Alan Turing s War
Alan Turing was a renowned modern mathematician and cryptologist who became known as the father
of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his
homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the
world s first computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In fact,
Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent figures of World War II, let alone the 20th century, said
that Turing made the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against Nazi Germany
and its Axis partners. Without Alan Turing, the Allies wouldn t be able to know the Nazi plans and
could very likely have lost the war. Turing, too, developed the idea of ... Show more content on

He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on
frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many
valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classified documents.
Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray. At the time,
homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross indecency. He was then
given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with estrogen hormone injections,
choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was
barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British government. The treatments subjected him
to years of pain and mental relapses from the hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of
chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance slowly began to wither as he became psychologically
traumatized from the drugs. He began to shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one
point stabbed himself in his leg with a knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him
dead. It appeared that Turing committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In
1966, the annual Turing Award was established and given each year to a person for technical
contributions to the computing community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize.

Chaos In The Odyssey
As I began to read Homer s The Odyssey, I must admit that I was searching for acts of chaos in the
most general form. I was looking for Homer to express his views of chaos vividly and distinctly.
However, Homer does something different. He imbeds his imagery of chaos in the journey of
Odysseus s son (Telemachus) to avenge his father by getting rid of his mother s suitors, and by
bringing word of his father s return back to Ithaca. One chaotic point that stood out to me in Homer s
The odyssey was when Telemachus was expressing his fear of living in his own home because he was
afraid his mother s suitors would kill him They are eating us out of house and home, and will kill me
someday (184). This was a chaotic point because during the time

The novel of the Candide gave the introduction through giving out the setting of the story. The setting
of the story is essential among the reader so that they could easily understand when the novel

Candide s last statements show how one should be responsible in his or her actions in order for him or

are hindrances that I am experiencing, I have to be faithful and strong so that I could succeed in my

The Marketing Strategy Of Desnoes And Geddes
Marketing communications are intended to both inform and persuade a target audience, with a view to
influence the behaviour of that group. The behaviour of interest to organizations can range from
encouraging owners to adopt improved practices or to produce a particular product or service. As has
been said on other occasions, each element of the marketing mix must be designed so as to further the
overall marketing strategy, and this includes marketing communications.
Desnoes and Geddes Limited (D G) produces one of Jamaica s best known exports, Red Stripe beer.
They are proud of the fact that Red Stripe is Jamaica s coolest beer. It also brews other beverages for
the local market such as Red Stripe Light, Dragon Stout, Malta, Smirnoff Ice, Guinness, and Heineken
brand names. Only a small portion of D G s shares are publicly traded. British beverage group Diageo
PLC is the ultimate parent company. It has a 58 percent holding in D G through Udiam Holdings AB

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Analysis
My Papa s Waltz is about the speaker s daddy who has had a liitle too much whiskey to drin, and he
begins to waltz with his son. The dad is so drunk until his son was dizzy smelling the whiskey on his
breath. The waltz was so clumsy the pans were sliding from the shelf. The mom looks to be
disappointed and rather irritated with the father while he is dancing with his son. This tory can be
viewed as a happy father, even though drunk, is just having fun with his son by dancing. On the other,
by the reaction of the mother it can be viewed as a dysfunctional family who is torn by alchol and
abuse.
In Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night the speaker proclaims taht when old men are at the end of
thir lives they should not be calm about it. He feels that it s only natural for them to leave this world
frantic, shouting, and crying in a rage because it is their time to die. At the end of the poem, it is
revealed that the speaker s own father is dying, and he doesn t want him to die without a fight. He
doens t want his father to go into his own death in a peaceful state of mind. The message that the
speaker is trying to get across is that when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Regulatory Issues Of The Private Sector
Regulatory Issues
Some breaches goes way beyond the when and how bad the breach is and what agencies will get
involved. The fear is not only about their own customers, clients and shareholders but from agencies
like the SEC, FTC, FCC, CFPB and others alike. All have different agendas, regulations and standards
on how they approach a cyber breach situation. The major fear for the private sector is regulatory
laws. What if they are not following federal regulatory requirements? This is a risk that some
companies are not willing to take to share information about a threat they may have found. The
agencies feared the most is the FTC and the SEC.

(Federal Trade Commission)
The FTC is not the only agency that has issued some kind of guidelines for organizations to follow
when it involves data security. The latest data breaches involving retail giants like Target and Neman
Marcus, the Payment Card Industry Council issued security guidelines that are stricter and are meant
for any retailers, banks or credit card companies that process credit card transactions. Noncompliance
of the security guidelines could result in fines. Many agencies have increased their oversight for
security measures that companies are expected to follow and maintain. In 2011 the Security and
Exchange Commission (SEC) released guidance for public traded companies regarding their
obligation to release and disclose incidents of cyberattacks. (Clarke Olcott)
Securing cyberspace is one of the most important and urgent challenges of our time. In light of the
growing threat and the national security and economic ramifications of successful attacks against
American businesses, it is essential that corporate leaders know their responsibility for managing and
disclosing information security risk. (Rockefeller, Menendez, Whitehouse, Warner, Blumenthal)

The Role Of Research On The Field Of Education
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to identify the role that research has in the field of education and to clarify
how research is used by education stakeholders. This paper refers to ten articles in order to provide
rationale for the thesis that education is influenced at all hierarchical levels by research, although it is
used differently by each level based on the desired outcome and the requirements of each level s
particular stakeholders. Two categories of research are explored in this paper: traditional and action
research. Traditional research is generally assumed to be conducted by a researcher who controls all
aspects of the research study, from the formation of a research question to the presentation of findings.

