Apocalyptic Survivors In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Apocalyptic Survivors
Each of the sacred texts of Christianity, Greek Polytheism, Ancient Macedonian Religion, and
Judaism outlines an apocalypse myth which illustrates a near end of the world, and in each myth,
the gods or God select survivors. Although each religion is unique, there are some stark similarities
among the myths including the methods used to attack the world and the way the survivors rescue
themselves and others. Some religious texts portray one person saving people who will repopulate
the Earth, but others describe a group of people or even a small population withstanding the
apocalypse. Investigating several religious texts reveals that even though some apocalyptic trends
remain constant throughout each belief, the selection and utilization of humans by the higher
power changes slightly between each myth. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains an apocalyptic myth
where a god indirectly chooses a survivor to rescue the human race, and he receives a blessing
from the gods in return for his bravery and success. In the epic about ancient Mesopotamian religion
, Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh the story of how he became immortal after surviving the gods
downpour. Utnapishtim lived on the banks of the Euphrates in a town called Shuruppak when
the great gods decided to send down the Deluge. Each of the gods swore on this plan, and chose to
keep it secret. However, one god named Ea yelled his swear at a wall: Abandon wealth and seek
survival! Spurn property, save life!

The Scottsboro Boys And The Great Depression
On March 25, 1931, With the Great Depression gripping the nation after the stock market crash
of 1929, people jumped on to freight trains to travel from one city to another city in hope to search
for work. A group of whites and a group of blacks who are later called the Scottsboro boys got in a
fight on a train. The Scottsboro boyswere defending themselves and they kicked the white group
off in Jackson County. Then, two women who were on the train were trying to avoid arrest
therefore falsely accused the nine black youths (who range from the age of thirteen to nineteen
years old) of raping them. The Scottsboro boys were then arrested with assault and rape charges
added against all nine of them after the allegations were made by Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. It
was a rousing allegation in the Jim Crow South, where many whites were attempting to maintain
power just 66 years after the end of the Civil War.
On April 6, 1931, Trials begin in Scottsboro before Judge A. E. Hawkins. On April 9, a judge
sentenced the eight convicted defendants: Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson,
Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright; are
sentenced to death by electrocution. He declared a mistrial in the case of the youngest defendant,
thirteen year old Roy Wright ends in a mistrial, after seven jurors insisted on the death penalty even
though the prosecution asked for life imprisonment. The cross examination of Victoria Price lasted

Negative Effects Of Social Media
Everyone knows that teens love going on social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat,
Twitter, or Instagram, but what some don t know is that these sites can actually cause harm to
them. Social media has been around since 1997, about 20 years. Social media is intended to
help people stay caught up with their friends, and family, and also with what s going on in the
world today. Social media, however, is causing negative effects on today s teens, such as,
causing anxiety and depression, lowering self esteem, and also affecting their brain
development. Some people argue that social media academically benefits teens. The article Are
Social Networking sites good for our society explains how teens can academically benefit from
social media. The article says, After George Middle School in Portland, OR introduced a social
media program to engage students, grades went up by 50%, chronic absenteeism went down by
33%, and 20% of students school wide voluntarily completed extra credit assignments ( Are
Social...). It is true that teens who use academic social networking can benefit from social
media, if they use academic social networking sites. Most teens do not academically benefit from
social media because they do not use it for academic purposes. Statista shows the top social
networking sites for teens. According to statista, the top three teen social networking sites are
snapchat, 79%, Facebook, 76%, and Instagram, 73%. Although social networking sites can
benefit teens academically, most teens do not use these sites. Academic social networking is
not on any list of popular social media sites, in fact it is not even in the top 20. Teens will not
benefit academically from social media sites such as snapchat, instagram, and facebook. So when
teens don t actually use academic social media sites, they do not benefit academically from social
media. As a result, most teens do not academically benefit from social media. Extensive use of
social media in teens may lead to anxiety and depression. Nick Zagorski from the American
Psychiatric Association did a study on the risks of using social media. The analysis showed that
people who reported using the most platforms had more than three times the risk of

The Dynamic Character Of Reverend Hale In The Crucible By...
A dynamic, or round, character is a major character in a work of fiction that encounters conflict
and is changed by it. Reverend Hale is a dynamic character. Reverend Hale is a truly good man
and has shown this many times througthout the acts. In act 1 Hale was called in because the
children had been behaving a little strange, and many of the towns people believed the behavior
was caused by witchcraft. Hale specialized in this and was seen as the best person to figure out if
it was truly witchcraft. When he arrived he began to observe and interogate everyone believed to be
involved. Based on the evidence that he had been given he thought witchcraft was the source. In
Act one he says, no man may further doubt the powers of the dark and gathered in monstorous

He realizes that witchcraft is not actually occuring in the village, and that the children had made
the whole thing up out of fear. This fear was put in them by Abigal williams, the person who
started this mess. Once he realized this he refused to sentence anyone else to death without
undeniable proof. He tells Danforth, I dare not take another life without there be proof so
immaculate no slightest qualm of conciense could doubt it. ( Miller 188). Hale is so furious
because he realizes that people are using these allegations for their own gain, and that he has
been sentencing innocent people to death. When he brings evidence to the court they just brush
him off. He then proceeds to quit the court. He changes his whole stand point on the issue.
Instead of sentencing people to death he tries to get the people accused to confess and save their
lives. He says, I come to do the devils work. I came to counsel christians they should relive
themselves. He does this because he knows if they confess they won t be hung, and that s really
all he wanted to do was save a

