Neil Degrasse Tyson s Dwarf Book
Neil DeGrasse Tyson s dwarf book is much like Pluto: It s got plenty of interesting facts however it is
mostly appreciated for the illustrations. Dr. Tyson s new book, the publication is a space nonfiction of
Pluto s fall from planethood. Dr. Tyson wrote this book to explore the reasons why Pluto was demoted
from the status of being a planet and all of the history behind the discovery. Also, due to his vast
interest in Astronomy, Dr.Tyson was influenced to write The Pluto Files.
Clyde Tombaugh, during his discovery of the planet Pluto, was a farm boy and an ameteur astronomer
employed by Arizona s Lowell Observatory in search of the mysterious Planet X. During his search,

In America, the mnemonic about Pluto changed to pizza, one of the most favoured dish in America.
This quote from page 18 in The Pluto Files, explained how America s favourite food, pizza, was used
as a mnemonic which enabled students to learn about the Solar System in sequence. However, with
technological and scientific advancements Pluto faced serious issues in the years ahead. Pluto by far
was the least massive planet, with less than 5 percent of the mass of Mercury, the solar system s next
smallest planet. The orbit of Pluto is very flat from a perfect circle. In fact, Pluto spends 20 years of its
248 year orbit closer to Neptune than to the Sun. Pluto s orbit is not only oblong, it tips more than 17
degrees from the plane of the solar system, a full of 10 degrees more than Mercury s orbit.
Pluto s largest moon Charon was discovered in June 1978 by USNO s James Christy when he spotted
a suspicious bump on an elongated shape of Pluto and when further researched and examined, the
evidence stated that Pluto had a moon. Richard Binzel and his collaborators confirmed Charon s
existence in February 1985, when the moon eclipsed Pluto, visibly reducing the total light emitted by

Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space
In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story,
Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people
don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a
color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space , Staples makes the
reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples
emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit
language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he
expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim
provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a
threat feels.
The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart
is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private space
surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples, Quindlen uses
implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public space can be
threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the streets can be
perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically,

Define Bottom Up And Top Down Reading Strategies Essay
1). Define bottom up and top down reading strategies. Be sure to give three examples of each strategy.
Top down is the process of understanding the whole picture. This means that the reader does not
actually read the text word for word, but instead he uses his prior knowledge to fill up the gaps. The
reader experience and his language cognitive abilities allow him to understand the the sentence by
looking at keywords that would provide him with enough information based on his prior knowledge to
decode the whole sentence. this technique requires some sort of appropriate proficiency level to be
efficient which can be best applied for intermediate and advanced students. Bottom up is when the
reader tries to understand the small details starting by the smallest to the largest meaningful part of the
language starting by letters, clauses, sentences, and then phrases. After that, the reader will connect
these details and apply it to the text. this technique usually used with beginner learners. Examples for
top down: ● Previewing: asking students about the title or let them read couples of sentences and then
ask them what will happen next. ● Vocabulary mapping: students write all the vocabularies they know
about the topic. which can activate their prior knowledge. ● Group discussion: students group up to
discuss what they have read and what is their reflections. for example, after finishing a chapter from a
story. Example for Bottom up: ● Read aloud: asking students to read aloud

Wild At Heart Analysis
The 1990 film, Wild at Heart directed by David Lynch, is a violent satire on the power struggle of a
working class criminal and his girlfriend who are fighting against the girlfriend s evil psycho mother
who wants him dead because the mother is controlling and jealous of her daughter s sexuality and
youth. The film follows young rebellious lovers, Sailor and Luna who seek to run away from the
craziness of their worlds to live a fantasy but end up finding the violent reality of America. Lula s
mom, Marietta causes them to face obstacles within their relationship by trying to get Sailor killed
twice. These young lovers decide to run from their problems and go on a road trip to California, on
their way they make stops in New Orleans and Texas. Throughout the film there are concepts and
terms of the comic spirit that are showcased throughout the film such as parody, bragger male
archetype, euphemisms, contamination, disguise, parabasis, and inversion. The films main character
Sailor, is a parody of Elvis. Sailor is a hyper masculine character, with a manic energy, and vocal
mannerisms like Elvis Presley. The parody of Elvis not only is shown through Sailors vocal
mannerism but also in the film we see examples of parabasis where Sailor stops the band playing and
begins to sing Love Me by Elvis to Lula. During this scene, while Sailor is singing we hear girls
screaming in admiration as if Elvis was actually the one singing. The girls that surround Sailor while
he singing, look

