Universal Pictures Piracy Essay
Hollywood s Big Six, a few long standing American film studios but out of the six, the oldest is
Universal Pictures. Universal Pictures is owned by Comcast, through their subsidiary NBCUniversal.
Prior to the contemporary state of affairs Universal Pictures was founded in 1912 as the Universal
Film Manufacturing Company. Over the century thus far the company has produced quite a few
movies that will go down as classics, and countless more that were major box office success stories (
About ). High sales numbers will always be a priority of the studio; therefore, it is within their best
interest to be strongly opposed to piracy. Piracy especially in the case of films are an ever growing

This campaign was originally run in Brazil, starting out in Sao Paolo, however the internet has made it
widely available to the public. The content of the image is undoubtedly an attempt to garner the
attention of not just the intended audience, but anyone who may happen to glance at it. The image
exhibits a dismembered finger, still grotesquely covered in blood, with the likely intent of instilling a
feeling of disgust. There is some accompanying text to the advertisement as well, Stop Destroying the
band you like. Say no to music piracy (Image 2). The only support provided to give some sort of
credibility and legitimacy to the image is the Universal logo add following the text. Nonetheless, the
advertisement holds no context to explain the content of the image. For example, why is the image of
a severed body part what relation is there between that and piracy. Is the claim being made that music
piracy can lead to you losing a finger, or maybe a member of your favorite band? This advertisement
was expressly released in Brazil, in an attempt to combat music piracy in that region. There may have
been a preconceived plan to later release the image in other regions as well depending on how well it
was received. At first glance, most viewers of the second image may feel a deep disgust towards the
image, due to its content. With continued viewing, one may come to the relation that this is a

Stereotypes Of Wonder Women
In what ways does Pattie Jenkins 2017 Wonder Woman eschew superhero stereotypes and present a
strong female narrative?
Although superhero movies have become some of the most popular and successful movie instalments
of the 21st century most of these movies have been about men and focused on their trials and triumphs
while also creating and perpetrating negative stereotypes of women. The female superhero movie falls
into one of three categories: the victim, the tomboy and the bombshell. In the first category the victim
constantly finds herself at the centre of trouble and requires the main man in the movie to swoop in
and save her, she is a passive and weak character. The bombshell tends to be highly sexualised,

The male characters in the movie support and help Diana but at no point do they overshadow her or
make her rely on them. Steve Trevor is given his own storyline, important in its own right but never
more important than Diana s quest. Diana declares herself independent from the beginning of her
journey, flirting with Steve but also putting him in his place, They came to the conclusion that men are
essential for procreation, but when it comes to pleasure... unnecessary. Right from the beginning
Diana is on her own journey, separate to that of the male characters, and she is able to rely on her own
strength. Although Steve Trevor is constantly urging Diana to avoid danger and risks, she frequently
ignores him, placing other people s safety above her own and defending other s, not being defended, I
will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. 1 Diana proves her independence and strength
repeatedly throughout the film, leading men into battle, running through No Man s Land and attacking
soldier s terrorising a town, always despite being urged into safety by her male counterparts. I cannot
stand by while innocent lives are lost! 1 Gal Gadot s characterisation of Diana also circumnavigates
the victim stereotype, Diana s innocence and naiveté of the world of man never overshadowing the
strength and power she constantly evokes, her walk

Essay Honor versus Friendship in Becket
Honor versus Friendship in Becket
Anouilh s Becket offers the story of the relationship between Thomas Becket and Henry II, King of
England. The relationship begins with the two being fun loving and teasing friends, develops into a
rough and tumble relationship, and then ends in cold hatred. Because he will not give in to his
demands Henry has Becket executed in Canterbury Cathedral. Becket had been Henry s friend and
loyal supporter until he became Archbishop of Canterbury. At that point, he was determined his first
loyalty was due God and not Henry even though he had supported Henry against the church
previously. Becket fled to France in exile before returning to Canterbury where Henry had four barons

Wake up! They say we can go in now.
Becket: This is madness, my Lord. Don t do it. I could not serve both God and you.
(Anouilh 71)
The problem with remaining friends once Becket is made Archbishop is that he takes his job too
seriously. He knows that politics and the church are corrupt, and he even admits that he used to laugh
at the foibles of both. However, once he becomes Archbishop he intends to pay homage to a higher
force than either the earthly king or the earthly church. While this may seem noble to some, he is
actually very naïve about the way politics works and the church was a participating member of politics
at this point in history. Instead, he tries to live up to some pure ideal of the church which is why he
refuses to allow Henry to go against what he believes to be moral action. Like Antigone, he may take
the moral high road but he will lose his life just like her because he refuses to play the political game
of his era. He even admits as much He is the

You should always do good without expecting some sort of gratitude in return. You should be satisfied
with the though of being a good human being, instead of expecting a payment in return for your good
deed. Book six goes to explain how it is important to always think about the good, its essential to
control your mind and thoughts, if you can do this you can control in which way your life will go.
Book seven is about patience and how you must have tolerance. People will always try and bring you
down no matter what you do, good or bad. The only way you can remain happy during these times, is
to remain true to yourself. How you react to these situations and negativity being put upon you, is up
to you and that will determine your happiness. Book eight goes hand in hand with book seven. It
explains how you will encounter a lot in life but if you separate yourself from others, you will only
end up hurting yourself more than if you actually try and interact with the situation. Books nine
through twelve kind of tie together the entire reading. We should be sincere and honest, because that s

