The Right To Freedom Of Speech
Imagine yourself as an Oxford University student in the twentieth century, being at one of the most
prestigious and highly recognized research intuitions in the world. This puts enormous pressure on the
university itself to uphold a positive image. Students at Oxford University are being silenced on issues
regarding politics, the war on terror, gender equality, and many other social issues around the world.
What if students want to express their opinions in a public manner? They should be aloud to do so
without the worry of having any negative repercussions from the media or the University itself.
Platforming is restricting the free speech of the students as well as their basic rights and freedoms. I
believe students should not have a platform to speak because arguments could be misrepresented from
the platform it self, as well no platforming fails to give students their right to free speech. The issue at
hand is that students should be allowed to speak with little or no platform. The citizens of the United
Kingdom have the right to freedom of speech (provided they do not incite violence, or sexually harass
people). In the debate, on the right side of the argument who believe that platforming is a legitimate
tool have expressed vigorously that platforming is a positive idea. They believe that No platforming
has no mutual ground for people to debate freely. This can help keep debates and speeches to the point
and focused directly on the issue at hand. The right side of the

White Collar vs Blue Collar
Imagine there is a society, and in this society there are only two households, one of them is a white
collar family, the other is a blue collar or working class family. To keep it simple, white collar workers
are highly skilled and usually work in an office setting, while blue collar workers perform more labor
based jobs and get their hands dirty. Now you may ask, what do these two groups have to do with each
other? Well, their differences are what bring them together, and neither group would be able to operate
without the other. Personally, I grew up and still live in a white collar family and this alone has shaped
my household environment. I would also imagine growing up in the other class would have an impact
on your household environment as well. Although these two households are quite different from each
other, they still impact one another and society today wouldn t be the same without either of them. If
someone were to talk about a home , there could be a number of things that could come to mind.
When I personally think of home I think of a place of peace and acceptance that you share with the
ones you love. No matter what your definition of home is, everyone grows up in a different home
environment. I first lived in Farmington, Minnesota but eventually moved to Prescott, Wisconsin in
fourth grade. One of the things that I think has effected my very own home environment is the fact
that my dad has a white collar job. My dad is a certified public accountant and

Campus Sexual Assault And Rape
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I would like to send my appreciation and gratitude to David La Rooy, who has supported my journey
in making this dissertation possible to do. I would like to give thanks to all the students who have
participated in this dissertation.
ABSTRACT
The aim of this dissertation is to observe whether female or male students have a similar or different
perspective of the meaning of consent in a sexual context; specifically, on the subject of campus
sexual assault.
INTRODUCTION
In the United States (U.S.), sexual assault on campuses remains to make national headlines, and now
this problem is increasing and occurring in the United Kingdom (U.K.). The term sexual assault varies
in definition from state to state in the U.S. and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who are closest to the victims should help the victim on their path of recovery. Although, the
supports from those closest to the victims may play a positive role in the recovery process; however,
some people may feel to withdraw or partly blame the victim for getting raped or sexually assaulted
(Vito, Maahs and Holmes, 2006: p. 281).
EXPLAINING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
As reported by, feminist criminologists, their perspective of rape and sexual assault differ from liberal
and radical feminists. Liberal feminists viewpoint in regards of rape as a gender neutral assault on a
persons autonomy and mainly focusing on the harm that rape can do to an individual. In contrast,
radical feminists describe rape as a subject to be recognised and understood as a major pillar of
patriarchy; a social system in which men claim the positions of dominance and control of the central
norms and values that are linked with masculinity (Johnson, 2005: p.

New Media Bias
Bias in New Media
I. Introduction
New media is a general term used to describe all forms of media that exists in the internet. New media
generally refers to social media sites but also refers to blogs, forums, online message boards, and
video and image sharing sites (Anderson 2013; Van Dijck, 2013). Like with conventional mass media,
bias exist in new media platforms. The key difference is that while bias in mainstream media such as
newspapers and network news are centered on how these sources communicate news and current
events, bias in new media is centered on the users themselves as they choose what type of news and
information they read and share in new media sites (Kietzmann, Hermkens, McCarthy and Silvestre
2011). This is a defining characteristic of new media wherein the users are the ... Show more content

Giving users the capability to choose and select what appears on their media pages encourages bias by
allowing the formation of fragmented social groups that have polarized opinions on specific issues and
current events (Bakshy, Messing, and Adamic 2015). In response to these tendencies, news reporting
agencies have learned to adapt and launch digital forms of mainstream media to propagate their news
targeted at social media outlets, giving them the freedom to spread the agenda they want to
communicate, knowing that their target audience can easily find and share them using social media
(Calais Guerra, et.al 2011) further propagating bias news reporting.
The following is a discussion centered on further exploring bias in new media including that factors
that encourages bias news sharing in new media cites, how new media platforms encourage having
biased perspective when it comes to news and information and access, and the impact of new media
usage in traditional news media outlets. Specific cases will be used to demonstrate the impact of new
media in biased news reporting and a discussion on the implication of this continued

Captain America Civil War
Earlier this year, Captain America: Civil War stormed into theaters wowing audiences with its
spectacular narrative and incredible splash page sequence that no one could stop talking about. Now,
Disney and Marvel are letting fans bring that home, as the film is now available on Blu ray, DVD, and
Digital HD. Here are the list of bonus features with a review below. Making of Captain America: Civil

Since he and Wanda got their powers from the same source, it make sense that they have such a close
relationship as they do in the comics. As we get to The Hunter, we learn about The Black Panther, who
comes in with his own agenda. Chadwick Boseman talks about what it was like to get the part and the
kind of training he went through to bring the Wakandan prince to life. The Rookie is, of course, all
about Spider Man. Here we learn why they start him off as the hero we know and love, and forego
some familiar story elements like the murdering of Uncle Ben or the spider bite that gives Peter his
powers. Not only does the chapter focus on Spider Man, but also how Tom Holland s age plays a
factor in the movie, as well as the future of the MCU. The Battle covers the film s epic airport fight
scene. The cast and crew describe their experience of what it was like to shoot that scene. The
Saboteur addresses Zemo s manipulation of the characters. Aftermath details the repercussions of
Bucky s assassination of Tony Stark s parents, and how the writers used that to drive Iron Man and

The Matrix By The Wachowski Brothers
Just what is The Matrix? This is the question that the extremely entertaining and absurdly thought
provoking movie The Matrix, by The Wachowski Brothers, hopes to answer. How can we know that
WE don t live in the Matrix? That is the question that the movie hopes that we can answer for
ourselves. The movie opens with the apparent double life of Thomas Anderson. Thomas Anderson
works a normal job as a computer programmer, but spends his free time as a freelance hacker known
by the name of Neo. He is contacted one day by the team of the Nebuchadnezzar, a ship in the real
world full of a crew that has been pulled from the Matrix. After following their instructions and being

Not the movie the Matrix, but the Matrix in the movie, The Matrix. The Matrix is pulls on the problem
of perception. Humans are grown in fields, harvested, and then their brains are hooked up to a
machine that simulated life while their energy is harvested. The problem is however, when your senses
are being perfectly spoofed and you are in a near perfect simulation of the world you will not know
that you are not living the real life. The movie makes some interesting parallels to the idea of dreams.
We have all had those dreams that seemed very real when they happened, only to wake up the next
day and think about how ridiculous they were. The idea of the Matrix is to be close enough to the real
world that the human mind doesn t catch on. This raises an interesting question though. If the humans
are really grown and harvested and the Matrix is the only thing that they ever know, why did the
Matrix have to simulate the reality that did exist. Would it not be equally possible for the simulated
Matrix to be completely different in physical laws and color spectrum and general makeup from the
world that humans are accustomed too? The Matrix was extremely successful, in my experience, with
illustrating this problem that we have. In the movie, there was someone there to clue the main
character into the fact that he was being deceived, and there was an easy way out the real world was

Essay On Online Gaming Games
There are especially useful if you intend to play together on a multiplayer game or are using
Shareplay.
Last but not least is the PS4 s performance. First, of all, the graphics and FPS. The graphics are
incredible at 1080p and 4k resolution (which describes the dimensions/quality of the graphics)which
makes things look great when playing a game like Destiny where there s a lot to look at. The FPS is
really to, staying between 30 60 FPS the whole time with very little stuttering or lag. The VR headset
also never dips below 60 80 FPS so its users don t get motion sickness. The sounds in games are really
crisp and clean. Their quality is really impressive and they make the games on the PS4 seem much,