Self Disclosure In Social Work Essay
In Social Work practice there are different criteria about social workers self disclose to clients. Some
of them consider that it is positive, and this kind of disclosure does not affect the social work or
clinical practice. The other side, there are others point of views that consider self disclosure to clients
a Code of Ethic transgression or violation. In my opinion, I consider that social workers should not
self disclose to client in order to keep high standard in clinical practice and avoid conflicts of interest.
This kind of practice is an evident violation of the Code of Ethic that rules our profession. The Code
of Ethic is very clear about this particular issue since multiples conflicts of interest may arise during

What Are Agreeable People
According to Robbins and Judge (2013) agreeableness refers to individual s propensity to defer others.
Highly agreeable people are cooperative, warm and trusting and enormously likeable. Top performers
refers to individuals who are highly productive and person who always worked on developing their
work skills and job performance (Harpham, n.d.). Top performers are usually very decisive and
determined in every single task they do, and most of them are aspire to be leaders by working hard
and focusing on their life goals.
In our opinion, employer should choose agreeable employees over top performers because most of
agreeable individuals are easily adapt to new environment and company s workforce policy. These
kind of employees are ready to work in any industries or position even they know they will earn lower
salaries than others and attracted to jobs both in public sector and non profit organizations. ... Show

Agreeableness reflects individual differences in concern with cooperation and social harmony.
Agreeable people are likely to get along with people effortlessly. These people are certainly to help
others at work despite any moods and rewards (Ilies, Scott Judge, 2006). They are extremely
considerate, friendly, generous, helpful, and willing to compromise their interests with others. Thus,
they will create a warm environment in the company and there is no doubt that their colleagues would
feel comfortable than ever.
Agreeable people also have an optimistic view of human nature and always look things in a bright
side. They believe people are basically honest, decent, and trustworthy (Lall Sharma, 2009). They tend
to be kinder, and to do better in interpersonally oriented jobs such as customer service as they can

A Farewell To Arms Essay
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway is based largely on Hemingway s own personal
experiences. The main character of the book, Frederic Henry experiences many of the same situations
that Hemingway experienced. Some of these experiences are exactly the same, while some are less
similar, and some events have a completely different outcome.
A Farewell to Arms is the book of Frederic Henry, an American driving an ambulance for the Italian
Army during World War I. The book takes us through Frederic s experiences in war and his love affair
with Catherine Barkley, an American nurse in Italy. The book starts in the northern mountains of Italy
at the beginning of World War I. Rinaldi, Frederic s roommate, takes him ... Show more content on

In both cases, the relationships with these women were strengthened while the men were hospitalized.
Another difference is that in A Farewell to Arms, Catherine and her child died while she was giving
birth, this was not the case with Agnes, who left Henry for another Italian Army officer. These slight
changes allowed Hemingway, an extremely private man, to try and prove to the public that it was not
himself and his own experiences which he was writing about.
There is great power in being an author; you can make things happen which do not necessarily occur
in real life. Hemingway felt throughout his life, powerless, and so to escape this, he created alternative
lives by writing stories. Hemingway, who fell in love with Agnes, an American nurse, seven years
older than he, while wounded in Milan, was deeply hurt after she didn t return his affections. While
the beginning of A Farewell to Arms, up until this point is similar, this is where the story changes. In
the book, Frederic and Catherine are both in love with each other. Hemingway continued his affair
with Agnes through Frederic and Catherine. He put his dreams of what his faded love affair would
have been like in the love scenes between Catherine and Frederic:

Comparing Fuentes’Aura and Ligotti’s The Last Feast of...
Mythological and Archetypal Reading of Fuentes Aura and Ligotti s The Last Feast of Harlequin
Mythological and archetypal techniques coupled with the interpretation of symbolism found within a

only does it allow you to delve deeper into this collective mind and speculate about the meaning of a
particular work, it can give you something more. I believe that by using these techniques you also get
a better glimpse into the main character s state of mind. It also gives you clues as to is going on behind
the scenes that will affect the character s mental state.

These associations made it easier for him to become committed to Aura and Consuelo.
Now that we have seen some of the symbols that could have affected Felipe s mind, now we will
explore some of the symbols that indicate something was going on behind the scenes. The fist symbol
I would mention is darkness. As I stated earlier, it is primarily a symbol of removal from God and the
light, the prescence of evil. The ever present darkness represents some undercurrent of evil that runs
throughout the story.
Cats are also an important symbol. The first sign we get of any cats is the sound of their painful
yowling . Later Felipe sees some of them being burned alive. Some of the things cats can represent are
independence and self sufficiency. Their destruction leads one to believe that Felipe s independence is
being replaced by dependence and his self sufficiency is being replaced by reliance on Aura.

the unsuspecting to ruin. 2 The prescence of rats not only hint at inappropriate activities inside of the
house, but also at the prescence of witches, something I am quite sure Consuelo is.