If all parties work in symbiosis with the shared goal of creating and supporting a system that grants
students the highest quality of education possible, then certainly research plays an integral part in that.
The Role of Research in Education Before exploring the role of research in education, however, the
nature and objective of education must be defined. Education is not so much an institution working in
a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which work in concert
toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are equipped to
participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education there exists a
multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations and who have
their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. Given all that to be true,
research is a diagnostic tool that can be used by stakeholders to identify and remedy shortcomings
within the educational system and also to seek out ways of improving and refining existing processes.
Literature Review
Research and the Educational Hierarchy Rinaldo (2005) describes the role of research in this way:
Research provides us with a variety of perspectives from which to see things and find a way of
empirically analyzing our findings. It enables us to see from where we have come, provides us with a
description of where we are now and gives us some

How Does Beowulf Fight With Grendel s Mother
In the poem, Beowulf, the main character acknowledges God as his guardian. Beowulf in the poem
recalls fighting with Grendel s mother, he notes, The flight would have been straightway if God had
not guarded me (Beowulf 56) . In this quote, Beowulf acknowledged God and showed his humbleness
for God realizing that Grendel s mother could have killed him in battle. According to the Bible, First
Peter 5 5 6 it notes, Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you
in due time (King James Bible). The quote s meaning, with the quote on page 56 emboldens believers

The defeat of Grendal s mother and the conquering of her land, gave Beowulf another challenge, the
dragon. Beowulf mission ahead was to face the dragon. On page 64 it states: By this there went inside
a certain man[ who made his way near to the heathen hoard; his hand took a cup, large, a shining
treasure. The dragon did not afterwards conceal it though in his sleep he was tricked by the craft of the
thief. The people discovered the neighboring folk that he was swollen with rage (Beowulf 64). The
quote showed a man who lived in the village stealing a golden cup with gold coins in it from the
dragon. The dragon discovered the cup was stolen and terrorized and killed the people within the city.
Beowulf aware he was an older man knew there was a possibility that he could die in battle. He was
also aware he had to defend his city from the dragon. The dragon however, was able to get the upper
hand, and burned down Beowulf s house. Beowulf at this point did not hesitation to challenge the
dragon. Beowulf entered into battle with the dragon, however, he embarked on some difficulties . His
sword snapped; while in battle with the dragon, and fortunately, his friend Wiglaf came to his aid.
Together they managed to kill the dragon, however, during the fight; the dragon wounded Beowulf.

Mark Antony s Strengths
In Julius Caesar there are many noble Romans that come about throughout the play. The most noble
Roman that was in the whole play is Mark Antony. Mark Antony is the most noblest because he has
both strengths and weaknesses. The two major strengths he has is holding it together and telling his
people that Caesar is dead and who has killed him, also he is strong when he gets an army together to
fight Brutus. The only weakness he has is being very angry and falling apart when he finds out that
Caesar is dead. Mark Antony was very noble when he had to tell his people at Caesar had been

Pevelance and Effects of Rape
The Prevalence and Effects of Rape
The prevalence of rape is a major social problem that plagues America and other countries around the
world daily. Victims of rape are psychologically, and sometimes physically damaged from being
sexually assaulted. Although it would seem that it is a sexually motivated crime, rape is actually an act
of violence in which sex is used as a weapon against a powerless victim (Kendall 197). Neither
rapists, nor rape victims are concentrated to one specific class or race. However, American women
aged 16 24 are considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, and
Davidoff 173). The majority of rapists are age twenty five and younger. Almost all rape cases have
female victims with male offenders. Men account for only 10% of all rape victims, and in some cases
their rapist is also male. In regards to statistics, rape appears rare because of victims fears that they
will not be believed, or have stigmas about rape now attached to them(Egan and Wilson 345).
According to Wolitzk Taylor et al., approximately 1 in 7 US women have been raped in their lifetimes.
Estimates from the 1990s and 2000s indicate that only 16% to 20% of forcible rape victims report the
rape to law enforcement (Wolitzky Taylor et al. 582). The reason for the disproportion of rape victims
to rape reports is likely the vast acceptance of rape myths in society. Rape myths are stereotyped, or
false beliefs about rape, rape victims, and rapists (Egan

A Contrastive Analysis of Compliments in American English...
When a student gets a high score, his teacher usually says: Good job! . When a child automatically
cleans up the room after playing, her parents are likely to say: You are very good . When you go to
school wearing a new shirt, you probably hear from your friends: That shirt looks nice on you . Those
utterances are called compliments which are used to show that someone likes someone else s
appearance, belongings, or work etc. Due to different cultural background and social values, English
and Vietnamese native speakers have different norms of complimenting as well as responding to
compliments. In this essay, I will discuss the notion of compliment made in American English and
Vietnamese in terms of topics, formulas, and responses. First ... Show more content on

For example, when a host prepares a good meal, an English speaking guest will say The meal was
delicious . In the same situation, a Vietnamese guest will say Chị nấu ăn ngon quá! (You cook so
well!) Formulas of compliment Formulas of compliment drew much concern from linguists.
According to Maines and Wofson (1981), nine popular ways to give compliment are: NP is/looks
really ADJ. (Your blouse is beautiful) I really like/love NP. (I like your car) PRO is (really) (a) ADJ
NP. (That s a really nice wall hanging.) You V (a) really ADJ NP. (You did a really good job) You V
(NP) (really) ADV. (You really handled that situation well.) You have (a) ADJ NP. (You have such
beautiful hair) What a ADJ NP! (What a lovely baby you have!) ADJ NP! (Nice game!) Isn t NP ADJ
(Isn t your ring beautiful?) The first three are also the most commonly used structures in many
countries worldwide. From the examples in part 2, we can easily see that Vietnamese also follow these
formulaic structures when we want to show our appreciation to hearers. One difference, however, is
that unlike American, Vietnamese rarely use the first person pronoun but the second person pronoun in
their compliments. That is to say they will not say I really like your new haircut . A more appropriate
way to express the same idea in Vietnamese is Your

