Succinate Dehydrogenase Lab Report
Abstract:
Rat liver cells can be separated and analysed by Subcellular fractionation using homogenisation and
then centrifugation to separate the cells into the subcellular fractions. When the fractions are separated
succinate dehydrogenase is used to identify mitochondria. Succinate dehydrogenase is an enzyme that
catalyses the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the Krebs cycle and is usually on the mitochondria
inner membrane and not found in other organelles in the cell(Rustin, Munnich, and Rötig, 2002). Care
needs to be taken when separating the subcellular fractions as organelles can be damaged and can
cause lysis giving incorrect results. Regulation of conditions like the temperature and the pH are
important as incorrect conditions could cause the enzymes to denature. Also adding an isotonic buffer
not water will help to avoid damage to cell organelles due to osmotic an imbalance (Greenawalt and
Vasington, 1968). When it comes to measuring the SDH it is measured indirectly because the
succinate dehydrogenase and the fumerate involved in the reaction are both colourless so it is
impossible to measure any changes using a spectrophotometer. Instead the absorbance of formazan is
measured at 490nm. The formazan is produced by reacting the FADH2 from the SDH reaction with
INT which a tetrazolium salt. The formazan produced is red in colour and when dissolved into the
ethyl acetate can be extracted and then read on the spectrophotometer (Smith and McFeters, 1997). As

Broken Arm Or Just A Muscle Torch Research Paper
Broken Arm or Just a Muscle Stretch
You always sit in that room and play your silly video game, can you at least go outside for a walk or
something? Mom screamed. It was a beautiful sunny day. One of those pleasant, brilliant days that all
you want to do is relax on the beach. Sit under a colossal umbrella, drink some kind of icy lemonade
and not think about anything. But at the same time, the sun was like a lava from an erupting volcano .
The more you were standing in the sun without cover, the worst it gets. The sun was striking with its
brightness like a lightning, super bright and sparkly. As always emptiness was around the corner in my
head, and games were the answer. For me the games were basically everything. Deeply would ...

Concentration Camp Dachau Research Paper
Throughout our country s history, there have been very few generations that have been alive during a
time in which our country is not at war. One of the most common wars the United States was a part of
was World War II. This war was fought from 1939 until 1945, regarding the acts of certain countries
such as Germany, Italy, and Japan. These countries were violating human rights by placing innocent
individuals, that they considered to be weak, into concentration camps. Humans of today s society
should be required to learn about the conditions of concentration camps, the treatment towards the
prisoners in concentration camps, and the aftermath of concentration camps, to prevent the history
from repeating itself. Leading up to World War II, the Nazi party ... Show more content on

It was liberated during a time in which the allies were ahead of the axis in the war. The US Seventh
Army s 45th Division liberated Dachau. A few days before Dachau was liberated, the SS forced seven
thousand of the prisoners of Dachau to the front of the camp. They forced them on a death march from
Dachau to Tegernsee on April 27th, 1945. The next day, most of the SS officials abandoned the camp.
On April 29th, Dachau was liberated after a small battle between the US and the remaining SS
officials. One of the individuals that helped liberate Dachau described his arrival into the camp as
Incinerators were used to cremate victims partly to reduce the need for burial but also in an attempt to
hide the evidence of mass murder and camp atrocities. At Dachau, American troops arrived to find
dead bodies still piled around the camp awaiting cremation or burial ( Dachau ). This shows how
poorly the prisoners were treated because they didn t even have the privilege of being buried, they
were just thrown into a pile of dead bodies. In the camp, after liberation, there were over thirty
thousand survivors. Americans found over thirty railroad cars full of dead bodies near the

What Is Segmentation and Marketing Strategy
Segmentation
Segmentation may be defined as the process of dividing a heterogeneous market into homogeneous
sub units.
To get a product or service to the right person or company, a marketer would firstly segment the
market, then target a single segment or series of segments, and finally position within the segment(s).
Segmentation is essentially the identification of subsets of buyers within a market who share similar
needs and who demonstrate similar buyer behavior. Segmentation aims to match groups of purchasers
with the same set of needs and buyer behavior. Such a group is known as a segment .
Importance of segmentation
The essence of the marketing concept is the idea of placing customer needs at the centre of ... Show

Is it easy for you to target and reach your segment? Can they be reached with basic communication
tools such as radio and TV advertising? If you cannot target your segment effectively with marketing
communication then it is not viable. The marketer must be able to reach the segment. It is no good
identifying a potential segment if you cannot serve it because of government regulations or location,
etc.
3. Suitability of segment: Is there enough spending power within the segment for the company to
sustain itself.?
4. Meaningful The base(s) used must lead to segments, which have different preferences or needs and
show clear variations in market behaviour, and response to individually designed marketing mixes.
5. Substantial The base(s) used should lead to segments, which are sufficiently large to be
economically and practically worthwhile, serving as discrete market targets with a distinctive
marketing mix. It must be large enough to warrant activity on the part of the marketer. In the extreme
example above, the woman with green hair could not be described as a substantial segment.
6. Actionability of segment: Does the organisation have enough resources to reach their segments?. It
is no point in targeting segments you do not have the resources to cater for. If you were a car
manufacturer the organisation