Narcissism In Romantic Relationships
Introduction
Most people envision someone in particular when hearing the word narcissist , yet not as many people
would think of themselves. When you have a narcissistic personality disorder, you may not want to
think that anything could be wrong because doing so wouldn t fit with your self image of power and
perfection (Mayo Clinic, 20140). Today, narcissism is viewed in a low light, which is why even
narcissists wouldn t openly want to admit they are narcissistic. Narcissism has been studied in
communication research, especially regarding narcissism and relationships. Although narcissism tends
to be looked down upon, studies have shown that there are positives associated with people who
possess this trait, both in their personal lives and in romantic relationships.
The purpose of this literature review is to study what is known about narcissism in relationships, the
bright side of narcissists and how they can contribute to society, and topics for future research. There
has been a vast amount of research conducted on narcissism in relationships, mostly highlighting this
trait being linked to conflict, anger, unrequited love, and infidelity and commitment issues. Some
research underlines positive outcomes associated with narcissism such as motivation to volunteer, and
unquestionable trust in romantic partners. In this literature review I will discuss current research on
this topic. I will first explain the background of narcissism and define the disorder. Next, I will

connected world that we live in today. For example, in the article Ten Centuries Later, a Pope and
Knights Do Battle , the Times discusses the conflict in interests between Pope Francis and the Knights
of Malta that resulted in the Pope demanding the leader s resignation. Other international issues are
spoken about in the article Europe s Overlapping Crises , which discusses some of the biggest
problems that Europe faces as a whole, such as the results of Brexit, economic relief in Greece, and
the spread of America s new sense of nationalism to other countries. These are big, doting questions
that will affect Europe today and in the future. On a lighter note, the article Committed is a celebration

The Epic Of Gilgamesh By Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh portrays Enkidu s mortality as a step to portraying his purpose of life. was his
hubris to the continuation of his life in the Netherworld. Out of clay, Aruru created not a man, but a
being that matched the strength and resilience of the King of Uruk, Gilgamesh (George 2003: 5). His
principle of life, to ultimately change the ways of the tyrannical king, which was achieved easily
through a test of strength (George 2003: 10). Simply, They kissed each other and formed a friendship.
(George 2003: 17) before joining strength to defeat the ogre Humbaba. For the test against the
protector of the Cedar Forest, Enkidu proves the power of betrayal by helping Gilgamesh, his
metaphorical brother, kill his old friend Humbaba to assist in the welfare of Uruk (Al rawi/George).
Large planks of cedar were sailed back leagues to Uruk with the head of Humbaba on them,
illustrating how vigor can be taken away so effortlessly. Similarly, after Gilgamesh angers the
Goddess Ishtar, the intellect of Enkidu allowed the thousands of citizens and the destroyed land to be
compensated with the murder of the Bull of Heaven (George 2003: 52). However, his purpose in life
to was assist Gilgamesh into becoming a better king, not kill the protectors of the gods, therefore he
was rewarded with mortal emotions and eventually death. In one of his visions, the gods give him a
glimpse of the Netherworld, a blank society of true equality. George depicts the view of it on page 61:

Michael Pollan once said, In America we eat, collectively with a glum urge for food to fill us. We are
ignorant of flavor. We are as a nation taste blind. I agree with his statement; fast foods and frozen
foods are slowly killing people s taste buds. Fast and frozen foods leaves our taste buds blind towards
true flavor of homemade meals. People need to stop eating foods that are not freshly cooked, and they
should start eating foods that are freshly made with rich seasonings. The problem is that people do not
take the time to realize that fast and frozen foods are causing them to become blind to the taste of
cooked traditional homemade dinners. Americans have to wake up, open their eyes, and spend more
time making homemade foods to enjoy the true meaning of flavor. Until then, our nation s taste buds
will be blunted by fast foods and frozen foods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Waving Through A Window Analysis

lyrics by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul. The musical outlines the main character Evan Hansen, a high

soundtrack extend specifically to his deadbeat father whom we never meet, his single mother Heidi,
who spends all her time either at her nursing job or studying to become a paralegal, and his unrequited
affection for a junior named Zoe Murphy which set the stones of him as a person that we see over the
course of the musical. His therapist assigns him to write letters to himself about how today is going to

actually believe any amazing days are coming his way, so what he writes instead is a cry for help from
a desperate kid who s lost all hope of ever feeling part of the world that swirls around him. The events
leading up to the song has Evan chatting with his family friend, the closest thing he has to an actual