Contributive Causes Of The American Revolution
Without the American Revolution, the United States would not exist.
Before the American Revolution, the nation was a collection of 13 British colonies that were united by
the British monarchy. During this time it was ruled by British Parliament which was 3500 miles away
and a journey by ship that was 27 days long in the ideal situation but could be up to 6 8 weeks. All of
the colonies with the exception of Georgia were formed by people trying to escape some form of
persecution. One of the main contributive factors to the American Revolution was the Intolerable Acts
(or otherwise known in Great Britian as the Coercive Acts); which included the Boston Port Act, the
Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act.
The Boston Port Act was passed by parliament on March 31, 1774. This Act was designed to punish
the inhabitants of Boston, Massachusetts for the incident that would later become known as the
Boston Tea Party. The British Parliament demanded that the city s residents pay for the nearly $1
million worth (in today s money) of tea dumped in to Boston Harbor during the Boston Tea Party. This
act closed the port of Boston so tightly that the colonists could not even bring hay in from
Charlestown to give to their starving horses. Only food and firewood were permitted into the port. The
events leading up to this act included the Boston Massacre which occurred on December 16, 1773.

Air that is utilized in the production of LABSA has to be cooled first and then dried to ensure its

Celsius. This means that the air is dry as if the air was cooled down to 40 degrees Celsius. In practice

U.s. Military Defense And Education
Security is most highest priority in every country but To nurture a secure nation, federal spending
must be balanced among military defense and programs that provide economic security, such as
education and health care . A worthy portion of any country s budget is spent on defence . To some
extent it is not a good idea for us to spend money on defending ourselves from imaginary enemies. We
spend significant sums of money preparing for wars that we later create and ignore the needs of our
own country. There are also other important sectors which needs to develop to bring economic growth.

military conflict. Some countries need a strong military more than others, depending on their strength
amongst other countries. The army also provides different job opportunities to locals who leave near

ammunition, guns, tanks, and other supplies need during combat. In simple terms, some people rely on
the military for work so that they can provide for their families. A military that is trained and funded
by the government can provide defense for a nation in the event of military or political conflict. In
other words, just having an army can make other countries reconsider invading your country as they
can assess whether they stand a chance to win or lose their platoons and expend a lot of resources and
reputation. Additionally, having a strong military can allow some nations to mobilize their personnel
to help others during military conflict. For instance The U.S. continues to give Israel military aid to
the tune of $3 billion every year, with plans to expand aid to $4 billion annually.

The large trucks, airplanes, and even the factories practices, machinery and the disposing of animal

the federal government should mandate a program and reduce farmer s subsidies to manage farmer s
chemical fertilizer and animal waste. Also, the federal government should regulate farmers to reduce
their tons of soil erosion and implement dietary strategies to reduce methane emission to the
atmosphere. The federal government should pass a law so farmers and companies can implement
dietary strategies to their cattle because it will reduce the carbon dioxide and methane gasses released

How I Learned A Great Deal About My Country s Culture
Even though I was born and lived in Jamaica for the first seven years of my life I have been somewhat
ignorant to its culture and because of this assignment I was able to learn a great deal about my country
s culture through another s encounters and observations. Not only did I learn about my country but I
gained new knowledge about my mother and her experiences as well. Her name is Kayla and she was
born in Kingston, Jamaica. She began by introducing her culture s background. Jamaica, originally
settled on by Taino settlers, was named Xaymaca meaning land of wood and water. The slaves brought
over to the land were of course from Africa which is why we have adopted many of their customs of
which I will elaborate later. As she shared with me her experiences she also expounded on the norm of
such things in Jamaican culture. As a child in her free time, Kayla loved to play with her brothers. She
climbed trees, played marbles and basically did whatever they did and although she was a tomboy she
always had fun. It is very common in Jamaica for children to be seen playing outside at all times of the
day. Neighborhood children come together and play games such brown girl in the ring, Dandy Shandy
(dodge ball), What can you do Puncienella likkle fella, cricket, Simon says, stucky freezy stucky
ketchy (freeze tag), and mother may I. The names may be different but the concepts of the games are
very similar to ones played around the world. From her childhood she also

Justice in Plato s The Republic Essay
Plato creates a seemingly invincible philosopher in The Republic. Socrates is able to refute all
arguments presented before him with ease. The discussion on justice in Book I of The Republic is one
such example. Socrates successfully refutes each different view of justice presented by Cephalus,
Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus. Socrates has not given us a definitive definition of justice, nor has
he refuted all views of justice, but as far as we are concerned in Book I, he is able to break down the
arguments of his companions.
Cephalus is the first to give his opinion of justice as simply speaking the truth and giving back what
one takes. In even simpler terms, it is to do the right thing. (Republic 331) Socrates argues that to give

