What Is Discrimination In The Workplace
Charlotte Bunch said, Sexual, racial, gender violence and other forms of discrimination and violence
in a culture cannot be eliminated without changing culture (www.brainyquote.com). Even in the years
since Dr. Martin Luther King s, I Had a Dream Speech, society has not changed enough for
discrimination to end. Each day gets closer to a discrimination free world, but it has not been
completed yet. Discrimination in Mice and Men by John Steinbeck showed plenty of discrimination,
just as today does in sports, business, and education.
First of all, Sports shows many examples of discrimination in modern society. For example, women
have less of an opportunity to play sports in college. The author states, Nationwide, female college

For example, students are restricted from worshipping during school. Roleff said, While the court had
no objection to moments of silence, it did object to students being asked or told to pray to themselves
during the moment of silence (Roleff 12). Students are not allowed to pray to themselves when the
school has a moment of silence. Also, the students are discriminated against. The author said, public
schools split boys and girls into different classrooms ( Single Sex Schooling 1). Students are forced to
be in different rooms in the school because their gender. Lastly, students race make them
discriminated against in education. Patrick McNeil said, Too often, school districts with higher
enrollments of students of color invents thousands of dollars less per student than those districts with
predominantly white enrollments ( New Education Guidance 1). Rather than schools putting equal
money into all students success, white students have more money put to their success, compared to
colored students. Altogether, discrimination in education

The Gender Trap

The Gender Trap
Book Review
California State University, Bakersfield
Kristen Gibson
October 14, 2015
Gender issues have recently hit the surface pretty hard and has made life changing impacts, nationally.
Some political topics have been on same sex marriage and restrooms for transgendered students. The
nation is divided in regards to gender issues. The recent awareness has forced the government to step
in and back up laws that are for and against these issues. Analyzing our lives on a daily basis seems
easy, but after reading The Gender Trap: Parents and Pitfalls of Raising Boys and Girls by Emily
Kane, I didn t realize how much I actually gender my children and how it could affect them in the
future. Interviews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her interviews are of 42 people with different races, social economic backgrounds, homosexuals and
heterosexuals of children. As Kane begins her book, she goes in depth of the study and what she
proposes with her findings. First, she takes a stand that gender is a social term and not biological as I
have always looked at it. Gender and power also are found to be related as agreed with Kimmel s
textbook, The Gendered Society. He mentions only white people in our society have the luxury not to
think about race every minute of their lives. And only men have the luxury to pretend that gender does
not matter. She is able to grasp a stand from her interviews and is able to explain how females are
socially excluded by the way the parents treat them and how this has led to a larger social problem
with gender discrimination that includes wage gap and even domestic violence. Males have seemed to
benefit from the power that has been given to them by society who engages in the marginalization of
women. Now, it seems males are heavily burdened when it comes to the talk about gender differences.
Chapter 1 includes the pre birth stage of gendering children. After I told my family we were having a
female they threw me a surprise baby shower that included everything pink, so before she was even
born she was given a gender. All the parents were able to say what gender they preferred for their
child and why. The reasoning behind the gender preference can be very exciting and

Gender Roles And Expectations In The Canterbury Tales

Gender Roles and Expectations in Medieval Society as seen through The Canterbury Tales In the
Middle Ages, society established many roles and expectations of both men and women. These sought
after characteristics exist in the literature of the time, none more recognized than Geoffrey Chaucer s
The Canterbury Tales. The Canterbury Tales offers valuable insight on many aspects of medieval
society including what culture thought of as the model person. In medieval Europe, society depended

The Wife is unequivocally different to almost all other women in the Middle Ages ...Having already

who society obviously sees as wrong, but the Wife does not care for the Wife believes that there
should not be anything wrong with having had five husbands and goes against society s views by
interrupting the bible as telling women to go forth and multiply. In the Wife s tale the Wife discusses
the question of What does every woman desire ? The answer to this question is ...women most desire
sovereignty over their husbands (Bath s). The Wife s tale stood for everything society thought of as
wrong and also going against society s norms, the church s views of women and offering a different

Public Opinion On The Obamacare Act
Ajibola Yinka PO 326 Politics and public policy Adriana Buliga Stoian 20th November, 2015.
PUBLIC OPINION What is/are Public Opinion? Public opinion is an important aspect of democracy.
ThisS is the view(s) commonly held among the general public. These are sets of attitude that shapes a
group which either helps improve the quality or efficiency of an issue or agenda. The article puts forth
its thesis as the influence of systematic issue attention cycle which strongly influences public attitude
and behavior concerning most domestic problems. The public engage in election and choose their
representative/leader, therefore; they have the right to voice out their opinion on certain issues. Public
opinion is a form of political participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stage is the Pre Problem age. This occurs when some highly undesirable social condition
exists but has not captured much public attention even though some groups might be aware of it.
Traits arising from this stage are that the interest groups declare a problem. The second stage is the
alarmed discovery and euphoric enthusiasm. Here, the public suddenly becomes both aware of and
alarmed about the evils of a particular problem. The discovery is accompanied by the society s ability
to solve the problem or do something effective within a short span of time. Traits arising from this
issue is that public experience negative consequences of unhealthy environment e.g. Flooding. The
third stage is Realizing the cost of significant progress. It consists of gradually spreading realization
that the cost of solving the problem is very high indeed. Engaging in this will not only take a lot of
money but also requires major sacrifices by large groups in the population. A major trait at this stage is
that it has high cost clause and involves many sacrifices. The fourth stage is the gradual decline of
intense public interest. The third stage becomes gradually transformed into the fourth stage. There is a
gradual decline in the intensity of public interest interest in the environmental problem. As more

