Iraq Persecution
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12
NIV).
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (Matthew 5:23 NIV). In the
entire world, there are 22 billion documented Christians and three fourth of them live in the West,
which is tolerant. Things are different in the Middle East, as a Christian, we suffer more persecution
than any other religion in the world, but as we suffer, we are on the pathway to triumph as we suffer
for believing in God and the Bible. The Bible is so powerful that it has been banned from such
countries. The persecution in the Middle East is leading the elimination of the religion as a whole. The
Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, has called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iraq has a democracy that is imposed by gunpoint which leads to the continuous persecution of the
country s Christian population. Because of this persecution, such as murders, kidnappings, rape,
intimidation, and some even beheaded for not wanting to convert to Islam, of the 1.4 million
Christians living in Iraq before the war, only 400,000 remain. Many have left to join the indigenous
Christians of Syria, which there are around two million. In Syria, Christians are persecuted by the
western supported, Saudi financed, and Islamist dominated Syrian rebels, (Harris). Many Christians
and secular communities fear that soon the Sunni Islamists are going to gain control of the
government, and no one will be safe (Manfreda). Non Muslims are only tolerated if they pay the jizya
tax, unless you re a priest. In July 2013, Syrian Catholic priest, Father FranƧois Murad was murdered,
but he wasn t the first. A Syrian Orthodox priest, Father Fadi Haddad, was grabbed last December as
he left his church to negotiate the release of a kidnapped parishioner. His body was found by the
roadside, the eyes gouged out. Islamists react wherever they are in control, and the government doesn
t step in to stop them. The government refuses to acknowledge the maltreatment of Christians (Harris).

Action Research in Od
ACTION RESEARCH ORG. MIRRORING IN OD
Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with
others in teams or as part of a community of practice to improve the way they address issues and solve
problems. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions, assisted or
guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices, and
knowledge of the environments within which they practice. Kurt lewin described action research as a
comparative research on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action and research

Data are again gathered from the client system so that progress can be determined and necessary
adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in
learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure)
[pic]
.Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning, stage for
basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely follows Lewin s
repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates other aspects of Lewin s
general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning stage is a period of unfreezing, or
problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing, that is, trying out new forms of behavior
in an effort to understand and cope with the system s problems. (There is inevitable overlap between
the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut and cannot be in a continuous process). The results
stage is a period of refreezing, in which new behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and
reinforcing, become a part of the system s repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is
problem centered, client centered, and action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic,
active learning, problem finding, and problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the
form of a written report but

Confirmation Bias Research Papers
One of the greatest dangers to scientific studies is the confirmation bias . When a researcher is trying
to collect documents and publications for what is studying or analyzing, it is very likely that only see,
or just to notice what it suits for what he wants to prove. Moreover, even almost unconsciously, it is
liable to see more quickly connections with other publications that seem to corroborate their
investigations. Unfortunately, this confirmation bias affects not only scientific studies. It concerns us
all. In today s article, I intend to show by example how to detect this phenomenon and some
techniques to try to avoid it. From birth, we are conditioned by numerous factors and these factors
significantly influence how we see, and

Summary Of The Hero s Journey Defined By Joseph Campbell
The Hero s Journey Defined is an article written by Joseph Campbell. In the article, Campbell writes
about the characteristics a hero possesses and the stages of his journey. The author also writes about
the different challenges the hero must overcome, as well as the the aftermath of the journey. In the
article, Campbell talks about the hero s call that initiates his journey. The hero normally begins his
journey for a number of different reasons including the fight for a certain cause, the sacrifices for a
beloved person, or a call to find something that was lost inside the hero himself. The call to adventure
is a key event in a hero s journey because it ignites the passion in the hero to fight for what he believes

Analysis Of The Poem Of His Coy Mistress By Andrew...

Mrs. Dawson
English II
21 September 2014
Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet
suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the
speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her
body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it
will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an
attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to
have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final,
stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in
intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have
the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the
idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for
the future. In the first stanza, the speaker uses various forms of flattery to convince his coy mistress to
make love and live in the moment. In the first few lines, the speaker communicates to his addressee,
the mistress, that if had we but world enough, and time, (1), meaning, if time

Should People Be Allowed To Keep Pitbulls As Pets Essay
Dogs are friendly, loyal house pets. They are intelligent, so they can provide services to people, such
as working with police officers at airports searching bags for bombs and illegal drugs. Dogs work as
guards protecting families and their most valuable belongings. Many disabled people live with trained
dogs. These animals are versatile, intelligent and loyal. By far, dogs are more superior pets than any
other pet. People should be allowed to keep pit bulls as pets because there is a lot of misunderstood
information that people do not know about, and they are not aggressive, and they are an excellent dog/
pet. Many people have wrong information about pit bulls. After adopting a pit bull herself, Dickey was
shocked to witness the negative responses her pet evoked (Kirkus). These dogs are very smart, and
most everybody does not realize that. They are very easy to train and learn things quickly. Back in the
day, pit bulls were used to help hunters hunt and kill bears. They are very affectionate towards their
owners. They like to remind you regularly of how they feel towards and that means a lot of kisses and
tail wagging.
Unless you raise them to fight, pit bulls are kind to the people they are comfortable around. They are
usually seen as killer fighting dogs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices
To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a
dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for
the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1)
series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized
least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS
test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first
differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1)
processes.
It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of
a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the
series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in
the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are
summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all
the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series.
Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into
account a structural break in the series,

What is an albatross? A albatross is a oceanic bird that has long narrow wings some species have
wingspan greater than 10 ft. They are mainly found in the southern oceans, while in the North there is

Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When
researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I
would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be
some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the
university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer
post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the
case before the 19th century.
The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is
one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of
Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were
beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their
schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their
studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge
through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students academic
celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this opportunity to
advance their knowledge through