Compare And Contrast Star Trekkies
The Star Trek franchise has been one of the largest and most successful in the history of Science
fiction. Its series of television programs has one of the most loyal and diverse fan bases in history.
However, the most common source of debate among Trekkies is over which program deserves the title
of The Best ; Star Trek: The Original Series or Star Trek: The Next Generation. While the followings
of both shows adamantly disagree with each other s claim to the title, these two shows have more in
common than people may like to believe.
While these two shows may have premiered decades apart, their roots remain the same. Both were
produced by Gene Roddenberry. They were both centered around the concepts of travel over time and

An obvious difference would be the time gap. Star Trek: The Original Series came out in 1966. Its
counterpart, Star Trek: The Next Generation did not make its debut until over twenty years later in
1987. The time difference also contributed to the difference in technology available. Due to the lack of
certain special effects technology, The Original Series seemed to be a lower quality program, however,
they were doing the best they could with their available resources. By 1987, extraordinary
advancement had been made in cinematic technology, allowing for The Next Generation to have a
much more diverse set of special effects at their disposal. The new show, which updates the futuristic
scenario of the original by being set in the 24th century, 85 years beyond the time of the first series,
has a sleek, streamlined look that has evidently pleased devoted Trekkies while drawing in newer,
more casual viewers weaned on the spectacular outer space sights of feature films such as Star Wars

The Original Series the U.S.S. enterprise was commanded by Captain James T. Kirk, portrayed by
William Shatner. Kirk was known for being all heart and raw emotion. It was not uncommon for him
to make decisions that would clearly go against Starfleet regulations. His fans loved him for his

Poetry Essay Beauty is a subjective idea that focuses on the characteristics preferable to a single
species that gives an advantage over another and at the cost of another species survival. Humans have
created astounding empires with beautiful cities and monuments because they were the most
progressive species that are able to do so because of their capacity for violence. Some empires fear for
their survival, so they must eliminate any threat whether it be humans or other animals. The poem,
Thanks by Yusef Komunyakaa, it symbolizes how humans can become single minded only driven by
their own personal desires at the sake of anyone else. Humans naturally commit ugly atrocities to
progress their own beauty, or at least idea of, and they instinctively oppose nature because mankind is
the dark side of nature. The poem describes the life of a man during the Vietnam War, a conflict
involving the United States and local Vietnamese who supported a communist regime, and how
unexplainable sporadic events saved his life. He gives thanks to an unknown force that saves his life
multiple times throughout his tour in Vietnam because the instances are what some people consider
luck and others and act of a higher being or deity. Throughout the poem he expresses his gratitude
towards the entity that watches over him but later he questions the existence of a god because why

Year 11 Shakespeare Analysis
Shakespeare, in having Julia assumes a male disguise in Two Gentlemen of Verona, plays on hose,
codpiece, and pins to emphasize cross dressing in Renaissance England. Hose, in the Oxford English
Dictionary, comes from the Old English hosa and has the meaning of an article of clothing for the leg
(OED). Similarly, codpiece refers to a close fitting hose or breeches worn by men from the 15th to the
17th century (OED). Together, both hose and codpiece serve to remind the audience of Julia s
character transformation, undergoing from a female mistress to a male page. What significant about
the word codpiece, however, is that it is a compounded word of piece, which derives from French
peece and carries a meaning of a portion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s mention of infamy and scandalized may serve to depict the cultural attitude towards
women s travelling, for Julia, as seen in her dialogues, may be subjected to being scandalized and an
infamy for undertaking a journey, showing that women did have as much freedom as men do at the
time. According to Lucetta, it is only through cross dressing as a male page that Julia is able to travel
from Verona to Milan, without being scandalized and a public infamy, implying that a male attire
offers more freedom of action and movement than female attire does. In it will make me scandalized,
however, it is ambiguous, for it can refer to both Julia s travelling and her cross dressing. Similarly,
Journey also has figurative meaning of passage through life, implying character development (OED);
this particular meaning may point to Julia s change of attire, such as from being a female character to
a male character. In other words, Shakespeare s mention of it and journey (as in character
development) may point to Julia s cross dressing, and such action could result in her being scandalized
and a public infamy, for cross dressing disrupts the concept of gender in Renaissance England. By
allowing Julia cross dresses and travels, however, Shakespeare challenges the Renaissance customs by
allowing female