The Article Fear, Romance, And Transience
The article called Fear, romance, and transience in the lives of homeless women by Radley, Hodgetts
and Cullen was a thought provoking article. I did not grow up in a neighborhood where homeless
people were present, nevertheless; I have learned many assumptions about homeless people through
what I have seen, my family s guidance and by watching numerous television shows and news reports
on television and on the radio. Since these assumptions have been embedded in my life it has become
a norm for me to think about homeless people as different from other humans who are not homeless.
Since I was a child, my parents would always tell me to never talk to strangers and ignore the
homeless because they are dangerous, dirty and poor people. From a young age it was evident that
homeless people were not like everyone else and they should be treated differently. The only place I
have been that has homeless people present is Toronto. I rarely visit Toronto but when I do, I only see
homeless males who usually have beards with low hygiene. In reference to the article this image does
reflect the over representation of men among the street homeless (Radley et al. P. 437. 2006). Now
whenever I go to Toronto and see a man matching this description on the streets I automatically
assume he is homeless. I also assume homeless people are intoxicated. I learned this assumption
because many of the times I have been to Toronto the homeless people are stumbling around. For
example, I went

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION AS COMPARED TO
TODAY S FINANCIAL CRISIS
ABSTRACT The financial crisis which the United States is combating today, in many aspects
resembles the characteristics and consequences which were the outcome of the Great Depression
lasting from the time period 1929 till 1933 (Great Depression). The Great Depression of earlier times
and the financial crisis of the current times from 2003 2008 will be studied in depth in the following

Oct. 5, 2007 to a low of 10,267 on Monday, before gaining a little to Friday s close of 10,325. The
stagnant incomes in 1929 observed a 4 percent drop in inflation adjusted disposable income of
agricultural workers whereas the top bracket class observed a steady gain whereas in 2008 (Waggoner
J, 2008), inflation adjusted income for middle class workers dripped by 1 percent. The concentration
of wealth in 1929 was mainly in the hands of stock speculators (Tomkins L M, 2008) whereby the
richest 1 percent of Americans owned approximately 40 percent of the country s wealth. However the
current figures reveal that in 2008 the richest 0.1 percent of Americans constitutes only 11.6 percent of
the total nation s income (Calbreath D, 2008). As per the information given by Amity Shale s in her

unemployment rate had increased to over 23% whereas in the current times it s just 5%.
GOVERNMENT BOND RATES Stocks performed very badly during the Great Depression but on the
contrary government bonds did fairly well. During depression Bond prices did rise tremendously as
bond yields came down sharply. For example, the prime corporate bond output level fell from 4.59%

The Impact Of The Emancipation Proclamation
Although there were more than four million slaves living in the U.S. at this time, the Emancipation
Proclamation did not formally free a single one of them. So that presents us with a couple of very
interesting questions: first, why did Lincoln issue the proclamation if it had no practical effect?
Second, why is the Emancipation Proclamation considered Lincoln s most important legacy if it didn t
actually free anyone? Washington D.C., summer 1862. The Civil War had been going on for over a
year, and it was not going well for Abraham Lincoln. 11 of the 15 southern states where slavery was
legal had formed the Confederate States of America (CSA) and were waging a war to break free from
the United States. Lincoln was determined that the nation was not going to fall apart on his watch.
During the first year of the civil war, the Confederate Army had won the majority of important battles.
When Lincoln became president, he had had no intention of abolishing slavery. Though he personally
despised slavery and had won the presidency on an anti slavery platform, he would gladly have given
up any chance of ending slavery in the South if it meant that the Confederate states would rejoin the
United States. With no hope of bringing the South back into the United States by protecting slavery,
Lincoln had a new dilemma. His own political party, the Republicans, had formed around their
opposition to slavery. Many of the more radical politicians in the party saw the secession of the South
as the best opportunity to abolish slavery once and for all. As the US war dead piled up, more and
more Northerners began to push Lincoln to punish the states that had seceded by making abolition a
major goal of the war. The problem with abolishing slavery, however, was that there were still four
slave states that had not seceded from the United States: Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, and
Delaware. Lincoln feared that if he advocated emancipation he would provoke those states into joining
the Confederacy, making the war even more difficult to win. Of the border states, Maryland was
particularly worrisome, because the US capital at Washington D.C. sat on its border with Virginia. If
Maryland decided to join the Confederacy, Washington D.C.

Achieved Statuses In Sports
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! I roll over and shut off my alarm. My body aches from the lack of sleep and
yesterday s workout. I threw on my gym clothes and headed out the door. There was work to be done.
Almost everyone belongs to some particular group and claims an achieved status. An achieved status
is a status that is earned or chose. One of my achieved statuses is baseball. Being on the baseball team,
or any club in that matter, requires a big time commitment and a lot is expected. My role or what is
expected of me is weights, and keeping the required skills for baseball throughout the Fall and Winter
are required. When the season rolls around, my coach expects that I make the routine plays and hit the
ball hard the entire length of the season. My role performance or the things I actually do for this role
are both strength and baseball workouts to keep in shape during the off season. I do my best to hit the
ball and make the routine plays but baseball is a game of failure and things do not always work out. I
have also experienced role conflict in baseball. Role conflict is when a person is supposed to play two
incompatible roles. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Horrid Irrationality Of War
War, it is a controversial topic that people from all over the world argue about. Some may advise war
is needed, while others may claim it is irrational. Despite what one may ponder, people have a
different viewpoint on war, it has been a part of this world since the beginning of time. Conflicts have,
and will continue to arise from time to time and compromises are sometimes just not a solution. War is
morally justifiable, to a certain extent, to solve occurring disputes.
Although one may believe that war is morally justifiable, others may ponder upon the fact that it is
not. For instance, James Boswell states my mind expanded itself in reflections upon the horrid
irrationality of war. in his essay On War . Those who may have the same mindset