Most of the games are family friendly, so this would be the kind of thing that you would buy if you
had small children, or a big family that wants to play together. Next up: features. The Wii U has a
much smaller amount of space than both the Xbox 1 and the PS4 with 8 GB for the basic and 32GB
for the deluxe, just enough for saving games. If you want to expand, you need an external USB
storage. There also isn t nearly as many features that Xbox and PS4 have which really narrows down
the uses of the Wii U other than playing games. The controllers for it are just Wii remotes and the Wii
U gamepad which can be kind of irritating to use at times, but it also acts as it own display for the
game so you don t have to always have to look at the T.V. There is also a new pro controller which
looks very similar to the Xbox 1 controller, only with some buttons moved in different places. Its
design is much more compact than the PS4 The graphics and performance of the console are pretty
good with many games performing at 1080p and at 60fps, but some dip below that. Overall, it s a
pretty good system in terms of performance and mostly good in games, but it really lacks in some key
areas like variety of games, storage, and it also lacks a bit of

The Effects Of Music Programs On Students
The Knowledge of reading music, and playing an instrument has proven to be beneficial to the
learning curb in students including those of little to no background in a literary education to students
in college. However, there are schools in America where music isn t offered. Having a music program
could create improved grades, memory, concentration, and quicken the learning process of literacy,
but it is believed that music isn t for everybody. Many parents and administrators believe that music is
just a waste of time and doesn t help a student academically. It has been stated and shown in media of
all sorts that music doesn t help kids academically and is only a distraction with potentially harmful
effects. For example, in John McDaniel s words on the negative effects of music in school,: Music
programs in school can promote competition and rivalry among peers. In most music programs,
students compete for certain positions and chairs, and they must practice and oust their peers in order
to climb the ranks in the section. This can lead to bad feelings and competitive values among young
children, which can be harmful to their future development.
It is understood why this has been stressed against music in schools. However, it is faulty. Other
beliefs are that it does more harm than good because it affects grades negatively . In the words of John
McDaniel, They claim that students will spend too much time on practicing, trips and performances,
which will affect

Pre Incident Planning:
Good Business Continuity Planning starts with being proactive. That means taking concrete steps to
plan for an incident much before it actually strikes. There is no one single approach that fits for all
types of incidents as no two emergencies are identical. Much of business continuity planning varies
based on the size of the company, company s line of business, and the locations of the company,
customers and suppliers.

. ( Debate.org. N. p., 2017. Web. 16 Dec. 2017.) Many working mothers have faced discrimination
during pregnancy and paternal leave. Discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick discovered
indisputable evidence that discrimination of parents who have children is a widespread issue which
discourages working parents, and women during labor force. ( Half Of Working Mothers Face
Discrimination At Work, Study Finds. ) This report is the most comprehensive subject of workplace
discrimination towards parents. 49% of mothers and 29% of fathers have experienced discrimination

Women In Nathaniel Hawthorne
1.2. Nathaniel Hawthorne and Women
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 1864) is one of the great American short story writers and novelists of the
19th century. He has utilized many themes in his writings, one example of his themes is the portrait of
female and this is considered as revolutionary for his era. Patricia says Hawthorne has created a wide
range of female characters such as strong, independent minded, self confident and others types are
docile, fragile, and submissive. In addition, Charles Swann posited that some characteristics of
Hawthorne s women are strong and weak, charming and rueful, vivid and quiet (2), but there is one

Roy Male says, Hawthorne creates women characters with either a malicious or an evil feature to relay
to the reader a more allegorical meaning. Many would say he targets women without justification,
while a reader may interpret him to be a misogynist. Katharine Gilbert also regards that Hawthorne in
the past been generally accepted as a misogynist, because he depicts negative conceptualization on his
women s image (72). Nina Baym disputes that assumption. She claims the misogynist label toward
Nathaniel Hawthorne is unfair. She further mentions Hawthorne never viewed women as unimportant
people, but rather, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual partners. In the Nathaniel Hawthorne: A
Biography, Arlin Turner demonstrated women often played crucial roles in Hawthorne s development
and they inspired some of the women characters who appear in his fiction

Application Of Cellulases On Juice Recovery
Application of Cellulases on Juice Recovery
Introduction
Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011).
The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are
enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals,
plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry
applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4
linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes:
endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. Exoglucanases act on the reducing or non
reducing ends of cellulose (Zhang, 2013). Endoglucanases cut the nonreducing ends of cellulose or the
beta 1,4 bonds. Endoglucanases are also produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
(Zhang,2013). Lastly, beta glucosidases are produced by archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
and are known for degrading cellobiose (Zhang, 2013). All three forms of cellulases are produced
from animals, bacteria, and plants. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss mainly the cellulase
enzyme and its effect on the juice industry in addition to other applications of cellulase, and how
cellulase behaves in combination with other enzymes such as pectinase and xylanase.

The Role Of Conspiracies In The Secret Agent
Despite a lack of paranoia, The Secret Agent is a distinct example of conspiracy fiction. It exceeds the
criteria necessary in addressing the mediation of the media, the conspiracies within conspiracies
throughout the novel, and the sundering of the public sphere necessary for the title of conspiracy
fiction. Ultimately, even the anarchist group fuelling the conspiracies is not safe from its own inner
conspiracy. The novel distinctly examines how conspiracies can form within groups. Joseph Conrad
achieves this in how the anarchists employ stealthy techniques and deception even amongst
themselves. They conceal their motives; deliver anarchist pamphlets to incite the perceived
proletariats, and revel in the unpredictability that anarchy brings. The motives fuelling their actions are
concealed from one another. Moreover, even their crowning achievement in the destruction of the
Greenwich observatory, has unique layers of meaning amongst the group. To the Professor, the
meandering destruction sates his need for chaos and the validation of his nihilism. From Vladimir s
perspective, he wields this terrorist act as a method to subvert Britain s government and promote a
totalitarian order. His motives towards anarchy actually serve to dismantle it. In destroying the
observatory, he seeks not to promote the destruction of government, but strengthen it. As an Agent

The Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
from 1979 to 2005
Introduction
Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is
considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A
legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible,
effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules
provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in
established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or
influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules
and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of
legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy
for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of
legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant
contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane
Katrina.

Impact Of The Silk Road Indian Ocean Trade And Trans...
The Silk Road, Indian Ocean Trade and Trans Saharan Trade Networks were all routes/networks of
trade throughout the eastern hemisphere. People would travel these routes so that they could trade for
things that they wanted from other areas. Here, people were able to trade for commodities and raw
materials, but also be able to learn about new things such as religion and education. Culture and
economy allowed for trade to expand in the Silk Road, Indian Ocean and Trans Saharan Trade
Networks and it brought people from different lands together, expanded their knowledge, and affected
their governments through its views. First, the economy brought Eurasian civilizations together
through the trading routes. When traveling through the Middle East, Africa and Asia, Moroccan
explorer Ibn Battuta states that Some of the Chinese own large numbers of ships that they send to
foreign countries. There are no people in the world wealthier than the Chinese. (Ibn Battuta, and H. A.
R. Gibbs.). China was a very wealthy civilization in this time and their trade with other lands allowed
them to form relations with the lands that they traded with. Other countries would want to trade with
China due to its known wealth. In Traveling Salesmen, Traveling Taxmen , Kenneth Pomeranz and
Steven Topik describe the Indian Ocean trade and state that since India was probably the world s
largest exporter from 1500 1700, the horse trade was a crucial link in world trade. (Kenneth Pomeranz
and Steven Topik). Most of the horses being traded were coming from India, which means that many
merchants wanted to go to India so that they could get valuable horses. At this time, horses were very
valuable because it was a way of transportation, so some people wanted to buy them. This brought
people together by bringing them to one area to exchange commodities and it allowed access for a
way of transportation to be able to trade in the future. The Department and the king of Ancient Ghana
states that In the eighth and ninth centuries, Arab merchants operating in southern Moroccan towns
such as Sijilmasa bought gold from the Berbers, and financed more caravans. ( Arts of Africa,
Oceania, and the Americas. ). These people were traveling to different

Chemiluminol Synthesis Lab Report
Abstract During the experiment, there were two tasks performed; the synthesization of luminol and the
display of chemiluminescence. The starting material used was 5 nitro 2,3 dihydrophthalazine 1,4
dione, and after the addition of NaOH, sodium hydrosulfite, acetic acid and water, we were left with
the product of crude luminol.1 Then, the crude luminol was dissolved into a stock solution that
contained NaOH.1 That stock solution A was then diluted with water, which turned it into solution A.1
That solution was then combined with solution B, a mixture made from potassium ferricyanide and
hydrogen peroxide then diluted with water, which allowed us to observe the blue light emission that
was chemiluminescence.1