Asian Immigrants And The American Dream
The American Dream, a belief that draws immigrants to the US with the hope being able to work hard
for a better life. One of the groups that believe in this dream are Asian Immigrants. Children of these
Asian immigrants have a unique expectation to live up to. Their parents came to America in search of
a better life, so they are pushed to achieve this desired life. Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan exposes this
expectation through the stories of the character s childhoods. But in the real world, these standard
push Asian students to the top of their classes and centralized Asian student goals around their grades.
Some parents, for example, Amy Chua, have an even higher expectation for their children. Why
Chinese mothers are superior, tells of the stereotypical tiger mom, who expects the most of their
children, excelling them even further into the vision of the American dream. But even with all the
excellence the Asian students emits, university acceptance is another story. Articles like The model
minority is losing patience in the Economist and Justice Department investigating Harvard s
affirmative action policies by Susan Svrluga and Nick Anderson discuss the disadvantage Asians have
when applying to the top universities. With so many Asians prospering in school, the racial quotas
universities are suspected of having increase the difficulty for an Asian to be accepted. Because even
though Asian students tend to be more hardworking and dedicated to education than other races,

that she accepted the colonial idea of slavery, by first describing her captivity, even though this poem
has a subversive double meaning that has sent an anti slavery message. Wheatley s choice of words

Wheatley continues with her double meaning subversive language and tells her readers to, scan the

And mark the systems of revolving worlds.
She is telling her readers to use their imaginations and be able to think past what is going on in the

Dogmatic Differences Between The Roman Catholic Church And...
Dogmatic Differences Between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church
Christianity is a major world religion with several branches, which, despite sharing common ideas and
beliefs, have developed significant differences over the course of history.
Perhaps the greatest breach in the Church happened in 1054 and is called the Great Schism. The
causes of this division are sophisticated and rooted in history. To put it shortly, even before the Roman
Empire was split into the Western and the Byzantine Empires, the independent development of the
Latin speaking West and the Greek speaking East led to significant differences in scholarly cultures
and traditions. This controversy resulted in the Schism; the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern
Orthodox Church were declared as two separate churches.
There have been numerous discussions and works that describe the differences between these two
branches of Christianity. However, an average learner should treat any matter he reads on the subject
carefully, since academic works are not so widely available, and the sources that are readily ... Show

Catholics view the Pope as the Vicar of Christ , the visible head of the church on Earth; thus, he is a
supreme power in the Church. The teaching about his primacy is rooted in the belief that he is the
spiritual successor of St. Peter, who was given the responsibility to care for the Church. The Pope has
supreme authority over church councils and should be respected by all other bishops. However, the
Pope s authority is only prevalent in regards to practicing of common faith and spiritual leadership. Of
course, there have been cases where the Pope abused his power, but at least in theory the Pope is not a
dictator ruling with absolute power over the Church. He should also not strive to have temporal and
secular power, as Pope John Paul II demonstrated by refusing to wear the papal tiara at the time of his

Allied Strategic Bombing Analysis
Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in total war, deployed with the goal of defeating the
enemy, by destroying their morale or their economic ability to produce and transport material to the
theatres of military operations. The four areas in which the significance of Allied strategic bombing
will be assessed are: economic, diplomacy, morale and the effect it had on the fighting fronts in
Europe.
The First area of strategic bombing to be assessed is the effect it had on scattering the German military
from their posted Fronts and the destruction of the Luftwaffe. The bombing raids on Germany drew
defenses that were positioned on the Eastern Front and in other areas to try and counter the incoming
Allie aircraft. German anti tank defenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was only due to the collaboration between the British, the Russians and US; the third Front could be
created. The third front tightened the relationship between the Allie countries and from then was able
to work together in attempts to defeat the Nazis regime. Strategic bombing was only instigated
because Churchill, who was already a major supporter of bombing, and Roosevelt did not want to re
create the horrors from bombing civilians in the form of terror bombing from World War two. As well
Stalin wanted a third front to keep pressured, menacing attacks on Germany, so a new front enabled a
workload shift from the Russians to the rest of the Allies air force. The Casablanca conference, 21
January 1943 was a turning point in the effectiveness of allied bombing against Germany. At
Casablanca, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to give the heaviest bombing offensive against the
German war machine. The combined leaders issued an order to the air forces to bring about the
destruction and dislocation of the German Military, industrial and economic system and the
undermining of the morale. This was done by the technique called Unconditional Surrender. This
means that the winner of the war is eligible to control the enemies land and borders, and the defeated
is given nothing. Diplomacy was the factor that controlled the bombing raids through the war. This
increased the significance of bombing for

Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour
Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest
that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can
only go so far in explaining individual decision making.
A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach,
which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738)
was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and
Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a
rational decision process. Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1947) explicitly outlined the ... Show more

In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse
and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would
choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not
without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of
reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence
suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People,
groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions
are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational
(where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory).
In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and
Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different
perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make
decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information
is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility
gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations

Essay on Compare and Contrast Comedy and Tragedy
Compare and Contrast Comedy and Tragedy
In a comparison of comedy and tragedy, I will begin by looking at narrative. The narration in a
comedy often involves union and togetherness as we see in the marriage scene at the end of
Midsummer s Night Dream. William Hazlitt tells us that one can also expect incongruities,
misunderstandings, and contradictions. I am reminded of the play The Importance of Being Ernest and
the humor by way of mistaken identity. Sigmund Freud tells us to expect excess and exaggeration in
comedy. Chekhov s Marriage Proposal displays this excess both in language and in movements.
Charles Darwin insists that in a comedy circumstances must not be of a momentous nature; whereas,
Northop Frye identifies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comic characters are often likable and sweet as Jack and Algeron in The Importance of Being Ernest.
Oliver Goldsmith characterizes comic characters as being good and exceedingly generous as well as
having an abundance of sentiment and feeling. Goldsmith is speaking especially of sentimental
comedy, the forerunner of the sit com. Tragic characters, however, are usually of a higher class, even
nobility Aristotle tells us. This seems to be more the case the further back in history we go. Oedipus
fits this description far better than the characters in Desire Under the Elms. Characters in tragedy may
be heroic and seem larger than life as does Hamlet. A quality of greatness is usually seen through
characters in a tragedy.
Comedies and tragedies also differ in their audience appeal. Hazlitt tells us when watching comedy we
laugh at what disappoints our expectations in trifles. But Henri Bergson warns us to expect laughter
without feeling. Bergson also believes that a group is necessary for comedy to work. George Meredith
says that comedy is dependent on a society where there is social freedom and common sense. This
may be why Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard is seen by some as a comedy but not by others. Since it
comments on social change, the humor would be a strain for Russian audiences who lack the social
freedom necessary to laugh at such ideas. Tragedy, on the other hand, evokes fear and pity according

