Argumentative Essay On Food Deserts
Eradicating food deserts has definitely become a significant issue in food and nutrition guidelines
and programs across the entire nation. As part of her Let s Move! campaign, Michelle Obama was
a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United
States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous
fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low
fat milk, and other foods that make up a full and healthy diet (CDC Features). This is largely due
to a lack of grocery stores, farmers markets, and healthy food... Show more content on

According to a New York Times article, Michelle Obama once stated, In so many neighborhoods,
if people want to buy a head of lettuce or salad or some fruit for their kid s lunch, they have to
take two or three buses, maybe pay for a taxicab, in order to do it (Kolata). She was referring to
the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs.
Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce
childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited
access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets
and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. Even when these food deserts do have access
to nearby convenience stores, it tends to be either overpriced or low quality food, which carry
mostly processed foods that offer little to no nutritional value, when compared to the food and
products that supermarkets have to offer. Adding on to this, those who depend on food stamps also
have limited options when it comes to nutritious food. This makes it even harder for these people
to live a healthy affordable

Romanticism In It Happened One Night
As the rise of cinema in the usa, came two of a great movies of their own time which captures the
public interest but in different ways. It happened one night (1934), Citizens kane (1941), are both
interesting and different in terms of social issues and also as filming and using technology at the
time of the release.
It happened one night by Frank Capra, came out in depression era (1934) with its humor,
sexiness and wisdom characteristics. The movie tells a romantic story where a spoiled girl runs
away from her rich dad and falls in love with news reporter. American comedies of 1930s
presented marriage and courtship as a vaudeville act, and love is indeed equaled with role
playing throughout It Happened One Night . Donut dunking scene mid way through the movie
shows a perfect example of romanticism and shows the passion the two characters started to have
toward one another. They fell in love but did not sleep together until marriage and meanwhile
until they get to New york they used the famous blanket wall to keep the intensions away from
someone just looking for sex and rather to someone sweet and caring which made the audience
fall more in love with the story. The movie also shows the story taking place in depression era by
showing a mother passing out from hunger and her son telling the story of their hardship that
makes viewer s grab at their heartstrings.
In terms of film techniques, Frank Capra s innovative filming and editing techniques made the
movie drastically

A Strong, Democratic Stand Point, By Bernie Sanders
Through a strong, democratic stand point, Bernie Sanders has one of the strongest resolutions to
immigration. Being in a family of immigrants himself, Sanders understands a lot of viewpoints
from the immigrants. To solve these problems, Bernie has come up with an elaborate, six step
plan. This plan covers making it easier to get a visa, making it easier to bring your family when
you immigrate, and making equal and fair trade rights. This plan will be a major step towards
solving the task at hand. However there are in fact some opposing, credibility issues. Bernie s main
goal is to make it easier to attain visas, and become naturalized. Senator Sanders wants to help the
immigrant s complete citizenship and visas quickly, without giving the... Show more content on

The base of this thriving economy is that we send enormous factories, and farms to other
countries. America takes advantage of the low prices that other countries will work for. America
fires their own strong workers, who want more money, for the cheap labor. In Guatemala, a little
over 60% of the population is living under the poverty line, and the other 40% isn t much over.
Poverty is no joke and a tragic issue that Bernie will fight to develop in not only America, but
Mexico, Central America, and China. In order to accomplish a change, laws need to be put in
place that will create more fair trade policies, and ways to make sure they are absolutely being
implemented. The tremendous amount of immigrants coming to America are coming for two
reasons, to escape poverty and escape a low quality of life. When in their own country, most of the
immigrants can t afford food every day, because of something that America has done to them. This
will be a major accomplishment to solve fair trade issues. An argument that goes along with fair
trade issues, is the exploitation of immigrants. When immigrants come here to get a better life, the
American companies that hire them, take advantage. America pays them less, and treats them
unfairly. Creating a reform to keep employers from abusing their workers will help to continue a
healthy flow of immigrants, and healthy working conditions. Sanders wants a safe

Joseph M. Juran s Life
Joseph M. Juran lived a long life comprised of many accomplishments. Using his natural gifts of
intelligence, Juran went from being a poor immigrant to being known for his quality control
expertise. He has also been known as the father of quality, and even a quality guru. This paper
gives insight into Jurans life and how he was able to work his way up to his many accomplishments.
Joseph was born in Braila, Romania in December of 1904. Five years later his father, Jakob
Juran, departed Romania and came to the United States in order better the life of his family. Three
years pass by and Joseph s father had finally earned enough money to bring his family to the United
States. The Juran family decided to settle down in Minneapolis, Minnesota and even though they
were very hopeful, poverty still took control of their lives.
During his childhood, Joseph surprisingly excelled at learning. He was so far ahead of the average
students that he eventually skipped the equivalent of four grade levels (Joseph M. Juran, 2000). In
1920, Joseph enrolled at the University of Minnesota and a short four years later graduated with a
B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After returning to school, about a decade later, Joseph received a
J.D. in Law at Loyola University in 1935.
In 1924, soon after graduation, Joseph started working at Western Electric. At Western Electric
Joseph worked within the inspection department of the famous Hawthorne Works located in

Comparing A Dystopian Society In Fahrenheit 451 And Night
In two stories from different decades have one similarity in common. They both are stories that
show and take place within a dystopian society. The book Fahrenheit 451 is the story of a
firefighter that lives in a dystopian society that does not allow books to read for a source of media.
Along with the book Night, a teenage boy named Elie who lived through the Holocaust. Even
though that the Holocaust was an actual event in our world s history, it is still considered a
dystopian society. Despite the thoughts of many individuals within these dystopian societies, the
governments try to take over and control these persons thoughts on the way society works. The two
books Fahrenheit 451and Night are similar in many ways, because of the fact that both governments
try to control the way the people within them live.
The first similarity is the rules and regulations that these people are living with. In Fahrenheit 451
there were rules that any person who had any type of book in their possession were to be
imprisoned or even killed in some circumstances. These rules were to protect the government from
being overthrown by the fantasies that these books create and give some type of a better life for
the people. Night was a story about a Holocaust survivor. Elie and his father had been brighten to a
concentration camp where they had lived under a harsh environment. The Nazi government had
created strict rules that the ss officers had to enforce. Some of these rules were to treat the

