Glass is saying is that cheating, like abuse or alcoholism, can be a cycle that runs in families. If a man grows up watching his father cheat on his mother, then he is being taught that it is an acceptable practice. Also, men feel that if they do not break their emotional promise to their significant other, then they are not doing anything wrong. While I think the first one is understandable and a valid point, I feel the second is yet another excuse men use to justify an unjustifiable action. Still not satisfied with the answers I had, I went looking for more. I accessed the ProQuest search engine through the Penn State library system in order to search for more articles. • 44. Theme Of Courage In Beowulf In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, can be seen as one of the most prime and pure examples of an epic hero due to his almighty courage. What is an epic hero without courage? Well, not a epic hero at all. Beowulf has the superhuman strength, glory and fame, but he cannot embody those characteristics if he does not have courage to drive him primarily. Initially, the reader can get a taste of Beowulf epicness when he heavily boasts about his battle at sea with Breca. Due to jealousy, Unferth calls him out for his loss in the thrashing waves, yet Beowulf shows no embarrassment and even exploits Unferth for his lack of braveness as he claims, The fact is, Unferth, if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be, Grendel would never have gotten away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horror everywhere (Heaney 590 594). He makes it clear that no one can deteriorate or match the courage that he beholds. While he the battle is brought up, Beowulf states that Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares a man that it has not already marked (572 573). This is inferring that if one hasn t died yet due to fate, they can continue living their life through courage. This foreshadows the mindset of Beowulf and how he holds the theory of bravery close in his morals.