Margaret Chase Smith s Campaign Analysis
A week after Wisconsin in Illinois, Goldwater squared off against Margaret Chase Smith. Rockefeller
dared not challenge Goldwater in the conservative state, neither did anyone else of much consequence
for that matter with Lodge and Nixon still undeclared. Goldwater needed to prove to Republicans that
he could win, and Illinois, with 26 electoral votes, was a coveted prize. Feminist groups put Smith s
name on the ballot, hoping that she could elicit the kind of challenge that made her famous when she
spoke out against Senator McCarthy. For the Arizonian, her campaign would bring a level of prestige
to the race without risking a defeat, and, more importantly, a write in victory like the one in New
Hampshire would not be possible as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a survey conducted by the Associated Press beginning in April, Republican county
chairmen, town leaders, and other party leaders believed that Nixon would prevail to become the party
nominee at the convention. This was the third such poll taken by the AP with Goldwater winning the
first poll in October and the second in December after Kennedy s assassination caused a sharp decline
in his position. For his part, Rockefeller remained as the preferred candidate by county leaders, but
they no longer held an optimistic view of his chances. Most interesting of all, while most respondents
believed Nixon would likely win the nomination, Goldwater was the overall preferred choice; yet, 223
of the 1,006 respondents replied no opinion to the question of who is most likely to win the
nomination. For both sides, the conservatives and the liberals, New Hampshire did not mean much to
them or so they said, though confidence in Goldwater s campaign abilities varied based on ideology.
Their concern lay in the mega primary state of California, a winner take all contest. Till then, they
would have to wait while the other primaries captured the spotlight. As the candidates hopped from
one primary to the next, the lens on the outcome of the nomination flared in and out of focus. Lodge
won New Jersey on April 21 then Massachusetts a week later in which

The Bataan Death March Effect On War
The Bataan Death March effect on war On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed the United States
Naval Base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese did not stop there. Their attacks
continued to the Philippines, where U.S. forces were stationed. After some time battling, the U.S. and
Filipino troops had to surrender and the Japanese took them over. The Bataan Death March did not
only affect the United States, Philippines, and Japanese, it affected how war trials were held and
carried out. The question is how did the Bataan Death March affect modern day warfare? The first
attack against the U.S. done by the Japanese was the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor just before 8 a.m., it was devastating. The Japanese fighter
planes destroyed around 20 naval ships and eight of them were some of the United State s biggest
battleships. The Japanese didn t just destroy vessels, they also managed to destroy around 300
airplanes. The amount of American soldier s lives lost was heart rending, there were over 2,000
Soldiers and Sailors lost from the American fleet. There were also more than 1,000 wounded or
critically injured on that horrifying day. The day of the Pearl Harbor attacks became known as a date
which will live in infamy , and this day was only the beginning. This was only the midpoint of Japan s
attacks, the second half was the Bataan Death March. One of the biggest questions that comes up

Essay On Ear Cropping
For years, society has the controversy of allowing veterinarians to legally perform ear cropping and
tail docking as a cosmetic surgery on dogs or perceived as crossing the line of animal cruelty; yet, the
aspect of animal cruelty comes into action after surgery, during the recovering process of taping and
bandaging that sometimes needs to be done after the surgery amounts to animal cruelty and is
indefensible (Dunn) [Figure 1]. In other words, your companion has to go through a painful recovery
that is inhumane in order for the results to turn out normal , and it cannot be denied. This does not
include the unexpected future risk and problems that could arise at any moment just to change your
dog s appearance. Although animals cannot express their opinion, research suggests not to allow
owners to perform tail docking and ear cropping procedures on their dog because of the risk and
health problems affiliated with this painful procedure.
The practice performed by a professionally trained veterinarian is greatly debated, but it gained a
major breakthrough in 2008 when the AVMA announced it has denounced the practice of ear cropping
and tail docking, due to the concern of performing such an intense surgery for a cosmetic purpose
instead of an advised medical reason that contains no benefits determined by a professional (Becker).

Media s Effect On The Black Society
Media has a detrimental effect on the black society. Blacks have very little, if any control in what the
media displays. How many African American Television network companies are there? How many
African American Television companies are competing with the big named companies who rack in
millions or billions of dollars? It is logical to say whomever controls the media, controls the mind.
Television is a common form of media . A lot of things that we watch has been carefully hand picked
and crafted for blacks but not by blacks. There are currently no Black owned television networks. The
question is; who is feeding our minds? Television network companies are almost completely
dominated by middle aged to elderly Caucasian male. Many may assume that BET is black owned;
however as of 2001 BET has been taken over by Viacom . Who owns Viacom? Sumner Redstone, an
elderly Caucasian male. BET is the most prominent network in targeting Black households and
reaches over 90 Million households. Having no black owned television networks lead to a non black
persons perception of black people and black culture. This displays a fabricated experience and
idealism of what these networks think black people are or should be. It is equivalent to an individual
making a documentary on what it is like being Oprah Winfrey but they are not Oprah. Winfrey.