Symbolism In Fahrenheit 451 Analysis
Andrei Tarkovsky said, A literary work can only be received through symbols, through concepts
for that is what words are . In Fahrenheit 451 s society, the reading of books is illegal and
punishable by death. The protagonist Guy Montag stands against the burning of the books and
attempts to be happy with his life, even though he is a fireman. Ray Bradbury, uses many literary
devices in his story, but the most important device is symbolism. In Fahrenheit 451, a handful of
symbols advance the plot by giving the novel a deeper meaning that what appears on the surface.
Each symbol included in the Fahrenheit 451 is a piece of Guy Montag s life that is helping his
journey. In part one of Fahrenheit 451, the first symbol to appear is the hand. When Bradbury
mentions Montag s hands, he is foreshadowing that the hand will become an important metaphor
throughout the book His hands had been infected, and soon it would be his arms. He could feel
the poison working up his wrists and into his elbows and his shoulders, and then the jump over
from shoulder blade to shoulder blade like a spark leaping a gap (Bradbury 38). The spark of
doing what is right is moving from Montag s hands to his entire body. He states that his hands
were ravenous and were hungering for books. Montag does not know why he is stealing the
books, but his hand is moving without any thought. Before he begins to question society, Montag
s hands are the force that carries him through his workday. They pump the kerosene and light the
torch while Montag holds a unmoving smile on his face. When he steals the books, he says that
his hands are acting upon themselves with curiosity. His hand represents that Montag is thirsting
for a knowledge that only books can provide. Montag, unlike Mildred, is not satisfied with the
knowledge that is given from the televisions and society. Montag s hands symbolize his
consciousness to do what is right and the force that is pushing him to search for knowledge. For
the firemen in Fahrenheit 451, the idea of spreading a fire that consumes knowledge and culture
is a great feeling. It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see
things blackened and changed. With the brass novel in his

Flipped Book Report
When experiencing an event, it can be viewed from 2 different perspectives. In the book Flipped
Juliana and Bryce see each other with opposite perspectives. Juliana has a crush on Bryce, while
Bryce thinks Juliana is annoying. Juliana is always trying to help Bryce, but Bryce is always
trying to stay away from her. There are many ways that can happen, people can act like they are
their friend but reality is the opposite. In the book Flipped, from Bryce s perspective, it mentions,
All I ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone (Van Draanen 1). This explains Bryce s
thoughts of Juliana in the beginning of the book. One key event in the story is the moment Bryce
moved into the neighborhood. The moment Bryce moved into the neighborhood Juliana was
enthusiastic. But Bryce was fearful the moment he met her. Juliana has no idea that Bryce has
harsh feelings for her, but Bryce knows exactly how Juliana feels about him. For instance, when
Bryce was in the bathroom hiding in the very beginning of the book, Juliana thought he was
actually using the bathroom. When really, he was hiding from her. Another course event in the
book is the perspective of the eggs from each of them. Juliana... Show more content on

The rapidly changing regulatory environment is quickly reshaping our industry. Fleet owners can
no longer simply rely on paper files and multiple spread sheets to stay compliant.
The demands are too great, the stakes are too high. One or two seemingly small reporting

Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, (New York: Penguin Books, 1983). In this classic text,
Fisher and Ury describe their four principles for effective negotiation. They also describe three
common obstacles to negotiation and discuss ways to overcome those obstacles. Fisher and Ury
explain that a good agreement is one which is wise and efficient, and which improves the parties
relationship. Wise agreements satisfy the parties interests and are fair and lasting. The authors goal
is to develop a method for reaching good agreements. Negotiations often take the... Show more

Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their
respective constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be
planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening,
misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active
listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the
speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding
the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the
other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid
blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to
deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to
come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation
rather than as adversaries. Focus on Interests Good agreements focus on the parties interests, rather
than their positions. As Fisher and Ury explain, Your position is something you have decided
upon. Your interests are what caused you to so decide. [p. 42] Defining a problem in terms of
positions means that at least one party will lose the dispute. When a problem is defined in terms of

A Brief Note On Work And Life Balance
Work and Life balance has become a consequential topic about a few decades ago up until today.
Work life balance was originally derived in the 1970 s to refer to the balance that exists in one s
professional life and personal one (Newman Matthews, 1999). In the past decade or so, there has
sparked a curiosity in the work life balance realm. More and more studies and research came
about on the topic and attracted the attention of scholars, the government, press, etc. This increase
in curiosity could be driven by the worry that a lack of adequate work life balance could spillover
into health and even lower productivity for organizations. Today, we see that most people are
working harder and longer than they ever were which makes it nearly unimaginable to attain that
crucial work life balance. Having a sustainable work life balance means that there occurs adequate
work functioning as well as the home with there being little to no role conflict (Sturges Guest,
2004). Sturges and Guest (2004) also discuss that there are graduates that are pulled into situations
where they have to work lengthy hours which inevitably leads to a poor balance in the work and
life aspect. At the core foundation of this, work life balance characteristics are contingent upon the
various communicationmethods that occur in one s organization. Having both formal and informal
forms of communication, are crucial for both mentally and physically in order to be happy in the
workplace. This paper focuses

It is the beginning of the first century A.D. Seneca, chief Roman tragic writer and philosopher in
the time, who just came back from exile is summoned to the Roman emperor s castle by the old

Nero is a spoiled little twenty year old fat freak hungry for gladiator ism. He hates his step father,

He is known for his devilish nature and clever gossiping as a means to get what he wants. Nero
suspects him for sleeping with his mother for he often meets with her to play, he says. As to
avoid stupid accusations, Hadrian suggests that he and Nero create a small high quality contest
the winner of which would get the title of the best life taker in all Rome. Each one of them
would go on his own at night wearing a disguise and surprise someone and stab him to death. At
first doubtful but then triggered by the idea, Nero starts thinking about the name he will give
himself by the time his victory is pronounced. He sets off the game with an air of contentment as
Hadrian adds more flavor to the contest by demanding a little golden star for each life he takes.
The back story is, Nero desperately attempting to get Precia, the advisor of the emperor s
daughter in his bed. He is madly in love with her but she is in love with someone else she won t

South Beach Diet Study
Introduction The South Beach Diet, which originated with Dr. Arthur Agatston, a cardiologist,
began as a response to the growing rate of heart disease patients in the United States. He found that
many of the fad diets were focused on high carbohydrates, which were not affecting the type of
weight loss needed to reduce heart disease. The center, or heart of the diet, is focused on healthy
lifestyle living, and maintenance around nutritional choices. The South Beach diet focuses on three
phases: Phase one is the kickoff to weight loss; eliminating all carbohydrates. Phase two focuses on
the re introduction to carbohydrates; making healthier carb choices. Phase three is about diet
maintenance and making healthier lifestyle choices. With... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This seems simple enough but the vast majority of people today jump on fad diets due to their
lack of resources and time. They want the quickest way to lose weight fast. The diet does not
involve additional supplementation or specific exercise routines. The diet itself is continually
changing due to new research and frequently asked questions from dieters. In fact the creator of
the South Beach Diet, Dr. Arthur Agatston, provides a website where subscribers can ask
questions and read up on new changes. Critics of the diet argue that the diet does not stress
exercise as much as it should. Dr. Agatston states that only 20 minutes of exercise a day is
enough while on this diet. The critics argue that of those trying to lose weight, 20 minutes is not
enough; especially for those who are already out of shape (Mercola Vaszily, 2007). The South
Beach Diet s mainstay is that through smart food choices, the dieter can maintain his or her
weight. A Case for Legitimacy? Along with the South Beach diet, there are literally hundreds of
other diet programs on the market that supposedly offer a healthy weight loss solution to the
dieter. However, most of these, including the South Beach diet, are considered fad diets simply for
the fact that most of the people that go on them only stay on them a short period of time. Because
of this fact, the legitimacy of these diets must be questioned. In the case of