Gulf Coast Charter School Case Study
Gulf Coast Charter School would be the best middle school option because there are weekly field
activities, technology education programs, and clubs and extracurricular activities. Gulf Coast will
allow students to learn more about things that already interest them and help them to realize what they
might want to be involved in during high school. One reason Gulf Coast is the best option is because it
has weekly field activities. One activity the school offers is kayaking. I know I would enjoy kayaking
because I was able to go kayaking and snorkeling at summer camp. Snorkeling was fun because of the
stingrays and other fish. This school will provide similar opportunities for students to interact with a
variety of animals. Besides

Business Intelligence And Its History
1 Summary
All businesses, regardless of their size, have to deal with some form of raw data that can reveal
insightful inferences if properly processed into meaningful information. However, data processing is a
tough row to hoe for big and medium sized enterprises that are exposed to large volumes of data. So,
these enterprises turn to business analysts for help.
Business analysts engage in Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives to derive useful information out of
of raw data. One popular BI technique is data mining. This research paper overviews Business
Intelligence and its history, followed by an in depth discussion on data mining, including its functional
framework, its popular models, end users, issues and trends. The paper also ... Show more content on

In late eighties, industry expert Howard Dresner suggested Business Intelligence as a holistic concept.
According to him, business intelligence was a method that assisted in fact based decision making.
Since then, business intelligence has come a long way, evolving into a full blown field of study.
Panian, Z. (2012) identifies six stages in the evolution of business intelligence to its current state.
Business intelligence first got introduced to the business world through Data Mining . Initially, data
mining was a concept alien to the business world. But in late eighties, the business community started
to find great utility in its practice. Businesses discovered that the data mining process could be
employed to predict solutions to complex business problems.
Following the simpler data mining techniques, the more complex On Line Analytical Processing
(OLAP) techniques marked the second phase in the evolution of business intelligence. OLAP
applications helped in complicated analysis of data stored in big data warehouses. These analytical
applications broke down data into various dimensions to arrive at more factual results than data
mining.
Then came the third evolutionary stage of Balanced Scorecards (BSC) that elevated business
intelligence to another level. Moving beyond decision making, Business Scorecards helped businesses
in performance tracking. Particularly, BSCs helped the top management to analyze whether their

Television And The Future Of Television Essay
What do we really mean by television? The way we watch television has drastically changed over the
last fifteen years due to new technologies such as digital television and services providing on demand
access. These drastic changes have had a huge effect on viewers and have allowed online streaming
platforms to dominate and revolutionize the way the audience consumes (Aliloupour) media,
ultimately allowing the viewer to be in total control of how, when and where they want their content.
The idea of only being able to watch television on a television set is now a thing of the past. Due to
technology, the audience now has a vast variety of options on how they can access content. By using
scholarly articles, research in new media and Internet sites I will be analyzing current television and
where the future of television will be heading.
The way the audience watches television has drastically changed since the birth of television. The
viewer is changing the rules (Deign) of how we consume media and is no longer restricted to when
they can access content. The company Netflix s is a great example of this. Netflix is currently the
dominant company in the on demand media industry and isn t only changing the way that we watch
television, but it s also revolutionizing the way that it is made (Page). Compared to old methods of
television networks where the viewer is required to tune in weekly at a designated time for a television
show, Netflix s has allowed the viewer to watch

Realism In America
Coping in America with Realism
Through the years 1860 to 1900, the Realism literary movement made its way to America. This
movement was a way to entertain the American people from the harsh circumstances they were facing.
Realism became a movement that helped the American people cope with their issues by using real life
circumstances they could relate to.
Realism began in Europe in the 1840s and did not make its way to America until after the Civil War.
American Realism and European Realism shared common goals, such as focusing on the common
person and contradicting society s beliefs, but American Realism branched off with ideas of its own
(Fluck). William Dean Howells is credited for starting the Realism trend in America. He was the

This novel focused on unfortunate characters who were trying to tolerate society s expectations while
finding themselves in the world (James). The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn took place in Missouri,
where many farmers owned slaves to cultivate their crops. Farmers from the lower South made deals
with those of the upper South in hopes to buy their slaves. Many of the slave owners in the upper
South could not resist the offers that were made (Moss). Huckleberry Finn was one of the main
characters in the novel. Huck ran away from his intoxicated, unloving father by faking his own death.
On his journey, Huck met Miss Watson s slave named Jim, who was escaping in fear of being sold to
the deep South. In the novel, realism is displayed by Huck s actions and his colloquialisms. Twain
uses the derogatory term, nigger , often in his writing. This word referred to colored people at the time
period because many white people were racist towards people of color. The white people believed
colored people should not have the same rights as they do. When Huck uses the term nigger , he does
not mean any harm. Being from the South, he picked up the habit of using this word from the
influences around him; this adds to the realistic effect of the time period. Also, Huck and Jim bonded
with each other and created a friendship and, throughout the novel, Jim became the father figure that
Huck never had. This created problems

Tales of Despereaux
SOME SPOILERS DOES NOT RUIN WHOLE BOOK ENDING BUT MAY RUIN SOME PARTS.
Theme:
The theme to the Tales of Despereaux is to be different even when it s not what people want. I think it

Also all of those things had to do with the princess. Mig was passionate about being one, Despereaux

Tone:
The tone of this book changes. It is mostly protective and reflective because the narrator is reflecting

Different Aspects That Go Into Making A Business...
There are many different aspects that go into making a business successful. Businesses need a strong
vision, great leaders within the organization, strong sales, a successful sales team, a steady stream of
revenue as well as a way to produce the revenue or sales coming in. Two important aspects of business
that are not always brought up, is profit and the cost to operate the organization. Often times managers
only look at the net profit or net revenue on their Profit and Loss statements without breaking down
the numbers or cost of doing business. Even if an organization is successful and has a great profit
margin at the end of the month, quarter or year, does not mean they do not need to analyze the cost of
the operations. Analyzing those costs cannot only help an organization become profitable, when they
are unprofitable, but can make them more profitable even if they show a healthy profit. Finding ways
to cut cost or become more efficient with the operations can lead an organization in the right direction
when it comes to their finances (Ahmed, S., 2016). When small businesses are involved they need to
pay close attention to their cost and controlling their cost. Profit planning is one way to manage cost
and use the budget to create ways for the managers to recognize how to work cheaper and more
efficiently. One small miss step with over purchasing or overages on production time or inventory can
cost a small business money, when this happens it can directly affect their

Al Frameworks For An Organization Successful
al frameworks needed to make an organization successful. The objective of this particular assignment
is to survey Delta Airlines, Inc. to gather an understanding of the company s management system. The
survey is also intended to allow the student to learn how the company s management system
influences and motivates its employees. The management system at Delta Airlines has always been
founded on a family oriented approach; with an emphasis of long term job security in exchange for
employee loyalty. In an attempt to recover from significant revenue losses, the company was forced to
turn away from the family business approach during the financial turmoil which affected the entire
airline industry in the early 1990s. This change was very disconcerting for the employees, who began
exploring options to unionize. Fortunately, the company returned to a business model which 1)
restored employee confidence; and 2) provided employees with the opportunity to become
emotionally invested in the future success of the organization.
Although this new partnership approach is credited with giving Delta Airlines a competitive advantage
in the industry, we believe that the lynchpin for success has been a commitment to the following
fundamental core values; effective communications, stress management, a universal understanding of
how people learn; and an integrative performance management system which. This document intends
to highlight key components of each core value as they relate to

Negative Effects Of Advertising
Firstly, advertisements have negative impacts on young people. Media has played a major role in
influencing people s perception of the differences between male and female expectations. For
example, sex appeal in advertising can have negative effects on youth s self esteem, body image and
can brainwash their young minds to purchase the company s products. Advertisements have always
used sex appeal to gain attention and persuade people to buy that certain product. The media creates
an unrealistic body image, and women are often shown as sexy, thin and beautiful. These images can
pressurize young people to look and behave this way. Also, it can impact them physically and
mentally and decrease their self esteem/self worth. A tool that is used ... Show more content on