Justice is the advantage of the stronger according to Thrasymachus. He even goes a step farther to say
that injustice is stronger and freer than justice, yet justice is the advantage of the stronger. Socrates
shows that justice is in the receiver of it, not the provider. According to Socrates, a just man will be the
healthier and happier man because he is wiser.
So it is not a question of Socrates refuting the views presented to him by these three men, but one of
the completeness of these views. Does Plato give each of these views a proper defense, or is he trying
to build up his glorified version of Socrates? Cephalus is not given much exposure in Book I so his
argument on justice is somewhat limited. But for Socrates, refuting a statement as simple as giving
back what one takes does not take very long. Cephalus s view is given its due consideration and his
purpose here is more than just to introduce an opinion of justice. Cephalus introduces the key subject
of justice by talking about leading a good life. Socrates is able to tie this to justice and later tie justice
to the soul.
Polemarchus and Thrasymachus are given more time in Book I. Polemarchus continues the argument
his father was making and takes it a step further to include discussions on friends and enemies.
Socrates is able to convince his opponent to agree with him, as he does with all his opponents. Are

Rhetorical Analysis Of How Not To Respond To Virginia Tech-II
In his essay, How Not to Respond to Virginia Tech II , write Brett A. Sokolow uses the campus
shooting at Virginia Tech to expose a serious problem, mental health. He tells readers where their
focus needs to be shifted. He has two goals: to misconfigure the idea that campus safety is at risk, and
to bring forth the issue of mental health. By breaking down proposed campus safety ideas, asking
rhetorical questions, and reiterating his main message, Sokolow effectively convinces college
universities and the general public that the dilemma at hand is not campus safety, but rather mental
health. For Sokolow to properly criticize the proposed campus safety ideas, he must first acknowledge
them. Without doing so would make him seem extremely biased

Upper Peninsula Mining Essay
Economic and Environmental Qualms; Upper Peninsula Mining Mining; the life blood of the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan, which became renowned for its massive supplies of iron, nickel, and copper
ores. The sanctity of the residents living in Northern Michigan were dependent on the flow of natural
resources coming from the mines, where many flocked to the growing cities to find work. Despite the
wealth the region found in mining, it vanished once the prices of these metals dropped, where most
mines were abandoned. Mining has once again taken root in the Upper Peninsula, with promises of
jobs and greater economic and environmental security. The impacts of such promises once caused the

The dependency on mining during the 19th and 20th centuries crippled the Upper Peninsula s
economy, causing a diaspora of migrants looking for work to head to lower Michigan, or other states.
Mines began to close as ore prices heavily decreased, where Northern Michigan s economy crumbled,
towns became deserted, and the wealth the peninsula had once seen dwindled. Despite this, the Upper
Peninsula s economy has been on the rebound, as Over the last forty years, average income per
resident... has risen 71 percent, almost as fast as the national growth rate and much faster than the
growth rate across Michigan. In addition the total income received by all residents together grew 65
percent in inflation adjusted terms. Jobs expanded by a third (1). The economic sustenance from
mining would only incur further economic degradation by pushing the reliance of mining onto a
community still struggling from when it was taken away. Mining is still profitable for the region, and
would conclude with a starting point for the Northern Michigan economies to gain income to plan
greater economic outputs, where The Eagle Mine... will pump $4 billion into Marquette County over
its eight year lifespan and employ about 300 while generating economic activity that will create 1,200
additional jobs (2). The lifespan of a mine gives the region a timeframe of when they will expect to be
forced to search for different fiscal opportunities, or give them a window of how long they have to
find new generators of income to subsidize their current economic fallings. Mining reserves would be
able to prolong the life of the mine, furthering the amount of time the region has to structure their
economies on other sustainable means, as unlike most goods and services, copper is an exhaustible
resource concluding that there are therefore limits to cumulative copper production

school s students, what expectations, assumptions, and prejudgments do you have? Where did these
come from, and why do you think you have them?
For my ASL hours I observed two different environments. The first environment was an Adapted
Sports Night here at the University of Texas. Prior to arriving to the event a couple of prejudgments I
had was that, majority of the athletes there would be from recreational sport teams in the area and that
the games would be pretty simple to understand. Essentially, I thought that they would show me how
to play different sports and how they are adapted to their wheelchairs or their particular disability. I
believe that these assumptions came from not realizing that adapted sports is more than just playing
basketball or rugby in a basic wheelchair.
Sammy s house was the second environment in which I completed ASL hours at. Sammy s house is a
childcare center that provides inclusion of children without disabilities and children with disabilities
and medically fragile children. Upon my first day at Sammy s House I did not have many
prejudgments other than I expected that children who attended Sammy s house would be composed of
mainly disabled children. The reason I thought this was because I saw Sammy s House as a childcare
location for medically fragile and disabled children and even though I

The Cabin
The Cabin In the middle of nowhere, clear back on a dead end road in a tiny town called Outing, there
is a cabin. It is in Minnesota. When you picture a cabin in your head you think of a log cabin built
entirely of wood that has a big fireplace in the living room and deer heads hanging on the walls. This
cabin was different. It was a small, run down white house that my family has called the cabin, way
before I was born. It had a small fireplace in the living room that I have never seen be used and dead,
stuffed fish on plaques hanging on the wall from years ago. It had two garages that were joined
together with a door like an adjoining hotel room, but they were both detached from the house. Down
the street from the cabin there is a liquor and grocery store, a post office, a gas station, and a small
shop called Owls and Things. Owls and Things is a souvenir shop, but they sell ice cream as well.
Every day we were at the cabin our family would walk down the street and get ice cream. It was by far
the most favorite part of the day, not only because I love ice cream, but because I loved looking
through the glass at all of the different ice cream flavor choices and pondering about which flavor I
was going to pick that day. When I was younger it just seemed so magical and exciting for me to go
and get that ice cream.