as well as altered the intentions of subsequent American foreign policies. His rise to power made
the Cold War virtually impossible to avoid.
The traditional, orthodox interpretation places the responsibility of the Cold War on Stalin s
personality and on communist ideology. It claims that as long as Stalin and the authoritarian
government were in power, a cold war was unavoidable. It argues that Stalin violated agreements
that he had made at Yalta, imposed Soviet policy on Eastern European countries aiming at political
domination and conspired to advocate communism throughout the world. As a result, United States
officials were forced to respond to Soviet aggression with foreign policies such as the Truman
Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. Yet revisionists argue that there was no proof of Stalin promoting
communism outside Russia and that Stalin s decisions were first and foremost, pro Soviet and not
of communist intentions. Up until 1947, it is evident through Marshall Plan as well as statements
and interviews made by Stalin that he was still thinking of cooperation with the United States,
Britain and France. Despite post war conflicts and instability of Soviet American relations, the
USSR s initial embrace of the Marshall Plan at its announcement expressed

The Benefits Of Safety Razors
Today s typical man starts his day with a cheap disposable razor and some goo out of a can. That
daily shave is neither the best shave nor the most economical shave possible. Those honors belong
to the traditional shaving equipment that is now making a comeback. A beginner will find that a
good double edge safety razor, a badger hair brush and some face friendly soap will soon become
his best friends in the bathroom.
The Benefits of Safety Razors
The first issue to consider is the cost. Typical cheap disposable razors must be replaced often.
Cartridge refills for multi blade razors generally cost around twenty dollars for eight. That works
out to two dollars and fifty cents apiece. Contrast this with a twenty cent razor blade. A pack of
100 blades generally sells for less than a pack of cartridge refills. If you use two blades a week then
you have spent the same amount for a year s worth of blades that would have only bought you
eight cartridges. That s quite a savings.
Now consider the shave. A standard razor requires you to push the many blades into your skin to
get a good shave. This is because these blades are designed to be as safe as they can be for as
many people as possible. A double razor is adjusted to your own perfect angle. This means that the
blade need not be shoved into your skin. Instead, you set your perfect angle. After some practice
you will soon be enjoying the smoothest and closest shaves of your life.
A safety blade razor has another

Examples Of Human Errors In The Workplace
In this report the main errors that happen in a workplace are mentioned. The main factors that affect
the performance and the prevention techniques for the errors have been discussed. An example of a
disaster that occurred due to human error have been studied. Humans have a crucial role in
designing, installing, manufacturing and maintenance fields in industries. Humanerrors occur when
a person fails to perform a task that could lead to the stoppage or slowing down of work. It also
happens when there is a damage to equipment or property as a result of a person not doing their
tasks correctly. Human errors can be caused due to numerous factors and some of them are
mentioned below.
Poor lighting on work floor.
Lack of skill and training for the work force.
Problems with the design of the machines.
High levels of noise.
Unplanned layout of work.
Malfunctioning of tools.
Poorly maintained machines and operating procedures.
Generally human errors are divided into six different categories according to the different functions
carried out in an industry and they are:
Errors during operation.
Errors during assembly.
Errors during design.
Errors during inspection.
Errors during installation.
Errors during maintenance.
The errors that can happen in all of the above mentioned fields can again be categorised into:
Errors during action
Errors during checking.
Errors during information receival.
Errors during information transmission.

Raymond Carver s They Re Not Your Husband
They re not your husband is a short story written by Raymond Carver and published in 1973.
Raymond Carver is a minimalist writer, which provides his short stories with an economy with
words, adverbs and a focus on surface description. This allows the context to dictate meaning.
Therefore, the reader has an active role in the creation of the short story; to choose side based on
inclined innuendo and hints.
The story reveals an unemployed salesman, Earl Ober, who feels obligated to get his wife,
Doreen Ober, to lose weight, due to two men s negative statements about his wife s body; look at
the ass on that, will you? I don t believe it. (...) The other man laughed I ve seen better . The two

Thereafter, Earl monitors his wife s food intake. For an example at the part where he catches her
eating scrambled eggs and bacon. Earl become furious. It seems like he is turned into a body
fascist and he does not care about Doreen at this point because of his usage of the word Slob .
This word does not only pictures her obesity, but also that she has a lack of self discipline. Later
on her colleagues describe her appearance as not recognizable; people are saying things at work,
(...) That I don t look like myself . At this point the story the title They re not your husband is
important since he as her husband is her conclusive reference point, which means that only he is
to judge her appearance. The foundation of Earl s argument towards this statement is that
Doreen lives with him and therefore she is an echo of him. Thus, she might be the extension of
earl s male ego. Nonetheless, Doreen gets objectified once again in the end of the story, where
Earl is at the diner in order to re test the public opinion about his wife s appearance. Earl do not get
the answers he seeks; the people who have been asked do not recognize Doreen s new appearance.

Ishmael Harrington Extract
In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout
the extract especially when Harrington is watched eating. For example, this is clear to the
audience as Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer.
This quote proves Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his
mouth, a greasy trickle of pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that
the phrase a greasy trickle of pink liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross
because of the colour pink and it could also be described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the
description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he
was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is used to describe the meat large chunk .

Also, the description of the facial expression shows disproval of what he was given. I think that
He cut hungrily into the remains of his beef because he was desperate to eat the beef and he was

Chinese Food In Jade Snow Wong s Fifth Chinese Daughter
Looking at food as multidimensional, as something that shapes us, our identities, our cultures (
Stajcic, 8), Jade Snow Wong strongly believes that Chinese food is a marker of the Chinese
identity. As a non verbal form of communication, food is notably at the center of every important
event in our lives, such as birthdays, weddings, holidays and funerals. Within ritual contexts,
food often stands in for expressions of life, love, happiness or grief (Stajcic,13). Therefore, she
devotes a lot of space in Fifth Chinese Daughter to descriptions of Chinese food habits, customs
of weddings and funerals, Chinatown daily life, as well as business dealing intending to reveal
the mystery of the Chinese community (Bardhan, 186). She takes the white reader on a
gastronomic tour , and she describes Chinese meals, takes pain to explain the ritualistic
significance of certain meals and folks beliefs about the medicinal properties of certain
ingredients (Stefanovici,216). Jade Snow s undoubted connection to the Chinese heritage is
manifested in her endless employment of Chinese food cooking and recipes, and in her
descriptions of festivals and family rituals. Her self discovery voyage is reflected in her journey
through the various assortments of tastes of different Chinese dishes. From the very beginning of
the novel, she proclaims that she is very lucky to be born [as] a Chinese daughter (43). She states
that her Chinese background was [her] point of distinction (Wong, No

people and orphans, clothing for women and men.
I live in a country of Pakistan. And we have an Islamic religion. We usually do arrange marriages.
The marriage happened in the presence of the elders. They fix the date and meet with each other
family. Then they exchange gifts and sweets with each other. They make arrangements of
marriage by fixing the date. The groom and bride are not allowed to meet or talk with each
other. Sometimes the bride and groom has not seen each other. Then the date is fixed and
necessary arrangements are made for the bride and groom. All of the arrangements are made by
mostly the elders like the bride and groom close relatives. The purpose of the arrange marriages
with the elders permission is to make a long lasting relationship between the bride and the
groom. When the wedding is about to take place, several witnesses are there to evidence the
marriage. Then the bride and groom usually lives in the shelter of their parents or old relatives.

