What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?
 The genre of music for my chosen magazine is Soul
and R’n’B. In order for me to have my magazine
effectively distributed, I will need to choose the
correct media institution that will publish my
magazine. I have researched and found three
publishing houses that may have an opportunity
to publish my magazine. These are the following;
Bauer Media, The Egmont Group and Rhinegold
Publishing Ltd. Throughout this evaluation
question I will be explaining and evaluating each
of these publishing houses and deciding whether
or they are the appropriate publishing house for
me to use for my own media product.
 Bauer Media is a European based media company that was
founded by Yvonne Bauer. They publish a wide variety of well-
known magazine as such as Q, Mojo, Empire and Kerrang. This
would help me in my own magazine as Mojo is a magazine that
has a similar genre for music with artists like Prince being on the
cover so that would help me to publicize my own magazine with
renowned magazine names. These are some of their more know
music magazine publications that most people read. The
distribution methods that Bauer Media uses are subscription
services, hard copies that are to be sold in stores and online
downloads. All of these methods would be effective ways of
distributing my music magazine as it gives my target audience the
choice of what format they would prefer to read my magazine in.
these would be particularly appealing to my target audience as we
live in the digital age where most people are using some form of
technology while they are on the go so they will be able to read
my magazine whenever they feel like it.
 The Egmont Group is a multi-media corporation that was founded
in Denmark by Steffen Kragh. Egmont was initially a magazine
based publisher but has developed over the years into a mass
media organisation. They publish many different formatted books
and magazines like sticker and activity books, annuals and
storybooks. One of the magazines that they publish is the music
magazine ‘We Love Pop’ which is a monthly publicized magazine.
Another one of their monthly magazines is targeted at girls from
the ages of 7-12 years old. Egmont used hard copies that are sold
in stores and subscription services as their distribution methods.
Though these are good methods of distribution, I don’t think that
it would be wise that I choose this publication house as they do
not have the choice of having an online version of their magazines
which is needed with my targeted audience as I want my
magazine be easily accessible to my target audience which is
males and females of the ages of 16-24 years old.
 Lastly, Rhinegold Publishing Ltd is a leading UK publisher for the
classical music, education and performing arts industries. Rhinegold
publish some of the following magazines; Classical Music, Teaching
Drama, Choir and Organ, etc. They use a range of distribution methods
such as subscription services, free downloads available on their websites,
digital magazines on apps and hard copies purchasable from chosen
stores. This means that they are cross media convergence as they have
their magazines available on more than one format. I believe that all of
these methods of distribution would be useful for my magazine as it
gives the readers of my magazine a choice of what format they would like
to read my magazine on. Also, as there are online versions and
applications that are purchasable, it gives the reader more convenience as
they may not have the time to go and buy a hard copy from a store so
they can easily download a version onto their phones or tablet so that
they are able to read my magazine anywhere they are. However, as this
institution doesn’t publish magazines of my music magazine genre, it
wouldn’t be appropriate to use them because they not effectively be
distributing my magazine to my chosen target audience.
 Considering all of the points that have been
brought up in this essay, I think that the best
media institution for my music magazine is Bauer
Magazine. This is due to the fact that the
magazine, Mojo that they publish is more
associated with my genre of music for my
magazine. They also use the distribution methods
that I desire to use for my own magazine. The
reason that I won’t be using The Egmont Group as
my publishing house is because their target
audience for their publications is for children of all
ages so m target audience age doesn’t fit into that.

  • 1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • 2.  The genre of music for my chosen magazine is Soul and R’n’B. In order for me to have my magazine effectively distributed, I will need to choose the correct media institution that will publish my magazine. I have researched and found three publishing houses that may have an opportunity to publish my magazine. These are the following; Bauer Media, The Egmont Group and Rhinegold Publishing Ltd. Throughout this evaluation question I will be explaining and evaluating each of these publishing houses and deciding whether or they are the appropriate publishing house for me to use for my own media product.
  • 3.  Bauer Media is a European based media company that was founded by Yvonne Bauer. They publish a wide variety of well- known magazine as such as Q, Mojo, Empire and Kerrang. This would help me in my own magazine as Mojo is a magazine that has a similar genre for music with artists like Prince being on the cover so that would help me to publicize my own magazine with renowned magazine names. These are some of their more know music magazine publications that most people read. The distribution methods that Bauer Media uses are subscription services, hard copies that are to be sold in stores and online downloads. All of these methods would be effective ways of distributing my music magazine as it gives my target audience the choice of what format they would prefer to read my magazine in. these would be particularly appealing to my target audience as we live in the digital age where most people are using some form of technology while they are on the go so they will be able to read my magazine whenever they feel like it.
  • 4.  The Egmont Group is a multi-media corporation that was founded in Denmark by Steffen Kragh. Egmont was initially a magazine based publisher but has developed over the years into a mass media organisation. They publish many different formatted books and magazines like sticker and activity books, annuals and storybooks. One of the magazines that they publish is the music magazine ‘We Love Pop’ which is a monthly publicized magazine. Another one of their monthly magazines is targeted at girls from the ages of 7-12 years old. Egmont used hard copies that are sold in stores and subscription services as their distribution methods. Though these are good methods of distribution, I don’t think that it would be wise that I choose this publication house as they do not have the choice of having an online version of their magazines which is needed with my targeted audience as I want my magazine be easily accessible to my target audience which is males and females of the ages of 16-24 years old.
  • 5.  Lastly, Rhinegold Publishing Ltd is a leading UK publisher for the classical music, education and performing arts industries. Rhinegold publish some of the following magazines; Classical Music, Teaching Drama, Choir and Organ, etc. They use a range of distribution methods such as subscription services, free downloads available on their websites, digital magazines on apps and hard copies purchasable from chosen stores. This means that they are cross media convergence as they have their magazines available on more than one format. I believe that all of these methods of distribution would be useful for my magazine as it gives the readers of my magazine a choice of what format they would like to read my magazine on. Also, as there are online versions and applications that are purchasable, it gives the reader more convenience as they may not have the time to go and buy a hard copy from a store so they can easily download a version onto their phones or tablet so that they are able to read my magazine anywhere they are. However, as this institution doesn’t publish magazines of my music magazine genre, it wouldn’t be appropriate to use them because they not effectively be distributing my magazine to my chosen target audience.
  • 6.  Considering all of the points that have been brought up in this essay, I think that the best media institution for my music magazine is Bauer Magazine. This is due to the fact that the magazine, Mojo that they publish is more associated with my genre of music for my magazine. They also use the distribution methods that I desire to use for my own magazine. The reason that I won’t be using The Egmont Group as my publishing house is because their target audience for their publications is for children of all ages so m target audience age doesn’t fit into that.