The Mexican Revolution
The Mexican Revolution began November 20th, 1910. It is disputable that it extended up to two
decades and seized more than 900,000 lives. This revolution, however, also ended dictatorship in
Mexico and restored the rights of farm workers, or peons, and its citizens. Revolutions are often
started because a large group of individuals want to see a change. These beings decided to be the
change that they wanted to see and risked many things, including their lives. Francisco Pancho
Villa and Emiliano Zapataare the main revolutionaries remembered. These figures of the revolution
took on the responsibility that came with the title. Their main goal was to regain the rights the
people deserved. The peons believed that they deserved the land that... Show more content on

DГaz, afraid of losing his presidency, rigged the election and had Madero arrested. After his
release, he fled to the United States and planned a revolt for November 20th, 1910. While this
revolt did fail, it inspired many people who were tired of being dictated to join in a revolution.
Banding Together
Soon after this failed revolt, groups began to form in hopes to successfully remove Diaz. In
Northern Mexico, Francisco Villa returned and gathered an army of Mexican cowboys. Another
army was led by a peasant unsatisfied with the government with the name of Pascual Orozco. One
of the bigger groups consisted of Emiliano Zapata and they were called the Zapatistas. This force
grew to include over 5,000 men. In 1911 these groups worked together to overrun DГaz. Zapata
seized the town of Cuautla, and afterwards cut off the town from Mexico City. DГaz started to
realize what was happening and fled to Europe. This victory would start of a new conflict beginning.
The New Conflict
Soon after the victory Francisco Madero was declared as the new president. Madero tried to please
everybody which led to nothing being done. Nobody liked the lack of progress and people once
again started forming revolutionary groups. Victoriano Huerta, the leader of the conservative
federal army, and a faction of people led by DГaz s nephew Felix DГaz fought for ten days in
Mexico City. This battle is known as La Decena Tragica. On the ninth day of the battle, Felix DГaz

Medicine Vs. Simpson In The History Of Medicine
Some people may say that Simpson is more important in the history of medicine than Lister.
Simpson dealt with the pain section during the 19th century, and after many years of previous
surgeons/doctors attempting to find a thing to fight pain, Simpson found the answer in Chloroform.
This was important because it was used widely for military purposes and also aided in childbirth;
Queen Elizabeth 1st and Charles Dickens wife, both used Chloroform during the birth of their
children. Although, there were many setbacks in the use of anaesthesia and Chloroform. A patient
took Chloroform for an ingrown toenail and died. This was important because it showed that
Simpson didn t know how much Chloroform to use for each patient. However, other people

Camera Phones Trigger Controversy Essay
Camera Phones Trigger Controversy
When Catherine Zeta Jones appeared in a television commercial, she was one of the first to
advertise one of the newest additions to a cell phone: the camera phone. The purpose of the
commercial was to show how convenient, compact and useful such an apparatus could turn out to
be. The theory is quite simple, basically combining a cell phone and a digital camera into one
gadget. Major cellular companies like Nokia, Samsung and Sanyo observed how popular digital
cameras were becoming, and decided to integrate it with one device most Americans find a
necessity and not a luxury; the cell phone. No sooner than the phones hit the market, did the stores
sell out of the phone. In 2002 An estimated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lets us start by examining the area of compatibility. Gone are the days of old where you need to
carry separate items. Now, everything is integrated into one nice piece. A phone can also be a
camera, and can also be used for email, games, a phone book and an alarm clock. If we pattern the
growth of technology, we can see all things: printers, fax machines, scanners, etc. have become
multifunctional (Zdnet). The cellular telephone is no exception, and the camera phone is proof of
that. Multi functional devices are good for companies because they can focus on primarily one
product, and it is good for the consumer, as the consumer needs not buy multiple devices.
So what would possess cellular companies to invest millions to integrate a digital camera and a
cellular phone? Its is basically a quest to make both the consumer and the manufacturer better off
than they were before. For the consumer, it is a quick and easy way to take snapshots in an
instant, and send them to the desired people. Since people carry a phone on them wherever they
go, now a camera will follow them. Imagine witnessing a crime in the middle of the street, where
usually no surveillance cameras exist. A person using a camera phone can capture the criminal s
picture, and aid police in his arrest.

The Nigerian And The American Legal Systems
INTRODUCTION
The Nigerian and the American legal systems share a lot of common ground. Having been
colonized by Britain, both countries share a lot of characteristics with the English legal system.
Both are common law legal systems based on English common law both at federal and state levels
apart from the state of Louisiana in the United States that is based on the Napoleonic civil code.
Both countries are constitution based federal republics and have bicameral legislatures consisting
of the Senate and House of Representatives in the United States (Congress) and House of
Assembly and House of Representatives in Nigeria (National Assembly). Despite the fact that
Nigeria and America have similar legal systems, there are still some apparent variations in terms of
practice and procedure a key component of effective dispensation of justice. Essentially, what
obstructs quick dispensation of justice and case management is not the law; rather, it is the practice
and procedure.
JURISDICTION OF COURTS
In the English case of Bremer Vulkan Schiffbau und Maschinenfabrik v. South India Shipping
Corporation Ltd, Lord Diplock defined the court s inherent jurisdiction as a general power to
control its own procedure so as to prevent its being used to achieve injustice. Lord Denning finely
affirmed, Whenever a tribunal goes wrong in law, it goes outside the jurisdiction conferred on it
and its decision is void. Jurisdiction is fundamental in every proceeding in a court. If a court

agricultural products into materials that can be productively used in the auto industry. He
renovated former rice fields into fields for iceberg lettuce and grew 365 varieties of soybean