A Brief Note On Sweden And Finland And Sweden
Most developed countries have suffered through at least one financial crisis. The term financial
crisis is in itself very broad and applies to a various number of situations in which financial
institutions or financial assets rapidly decrease in value. In the late 1980 s and early 1990 s, the
Scandinavian countries along with Finland all faced rather serious financial crises, but the
outcomes differed vastly among the nations as Denmark and Swedenpushed through to fairly
satisfactory results, but Norway and Finland suffered greater complications. No nation s crisis
was identical to another s and perhaps thereof the different outcomes, but what other factors
played a role in deciding a nation s fate. To better compare and analyze, the focus of this paper
will be placed on simply two of the nations involved Sweden and Finland , two nations bordering
each other, with a great many similarities but two very different outcomes from respective crisis
and how they handled their respective issues, and what can be used for future reference.
American economist Richard G. Anderson (2009) has previously touched briefly on some of the
similarities among the Scandinavian nations crises, specifically referring to a common two stage
sequence in each of the countries. The two stage sequence, as Anderson explains, included rapidly
increasing economic growth accompanied by financial liberalization along with the introduction of
new financial instruments, followed by sharp

Comparing Hubris In Frankenstein And The Picture Of Dorian...
Hubris is clearly prominent in both novels and a major theme in gothic literature. Dorian Gray is
a novel obsessed with the aesthetic movement, Wilde clearly criticising the upper class Victorian
desire when Dorian exclaims: If it were I who was to be always young... (Ch.2. 29) Modern
readers are able to relate to this desire in a social media obsessed world where arguably beauty
can be powerful. The novel with hidden meaning beneath relates to Wilde s own need for discretion
in life trying to conceal his own homosexuality from the preying public eye. Thus possibly Wilde is
trying to present the idea that it is society s evil that turns the innocent into the corrupt, Dorian not

Yet different to The Picture of Dorian Grey, in the modern era the moral behind Frankenstein is
somewhat lost the monster becoming a childlike manifestation of Shelley s character. Arguably the
novel still professes the idea that in the modern era, minorities are undermined shunned by the
many. The only innocent character in Frankenstein is arguably Walton he narrating the novel in
epistolary form, Victor and the creature fighting head to head for the embedded narratives. Perhaps
this narrative reflects the distance of the characters, both Victor and the monster isolated from the
people and the world around them. This links them together at the end of the novel Frankenstein s
monster realising in his final monologue that: ...while I destroyed his (Victors) hopes, I did not
satisfy my own desires...still I desired love and fellowship. The monster has come to the
conclusion that he will never be fully accepted by society but understanding that society would

Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton Essay
Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton
Rumble Fish is a great book for teens to read. It is a book about younger teens joining gangs. The
main character in the book is Rusty James who is a high school boy that is in a gang and likes to
get into fights. Also there is a guy named the Motorcycle Boy who is Rusty s idol. Some minor
characters in the book include Steve who is the best friend of Rusty James, another character is
Smokey who is another good friend of Rusty James, also Biff who wanted to beat up Rusty James
because they are in different gangs, and always are looking to fight each other.

Bad things can happen to you if you don t have a knife in certain situations in his neighborhood.
For example, Rusty was in a fight with Biff and Biff had a knife but Rusty didn t have a knife.
Nobody in his gang had a knife, so Rusty lost. Then he met the Motorcycle Boy and everything
was back to normal until the big fight. Rusty got stabbed with the knife, and knocked out.
Usually the Motorcycle Boy would help him out, but instead he wasn t there, nowhere to be
seen. Rusty was put in the hospital for his stab wound. The main conflict in the story is Rusty
James, and his fighting all of the time. It isn t good for him or his reputation. Rusty usually wins
and someone always is looking to beat him at his own game, which is fighting, Rusty s specialty.
The conflict is resolved when Rusty James is in a fight against another greaser and the
Motorcycle Boy isn t there to save Rusty. After all of this happens, everyone starts making fun of
Rusty. The mysterious thing is that the Motorcycle Boy is never seen again. Now Rusty has no
friend s what so ever. And his gang lifestyle did not pay off at all. Instead of being cool he turned
out to be the fool in the story.
I would recommend this book to any teen. It is a great sequal to the Outsiders and has a lot of
action in it. It has the excitement of gangs but there is also a lesson to be learned in the story as
well. It does not set a good example for kids but it is exciting to read about. Over all I

Strategic Planning Requires Hard Work And Dedication
Strategic planning requires hard work and dedication. Nothing can be effectively executed without
a plan of action in place.
Blankstein (2004) states that:
Addressing the core beliefs of an entire school community is a lengthy process. It is essential to be
sure to hold the line on behaviors and language that may conflict with organizational values and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Villas
If you ve decided to look into independent villas in Chennai or are considering it, then it will prove
to be a great choice as Unitech has many new builds available. Chennai is an ideal place to live for
its many business opportunities, cultural activities, and tourist industry. Villas are a suitable option
whether you wantto invest, rent commercially, or make one your permanent home. As with any
large purchase or househunting, there are a lot of factors in place which should be thought through
carefully as they will affect your decision. They can be confusing at times but these are some of the
main ones to think through before you start your villa hunting journey:
1.What Will You Use it For?
While villas may look the same, the intended use will affect which one you choose. If it is for
investment then you should study up on the investment history of the area to see if it will pay off.
If it is to rent out to tourists then ask if it is close enough to the main tourist destinations and
accessible from the airport and train station. If it is for your own residential use then does it meet
the standards and requirements you need for your home, not just today but decades in the future?