For instance, youngsters that don t buy branded clothes or shoes may feel bad about themselves and
might start to believe that they don t fit in the group. Advertisements can encourage people to buy
products and make them think that purchasing and consuming are a major part of their lives.
Therefore, advertisements can alter an individual s way of thinking and force them to believe and feel
in a certain way. Secondly, there is a lack of equal representation in video games. Women are often
represented as submissive and subordinate characters that depend on men. They are oftentimes
categorized in four groups of characters like sex objects or prizes, victims, feminists and heroes
(Dupon). For young people that are still developing their perception about women, these stereotypes
can be detrimental and create a misrepresentation on women. Female roles in video games are
presented as sexual objects and victims, but male gender roles are shown as heroes, villains and as
overly aggressive and violent. In video games, female characters are excessively under represented
and are mainly given secondary roles in relation to men. For examples Mario Brother s popular
princess Peach Toadstool was present in the early video games, but the players could not choose to
play her character. She was a damsel in distress that the brothers were attempting to rescue . Women in
video games are shown scantily clad and used as

that Frederick Douglass went through as a slave, better than himself. That is why Frederick Douglass

life as a slave. Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot County, Maryland around the year 1817 or

Frederick Douglass appears to be rather smart and well minded compared to the other slaves. He was
briefly taught how to read and write by Sophia Auld. Once Sophia s husband, Douglass master, found
out she was teaching him how to read and write, he immediately ordered her to stop teaching.
Douglass stated, The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with
the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of
the truths he was uttering . What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most
hated. That which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be
diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only
served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn (Douglass). That quote by Frederick
Douglass is very powerful, and goes to show how strong his motivation was to better his life. Soon
after that, Douglass was able to teach himself a bit more on how to read and write. He was a smart
man, and he was very knowledgeable. After seeing the gruesome shooting of Demby by Mr. Gore,
Douglass was able to reenact the scene, explaining all of the little details he witnessed. In a way, he
used this to his advantage. He used the gruesome stories of the terrible things that happen to other

Burden Of Leadership In Lord Of The Flies
Burden of Leadership
In the words of William Shakespeare, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. In William Golding s
novel Lord of the Flies, many of the characters are faced with the responsibility of authority.
Throughout the events of the novel, Ralph tries to keep his power. Jack works to gain power and the
role of chief. Piggy, as opposed to Jack and Ralph, works to achieve respect. In the novel Lord of the
Flies, William Golding effectively conveys the idea that the responsibility of leadership can weigh
heavily upon those unfit for power, resulting in fractures throughout society.
The effect of authority is reflected in the character of Ralph, through his struggle to maintain his
power. After the hunters brag about killing their first pig, Ralph declares there was a ship. Out there.
You said you d keep the fire going and you let it out! (74). The authority he wields over the boys is
beginning to diminish through the boy s refusal to follow his orders. Ralph makes it clear they must
keep a fire burning in order to be rescued, yet the boys who are tasked with tending to it disobey their
command. As Ralph s power is pulled away from him, the majority of the boys turn to a leader who
they believe will protect them. During Ralph s flee from the savage camp, Sam and Eric warn Ralph
that they re going to hunt you down
to morrow (209). Ralph has been completely stripped of his position as chief, and has been painted as
the enemy in the other boys eyes. He was unable to maintain control over the position he was elected
into, causing disarray in the group s dynamic. Ralph is unable to use his power to benefit the
wellbeing of the island s society.
Another character who is incapable of using power positively is Jack. When the first assembly is being
called, Jack enters with the choir and shouts Choir! Stand still! (16). Even on the island, Jack
maintains his control over the choirboys and continues to give them orders despite their environment.
When the boys elect Ralph as chief, Jack is mortified. He believes he should be chief due to his head
boy status at school, and is taken back when the other boys don t vote for him. As the boys attitudes
begin to shift, Jack reaches for

Starting at the age of 11, there was this young girl who began to get really interested into makeup. Her
dad though, did not really like makeup at all so she snuck it on whenever she got to school and made

The Young Heroine In A White Heron By Sarah Orne Jewett
The Young Heroine
Countless stories of heroes and heroines have all followed the same cycle from beginning to end of a
hero s life. The cycle starts from a certain event affecting the hero s life leading them on a quest that is
typically filled with some form of adventure. The hero is equipped for the quest with a type of power
or aid from the supernatural to help them face trials to further prove themselves. Once the hero
completes the quest, they experience either physical or metaphorical death and are rewarded greatly.
According to Griffith, A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett fits the hero archetype from the main
character being sent on a quest full of trials to the reward of the quest s completion.
In the story, A White Heron, the reader is introduced to the main character, Sylvia. Her quest begins
when she meets a man who is lost within the nearby forest and is in need of a place to stay for the

trials. For example, throughout the story, Sylvia battles with the decision of whether to provide the
hunter the location of the white heron or not. She faces many temptations of her desire to impress the

faces a trial when she climbs the pine tree to find the white heron s nest. The journey is described as

Genocide, the attempt to destroy a people because of their presumed race or ethnicity, remains alive

systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. This definition depicts the
situation in 1994 of Rwanda, a small and poor central African country.
What makes this crisis particularly shocking is the structural character of the violence: villages have
been torched, and civilians have been deliberately targeted by bombing, summary executions,

To understand what is happening here let?s go back to the history of Hutu and Tutsi in Rawanda and
how the dominant group wants to control the minority groups. In the early 1900?s, the Tutsi were
placed in positions of power by Belgium, because they looked ?whiter?. Governed by Belgium?s
racist way of thought, ethnic identity cards were introduced. The Catholic Church supported the Tutsi
and the new social order and educated the Tutsi and imposed their religion on them. Though the
population of Rwanda was ninety percent Hutu, they were denied land ownership, education, and
positions of power. In the 1950?s, the end of the colonial period, the Hutu overthrew the Tutsi
government. The Hutu maintained the practices of ethnic division, and the Tutsi were forcibly
removed from positions of power. Many Tutsi fled from Rwanda and were not allowed to return.

in a equal and accessible way. Although, the effectiveness of law reform relating to family members
has been slow to develop, the current quality of family law, which is guided by the means of the 1975
Family Law Act (FLA) has been affecting justice for family members. The effectiveness of family law
has changed a lot over time. The legislation that has been changed to ensure the effectiveness of the
family law system includes the reform of the family laws Property (Relationships) Legislation
Amendment Act 1999 (NSW), Family Provision Act 1982 (NSW) (now replaced by the Succession
Act 2006 (NSW), Family Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) ... Show more content on

This change in law achieves justice for most same sex couples, though there still are some couples
who are negatively affected by this changing issue. The issue of shared parental responsibility is
another issue that provides difficulty in achieving justice for the family law. There is a belief that
equal shared parental responsibility is in the best interest of the child although this may not always be
the case. An example of not achieving justice in this area is if a divorcing mother claims that her ex
husband is abusive and her husband should not gain any sort of custody of her children; if the mother
does not have any evidence to back this up, her abusive ex partner may gain custody of their children
and the mother doesn t. This in itself is a huge injustice for the mother and her children. The
contemporary issue of surrogacy and birth technologies has been a long and argumentative topic.
Some people may argue that a woman bearing a child for another couple is a sacrifice of their body,
while others view it as an unethical and damaging process for the child; saying that the child is denied
their birth parents. The laws relating to surrogacy differ in many countries but most countries agree on
commercial surrogacy, saying that it be illegal for a woman to be paid to give birth to someone else s
child. The responsibility of the care and protection of children lies with the child s parents. The
decisions regarding children may include the child s health, schooling, cultural upbringing and many
other factors. The protection of the children becomes a problem when the parents of the children may
not be able to provide adequate care and protection for their children, which is when the law will start
to intervene in various

My Experience Abroad
What was the best part of your experience abroad?
I don t have enough positive words to describe my experience abroad. Being forced to adapt to a
different academic style made me grow as a student, and being exposed to different cultures has
opened me up to a world I never could have imagined. I was fortunate enough to travel to many
different European countries during my time abroad, and each one was more incredible than the last. I
think the best part of my experience abroad was living in London. I absolutely loved city life. The
tube has to be one of the world s greatest inventions, and it s incredible how small and homey such a
big place can feel when everything is easily connected.
What did you dislike about it?
Overall, my experience abroad was amazing. If I had to pick something to complain about, it would
likely be the third party program that I was a part of. Many students, along with myself, experienced
communication issues with the program provider, and the company didn t often accept responsibility
for the mistakes that they made throughout my time abroad. That being said, these incidents didn t
affect my experience enough that I regret choosing their program. I think in the future, I would just
advise other students to ask more questions and get everything in writing to avoid these problems.
How has your study abroad experience contributed to your development academically and personally?
While studying at City, University of London, I was fortunate