Class Voting In Capitalist Democracies
After reading through the journal article Class voting in capitalist democracies since World War II:
Dealignment, realignment, or trendless fluctuation it was interesting to see how education and income
didn t play a part in how people associated with a political party. For example, those who are within
the affluent class would usually conjoin with those in the republic party, while those amongst the
lower or middle class would define themselves as democrats. Regardless of this belief, Manza, Hout,
and Brook demonstrate that the left wing (or democratic) party is more about distributing the wealth
and equal opportunity throughout the minority class. As a result, the left wing party speaks in favor of
the working class. Additionally, the right

Comparing Virgin Of The Rocks And The Last Supper
Introduction
This paper will explore the detail expressed through religion based renaissance art. The two works to
be explored here are The Last Supper and the Virgin of the Rocks, which both have Christian
references and have properties owing to the depictions of the main character in the painting. The Last
Supper was created in 1498, in Milan and is on oil and plaster; Virgin of the Rocks was created circa
1483 1486 and is oil on panel.
Works to Explore
In Virgin of the Rocks, a woman is sitting, surrounded by what looks like three children. They seem to
all be paying attention to the child she is holding, who is John the Baptist. In The Last Supper, 13
people sit at a table having a large feast. They are all engrosses in various conversations, ... Show

Both of these pictures have but biblical characters into settings that are unusual for the time. May and
Jesus are usually depicted on thrones or in ambiguous settings. However, both of these paintings show
that there is a more human element to these people. In Virgin of the Rocks, Mary is sitting on the
ground in a place where there are jagged rocks and various types of shrubbery. It seems to even be a
deserted area that is secluded and over grown. The figures are all located in a fabulous and mystical
landscape with rivers that seem to lead nowhere and bizarre rock formations, in the foreground we see
carefully observed and precisely rendered plants and flowers (Syson and Billinge, p. 5).This type of
representation of Mary is referred to as the Madonna of Humility (Freke Gandy, p. 34). When it comes
to Virgin of the Rocks, the point of interest that reveals the paintings subject are the hands of the
people. Mary has her right arm around the infant Saint John the Baptist who is making a gesture of
prayer to the Christ child, the Christ child in turn blesses St. John. Mary s left hand hovers protectively
over the head of her son while an angel looks out and points to St. John (p.

Interstate-Highway System Research Paper
Being a child in a military family, I ve seen a lot of highways and interstates, whether they re well
maintained or extremely hectic. These roads are what connect the entire country and make travel
easier. The history of our interstate highway systems involved many bumps in the road, but the United
States greatly benefitted from the building of these systems. Some challenges and benefits faced by
the government when creating the highway system were the need for safer roads, funding for
construction, and being an economy booster, while future challenges and benefits, as stated by U.S.
Secretary of Transportation, Elaine L Chao are predicted to be keeping safety the number one priority

since the days the roads were not even paved yet, and continues to be very important to ensure the
country is as efficient as possible. Funding for construction was hard to obtain when roads were just
starting to be improved. According to Arnesen, Congress even passed a Federal Aid Highway Act in
1944, but it didn t provide any money to fund construction (3). This made building roads that were of
decent quality much more difficult. So when the President s recently announced budget protected
operations that included safety, it opened up many opportunities for the U.S. Department of

Review of a Correlational Study
Review of a correlational study
The use of correlational studies is dominant across multiple disciplines. The social sciences as well as
the natural sciences make generous use of correlational studies. Correlation is not causation (Babbie
2007). Consequently, correlational studies examine changes in two variables an independent and a
dependent variable. The intent of the correlational study is to measure the degree of linear association
between the two variables under investigation. The association between the two variables is measured
using the correlation coefficient, r. The Pearson s Product Moment correlation is the most robust
measure of correlation and is generally used with interval level data (Gravetter and Wallnau 2008).
The study examined for this review is a correlational study because it measured the linear relationship
between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity in bladder cancer patients. The researchers employ
the Pearson s Product Moment (PPM) correlation as the correlational measure for the research. This
use of PPM is consistent with the data collected and supports the underlying assumption of the test.
The researchers demonstrate a linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity
using a scatter plot. The scatter plot is a legitimate graphical mechanism to identify linear relationships
(Norķ¼sis 2008). Additionally, the study was explanatory rather than predictive. Explanatory studies
tend to be correlational in terms of the

Essay on Taoism and Nature In Chinese Medicine
One of the oldest and most complete medical systems ever developed is traditional Chinese medicine.
The Taoist ideas and the importance of nature have been intertwined with Chinese Medicine from the
ancient beginnings of Chinese culture. Tao or way, is the major idea of Taoism: Man models himself
on earth, earth on heaven, heaven on the way, and the way on that which is naturally so . Taoism
teaches that human beings should be in harmony with nature, that is, with Tao (Y). Taoism celebrates
the forces of nature and recognizes the interplay of yin and yang in all things. The Taoist principles of
Yin Yang, the eight principles, Chi energy, and the five elements are tools used in Chinese medicine to
comprehend the web of phenomena as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This emphasis on perception of pattern is based on Taoist thought, which altogether lacks the idea of a
creator and the concern of which is insight into the web of phenomena, not a comprehension of the
weaver (Freeman, 311). The Taoist doctrine of balance and harmony or Yin Yang is the primary
guideline for Chinese medicine. All existence and activity, including health and disease, can be
explained by the interactions of yin and yang (Lu, 7). According to Chinese medicine illnesses are
caused by imbalances between the body s nutritive substances, the yin, and the functionaly activity of
the body, the yang. This principle is mirrored in nature except the imbalances between yin and yang
manifest as natural disasters instead of disease. These imbalances disrupted the flow of chi along the
body s energy pathways, known as meridians. Chi is believed to be the vital energy or life force that
drives every cell in the body. Physical, emotional, and mental harmony rely on the unobstructed flow
of chi. The Role of the five elements of nature (wood, water, metal, earth, and fire) is also recognized
by Chinese medication. The five elements are a subdivision of yin and yang. Each element denotes a
category of related functions and qualities and allows additional tools for diagnosis. The elements
allow distinctions concerning the direction of change of the yin and yang. The eight principles must
also be comprehended and addressed if the patient is to be made healthy and