Multinational Corporations Vs. Small And Medium...
The fundamental goal of every company is to maximise profit to make money. That is the main
reason people create businesses whether it be the large corporations or the small and medium
enterprises (SMEs). Because of gloablisation, firms are competing in a highly competitive market
where there is increasing pressure to find ways to perform better to get that above average returns.
However, there is one thing other than economies of scale that greatly disadvantage the SMEs from
the large multinational corporations (MNCs) and that is profit shifting. First of all, MNCs are
organisations that operate in more than one country. Profit shifting is when MNCs utilise the
differences in taxlaws to shift income to low tax affiliates and... Show more content on

In a journal article by Bartelsman and Beetsma (2000), they looked at the presence of profit
shifting in response to the disparity of the corporate tax rates among several OECD countries. They
used sectoral data as a method for their analysis. They have found that the magniture of profit
shifting is sufficiently great and worthy of attention. They estimate that a one percent unilateral
increase in tax rate will result in a three percent decline in corporate tax revenues, where the
organisation s profit is unchanged. Moreover, the researchers found that having stricter enforcement
in an already high tax jurisdiction will have a negative impact on their tax revenues and that real
activity is transferred to countries with lower tax rates or more lenient enforcement.
As mentioned previously, increasing pressures of competition and the goal of making more
profits are the reasons why organisations try to find ways to minimise their costs. However, profit
shifting is done because they saw the substantial disparity of corporate tax rates among countries
and thus, an opportunity to minimise costs (Bartelsman Beetsma, 2000; Holtzblatt et al., 2015).
Exhibit 1 shows the corporate tax rates in developed countries (see Appendix). Australia s
corporate tax rate is 30%, which is the 4th highest (tied with Mexico) among OECD countries,
where it is topped by the US at 35%, France at 34.43%, and Belgium at 33%. Holtzblatt et

then the obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about
life. This goes for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children
and doing household chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives
became miserable after having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text Footnotes to Youth , it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is
applied in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the
characters of the story had inner feelings within them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same,
as she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial
when Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn t believe that his
son was doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but
to give his blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation
of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is
found that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In
the short story Footnotes to Youth , it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed
female in Dodong s mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and
wanted to marry her. Tona was the anima in Blas mind as well. The statement he gave to his father,
Dodong, that he wanted her, suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within

The Tragic Hero Of Marcus Junius Brutus Minor Essay
Marina Senseney
Eng. ll / 4th block
October 27, 2015
Tragic hero
Marcus Junius Brutus Minor was the son of Marcus Junius Brutus Maior and Servilia Caepionis.
His father was killed by Pompey the Great in dubious circumstances after he had taken part in the
rebellion of Lepidus; his mother was the half sister of Cato the Younger, and later Julius Caesars
mistress. Some sources refer to the possibility of Caesar being his real father, despite Caesar s
being only 15 years old when Brutus was born. Brutus uncle, Quintus Servilius Caepio, adopted
him in about 59 BC, and Brutus was known officially for a time as Quintus Servilius Caepio
Brutus before he reverted to using his birth name. Following Caesar s assassination in 44 BC,
Brutus revived his adoptive name in order to illustrate his links to another famous tyrannicide,
Gaius Servilius Ahala, from whom he was descended. Brutus held his uncle in high regard and his
political career started when he became an assistant to Cato, during his governorship of Cyprus.
During this time, he enriched himself by lending money at high rates of interest. Brutus was also
active in the province of Cilicia, in the year before Cicero was proconsul there; Cicero documents
how Brutus profited from moneylending to the provincials in his Letters. He returned to Rome a
rich man, where he married Claudia Pulchra. From his first appearance in the Senate, Brutus
aligned with the Optimates (the conservative faction) against the First Triumvirate

Taxes In America Essay
Taxes are accumulated from the people for two main purposes in today s world. First, they are
used to provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second,
these taxes are used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful.
Taxes are a massive component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a
number of sufficient facilities to its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely
hard to fund the systems that are a necessity for society to operate as it should. Taxrates depend
upon a country s economic and social goals. In the following paragraphs, the views of America s
liberals, conservatives, and then my personal views on this topic will be shown.
American liberals prefer higher taxes; mostly focusing on taxing the wealthy people in our country.
Their belief is that higher taxes and a larger government are absolutely necessary to address
economic inequality and economic injustice in today s society. Their ideology states that higher
taxes would enable the government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe in lower taxes and a smaller government with very restricted power. If the
government is taxing its people less, these people will have more of the money that they earned
themselves. Therefore, this can create more of an incentive for people to save money, work, invest,
and engage in new business opportunities. Stefan Folster in his essay regarding the subject says, A
second reason why lower taxes may affect self employment is that lower taxes often imply lower
expenditure on unemployment benefits, early retirement benefits, and other subsides to non work.
To the extent that unemployment benefits are reduced, unemployed people who are constrained on
the labor market have greater incentives to become self employed. (2) Conservatives main belief,
at its core, is that money is best spent by those who truly earn

By using different type of project management tools you can determined which tools and
requirement that will be needed for the project. Project management has many tools available to
help with managing projects. The two that are talked about in the chapter are these; Program

Rather, a Gantt chart treats each activity as if it were independent of the others, which of course is
not really the case. For this reason, Gantt charts are better suited for systems implementation
projects that are not complex and have relatively few interrelationships among implementation
activities. (p.436)
It helps to look at the software as a framework that can be modified in hundreds of different ways
to support your organization s culture. If you have a disciplined organization with projects that are
well defined and stable, you can implement many system capabilities relatively quickly to
streamline and simplify formerly manual processes. However, if your organization is new to the
field of project management, you might have to introduce system features in several phases so that
the learning curve is not too steep. Another factor, which could be considered in planning the scope
and phasing of your implementation are the history and type of project. (informit.com) There are so
many different types of project management software that runs on desktop or notebook computers
can perform these tasks easily and quickly, can enable a project leader to plan and control
implementation tasks, and can help a team install a new system on time and within budget.
Examples of project management software solutions include SAP, Agile, Microsoft Project,
PlanBee, and Time Line.

Evaluation Of An Effective Teacher And Parent Is Positive
When a new concept is introduced, it needs to be reconciled with our previous ideas and
experience. We may need to change what we believe, but in any case, as educators we need to
remain receptive acceptors of new ideas and enhance our own knowledge. To do this, we must ask
questions, explore, and assess our shared similar experiences, as we observe each other and discuss
teaching methodologies. This type of inquiry helps us improve by strengthening connections among
us, the educators. We are encouraged to create stimulating discussions about our professional
practices, thereby, building on one another s expertise. To discover solutions and address the needs
of our students, we need continuous inquiry and contemplative dialogue. Much of the current
thought is that a continuing relationship between parents and teachers requires a commitment to
practice effective communication, yet what happens is sometimes is the back and forth verbal
intended message is miscommunicated. It is critical that in the initial interaction between a teacher
and parent is positive. This means that in order to develop an effective parent/teacher relationship,
do not enter the communication relationship with any negative preconceived feelings, as this will
hinder the teacher and the parent relationship thus unable then to function as a team. When both
parties are communicating and focusing not what each other is saying but rather on your next
comment or even incorrectly anticipating what the

finds solace when he explores the land outside of the New Dawn Centre. One night, Saul begins
to see the shape of a man moving towards him with a horse trailing behind him and Saul quickly
realizes that it is his great grandfather, Shabogeesick. Shabogeesick is accompanied by many of
Saul s direct family members: Benjamin, Mary, John, and Naomi. Saul states, I was looking at a
man I knew was my great grandfather...I saw my father, my mother. My brother...My
grandmother. I wept at the sight of them...the old man lifted my grandmother up onto the horses
back. My family walked slowly into the depths of the fog, and I could hear them singing as they
retreated (Wagamese 193). Shabogeesick appears to Saul at his breaking point. Prior to his time at
the New Dawn Centre, Saul had abused alcohol to the point of death and attempts to withdraw
from alcohol with the help of his counsellor, Moses. At this point in the New Dawn Centre, Saul

Functionalist Theory Vs Conflict Theory

1.Summarize the key difference between functionalists and conflict theories of deviance.
In our society, the functionalists and conflict theorists are always hard at work. Their approach to
understanding society is very different from each other. A functionalist tends to take a theoretical
approach, seeing society as an interlocking structure. This structure is designed to supply the needs
of everyone in the society. On the other hand, a conflict theorist looks at a society in a last man
standing point of view. They see the society as constantly competing for resources. Therefore, when
it comes to deviance, they take two different stances on the situation. When one thinks about ...