Case Study Jack Carlisle, CIO
Executive Summary
Jack Carlisle was hired to restructure and organize IZL IT department in a growing financial services
organization that is engulfed with internal turmoil which saw a sudden replacement of the company s
CEO Chuck Hansen. Jack Carlisle as a straight shooter must assess the changes, both tactical and
strategic, in an environment in which IT was not well managed to align with business operations and
gets criticized by peer executives from the standpoint of both a professional and career.
IZL Corporation is plagued by many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leadership within IZL Corporation has become complacent and not ready to tackle challenges
inherent in managing large public companies as well as dealing with developed financial institutions
and regulators. This is evident when Jack Carlisle asked the question How do you know how things
are going? and the response was If I don t get a call, everything must be fine. (Austin, 2007). The
company lacked a reporting mechanism that will otherwise provide important information about the
affairs and health of the business and IT infrastructure.
Business process remained manual as reporting was done in spreadsheet rather than utilizing
application designed and developed to produce efficiency and alignment with business strategy. There
seem to be no care for data protection as there were no policies, procedures and regulatory system to
guide workflow and ensure compliance. The handling of physical infrastructure did not matter to
either executive managers of the IT staffs especially when you come to think of the investment and
cost associated with maintaining an IT shop.
Supporting Argument
It is evident that IZL Corporation lost its competitive advantage due to unclear business strategy and
as a result its market share dwindled and CEO Chuck Hansen ousted. For IZL Corporation to return to
its old glory days, must

Servant Leadership And The Board Of Directors
Servant Leadership the Board of Directors
Introduction
What is the proper relationship between a servant leader within an organization and the board of
directors that provides organizational oversight and direction for the organization? What does the
literature reflect about this particular dynamic, and how do power and politics of an organization
function vis à vis servant leadership? These issues will be discussed in this paper.
Servant Leader and the Board of Directors
The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others (Albert
Schweitzer) (Keith, 2010).
Dr. Kent M. Keith was a presenter on behalf of the Greenleaf Seminar on Servant Leadership at the
53rd annual conference for the Arizona School Boards Association in December, 2010. He correctly
pointed out that servant leadership is about serving others, about becoming distinguished through the
altruistic desire to serve, and about the ...universal recognition of the importance of serving others
(Keith, 2010).
Servant leadership is not about acquiring or wielding power but rather it is about leading which can
help an organization become a powerful servant to others in the sense of its mission and goals. The
board members in any organization are accountable, Keith explained in his presentation. He quoted
Robert Greenleaf: Trustees [board members] are accountable to all parties of interest for the best
possible performance of the institution in the service of the needs

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of
officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the
program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my
early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as
leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through
to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility

Why Fear Plays From The World Of Bull Riding Or Motorcycle...
The mental game; every athlete must play the mental game and it s especially prevalent within the
world of bull riding or motorcycle racing. When I ponder my days of riding bulls (for a short period)
and now racing motorcycles, the one key emotion that sticks out like a broken bone from an arm after
a bad crash is most certainly fear. With these two sports, fear is the prevailing emotion that the athletes
feed off of and at times, attempt to suppress and control. It s key to understand why fear plays such a
major role when looking at these sports objectively. Think about what might happen. The
repercussions range from some bruises and broken bones to death and permanent disfigurement. So it
is very natural for the athlete to have to deal with the fear of what might go wrong . There are
countless times that when it came time for me to slide onto my bull, fear would completely
overwhelm me. I was not just forced, but completely pushed into a middle state of panic. All of a
sudden my vision narrowed, my breathing became very quick and my pulse could be felt in my
temples; racing well over 100 beats per minute. Because of this reaction to fear I usually walked away
defeated because I was unable function; I was frozen. It must be understood that fear is a very natural
reaction as the human brain tends to want to preserve itself. However, fear can often hold athletes like
bull riders or motorcycle races back because we forget the task at hand: doing the very best we

Metals and Halogens Reactions
Metals and Halogens reactions
Elements such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine belong to Group 7, Halogens. At
room temperature, fluorine is a yellow gas, chlorine is a pale green gas, bromine is a red liquid, and
iodine is a purple solid. Astatine is a radioactive element, therefore it exists only in small amounts. All
the halogens exist in diatomic molecules. They have high ionization energies and are the most
electronegative elements. Their electron configuration ns2 np5 make them perfect elements in order to
react with Group 1 and 2 metals since they want an electron which Group 1 and 2 are willing to give.
Therefore, out of all the main group elements, Halogens react vigorously with Group 1 and Group 2
metals. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the triiodide ion that is mostly responsible for the orange red brown color since iodide was
colourless and since iodine is not very soluble in water. As the reaction was progressing, the coloured
solution began to fade to orange, yellow and finally became colourless. As these colour changes occur,
the temperature of the solution was decreasing gradually until it has finally reached room temperature.
This change in colour was due to two factors. First, all of the solid and dissolved iodine had reacted
with the zinc to produce iodide and zinc ions, both of which are colourless substances. Secondly, the
red brown solution of triiodide ions also reacted with zinc metal to produce the colourless iodide ions.
In the other experiment three pieces of universal pH indicator were placed on a white spotting tile and
drop of chlorine water, bromine water and iodine water were transferred on each one of them. The
colour of the pH indicators were observed and recorded as shown in the table 1.The halogen solution
were filled into the dimples of the spotting tile. They were put in columns and rows which had
numbers (1, 2,3 and 4) and letters (A,B and C) in order to differentiate each solutions. After

Abortion Vs Late Term Abortion
In today s society, there are many topics that cause a lot of uproar and controversy. Certain topics like
politics, homosexuality, and climate change are just a few topics that are debated on a daily bases. One
other topic that has been debated on for centuries is abortion. Abortion is the ending of pregnancy
before birth; this results in the death of a fetus or an embryo. Abortion happens in different countries
around the world, but it is commonly known in the United States. The United States is one of only
seven countries in the world where abortion is legal in some states. Many people know about abortion
and what it is, but what some people do not know is that there are several different types of it. Just a
few types of abortion are early abortion, late term abortion, and partial birth abortion. There is early
abortion, which is when the pregnancy is terminated before the fetus is available, and then there is late
term abortion, which is when an abortion is performed after the second trimester. The most crucial
type of abortion, partial birth abortion, is a form of late term abortion that ends a pregnancy in which
the fetus is removed intact and results in death. Although some people believe abortion is not the best
decision to make and that it should be illegal, early abortion is a little better than late term abortion.
All in all, late term abortion should be banned because it is similar to killing a fully developed child.
As previously stated, late term abortion is

Leonid Frridman s Essay America Needs Its Nerds
In the passage, America Needs Its Nerds, by Leonid Fridman he develops his argument by using the
three pillars of literature: pathos, ethos and logos.
Firstly, in lines 20 23, 28 pathos was used to develop the author s argument about children who prefers
learning or creating things versus children who play sports. He used this as an example to appeal to his
readers emotions because these children who preferred invention over sports are known as social
outcasts and are ostracized for being intelligent or wanting to show off their talent. The author was
clearly showing his emotion in line 28 Enough is enough to get his readers to understand the feeling
by putting yourself in that child s position.
Second, ethos was used to try and convince

Film Genre Of Western Films
Over the past years Hollywood has produced a wide array of brilliant movies, appearing through a
variety of genres. However, for every generation there consistently exists a dominant movie trend that
encapsulates that culture, frequently making appearances on the big screen. Early on in filmmaking
history, western movies were one of the original major trending movie genres. Later, in the 1970 s,
adventure was extraordinarily popular, then horror movies saw a significant rise toward the 1980 s.
Each generation has its genre. As of recently, there is an observably massive surge in the Sci Fi/Action
genres, particularly with teenagers and young men. More specifically, the rampant growth in
superhero movies, which obviously fits into modern culture s acclamation for action centric science
fiction films. Over the last decade superhero movies have surged in popularity, becoming the most
prominent film genre in history, because of its myriad of source material, painless production, and
devout fans. Throughout the last decade, both Marvel Studios and DC Comics have release a grand
total of thirty eight superhero movies, from those two studios alone. Numerous other lesser known
studios have opted to cash in on modern culture s super hero craze. Recently, Marvel studios released
their newest superhero blockbuster, which marked the ninetieth superhero movie released in theatres
since the year 2000. Amazingly, an astonishing eighteen more are scheduled to be released within the