Religious And Social Movements Of Martin Luther And...
Although Martin Luther was often credited with initiating the Reformation throughout Europe, and
rightfully so, he was strongly influenced by religious and social movements that had taken place
before him. Humanistic ideals during the Italian and Northern Renaissance were attempting to reform
Christianity, which had control over a large region of central Europe known as the Holy Roman
Empire. During this time, the Catholic church had become increasingly oppressive and corrupt, and
expected citizens to follow their sometimes exaggerated teachings without resistance. Humanism
posed a threat to the authority of the Catholic church, fueled by people such as Erasmus and Thomas
More. In an effort to criticize the practices of monks and their position in the Catholic church,
Erasmus wrote an amusing piece titled The Praise of Folly , which portrayed ideals of Christian
humanism. Moore also wrote his own ideas of reform, in the story Utopia. In it, he describes a
fictional island, and their economical, social, and religious customs. A strongly disciplined man,
Martin Luther had devoted his life to become a monk within the Catholic church. But upon his
meticulous Biblical studies, Luther realized that salvation was not achieved through good works, but
through faith. This was contrary to the message the Catholic church had been preaching, that salvation
was earned. This flaw, along with many others, inspired Luther to post a letter on the door of the

Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God
Section 6

Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to demonstrate
that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In Meditation V of
Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his version of the
Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this argument fails
because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence.
Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions:
1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being.
2. His claim that existence is a perfection.
In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite,
eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created both
myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in
speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God, I
take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes
understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By
contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for their
existence. This

Dirty Words In Gone With The Wind
Having a strong speaker with a great reputation helps one become more persuasive, and increase the
audience s perception of the speaker. One way dirty words help boost the character of the speaker is
by allowing them to be more human like. As Scherer and Sagarin state, Profanity is thought to be a
flawed form of speech , so when used it helps the speaker appear to be more human like as it
showcases minor flaws. ( Berger pg. 286 ). One of the best examples of this making a character seem
more human like is in Gone With the Wind and the famous quote, Frankly my dear I don t give a
damn. . Again this changes the perception of the audience to see the character Clark as realistic and
giving a human response to his wife. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides literal uses for cuss words (as verbs), over two thirds of all swearing is linked in expressing
some kind of emotional connotation. These help with expressing the speaker s anger, frustration, and
surprise ( son of a bitch , f*ck me! , holy shit! ) which are done in emotional outbursts of these single
words, also known as epithets. In addition profanity has a direct connection with emotional response
in that when one utters one of these worser words it helps increase heart rate and work as an analgesic,
showing how it can help manage emotional pain as it has a direct connection. One such emotional
connection could be noted in the use of FUBAR (F*ucked up beyond all recognition) in the movie
Saving Private Ryan to help the convey the soldiers emotions in how sick of they were of the war.
Commonly physical fights take place to help express emotional pain or anger, these are normally
avoided by voicing this anger through these taboo words. For example one can use name calling
(bitch, asshole), or curse in the form of a put down (eat shit and die) all spur emotional responses and
can help avoid physical confrontations by giving a voice to inner feelings. This is commonly seen in
rap songs where many cuss words are used to unveil inner feelings. Such the rap group NWA used

The Oppression Of Women In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Though women are included in Joseph Conrad s The Heart of Darkness, they do not play a key role.
This is not surprising for the time period this text was first published. On his Journey, Charlie
Marlowe seldom encounters women and considers them inferior to himself. It s queer how out of
touch with truth women are. They live in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like
it, and never can be (1961). There are many reasons Marlowe views women like this including, the
lack of females in his life, the type of females he encounters, and always being surrounded by men.
Marlowe is a man of the sea. He has dedicated his entire life to the sea. Marlowe has been traveling
the world using boats for his entire adult life. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He clearly emphasizes his belief that women are on a lower level in society than men. He does not
have a lively connection with any woman. Because of this lack of connection to a woman, he has no
female role model to instill better moral ideas about women in his mind. Marlowe lives a lifestyle
where he could disappear on his boat for a long time and not be searched for due to his lack of
connection with any family or friends. This absence causes him to miss out on many honorable
women that coulee prove his stereotype wrong. Residing on a boat with many men alters a persons
point of view on many topics. Had Marlowe happened to have an open minded idea of women going
into his first voyage, odds are that it would have been changed before he returned home. Living on a
vessel with only men, conversations were very different than they would have been if a woman was
present. The men could get away with sharing exaggerated stories, especially about women, due to the
lack of females. While this would cause the reader to believe that Marlowe learned his disrespect for
women at sea, this is not the case. In fact, if the reader looks more closely at the text, one can see that
Marlowe is interrupted during one of his stories by another man. The other man stops him telling him
that his story is too hateful, showing the reader than in fact, Marlowe could be

its outstanding cinematography, scenic music, as well as the effect it had on filmmaking history with
the tremendously small budget they had of 9 million dollars. This film created a summer blockbuster
by being the start of great suspense, action, and strong effects and explosions. Movies these days have
extreme CGI effects where many viewers may not be amazed nor shocked about, but Jaws, being the
first film with solid effects, has impacted a vast audience. Jaws and the notion of the blockbuster have
a huge connection and relation due to the impact it brought to millions of viewers and greater films it