Various people would think marketing would not be key within businesses, however, businesses
require customers so that revenue can be generated and they can branch out to different countries. TV
advertisements along with commercials and posters are used by companies so customers can see what

businesses but does not compare with the supremacy that human resources and finance embrace in the

Putnam. In the battle of Fort Wagner Gillmore also worked closely with Rear Adm. John A. Dahlgren
s Federal fleet.
The first battle of Fort Wagner took place early morning on July 10th and 11th, 1863, where the Union
Army began with an amphibious assault from the south which drove all Confederate forces back to
Fort Wagner. During this battle the Union Army captured 150 Confederate soldiers. Some historians
speculate that Fort Wagner could have possibly been destroyed if Gillmore wouldn t have rested that
day of the 10th when he drove the Confederates back to the Fort. Because Gillmore rested after the
first battle it gave Taliaferro more time to reinforce the Fort for the following day where the
Confederate army repelled an attack against the 7th Connecticut infantry. This mistake cost the Union
army 330 men and the Confederate side only lost 12 men.
At 8:15am on July 18, 1863 the second battle of Fort Wagner commenced. It was initiated by four
federal land batteries and the Federal Fleet that shelled from the sea using 11 ships to include the USS
New Ironsides, a veritable floating gun platform sheathed in iron. The Confederate soldiers incased all

Risk Factors for Multiple Sclerosis
Familial and heritability studies have suggested a role for genetics in MS (11, 12). According to these
studies, MS does not result from gene mutations or aberrations; rather, polymorphisms in a number of
genes may predispose people to MS. These polymorphisms act independently and each can contribute
a little. Several studies have identified susceptibility genes on chromosome 6p21 and 17q22 in the
coding regions for major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) (11 14). Also the interleukin 7
receptor (IL 7R) gene alteration (15 17) and two single nucleotide polymorphisms within the
interleukin 2 receptor alpha (IL 2Ra) coding region have been linked to MS risk (18).
Pathophysiologically, these polymorphisms might have effects on the immune system.
There is no doubt that genetics has revolutionized our understanding about the human diseases.
Regarding MS; however, the practical application of these data has not been acquired yet. Gene
screening for finding patients prone to MS, is neither ethical nor scientifically supported.
In another way, genetic engineering might find some ways to treat MS or prevent further worsening of
the disease. This might work as a secondary or tertiary prevention strategy. Gene manipulation in cell
therapy studies have been experimented in animal models. This type of researches, not directly based
on the mentioned genetic background of MS, shows the effects of administering genetically
engineered cells in correction of some pathogenetic

The Key Engine Of Economic And Social Progress Essay
The Software is used in every detail of social life and is becoming the key engine of economic and

The Perils Of Keeping Monkey As Pets

You think you re ready for a pet? I wouldn t monkey around with that decision!
Background/Context Paragraph
How cool would it be to own a exotic pet, like a monkey! As stated by i.life.science.com, between
5,000 and 7,000 tigers are kept as pets. That s more than the amount in the wild, being only 3,200.
WOW! Additionally, monkeys are also very popular pets, the National Geographic article titled The
Perils of Keeping Monkey as Pets , states that about 15,000 primates are kept as pets in the USA.
There are many different types of exotic pets kept worldwide.
Chimps and monkeys are very similar animals, yet they are also very different. Chimpanzees are
considered great apes. Great Apes tend to generaly have bigger brains and bodies than monkeys.
Chimps are more related to humans then monkeys They are similar when it comes to being primates.
Today we will be discussing both chimpanzees and monkeys as pets. Although, we will mostly be
talking about monkeys!
Most monkeys kept as pets are pulled from their mothers and taken in by breeders, zoos, and other
animal selling locations. The monkeys are very young when they are taken in. They are eventually put
up for sale and bought once they reach an ideal age. Jay Weston from Huffpost LA who owned two
monkeys says, No, I do not recommend anyone ever to keep a monkey as a pet.

How Industrialization and Urbanization at the Turn of the...
At the turn of the century, Industrialization and Urbanization brought prosperity to Canada and
Canadians by improving and altering their livelihoods for both positive and negative reasons.
According to the authors, Industrialization and urbanization led to the growth of the economy,
development of the east, west and central cities, increase of rural to urban migration, the rise of the
middle class and the recognition of women in the work force. Financial Investment through banks,
foreign, government and private investors led to a boost in the Canadian economy. (Francis, Jones,

However, it can be argued that mechanization caused the loss of job opportunities to Canadians in
rural areas because human and manual labour was replaced by machines that did twice as much work
and functioned better. An example of this is the iron chink that replaced Asian workers (Francis, Jones,
Smith 139). Due to Urbanization, a lot of Canadians were educated and trained in multiple trades
according to the authors. Women were educated in factory, clerical and teaching professions while the
men worked in the mines and construction. This huge step towards female recognition in the
workplace was a big contrast from their previous roles of home making and taking care of domestic
chores. As stated by the authors, women were eventually allowed to practice professional careers. An
example of this is Emily Jennings Stowe who became the first female Canadian to set up a hospital in
Toronto whilst her daughter, Augusta Stowe became the first female to receive a Canadian medical
degree (Francis, Jones, Smith 158). Industrialization caused an upsurge of immigration in the urban
centers leading to the acceleration of urbanization (Francis, Jones, Smith 137). However, this rapid
population growth soon started to cause problems. These include the emergence of slums in highly
populated centers, lack of proper sanitation, deterioration of health and the rise of prohibition evident

The Revolt And The Sepoy Rebellion
Throughout the year s many historians have compilated and examined why Indian people were so
desperate to gain back their independence from the British Empire during their rule over India, from
1612 to 1947. The reasoning can most definitely be found as the British discriminated against Indian
people as they believe that they were inferior; it is no surprise that Indian people fought so hard for
their independence. Throughout the British Raj, they placed and put forward unbelievably racist acts
and laws which discriminated against Indian people. Which of course led to Indian s rebelling against
the British rule and thus many massacres and rebellions occurred during their ruling. Thus, answering