Valve Steams Ahead
Introduction The 21st century rapidly changed society putting forth new opportunities and demands in
a quest for a better future. With these elaborate changes particularly regarding the current
sophistication of technology, the workplace has also been propelling forward particularly focusing on
the way in which they are governed. An organisational structure is the process of arranging people and
other resources to work together to accomplish a goal (Schermerhorn, 2011). However, what happens
when there is no organisational structure? This is the theme of the Valve Steams Ahead case study in
which this report is assessing. Using peer reviewed sources and other research, an analysis will be
made of Valve Software s operations regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Valve Steams Ahead case study shows that Valve Software does not have an
organisational chart or training programs for new employees. They are simply given the staff
handbook that is administered to each new employee. This handbook describes how the structure
works, picking your own projects, office hours, peer reviews, steps taken after your first 6 months,
hiring new staff and the weaknesses of the company (Handbook for New Employees). This lack of
structure within the company makes it hard for people to develop mentors and become accustomed to
the social aspects of the company which is only translated through existing employees. This affects the
hiring of new staff as some talented people who are perfect for the organisation prefer to work within
a formal organisational structure. Recommendations In order for Valve Software to improve their
hiring of new staff and the initial training and development of employees, a few steps must be taken
which are modified from formal organisational structures. Firstly, regarding the hiring of new staff,
standardised personality testing should become a part of the day to day hiring procedures. Personality
testing will distinguish between the right and wrong people for the job in relation to the atmosphere
and co workers within the company. With an organisational structure such as the one at Valve

The United States President Should Not Be Limited
Thesis: Should the United States President be Limited to the Terms of Service in Office? In this paper,
I will argue that the United States president should not be limited to two terms in office. The rational
for two terms has been to prevent abuse of power. My argument is based on the benefits of unlimited
presidential terms and the hindrance of limited terms on the United States economy. An important
element to consider is the role democracy plays on presidential terms and elections. The respect of
human rights is a significant attribute in a democratic environment and economy. Democracy allows
the rights of citizens to be respected, such as an individual s speech, religion or ethnicity. In a
democratic economy every citizen has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1947 Senator Claude argued I think our people are to be safely trusted with their own destiny. This
is exactly what democracy gives the people of United States, a sense of security that the power to
select their leader is in their hands. If the people are limited in how many terms the can elect a
president, does that not defeat the purpose of democracy? Or if anything conflicts with the sole aim of
democracy giving power to the people. Senator Claude also said We do not need to protect the
American people with a prohibition against a president whom they do not wish to elect; and if they
wanted to elect him, have we the right to deny them the power? The answer to that statement should
be no, because a democratic government should not reflect any characteristics of a totalitarian
government whatsoever. And denying the people their wish who they wish to elect only reflects that.
Why prevent a presidential administration from reelection if the rate of effectiveness is high and
beneficial to the economy? When elected in to office each president brings for an agenda, which is a
list of adequacies to improve the country. Some Presidents successfully accomplished their intended
goal at the end of their presidential term, some appear to be completely unsuccessful. And others leave
the presidential office with a completely effective plan that appears to die because they cannot

Symptoms And Treatment Of Postoperative Surgery
Introduction
Most of patients are hoping to see well without spectacle or contact lenses. So in last years the
refractive surgery increased in patients dissatisfied with spectacles and contact lenses either due to
quality of vision, cosmetic appearance or difficulties in contact lenses wearing and its complications.
corneal surgeries like corneal ablation ( photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser assisted in situ
keratomileusis LASIK) and different types of phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation either in the
anterior or posterior chamber and the anterior chamber either iris claw or angle fixation IOL aim to
correct s refractive errors in myopic patients [1,2].
Corneal surgeries, such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and LASIK, have many limitations and
contraindications especially for the correction of high refractive errors. Postoperative ectasia which is
a major problem can occur with removing of too much corneal tissue to correct high myopia with the
laser. Night bad quality vision and dry eye complaints may be transient or permanent symptoms which
may cause dissatisfaction for refractive patients. Due to these limitations and complications,
indications for corneal refractive surgery have narrowed [3 6].
As many patients with myopia unsuitable for LASIK the Intraocular refractive procedures may be a
good alternative: high degrees of ametropia thin corneas and keratoconus suspect can be corrected,
more stable refraction, better visual quality in day and night

Global Expansion And The Conquest Of The Aztec Empire
Global expansion has been a large topic covered by historians for hundreds of years. The development
of independent countries establishing trade, business, and military powers had led to the development
and advancement of all the continents. The purpose of exploration, conquest and governmental power
are common themes that are shared among the powers of 16th century Europe. With unexplored land
and unknown inhabitants, the desire and race for expansion were a primary purpose of European
nations. Inhabitants of these new lands had established cultures, religions, and social lives. Little
documentation is to be found on native people of the North American continent, the majority had no
written language or were completely illiterate. Any written records kept were kept in the writings of
the victors. Understanding expansionism and conquest can be told differently by many different
scholars. Their evaluations can be one sided as there is no other story upon documentation that can be
evaluated. Hernándo Cortes and the Conquest of the Aztec Empire was to be evaluated as the ruthless,
war monger who sought power and control and treasure in the name of the King of Spain. Cortés
would invade a new piece of land inhabited by cultures of Indians to seize fame and fortune. His
military efforts along with the help of other native tribal allies destroyed an Empire of the largest
capacity. Reasoning and purpose for the invasion can only be told as a conquistador laying claim on