Jaws invented that form of pleasurable entertainment exactly 40 years ago this week, opening on June
20, 1975. It also launched the career of Steven Spielberg and turned sharks, in the popular
imagination, from fish into monsters (Marche). It is truly amazing how Spielberg was able to
accomplish such a task in being able to change billions of peoples view on one aspect. One film
created how a shark can be viewed as a surviving animal living in the ocean on one day and a vicious,
man eating killer the next. The suspense that is used throughout the film had an impact on many
movies today; directors today use the cuts and ideas that resemble attacks under water or scenes out in
the ocean. The huge explosions and surprising shark attacks have given directors a new view on
filming and cinematography. The effect this film had not only influenced the audience but also

Civil Right
Everything began with a third grader student named Linda Brown who was an African American and
had to walk a mile to get to a colored school, while she lived about seven block away from an all

School Lunch Persuasive Speech
First off, let me begin with a simple question. What was your school lunch like when you were in 7th
grade? Next, let me tell you how mine is. Clearly showing how I feel about it, I always bring could
lunch and try to avoid school lunch like the plague. Corn niblets with pudding cups and zucchini along
with a frozen and mushy fruit cup, and the main course, an unripe banana. My thoughts are that school
food is supposed to be two things. It s supposed to help students that are constantly distracted by an
empty stomach by providing food for them and it s supposed to be something that students look
forward to after half a school day of mental and sometimes physical labor. There s also two problems I

According to the students at Roosevelt High School, Chicago, IL, their school lunch ladies used to
actually cook the food which students found enjoyable and actually edible, however the students and
lunch ladies both believe that now the school lunch is terrible, seen here. Many students have gotten to
the point where they don t eat lunch at all. One reason for this is because the hamburger meat is
discolored and dry. This is because it is cooked off site, frozen, then reheated at school, according to
lunch ladies. The tomatoes have bad spots and the lettuce is wilted and brown. The fruit cups are often
frozen or mushy. The pizza is so greasy you can put a napkin on it and soak up a lot of grease.
Sometimes the milk is warm which means it hasn t been in the fridge and could be spoiled. Since the
food is reheated, sometimes it s soggy and it could lose some nutrients. (The School Lunch Project:

napkins soak it up, and sadly, this is the reality for most school lunch programs. According to an

Analysis of The First Film with Basic Sounds
1. Introduction
Hearing is believing , as the potential motto of all sound practitioners inteprets, sound has played a
great part in our daily life, so as in the world of film. The first film with basic sound showed up in the
year of 1900 in Paris. Though the technique is quite juvenile, it is indeed a breakthrough in the film
history. The first film with synchronous sound, which is actually the real sound film as we recognized,
is The light of New York published at 1928 by the Vitaphone Corporation (Griffith 1961). This can be
seen as a leap in the history of film industry. Film has become increasingly prosperous since then. In
the meantime, the sound effect of films has become more and more mature and sophisticated.
The film Se7en, first being put on screen in 1995, made a clear manifestation of the seven deadly sins
according to the Christianity, arousing audiences introspection of their sense of morality, and their
consideration of the concept of justice and the meaning of life. As a profound movie, Se7en s sound
effect is exceptional too. This paper will examine some of the sounds that the film uses, and analyze
the effect of the utilization of them. 2. Analysis of basic sound based on particular scenes

Traffic Pollution
Over the past few months, there has been a growing concern over the worsening of traffic congestion
particularly in Manhattan. The speed of traffic in Midtown has declined by 23% since 2010. This
traffic gridlock will cost the City over millions of dollars in wasted fuel, wasted time and carbon
emissions. This past summer, Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed a millionaire tax to fund
infrastructure improvements on the subway. Later in October 2017, he laid out a Five Point Plan to
reduce traffic congestion. Working closely with Con Edison, the Mayor has also set the goal for 20%
of all city vehicles to be electric by 2025. In addition to these initiatives, Governor Andrew Cuomo
has appointed a panel to study congestion pricing and report back to him by the end of the year.
The moderator and panelists of this discussion session at NYU School of Law on November 7, 2017
sought to identify the impacts and explore plausible solutions to this perpetual problem. The
discussion was moderated by Katrina Wyman from NYU School of Law and featured the following
panelists: (i) Iyad Kheirbek, Executive Director of the Air Quality Program at NYC Health; (ii) Sam
Schwartz, CEO of Sam Schwartz Transportation Consultants; (iii) Ashwini Chhabra, Policy Director
at Uber; and (iv) Elizabeth Stein, an attorney in EDF s Clean Energy Program.
Mr. Kheirbek from NYC Health initiated the discussion by identifying some of the most common
traffic related pollutants (PM2.5, BC, NOx, etc.) and their adverse health impacts (premature deaths,
respiratory hospitalization, etc.). Based on the data collected by NYC Health, the largest contributor of
air pollutants are heavy duty diesel trucks, which account for only 5% of total vehicle miles traveled
(VMT) but 50% of the health impacts. Although the air quality in the city has generally improved over
the past seven years (PM2.5 and NO2 levels have gone down by 18% and 24% respectively), higher
pollution levels continue to plague many neighborhoods. These pollution hotspots include areas of
heavy truck traffic in Manhattan, the Bronx, North Brooklyn and Queens, particularly in communities
near major roadways. A concerted effort is therefore required to reduce the vehicle emission through