Many controversies reflect disagreement between those who maintain a traditional definition of
the family as a household anchored by a married, heterosexual couple and those who conceive of
families more broadly. (Gerson) The once common heterosexual married couple with kids is
being replaced by same sex couples, cohabiting couples, and single parents, which are all
common place across the United States. Along with these changes comes the gender role
changes of both parents working outside of the house, which was very untypical 30 40 years
ago. The traditional family is disappearing, Growing family diversity has prompted analysts to
question the empirical accuracy of structural functional theories. (Gerson) Single parents are
also on the rise, with numbers climbing daily, years ago single parents were only single because
of being widowed. Same sex couples were the least common of all, and are still not extremely
prominent, however, they are on the rise. Cohabiting households were also very uncommon,
many people believed it wrong to live with someone before marriage, therefore people often
lived at home or alone until they were married. Same sex couple were simply non existent, and
are just now legally able to marry; and they are still facing a lot of controversy over this new
found right. What was once so common, is no longer common at all. With time, the idea that a
family must consist of a married male and female

Essay about Good vs. Evil in Psycho
Psycho
Psycho is a classic suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock which features a central female
protagonist, a seemingly ordinary young woman named Marion Crane, who crosses paths with a
dangerous mentally ill motel owner, Norman Bates. As their strange relationship develops, a
dominant theme of good versus evil is introduced to the audience through the use of
characterisation, editing, mise en scene and various other media techniques.
From the outset, Hitchcock introduces an initial theme of good versus evil during the opening
credits. The title scene could be seen as a reflection of the personality of Norman Bates as the credits
themselves are presented as fragmented titles which come together as one on the screen but then ...

In a similar shot, only half of his face is shown and this clearly symbolises the fact that only one
half of him can ever be fully good at any one time the other half will always remain evil.
However, sympathy is also evoked for Norman in this scene as we see that his mother takes an
instant dislike to Marion something which you would not normally see between two strangers.
We see how close and slightly strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the
unnatural dependence they have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current
situation and making him seem like a good person. A similar effect is used throughout the scene
in Norman s parlour by with the use of light and dark as the lighting picks out significant features
such as only one side of Norman s face and the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its
wings spread signifies his mother controlling his mind and shows that she is ever present,
although we never see her, even when he is behaving normally she will always be inside his
mind, therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards him as he has no control over his
actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that Norman is a predator and the
owl is his equal. Like the owl, many other birds are featured in the parlour scene, linking back to
the recurring theme. Framing Marion next to them when she first enters the room makes her seem
vulnerable and presents her as equal

The Benefits Of Organic Farming
As we have been discussing in class, the debate on organic food has been rising. Many say that it
is the way of the future, while many others say it is going back to the ways of the past. When
synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things
in farming today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be
possible for organic farmers compete with them? If organic farmingwere to become the go to
method of farming, we have to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? While there may be
many ways to answer this question while looking at different aspects of the organic movement and
their definitions, one answer in particular jumped out at me. Organic farming is not globally
sustainable because it is not efficient enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the
top issues when it comes to farming today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on
their land when using certain practices and products. For this reason, it is important to remember
that organic and conventional farming both require extensive work to maintain their products and
to provide for the consumer. As we have seen in Steven Shapin s essay What Are You Buying
When You Buy Organic , in where he references Michael Pollan talking about Asparagus, which
had been grown in Argentina, [and] air freighted six thousand miles to the States (433) , the role of
the consumer is not limited to those in

Analysis Of Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee
How to train your human In 1889 Mark Twain s publishes A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s
Court, which is consider the first science fiction novel. Like most science fiction stories, there is
time travel and futuristic technology messing with the past. Hank Morgan is sent into the past after
getting knocked unconscious by a man named Hercules with a crowbar. After realizing that he is in
the past, he uses his knowledge of an impending solar eclipse to trick the masses into making him
the second most powerful man in society. Being an educated 19th century American gentleman,
Hank believes it is up to him to make Arthurian England more like 19th century American. He tries
to change the beliefs of the people and introduces 19th century technology. In the end, Hank fails in
his quest to completely change everything about Arthurian England. Mark Twains usage of humor
combined with Hank s attempts to change Arthurian technology, religious beliefs and social
structure, exemplifies that human s beliefs are trained into them, which ultimately demonstrates
that society can not change without the training of a new generation.
Humor is used in order to conceal the weakness in superstitious beliefs. Like many satires, A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court does not blatantly announce its theme. Twain uses
humor [to] disarm the reader, but if the reader is careful they can see the darker sides of the humor
(Berkove 243). The main catalyst for humors is the famous magician