Negative Effects Of Technology On Adolescents
Effects of Technology on Adolescents In America today technology is always advancing. Technology
has made many positive impacts on adolescents such as online schooling, the ability to meet new
people, the opportunity to express and give their opinions, the ability to express themselves, and also
the resources to keep in contact with friends and family. Although there are many positives to
technology, there are also negatives such as distractions, technical difficulties, cyberbullying, online
hackers, and availability of resources. A study conducted by Pew Research Center collected data that
92 percent of teens reported going online daily (Lenhart). This proves that a majority of adolescents
are using technology in their everyday lives. Technology has allowed students to use the internet to

for the phenotype of having the shaven bristles.

These numbers exhibit a 3:1 ratio of normal phenotype flies to affected phenotype flies.
The expected number of wild type flies in the F2 generation is 734.25 and the expected number of
shaven bristle flies in the F2 generation is 244.75. This, again, exhibits a 3:1 ratio of normal
phenotype to affected phenotype.
The expected and observed values were all computed on the FlyLab software.
The degree of freedom in this experiment was 3. The chi square value that was calculated was 1.4481.
The p value was 0.6943.
These values were all computed on the FlyLab software.
Since the p value of 0.6943 is greater than 0.05, the data is said to be statistically significant. This
means the null hypothesis is not rejected and the observed values meet the expected values.

Senate Vs House Of Representatives
The largest compromise in the U.S. Constitution is known as the Great Compromise. This was a
compromise between two completely different plans on how the U.S. Legislature should be laid out.
The framers of the constitution decided on a two chambered Legislature. Each chamber has many
different requirements, structures, responsibilities, and powers. Because of these differences, the
Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives is known as the lower house.
The Legislature of the United States government is bicameral; this means that it is a governmental
body with two houses or chambers (Dictionary.com). These two chambers are known as the Senate
and the House of Representatives. The formation of these two chambers was ... Show more content on

These differences are why the Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives
is called the lower house. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate
must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least
twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house
because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The
structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the
Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member
of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six
years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change
legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in
under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can
do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers
also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The
House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . The Senate holds the
trials of impeachment and acts as judge and jury (United States Senate). The Senate acts as the upper
house because the House only brings issues involving impeachment to the attention of the Senate. It is
the Senate who actually can impeach officials. The Senate also has

OVERVIEW
In 1998, more than 13 million children (19 percent of all children) under age eighteen lived in families
with incomes below the official poverty threshold. Although children age eighteen and under represent
26 percent of the United States population, they comprise nearly 40 percent of the poverty population.
Despite a steady decrease from 1993 (23%) to 1999 (17%) in the rate of children in poverty, the
United States still ranks highest in childhood poverty among all industrialized nations.
In the United States, income poverty is defined by the poverty threshold, developed in 1959 and based
on expected food expenditures (thrifty food basket) for families of varying sizes. Each year the
threshold is adjusted for the Consumer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, longitudinal designs allow for an assessment of how the timing (early vs. late) and duration
(transient vs. persistent) of poverty may differentially affect children s outcomes. When possible, this
discussion presents finding from studies that used standardized tests of school readiness, achievement,
and cognitive ability, and controlled for key family and child characteristics, in its review of the
impact of poverty on children s educational outcomes.
Early childhood. During the 1990s, the nation was inundated with reports on the importance of the
early years on children s brain development and later cognitive achievement. While some of the
reports may have overstated the issue and understated the importance of a child s later years on
development, evidence suggests that the early years may be a critical period of development in which
family poverty has particularly strong effects on young children. As seen in Table 1, poverty occurring
early in a child s life (age two to four) is associated with large effects on indices of child school
readiness and cognitive outcomes.
Judith Smith and colleagues (1997), using data from two national datasets, showed that family poverty
was significantly associated with lower scores on several measures of child cognitive and school
readiness outcomes for children age three to four years, even after controlling for the effect of mother
s education,