The Rites Of Passage For My Family
I would consider the rites of passage for my family to be rather subtle and based more on
responsibility and temperament towards treating them like an adult. For one to be considered an adult
in my family that person must first act like an adult, and be responsible for themselves. The fact that
someone can drive or has a job does not make them an adult, what would make them an adult is more
of an unspoken agreement where we no longer must worry about them needing our parents help. I am
not sure that the rest of my family has this perspective on when they become an adult, but this is my
own personal rite of passage and I would not consider a sibling an adult unless they could do so. I
consider the usual rituals, such as getting a license, going to high school, dating, and getting a job to
be more of a step up a ladder where adulthood is at the top. I have siblings that have done all that, but
I do not consider them an adult and I do not think my parents treat them like it either. I believe a
person must earn their rites of passage through responsibility, compassion, and independence.
Responsibility is an attribute I consider important to be an adult. What other people may consider their
rite of passage into adulthood, I think of as small lessons to being responsible. Driving a car is fun and
allows for a whole new spectrum of freedom, but it also shows that a person must learn how to be
responsible by driving safely and taking care of their vehicle. My parents granted me

Importance Of Epic Theatre
Epic theatre is always intended for the actors quite as much as for the spectators. The essential reason
why the didactic play falls into a category of its own is that, through the exceptional austerity of its
apparatus, it facilitates and encourages the interchangeability of actors and audience, audience and
actors. Every spectator can become one of the actors . (Walter Benjamin). What do you discern as the
didactic element of Mother Courage and Her Children and how does it relate to dramatic form/
theatrical techniques?
Is Theatre for Pleasure or Theatre for Instruction?
Epic theatre refers to a form of drama that attracts spectator s mind more than his feelings. The term
was developed and adopted by Bertolt Brecht in Germany in 1920 s. Epic theatre presents a narrative
which turns the observer into spectator. The main aim of epic theatre is to arouse the spectator s
capacity to take action by provoking rational self reflection. Brecht has followed the epic theatre
because he realised that the traditional theatre of his time is inadequate for his purposes. Epic theatre
serves the purpose of social function. Through its narrative, Brecht presents social, political and
economic problems. His main aim is to invoke the audience into analysing the play rather than getting
attached with the characters or the plot. This form was empolyed by Brecht in his play Mother
Courage and Her Children which was performed in 1941. The play consists of twelve scenes that

Persuasive Essay On The Joker
The scene opens with Darth Vader, one of the greatest villains to exist in a fictional universe. He
glides through the doors of the Rebel ship, stormtroopers following closely behind. His all black
outfit, cape, helmet, and all stand out against the stark white interior of the ship. His unmistakable
breathing echoes throughout the hall, and his light saber clings by his side. All great and memorable
villains have several things in common. All great fictional villains have great costumes that make
them memorable. For example the Joker from the Batman comic books, as well as the movie
adaptations has a great costume. He is most noticeably seen in a royal purple suit, and green or purple
tie. His hair is a nasty green color, usually seen slicked back. His defining characteristic lies with his
clown makeup, pasty white face paint, and a bright red smile, all which define the name Joker.
Another great villain with a memorable costume also belongs to the Batman universe. This villain
being The Penguin. The version that has the most notoriety is the one from the Tim Burton Batman
film from 1989. The Penguin is seen in a black suit, monocle, and top hat. It is his makeup that really
makes him live up to his namesake. His skin is painted a pale white, eyes a sunken in grey color, and a
nose made to be elongated to resemble a beak. A villain with a great costume outside of the Batman
universe is the greatest of all villains, the one and only Darth Vader. He is clad is all black apparel,

Parkinson s Disease And The Disease
Parkinson s disease is a chronic disorder of the nervous system with a gradual onset that primarily
affects the body s motor system. The symptoms of the disease are mainly caused by the death of
dopamine producing cells in the midbrain. Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that, among
other things, is responsible for playing a role in how the brain controls bodily movements. Therefore,
the cardinal symptoms of the disease are movement related, including tremor and rigid, jerky
movements. Parkinson s is a progressive disease, meaning it gets worse over time, until it eventually

Parkinson s disease produces both motor symptoms and nonmotor symptoms. There are four cardinal
motor symptoms of Parkinson s: tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia (slow movements), and postural
instability. Tremor is the most obvious symptom of Parkinson s, as well as the most common. The
tremor is uncontrollable and is most noticeable when the limb is at rest; when the limb is in use, the
tremor disappears. Often times, the tremor only affects the hand or foot on one side of the body, but it
can eventually become bilateral. Rigidity is characterized as stiffness and resistance to movement in
the limbs. The arms, legs, face, and back are areas commonly affected. Early on, rigidity can cause
joint pain, often in the shoulder. Bradykinesia is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson s. It
is described as slowness and difficulty in initiating and making movements, especially repetitive
movements and fine motor skills, such as writing. Bradykinesia greatly affects the ability of the
Parkinson s sufferer to perform common activities of daily life, like getting dressed. According to
Nolden (2015), postural instability is the imbalance and loss of righting reflexes. This is usually a
symptom that shows up in the late stages of Parkinson s. Postural instability is linked with high rates
of hip fractures in people with Parkinson s disease, due to increased falls. Aside from the four cardinal

Born in 1966, Kenneth Krueger was the second child of Frederick and Loretta Krueger; soon before

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty that ended the...
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which came into effect on 2 February 1848, ended the Mexican
American war and formally resolved territorial disputes resulting from that conflict. The treaty
required the U.S. government to pay the Mexican government $15 million dollars, this in return for an
expanse of territory that later became the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Utah, Nevada,
and Colorado. I intend to argue that the treaty benefitted the people who inhabited, and later came to
inhabit, that territory. I also propose that, as a result of the transfer of territory from a dictatorial
regime to one that was based on democratic principles, both Mexico and the United States ultimately
benefitted in several ways.