Henry Ford was such a significant figure of Richmond Hill that he has been honored with a full

Ligation Analysis Lab
Background Amplified luxAB genes of isolated chromosomal DNA from Vibrio fischeri
bacteria were ligated into digested pGEM [1]. The cut pGEM contained a stuffer a small
fragment of DNA positioned between the EcoR1 and Xba1 restriction sites and located within
the polylinker region of the plasmid [1]. The stuffer fragment could potentially re ligate back into
the plasmid instead of the desired insert, namely the digested PCR product with luxAB genes [1].
Ligation reactions varied in two ways: via insert to plasmid ratios (either 1:1 or 2:1) and via the
inclusion or exclusion of the stuffer fragment within pGEM [1]. The purpose of this experiment is
to assess the effects of varying ligation parameters on the success of cloning luxAB genes... Show

The Woman Warrior, By Maxine Hong Kingston
For centuries, people faced prejudice and struggle to live the American Dream . Thousands of
people come to the U.S. to live a better life for their family. Instead they face racial seclusion,
struggle to survive, and consequences of American s fear. In the memoir, The Woman Warrior, by
Maxine Hong Kingston, a girl who discloses stories about Chinese myths, families, and events in
the U.S. that has shaped her identity. In the historical fiction novel, When the Emperor was Divine,
by Julie Otsuka, is about a Japanese Americanfamily sent to an internmentcamp in Utah during
WWII written in children s lens. In both novels, silence is viewed as gender and ethnical oppression.
In Maxine s novel, silence is presented through encounter with other characters. For example,
she attempts to talk to a girl in her school, Kingston states, If you don t talk, you can t have a
personality. You think someone is going to take care of you all your stupid life? You re not the
type that gets dates, let alone gets married (180). Kingston uses symbolism as a form of
expression to indicate that she is forcing herself to speak instead of the girl she s talking to. She
is infuriated that she has a squeaky voice and is unable to fully pronounce sentences. She doesn t
want to be a minority among her peers and wants the ability to speak her mind which Chinese
culture deprived her. In a way she is talking about her own physical insecurities, how fragile she
feels, and what she is going through

It does effect the story because it was a time of great struggle for many families and Anchee. In the

Min is telling us about her struggles and giving the information first hand and showing me how
hard it was to live during the time of the revolution. I learned more about the Great Proletarian
Cultural Revolution and the struggle that many had gone through in that time.
I could connect this story to A Long Way Gone, another memoir, because in the beginning of the
book Ishmael Beah struggles to find food and he has no money to pay for the food. His life was

Baby Busters Vs Baby Boomers
Currently, there are five main generations. Traditionalists are the oldest generation, being born
between 1900 and 1945. They only constitute 5% of the current workforce, as most have retired

workforce (Wong et al. 2008, 878). This generation was born following World War II between
1945 and 1964, with approximately 76 million individuals (Wiedmer 2015, 52). Generation Xwas
born from 1965 to 1981 and is also known as the baby busters because their birth rates are vastly

The Importance Of An Official Language
America does not have an official language and it does not need one. In his article Why the U.S.
Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official
language. The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would
result from requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the
official language presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English
only culture conflicts with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of
speech, the value of diversity rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would
in the end divide rather than bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an
official language would benefit the U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to
immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los
Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election ballots in seven languages, Medicare or
Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says workers that speak little English cost cities
and states a large amount in misunderstandings (Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost
overlooks the value of translators. For example, In one of my classes yesterday a student had a
seizure and only the students that spoke his language were able to assist. When the seizure began
no one around him could communicate with him.

Importance Of Visit To The Holocaust Museum
When I was in between my junior and senior year of high school, I was given the chance to travel
to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National History Day competition. It was one of the
most incredible experiences of my life and ignited a passion for traveling the world. When in
D.C. we all went to thousands of museums. The first day that we were there, we went to the
Holocaust Museum. It was such a somber experience, I don t think I heard a word uttered out of
anyone s mouth until we reached the end of our journey. The grief is tangible in the air and feels
as if it will suffocate you if you breathe deep enough. As we exited the museum, our steps were
heavy as we made our way back to the dorms we were staying in. The next day, we trekked
through all the memorials at the National Mall, never managing to find the Korean Warmemorial.
Seeing that memorial was especially important to me because I am a Korean American.
Nevertheless, we ran out of time and had to hop to the next museum for our timed passes. Then we
arrived at the American History Museum. When we entered, it was so crowded that it was hard to

When the body notices the changes it will interpret it as a real pregnancy and will start to
release hormones familiar with pregnancy, making you believe you are pregnant. New research
is starting to show that a women with many relationship problems can be at a higher risk to have
a phantom pregnancy. This is a good explanation as to why Queen Mary had at least two
phantom pregnancies. She had such a complicated relationship with her father, and she was in
great need for an heir to the throne, she could have convinced herself she was pregnant. She also
had a very complicated relationship with her husband, who only came to England when he had

England and he knew no one liked him. The people knew that a relationship with Spain meant
war with France, and England did not want that. Mary s emotions controlled her political
obligations, knowing she should have chosen another husband to avoid war with France, but her
feelings for Philip overtook her control. While she was in the midst of her phantom pregnancies,
May was still trying to restore the Catholic faith in England. Mary believed that the way to do
this was to charge the Protestant rulers with crimes and burn them at the stake. As a result over
300 people were burned at the stake, she also had to take care of the people who tried to keep