Digital Estate Research Paper
Unlike 20 years ago, a large portion of an average person s life is done online. If you re like most
people, you have an accumulation of digital assets, which can include everything from photos, videos
to checking accounts.
If you fail to leave your loved ones a complete documentation of your digital possessions, they can be
lost in cyberspace. If you re worried about your digital assets after you re gone, here are some
guidelines for ensuring they continue.
What s Included in a Digital Estate
A digital estate entails all your accounts that are accessed through a computer. This typically includes:
All email accounts This includes incoming, sent and stored email messages from all computers,
laptops, Ipads, cell phones and other internet devices.
Social media accounts such as Twitter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s tempting to select a close relative or friend to hand over your personal data once you re gone.
However, if you do this, just be sure he or she is qualified to handle the technical facets of all types of
digital assets.
One of the most qualities to look for when choosing a digital executor director is someone who s
detail oriented and exceptionally organized. Your digital executor should be highly tech savvy and not
afraid to use the internet.
He or she should also be dedicated to carrying out all your wishes, as well as be a patient person
because dealing with various internet companies can entail a considerable amount of time. Also, a
digital executor should be able to communicate and work well with other people.
Considerations and Warnings
Even if you leave behind all your passwords for your internet accounts, most heirs will still be
frustrated because they can still lack the power or authority for managing your online accounts once
you re

The Great War
The Great War On 28 June 1914, a Serbian shot an Austrian. Within six weeks, many of the countries
of Europe had become involved in a war that was to cause the deaths of 10 million soldiers, but was
the assassination the only cause of war? WWI wasn t just any war, it was also a new beginning and a
new cause for a few of the european countries that had been involved. The end results for Germany
had been the worst, which not only caused Germany to have a new purpose and have resentments, but
also to make something new from that beaten Germany. WWI was caused by many factors but the
ones that always come first to our attention could be one such as Militarism, which was an arms race
that was capable of making countries into great allies or an enemy to fear. Not only do some people
feel pride in being what they but also they can take their nationalism to a whole new level. Take hitler
as an example. Believing that his race was far better than any of the others out there, but it doesn t end
there. Allies was a big part of it also. If one country went to war with another then the allies would be
called upon and join in as well, which led to the opposing countries allies stepping in followed by any
of their allies, allies. But change played a great role also. Not everyone wanted change which could
mean a loss to any power a country held. Imperialism wasn t accepted by all and there were those
leaders in countries that knew what imperialism could mean to the power they

How Did Prophet Muhammad Contribute To The Rise Of Islam
The Islamic World
The rise of the Islamic World mainly began with the birth of Prophet Muhammad and greatly
continued to expand after his death. Prophet Muhammad and his followers moved along with the idea
to spread the believe of Islam and to gain many benefits of trade along the way. Prophet Muhammad
started off with only a few followers, but in the years to come many more joined creating a massive
army.
In late 6th century and early 7th century the Arabian Peninsula was divided into not only different
clans, but it was also divided into different religions. The two main religions in which Arabia found
itself divided were Christianity and Judaism. Some of Islam s teachings come from earlier Jewish and
Christian teachings. Although Islam began in the Arabian Peninsula the cultures and traditions are said

Prophet Muhammad was orphaned and raised by an uncle from his father s side, who happened to be

Prophet Muhammad received his first revelation by the age of forty. His revelation was delivered

Muslims are the followers of the religion of Islam.
The first dated occurance of the word Muslim in an extant Arabic inscripstion is not before 741;
previous texts had used the term believer. It has recently been suggested that the earliest incarnation of
Islam was a community of believers (mu minun) that shared a faith in fundamental axioms, such as
one god, revealed scripture, and an afterlife, but was otherwise conceptualized independent of
confessional identities. (Donner

The Metamorphosis Analysis
In The Metamorphosis, Kafka establishes, through his religious imagery and gospel esque episodic
narration, the character of Gregor Samsa simultaneously as a kind of inverse Messianic figure and a
god like artist, relating the two and thus turning the conventional concept of the literary hero on its ear.
The structure of the novel reflects that of the Gospel of Mark in that it is narrated in individual events,
and in this it is something of a Künstlerroman that is, the real metamorphosis is over the course of the
novel, rather than just at the beginning, and that change is a heightened sensitivity to the world in an
artistic sense. The motif of change is a rather theological one as well: we see it in a religious sense, in

. . at the table quietly reading the paper or studying (Kafka 12 13). This imagery of Samsa as a
studious carpenter characterizes him as humble and, in this, somewhat unlikable to the toughest
audiences. Even imagery as simplistic as this conjures the image of Gregor as a bookish, studious
milquetoast. At the same time, the carpenter characterization connotes Christ, and thus immediately
hints at Samsa s eventual heroism, even before anything significant has happened. So when the book s
first metamorphosis occurs in the first sentence, Gregor s prior circumstances make him fertile ground
in which a change in spirit can occur. Samsa even acknowledges the metaphysical change enacted in
himself: when he tries to explain to his family and the head clerk why he cannot leave his room, his
audience can no longer (understand) his words, even though they (are) clear enough to him, clearer
than before even (15). It is as if he is in another dimension from them completely and therefore a sort
of immortal at heart, before the knowledge is even imparted upon him in the form of his
metamorphosis into an insect. Only as a vermin can Gregor, thoroughly isolated from the world, be
truly human. In this alternative humanity Kafka incorporates James Joyce s assertion that an artist
remains ... invisible, refined out