This was, at the time, one of the most populous cities in Northern Mexico, having a population of of
nearly fifteen thousand inhabitants. (The Mexican War 33). About the same time, Taylor and his army
won the battle of Buena Vista. The terrain in northern Mexico is difficult, and water scarce. Perhaps
this is why, after a number of arduous campaigns in the north, Taylor seemed to lose interest in
fighting. Instead of pressing south towards the Mexican capital, he was content to remain in the north.
Because of his lack of fighting spirit, Pres. James Polk lost faith in him as a leader. Instead, he turned
to General Winfield Scott, who lost no time in making for the Mexican capital. The American army
and generals proved significantly superior to the Mexican forces and in less than a year and a half the
American army had captured Mexico City and the Mexican Republic had to sue for an unfavorable
peace. (The Mexican American War).
The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo contained twenty articles. The most important of these were the
payment of $15 million already mentioned, and the transfer of territory. The U.S. pledged to withdraw
its troops from the Mexican capital, cease its blockading of Mexican ports, and to withdraw all of its
forces from Mexico within three months of the signing of the treaty.
In the territories ceded to the United States, the Mexicans there resident were allowed to

may be coming from broken homes. The children especially in public may not have ate a meal when
they came home or may not have slept in a bed or may not even have a home. Understanding the child

Food obviously played a significant role in the Civil War. Without the basic necessities of food and

the same monotonous meals. And even by these standards, some men were still left unfed. The
Confederacy and the Union both struggled with the upkeep of trying to keep their men fed, yet they

that gave a voice to all of Greece s citizens and brought people and ideas together. Without these
pioneers of philosophy and democracy, there would be huge gaps in politics, education, and art that
would still be present in 2018. The Greeks were people of many questions and they expressed their
curiosity in the form of philosophy or the love of wisdom. Throughout Greek history there have been
many important and influential thinkers. People like Thales or Miletus, Pythagoras, and Protagoras
lead the Greeks to higher thinking. While Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle went on to ask more questions

A man named Homer wrote two of the most famous epics of early Greece: the Iliad and the odyssey.
The Iliad, is the story of the Trojan war and the Odyssey is the story of Odysseus epic journey and
return home to his wife. Both of these works were regarded as accurate historical records and were
used in education. Many of the literary works from this time are still being used in school systems
today. Both of Homer s epics are being taught in high schools as well as colleges in the United States.

Jazz History Concert Report On The Concert
Jazz History Concert Report
The date of the concert was October 5, 2016 and the title of the concert is Experimental Improvisation
with: Kjell Nordeson Peter Kuhn . The concert was performed in Mesa College Music building. Peter
Kuhn had three instruments with him a bass clarinet, saxophone, and a Bb Clarinet. He used the bass
clarinet and the saxophone during his first piece, and the clarinet on the second piece. Kjell Nordeson
was on the drum but had a lot of instruments with him. Sometimes he would play the drums as a
drums set but sometimes he would put some sort of objects on top of the drum to create different
sound effects. He also had a small glockenspiel and a flexatone. The concert hall was very simple, had

It is a formless music, but because the performers are quite literally composing in the moment, there
were three noticeable sections in the piece. The first part was developing an idea, slowly getting used
to each other s sounds, sometimes gentle and sometime aggressive. Beginning of the improvisation the
drumbeat is simple but rather random. There is no set pattern that I could find, but the tom tom pattern
was rather similar so I think that was the main motif. The bass clarinet also started an idea, a 6 note
pattern downward without any tonal center. He slowly develops this idea by playing a similar patters,
or sequence, to concrete the idea for the audience but slightly mutating the motif little by little each
time he plays it. He never plays the same way again. As the bass clarinet gets more active by
increasing the amount of notes played and the intensity of the tone, the drum slowly matches the bass
clarinet in aggressiveness. The drum plays very sudden loud snare drum occasionally, creating tension
in the music with already atonal bass clarinet. Then the drummer starts to put a cymbal and a pad on
two different drums to create a very dull thick sound. The bass clarinet and the drum both
simultaneously becomes very aggressive, loud, and complex at this point. Bass clarinet sounds very
similar to a saxophone at this point. The drummer still