Symbols In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The house is alive. It possesses its own malign will. (Bailey) A house can hold a slew of
symbolic meanings. It may represent an ancient family line and it may also be a physical
structure. Usually, it s referred to as a habitable place, warm, safe and comforting. Home, sweet,
home. Yet, there are times in which, home, is not habitable, warm, safe or comforting. This is just
the case of Roderick Usher. Edgar Allen Poe writes Usher as the victim in, what would be
considered in modern times, a haunted house story. The Fall of the House of Ushercan theoretically
be consider the original haunted house story. What is a house is haunted, especially what is the
meaning of this in The Fall of the House of Usher?(Usher) Essentially, a haunted house is one
that scares, meaning the house itself scares. The Fall of the House of Usher, demonstrates the
importance of setting to gothic literature through establishing mood, location and situation,
exposing the reader and creating vivid mental pictures of the story s world. When a literary
piece establishes setting, mood, plays an important role in describing the situation in which a
reader is mentally placed. In gothic literature, like, Usher, mood is responsible for conveying the
feeling of dread. During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year,
when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens. (293, line 1 3) Poe s first line of Usher is

When making objectives for the next year they should be agreed upon by both parties.
If a manager has 20 employees this doesn t leave enough time to do a proper evaluation and they
really only have 9 months to base their evaluations on. I suspect managers with large number of
employees to evaluate will not remember what you have achieve unless was stellar or grievous.
Therefore, it would be wise for employees to keep their own records of agreements and deliveries
to those pre set agreements and objectives.
How Evaluation are Determined
In the previous year managers and employees agree upon performance objectives for the next
year. They have a mid year review to talk about how well those objectives are being met in the
June or July time frame. In September, depending on how well an employee is meeting those
objectives, a manager must come up with a justifiable performance rating.
Comp ratio describes the position of an employee s salary relative to the salary range midpoint. The
salary range includes a minimum, a midpoint and a maximum. The midpoint represents a 1.0
(100%). Comp ratio is calculated using the employee s salary divided by the midpoint of the salary
range. If the CR is .90 (90%), the employee is to be paid 10% below the salary range midpoint. If
the CR is 1.00 (100%), the employee is to be paid at the midpoint of the salary range. If the CR is

The Development Of Enterprise Risk Management Essay
1.3 The Development of Enterprise Risk Management
This section will briefly discuss the development of ERM especially the emerging factors that
influence companies to shift from TRM to ERM. The researchers will discuss both the academic
literature and the role of professional.
(D Arcy, 2001) proposed that the origin of riskmanagement was developed by a group of
innovative insurance professors Robert I. Mehr and Bob Hedges in 1950s . The objective of risk
management at that time was to maximize the productive efficiency of the enterprise. At that time,
risk management was specifically focused on pure risk and speculative risks.
According to (Skipper Kwon, 2007) , in the 1970s, when the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries decided to reduce production in order to increase the price, financial risk management
became an interesting issue highlighted by firms because the increment in oil price has affected the
stability of exchange rates and the inflation rate .
Later in 1980s, political risks attracted more attention from multinational corporations as a result of
different political regimes in different countries. For example, when the government announced a
new policy, investors and corporations must make decisions to reduce political risk (Skipper Kwon,

management because they did not apply the risk management tools and techniques such as options.

Human Growth In The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
When a human is born we know nothing. We are naive and don t comprehend things that are
considered common sense to other people . But we have a brain that holds and retains information
so we can learn. We gain most of our information through trial and error. Toni Morrison plays on
the process of human growth in her novel The Bluest Eye. Frieda and Claudia are naive about what
it mean to be ruined . Pecola doesn t understand that she shouldn t go into strangers homes. Pecola
doesn t understand that she can not change her eye color. Morrison was trying to say the
adolescence is very naive.
Frieda and Claudia are naive about what it mean to be ruined . I don t want to be ruined .....
Besides, what about China and Poland? They re ruined too, aren t they? And they ain t fat. (101)
In this quote Frieda is explaining to her sister why she is crying. Frieda goes onto explain that she
has been molested by Mr. Henry, a tenant in their home. Claudia finally finds out that her sister is
crying because she doesn t want to be ruined like prostitutes of her town. The two girls think that ...

American girl, goes to the town witch doctor and asks him to give her blue eyes. Pecola thinks
that by having blue eyes she will become more beautiful.Pecola thinks that by being beautiful
people will treat her better and she will be happier. But what Pecola doesn t realise that it is
impossible for her to change her eye color. Not only is it a rare anomaly for a black person to be
born with blue eye, but it is impossible to change your eye color after birth. She is unaware that
she is stuck with the brown eyes she was born with. Cosmetic contacts, if they were invented then,
not common in this time. Even if they were in her state she is too poor to afford the price. Since

Theme Of Perseverance In October Sky
It s not that I m so smart, it s just that I stay with problems longer, by Albert Einstein. By
persevering and not giving up, success can be reached. Perseverance is one of the themes in the
novel October Sky . This book revealed the life of a young boy, Homer Hickam Jr., also called
Sonny, who fought for his dream of building rockets against all odds amongst a small mining
town. As time elapsed in the novel, Sonny matured and learned many lessons about rocketry and
life, such as pursuing a dream, the influence of an important person, personal ambition versus
loyalty to someone else... Amongst all the important themes in the novel, persevering against all
odds is the most important one. The Rocket Boys faced countless failure and errors during their
rocket building. With almost no support from the rest of the town, the Rocket Boys had barely any
resource when they started. Living in a town full of miners, building rockets received criticism and
mocking from townspeople and even his family.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first rocket Sonny ever built has blown his mother s rose garden fence down and caused a
chaos. Most of the early attempts exploded before even lifting off the launching pad. One of the

purposes. The Rocket Boys examine each rocket carefully after it was launched to enhance their
new rocket design base on their failures. With him(Quentin), no matter what happened, I felt
scientific. Failure, after all, just added to our body of knowledge.