The Madden Julian Oscillation and Its Effects on Eastern United States Climate
While a great deal of focus is placed on more longer term variabilities of the earth s climate system
such as the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) among
others, several smaller oscillations do exist that exert greater short term impacts on weather and
climate versus the aforementioned climatic phenomena. One of these is called the Madden Julian
Oscillation (MJO), and its variability plays a significant role in the climate of the Eastern United
States.
1. Introduction
The discovery of the MJO itself can be traced back to the late 1960s and early 1970s. Roland Madden
and Paul Julian discovered a regular pattern of variance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is variability itself in the strength of MJO events and the weather and climatic effects it may
produce. Strong MJO events seem to occur frequently before the onset of a warm ENSO event by
about 6 12 months, but then become considerably weaker once the warm ENSO event is in progress
(Kutsuwada and McPhaden 2002, McPhaden 2004). Other climate effects may depend on its phase.
Some events are more likely to be linked to certain phases than others, while other effects may lag in
time versus an immediate effect (Zhang 2013).
2. Phases of the MJO
Before discussing the actual effects of the MJO on the climate of the eastern United States, it is first
important to understand how the phases of the oscillation are described.
The most commonly used method is a eight phase system developed by the Australian Bureau of
Meteorology s Matthew Wheeler and Harry Hendon (2004) called the real time multivariate MJO
(RMM) index. It is derived from an analysis of the anomalies in upper and lower level zonal winds
and outgoing longwave radiation. In charted form (Fig. 1, right), the RMM shows the relative strength
of the MJO at any given point as well as its location.
In Phase 1, the center of the MJO (or where the center of the majority of the largest positive anomalies
in the rainfall) starts in the western Indian Ocean, as shown in Figure 2

Social Model And The Medical Model
In today s society two models dominate, the social model and the medical model. Both are used to
label those who have impairments. The social model focuses on fixing the society to fit in with
impairments which was introduced alongside the disability movement. The 18th century otherwise
knowns as the age of enlightenment saw the introduction of some although very primitive ideas of
human science and what may cause impairments with this came the ideals that today may be argued to
be held with credibility even after advances in medical care. These same doctors with the new found
confidence of medical science set out to cure impairments. The medical model is most prominent in
mainstream television is one show ran by fox focuses on the medical diagnoses of patients but also of
the main character of Dr Gregory House who has a physical impairment many episodes focuses on
this and even in a hospital environment is unable to access some areas and with medical intervention
he would be cured, although even with medication, operations and therapies to normalise him nothing
could fix his disability. The short time that Dr House was considered to be normal highlighted how he
changed as a doctor and person.
The Medical model otherwise known as the Psycho Medical can be defined as a framework which
focuses on gathering medical facts to establish the cause of the impairment and best course of action
to cure and how to best normalised the individual to fit in with today s society. The

The Sapphires By Wayne Blair Essay
The Sapphires by Wayne Blair was the trigger that led my research into the effects of the Stolen
Generation on Aboriginals in Australia. This film is about an Aboriginal singing group who want to
make a name for themselves, but find it difficult because of the racism against them. This film also
tells the stories of their cousin Kay, who was a half caste and was stolen from her Aboriginal family at
a young age to be taught the ways of white people, and forget her culture. This film made me realise
that I am lucky to live in a country where racism of such an extent in which children are stolen from
their indigenous families, isn t part of our history, and has not affected me personally. From my
research, I have found six main sources that have helped me to understand how large this problem was
and continues to be. My sources: The Sapphires by Wayne Blair; a film about a group of Aboriginal
singers who are affected by racism which is based on a real life singing group; The Sorry Speech , by
Kevin Rudd who was the Prime Minister of Australia in 2008 who explains the damage and
apologises for the way that the actions of past governments tore apart the lives of their indigenous
people. Then there is Blind Eye, the documentary in which people who were stolen are interviewed
and tell their stories. The film, Rabbit Proof Fence this tells the story of two girls who were stolen and
gives us insight into how brutally that they were treated after being ripped apart from

In car sales I have to look at 3 components the producer price index and gas and fuel prices. Looking
at auto sales is a good way to look at demand for automobiles. The higher the consumer demands the
more or less should be produced. Fuel prices as well as oil have a dramatic impact on auto sales, if
prices are up the less likely the consumer will opt for a large vehicle. When buying a vehicle is good to
look at buying a CPI (Consumer price index) measures the average change over time in the selling
prices received by domestic producers for the output (Bureau of Labor Statistics 2015) Another thing
to analyze are interest rates as they are important to our economy. Interest rates lead to more
businesses borrowing money; if interest rates are low that means consumer will buy the product.
Interest rates are charged by the country s central or federal bank loans and advances to control money
supply in the economy in the banking sector which is typically done in a quarter bases to control
inflation and stabilizes the country s exchange rate . ( Kirch,Vick 2006). Interest rates and
unemployment rates usually go hand in hand in the auto industry it seems. When the auto industry is
going steady and heading towards a peak performance, unemployment is low and interest rates are a
little higher due to supply and demand. During recession in the automobile industry

When he first gets to the meeting, he enters just to sit and rest until someone encourages him to listen
to the speech. To his surprise, the speaker is pointing out the terrible conditions that workers face each
day. Additionally, he talks about how capitalists grind most workers into capitulation. Jurgis has never
heard anyone speak so vividly of the realities he was facing each day, causing him much joy. This was
the first time a political party was in favor of the working class rather than the privileged and wealthy.
Sinclair does an excellent job of developing the theme of reform from capitalism to socialism. As he
speaks to Ostrinski, a Lithuanian speaking socialist, he is informed that just because America is
politically free doesn t mean there is no wage slavery . When Jurgis finds a new job, under a socialist
boss, Sinclair makes it obvious that this is a much better political party than capitalism since Jurgis is
making thirty plus dollars each month. This new wage is nothing compared to the amount he was
making before. Throughout the novel capitalism is portrayed as a destructive form of government
while Sinclair promotes socialism. Another major reform that the novel called for is a labor force
reform. Along with the government, political, and police all being corrupt, there were little to no labor
laws, building codes, or health inspections. Thousands

Oil Sand Industry In Canada
One of the major contributors to both our economy and the environment is the tar sand industry, and

economy benefits that the oil sands bring to our country. Canada is the parent of one of the major oil

unemployment, living expense and etc. Economy is one of the most important factors that affects the
lives of people because people s investments, jobs and the quality of their lives depends on the
economy. If the economy crashes, lots of people will lose their jobs and the quality of their lives will
decrease day by day. Tar sands operation generates a lot of money for Canada and it is one of the main
contributors to the economy. The government is getting lots of money from the companies that are in
control of these operations. Those companies have to pay a lot of taxes and royalties to the
government and beside that they have to pay for leasing the government lands that they are currently

dollars from the tax and the royalties that they got from the oil sand companies in 2012. Also IHS
indicates that 6% of the federal government income which is around 15 billion dollar is from the tar
sand productions. So, The tar sand operations is a good source of income for the government and that
means that the Canadian government has lots of more money to spend on the areas that need