Pglo
The focus of this lab was to identify which plasmid (PFG or Pglo) was inserted into the E. coli culture.
In order for the E. coli to be transformed, the E.coli must first be made competent. The cells were
made competent by incubating the cells in calcium (2+) and then in cold temperatures. A quick heat
shot opens pores in the cell membrane and allowed plasmid DNA to enter the cells. The plasmid that
was inserted into the E. coli culture had antibiotic reistance gene and a reporter gene. A reporter gene
is a gene that is easy to detect, and for this lab it could be Pglo or PFG. The cells were placed in plates
that contained antibiotics to kill any bacteria that did not uptake the plasmid, this is necciary because
about 1% of bacteria will be transformed. This allowed only cells that up took the DNA to ... Show

The second method was to purify plasmid DNA from the E. coli culture and physcically analyze the
DNA by digesting the plasmid with specific restriction endonucleases. The restriction endocucleases
used were Bam HI (B), EcoRV (E), and BgIII (G). These restriction endonucleases recognize specific
short DNA squences. These cut plasmids were then placed in a 1% aragrose gel to determine the band
sizes. The expected phenotype for Pglo is that there will be floursenscens light produced on the LB +
amp + Arab plate, where as for PFG the expected phenotype is that there will be flourcent phenotype
only in LB+ Amp + IPIV. For the physical analysis Pglo will produce fragment sizes in restriction
enzyme (E) 5371bp long. Enzyme (B). fragment sized 625bp, 220bp, and 4,526bp in restriction
enzyme (B). Pfg will produce 2 fragments in restriction enzyme (E), one will be around 3,855bp long,
and the other one will be 2,506bp long. In restriction enzyme (B) there will be only one band about
6361bp long. From restriction enzyme (G) there should be one bad around 6361bp

Essay on Alcohol Advertising
Alcohol Advertising
Exposure to alcohol advertising is an everyday occurrence. Alcohol advertising is persuasive not only
to adults but to those who are too young to buy alcohol legally. Although parents and peers have a
large impact on youth decisions to drink, marketing also has a significant impact by influencing the
attitudes of parents and peers and helping to create an environment that promotes underage drinking.
Alcohol companies focus billions of dollars on advertising their products and still claim that the effect
is minimal. I pose a few questions that are; who are the targets of alcohol advertising? How does
alcohol advertising affect the people targeted by alcohol companies? Finally what actions are being
taken to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recognizing this important marketing fact, alcohol companies deliberately devise ads designed to
appeal to heavy drinkers. The heavy user of alcohol is usually an addict. Another interesting
perspective on the industry s claim that it only advertises to encourage moderate drinking to those of
age, is that if this were true, and only the 105 million drinkers of legal age in the US consumed the
official maximum moderate amount of alcohol, .99 ounces or roughly two drinks, a day the industry
would suffer a 40 percent decrease in the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits. Meaning that if
alcohol companies truly only targeted who they claim they do, they would only be nearly cutting their
profits in half. Besides the heavy drinkers, the young audience plays a great deal to the alcohol
industry. It is no wonder alcohol is appealing to the youth when ads only display very healthy,
attractive, and youthful looking people. Advertising is a powerful educating force in American
Culture, one that promotes attitudes and values as well as products. Ads are now even featuring
characters with special appeal to children. The makers of some 200 consumer products including
stuffed animals, dolls, T shirts, posters, and mugs are dedicated to alcohol. Advertisements have even
gone as far as popular children s movies; one example of this was the very popular Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles movie. The average age which people begin

Compare Marx And Engels Abolishing Private Property
Marx and Engels sought to abolish private property through Communism just as previous historical
movements have. They cited the French Revolution and how bourgeois property arose from the
banishing of feudal property, and Marx and Engels stated that they desire for a communal property to
arise from the banishing of private property. They believed that abolishing private property was
justified because property is not a product of wage labor; the only product that wage labor creates is
capital. Marx and Engels argued that the existence of personal property is the direct opposition to
wage labor and the capital that goes with it. They said that capital earned is not any kind of a personal
power, but rather it is highly social. Saying this, they