Increase in the Legal Drinking Age
Another reason why the legal drinking age was changed is because of the fact that the
adolescent brain is not fully developed; it is supposed that excessive alcohol intake causes brain
damage in teens. However, in order for damage to occur, the drinking has to be extremely
excessive. If there are only a few of these extreme bingeing episodes, they do no harm to the
adolescent brain (Minimum Drinking Age). David J. Hanson, a professor at the University of New
York at Potsdam, states, There s no evidence that drinking in moderation damages developing
brains. If it did, most Italians, Jews, French, Greeks, Spaniards, Portuguese and many others would
be suffering mental defects (ProQuest Staff). The argument that occasional binge drinking causes
brain damage in teens is not supported by the facts. The methods being used to inform early twenty
first century youth about alcohol misuse are ineffective and impractical. Alcohol educations
programs are mainly about scaring teens out of any type of alcohol consumption (McCardell),
which in reality makes drinking attractive to them because of the mystery involved (Minimum
Drinking Age). As a result, the programs intended to prevent underage drinking actually have the
opposite effect (Ogilvie); instead, alcohol education should be based on the reality of the bingeing
environments teens and young adults are dealing with (McCardell). Because of the higher drinking
age, high school and collegiate educators are not able to

Compare The Differences And Similarities Between Russian...
In this essay I will be discussing and answering the question What are the primary differences and
similarities between Russian and British ballet technique with reference to the professional
works: Swan Lake ( 2008 ) by the Bolshoi Ballet choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich and Swan
Lake ( 2009 ) by the Royal Balletchoreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov Answering this
question should help dancers gage a better idea of the differences between techniques and how
they have evolved, since there are different ways of ballet techniques out there and it is hard to
choose which is better or which suits you, by using professional works it can help give dancers an
idea of what the end product may be and the differences in things such as... Show more content on

In appendix 3 and 4 during the scene of the 4 little swans, one of the most famous scenes and
piece of music. The position of the legs in the Russian side are more precise, you can clearly see
that they are positioned at the side of the knee or slightly below the knee not on the knee or at
the back of the knee, this looks a lot more cleaner in terms of the audience s perspective, their
whole body positioning too shows a bit more precision to where they are looking. Comparing it
the Royal Ballet, their feet are positioned slightly over crossed, positioning their legs over their
knee or on their knee rather then beside. Though from personal experience in training in the
RAD system, we are told to position our feet at the side of the knee where it is a little hollow.
Though this from personal experience can be tough, because it is hard to find that area where
there are other things you are concentrating on while dancing. Therefore I still think that
positioning the feet at the very side of the knee is a lot easier to maintain, and it also prevents you
from over crossing, which in turn makes things look a lot neater. From legs to poses such as a
arabesque, to most importantly Pirouettes, the position of legs are

MTV NETWORKS: THE ARABIAN CHALLENGE
MTV Networks (MTVN) was launched MTV Arabia on November17, 2007 partnership with
Arabian Television Network (ATN) as part of their strategy to extend their network over the world
including in Middle East. General Manager of MTV Arabia, Patrick Samaha (Samaha) have to

to local taste and culture without diluting MTV global brand.

At the root of Arab culture is a religious, highly masculine, high context, polychronic atmosphere
that affects all things from what is done on a daily basis to what is watched in movies and listened
to on the radio.
MTV Arabia will experience the following issues with Arab culture: MTVs own international
culture is one that is quite western. Arabs do not simply classify western as American Western is
west of Arabia, including Europe in addition to America. For this reason MTV will need to
reshape its cultural appeal and, as it has already done, include a vast majority of strictly Arab
shows rather than European or American shows. MTV Arabia will need to match the Arab
culture in its personal approach and need to reach the people where they are. They will not
simply flock to the channel. Going to schools and shopping centers to raise awareness is huge.
Due to the level of personal focus of the Arab people, MTV will also need to include itself in social
programs and focusing on social problems.
Several expected to pose a challenge to MTV, which included:
1. Middle Easterners did not like Americans and Invasion of Iraq
2. Music is difference between Middle East and Western
3. Over 50 competing local music channels

VSP based operating mode identification binning approach. Many studies showed the ability of
VSP based emission models to reflect the transient emission rates under different operating modes
as well as the better estimation of vehicle emissions than speed based emission models (Song et al.,
2013). Scora et al. (2011) combined real time traffic data along with the comprehensive modal
emission models (CMEM and MOVES) to estimate the environmental measures in real time. The
estimation methodology based on OpMode bin provided far more dynamic and accurate
environmental information compared to static emission inventory estimation models. The OpMode

Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS
strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence
of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees
the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate
current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on
VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration
affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per
unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data
from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and
accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can
be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which
might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions.
In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable
representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the
literature we also found that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a
controlled laboratory environment or simulation based. With

holocaust started and Eliezer s family got moved to the ghetto he questioned god but, didn t think
much of it. Then when his mother and sister got separated and killed, he was angry with god. He
started questioning god and everything around him. He just couldn t believe that god could let so
many innocent people be murdered. Being forced to work with minimal food. While watching

formed in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin to nourish people who think about nature, machines, industry,
and politics. This society collapsed in 1745 because of financial issues. A second society, the