Cordelia As A Christ-Like Figure In Ian Hunter s King Lear
Cordelia as a Christ like figure is understandable based on the answer she gives her father in response
to his question of love. Does she love him as her sisters do? Goneril and Regan give unabashedly
extravagant answers that contain nothing more than empty flattery and meaningless words of love.
However, Cordelia is the only daughter who gives an honest answer to his question. In the play King
Lear, Cordelia responds, Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave/ My heart into my mouth. I love your
majesty/ According to my bond; no more, no less (I.i.90 92). Cordelia accepts the king as her father
and her sovereign, and she loves him accordingly, but he is not a God like figure to her. Honesty, in
this instance, is more important to King Lear s youngest daughter, rather than ego stroking. When she
answers that she cannot heave her heart into her mouth, she understands that she will not baste him in
meaningless flattery just to gain his wealth. This is the moment in the play that Cordelia s virtue and
love are revealed, setting into motion the idea that she is a Christ like figure. Ian Hunter, author of the
Christian article Lear, Cordelia, the Cross presumes the play is more than just an allegory to parts of
the Bible. He compares this play to John Milton s Paradise Lost. Hunter states that the conversation
between Lear and Kent in which Kent is banished reveals another key element to the play. He states,

Comparing Elizabeth Stanton’s Declaration of Sentiments...
Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Declaration of Sentiments and The Women s Bible
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most renowned women to lead campaigns for women s rights.
Her efforts were focused on opportunities for women, for married women s property rights, the right
to divorce, and the right to custody of children; her most radical demand was for women s right to
vote (Davidson and Wagner Martin 845). In general Stanton wished to instill independence and self
reliance in all women. Stanton was an inspiring orator of speeches including the Declaration of
Sentiments as well as the book The Women s Bible. Upon analysis of her speeches and other works, as
well as gaining knowledge of her background, one is able to assume that ... Show more content on

Much of her knowledge was gained by time spent in her fatherâs office reading law books and
listening to his conversations with clients. Stanton refused to allow societyâs constraints to limit her
ability to excel as mush or more than a young man does. In taking on this conviction, she later in life
attempted to have changes made to allow women to attend the same schools (colleges) that men
attended.
In the experiences Stanton witnessed between clients and Mr. Cady, one particular incident farther
provoked Stanton to seek rights for women. In this certain case an ex servant of the family was
attempting to regain property that she had purchased before her marriage. Apparently her deceased
husband had will the property to his son and the woman was left with nothing. Mr. Cady informed the
lady that even though she had purchased the property before wedding, that according to the laws
concerning wedlock, all property, earnings, and children were relinquished to the husband. Elizabeth
could not believe that the laws were so unjust and that there was nothing her father could do to help
the woman regain what was rightfully hers. Being a small child at the time, Stanton told the client that
she would search through every law book and cut out any laws that

Military Cabbage So Up Diet Research Papers
The cabbage soup diet is a fad diet done to aid in weight loss. It is said that a person can lose up to 10
pounds in one week. The origins of the diet are unknown, and it first gained popularity as a piece of
faxlore in the 1980s. The cabbage soup diet has many names, usually linking the diet to a mainstream
institution, including the Sacred Heart Diet , Military Cabbage Soup , TJ Miracle Soup Diet , and
Russian Peasant Diet . According to the American Dietetic Association s timeline of fad diets, the
cabbage soup diet originated around 1950, but it may date back even earlier. There is a recipe for
Doughboy Cabbage Soup dating back to World War I (1914 1918), when American soldiers fighting in
France had few other vegetables available and eating cabbage offered protection against scurvy, a
deficiency disease caused by inadequate vitamin C in the diet. The name Military Cabbage Soup Diet
is likely derived from the World War I soup recipe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s...
Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, the nature
of Gregor Samsa s reality changes insignificantly in spite of his drastic physical changes. Gregor s life
before the metamorphosis was limited to working and caring for his family. As a traveling salesman,
Gregor worked long, hard hours that left little time to experience life. He reflects on his life
acknowledging the plague of traveling: the anxieties of changing trains, the irregular, inferior meals,
the ever changing faces, never to be seen again, people with whom one has no chance to be friendly
(Kafka 13). Gregor, working to pay off his family s debt, has resigned himself to a life full of work.