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Food Deserts Eradicating food deserts has definitely become a significant issue in food and nutrition guidelines and programs across the entire nation. As part of her Let s Move! campaign, Michelle Obama was a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat milk, and other foods that make up a full and healthy diet (CDC Features). This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers markets, and healthy food... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a New York Times article, Michelle Obama once stated, In so many neighborhoods, if people want to buy a head of lettuce or salad or some fruit for their kid s lunch, they have to take two or three buses, maybe pay for a taxicab, in order to do it (Kolata). She was referring to the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs. Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. Even when these food deserts do have access to nearby convenience stores, it tends to be either overpriced or low quality food, which carry mostly processed foods that offer little to no nutritional value, when compared to the food and products that supermarkets have to offer. Adding on to this, those who depend on food stamps also have limited options when it comes to nutritious food. This makes it even harder for these people to live a healthy affordable ... • 3. Romanticism In It Happened One Night As the rise of cinema in the usa, came two of a great movies of their own time which captures the public interest but in different ways. It happened one night (1934), Citizens kane (1941), are both interesting and different in terms of social issues and also as filming and using technology at the time of the release. It happened one night by Frank Capra, came out in depression era (1934) with its humor, sexiness and wisdom characteristics. The movie tells a romantic story where a spoiled girl runs away from her rich dad and falls in love with news reporter. American comedies of 1930s presented marriage and courtship as a vaudeville act, and love is indeed equaled with role playing throughout It Happened One Night . Donut dunking scene mid way through the movie shows a perfect example of romanticism and shows the passion the two characters started to have toward one another. They fell in love but did not sleep together until marriage and meanwhile until they get to New york they used the famous blanket wall to keep the intensions away from someone just looking for sex and rather to someone sweet and caring which made the audience fall more in love with the story. The movie also shows the story taking place in depression era by showing a mother passing out from hunger and her son telling the story of their hardship that makes viewer s grab at their heartstrings. In terms of film techniques, Frank Capra s innovative filming and editing techniques made the movie drastically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Strong, Democratic Stand Point, By Bernie Sanders Through a strong, democratic stand point, Bernie Sanders has one of the strongest resolutions to immigration. Being in a family of immigrants himself, Sanders understands a lot of viewpoints from the immigrants. To solve these problems, Bernie has come up with an elaborate, six step plan. This plan covers making it easier to get a visa, making it easier to bring your family when you immigrate, and making equal and fair trade rights. This plan will be a major step towards solving the task at hand. However there are in fact some opposing, credibility issues. Bernie s main goal is to make it easier to attain visas, and become naturalized. Senator Sanders wants to help the immigrant s complete citizenship and visas quickly, without giving the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The base of this thriving economy is that we send enormous factories, and farms to other countries. America takes advantage of the low prices that other countries will work for. America fires their own strong workers, who want more money, for the cheap labor. In Guatemala, a little over 60% of the population is living under the poverty line, and the other 40% isn t much over. Poverty is no joke and a tragic issue that Bernie will fight to develop in not only America, but Mexico, Central America, and China. In order to accomplish a change, laws need to be put in place that will create more fair trade policies, and ways to make sure they are absolutely being implemented. The tremendous amount of immigrants coming to America are coming for two reasons, to escape poverty and escape a low quality of life. When in their own country, most of the immigrants can t afford food every day, because of something that America has done to them. This will be a major accomplishment to solve fair trade issues. An argument that goes along with fair trade issues, is the exploitation of immigrants. When immigrants come here to get a better life, the American companies that hire them, take advantage. America pays them less, and treats them unfairly. Creating a reform to keep employers from abusing their workers will help to continue a healthy flow of immigrants, and healthy working conditions. Sanders wants a safe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Joseph M. Juran s Life Joseph M. Juran lived a long life comprised of many accomplishments. Using his natural gifts of intelligence, Juran went from being a poor immigrant to being known for his quality control expertise. He has also been known as the father of quality, and even a quality guru. This paper gives insight into Jurans life and how he was able to work his way up to his many accomplishments. Joseph was born in Braila, Romania in December of 1904. Five years later his father, Jakob Juran, departed Romania and came to the United States in order better the life of his family. Three years pass by and Joseph s father had finally earned enough money to bring his family to the United States. The Juran family decided to settle down in Minneapolis, Minnesota and even though they were very hopeful, poverty still took control of their lives. During his childhood, Joseph surprisingly excelled at learning. He was so far ahead of the average students that he eventually skipped the equivalent of four grade levels (Joseph M. Juran, 2000). In 1920, Joseph enrolled at the University of Minnesota and a short four years later graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After returning to school, about a decade later, Joseph received a J.D. in Law at Loyola University in 1935. In 1924, soon after graduation, Joseph started working at Western Electric. • 6. Comparing A Dystopian Society In Fahrenheit 451 And Night In two stories from different decades have one similarity in common. They both are stories that show and take place within a dystopian society. The book Fahrenheit 451 is the story of a firefighter that lives in a dystopian society that does not allow books to read for a source of media. Along with the book Night, a teenage boy named Elie who lived through the Holocaust. Even though that the Holocaust was an actual event in our world s history, it is still considered a dystopian society. Despite the thoughts of many individuals within these dystopian societies, the governments try to take over and control these persons thoughts on the way society works. The two books Fahrenheit 451and Night are similar in many ways, because of the fact that both governments try to control the way the people within them live. The first similarity is the rules and regulations that these people are living with. In Fahrenheit 451 there were rules that any person who had any type of book in their possession were to be imprisoned or even killed in some circumstances. These rules were to protect the government from being overthrown by the fantasies that these books create and give some type of a better life for the people. • 7. Symbolism In Fahrenheit 451 Analysis Andrei Tarkovsky said, A literary work can only be received through symbols, through concepts for that is what words are . In Fahrenheit 451 s society, the reading of books is illegal and punishable by death. The protagonist Guy Montag stands against the burning of the books and attempts to be happy with his life, even though he is a fireman. Ray Bradbury, uses many literary devices in his story, but the most important device is symbolism. In Fahrenheit 451, a handful of symbols advance the plot by giving the novel a deeper meaning that what appears on the surface. Each symbol included in the Fahrenheit 451 is a piece of Guy Montag s life that is helping his journey. In part one of Fahrenheit 451, the first symbol to appear is the hand. When Bradbury mentions Montag s hands, he is foreshadowing that the hand will become an important metaphor throughout the book His hands had been infected, and soon it would be his arms. He could feel the poison working up his wrists and into his elbows and his shoulders, and then the jump over from shoulder blade to shoulder blade like a spark leaping a gap (Bradbury 38). The spark of doing what is right is moving from Montag s hands to his entire body. He states that his hands were ravenous and were hungering for books. Montag does not know why he is stealing the books, but his hand is moving without any thought. Before he begins to question society, Montag s hands are the force that carries him through his workday. They pump the kerosene and light the torch while Montag holds a unmoving smile on his face. When he steals the books, he says that his hands are acting upon themselves with curiosity. His hand represents that Montag is thirsting for a knowledge that only books can provide. Montag, unlike Mildred, is not satisfied with the knowledge that is given from the televisions and society. Montag s hands symbolize his consciousness to do what is right and the force that is pushing him to search for knowledge. For the firemen in Fahrenheit 451, the idea of spreading a fire that consumes knowledge and culture is a great feeling. It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed. With the brass novel in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Juliana has a crush on Bryce, while Bryce thinks Juliana is annoying. Juliana is always trying to help Bryce, but Bryce is always trying to stay away from her. There are many ways that can happen, people can act like they are their friend but reality is the opposite. In the book Flipped, from Bryce s perspective, it mentions, All I ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone (Van Draanen 1). This explains Bryce s thoughts of Juliana in the beginning of the book. One key event in the story is the moment Bryce moved into the neighborhood. The moment Bryce moved into the neighborhood Juliana was enthusiastic. But Bryce was fearful the moment he met her. Juliana has no idea that Bryce has harsh feelings for her, but Bryce knows exactly how Juliana feels about him. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries. Focus on Interests Good agreements focus on the parties interests, rather than their positions. As Fisher and Ury explain, Your position is something you have decided upon. Your interests are what caused you to so decide. [p. 42] Defining a problem in terms of positions means that at least one party will lose the dispute. • 16. A Brief Note On Work And Life Balance Work and Life balance has become a consequential topic about a few decades ago up until today. Work life balance was originally derived in the 1970 s to refer to the balance that exists in one s professional life and personal one (Newman Matthews, 1999). In the past decade or so, there has sparked a curiosity in the work life balance realm. More and more studies and research came about on the topic and attracted the attention of scholars, the government, press, etc. This increase in curiosity could be driven by the worry that a lack of adequate work life balance could spillover into health and even lower productivity for organizations. Today, we see that most people are working harder and longer than they ever were which makes it nearly unimaginable to attain that crucial work life balance. Having a sustainable work life balance means that there occurs adequate work functioning as well as the home with there being little to no role conflict (Sturges Guest, 2004). Sturges and Guest (2004) also discuss that there are graduates that are pulled into situations where they have to work lengthy hours which inevitably leads to a poor balance in the work and life aspect. At the core foundation of this, work life balance characteristics are contingent upon the various communicationmethods that occur in one s organization. Having both formal and informal forms of communication, are crucial for both mentally and physically in order to be happy in the workplace. This paper focuses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact the creator of the South Beach Diet, Dr. Arthur Agatston, provides a website where subscribers can ask questions and read up on new changes. Critics of the diet argue that the diet does not stress exercise as much as it should. Dr. Agatston states that only 20 minutes of exercise a day is enough while on this diet. The critics argue that of those trying to lose weight, 20 minutes is not enough; especially for those who are already out of shape (Mercola Vaszily, 2007). His rise to power made the Cold War virtually impossible to avoid. The traditional, orthodox interpretation places the responsibility of the Cold War on Stalin s personality and on communist ideology. It claims that as long as Stalin and the authoritarian government were in power, a cold war was unavoidable. It argues that Stalin violated agreements that he had made at Yalta, imposed Soviet policy on Eastern European countries aiming at political domination and conspired to advocate communism throughout the world. As a result, United States officials were forced to respond to Soviet aggression with foreign policies such as the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. Yet revisionists argue that there was no proof of Stalin promoting communism outside Russia and that Stalin s decisions were first and foremost, pro Soviet and not of communist intentions. That daily shave is neither the best shave nor the most economical shave possible. Those honors belong to the traditional shaving equipment that is now making a comeback. A beginner will find that a good double edge safety razor, a badger hair brush and some face friendly soap will soon become his best friends in the bathroom. The Benefits of Safety Razors The first issue to consider is the cost. Typical cheap disposable razors must be replaced often. Cartridge refills for multi blade razors generally cost around twenty dollars for eight. That works out to two dollars and fifty cents apiece. Contrast this with a twenty cent razor blade. A pack of 100 blades generally sells for less than a pack of cartridge refills. If you use two blades a week then you have spent the same amount for a year s worth of blades that would have only bought you eight cartridges. That s quite a savings. Now consider the shave. A standard razor requires you to push the many blades into your skin to get a good shave. This is because these blades are designed to be as safe as they can be for as many people as possible. A double razor is adjusted to your own perfect angle. This means that the blade need not be shoved into your skin. Instead, you set your perfect angle. That is the main reason people create businesses whether it be the large corporations or the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Because of gloablisation, firms are competing in a highly competitive market where there is increasing pressure to find ways to perform better to get that above average returns. However, there is one thing other than economies of scale that greatly disadvantage the SMEs from the large multinational corporations (MNCs) and that is profit shifting. First of all, MNCs are organisations that operate in more than one country. Profit shifting is when MNCs utilise the differences in taxlaws to shift income to low tax affiliates and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a journal article by Bartelsman and Beetsma (2000), they looked at the presence of profit shifting in response to the disparity of the corporate tax rates among several OECD countries. They used sectoral data as a method for their analysis. They have found that the magniture of profit shifting is sufficiently great and worthy of attention. They estimate that a one percent unilateral increase in tax rate will result in a three percent decline in corporate tax revenues, where the organisation s profit is unchanged. Moreover, the researchers found that having stricter enforcement in an already high tax jurisdiction will have a negative impact on their tax revenues and that real activity is transferred to countries with lower tax rates or more lenient enforcement. As mentioned previously, increasing pressures of competition and the goal of making more profits are the reasons why organisations try to find ways to minimise their costs. However, profit shifting is done because they saw the substantial disparity of corporate tax rates among countries and thus, an opportunity to minimise costs (Bartelsman Beetsma, 2000; Holtzblatt et al., 2015). Exhibit 1 shows the corporate tax rates in developed countries (see Appendix). The Tragic Hero Of Marcus Junius Brutus Minor Essay Marina Senseney Eng. ll / 4th block October 27, 2015 Tragic hero Marcus Junius Brutus Minor was the son of Marcus Junius Brutus Maior and Servilia Caepionis. His father was killed by Pompey the Great in dubious circumstances after he had taken part in the rebellion of Lepidus; his mother was the half sister of Cato the Younger, and later Julius Caesars mistress. Some sources refer to the possibility of Caesar being his real father, despite Caesar s being only 15 years old when Brutus was born. Brutus uncle, Quintus Servilius Caepio, adopted him in about 59 BC, and Brutus was known officially for a time as Quintus Servilius Caepio Brutus before he reverted to using his birth name. Following Caesar s assassination in 44 BC, Brutus revived his adoptive name in order to illustrate his links to another famous tyrannicide, Gaius Servilius Ahala, from whom he was descended. Brutus held his uncle in high regard and his political career started when he became an assistant to Cato, during his governorship of Cyprus. During this time, he enriched himself by lending money at high rates of interest. Brutus was also active in the province of Cilicia, in the year before Cicero was proconsul there; Cicero documents how Brutus profited from moneylending to the provincials in his Letters. He returned to Rome a rich man, where he married Claudia Pulchra. We may need to change what we believe, but in any case, as educators we need to remain receptive acceptors of new ideas and enhance our own knowledge. To do this, we must ask questions, explore, and assess our shared similar experiences, as we observe each other and discuss teaching methodologies. We are encouraged to create stimulating discussions about our professional practices, thereby, building on one another s expertise. To discover solutions and address the needs of our students, we need continuous inquiry and contemplative dialogue. Much of the current thought is that a continuing relationship between parents and teachers requires a commitment to practice effective communication, yet what happens is sometimes is the back and forth verbal intended message is miscommunicated. It is critical that in the initial interaction between a teacher and parent is positive. However, sympathy is also evoked for Norman in this scene as we see that his mother takes an instant dislike to Marion something which you would not normally see between two strangers. We see how close and slightly strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the unnatural dependence they have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current situation and making him seem like a good person. A similar effect is used throughout the scene in Norman s parlour by with the use of light and dark as the lighting picks out significant features such as only one side of Norman s face and the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its wings spread signifies his mother controlling his mind and shows that she is ever present, although we never see her, even when he is behaving normally she will always be inside his mind, therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards him as he has no control over his actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that Norman is a predator and the owl is his equal. When synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things in farming today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be possible for organic farmers compete with them? If organic farmingwere to become the go to method of farming, we have to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? Organic farming is not globally sustainable because it is not efficient enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the top issues when it comes to farming today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on their land when using certain practices and products. For this reason, it is important to remember that organic and conventional farming both require extensive work to maintain their products and to provide for the consumer.