College Essay On Lung Cancer
Lungs are located in the either side of your chest. When you breathe, air goes through your nose,
down your windpipe, and into the lungs where it spreads through tubes called bronchi. Most lung
cancer cells begin in the cells that line these tubes. Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of
abnormal cells in one or both lungs (Lungcancer.org). In biology, I learned that a cancer cell is

Airline Industry Essay 10
Introduction
It is easy for people nowadays to travel around the world because the Airline industry can provide fast
and convenient service for the passengers. However, in the world with a lot of competition, it is not
easy for the business to survive.
In this essay, we will first describe the features of the market which determine its market structure and
consider what the best market structure for the International Airline industry is. Then we will move on
to the term of non price competition and the three different ways in which airlines compete for a share
of the market. Lastly, we will explain why a perfect competitive firm is unlikely to make supernormal

It is logical to assume that a firm wishing to sell more goods or service will drop its price. At a lower
price, the quantity demanded by consumers will increase (James Keith, 2008, p. 139). On the other
hand, non price competition is the strategy in which company uses to increase its market share by
offering such quality of goods or service, customer focus, or other sustainable competitive benefit
other than price. This strategy is such brand management, advertising, or sales promotion (Brue
McConnell, 2002).
With the price competition, when one firm lower its price to sell more goods or service, other firms
will match the fall in price in order to remain their market share. If the firms decide to lower prices
further, a price war will be happened and it results in firms bankruptcy (James Keith, 2008). Firms
will engage in non price competition, in spite of the additional costs involved, because it is usually
more profitable than selling for a lower price, and avoids the risk of a price war (Brue McConnell,
2002). This is the reason why some firms prefer to use non price competition rather than price
competition.
Three different ways in which Airlines compete for their market share: ❖ Price leadership: This is a
type of collusion which Airline industry uses to avoid the uncertainties of competition. This is when
one firm has the greatest market share and the firms with lower market shares follow the

Impact Of John Adams On Society
Johns Adams, the first vice president of the United States and the second president of the U.S.A., was
a prominent political figure during the beginning of the United States of America and did a lot to build
the country to what it is today. John Adams has had more impact on American society and culture than
any other person in history by being involved in the creation of the American government, saving
America from crisis multiple times, and his involvement in foreign affairs. John Adams had important
roles as a founding father of the United States. He was responsible of writing the Massachusetts
Constitution, which is the oldest Constitution in America still in effect. The Massachusetts

With the war going bad for the Continental Army, John Adams was sent to France to try to convince
them to give America naval help, for the U.S. s navy was very weak. After attempting to gain naval
support Adams sailed to Holland to get a loan from the Dutch. He was successful in gaining the loan.
Throughout the end of the war, Adams would try to make peace with Britain. He was the main
negotiator in this action and would be successful in creating peace between the two countries. After
the US was favored to win the war, Adams was sent back to Paris to negotiate peace. Finally, in 1783
the Treaty of Paris was created declaring peace between the countries. Adams also had an impact with
immigrants, but the actions he took overshadow his entire presidency. He passed an unfavorable act
which is still controversial and argued today, the Alien and Sedition Act. These acts could ve been
passed in the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Acts like these were passed during the Cold War. The
acts basically took away many rights including freedom of speech, freedom of press, lawmakers
jailed, and immigrants weren t allowed in the country. Immigrants were the main targets for these acts.
It made it harder for them to get in, the aliens could be kicked out, and instead of having to reside in
the U.S. for five years to vote, they would have to stay in the United States for fourteen

What Events Led Up To Pearl Harbor
The Article I selected for this assignment was President Roosevelt, Admiral Stark, and the Unsent
Warning to Pearl Harbor: A Research Note. This article clarifies some of the more controversial events
leading up to pearl harbor. Specifically, why pearl harbor was not prepared for the attack. The article
starts off with the writers interviewing Admiral Harold R. Stark who took most of the blame for the
incident when it occurred. The interview itself was a regurgitation of information the writers already
knew but after they finished up the interview and were heading out the door Admiral Harold R. Stark
said Somebody had to stand up and shoulder the blame. It was up to me to do that. I ll carry that
burden, always. I ll keep that secret, always.

ABSTRACT
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in stimulating the growth potentials and
providing stability to the economy of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show that there are mainly four
factors which determine the net FDI flow to Saudi Arabia. These are GDP, Privatization, Import and
Export and Growth rate of GDP. There exists a positive relationship between FDI and GDP and GDP

presents the main conclusions and recommendations.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997) suggest
that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during the transition
period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in developing economies is
positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion (Balasubramanyam et al.,
1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with relatively liberal trade regimes
and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions with wider supra national free trade
arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD
countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output
growth in the recipient economy supporting the FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000);
Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek (2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on
GDP growth. They all used FDI measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long
run relationship between economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for
imports,