So concerned with ensuring his parents and sister were taken care of, he forgot his own needs. It was
apparent to everyone that he was no longer thought of as a son or an extension of the family, but
merely as a support system. The tragic fact is that everyone had grown accustomed to it, his family as
much as himself; they took the money gratefully, he gave it willingly but the act was accompanied by
no remarkable effusiveness (Kafka 48). It appears that in the course of his hectic work schedule, he
overlooks that in return for dedication to his family, he remains unloved and unappreciated. Yet
Gregor still believed he had to provide his family with a pleasant, contented, secure life (Emrich 149),
regardless of how they treated him. Gregor s existence before the metamorphosis was much like after
it; limited to work and family, he went unnoticed by both. After changing into a cockroach one night,
Gregor is forced to live a life of isolation with a family who is appalled by him. He is placed in a dark
bedroom, in the jumble of discarded furniture and filth a monstrous vermin, a grotesque, hidden part
of the family (Eggenschwiler 211). Shock and terror, resulting in Gregor being locked away, marked
his family s reaction to his metamorphosis. His sister is the only one that, while frightened, would tend
to Gregor s room and meals. She even took the responsibility so far as to get angry with anyone who

American Literature 11
14 September 2015
A quote from Anatole Broyard, It is one of the paradoxes of American Literature that our writers are
forever looking back with love and nostalgia at the lives they couldn t wait to leave. People reminisce
of some of the worst moments in American history with a dampening eye, glossing over all the grit.
Out of the populus, the ones who actively present Broyard s quote as fact are content creators. This
trope appears many times in Literature and even other forms of entertainment such as movies,
television shows, and certain video games. Three examples of Broyard s statement show up in the
works: The Perfect Storm, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Glass ... Show more content

pushed on into the nor easter turned hurricane and were never heard from again. We looked back at
these men and their time with lightheartedness, like a quick glimpse of a photo, not really thinking
about them or the period itself.
Jumping to the year 1937 at the end of the Great Depression, we witness the tale of a single mother,
Amanda her son, Tom, and daughter, Laura. A mother who s trying to push her daughter into marriage
and shoving her son to work while also trying to relive her glory days, a rinse repeat story in those
days. You were either male and slaved in factories for pay like Tom or female and raised to be a
housewife to marry a wealthy man. Tom s an aspiring poet who works in a warehouse while his sister
isolates herself because of her shyness and bad leg, and their mother is woman looking for wealth
whether her or her daughter acquires it. Amanda sends her son out to find a man for Laura and he
brings back Jim O Connor. Lo and behold, Jim apparently had been Laura s high school crush. A
dinner ensues with the family, ending with an awkward exchange between Jim and Laura where they
kiss and it is revealed that Jim has a fiancée. Jim leaves and Amada blames Tom, who eventually loses
his job and skips town on them. Another great time period where life for most wasn t well. Yet authors

Archetypes In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth is a story about of a young girl named Ofilia, goes on a hero s journey to return to the
underworld to be with her father. In the The Esoteric Interpretation of Pan s Labyrinth the writer
points out that there is mystical and archetypal symbolism found throughout the movie. In the the
esoteric interpitation of pan s labyrinth the writer does a great job of pointing out many of the
architypes in the movie, but leaves out a few that I think are in the movie. The essay does a good job
of creating a summary of the movie, and then they talk about different types of architypes in the
movie. The first architype is when ofelia places the the missing eye back in t0 the monument of the
faun. This shows that Ofilia has an ability to see or believe in fairy tales, and she notices that adults do
not have the ability to see things that cannot be physically seen. When Ofilia placed the eye into the

The Impact Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve
cells in the brain and spinal cord (Plowman, 2015, p.1151). The motor neurons reach from the brain to
the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles in the body. When ALS is in a degenerate
stage, this causes paralyzation and loss of muscle control, which can lead to one s death. The ALS
Association is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to fighting Lou Gehrig s disease by

Social media was very effective in this campaign because the audience was able to participate in a
more active stance and allow their video postings to reach not only their followers but others as well.
Social media is very inclusive of all age groups and various types of people and is more influential
than a commercial on a given channel that may or may not reach the same wide audience. Social
media encourages having a conversation which is a 2 way communication process between the
audience and the organization. The ALS Association was able to communicate with their audience
using social media and the videos posted by their audience helped their cause in a positive way. Social
media also allowed the organization to keep track of what is going on with their audience in response
to their campaign. According to Sutton Paulson, theory of planned behavior (TPB), there are three
major determinants that permit the explanation and prediction of most human social behavior
attitudes, perceived norms, and perceptions of behavioral control (2016, p.411). With social media,
theory of planned behavior comes into play because majority of the participants perceived social
media, and making their own videos, as a social norm that was deemed socially acceptable during the
campaign. Participants had a positive experience while making their social media video, which