The Plan For An Integrative Negotiation
Introduction Negotiation is the process whereby people attempt to settle what each shall give and take
or perform and receive in a transaction between them as defined by Rubin and Brown (as quoted in
Stoshikj, 2014, p. 32). This action is usually held between two parties or more in order to discover a
common ground or reach a mutual agreement. It has come under the company s attention that there are
some unresolved issues regarding several different concerns such as air pollution, water contamination
and council land rates on company land in Mortlake, Queensland. Strategy Implemented Overall, the
integrative strategy will be implemented in most of the negotiating process. Van Boven and Thompson
(as cited in Dong Won, 2010) indicated that when both parties are involved in an integrative
negotiation, they get a more exact idea of what the other party desires and increasing the possibility of
mutual gain (p. 2). Furthermore, Pruitt; Thompson (as cited in Han, Kwon, Bae Park, 2012) mentioned
that the negotiators are able to benefit from the win win situation, meanwhile preserving the
relationship (p. 1). While both parties are trying to resolve the current issues, maintaining a strong
relationship is more important as both parties are reliant on each other. The first issue, which is the
deteriorating air quality, is connected to the absence of road paving. While almost half of the roads are
actually company owned and used to transport the minerals, the council insisted

There are many scenes were Maximus is fighting for his life and the intense music made those scenes
nerve wracking. The sad scenes had the sensitive music in the background which made everything
more dramatic to a point where I caught myself tearing up. I categorize the movie to be mostly drama,
so I found the music to be a combination of intense, dramatic, and suspenseful.
I completely felt like I was viewing the time period being shown in the movie. The costumes were
great, and fit everyone s role perfectly. The costumes for the Gladiators included armor and the cape, a
helmet, a sword, and a shield. This is all the equipment needed for a Gladiator to survive and defend
himself. The costumes for the Lucilla and Commodus were appropriate for their role in the movie as
well. They were the high class people in the movie so they wore big coats and expensive clothing with
a lot of layers.
The film was well photographed and the visuals were good. The scene were Maximus has visions of
his wife and son waiting for him in an open field with a long road was well photographed. I also
enjoyed the visual Maximus looking at the chained tiger in one of his fights. Finally, I thought the

Slaves, people who had never been admitted to influence the religious sector of the Nation were now
standing up, and making their voices heard. A patriots History says, There were transformations of
attitudes about social relationships, health, prisons, education, and the status of women and African
American slaves.... [This] grew into a substantial Jacksonian reform movement. This moral reform
movement was driven by three main beliefs, or Isms. These were Communal ism, Feminism, and
Abolitionism, all leading us up directly to the Civil War Without the dissent caused by these new
movements, it is quite possible that the Civil War would have ... Show more content on

This rejection of traditionally held values in regard to women, led to the very next Ism, Feminism.
Feminism was a Utopians dream because it advocated greatly expanded roles for women. By the time
of the precedent setting New York State court case Mercein v. People in 1842, women had gained
many other rights. In Mercein vs. People a woman was awarded custody of children for the first time
in history. Up till this point women had gained property rights within marriage in several Ohio and
Mississippi Valley states, and the trend was spreading, fast, and divorce became slightly more
prevalent, with the legal grounds increased. With the growth of the Industrial Revolution, women were
given work opportunities, and with a rising demand for teachers more and more women were
becoming educated in institutions. Nursing jobs also became popular. In1849, Elizabeth Blackwell
received her M.D. degree from the Medical Institution of Geneva, N.Y., becoming the first woman in
the U.S. with a medical degree. All these causes lead women, inevitably, towards feminism, a socio
religious and socio political philosophy born at the end of the Age of Jackson. Feminism was affecting
moral reform, and was right there at the heart. These women activists pushed and shoved till they got
their way. The final force was the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls, New York on 1848.

Essay on School Violence
On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on Columbine Highschool killing
twelve fellow classmates and one teacher. School violence changes our youths morals. From bullying
to peer pressure, youth are exposed to school violence everyday. What is school violence? School
violence varies from accounts of death, homicide, suicide, weapon related violence, in the US. (c1)
School violence can occur to and from school, while attending a school sponsored event, on a bus, or
at an activity.
Violence in school goes back to the 1800s . The first publicly funded schools for delinquents was built
in Massachussettes during 1847. In 1899 Illinois established the first statewide court for children .

(d1) The National Crime Victimization Survey states that nearly two point seven million violent
crimes take place each year, on school campus, or near school campus.
Most children and teens are left home alone and unattended after school between three and seven pm.
The current generation today are latchkey children . When a child is left without adult supervision the
child has the opportunity to get into trouble easier. Violent video games teach children to kill or be
killed .(b14) Modern entertainment allows youth to play games with cutting edge graphics and digital
technology to enhance the realism of the game. When no parents are around to supervise the television
it is not being monitored properly. The NIA has found that the ratings system is weak and parents are
still complaining. Children see violence occurring in television, and also in movies. Movies depict
scenes of violence whether it be , violent scenes, or violent action heroes. Some children do not
understand reality vs. video game and movie fantasy. Problems and issues at home are commonly
found when families suffer from family violence, divorce, drug abuse, poor income, unemployment,
and illness.
Bullies at school cause an impact on youth. Children and teens are harassed verbally and physically.
Bullies usually suffer from a delinquency case before age 13, low family income, poor school
performance, psychomotor clumsiness, low non verbal IQ, sibling convicted of crime,

Balancing Solidarity and Empathy
Going through life pathways you develop a sense of what you want to do with your time and with
your life so, it is asked what is more important to ones personal fulfillment furthermore, what
decisions and values are most important to you? Some believe that being in solidarity has more
advantages with getting tasks done than being around others for example, in the essay The Rewards of
Living a Solidarity Life author Mary Sarton explained that, Human intercourse often demands that we
soften the edge of perception, or withdraw at the very instant of personal truth for fear of hurting, or
being inappropriately present (42). Others argue that having empathy for others can be better for you
and for the world, in the memoir by author Azar Nafisi Mysterious Connections that Link Us Together
, says Through imagination and our desire for rappart we transcend our limitations, freshen our eyes,
and are able to look at ourselves and the world through a new and alternative lens (44). Balancing
alone time and working with others brings out the best in everybody and can be important for ones
personal fulfillment.
One of the arguments in personal relationships and having empathy for others is that empathy is
feeling that you understand and share another person s experience and emotions: the ability to share
someone else s feelings, for example Nafisi says I believe in the kind of empathy that is created
through imagination and through intimate, personal relationships (44). Some