Brief History Of Computers Essay
The history of computers is a long and fascinating one. The computer was initially born out of
necessity, not just for entertainment, which is more or less how much people utilize computers these
days. In fact, computers were born out of a need to solve a serious number crunching crisis. By 1880,
the U.S. population had grown so large that it took more than seven years to tabulate the U.S. Census
results. The government sought a faster way to get the job done, giving rise to punch card based
computers that took up entire rooms. (Zimmermann) Today, we carry more computing power on our
smartphones than was available in these early models. The following brief history of computing is a
timeline of how computers evolved from their humble beginnings to the machines of today that surf
the Internet, play games and stream multimedia in addition to crunching numbers. (Zimmermann)
1801: In France, Joseph Marie Jacquard invents a loom that uses punched wooden cards to
automatically weave fabric designs. Early computers would use similar punch cards. 1822: English
mathematician Charles Babbage conceives of a steam driven calculating machine that would be able
to compute tables of numbers. The project, funded by the English government, is a failure. More than
a century later, however, the world s first computer was actually built. 1890: Herman Hollerith designs
a punch card system to calculate the 1880 census, accomplishing the task in just three years and
saving the government $5

Jim Crow Laws
Throughout the years of the 1900 s, segregation in the United States was strictly enforced due to the
specific laws held in place during this time. The Jim Crow laws, designed in 1877, highly obligated
the segregation between blacks and whites. These laws were designed to create separate facilities for
blacks and whites to use, all for the purpose of demonstrating that one race was inferior towards the
other (Woodward). Unfortunately, these laws resulted in a negative impact on citizens and society, and
later went on to affect different cultures such as Mexican Americans in the state of California. After
the Mexican American War, California was won over by the United States from Mexico, declaring it a
newfound state in 1848 (McCormick). Mexican American immigrants flooded the state of California
in the early 1920 s due to the immense boom in agriculture. These immigrants were needed solely for
labor purposes, increasing the immigration rates from Mexico to the United States, causing racial
tensions to arise between non Anglo Americans and Anglo Americans. Due to the tensions between
both races, discrimination among the non Anglo Americans started to worsen, limiting their access to
fair employment and a quality education (McCormick). During this time, school segregation was
taking its toll in specific areas in California, due to the pressure Anglo residents were putting on the
school systems. More Mexican s were immigrating to California every year causing a

Reflection Paper On Religion
For this project, I chose to spend time with someone who is religious to discuss our similarities and
differences. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic. I fulfilled my sacraments, from baptism to
confirmation. I attended church sporadically in grade school and attended Catholic schools from grade
school through college. I interviewed my mother who continues to encourage to practice our faith. She
attends church and prays daily. My mom finds value and meaning in the Catholic Church. I chose this
particular project, because I thought it would be an interesting way to reconnect with a way of life
which I had once known. Today, more than ten years after confirmation, much of my family is still
involved in the church. I developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ask my mom how she views the sacraments and whether they truly have value. My mom
acknowledges that she does not believe a child who is not baptized is condemned to hell, nor does she
seem to have a lot of respect for sacrament of holy orders. This leads us into a discussion of the
scandal that has rocked the church, the abuse of children by priests covered up by priests. My mom
seems to separate her religion and Catholic priests. She tells me she does not pay attention to priests
when she is at mass because she sees priests as flawed and is distrustful of the Church s refusal to let
priests get married or allow women to become priests. I am very familiar with my mom s view of
priests because my parents often cautioned me not to be taken in by priests or be alone with priests. I
press her on this issue because I have a much more difficult time understanding how I can support
such a flawed institution. However, I do find that I value the family traditions and celebrations that are
such a large part of the milestone sacraments such as baptism, first communion, and weddings. The
Catholic faith brings meaning to our lives at key points in our development and hold us to a certain
standard of behavior that I acknowledge begin with Christian values and traditions.
I ask my mom if she would be disappointed if I did not raise my children to be Catholic. My mom
strongly believes that being a Catholic goes beyond attending

First, like other luxury goods, the target customers were the first class in society, which could only
serve a little part of people. Its market was much smaller than the ordinary products. Second, LV had
many competitors in luxury industry. These famous brands all had centuries old history and good
quality of goods and focused on the first class in society. The competition became more and more
fierce in this field.
5.4.3 Opportunity
First, as a famous brand in the world, LV always chose the new market for luxury goods. For example,
now China was its new and important market. Before it opened its shops in China, many Chinese
customers had already bought LV product when they were in western countries, which provided a
good foundation for Chinese market. Now, LV also entered into the Indian and Russian market.
Second, shift in consumption concept and rapid global economic development provided a better