Herbert Asquith, the Liberal Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, clearly believed that the massacre
was catastrophic and sinful, there has never been such an incident in the whole annals of Anglo Indian
history nor, I believe, in the history of our Empire from its very inception down to the present day ... It
is one of the worst outrages in the whole of our history (AP reference). Though all Dyer could say in
his defence was my duty... my horrible, dirty duty. (AP REFERENCE). Some say, with fair reasoning,
that this massacre was the turning point for modern India, some even saying that this was the prelude
to Gandhi s commitment to his cause (Pletcher, n.d.).
The cause of the Sepoy Rebellion, the first serious rebellion the British faced, can be traced back to
the unfair mistreatment of Indian soldiers in the British India Army, as the British greased the Lee
Enfield rifle with animal fat which was highly offensive to their religious beliefs. As well as this, the
wealth annexation in 1856 of Oudh (Heitzman Worden, n.d.). The rebel soldiers marched to the Delhi

When prices got so high that peasants and other third estate citizens couldn t afford food there was an
inevitable uprising. The peasantry became a class with the ambition to counteract social inequity and
put a stop to escalating food prices. This unrest caused a riot, known as the bread riot, which became a
central cause to the French Revolution. Economics also played an important role in the French
Revolution. In France there was an abundance of debt and taxation. The French monarchy managed
their fiscal affairs by using an unequal system of taxation, borrowing money, or selling noble titles and
other privileges. This led to a long running fiscal debt. France could not solely rely on tariffs to
generate income. Although other countries had higher taxation rates, the burden on the common
people was greater in France. Peasants and other third estates were taxed harshly which in good times
was burdensome and in bad times it was devastating. Nobility and clergy were exempted from paying
taxes. This left the peasants, wage earners, and the professional and business classes with the burden
of taxes. This burden caused the unrest, which eventually led to the French Revolution. Many things
caused the French Revolution. I believe that absolutism and privilege, famine, and economics were
three of the most significant factors causing the French Revolution. These three elements led people to
be unhappy with the current government and want to overthrow it.

Safe Water Drinking And Pollution
In today s society, we face a large set of problems that affect each and every person every single day.
Throughout the semester, there have been several different instances that have shown the importance
of truly understanding what these issues are and how some of these issues can be fixed. The main
environmental issue that I am going to discuss I this paper is safe water drinking and pollution, as
pollution directs towards to the hazardous we do to it by simply polluting as well as how some of our
pollution affects the air and living conditions that we face. I chose this environmental issue because I
find it to be one of the largest issues that the whole world faces, especially here in Northwest Indiana,

There are such strategies that must help address any concerns, foster development in new strategies,
protect the water, and work together in developing access to the water systems. These initiatives of
people who are looking to ensure safe water is continuously looked over by larger groups of people
and acts such as the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, Safe Drinking Water Act, and even people
like the Natural resources Conservation Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. What
people sometimes forget is that under these acts, while there are people who are looking to help
support these initiatives, the people who embrace the world must practice better strategies that will
embrace these acts and support groups to help ensure that water will be safe for drinking. Many
people forget that water is not just a free good to us for use at any time, because if the water supply
were to ever be completely damaged and polluted, the outreach for fresh, safe water to drink would be
minimal, therefore a struggle for people in America as well as around the world. Water is arguably the
most important natural resource to us here on Earth and should not be used and abused. There are
several different things that people can work towards to help make things better. The main three types
of ways to help assist all these acts the government and other support groups can do is to advertise
support groups, advertise about contamination and also advertise

God s Spirits Of Lust
Human Sacrifices
Satan s spirits of lust emerge in the pagan gods Baal, Molech, and Chemosh that are all mentioned in
the Bible; specifically, their practices often included distorted sexual acts, human sacrifices,
cannibalism, and the eating of blood that were distinctively traits of devil worship. Baal worship
became abundant throughout much of the ancient Middle East; concurrently, in early societies Baal
has a long history of perverted sex that is akin to Pan Worship within his cult rituals. Mount Hermon
turned out to be one of the major centers of Baal/Pan worship that involved the brutality of human
sacrifices. Baal obtained other god s identity, such as the horned Molech; well known for child
sacrifices. The various names and epithets of Baal occurring in the Old Testament and elsewhere were
derived from his various aspects and the localities of his worship. For the majority of people, the
cruelty of tormenting and murdering children becomes too devastating, believing that it just could not
have happened. On the contrary, the Bible s staunch position states numerous times concerning these
killings, and references how the Israelites served the idols of the heathen.
In 1870, Sir Charles Warren happened to be exploring in the Lebanon region on the summit of Mount
Hermon and found the ruins of a temple believed to belong to Baal. Similarly, this could be relevant to
the Bible s stating they ...destroy all their molten