On The Fabric Of The Human Body Argumentative Essay
In the 16th century, Vesalius decided that he would state his opinion on Galen and his own
research in his book titled On the Fabric of the Human Body . However, his opinion was not
quite what you would expect from someone in and before that time period, his opinion was
negative toward Galen s thoughts and writings . Vesalius did a lot of his own research in order to
produce this book and to teach people what he thought about Galen s work and compared it to the
experiments he had done . This paper will look at Vesalius comments on Galen, why he felt like he
needed to get his opinion out there and how his opinion changed the way everyone else thought.
Vesalius talks about Galen, and how all his followers never questioned Galen s work . He spoke
of how everyone believed Galen was right, even though they could physically see that Galen was
wrong in multiple instances . Galen had even stated that he may be wrong, and that people should
go out and look for themselves, do their own research and experimentation . Nonetheless, no one
listened to that part of Galen, they all focused on that fact that he knew everything and that they
needed to look no further for more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education
My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring,
and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically,
and socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child s learning. Providing a safe
environment will allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and
topics. A vision statement is a public declaration that schools use to describe their high level goals
for the future and for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational
purpose. A vision statement may also describe a school s ideals, its organizational values, long
term objectives, or what it hopes its students will learn or be capable of doing after graduating.
We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderly learningenvironment that meets the
academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Our goal is to prepare
students for a successful school experience without the need for remediation.
I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a
reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision making, and a shared sense of purpose within the
school environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers,
parents, and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of
diverse learners and student achievement; in

Abraham Lincoln Contributions
Throughout history there have been numerous Americans who have contributed to the
development of America. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises
above all the others, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s
greatest president because of his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil
war. However, even before his presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the
people. He was known to defuse the tension between two people through his humor and
optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the election of 1860 caused the South to secede from
the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that forever changed America. Although it was
one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln remained loyal to the people and was a
strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to America will never be forgotten.
Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas
and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At a young age, Lincoln lost his
mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death, his father remarried to
Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly become close to.
Due to a land dispute in 1817, the Lincolns were forced to move to Perry County, Indiana. In 1830,
they moved again to Macon County, Illinois and then again to Coles County. However, instead of

Comparison Between Macbeth And Wuthering Heights
A Deeper look into Macbeth and Wuthering Heights
Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights prove that men and women are crazy
when dealing with love. People get pushed to their breaking points by loved ones and never
question it. This is because they are blinded by the four letter word that is capable of ruining
someone s life. When you add greed and power into this malicious equation, it becomes even more
cruel. These two bodies of work prove that the men were more affected than the women. The men,
Macbeth and Heathcliff were manipulated by their women and the things going on around them. So
how do women really get control of the relationship?
In the beginning, it is known that Lady Macbeth just lost her infant. Macbeth is away but soon
returns. They both are going through a stage of grief but express it in two totally different ways.
Lady Macbeth was upset and it is clear. Usually when families lose a loved one the parents turn
against one another. But not these two, they are a bit strange. Macbeth considers killing King
Duncan so that he can soon take his place as king but this thought was quickly dismissed. Lady
Macbeth on the other hand wanted this thought to become a reality. Immediately Macbeth declined,
he wanted no part in this intolerable act. This is when Lady Macbeth knows she has to change his
mind. So she commence to antagonize him until she got her way. She makes him feel guilty about
not being loyal to her, making him seem weak, and untrustworthy;