A Research Article On Hiv
Before reading this article, I must admit that I was not educated on the available options for men
living with HIV to conceive biological children. I always thought that they were limited to adoption
and the use of a sperm donors. I never though that an HIV positive person could have sex with an HIV
negative person without transferring the infection. I ve always known that a person s viral load played
a part in they re ability to transfer the virus, but I still wondered what person in their right mind would
take the chance of contracting such a horrible disease. I knew that condoms provided some protection
from contracting the disease, but again, who would take the chance of catching HIV. So, for me the
thought of an HIV discordant couple producing a biological child was unheard of, but after reading
this article, my opinion has been changed. Article Summary The main topic of this article focused on
HIV discordant couples that have a desire to conceive biological children. It focused on the fact that
limited clinic in North America offered or provided fertility treatment to HIV discordant couples

This article summarized some of the discrimination and negative perceptions of HIV positive people,
it also discussed a study done in Ontario, Canada that followed 12 HIV discordant couples who
wanted to conceive biological children. In these 12 couples the men were the HIV positive

The Victim Of Fate In Oedipus The King By Sophocles
The belief in Greek Philosophy, is the belief that someone s fate is determined by their actions and
decisions that have been made in their life. The Greeks believed that fate is accepted because it is
difficult to avoid. According to Oedipus the King by Sophocles, Oedipus is in control of his own fate,
though not until the point at which he seeks out to the oracles to ask about his past. He could have
went to the prophecy, instead, he takes action on his own which entirely changes his fate. The
prophecy was destined, for Oedipus, to marry his mother and kill his father. Oedipus may be a victim
of fate, however he is not innocent and did have to live with his mistake in the outcome of his life.
In addition, to his irony of fate, shows that he has a fate of pride. His fate of pride forced him to
murder his own father. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found certainly towards him leaving
his parents who raised him in order to save them and to avoid fulfilling the prophecy. He fails in this
effort, offering some strong proof that he is a victim of fate. Oedipus s pride soon prevents him from
seeing the truth. Oedipus is blinded by his pride because he cannot accept his fate due to the certainty
that he tries to avoid his own fate. Had Oedipus not had so much pride, he would listened to Creon
and Teiresias ideal belief of who had really killed King Laius, which was Oedipus. The evidence of
Oedipus efforts can be found that he accuses his brother, Creon, of trying to

Kipling s Feelings About The Government
Kipling in his writing shows several hints about how he feels about the government; the first obvious
notice is this, The politics of Loaferdom that sees things from the underside where the lath and plaster
is not smoothed off. He s hinting at the connotation that there are imperfections within the system that
some can see. Kiplings narrative not only shows a personal opinion, but also what some people would
contradict him with. Take Peachey and Dravot for instance, who one not only said in a connotative
way that he believes in is King, I greatly fear that my King is dead, and if I want a crown I must go
and hunt it for myself. This character within the story showed a persona of some people and how they
felt with the current British empire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is a desperate hyperbole of a sentence, to threaten the possibility of someone being cut to pieces,
but it does show the hidden feeling that Kipling believes that other coutries have a very extreme and
different way of living.
Trudging back to what the opinion is on different classes, later in the story the main character
addresses the different people that come into the newspaper building, every dissolute ruffian that ever
tramped the Grand Trunk Road makes it his business to ask for employment as a proof reader. He does
not believe people are entitled, let alone one s that he would consider undermining or ruffian in nature.
He later goes to say, But that is the amusing part of the year. As if the struggles of the lower class and
their entitlement are of a laughable

Visual Effects Of The Great Gatsby
According to Prince, visual effects enables filmmakers to overcome the limitations of time, budget
and place that otherwise would restrict the stories they could film. (P.272). visual effects such as matte
painting, and animation allows filmmakers to film imaginary world and beyond. This week s movie
clip showed images and clips of before and after the visual effects in the Great Gatsby. I was excited
to see the visual effects used in this movie as it is one of my old time favorite. Just seeing how the
visual effects brought the movie to life was so amazing. I think this is on the list of one of the most
important elements in film design, and I really think it doesn t get as much recognition as it should. As
the clips showed us before the visual effects, the movie looks dull and uninterested, but as soon as it
switched to after the visual effects were added, it seems so much more interesting and colorful. ...

of visual effects, let s take the Great Gatsby for example. If there wasn t any visual effects, the house
that Gatsby lived in would just be a big, colorless mansion, and the scene where he is driving on the
bridge would not be able to make it onto the movie screen because, in reality he just there siting in a

Benching Jim Crow Summary
Review of Benching Jim Crow by Charles H. Martin If states are the laboratories of democracy, then
sports are the arena in which it is tested. This book serves as a review of racial integration and the
changing dynamics in sports from 1890 1980. Charles Martin aims for the reader to understand why it
was common place for white southerners to compete against non black ethnic minorities (E.G. Native
Americans, Chinese), but an issue when even a single African American was on an opposing team.
Benching Jim Crow explains to the reader that the persistence of segregation lay with overarching
cultural mentalities left over from the Civil War, but shifts in position came from external (financial),
and internal (students and players). Though offering little insight into the legal and political impacts of
Jim Crow itself, Martin paints a detailed, but redundant, narrative of the rise and fall of Jim Crow in
athletics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As schools began to engage in intercollegiate sports at the turn of the century, Southern schools
unofficially required that the opposing team bench any of their players if they were colored. If the
team declined to do so, it was common place for the southern school to not field a team. Martin
explains that Southern universities would rarely know the lineup of their competitors in the earlier
years of football, so these decisions were often made upon arrival. More likely than not, when a
southern school forfeited a match it would lay blame to the opposing team for not respecting its long
standing traditions and sensibilities. (18,

Importance Of Public Monuments
Public monuments, by contrast, offer an anachronistic experience: a face to face encounter in a
specially valued place set aside for collective gathering (Source A). Public monuments provide an
escape, or a memory, to people who are willing to sink their teeth into the rich history they provide.
More importantly, memorializing has been apart of humanity since the beginning of time, and we use
it to praise people or events of importance, as well as events that hold great sorrow. Along with the
importance and values that commemorate memorials, comes immense preparation and planning when
building a monument. Therefore, it is important that three main factors from sources E, G, and C, are
taken into consideration when attempting to build a memorial.
Initially, location is the most detrimental factor when planning a memorial. The location should not
only please the people of the area, but also correspond to the location of what it is memorializing, as
well as cause no harm to the artificial or organic structures in the area. However, some may reject
memorials in certain locations because of harmful memories they may evoke. While some may feel
this way, most can accept the fact that a memorial is a beneficial way to remember an event, whether it
s joyful or glum. A clear example in source E states, The controversy grew from Jewish and non
Jewish communities, primarily due to the fact that a museum dedicated to the memory of the
Holocaust would be built in the United States,