  • 2. What Is Discrimination In The Workplace Charlotte Bunch said, Sexual, racial, gender violence and other forms of discrimination and violence in a culture cannot be eliminated without changing culture (www.brainyquote.com). Even in the years since Dr. Martin Luther King s, I Had a Dream Speech, society has not changed enough for discrimination to end. Each day gets closer to a discrimination free world, but it has not been completed yet. Discrimination in Mice and Men by John Steinbeck showed plenty of discrimination, just as today does in sports, business, and education. First of all, Sports shows many examples of discrimination in modern society. For example, women have less of an opportunity to play sports in college. The author states, Nationwide, female college athletes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, students are restricted from worshipping during school. The author said, public schools split boys and girls into different classrooms ( Single Sex Schooling 1). Students are forced to be in different rooms in the school because their gender. Lastly, students race make them discriminated against in education. Patrick McNeil said, Too often, school districts with higher enrollments of students of color invents thousands of dollars less per student than those districts with predominantly white enrollments ( New Education Guidance 1). • 3. The Gender Trap Kia Villarreal The Gender Trap Book Review California State University, Bakersfield Kristen Gibson October 14, 2015 Gender issues have recently hit the surface pretty hard and has made life changing impacts, nationally. Some political topics have been on same sex marriage and restrooms for transgendered students. The nation is divided in regards to gender issues. The recent awareness has forced the government to step in and back up laws that are for and against these issues. Analyzing our lives on a daily basis seems easy, but after reading The Gender Trap: Parents and Pitfalls of Raising Boys and Girls by Emily Kane, I didn t realize how much I actually gender my children and how it could affect them in the future. Interviews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her interviews are of 42 people with different races, social economic backgrounds, homosexuals and heterosexuals of children. As Kane begins her book, she goes in depth of the study and what she proposes with her findings. First, she takes a stand that gender is a social term and not biological as I have always looked at it. Gender and power also are found to be related as agreed with Kimmel s textbook, The Gendered Society. He mentions only white people in our society have the luxury not to think about race every minute of their lives. And only men have the luxury to pretend that gender does not matter. She is able to grasp a stand from her interviews and is able to explain how females are socially excluded by the way the parents treat them and how this has led to a larger social problem with gender discrimination that includes wage gap and even domestic violence. Males have seemed to benefit from the power that has been given to them by society who engages in the marginalization of women. Now, it seems males are heavily burdened when it comes to the talk about gender differences. Chapter 1 includes the pre birth stage of gendering children. After I told my family we were having a female they threw me a surprise baby shower that included everything pink, so before she was even born she was given a gender. All the parents were able to say what gender they preferred for their child and why. The reasoning behind the gender preference can be very exciting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles And Expectations In The Canterbury Tales Jonathan Junio Mrs. Sibbach English IV 10 December, 2014 Gender Roles and Expectations in Medieval Society as seen through The Canterbury Tales In the Middle Ages, society established many roles and expectations of both men and women. These sought after characteristics exist in the literature of the time, none more recognized than Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The Canterbury Tales offers valuable insight on many aspects of medieval society including what culture thought of as the model person. • 6. The Article Fear, Romance, And Transience The article called Fear, romance, and transience in the lives of homeless women by Radley, Hodgetts and Cullen was a thought provoking article. I did not grow up in a neighborhood where homeless people were present, nevertheless; I have learned many assumptions about homeless people through what I have seen, my family s guidance and by watching numerous television shows and news reports on television and on the radio. Since these assumptions have been embedded in my life it has become a norm for me to think about homeless people as different from other humans who are not homeless. Since I was a child, my parents would always tell me to never talk to strangers and ignore the homeless because they are dangerous, dirty and poor people. From a young age it was evident that homeless people were not like everyone else and they should be treated differently. The only place I have been that has homeless people present is Toronto. I rarely visit Toronto but when I do, I only see homeless males who usually have beards with low hygiene. In reference to the article this image does reflect the over representation of men among the street homeless (Radley et al. P. 437. 2006). Now whenever I go to Toronto and see a man matching this description on the streets I automatically assume he is homeless. I also assume homeless people are intoxicated. I learned this assumption because many of the times I have been to Toronto the homeless people are stumbling around. For example, I went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concentration of wealth in 1929 was mainly in the hands of stock speculators (Tomkins L M, 2008) whereby the richest 1 percent of Americans owned approximately 40 percent of the country s wealth. • 8. The Impact Of The Emancipation Proclamation Although there were more than four million slaves living in the U.S. at this time, the Emancipation Proclamation did not formally free a single one of them. So that presents us with a couple of very interesting questions: first, why did Lincoln issue the proclamation if it had no practical effect? Second, why is the Emancipation Proclamation considered Lincoln s most important legacy if it didn t actually free anyone? Washington D.C., summer 1862. The Civil War had been going on for over a year, and it was not going well for Abraham Lincoln. 11 of the 15 southern states where slavery was legal had formed the Confederate States of America (CSA) and were waging a war to break free from the United States. Lincoln was determined that the nation was not going to fall apart on his watch. During the first year of the civil war, the Confederate Army had won the majority of important battles. When Lincoln became president, he had had no intention of abolishing slavery. Though he personally despised slavery and had won the presidency on an anti slavery platform, he would gladly have given up any chance of ending slavery in the South if it meant that the Confederate states would rejoin the United States. With no hope of bringing the South back into the United States by protecting slavery, Lincoln had a new dilemma. His own political party, the Republicans, had formed around their opposition to slavery. Many of the more radical politicians in the party saw the secession of the South as the best opportunity to abolish slavery once and for all. As the US war dead piled up, more and more Northerners began to push Lincoln to punish the states that had seceded by making abolition a major goal of the war. The problem with abolishing slavery, however, was that there were still four slave states that had not seceded from the United States: Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, and Delaware. Lincoln feared that if he advocated emancipation he would provoke those states into joining the Confederacy, making the war even more difficult to win. Of the border states, Maryland was particularly worrisome, because the US capital at Washington D.C. sat on its border with Virginia. If Maryland decided to join the Confederacy, Washington D.C. ... An achieved status is a status that is earned or chose. One of my achieved statuses is baseball. Being on the baseball team, or any club in that matter, requires a big time commitment and a lot is expected. My role performance or the things I actually do for this role are both