To compete successfully in markets where products are the same or very similar, and prices are
basically the same, so the customer service is often the only competitive advantage available.
Many companies will do the survey, they will ask the customer need and they want the company will
focus on customer satisfying service or goods producing process, the customer s answers is want to
focus in customer satisfying service. such as the company will have some training programme to give
the staff.
Now more people want the company can provide a good service more than a goods producing process.
because customers want the sales can to help them and address their needs. They will feel happy for
their shopping. After their shopping, if some people feel this company have a good service, they
would recommend to their friend. I think this can effectively to promote their company s products. It
can attract more people to come the company to buy their product.
On the other hand, such as financial, beauty these industries, these industries need to have and provide
good customer service, because these industries require face to face contact with customers every

customer service is ranked first, in addition, for the brand name of the company to establish good

Humans have created astounding empires with beautiful cities and monuments because they were the most progressive species that are able to do so because of their capacity for violence. Some empires fear for their survival, so they must eliminate any threat whether it be humans or other animals. • 16. Religious And Social Movements Of Martin Luther And... Although Martin Luther was often credited with initiating the Reformation throughout Europe, and rightfully so, he was strongly influenced by religious and social movements that had taken place before him. Humanistic ideals during the Italian and Northern Renaissance were attempting to reform Christianity, which had control over a large region of central Europe known as the Holy Roman Empire. During this time, the Catholic church had become increasingly oppressive and corrupt, and expected citizens to follow their sometimes exaggerated teachings without resistance. Humanism posed a threat to the authority of the Catholic church, fueled by people such as Erasmus and Thomas More. In an effort to criticize the practices of monks and their position in the Catholic church, Erasmus wrote an amusing piece titled The Praise of Folly , which portrayed ideals of Christian humanism. Moore also wrote his own ideas of reform, in the story Utopia. In it, he describes a fictional island, and their economical, social, and religious customs. A strongly disciplined man, Martin Luther had devoted his life to become a monk within the Catholic church. But upon his meticulous Biblical studies, Luther realized that salvation was not achieved through good works, but through faith. This was contrary to the message the Catholic church had been preaching, that salvation was earned. • 17. Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Section 6 Matthew Shields Word Count: 10/30/2014 Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to demonstrate that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In Meditation V of Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his version of the Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this argument fails because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence. Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions: 1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being. 2. His claim that existence is a perfection. In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite, eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created both myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God, I take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for their existence. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corn niblets with pudding cups and zucchini along with a frozen and mushy fruit cup, and the main course, an unripe banana. My thoughts are that school food is supposed to be two things. It s supposed to help students that are constantly distracted by an empty stomach by providing food for them and it s supposed to be something that students look forward to after half a school day of mental and sometimes physical labor. There s also two problems I mainly see with school food now. Who wants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the students at Roosevelt High School, Chicago, IL, their school lunch ladies used to actually cook the food which students found enjoyable and actually edible, however the students and lunch ladies both believe that now the school lunch is terrible, seen here. Many students have gotten to the point where they don t eat lunch at all. One reason for this is because the hamburger meat is discolored and dry. This is because it is cooked off site, frozen, then reheated at school, according to lunch ladies. The tomatoes have bad spots and the lettuce is wilted and brown. The fruit cups are often frozen or mushy. The pizza is so greasy you can put a napkin on it and soak up a lot of grease. Sometimes the milk is warm which means it hasn t been in the fridge and could be spoiled. Since the food is reheated, sometimes it s soggy and it could lose some nutrients. (The School Lunch Project: Culinary Denial What s wrong with our school food?) • 24. Analysis of The First Film with Basic Sounds 1. Introduction Hearing is believing , as the potential motto of all sound practitioners inteprets, sound has played a great part in our daily life, so as in the world of film. The first film with basic sound showed up in the year of 1900 in Paris. Though the technique is quite juvenile, it is indeed a breakthrough in the film history. The first film with synchronous sound, which is actually the real sound film as we recognized, is The light of New York published at 1928 by the Vitaphone Corporation (Griffith 1961). This can be seen as a leap in the history of film industry. Film has become increasingly prosperous since then. In the meantime, the sound effect of films has become more and more mature and sophisticated. The film Se7en, first being put on screen in 1995, made a clear manifestation of the seven deadly sins according to the Christianity, arousing audiences introspection of their sense of morality, and their consideration of the concept of justice and the meaning of life. As a profound movie, Se7en s sound effect is exceptional too. This paper will examine some of the sounds that the film uses, and analyze the effect of the utilization of them. 2. Analysis of basic sound based on particular scenes 2.1 Beginning gluttony At the beginning of the film, there is alarm for police cars and the speech sound of police officers using intercom, creating the atmosphere of a crime scene. • 25. Traffic Pollution Over the past few months, there has been a growing concern over the worsening of traffic congestion particularly in Manhattan. The speed of traffic in Midtown has declined