The Effect Of Biofeedback On Basketball Players And Effect...
2. Background Information
This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on their on court
performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and correct their muscle memory.
Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the ability for the central and peripheral nervous
systems to communicate in response to an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured
including the reaction time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement
time: the time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the
response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been previous studies
that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB) and Electroencephalographic
Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations between improvement in performance and
responsiveness to stimuli. However, there has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability
Biofeedback (HRV BFB) which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in
athletes. The most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside
disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can perform at their
optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is important for achievement in sports,
especially in basketball, where there are a multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably,

Psychotherapy Vs Psychotherapy
In chapter 15 the topic that is being covered is therapies. Psychological disorders are able to be treated
in two ways, with psychotherapy or biomedical therapy. Psychotherapy is based upon the assumption
that psychological factors are playing an important role in psychological disorders and symptoms.
Whereas, biomedical therapies are based upon the assumption that biological factors play an important
roles in psychological disorders and symptoms.
Psychoanalysis is a type of therapy that was developed by Sigmund Freud and is based upon his
theory of personality. Psychoanalytic techniques and processes include free association, resistance,

Aspects of client centered therapy include a client who directs the focus of therapy sessions and a
therapist who is genuine, demonstrates unconditional positive regard, and communicates empathic
understanding. Behavior therapy assumes that maladaptive behavior are learned and uses learning
principles to directly change problem behaviors. Mary Cover Jones was the first behavior therapist,
using the procedure counterconditioning to extinguish phobic behavior in a child. Classical
conditioning principles are involved in the use of systematic desensitization. While, aversive
conditioning is used to treat harmful behaviors such as smoking and alcohol addiction. The token
economy represents the application operant conditioning to modify the behavior of groups of people
who live in a hospital or other institution.
The cognitive therapies are based upon the assumption that psychological problems are caused by the
maladaptive patterns of thinking. Rational emotive therapy was developed by Albert Ellis. Cognitive
therapy was developed by Aaron T. Beck. Cognitive behavioral therapy is based upon the assumption
that thoughts, moods and behaviors are functionally interrelated. Group therapy involves one or more
therapists working with several people simultaneously. Family therapy focuses on the family rather

Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences Essay
Connections Between Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Implications for
Education
The old paradigm of students as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge has given way to
the constructivist belief that students continuously build understandings based on their prior
experiences and information. The idea of a fixed intelligence has given way to a more flexible
perception of gradual intellectual development dependent on external stimulation (6)
Our intelligence, therefore, is our singular, collective ability to act and react in an everchanging world
(1)
In my first two web papers I researched two defined disorders, ADHD and Autism, following a train
of thought which began with a question: given that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This notion is well surmised by the Harvard Law of Animal Behavior, according to which, under
carefully controlled experimental circumstances, an animal will behave as it damn well pleases (5).
This points to the often uncomfortable result of neurological studies: there is no predictable pattern to
behavior. Instead of believing that the studies need better controls, some researchers now believe that
this unpredictability is itself significant. Biologically speaking, diversity is as fundamental to life as is
order. It is neither accidental nor detrimental. It is instead essential to the success of any biological
entity (8). A body of research now exists that corroborates externally discernible human variability
with an improved understanding of the internal variability present in human nervous systems.
Therefore, a more accurate reflection of differences in learning abilities and the resultant perceived
intellectual capacity of children is better captured with the phrase learning styles, which connotes not
a disability, but a difference. An important and potentially far reaching result of this enhanced
understanding of the nervous system is to use it to inform ideas about what constitutes an optimal
learning environment for children. Accepting that macrocosmic, visible variability has an associated
molecular microcosm lends it greater credibility, and gives educators a solid foundation

Descriptive Speech
When I was six years old, my father would take me his frequent stops to Walmart every week. One
could imagine how repetitive the car ride would be so as a way to make it a little more thrilling, I
would entertain my father by asking him facetious questions. These questions ranged from subjects
like, Why is the sky blue? or Are there bathrooms in Heaven? No matter how childish the question,
my father would always have an elaborate answer that left me with more questions. However, once I
asked my father about the origin of my name, he just answered me with four simple words: We just
liked it. Recently, I ve tried to bog the mind of my mother and try to understand where she got the
name Taylor Ashley from. So, you just liked the name. Like there isn t a story behind it, I asked over
the sounds of my fellow Tuskegee classmates. I m sorry but there ain t no story behind it. I just always
like the name Taylor, baby. My mother always liked the name Taylor, so much so, that when she was
little she wanted the name to be her own. My mother s birth name is Tawanda which to her is deemed
as a ghetto name. I never really understood why she would want to give up a name that left a certain
twang on your tongue after saying it. The only way I could comprehend her reason for this was the
fact that my mother desired a life outside of the New Orleans St.Bernard projects; a life that offered
her more than week old lunch meat and flying roaches as roommates. A girl with the