Dr. Tyson s new book, the publication is a space nonfiction of Pluto s fall from planethood. Dr. Tyson wrote this book to explore the reasons why Pluto was demoted from the status of being a planet and all of the history behind the discovery. Also, due to his vast interest in Astronomy, Dr.Tyson was influenced to write The Pluto Files. This quote from page 18 in The Pluto Files, explained how America s favourite food, pizza, was used as a mnemonic which enabled students to learn about the Solar System in sequence. However, with technological and scientific advancements Pluto faced serious issues in the years ahead. Pluto by far was the least massive planet, with less than 5 percent of the mass of Mercury, the solar system s next smallest planet. The orbit of Pluto is very flat from a perfect circle. In fact, Pluto spends 20 years of its 248 year orbit closer to Neptune than to the Sun. Pluto s orbit is not only oblong, it tips more than 17 degrees from the plane of the solar system, a full of 10 degrees more than Mercury s orbit. Pluto s largest moon Charon was discovered in June 1978 by USNO s James Christy when he spotted a suspicious bump on an elongated shape of Pluto and when further researched and examined, the evidence stated that Pluto had a moon. • 3. Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story, Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space , Staples makes the reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a threat feels. The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private space surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples, Quindlen uses implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public space can be threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the streets can be perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Define Bottom Up And Top Down Reading Strategies Essay 1). Define bottom up and top down reading strategies. Be sure to give three examples of each strategy. Top down is the process of understanding the whole picture. This means that the reader does not actually read the text word for word, but instead he uses his prior knowledge to fill up the gaps. The reader experience and his language cognitive abilities allow him to understand the the sentence by looking at keywords that would provide him with enough information based on his prior knowledge to decode the whole sentence. this technique requires some sort of appropriate proficiency level to be efficient which can be best applied for intermediate and advanced students. Bottom up is when the reader tries to understand the small details starting by the smallest to the largest meaningful part of the language starting by letters, clauses, sentences, and then phrases. After that, the reader will connect these details and apply it to the text. this technique usually used with beginner learners. Examples for top down: ● Previewing: asking students about the title or let them read couples of sentences and then ask them what will happen next. ● Vocabulary mapping: students write all the vocabularies they know about the topic. which can activate their prior knowledge. ● Group discussion: students group up to discuss what they have read and what is their reflections. for example, after finishing a chapter from a story. Example for Bottom up: ● Read aloud: asking students to read aloud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film follows young rebellious lovers, Sailor and Luna who seek to run away from the craziness of their worlds to live a fantasy but end up finding the violent reality of America. Lula s mom, Marietta causes them to face obstacles within their relationship by trying to get Sailor killed twice. These young lovers decide to run from their problems and go on a road trip to California, on their way they make stops in New Orleans and Texas. Throughout the film there are concepts and terms of the comic spirit that are showcased throughout the film such as parody, bragger male archetype, euphemisms, contamination, disguise, parabasis, and inversion. The films main character Sailor, is a parody of Elvis. Sailor is a hyper masculine character, with a manic energy, and vocal mannerisms like Elvis Presley. The parody of Elvis not only is shown through Sailors vocal mannerism but also in the film we see examples of parabasis where Sailor stops the band playing and begins to sing Love Me by Elvis to Lula. During this scene, while Sailor is singing we hear girls screaming in admiration as if Elvis was actually the one singing. The girls that surround Sailor while he singing, look ... Some of them consider that it is positive, and this kind of disclosure does not affect the social work or clinical practice. The main character of the book, Frederic Henry experiences many of the same situations that Hemingway experienced. Some of these experiences are exactly the same, while some are less similar, and some events have a completely different outcome. A Farewell to Arms is the book of Frederic Henry, an American driving an ambulance for the Italian Army during World War I. Another difference is that in A Farewell to Arms, Catherine and her child died while she was giving birth, this was not the case with Agnes, who left Henry for another Italian Army officer. These slight changes allowed Hemingway, an extremely private man, to try and prove to the public that it was not himself and his own experiences which he was writing about. There is great power in being an author; you can make things happen which do not necessarily occur in real life. Hemingway felt throughout his life, powerless, and so to escape this, he created alternative lives by writing stories. The fist symbol I would mention is darkness. As I stated earlier, it is primarily a symbol of removal from God and the light, the prescence of evil. The ever present darkness represents some undercurrent of evil that runs throughout the story. Cats are also an important symbol. The first sign we get of any cats is the sound of their painful yowling . Later Felipe sees some of them being burned alive. Some