Taking intelligent risks in life is very important because if the risk that you take is deemed intelligent,
then you can only be benefiting. The risk you take has possible outcomes and they must be determined
before you decide to take the risk or not. To determine the outcomes, you must make every outcome a
possibility because in a risk, anything can happen. When taking an intelligent risk, you must also
realize that it doesn t have to be a drastic risk. Taking intelligent risks in life can be deemed intelligent

A risk deemed foolish is when the possible outcomes are substantially not in your favor or interest. An
intelligent risk is when you know and understand the severity of the risk and when the outcomes will
be good and no harm will be done. Risks in life are very important however, you must realize the
importance of intelligent risks. Taking intelligent risks have very good consequences compared to
taking a risk. There are many consequences for avoiding risks. If you are always avoiding risks, there
are some values that you will not obtain such as you may overcome a fear of them. Also, when the
time comes that you must take a risk, you could be unprepared because you haven t had any
experience. Taking intelligent risks outweigh the negative consequences of never taking a risk in
several ways. This is true because an intelligent risk is backed by several reasons why you should take
that risk. When you never take a risk, you are inexperienced and it will become difficult to cope with
having to take a risk for the first time. Taking intelligent risks in life is very important to living better.
When you take an intelligent risk, you can only enhance your style of living. If you have to take an
intelligent risk, such as having surgery, it can save your life and help you enhance your life. You
should never avoid risks and you should never always take risks, you have to know what risks are
necessary. Risks in life will never

Examples Of America s Founding Fathers
Did you ever wonder how the United States founders envisioned America to be in the years to come?
America s founding fathers were tasked with the difficult challenge of finding a balance between
preserving individual rights and forming a strong, long lasting union. There are many examples of
how the founding fathers found a balance. Some examples of this are showcased in the Declaration of
Independence, the Bill of Rights, and A New American Nation.
A New American Nation shows that the founding fathers believed that there are certain rights that an a
person is created with. A New American Nation reports that Jefferson s eloquent and stirring
articulation of the natural law that would govern America proclaimed the idea that people are born
with rights and freedoms that government must protect . Thomas Jefferson s ideals would preserve the
rights of each person while they are located in the United States of America. Jefferson is able to
preserve the rights of the American people, by stating that some of the rights that are bestowed
towards citizens must be protected by their government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prejudice Research Paper
Prejudice Paper
Today we still see prejudice every day and sometimes it is often overlooked. Fortunately, this is
something we have gotten better at but there is still work to be done. It is important to know what
defines prejudice and understand how to be self aware. Developing good strategies to overcome
prejudice is also important in order to better understand this topic. We should understand why people
hold prejudice and how it affects people.
Prejudice, is a judgement based on the assumption that we already have all the information we need to
know about a person. (Steven A. Beebe) Antisemitism during modern times is one of the most severe
examples of prejudice throughout history. This prejudice towards the Jewish people during 1933 1945
is considered to be one of the worst atrocities ever.
According to Maslow s framework, and the four stages of competence. We can use self awareness to
help prevent prejudice. The first stage of competence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way an individual can prevent prejudice is through self awareness and educating themselves on
how and why prejudice happens. Understanding the history of prejudice is also important in
prevention. If an individual finds themselves a victim of prejudice, they should not be quiet about it
and should know it is not acceptable to be treated this way.
Although prejudice is still very much alive in our society and all types of people experience prejudice
due to many reasons. Today It has become less acceptable though because of the understanding of
what it is and with the correct awareness it should continue to get better. Understanding what defines
prejudice and the type of steps that we can use are going to be needed. Knowing why it happens is just
an important to preventing prejudice as well. Lastly I hope we never have to see extreme forms of
prejudice like antisemitism again as we should learn from history as