Salmonella – description, pathogenesis, symptoms Essay
Salmonella description, pathogenesis, symptoms
Salmonella is a gram negative bacillus that causes inflammation of the GI tract and in some cases, if
the immune response is not sufficiently powerful and treatment is not administered, can become
systemic and cause even more serious conditions throughout the body. After ingestion, these bacteria
cause infection by invading the epithelial cells of the small intestine and macrophages. Though there
are more than two thousand different subspecies of Salmonella, few of them are able to cause serious
conditions in humans for most, the disease resolves itself in a matter of days. Those who are most
affected by Salmonella infection are infants, the elderly, and people with compromised immune ...

salmonella is a specialized invader of the gastrointestinal system that can cause a variety of painful
conditions of varying severity.
The bacteria known as Salmonellae are gram negative, rod shaped bacilli that belong to the family
Enterobacteriacea they are typically anaerobic, unable to form spores, and motile, or able to move
around spontaneously. An important characteristic of the Salmonella bacteria is that they are able to
grow and multiply outside living host organisms, thus having greater survival chances than otherwise
(Gray and Fedorka Cray 56).
The bacteria can have a combination of three antigens: the O antigen, H antigen, and Vi antigen. The
O antigen is located in the cell wall of the bacterium, and each salmonella bacillus may posses 2 or
more O antigens on its surface. Also, the H antigen is a flagellar antigen that can be destroyed by heat
and enables the motility of the Salmonella bacterium (Slack and Snyder 295). The last antigen is
known as the Vi antigen because this antigen is related the virulence of the bacterium. As a capsular
antigen, its presence enhances the virulence of the bacterium that has it of all the sub species of
Salmonella, only two, Salmonella enterica serovar (S.) typhi and S. choleraesuis, have the Vi antigen
(296).

despite his average grades and below average life. An additional point in the story where Chris has not

Duchess and Firefly . This illustrates that the home life of Chris is not ideal, that Chris would rather
live in his alternate version of his own reality than the one he was born into when it comes to his home

However, after failing to get into college, Chris chooses to leave is home and seek a job elsewhere by

These two types of conflict again coincide quite closely with our revolution and identity conflict

Endocrine Disrupters
It is important to develop alternatives to fossil fuels because the earth s reserves of these energy
resources are in great decline. The usage of fossil fuel also causes an increase in the number of carbon
dioxide released into the atmosphere. Because of the increase number of carbon dioxide, it s causing
the ocean water to become acidic endangering marine life. Also the smog created from burning fossil
will result like the video we watched about china. In addition, in order to have sustainable agriculture,
the use of fossil fuel needs to be decreased thus lowering the amount of pollution in the soil.
3. Endocrine disrupters are toxic substances that disrupt the hormone system in the human body. They
are a problem for humans because the hormone system regulates many things in the body such as
growth, development, and brain function and some of these disrupters interfere with the function of
these hormones from performing it s job. Because some of these toxins may be carcinogenic and
teratogenic, they are a danger to the humankind. We are exposed to these toxins from the environment
such as run off from streams and/or from the food that we ingest such as fish. We can avoid endocrine
disrupters by taking precautionary measures such as avoiding plastics that contain biphosphenol A
(BPA), eating organic food to avoid risk of eating pesticide contaminated food, and also use cleaning
supplies that are certified USDA organic (9 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Written by Tommaso Campanella and published by Daelli, Milano in 1863 it is influenced by
Campanella s imprisonment during the Inquisition as a perfect world for people like him (McLean).
Tommaso Campanella is considered one of the most important philosopher of the late Renaissance. He
was condemned to heresy by denouncing the Spanish Inquisition, but was released and exiled. As his
ideas began to spread, he became an inspiration behind a conspiracy to overthrow Spanish rule and
was imprisoned again in 1598 . He escaped the death penalty by faking madness and was held for
twenty seven years where he wrote many political works. Trinity s copy of City of the Sun is volume
eleven and blindstamped with full leather bindings. It is numbered to about one hundred and eighty
nine pages with roman type. It is in good condition with yellowed and spotted pages. Woodcuts of
Tommaso Campanella and Tommaso More, now venerated as Saint Thomas, are featured. There are
no table of contents or index but, there is a proof of provenance that states this work s owner was
Raffaelo Itlodeo and a author s note that states that this book is a poetical dialogue (Campanella 27).
The publication of City of the Sun is what led to the second imprisonment of Tommaso Campanella.
In the city there are no masters or servants, laws are clear, and everyone has a chance to express their
grievances, but just about every aspect of society is regulated. The heavy regulation is also similar to
Campanella s society at the time and resulted in a conspiracy to overthrow the government. Through

Including the client s family during the therapeutic process from a CBT Family Focused Therapy

Currents under the sea play an important role in the formation of a coastline. Currents may be
generated by density differences in water masses caused by temperature and salinity variations
(NOAA, 2013). These currents move large water masses through deep ocean taking nutrients, oxygen,

Colin Powell 18 Lessons In Leadership Summary
General (USA RET) Colin L. Powell, 18 Lessons in Leadership General Powell highlights 18 lessons
learned in leadership that are applied to successful companies, and how they are applied to leadership
in his presentation to the Outreach Program, and the Sears Corporate Headquarters. These approaches
can be applied not only in business but life in general. I will highlight three of the lessons that have
impacted my career in the military Lesson 7 Too often in business as well as the military, If it ain t
broke, don t fix it (Powell, C #7). Too often the command as well as enlisted soldiers will use this
analogy to continue to do what they have always done and fight change. Also this leads to allowing
small details to be overlooked because it s been allowed before, these small details, such as production
schedules become larger details. These small little details will cause larger details to be overlooked in
the future. This culture will foster reactivity instead of promoting proactivity (Powell, C #7). This type
of culture is a struggle for leaders to change in the National Guard because of the hometown
mentality, all though we strive to keep the since of community in our units as leaders we have to be
the supporters of change. Be able to answer the why when it is necessary to move in a different
direction, we have to be able to always look beneath the surface and not take situations at face value.