  • 2. The Right To Freedom Of Speech Imagine yourself as an Oxford University student in the twentieth century, being at one of the most prestigious and highly recognized research intuitions in the world. This puts enormous pressure on the university itself to uphold a positive image. Students at Oxford University are being silenced on issues regarding politics, the war on terror, gender equality, and many other social issues around the world. What if students want to express their opinions in a public manner? They should be aloud to do so without the worry of having any negative repercussions from the media or the University itself. Platforming is restricting the free speech of the students as well as their basic rights and freedoms. I believe students should not have a platform to speak because arguments could be misrepresented from the platform it self, as well no platforming fails to give students their right to free speech. The issue at hand is that students should be allowed to speak with little or no platform. The citizens of the United Kingdom have the right to freedom of speech (provided they do not incite violence, or sexually harass people). In the debate, on the right side of the argument who believe that platforming is a legitimate tool have expressed vigorously that platforming is a positive idea. They believe that No platforming has no mutual ground for people to debate freely. This can help keep debates and speeches to the point and focused directly on the issue at hand. • 3. White Collar vs Blue Collar Imagine there is a society, and in this society there are only two households, one of them is a white collar family, the other is a blue collar or working class family. To keep it simple, white collar workers are highly skilled and usually work in an office setting, while blue collar workers perform more labor based jobs and get their hands dirty. Now you may ask, what do these two groups have to do with each other? Well, their differences are what bring them together, and neither group would be able to operate without the other. Personally, I grew up and still live in a white collar family and this alone has shaped my household environment. I would also imagine growing up in the other class would have an impact on your household environment as well. Although these two households are quite different from each other, they still impact one another and society today wouldn t be the same without either of them. If someone were to talk about a home , there could be a number of things that could come to mind. When I personally think of home I think of a place of peace and acceptance that you share with the ones you love. No matter what your definition of home is, everyone grows up in a different home environment. I first lived in Farmington, Minnesota but eventually moved to Prescott, Wisconsin in fourth grade. One of the things that I think has effected my very own home environment is the fact that my dad has a white collar job. My dad is a certified public accountant and ... • 4. Campus Sexual Assault And Rape ACKNOWLEDGMENT I would like to send my appreciation and gratitude to David La Rooy, who has supported my journey in making this dissertation possible to do. I would like to give thanks to all the students who have participated in this dissertation. ABSTRACT The aim of this dissertation is to observe whether female or male students have a similar or different perspective of the meaning of consent in a sexual context; specifically, on the subject of campus sexual assault. INTRODUCTION In the United States (U.S.), sexual assault on campuses remains to make national headlines, and now this problem is increasing and occurring in the United Kingdom (U.K.). The term sexual assault varies in definition from state to state in the U.S. and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who are closest to the victims should help the victim on their path of recovery. Although, the supports from those closest to the victims may play a positive role in the recovery process; however, some people may feel to withdraw or partly blame the victim for getting raped or sexually assaulted (Vito, Maahs and Holmes, 2006: p. 281). EXPLAINING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE As reported by, feminist criminologists, their perspective of rape and sexual assault differ from liberal and radical feminists. Liberal feminists viewpoint in regards of rape as a gender neutral assault on a persons autonomy and mainly focusing on the harm that rape can do to an individual. In contrast, radical feminists describe rape as a subject to be recognised and understood as a major pillar of patriarchy; a social system in which men claim the positions of dominance and control of the central norms and values that are linked with masculinity (Johnson, 2005: p. ... • 5. New Media Bias Bias in New Media I. Introduction New media is a general term used to describe all forms of media that exists in the internet. New media generally refers to social media sites but also refers to blogs, forums, online message boards, and video and image sharing sites (Anderson 2013; Van Dijck, 2013). Like with conventional mass media, bias exist in new media platforms. The key difference is that while bias in mainstream media such as newspapers and network news are centered on how these sources communicate news and current events, bias in new media is centered on the users themselves as they choose what type of news and information they read and share in new media sites (Kietzmann, Hermkens, McCarthy and Silvestre 2011). This is a defining characteristic of new media wherein the users are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giving users the capability to choose and select what appears on their media pages encourages bias by allowing the formation of fragmented social groups that have polarized opinions on specific issues and current events (Bakshy, Messing, and Adamic 2015). In response to these tendencies, news reporting agencies have learned to adapt and launch digital forms of mainstream media to propagate their news targeted at social media outlets, giving them the freedom to spread the agenda they want to communicate, knowing that their target audience can easily find and share them using social media (Calais Guerra, et.al 2011) further propagating bias news reporting. The following is a discussion centered on further exploring bias in new media including that factors that encourages bias news sharing in new media cites, how new media platforms encourage having biased perspective when it comes to news and information and access, and the impact of new media usage in traditional news media outlets. Specific cases will be used to demonstrate the impact of new media in biased news reporting and a discussion on the implication of this continued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Captain America Civil War Earlier this year, Captain America: Civil War stormed into theaters wowing audiences with its spectacular narrative and incredible splash page sequence that no one could stop talking about. Now, Disney and Marvel are letting fans bring that home, as the film is now available on Blu ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Here are the list of bonus features with a review below. As we get to The Hunter, we learn about The Black Panther, who comes in with his own agenda. Here we learn why they start him off as the hero we know and love, and forego some familiar story elements like the murdering of Uncle Ben or the spider bite that gives Peter his powers. Not only does the chapter focus on Spider Man, but also how Tom Holland s age plays a factor in the movie, as well as the future of the MCU. The Battle covers the film s epic airport fight scene. The cast and crew describe their experience of what it was like to shoot that scene. The Saboteur addresses Zemo s manipulation of the characters. • 7. The Matrix By The Wachowski Brothers Just what is The Matrix? This is the question that the extremely entertaining and absurdly thought provoking movie The Matrix, by The Wachowski Brothers, hopes to answer. How can we know that WE don t live in the Matrix? That is the question that the movie hopes that we can answer for ourselves. The movie opens with the apparent double life of Thomas Anderson. Thomas Anderson works a normal job as a computer programmer, but spends his free time as a freelance hacker known by the name of Neo. He is contacted one day by the team of the Nebuchadnezzar, a ship in the real world full of a crew that has been pulled from the Matrix. After following their instructions and being extracted, he wakes up in a vat with plugs in him and is rescued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not the movie the Matrix, but the Matrix in the movie, The Matrix. The Matrix is pulls on the problem of perception. Humans are grown in fields, harvested, and then their brains are hooked up to a machine that simulated life while their energy is harvested. The problem is however, when your senses are being perfectly spoofed and you are in a near perfect simulation of the world you will not know that you are not living the real life. The movie makes some interesting parallels to the idea of dreams. We have all had those dreams that seemed very real when they happened, only to wake up the next day and think about how ridiculous they were. The idea of the Matrix is to be close enough to the real world that the human mind doesn t catch on. This raises an interesting question though. If the humans are really grown and harvested and the Matrix is the only thing that they ever know, why did the Matrix have to simulate the reality that did exist. Would it not be equally possible for the simulated Matrix to be completely different in physical laws and color spectrum and general makeup from the world that humans are accustomed too? The Matrix was extremely successful, in my experience, with illustrating this problem that we have. In the movie, there was someone there to clue the main character into the fact that he was being deceived, and there was an easy way out the real world was but a phone ... • 8. Essay On Online Gaming Games There are especially useful if you intend to play together on a multiplayer game or are using Shareplay. Last but not least is the PS4 s performance. First, of all, the graphics and FPS. The graphics are incredible at 1080p and 4k resolution (which describes the dimensions/quality of the graphics)which makes things look great when playing a game like Destiny where there s a lot to look at. The FPS is really to, staying between 30 60 FPS the whole time with very little stuttering or lag. The VR headset also never dips below 60 80 FPS so its users don t get motion sickness. The sounds in games are really crisp and clean. Their quality is really impressive and they make the games on the PS4 seem much, much better and they get even better if ... Most of the games are family friendly, so this would be the kind of thing that you would buy if you had small children, or a big family that wants to play together. Next up: features. The Wii U has a much smaller amount of space than both the Xbox 1 and the PS4 with 8 GB for the basic and 32GB for the deluxe, just enough for saving games. If you want to expand, you need an external USB storage. There also isn t nearly as many features that Xbox and PS4 have which really narrows down the uses of the Wii U other than playing games. The controllers for it are just Wii remotes and the Wii U gamepad which can be kind of irritating to use at times, but it also acts as it own display for the game so you don t have to always have to look at the T.V. There is also a new pro controller which looks very similar to the Xbox 1 controller, only with some buttons moved in different places. Its design is much more compact than the PS4 The graphics and performance of the console are pretty good with many games performing at 1080p and at 60fps, but some dip below that. Overall, it s a pretty good system in terms of performance and mostly good in games, but it really lacks in some key areas like variety of games, storage, and it also lacks a bit of ... The Effects Of Music Programs On Students The Knowledge of reading music, and playing an instrument has proven to be beneficial to the learning curb in students including those of little to no background in a literary education to students in college. However, there are schools in America where music isn t offered. Having a music program could create improved grades, memory, concentration, and quicken the learning process of literacy, but it is believed that music isn t for everybody. Many parents and administrators believe that music is just a waste of time and doesn t help a student academically. It has been stated and shown in media of all sorts that music doesn t help kids academically and is only a distraction with potentially harmful effects. For example, in John McDaniel s words on the negative effects of music in school,: Music programs in school can promote competition and rivalry among peers. In most music programs, students compete for certain positions and chairs, and they must practice and oust their peers in order to climb the ranks in the section. This can lead to bad feelings and competitive values among young children, which can be harmful to their future development. It is understood why this has been stressed against music in schools. However, it is faulty. Other beliefs are that it does more harm than good because it affects grades negatively . Many working mothers have faced discrimination during pregnancy and paternal leave. He has utilized many themes in his writings, one example of his themes is the portrait of female and this is considered as revolutionary for his era. Patricia says Hawthorne has created a wide range of female characters such as strong, independent minded, self confident and others types are docile, fragile, and submissive. Nina Baym disputes that assumption. She claims the misogynist label toward Nathaniel Hawthorne is unfair. She further mentions Hawthorne never viewed women as unimportant people, but rather, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual partners. • 14. Application Of Cellulases On Juice Recovery Application of Cellulases on Juice Recovery Introduction Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011). The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals, plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4 linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes: endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. Exoglucanases act on the reducing or non reducing ends of cellulose (Zhang, 2013). Endoglucanases cut the nonreducing ends of cellulose or the beta 1,4 bonds. Endoglucanases are also produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals (Zhang,2013). Lastly, beta glucosidases are produced by archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals and are known for degrading cellobiose (Zhang, 2013). All three forms of cellulases are produced from animals, bacteria, and plants. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss mainly the cellulase enzyme and its effect on the juice industry in addition to other applications of cellulase, and how cellulase behaves in combination with other enzymes such as pectinase and xylanase. 