of the things cats can represent are independence and self sufficiency. Their destruction leads one to believe that Felipe s independence is being replaced by dependence and his self sufficiency is being replaced by reliance on Aura. When you have a narcissistic personality disorder, you may not want to think that anything could be wrong because doing so wouldn t fit with your self image of power and perfection (Mayo Clinic, 20140). Today, narcissism is viewed in a low light, which is why even narcissists wouldn t openly want to admit they are narcissistic. Narcissism has been studied in communication research, especially regarding narcissism and relationships. People need to stop eating foods that are not freshly cooked, and they should start eating foods that are freshly made with rich seasonings. The problem is that people do not take the time to realize that fast and frozen foods are causing them to become blind to the taste of cooked traditional homemade dinners. Technology has made many positive impacts on adolescents such as online schooling, the ability to meet new people, the opportunity to express and give their opinions, the ability to express themselves, and also the resources to keep in contact with friends and family. Although there are many positives to technology, there are also negatives such as distractions, technical difficulties, cyberbullying, online hackers, and availability of resources. A study conducted by Pew Research Center collected data that 92 percent of teens reported going online daily (Lenhart). This proves that a majority of adolescents are using technology in their everyday lives. Technology has allowed students to use the internet to advance in their school work. The Internet is a primary research tool for teens. Census data indicates that 85 percent of older teens 14 17 and 77 percent of tweens 10 13 go online to do schoolwork. Among those teens who are online, 94 percent use the Internet for school research and 34 percent have downloaded a study aid (The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation). The hypothesis for this experiment is that the mode of inheritance for the shaven bristle allele in flies is autosomal recessive in both male and female flies. The data generated with the Flylab software seemed to confirm the hypothesized mode of inheritance for the phenotype of having the shaven bristles. This, again, exhibits a 3:1 ratio of normal phenotype to affected phenotype. The expected and observed values were all computed on the FlyLab software. The degree of freedom in this experiment was 3. The chi square value that was calculated was 1.4481. The p value was 0.6943. These values were all computed on the FlyLab software. • 22. Senate Vs House Of Representatives The largest compromise in the U.S. Constitution is known as the Great Compromise. This was a compromise between two completely different plans on how the U.S. Legislature should be laid out. The framers of the constitution decided on a two chambered Legislature. Each chamber has many different requirements, structures, responsibilities, and powers. Because of these differences, the Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives is known as the lower house. These differences are why the Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives is called the lower house. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . The Senate holds the trials of impeachment and acts as judge and jury (United States Senate). The Senate acts as the upper house because the House only brings issues involving impeachment to the attention of the Senate. It is the Senate who actually can impeach officials. Early childhood. During the 1990s, the nation was inundated with reports on the importance of the early years on children s brain development and later cognitive achievement. While some of the reports may have overstated the issue and understated the importance of a child s later years on development, evidence suggests that the early years may be a critical period of development in which family poverty has particularly strong effects on young children. As seen in Table 1, poverty occurring early in a child s life (age two to four) is associated with large effects on indices of child school readiness and cognitive outcomes. Judith Smith and colleagues (1997), using data from two national datasets, showed that family poverty was significantly associated with lower scores on several measures of child cognitive and school readiness outcomes for children age three to four years, even after controlling for the effect of mother s education, ... • 24. Cordelia As A Christ-Like Figure In Ian Hunter s King Lear Cordelia as a Christ like figure is understandable based on the answer she gives her father in response to his question of love. Does she love him as her sisters do? Goneril and Regan give unabashedly extravagant answers that contain nothing more than empty flattery and meaningless words of love. However, Cordelia is the only daughter who gives an honest answer to his question. In the play King Lear, Cordelia responds, Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave/ My heart into my mouth. I love your majesty/ According to my bond; no more, no less (I.i.90 92). Cordelia accepts the king as her father and her sovereign, and she loves him accordingly, but he is not a God like figure to her. Honesty, in this instance, is more important to King Lear s youngest daughter, rather than ego stroking. When she answers that she cannot heave her heart into her mouth, she understands that she will not baste him in meaningless flattery just to gain his wealth. This is the moment in the play that Cordelia s virtue and love are revealed, setting into motion the idea that she is a Christ like figure. Ian Hunter, author of the Christian article Lear, Cordelia, the Cross presumes the play is more than just an allegory to parts of the Bible. He compares this play to John Milton s Paradise Lost. Hunter states that the conversation between Lear and Kent in which Kent is banished reveals another key element to the play.