Essay On Strikes At Cordoba
Strikes at Universidad de Cordoba have always been a constant, and it have affected my school life in
more ways than one. I graduated from high school in 2006 and enrolled in Industrial Engineering at
the university in 2007. Now it is 2017, I have quitted engineering and move to the English teaching
program, it has been 10 years now and strikes have never cease to shock me. I remember, my first
time experiencing a strike at the university, for all intents and purposes I was calm, contrary to the
majority of my classmates and student body, rather the word would be curious, I just could not
understand the need of a strike. True, there were things the university had to improve like bad, dirty
bathroom facilities that most of the time did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Needless to say I was rendered unable to breath, my throat and nose had never ached like that before,
and the pain in my eyes was excruciating, not sure how, I got out of the range of the grenade s fog, but
I was still heavily affected by its effects and it would take a while before they passed. Suddenly I felt
someone pull my arm and led me to the other side of the street near the gas station, it was a cop, and I
thought I was in trouble, and that I was being mistakenly accused for the strike, however, the cop just
try to comfort me, even buying me a Pepsi saying it would help me to this day I still do not know what
does Pepsi have to do with subsiding the effects of a tear grenade I drank it and stayed there for about
20 minutes until I felt better to go home, not before thanking the cop for his help of course. This has
been by far my worst experience when it comes to strikes at Universidad de Cordoba. There was also
the time several strikes happened almost at the same time. The worker s strike,

Essay about Borgata Case Study Industrial Orgnizational...
Industrial/Organizational Psychology Mod 2 Critical Thinking
As former Director of Marketing for Monster.com, I am very familiar with the benefits and pitfalls of
high volume/high quality recruiting. If I were conducting the extensive recruitment that the Borgata
required, I would have done exactly the same thing and relied on outside expertise and technology to
attain recruitment goals. As John Schadler of Hotel and Motel Management states: Instead of the
traditional recruitment effort (the standard black and while, all text ad in Sunday s classified section),
hotels and resorts are using colorful full page ads in lifestyle magazines, witty dialogue in radio
advertising and dramatic visuals on outdoor billboards to attract the best ... Show more content on

The Borgata wisely chose to use an integrated solutions marketing and recruitment technology
company to assist them. Just prior to my being hired by Monster.com, Monster had experienced a
huge problem with a similar recruiting effort for the Transportation Security Administration and we
were still dealing with the aftermath. Rather than select Monster.com for help, Borgata chose a
company that offered similar services named PeopleSoft and achieved satisfactory results (Business
Wire, 2003.)
Many factors go into the recruiting and screening of a large volume of applicants, particularly within a
short time frame. While electronic media has certainly altered the landscape of recruiting, it would not
be efficient to broadcast across millions in order to obtain suitable candidates. Obviously it is most
cost and time effective to mine from applicants that already fit specific target demographics such as
physical proximity to workplace, background and skills, etc. PeopleSoft at that time was a software
driven company, but Monster.com as the largest database company in the world, had not only the
software but also the capacity to specifically target the most appropriate demographics in order to
enhance the quality of the recruitment by mining from their own

Love Is Strange By Ira Sachs And Mauricio Zacharias
(1) BUDGET
First released on 18 January 2014 at Sundance Film Festival,, Love is Strange is directed by Ira Sachs
and written by Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias, depicting a love story between two old men, who
live in New York City. The film is produced by seven companies, which is Parts and labor, in
association with Palior House Production, Film50 and Mutressa Movies as well as RT Features, and
Charlie Guidance, Mn...Buttered Panini Productions. The film s distributors account for 15
companies. The film gained $117,276 in the opening weekend and grossed $2,252,580 in the United
State. Maybe to cut the budget, Sachs lets his husband create painting for the character Ben. The
budget for the film is around $150,000. There is a fun fact of ... Show more content on

Typically, these films directly depict gay love which is studios dislike to handle. Love Is Strange
shows audiences the love between two old men could be so simple, just like love between a man and a
woman. Likewise, Ben and George look like two kids, and nothing is more important for them than
being able to living together. The film is focus on normal life of two old men. Few of studio films
want to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some trivial and
real matters that affect audiences and their emotion. It is interesting too. Foe instance, Ben interrupts
Kate when she is writing, and Kate asks Ben why he don t start a new painting; Ben answers, It s the
hardest thing, Kate, to be honest with you. I brought all my stuff here, but...Well...it s just that I can t
really work if there s someone else around. I can t concentrate, you know? Does Ben realize that Kate
cannot concentrate because he is around?
(3) Characters
I cannot confirm who can be easily identified with because Ira Sachs did a good job making elaborate
efforts to every characters. Every characters is nice in nature. Ben Hull, one of the old men, is
obsessed with sadness. Ben is likely to worry about something with his sorrowful eyes; he is prone to
melancholy and sensitivity. But sometimes, he can be so excited. In contrast, George Garea is