  • 2. Apocalyptic Survivors In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Apocalyptic Survivors Each of the sacred texts of Christianity, Greek Polytheism, Ancient Macedonian Religion, and Judaism outlines an apocalypse myth which illustrates a near end of the world, and in each myth, the gods or God select survivors. Although each religion is unique, there are some stark similarities among the myths including the methods used to attack the world and the way the survivors rescue themselves and others. Some religious texts portray one person saving people who will repopulate the Earth, but others describe a group of people or even a small population withstanding the apocalypse. Investigating several religious texts reveals that even though some apocalyptic trends remain constant throughout each belief, the selection and utilization of humans by the higher power changes slightly between each myth. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains an apocalyptic myth where a god indirectly chooses a survivor to rescue the human race, and he receives a blessing from the gods in return for his bravery and success. In the epic about ancient Mesopotamian religion , Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh the story of how he became immortal after surviving the gods downpour. Utnapishtim lived on the banks of the Euphrates in a town called Shuruppak when the great gods decided to send down the Deluge. Each of the gods swore on this plan, and chose to keep it secret. However, one god named Ea yelled his swear at a wall: Abandon wealth and seek survival! Spurn property, save life! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Scottsboro Boys And The Great Depression On March 25, 1931, With the Great Depression gripping the nation after the stock market crash of 1929, people jumped on to freight trains to travel from one city to another city in hope to search for work. A group of whites and a group of blacks who are later called the Scottsboro boys got in a fight on a train. The Scottsboro boyswere defending themselves and they kicked the white group off in Jackson County. Then, two women who were on the train were trying to avoid arrest therefore falsely accused the nine black youths (who range from the age of thirteen to nineteen years old) of raping them. The Scottsboro boys were then arrested with assault and rape charges added against all nine of them after the allegations were made by Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. It was a rousing allegation in the Jim Crow South, where many whites were attempting to maintain power just 66 years after the end of the Civil War. On April 6, 1931, Trials begin in Scottsboro before Judge A. E. Hawkins. On April 9, a judge sentenced the eight convicted defendants: Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright; are sentenced to death by electrocution. He declared a mistrial in the case of the youngest defendant, thirteen year old Roy Wright ends in a mistrial, after seven jurors insisted on the death penalty even though the prosecution asked for life imprisonment. The cross examination of Victoria Price lasted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Negative Effects Of Social Media Everyone knows that teens love going on social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, or Instagram, but what some don t know is that these sites can actually cause harm to them. Social media has been around since 1997, about 20 years. Social media is intended to help people stay caught up with their friends, and family, and also with what s going on in the world today. Social media, however, is causing negative effects on today s teens, such as, causing anxiety and depression, lowering self esteem, and also affecting their brain development. Some people argue that social media academically benefits teens. The article Are Social Networking sites good for our society explains how teens can academically benefit from social media. The article says, After George Middle School in Portland, OR introduced a social media program to engage students, grades went up by 50%, chronic absenteeism went down by 33%, and 20% of students school wide voluntarily completed extra credit assignments ( Are Social...). It is true that teens who use academic social networking can benefit from social media, if they use academic social networking sites. Most teens do not academically benefit from social media because they do not use it for academic purposes. Statista shows the top social networking sites for teens. According to statista, the top three teen social networking sites are snapchat, 79%, Facebook, 76%, and Instagram, 73%. Although social networking sites can benefit teens academically, most teens do not use these sites. Academic social networking is not on any list of popular social media sites, in fact it is not even in the top 20. Teens will not benefit academically from social media sites such as snapchat, instagram, and facebook. So when teens don t actually use academic social media sites, they do not benefit academically from social media. As a result, most teens do not academically benefit from social media. Extensive use of social media in teens may lead to anxiety and depression. Nick Zagorski from the American Psychiatric Association did a study on the risks of using social media. The analysis showed that people who reported using the most platforms had more than three times the risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Dynamic Character Of Reverend Hale In The Crucible By... A dynamic, or round, character is a major character in a work of fiction that encounters conflict and is changed by it. Reverend Hale is a dynamic character. Reverend Hale is a truly good man and has shown this many times througthout the acts. In act 1 Hale was called in because the children had been behaving a little strange, and many of the towns people believed the behavior was caused by witchcraft. Hale specialized in this and was seen as the best person to figure out if it was truly witchcraft. When he arrived he began to observe and interogate everyone believed to be involved. Based on the evidence that he had been given he thought witchcraft was the source. In Act one he says, no man may further doubt the powers of the dark and gathered in monstorous attack upon this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He realizes that witchcraft is not actually occuring in the village, and that the children had made the whole thing up out of fear. This fear was put in them by Abigal williams, the person who started this mess. Once he realized this he refused to sentence anyone else to death without undeniable proof. He tells Danforth, I dare not take another life without there be proof so immaculate no slightest qualm of conciense could doubt it. ( Miller 188). Hale is so furious because he realizes that people are using these allegations for their own gain, and that he has been sentencing innocent people to death. When he brings evidence to the court they just brush him off. He then proceeds to quit the court. He changes his whole stand point on the issue. Instead of sentencing people to death he tries to get the people accused to confess and save their lives. He says, I come to do the devils work. I came to counsel christians they should relive themselves. He does this because he knows if they confess they won t be hung, and that s really all he wanted to do was save a ... DГaz, afraid of losing his presidency, rigged the election and had Madero arrested. After his release, he fled to the United States and planned a revolt for November 20th, 1910. While this revolt did fail, it inspired many people who were tired of being dictated to join in a revolution. Banding Together Soon after this failed revolt, groups began to form in hopes to successfully remove Diaz. In Northern Mexico, Francisco Villa returned and gathered an army of Mexican cowboys. Another army was led by a peasant unsatisfied with the government with the name of Pascual Orozco. One of the bigger groups consisted of Emiliano Zapata and they were called the Zapatistas. This force grew to include over 5,000 men. In 1911 these groups worked together to overrun DГaz. Zapata seized the town of Cuautla, and afterwards cut off the town from Mexico City. DГaz started to realize what was happening and fled to Europe. This victory would start of a new conflict beginning. The New Conflict Soon after the victory Francisco Madero was declared as the new president. Madero tried to please everybody which led to nothing being done. • 9. Medicine Vs. Simpson In The History Of Medicine Some people may say that Simpson is more important in the history of medicine than Lister. Simpson dealt with the pain section during the 19th century, and after many years of previous surgeons/doctors attempting to find a thing to fight pain, Simpson found the answer in Chloroform. This was important because it was used widely for military purposes and also aided in childbirth; Queen Elizabeth 1st and Charles Dickens wife, both used Chloroform during the birth of their children. Although, there were many setbacks in the use of anaesthesia and Chloroform. A patient took Chloroform for an