Rap American Culture
Rap music has taken its shape over the last six decades, starting in the 60s and still modernizing today.
Over the last fifty years a new era has developed in American culture. This era is modern rap. Rap has
taken over modern culture as a popular form of music for many different age groups. The rap industry
has been booming for the past three decades. With what I have said, this leads me to my research
question. How has modern rap come to be in American culture? Rap is actually a very old term dating
back to 15th century Europe. The term rap originally meant to strike or hit something. ( Cole Mize
Studios ) However, centuries later the word began to adapt a new meaning. By the 60s, rap began to
be used in the black community as a slang word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Female rappers also play a role in rap. From the early groups of Salt n Pepa to the new sensation Iggy
Iselias. These female artists just add more diversity to the genre. Rap is still diverse as ever. With a
new type of lesser known rap has begun to emerge. This style being Gospel or Christian rap. Some of
the best known Christian rap artist being Lecrae and tobyMac. ( Wikipedia ) I completely agree that
these are the two main artists since they have been very prominent for a while. Andy Mineo has
become popular and many people leave him out of the conversation. This genre of rap is so different
from all other forms of rap. It is used as a way of expressing protestant traditions. ( Wikipedia )
Christian rap has grown popular enough to get its own categories at Christian Award shows such as,
GMA Dove Awards and Stellar Awards. ( Wikipedia ) However, Christian rap does not have as diverse
of an audience as the mainstream rap audience. Christian rap typically is followed by the white church
going population. So, why exactly is learning about the history of rap important? It is important
because it has become such a large part of our modern culture. Learning more about it is necessary to
further understand why it is such a large part of our society. Some people may disapprove of what rap
has come to be due to its current negative connotation.

The Essentials of Holistic Health Life force energy:
The source of human life comes from an integrated and intelligent energy known as life force energy,
which sustains the life of body organs, cells, and tissues, as well as supports the spiritual entity of the
soul. This invisible life force energy flows freely throughout the body to give an individual not only
health and vitality by efficiently transporting oxygen and nutrients to different parts of the body, but
also an expression of the inner self. The flow of this life giving energy follows an organized pattern by
way of meridians connecting different parts of the human body. This life force energy has different
names for different cultures: the Chinese call it qi; the Japanese, lei; the Hindus, prana; and the
Greeks, pneuma. But they all mean the same thing: the essence of life.
Any blockage or diminution of life force energy may result in reduction in oxygen supply, deficiency
in nutrients intake, and accumulation of waste products produced, and hence the beginning of
degeneration and disease. Disease symptoms are only signs of diminution of life force energy

Relationship Between The European Union ( Eu ) And The...
Abstract This paper analyzes the multifaceted and ever evolving relationship between the European
Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO). With the globalization of security
concerns and with the series of major terrorist attacks beginning on September 11, 2001, cooperation
between these two major powers is becoming increasingly important and hotly debated. In this day
and age international security is of the utmost importance. The world leaders in international security
are the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU). This paper explores
the relationship between these two institutions in the context of security policies, members, global
effect, and the participation and influence of the United States.
Introduction A separation has existed between the EU and NATO since there founding s, however,
with the growing realization that the concerns facing the international community can no longer be
managed by these organizations individually the issue of how the relationship between these
organizations will progress is being pushed into the forethought of political debate. Given the extent
of the transatlantic relationship, congressional foreign policy activities, and interests frequently
involve Europe, the relationship between the United States and the European Union (EU) has become
increasingly significant in recent years. This relationship is likely to grow even more important. In this
context, Members of Congress