Brick Lane Mosque In The 19th Century
Brick Lane Mosque, similarly to other mosques across the globe, displays non existent segregationist
attitudes and is open to the public regardless of taste and social class. This is further emphasised
through the cultural and religious practices of the Muslims in the mosque, referring to each other as
brothers and sisters , indicating zero arrogance or ignorance though social status. This is due to the
primary belief which binds each agent, which is, in this case, the followers of Islam, who despite taste
and social class, share one invaluable thing in common... religion.
However, despite Brick Lane Mosque being a place of worship for the followers of Islam and serving
as a place where Muslims can come together and perform acts of devotion,

Mr Capulet Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet
Could you marry a man without you father finding out? Like every father, Mr. Capulet tries his best to
be a good dad and have a positive relationship with his daughter. However, the the daily struggles and
busy life make it difficult to know everything that happens in his daughter s life.
Mr. Capulet does not know what is happening in his daughter s life. He does not know that she is
already married. He does not know that she is crying for Romeo not Tybalt. He does not know that
everything he does negatively affects Juliet s life. For example, he chose Paris as Juliet s husband. He
did not do it for Juliet, he did if for him. Having Paris marry his daughter only would benefit himself
and the Capulet name. It would make Mr. Capulet look good, he is the one that selected the greatest
man. Also, when Juliet refuses to marry Paris, Mr. Capulet has a huge meltdown. He says he will
disown her and she must marry Paris or never come back. He stated that he did not care if she
committed suicide. A real father would never say that. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Succinate Dehydrogenase Lab Report Abstract: Rat liver cells can be separated and analysed by Subcellular fractionation using homogenisation and then centrifugation to separate the cells into the subcellular fractions. When the fractions are separated succinate dehydrogenase is used to identify mitochondria. Succinate dehydrogenase is an enzyme that catalyses the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the Krebs cycle and is usually on the mitochondria inner membrane and not found in other organelles in the cell(Rustin, Munnich, and Rötig, 2002). Care needs to be taken when separating the subcellular fractions as organelles can be damaged and can cause lysis giving incorrect results. Regulation of conditions like the temperature and the pH are important as incorrect conditions could cause the enzymes to denature. Also adding an isotonic buffer not water will help to avoid damage to cell organelles due to osmotic an imbalance (Greenawalt and Vasington, 1968). When it comes to measuring the SDH it is measured indirectly because the succinate dehydrogenase and the fumerate involved in the reaction are both colourless so it is impossible to measure any changes using a spectrophotometer. Instead the absorbance of formazan is measured at 490nm. The formazan is produced by reacting the FADH2 from the SDH reaction with INT which a tetrazolium salt. The formazan produced is red in colour and when dissolved into the ethyl acetate can be extracted and then read on the spectrophotometer (Smith and McFeters, 1997). As ... • 4. Concentration Camp Dachau Research Paper Throughout our country s history, there have been very few generations that have been alive during a time in which our country is not at war. One of the most common wars the United States was a part of was World War II. This war was fought from 1939 until 1945, regarding the acts of certain countries such as Germany, Italy, and Japan. These countries were violating human rights by placing innocent individuals, that they considered to be weak, into concentration camps. Humans of today s society should be required to learn about the conditions of concentration camps, the treatment towards the prisoners in concentration camps, and the aftermath of concentration camps, to prevent the history from repeating itself. The US Seventh Army s 45th Division liberated Dachau. A few days before Dachau was liberated, the SS forced seven thousand of the prisoners of Dachau to the front of the camp. They forced them on a death march from Dachau to Tegernsee on April 27th, 1945. The next day, most of the SS officials abandoned the camp. On April 29th, Dachau was liberated after a small battle between the US and the remaining SS officials. One of the individuals that helped liberate Dachau described his arrival into the camp as Incinerators were used to cremate victims partly to reduce the need for burial but also in an attempt to hide the evidence of mass murder and camp atrocities. At Dachau, American troops arrived to find dead bodies still piled around the camp awaiting cremation or burial ( Dachau ). To get a product or service to the right person or company, a marketer would firstly segment the market, then target a single segment or series of segments, and finally position within the segment(s). Segmentation is essentially the identification of subsets of buyers within a market who share similar needs and who demonstrate similar buyer behavior. Suitability of segment: Is there enough spending power within the segment for the company to sustain itself.? 4. Rockefeller dared not challenge Goldwater in the conservative state, neither did anyone else of much consequence for that matter with Lodge and Nixon still undeclared. Goldwater needed to prove to Republicans that he could win, and Illinois, with 26 electoral votes, was a coveted prize. Feminist groups put Smith s name on the ballot, hoping that she could elicit the kind of challenge that made her famous when she spoke out against Senator McCarthy. For his part, Rockefeller remained as the preferred candidate by county leaders, but they no longer held an optimistic view of his chances. The Japanese did not stop there. Their attacks continued to the Philippines, where U.S. forces were stationed. After some time battling, the U.S. and Filipino troops had to surrender and the Japanese took them over. The Bataan Death March did not only affect the United States, Philippines, and Japanese, it affected how war trials were held and carried out. The question is how did the Bataan Death March affect modern day warfare? The first attack against the U.S. done by the Japanese was the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor just before 8 a.m., it was devastating. The Japanese fighter planes destroyed around 20 naval ships and eight of them were some of the United State s biggest battleships. In other words, your companion has to go through a painful recovery that is inhumane in order for the results to turn out normal , and it cannot be denied. This does not include the unexpected future risk and problems that could arise at any moment just to change your dog s appearance. Although animals cannot express their opinion, research suggests not to allow owners to perform tail docking and ear cropping procedures on their dog because of the risk and health problems affiliated with this painful procedure. The practice performed by a professionally trained veterinarian is greatly debated, but it gained a major breakthrough in 2008 when the AVMA announced it has denounced the practice of ear cropping and tail docking, due to the concern of performing such an intense surgery for a cosmetic purpose instead of an advised medical reason that contains no benefits determined by a professional (Becker). It is logical to say whomever controls the media, controls the mind. Television is a common form of media . A lot of things that we watch has been carefully hand picked and crafted for blacks but not by blacks. There are currently no Black owned television networks. BET is the most prominent network in targeting Black households and reaches over 90 Million households. The Victim Of Fate In Oedipus The King By Sophocles The belief in Greek Philosophy, is the belief that someone s fate is determined by their actions and decisions that have been made in their life. He could have went to the prophecy, instead, he takes action on his own which entirely changes his fate. The prophecy was destined, for Oedipus, to marry his mother and kill his father. Oedipus may be a victim of fate, however he is not innocent and did have to live with his mistake in the outcome of his life. In addition, to his irony of fate, shows that he has a fate of pride. His fate of pride forced him to murder his own father. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found certainly towards him leaving his parents who raised him in order to save them and to avoid fulfilling the prophecy. He fails in this effort, offering some strong proof that he is a victim of fate. Oedipus s pride soon prevents him from seeing the truth. Oedipus is blinded by his pride because he cannot accept his fate due to the certainty that he tries to avoid his own fate. This book serves as a review of racial integration and the changing dynamics in sports from 1890 1980. Charles Martin aims for the reader to understand why it was common place for white southerners to compete against non black ethnic minorities (E.G. Native Americans, Chinese), but an issue when even a single African American was on an opposing team. Benching Jim Crow explains to the reader that the persistence of segregation lay with overarching cultural mentalities left over from the Civil War, but shifts in position came from external (financial), and internal (students and players). Though offering little insight into the legal and political impacts of Jim Crow itself, Martin paints a detailed, but redundant, narrative of the rise and fall of Jim Crow in athletics. ... • 15. Importance Of Public Monuments Public monuments, by contrast, offer an anachronistic experience: a face to face encounter in a specially valued place set aside for collective gathering (Source A). Public monuments provide an escape, or a memory, to people who are willing to sink their teeth into the rich history they provide. More importantly, memorializing has been apart of humanity since the beginning of time, and we use it to praise people or events of importance, as well as events that hold great sorrow. Along with the importance and values that commemorate memorials, comes immense preparation and planning when building a monument. Therefore, it is important that three main factors from sources E, G, and C, are taken into consideration when attempting to build a memorial. Initially, location is the most detrimental factor when planning a memorial. The location should not only please the people of the area, but also correspond to the location of what it is memorializing, as well as cause no harm to the artificial or organic structures in the area. However, some may reject memorials in certain locations because of harmful memories they may evoke. While some may feel this way, most can accept the fact that a memorial is a beneficial way to remember an event, whether it s joyful or glum. • 16. The Effect Of Biofeedback On Basketball Players And Effect... 2. Background Information This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on their on court performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and correct their muscle memory. Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the ability for the central and peripheral nervous systems to communicate in response to an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured including the reaction time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement time: the time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been previous studies that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB) and Electroencephalographic Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations between improvement in performance and responsiveness to stimuli. However, there has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRV BFB) which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in athletes. The most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can perform at their optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is important for achievement in sports, especially in basketball, where there are a multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably, ... Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences Essay Connections Between Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Implications for Education The old paradigm of students as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge has given way to the constructivist belief that students continuously build understandings based on their prior experiences and information. The idea of a fixed intelligence has given way to a more flexible perception of gradual intellectual development dependent on external stimulation (6) Our intelligence, therefore, is our singular, collective ability to act and react in an everchanging world (1) In my first two web papers I researched two defined disorders, ADHD and Autism, following a train of thought which began with a question: given that the ... This notion is well surmised by the Harvard Law of Animal Behavior, according to which, under carefully controlled experimental circumstances, an animal will behave as it damn well pleases (5). This points to the often uncomfortable result of neurological studies: there is no predictable pattern to behavior. Instead of believing that the studies need better controls, some researchers now believe that this unpredictability is itself significant. Biologically speaking, diversity is as fundamental to life as is order. It is neither accidental nor detrimental. It is instead essential to the success of any biological entity (8). A body of research now exists that corroborates externally discernible human variability with an improved understanding of the internal variability present in human nervous systems. Therefore, a more accurate reflection of differences in learning abilities and the resultant perceived intellectual capacity of children is better captured with the phrase learning styles, which connotes not a disability, but a difference. An important and potentially far reaching result of this enhanced understanding of the nervous system is to use it to inform ideas about what constitutes an optimal learning environment for children. If I were conducting the extensive recruitment that the Borgata required, I would have done exactly the same thing and relied on outside expertise and technology to attain recruitment goals. As John Schadler of Hotel and Motel Management states: Instead of the traditional recruitment effort (the standard black and while, all text ad in Sunday s classified section), hotels and resorts are using colorful full page ads in lifestyle magazines, witty dialogue in radio advertising and dramatic visuals on outdoor billboards to attract the best ... Typically, these films directly depict gay love which is studios dislike to handle. Love Is Strange shows audiences the love between two old men could be so simple, just like love between a man and a woman. Likewise, Ben and George look like two kids, and nothing is more important for them than being able to living together. The film is focus on normal life of two old men. Few of studio films want to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some trivial and real matters that affect audiences and their emotion.