ingrown toenail and died. • 10. Camera Phones Trigger Controversy Essay Camera Phones Trigger Controversy When Catherine Zeta Jones appeared in a television commercial, she was one of the first to advertise one of the newest additions to a cell phone: the camera phone. The purpose of the commercial was to show how convenient, compact and useful such an apparatus could turn out to be. The theory is quite simple, basically combining a cell phone and a digital camera into one gadget. Major cellular companies like Nokia, Samsung and Sanyo observed how popular digital cameras were becoming, and decided to integrate it with one device most Americans find a necessity and not a luxury; the cell phone. No sooner than the phones hit the market, did the stores sell out of the phone. In 2002 An estimated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lets us start by examining the area of compatibility. Gone are the days of old where you need to carry separate items. Now, everything is integrated into one nice piece. A phone can also be a camera, and can also be used for email, games, a phone book and an alarm clock. If we pattern the growth of technology, we can see all things: printers, fax machines, scanners, etc. have become multifunctional (Zdnet). The cellular telephone is no exception, and the camera phone is proof of that. Multi functional devices are good for companies because they can focus on primarily one product, and it is good for the consumer, as the consumer needs not buy multiple devices. So what would possess cellular companies to invest millions to integrate a digital camera and a cellular phone? Its is basically a quest to make both the consumer and the manufacturer better off than they were before. For the consumer, it is a quick and easy way to take snapshots in an instant, and send them to the desired people. Since people carry a phone on them wherever they go, now a camera will follow them. Imagine witnessing a crime in the middle of the street, where usually no surveillance cameras exist. A person using a camera phone can capture the criminal s picture, and aid police in his arrest. • 11. The Nigerian And The American Legal Systems INTRODUCTION The Nigerian and the American legal systems share a lot of common ground. Having been colonized by Britain, both countries share a lot of characteristics with the English legal system. Both are common law legal systems based on English common law both at federal and state levels apart from the state of Louisiana in the United States that is based on the Napoleonic civil code. Both countries are constitution based federal republics and have bicameral legislatures consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives in the United States (Congress) and House of Assembly and House of Representatives in Nigeria (National Assembly). Despite the fact that Nigeria and America have similar legal systems, there are still some apparent variations in terms of practice and procedure a key component of effective dispensation of justice. Essentially, what obstructs quick dispensation of justice and case management is not the law; rather, it is the practice and procedure. JURISDICTION OF COURTS In the English case of Bremer Vulkan Schiffbau und Maschinenfabrik v. South India Shipping Corporation Ltd, Lord Diplock defined the court s inherent jurisdiction as a general power to control its own procedure so as to prevent its being used to achieve injustice. Lord Denning finely affirmed, Whenever a tribunal goes wrong in law, it goes outside the jurisdiction conferred on it and its decision is void. Jurisdiction is fundamental in every proceeding in a court. If a court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Importance Of An Official Language America does not have an official language and it does not need one. In his article Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official language. The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would result from requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the official language presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English only culture conflicts with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of speech, the value of diversity rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would in the end divide rather than bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an official language would benefit the U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election ballots in seven languages, Medicare or Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says workers that speak little English cost cities and states a large amount in misunderstandings (Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost overlooks the value of translators. They have a mid year review to talk about how well those objectives are being met in the June or July time frame. In September, depending on how well an employee is meeting those objectives, a manager must come up with a justifiable performance rating. Comp ratio describes the position of an employee s salary relative to the salary range midpoint. The salary range includes a minimum, a midpoint and a maximum. The midpoint represents a 1.0 (100%). Comp ratio is calculated using the employee s salary divided by the midpoint of the salary range. If the CR is .90 (90%), the employee is to be paid 10% below the salary range midpoint. The play revolves around three characters, Mae, the only femalecharacter in the play, and two male characters, Lloyd, her illiterate foster brother and former boyfriend, and Henry, her neighbour and new boyfriend. Mae is unsatisfied with her own conditions; she yearns to improve herself and her life, and plans to escape from the sexual and economic exploitation of Lloyd. She is aware that her aspirations can be achieved through education. (D Arcy, 2001) proposed that the origin of riskmanagement was developed by a group of innovative insurance professors Robert I. Mehr and Bob Hedges in 1950s . The objective of risk management at that time was to maximize the productive efficiency of the enterprise. At that time, risk management was specifically focused on pure risk and speculative risks. According to (Skipper Kwon, 2007) , in the 1970s, when the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to reduce production in order to increase the price, financial risk management became an interesting issue highlighted by firms because the increment in oil price has affected the stability of exchange rates and the inflation rate . Later in 1980s, political risks attracted more attention from multinational corporations as a result of different political regimes in different countries. For example, when the government announced a new policy, investors and corporations must make decisions to reduce political risk (Skipper Kwon, 2007). • 44. Increase in the Legal Drinking Age Another reason why the legal drinking age was changed is because of the fact that the adolescent brain is not fully developed; it is supposed that excessive alcohol intake causes brain damage in teens. However, in order for damage to occur, the drinking has to be extremely excessive. If there are only a few of these extreme bingeing episodes, they do no harm to the adolescent brain (Minimum Drinking Age). David J. Hanson, a professor at the University of New York at Potsdam, states, There s no evidence that drinking in moderation damages developing brains. If it did, most Italians, Jews, French, Greeks, Spaniards, Portuguese and many others would be suffering mental defects (ProQuest Staff). The argument that occasional binge drinking causes brain damage in teens is not supported by the facts. The methods being used to inform early twenty first century youth about alcohol misuse are ineffective and impractical. Alcohol educations programs are mainly about scaring teens out of any type of alcohol consumption (McCardell), which in reality makes drinking attractive to them because of the mystery involved (Minimum Drinking Age). As a result, the programs intended to prevent underage drinking actually have the opposite effect (Ogilvie); instead, alcohol education should be based on the reality of the bingeing environments teens and young adults are dealing with (McCardell). Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Comparison Between Macbeth And Wuthering Heights A Deeper look into Macbeth and Wuthering Heights Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights prove that men and women are crazy when dealing with love. People get pushed to their breaking points by loved ones and never question it. This is because they are blinded by the four letter word that is capable of ruining someone s life. When you add greed and power into this malicious equation, it becomes even more cruel. These two bodies of work prove that the men were more affected than the women. The men, Macbeth and Heathcliff were manipulated by their women and the things going on around them. So how do women really get control of the relationship? In the beginning, it is known that Lady Macbeth just lost her infant. Macbeth is away but soon returns. They both are going through a stage of grief but express it in two totally different ways.