by 23% since 2010. This traffic gridlock will cost the City over millions of dollars in wasted fuel, wasted time and carbon emissions. This past summer, Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed a millionaire tax to fund infrastructure improvements on the subway. Later in October 2017, he laid out a Five Point Plan to reduce traffic congestion. Working closely with Con Edison, the Mayor has also set the goal for 20% of all city vehicles to be electric by 2025. In addition to these initiatives, Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed a panel to study congestion pricing and report back to him by the end of the year. The moderator and panelists of this discussion session at NYU School of Law on November 7, 2017 sought to identify the impacts and explore plausible solutions to this perpetual problem. The discussion was moderated by Katrina Wyman from NYU School of Law and featured the following panelists: (i) Iyad Kheirbek, Executive Director of the Air Quality Program at NYC Health; (ii) Sam Schwartz, CEO of Sam Schwartz Transportation Consultants; (iii) Ashwini Chhabra, Policy Director at Uber; and (iv) Elizabeth Stein, an attorney in EDF s Clean Energy Program. Mr. Kheirbek from NYC Health initiated the discussion by identifying some of the most common traffic related pollutants (PM2.5, BC, NOx, etc.) and their adverse health impacts (premature deaths, respiratory hospitalization, etc.). Based on the data collected by NYC Health, the largest contributor of air pollutants are heavy duty diesel trucks, which account for only 5% of total vehicle miles traveled (VMT) but 50% of the health impacts. Although the air quality in the city has generally improved over the past seven years (PM2.5 and NO2 levels have gone down by 18% and 24% respectively), higher pollution levels continue to plague many neighborhoods. These pollution hotspots include areas of heavy truck traffic in Manhattan, the Bronx, North Brooklyn and Queens, particularly in communities near major roadways. A concerted effort is therefore required to reduce the vehicle emission through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Rites Of Passage For My Family I would consider the rites of passage for my family to be rather subtle and based more on responsibility and temperament towards treating them like an adult. For one to be considered an adult in my family that person must first act like an adult, and be responsible for themselves. The fact that someone can drive or has a job does not make them an adult, what would make them an adult is more of an unspoken agreement where we no longer must worry about them needing our parents help. I am not sure that the rest of my family has this perspective on when they become an adult, but this is my own personal rite of passage and I would not consider a sibling an adult unless they could do so. I consider the usual rituals, such as getting a license, going to high school, dating, and getting a job to be more of a step up a ladder where adulthood is at the top. I have siblings that have done all that, but I do not consider them an adult and I do not think my parents treat them like it either. I believe a person must earn their rites of passage through responsibility, compassion, and independence. Responsibility is an attribute I consider important to be an adult. What other people may consider their rite of passage into adulthood, I think of as small lessons to being responsible. Driving a car is fun and allows for a whole new spectrum of freedom, but it also shows that a person must learn how to be responsible by driving safely and taking care of their vehicle. • 27. Importance Of Epic Theatre Epic theatre is always intended for the actors quite as much as for the spectators. The essential reason why the didactic play falls into a category of its own is that, through the exceptional austerity of its apparatus, it facilitates and encourages the interchangeability of actors and audience, audience and actors. Every spectator can become one of the actors . (Walter Benjamin). What do you discern as the didactic element of Mother Courage and Her Children and how does it relate to dramatic form/ theatrical techniques? Is Theatre for Pleasure or Theatre for Instruction? Epic theatre refers to a form of drama that attracts spectator s mind more than his feelings. The term was developed and adopted by Bertolt Brecht in Germany in 1920 s. Epic theatre presents a narrative which turns the observer into spectator. The main aim of epic theatre is to arouse the spectator s capacity to take action by provoking rational self reflection. Brecht has followed the epic theatre because he realised that the traditional theatre of his time is inadequate for his purposes. Epic theatre serves the purpose of social function. Through its narrative, Brecht presents social, political and economic problems. His main aim is to invoke the audience into analysing the play rather than getting attached with the characters or the plot. He glides through the doors of the Rebel ship, stormtroopers following closely behind. His all black outfit, cape, helmet, and all stand out against the stark white interior of the ship. His unmistakable breathing echoes throughout the hall, and his light saber clings by his side. All great and memorable villains have several things in common. All great fictional villains have great costumes that make them memorable. For example the Joker from the Batman comic books, as well as the movie adaptations has a great costume. He is most noticeably seen in a royal purple suit, and green or purple tie. His hair is a nasty green color, usually seen slicked back. His defining characteristic lies with his clown makeup, pasty white face paint, and a bright red smile, all which define the name Joker. Another great villain with a memorable costume also belongs to the Batman universe. This villain being The Penguin. The version that has the most notoriety is the one from the Tim Burton Batman film from 1989. The Penguin is seen in a black suit, monocle, and top hat. It is his makeup that really makes him live up to his namesake. His skin is painted a pale white, eyes a sunken in grey color, and a nose made to be elongated to resemble a beak. The tremor is uncontrollable and is most noticeable when the limb is at rest; when the limb is in use, the tremor disappears. Often times, the tremor only affects the hand or foot on one side of the body, but it can eventually become bilateral. Rigidity is characterized as stiffness and resistance to movement in the limbs. The arms, legs, face, and back are areas commonly affected. Early on, rigidity can cause joint pain, often in the shoulder. Bradykinesia is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson s. It is described as slowness and difficulty in initiating and making movements, especially repetitive movements and fine motor skills, such as writing. Bradykinesia greatly affects the ability of the Parkinson s sufferer to perform common activities of daily life, like getting dressed.