1. It exceeds the criteria necessary in addressing the mediation of the media, the conspiracies within conspiracies throughout the novel, and the sundering of the public sphere necessary for the title of conspiracy fiction. Ultimately, even the anarchist group fuelling the conspiracies is not safe from its own inner conspiracy. The novel distinctly examines how conspiracies can form within groups. Joseph Conrad achieves this in how the anarchists employ stealthy techniques and deception even amongst themselves. They conceal their motives; deliver anarchist pamphlets to incite the perceived proletariats, and revel in the unpredictability that anarchy brings. The motives fuelling their actions are concealed from one another. Moreover, even their crowning achievement in the destruction of the Greenwich observatory, has unique layers of meaning amongst the group. To the Professor, the meandering destruction sates his need for chaos and the validation of his nihilism. From Vladimir s perspective, he wields this terrorist act as a method to subvert Britain s government and promote a totalitarian order. His motives towards anarchy actually serve to dismantle it. The Federal Emergency Management Agency The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 1979 to 2005 Introduction Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible, effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of legitimacy by the public. • 18. Impact Of The Silk Road Indian Ocean Trade And Trans... The Silk Road, Indian Ocean Trade and Trans Saharan Trade Networks were all routes/networks of trade throughout the eastern hemisphere. People would travel these routes so that they could trade for things that they wanted from other areas. Here, people were able to trade for commodities and raw materials, but also be able to learn about new things such as religion and education. Culture and economy allowed for trade to expand in the Silk Road, Indian Ocean and Trans Saharan Trade Networks and it brought people from different lands together, expanded their knowledge, and affected their governments through its views. First, the economy brought Eurasian civilizations together through the trading routes. When traveling through the Middle East, Africa and Asia, Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta states that Some of the Chinese own large numbers of ships that they send to foreign countries. There are no people in the world wealthier than the Chinese. (Ibn Battuta, and H. A. R. Gibbs.). China was a very wealthy civilization in this time and their trade with other lands allowed them to form relations with the lands that they traded with. Other countries would want to trade with China due to its known wealth. Panian, Z. (2012) identifies six stages in the evolution of business intelligence to its current state. Business intelligence first got introduced to the business world through Data Mining . Initially, data mining was a concept alien to the business world. But in late eighties, the business community started to find great utility in its practice. Businesses discovered that the data mining process could be employed to predict solutions to complex business problems. Following the simpler data mining techniques, the more complex On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) techniques marked the second phase in the evolution of business intelligence. OLAP applications helped in complicated analysis of data stored in big data warehouses. These analytical applications broke down data into various dimensions to arrive at more factual results than data mining. Then came the third evolutionary stage of Balanced Scorecards (BSC) that elevated business intelligence to another level. Moving beyond decision making, Business Scorecards helped businesses in performance tracking. Particularly, BSCs helped the top management to analyze whether their strategic ... • 31. Different Aspects That Go Into Making A Business... There are many different aspects that go into making a business successful. Businesses need a strong vision, great leaders within the organization, strong sales, a successful sales team, a steady stream of revenue as well as a way to produce the revenue or sales coming in. Two important aspects of business that are not always brought up, is profit and the cost to operate the organization. Often times managers only look at the net profit or net revenue on their Profit and Loss statements without breaking down the numbers or cost of doing business. Even if an organization is successful and has a great profit margin at the end of the month, quarter or year, does not mean they do not need to analyze the cost of the operations. Analyzing those costs cannot only help an organization become profitable, when they are unprofitable, but can make them more profitable even if they show a healthy profit. Finding ways to cut cost or become more efficient with the operations can lead an organization in the right direction when it comes to their finances (Ahmed, S., 2016). When small businesses are involved they need to pay close attention to their cost and controlling their cost. Profit planning is one way to manage cost and use the budget to create ways for the managers to recognize how to work cheaper and more efficiently. One small miss step with over purchasing or overages on production time or inventory can cost a small business money, when this happens it can directly affect their ... The management system at Delta Airlines has always been founded on a family oriented approach; with an emphasis of long term job security in exchange for employee loyalty. In an attempt to recover from significant revenue losses, the company was forced to turn away from the family business approach during the financial turmoil which affected the entire airline industry in the early 1990s. This change was very disconcerting for the employees, who began exploring options to unionize. Fortunately, the company returned to a business model which 1) restored employee confidence; and 2) provided employees with the opportunity to become emotionally invested in the future success of the organization. Although this new partnership approach is credited with giving Delta Airlines a competitive advantage in the industry, we believe that the lynchpin for success has been a commitment to the following fundamental core values; effective communications, stress management, a universal understanding of how people learn; and an integrative performance management system which. Once Sophia s husband, Douglass master, found out she was teaching him how to read and write, he immediately ordered her to stop teaching. Douglass stated, The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of the truths he was uttering . What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most hated. That which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn (Douglass). That quote by Frederick Douglass is very powerful, and goes to show how strong his motivation was to better his life. Soon after that, Douglass was able to teach himself a bit more on how to read and write. He was a smart man, and he was very knowledgeable. After seeing the gruesome shooting of Demby by Mr. Gore, Douglass was able to reenact the scene, explaining all of the little details he witnessed. In a way, he used this to his advantage. In William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, many of the characters are faced with the responsibility of authority. Throughout the events of the novel, Ralph tries to keep his power. Jack works to gain power and the role of chief. Piggy, as opposed to Jack and Ralph, works to achieve respect. In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding effectively conveys the idea that the responsibility of leadership can weigh heavily upon those unfit for power, resulting in fractures throughout society. The effect of authority is reflected in the character of Ralph, through his struggle to maintain his power. After the hunters brag about killing their first pig, Ralph declares there was a ship. Out there. You said you d keep the fire going and you let it out! (74). The authority he wields over the boys is beginning to diminish through the boy s refusal to follow his orders. Ralph makes it clear they must keep a fire burning in order to be rescued, yet the boys who are tasked with tending to it disobey their command. As Ralph s power is pulled away from him, the majority of the boys turn to a leader who they believe will protect them. During Ralph s flee from the savage camp, Sam and Eric warn Ralph that they re going to hunt you down to morrow (209). Ralph has been completely stripped of his position as chief, and has been painted as the enemy in the other boys eyes. He was unable to maintain control over the position he was elected into, causing disarray in the group s dynamic. Ralph is unable to use his power to benefit the wellbeing of the island s society. Another character who is incapable of using power positively is Jack. When the first assembly is being called, Jack enters with the choir and shouts Choir! Stand still! (16). Even on the island, Jack maintains his control over the choirboys and continues to give them orders despite their environment. When the boys elect Ralph as chief, Jack is mortified. He believes he should be chief due to his head boy status at school, and is taken back when the other boys don t vote for him. As the boys attitudes begin to shift, Jack reaches for ... The hero is equipped for the quest with a type of power or aid from the supernatural to help them face trials to further prove themselves. Once the hero completes the quest, they experience either physical or metaphorical death and are rewarded greatly. The issue of shared parental responsibility is another issue that provides difficulty in achieving justice for the family law. There is a belief that equal shared parental responsibility is in the best interest of the child although this may not always be the case. An example of not achieving justice in this area is if a divorcing mother claims that her ex husband is abusive and her husband should not gain any sort of custody of her children; if the mother does not have any evidence to back this up, her abusive ex partner may gain custody of their children and the mother doesn t. This in itself is a huge injustice for the mother and her children. The contemporary issue of surrogacy and birth technologies has been a long and argumentative topic. Some people may argue that a woman bearing a child for another couple is a sacrifice of their body, while others view it as an unethical and damaging process for the child; saying that the child is denied their birth parents. The laws relating to surrogacy differ in many countries but most countries agree on commercial surrogacy, saying that it be illegal for a woman to be paid to give birth to someone else s child. The responsibility of the care and protection of children lies with the child s parents. The decisions regarding children may include the child s health, schooling, cultural upbringing and many other factors. Servant Leadership And The Board Of Directors Servant Leadership the Board of Directors Introduction What is the proper relationship between a servant leader within an organization and the board of directors that provides organizational oversight and direction for the organization? What does the literature reflect about this particular dynamic, and how do power and politics of an organization function vis à vis servant leadership? These issues will be discussed in this paper. Servant Leader and the Board of Directors The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others (Albert Schweitzer) (Keith, 2010). Dr. Kent M. Keith was a presenter on behalf of the Greenleaf Seminar on Servant Leadership at the 53rd annual conference for the Arizona School Boards Association in December, 2010. He correctly pointed out that servant leadership is about serving others, about becoming distinguished through the altruistic desire to serve, and about the ...universal recognition of the importance of serving others (Keith, 2010). Servant leadership is not about acquiring or wielding power but rather it is about leading which can help an organization become a powerful servant to others in the sense of its mission and goals. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. The mental game; every athlete must play the mental game and it s especially prevalent within the world of bull riding or motorcycle racing. When I ponder my days of riding bulls (for a short period) and now racing motorcycles, the one key emotion that sticks out like a broken bone from an arm after a bad crash is most certainly fear. With these two sports, fear is the prevailing emotion that the athletes feed off of and at times, attempt to suppress and control. It s key to understand why fear plays such a major role when looking at these sports objectively. Think about what might happen. The repercussions range from some bruises and broken bones to death and permanent disfigurement. So it is very natural for the athlete to have to deal with the fear of what might go wrong . There are countless times that when it came time for me to slide onto my bull, fear would completely overwhelm me. I was not just forced, but completely pushed into a middle state of panic. All of a sudden my vision narrowed, my breathing became very quick and my pulse could be felt in my temples; racing well over 100 beats per minute. Because of this reaction to fear I usually walked away defeated because I was unable function; I was frozen. Certain topics like politics, homosexuality, and climate change are just a few topics that are debated on a daily bases. One other topic that has been debated on for centuries is abortion. Abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth; this results in the death of a fetus or an embryo. Abortion happens in different countries around the world, but it is commonly known in the United States. The United States is one of only seven countries in the world where abortion is legal in some states. Many people know about abortion and what it is, but what some people do not know is that there are several different types of it. Just a few types of abortion are early abortion, late term abortion, and partial birth abortion. There is early abortion, which is when the pregnancy is terminated before the fetus is available, and then there is late term abortion, which is when an abortion is performed after the second trimester. The most crucial type of abortion, partial birth abortion, is a form of late term abortion that ends a pregnancy in which the fetus is removed intact and results in death. Recognizing this important marketing fact, alcohol companies deliberately devise ads designed to appeal to heavy drinkers. The heavy user of alcohol is usually an addict. Another interesting perspective on the industry s claim that it only advertises to encourage moderate drinking to those of age, is that if this were true, and only the 105 million drinkers of legal age in the US consumed the official maximum moderate amount of alcohol, .99 ounces or roughly two drinks, a day the industry would suffer a 40 percent decrease in the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits. Meaning that if alcohol companies truly only targeted who they claim they do, they would only be nearly cutting their profits in half.