  • 2. Iraq Persecution In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12 NIV). But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (Matthew 5:23 NIV). In the entire world, there are 22 billion documented Christians and three fourth of them live in the West, which is tolerant. Things are different in the Middle East, as a Christian, we suffer more persecution than any other religion in the world, but as we suffer, we are on the pathway to triumph as we suffer for believing in God and the Bible. The Bible is so powerful that it has been banned from such countries. The persecution in the Middle East is leading the elimination of the religion as a whole. The Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, has called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iraq has a democracy that is imposed by gunpoint which leads to the continuous persecution of the country s Christian population. Because of this persecution, such as murders, kidnappings, rape, intimidation, and some even beheaded for not wanting to convert to Islam, of the 1.4 million Christians living in Iraq before the war, only 400,000 remain. Many have left to join the indigenous Christians of Syria, which there are around two million. In Syria, Christians are persecuted by the western supported, Saudi financed, and Islamist dominated Syrian rebels, (Harris). Many Christians and secular communities fear that soon the Sunni Islamists are going to gain control of the government, and no one will be safe (Manfreda). Non Muslims are only tolerated if they pay the jizya tax, unless you re a priest. In July 2013, Syrian Catholic priest, Father FranƧois Murad was murdered, but he wasn t the first. A Syrian Orthodox priest, Father Fadi Haddad, was grabbed last December as he left his church to negotiate the release of a kidnapped parishioner. His body was found by the roadside, the eyes gouged out. Islamists react wherever they are in control, and the government doesn t step in to stop them. The government refuses to acknowledge the maltreatment of Christians (Harris). The government is the problem of most of the things that are going on in Syria ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MIRRORING IN OD Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a community of practice to improve the way they address issues and solve problems. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions, assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices, and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure) [pic] .Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning, stage for basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing, that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic, active learning, problem finding, and problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the form of a written report but ... When a researcher is trying to collect documents and publications for what is studying or analyzing, it is very likely that only see, or just to notice what it suits for what he wants to prove. Moreover, even almost unconsciously, it is liable to see more quickly connections with other publications that seem to corroborate their investigations. Unfortunately, this confirmation bias affects not only scientific studies. It concerns us all. • 6. Analysis Of The Poem Of His Coy Mistress By Andrew... Ryan James Mrs. Dawson English II 21 September 2014 Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final, stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for the future. In the first stanza, the speaker uses various forms of flattery to convince his coy mistress to make love and live in the moment. In the first few lines, the speaker communicates to his addressee, the mistress, that if had we but world enough, and time, (1), meaning, if time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Should People Be Allowed To Keep Pitbulls As Pets Essay Dogs are friendly, loyal house pets. They are intelligent, so they can provide services to people, such as working with police officers at airports searching bags for bombs and illegal drugs. Dogs work as guards protecting families and their most valuable belongings. Many disabled people live with trained dogs. These animals are versatile, intelligent and loyal. By far, dogs are more superior pets than any other pet. People should be allowed to keep pit bulls as pets because there is a lot of misunderstood information that people do not know about, and they are not aggressive, and they are an excellent dog/ pet. Many people have wrong information about pit bulls. After adopting a pit bull herself, Dickey was shocked to witness the negative responses her pet evoked (Kirkus). These dogs are very smart, and most everybody does not realize that. They are very easy to train and learn things quickly. Back in the day, pit bulls were used to help hunters hunt and kill bears. • 8. The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1) series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1) processes. It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series. Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into account a structural break in the series, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Germanic Influence on Higher Education Germanic Influence on Higher Education Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the case before the 19th century. The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). • 12. Asian Immigrants And The American Dream The American Dream, a belief that draws immigrants to the US with the hope being able to work hard for a better life. One of the groups that believe in this dream are Asian Immigrants. Children of these Asian immigrants have a unique expectation to live up to. Their parents came to America in search of a better life, so they are pushed to achieve this desired life. Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan exposes this expectation through the stories of the character s childhoods. But in the real world, these standard push Asian students to the top of their classes and centralized Asian student goals around their grades. Some parents, for example, Amy Chua, have an even higher expectation for their children. Why Chinese mothers are superior, tells of the stereotypical tiger mom, who expects the most of their children, excelling them even further into the vision of the American dream. But even with all the excellence the Asian students emits, university acceptance is another story. Articles like The model minority is losing patience in the Economist and Justice Department investigating Harvard s affirmative action policies by Susan Svrluga and Nick Anderson discuss the disadvantage Asians have when applying to the top universities. With so many Asians prospering in school, the racial quotas universities are suspected of having increase the difficulty for an Asian to be accepted. • 14. Dogmatic Differences Between The Roman Catholic Church And... Dogmatic Differences Between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church Christianity is a major world religion with several branches, which, despite sharing common ideas and beliefs, have developed significant differences over the course of history. Perhaps the greatest breach in the Church happened in 1054 and is called the Great Schism. The causes of this division are sophisticated and rooted in history. To put it shortly, even before the Roman Empire was split into the Western and the Byzantine Empires, the independent development of the Latin speaking West and the Greek speaking East led to significant differences in scholarly cultures and traditions. This controversy resulted in the Schism; the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church were declared as two separate churches. There have been numerous discussions and works that describe the differences between these two branches of Christianity. However, an average learner should treat any matter he reads on the subject carefully, since academic works are not so widely available, and the sources that are readily ... The Pope has supreme authority over church councils and should be respected by all other bishops. However, the Pope s authority is only prevalent in regards to practicing of common faith and spiritual leadership. Of course, there have been cases where the Pope abused his power, but at least in theory the Pope is not a dictator ruling with absolute power over the Church. Allied Strategic Bombing Analysis Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in total war, deployed with the goal of defeating the enemy, by destroying their morale or their economic ability to produce and transport material to the theatres of military operations. The four areas in which the significance of Allied strategic bombing will be assessed are: economic, diplomacy, morale and the effect it had on the fighting fronts in Europe. The First area of strategic bombing to be assessed is the effect it had on scattering the German military from their posted Fronts and the destruction of the Luftwaffe. The bombing raids on Germany drew defenses that were positioned on the Eastern Front and in other areas to try and counter the incoming Allie aircraft. German anti tank defenses ... The third front tightened the relationship between the Allie countries and from then was able to work together in attempts to defeat the Nazis regime. Strategic bombing was only instigated because Churchill, who was already a major supporter of bombing, and Roosevelt did not want to re create the horrors from bombing civilians in the form of terror bombing from World War two. As well Stalin wanted a third front to keep pressured, menacing attacks on Germany, so a new front enabled a workload shift from the Russians to the rest of the Allies air force. The Casablanca conference, 21 January 1943 was a turning point in the effectiveness of allied bombing against Germany. At Casablanca, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to give the heaviest bombing offensive against the German war machine. The combined leaders issued an order to the air forces to bring about the destruction and dislocation of the German Military, industrial and economic system and the undermining of the morale. This was done by the technique called Unconditional Surrender. This means that the winner of the war is eligible to control the enemies land and borders, and the defeated is given nothing. • 16. Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can only go so far in explaining individual decision making. A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach, which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738) was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a rational decision process. In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People, groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational (where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory). In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Essay on Compare and Contrast Comedy and Tragedy Compare and Contrast Comedy and Tragedy In a comparison of comedy and tragedy, I will begin by looking at narrative. The narration in a comedy often involves union and togetherness as we see in the marriage scene at the end of Midsummer s Night Dream. William Hazlitt tells us that one can also expect incongruities, misunderstandings, and contradictions. I am reminded of the play The Importance of Being Ernest and the humor by way of mistaken identity. Sigmund Freud tells us to expect excess and exaggeration in comedy. Chekhov s Marriage Proposal displays this excess both in language and in movements. Charles Darwin insists that in a comedy circumstances must not be of a momentous nature; whereas, Northop Frye identifies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comic characters are often likable and sweet as Jack and Algeron in The Importance of Being Ernest. Oliver Goldsmith characterizes comic characters as being good and exceedingly generous as well as having an abundance of sentiment and feeling. Goldsmith is speaking especially of sentimental comedy, the forerunner of the sit com. Tragic characters, however, are usually of a higher class, even nobility Aristotle tells us. This seems to be more the case the further back in history we go. Oedipus fits this description far better than the characters in Desire Under the Elms. Characters in tragedy may be heroic and seem larger than life as does Hamlet. A quality of greatness is usually seen through characters in a tragedy. Comedies and tragedies also differ in their audience appeal. Hazlitt tells us when watching comedy we laugh at what disappoints our expectations in trifles. But Henri Bergson warns us to expect laughter without feeling. Bergson also believes that a group is necessary for comedy to work. George Meredith says that comedy is dependent on a society where there is social freedom and common sense. This may be why Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard is seen by some as a comedy but not by others. Since it comments on social change, the humor would be a strain for Russian audiences who lack the social freedom necessary to laugh at such ideas. Tragedy, on the other hand, evokes fear and pity according ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Class Voting In Capitalist Democracies After reading through the journal article Class voting in capitalist democracies since World War II: Dealignment, realignment, or trendless fluctuation it was interesting to see how education and income didn t play a part in how people associated with a political party. For example, those who are within the affluent class would usually conjoin with those in the republic party, while those amongst the lower or middle class would define themselves as democrats. Regardless of this belief, Manza, Hout, and Brook demonstrate that the left wing (or democratic) party is more about distributing the wealth and equal opportunity throughout the minority class. The two works to be explored here are The Last Supper and the Virgin of the Rocks, which both have Christian references and have properties owing to the depictions of the main character in the painting. The Last Supper was created in 1498, in Milan and is on oil and plaster; Virgin of the Rocks was created circa 1483 1486 and is oil on panel. The figures are all located in a fabulous and mystical landscape with rivers that seem to lead nowhere and bizarre rock formations, in the foreground we see carefully observed and precisely rendered plants and flowers (Syson and Billinge, p. 5).This type of representation of Mary is referred to as the Madonna of Humility (Freke Gandy, p. 34). When it comes to Virgin of the Rocks, the point of interest that reveals the paintings subject are the hands of the people. Some challenges and benefits faced by the government when creating the highway system were the need for safer roads, funding for construction, and being an economy booster, while future challenges and benefits, as stated by U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine L Chao are predicted to be keeping safety the number one priority of the roads, the President announcing a budget for transportation systems, and smart technology still requiring human interaction. ... Funding for construction was hard to obtain when roads were just starting to be improved. According to Arnesen, Congress even passed a Federal Aid Highway Act in 1944, but it didn t provide any money to fund construction (3). The social sciences as well as the natural sciences make generous use of correlational studies. Correlation is not causation (Babbie 2007). Consequently, correlational studies examine changes in two variables an independent and a dependent variable. The intent of the correlational study is to measure the degree of linear association between the two variables under investigation. The association between the two variables is measured using the correlation coefficient, r. The Pearson s Product Moment correlation is the most robust measure of correlation and is generally used with interval level data (Gravetter and Wallnau 2008). The study examined for this review is a correlational study because it measured the linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity in bladder cancer patients. The researchers employ the Pearson s Product Moment (PPM) correlation as the correlational measure for the research. This use of PPM is consistent with the data collected and supports the underlying assumption of the test. The researchers demonstrate a linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity using a scatter plot. The scatter plot is a legitimate graphical mechanism to identify linear relationships (Norķ¼sis 2008). Additionally, the study was explanatory rather than predictive. The Taoist ideas and the importance of nature have been intertwined with Chinese Medicine from the ancient beginnings of Chinese culture. Tao or way, is the major idea of Taoism: Man models himself on earth, earth on heaven, heaven on the way, and the way on that which is naturally so . Taoism teaches that human beings should be in harmony with nature, that is, with Tao (Y). Taoism celebrates the forces of nature and recognizes the interplay of yin and yang in all things. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This emphasis on perception of pattern is based on Taoist thought, which altogether lacks the idea of a creator and the concern of which is insight into the web of phenomena, not a comprehension of the weaver (Freeman, 311). The Taoist doctrine of balance and harmony or Yin Yang is the primary guideline for Chinese medicine. All existence and activity, including health and disease, can be explained by the interactions of yin and yang (Lu, 7). According to Chinese medicine illnesses are caused by imbalances between the body s nutritive substances, the yin, and the functionaly activity of the body, the yang. This principle is mirrored in nature except the imbalances between yin and yang manifest as natural disasters instead of disease. These imbalances disrupted the flow of chi along the body s energy pathways, known as meridians. Chi is believed to be the vital energy or life force that drives every cell in the body. Physical, emotional, and mental harmony rely on the unobstructed flow of chi. The Role of the five elements of nature (wood, water, metal, earth, and fire) is also recognized by Chinese medication. The five elements are a subdivision of yin and yang. Each element denotes a category of related functions and qualities and allows additional tools for diagnosis. The elements allow distinctions concerning the direction of change of the yin and yang. The eight principles must also be comprehended and addressed if the patient is to be made healthy and ... One of these is called the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), and its variability plays a significant role in the climate of the Eastern United States. 1. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is variability itself in the strength of MJO events and the weather and climatic effects it may produce. Strong MJO events seem to occur frequently before the onset of a warm ENSO event by about 6 12 months, but then become considerably weaker once the warm ENSO event is in progress (Kutsuwada and McPhaden 2002, McPhaden 2004). Other climate effects may depend on its phase. Some events are more likely to be linked to certain phases than others, while other effects may lag in time versus an immediate effect (Zhang 2013). 2. Phases of the MJO Before discussing the actual effects of the MJO on the climate of the eastern United States, it is first important to understand how the phases of the oscillation are described. The most commonly used method is a eight phase system developed by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology s Matthew Wheeler and Harry Hendon (2004) called the real time multivariate MJO (RMM) index. It is derived from an analysis of the anomalies in upper and lower level zonal winds and outgoing longwave radiation. In charted form (Fig. 1, right), the RMM shows the relative strength of the MJO at any given point as well as its location. There are many scenes were Maximus is fighting for his life and the intense music made those scenes nerve wracking. The sad scenes had the sensitive music in the background which made everything more dramatic to a point where I caught myself tearing up. I categorize the movie to be mostly drama, so I found the music to be a combination of intense, dramatic, and suspenseful. I completely felt like I was viewing the time period being shown in the movie. The costumes were great, and fit everyone s role perfectly. The costumes for the Gladiators included armor and the cape, a helmet, a sword, and a shield. This is all the equipment needed for a Gladiator to survive and defend himself. The costumes for the Lucilla and Commodus were appropriate for their role in the movie as well. They were the high class people in the movie so they wore big coats and expensive clothing with a lot of layers. The film was well photographed and the visuals were good. The scene were Maximus has visions of his wife and son waiting for him in an open field with a long road was well photographed. I also enjoyed the visual Maximus looking at the chained tiger in one of his fights. Finally, I thought the scene were Commodus made a raw facial expression with his tongue out because of all the blood when the Barbarians fought the Gladiators was well ...