  • 2. Alan Turing s War Alan Turing was a renowned modern mathematician and cryptologist who became known as the father of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the world s first computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In fact, Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent figures of World War II, let alone the 20th century, said that Turing made the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against Nazi Germany and its Axis partners. He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classified documents. Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray. At the time, homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross indecency. He was then given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with estrogen hormone injections, choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British government. The treatments subjected him to years of pain and mental relapses from the hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance slowly began to wither as he became psychologically traumatized from the drugs. He began to shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one point stabbed himself in his leg with a knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him dead. It appeared that Turing committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In 1966, the annual Turing Award was established and given each year to a person for technical contributions to the computing community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize. I was looking for Homer to express his views of chaos vividly and distinctly. However, Homer does something different. He imbeds his imagery of chaos in the journey of Odysseus s son (Telemachus) to avenge his father by getting rid of his mother s suitors, and by bringing word of his father s return back to Ithaca. One chaotic point that stood out to me in Homer s The odyssey was when Telemachus was expressing his fear of living in his own home because he was afraid his mother s suitors would kill him They are eating us out of house and home, and will kill me someday (184). The Role Of Research On The Field Of Education Abstract The purpose of this paper is to identify the role that research has in the field of education and to clarify how research is used by education stakeholders. This paper refers to ten articles in order to provide rationale for the thesis that education is influenced at all hierarchical levels by research, although it is used differently by each level based on the desired outcome and the requirements of each level s particular stakeholders. Two categories of research are explored in this paper: traditional and action research. If all parties work in symbiosis with the shared goal of creating and supporting a system that grants students the highest quality of education possible, then certainly research plays an integral part in that. The Role of Research in Education Before exploring the role of research in education, however, the nature and objective of education must be defined. Education is not so much an institution working in a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which work in concert toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are equipped to participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education there exists a multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations and who have their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. Given all that to be true, research is a diagnostic tool that can be used by stakeholders to identify and remedy shortcomings within the educational system and also to seek out ways of improving and refining existing processes. Literature Review Research and the Educational Hierarchy Rinaldo (2005) describes the role of research in this way: Research provides us with a variety of perspectives from which to see things and find a way of empirically analyzing our findings. • 12. Pevelance and Effects of Rape The Prevalence and Effects of Rape The prevalence of rape is a major social problem that plagues America and other countries around the world daily. Victims of rape are psychologically, and sometimes physically damaged from being sexually assaulted. Although it would seem that it is a sexually motivated crime, rape is actually an act of violence in which sex is used as a weapon against a powerless victim (Kendall 197). Neither rapists, nor rape victims are concentrated to one specific class or race. However, American women aged 16 24 are considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, and Davidoff 173). The majority of rapists are age twenty five and younger. Almost all rape cases have female victims with male offenders. Men account for only 10% of all rape victims, and in some cases their rapist is also male. In regards to statistics, rape appears rare because of victims fears that they will not be believed, or have stigmas about rape now attached to them(Egan and Wilson 345). According to Wolitzk Taylor et al., approximately 1 in 7 US women have been raped in their lifetimes. Estimates from the 1990s and 2000s indicate that only 16% to 20% of forcible rape victims report the rape to law enforcement (Wolitzky Taylor et al. 582). The reason for the disproportion of rape victims to rape reports is likely the vast acceptance of rape myths in society. Socrates has not given us a definitive definition of justice, nor has he refuted all views of justice, but as far as we are concerned in Book I, he is able to break down the arguments of his companions. So it is not a question of Socrates refuting the views presented to him by these three men, but one of the completeness of these views. Does Plato give each of these views a proper defense, or is he trying to build up his glorified version of Socrates? By breaking down proposed campus safety ideas, asking rhetorical questions, and reiterating his main message, Sokolow effectively convinces college universities and the general public that the dilemma at hand is not campus safety, but rather mental health. Upper Peninsula Mining Essay Economic and Environmental Qualms; Upper Peninsula Mining Mining; the life blood of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which became renowned for its massive supplies of iron, nickel, and copper ores. The sanctity of the residents living in Northern Michigan were dependent on the flow of natural resources coming from the mines, where many flocked to the growing cities to find work. Despite the wealth the region found in mining, it vanished once the prices of these metals dropped, where most mines were abandoned. The dependency on mining during the 19th and 20th centuries crippled the Upper Peninsula s economy, causing a diaspora of migrants looking for work to head to lower Michigan, or other states. Mines began to close as ore prices heavily decreased, where Northern Michigan s economy crumbled, towns became deserted, and the wealth the peninsula had once seen dwindled. Despite this, the Upper Peninsula s economy has been on the rebound, as Over the last forty years, average income per resident... has risen 71 percent, almost as fast as the national growth rate and much faster than the growth rate across Michigan. In addition the total income received by all residents together grew 65 percent in inflation adjusted terms. Jobs expanded by a third (1). The economic sustenance from mining would only incur further economic degradation by pushing the reliance of mining onto a community still struggling from when it was taken away. Mining is still profitable for the region, and would conclude with a starting point for the Northern Michigan economies to gain income to plan greater economic outputs, where The Eagle Mine... will pump $4 billion into Marquette County over its eight year lifespan and employ about 300 while generating economic activity that will create 1,200 additional jobs (2). The lifespan of a mine gives the region a timeframe of when they will expect to be forced to search for different fiscal opportunities, or give them a window of how long they have to find new generators of income to subsidize their current economic fallings. Mining reserves would be able to prolong the life of the mine, furthering the amount of time the region has to structure their economies on other sustainable means, as unlike most goods and services, copper is an exhaustible resource concluding that there are therefore limits to cumulative copper production ... Before you interacted with the agency s clients or school s students, what expectations, assumptions, and prejudgments do you have? Where did these come from, and why do you think you have them? For my ASL hours I observed two different environments. The first environment was an Adapted Sports Night here at the University of Texas. Prior to arriving to the event a couple of prejudgments I had was that, majority of the athletes there would be from recreational sport teams in the area and that the games would be pretty simple to understand. Essentially, I thought that they would show me how to play different sports and how they are adapted to their wheelchairs or their particular disability. I believe that these assumptions came from not realizing that adapted sports is more than just playing basketball or rugby in a basic wheelchair. Sammy s house was the second environment in which I completed ASL hours at. Sammy s house is a childcare center that provides inclusion of children without disabilities and children with disabilities and medically fragile children. Upon my first day at Sammy s House I did not have many prejudgments other than I expected that children who attended Sammy s house would be composed of mainly disabled children. When you picture a cabin in your head you think of a log cabin built entirely of wood that has a big fireplace in the living room and deer heads hanging on the walls. This cabin was different. It was a small, run down white house that my family has called the cabin, way before I was born. It had a small fireplace in the living room that I have never seen be used and dead, stuffed fish on plaques hanging on the wall from years ago. It had two garages that were joined together with a door like an adjoining hotel room, but they were both detached from the house. Down the street from the cabin there is a liquor and grocery store, a post office, a gas station, and a small shop called Owls and Things. Owls and Things is a souvenir shop, but they sell ice cream as well. Every day we were at the cabin our family would walk down the street and get ice cream. According to these studies, MS does not result from gene mutations or aberrations; rather, polymorphisms in a number of genes may predispose people to MS. These polymorphisms act independently and each can contribute a little. Several studies have identified susceptibility genes on chromosome 6p21 and 17q22 in the coding regions for major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) (11 14). Also the interleukin 7 receptor (IL 7R) gene alteration (15 17) and two single nucleotide polymorphisms within the interleukin 2 receptor alpha (IL 2Ra) coding region have been linked to MS risk (18). Pathophysiologically, these polymorphisms might have effects on the immune system. There is no doubt that genetics has revolutionized our understanding about the human diseases. Regarding MS; however, the practical application of these data has not been acquired yet. Gene screening for finding patients prone to MS, is neither ethical nor scientifically supported. In another way, genetic engineering might find some ways to treat MS or prevent further worsening of the disease. This might work as a secondary or tertiary prevention strategy. In France there was an abundance of debt and taxation. The French monarchy managed their fiscal affairs by using an unequal system of taxation, borrowing money, or selling noble titles and other privileges. This led to a long running fiscal debt. France could not solely rely on tariffs to generate income. Although other countries had higher taxation rates, the burden on the common people was greater in France.