strength and baseball workouts to keep in shape during the off season. Despite what one may ponder, people have a different viewpoint on war, it has been a part of this world since the beginning of time. Conflicts have, and will continue to arise from time to time and compromises are sometimes just not a solution. War is morally justifiable, to a certain extent, to solve occurring disputes. With these elaborate changes particularly regarding the current sophistication of technology, the workplace has also been propelling forward particularly focusing on the way in which they are governed. An organisational structure is the process of arranging people and other resources to work together to accomplish a goal (Schermerhorn, 2011). However, the Valve Steams Ahead case study shows that Valve Software does not have an organisational chart or training programs for new employees. They are simply given the staff handbook that is administered to each new employee. This handbook describes how the structure works, picking your own projects, office hours, peer reviews, steps taken after your first 6 months, hiring new staff and the weaknesses of the company (Handbook for New Employees). This lack of structure within the company makes it hard for people to develop mentors and become accustomed to the social aspects of the company which is only translated through existing employees. This affects the hiring of new staff as some talented people who are perfect for the organisation prefer to work within a formal organisational structure. Recommendations In order for Valve Software to improve their hiring of new staff and the initial training and development of employees, a few steps must be taken which are modified from formal organisational structures. Firstly, regarding the hiring of new staff, standardised personality testing should become a part of the day to day hiring procedures. Personality testing will distinguish between the right and wrong people for the job in relation to the atmosphere and co workers within the company. • 12. The United States President Should Not Be Limited Thesis: Should the United States President be Limited to the Terms of Service in Office? In this paper, I will argue that the United States president should not be limited to two terms in office. The rational for two terms has been to prevent abuse of power. My argument is based on the benefits of unlimited presidential terms and the hindrance of limited terms on the United States economy. An important element to consider is the role democracy plays on presidential terms and elections. The respect of human rights is a significant attribute in a democratic environment and economy. Democracy allows the rights of citizens to be respected, such as an individual s speech, religion or ethnicity. In a democratic economy every citizen has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1947 Senator Claude argued I think our people are to be safely trusted with their own destiny. This is exactly what democracy gives the people of United States, a sense of security that the power to select their leader is in their hands. If the people are limited in how many terms the can elect a president, does that not defeat the purpose of democracy? Or if anything conflicts with the sole aim of democracy giving power to the people. Senator Claude also said We do not need to protect the American people with a prohibition against a president whom they do not wish to elect; and if they wanted to elect him, have we the right to deny them the power? The answer to that statement should be no, because a democratic government should not reflect any characteristics of a totalitarian government whatsoever. And denying the people their wish who they wish to elect only reflects that. Why prevent a presidential administration from reelection if the rate of effectiveness is high and beneficial to the economy? When elected in to office each president brings for an agenda, which is a list of adequacies to improve the country. Corneal surgeries, such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and LASIK, have many limitations and contraindications especially for the correction of high refractive errors. Postoperative ectasia which is a major problem can occur with removing of too much corneal tissue to correct high myopia with the laser. The purpose of exploration, conquest and governmental power are common themes that are shared among the powers of 16th century Europe. With unexplored land and unknown inhabitants, the desire and race for expansion were a primary purpose of European nations. Inhabitants of these new lands had established cultures, religions, and social lives. Little documentation is to be found on native people of the North American continent, the majority had no written language or were completely illiterate. Any written records kept were kept in the writings of the victors. Understanding expansionism and conquest can be told differently by many different scholars. Their evaluations can be one sided as there is no other story upon documentation that can be evaluated. Hernándo Cortes and the Conquest of the Aztec Empire was to be evaluated as the ruthless, war monger who sought power and control and treasure in the name of the King of Spain. Cortés would invade a new piece of land inhabited by cultures of Indians to seize fame and fortune. His military efforts along with the help of other native tribal allies destroyed an Empire of the largest capacity. Within six weeks, many of the countries of Europe had become involved in a war that was to cause the deaths of 10 million soldiers, but was the assassination the only cause of war? WWI wasn t just any war, it was also a new beginning and a new cause for a few of the european countries that had been involved. The end results for Germany had been the worst, which not only caused Germany to have a new purpose and have resentments, but also to make something new from that beaten Germany. WWI was caused by many factors but the ones that always come first to our attention could be one such as Militarism, which was an arms race that was capable of making countries into great allies or an enemy to fear. Not only do some people feel pride in being what they but also they can take their nationalism to a whole new level. Take hitler as an example. Believing that his race was far better than any of the others out there, but it doesn t end there. Allies was a big part of it also. If one country went to war with another then the allies would be called upon and join in as well, which led to the opposing countries allies stepping in followed by any of their allies, allies. • 20. The Metamorphosis Analysis In The Metamorphosis, Kafka establishes, through his religious imagery and gospel esque episodic narration, the character of Gregor Samsa simultaneously as a kind of inverse Messianic figure and a god like artist, relating the two and thus turning the conventional concept of the literary hero on its ear. The structure of the novel reflects that of the Gospel of Mark in that it is narrated in individual events, and in this it is something of a Künstlerroman that is, the real metamorphosis is over the course of the novel, rather than just at the beginning, and that change is a heightened sensitivity to the world in an artistic sense. The motif of change is a rather theological one as well: we see it in a religious sense, in the form of ... This imagery of Samsa as a studious carpenter characterizes him as humble and, in this, somewhat unlikable to the toughest audiences. Even imagery as simplistic as this conjures the image of Gregor as a bookish, studious milquetoast. At the same time, the carpenter characterization connotes Christ, and thus immediately hints at Samsa s eventual heroism, even before anything significant has happened. So when the book s first metamorphosis occurs in the first sentence, Gregor s prior circumstances make him fertile ground in which a change in spirit can occur. Samsa even acknowledges the metaphysical change enacted in himself: when he tries to explain to his family and the head clerk why he cannot leave his room, his audience can no longer (understand) his words, even though they (are) clear enough to him, clearer than before even (15). It is as if he is in another dimension from them completely and therefore a sort of immortal at heart, before the knowledge is even imparted upon him in the form of his metamorphosis into an insect. It is logical to assume that a firm wishing to sell more goods or service will drop its price. At a lower price, the quantity demanded by consumers will increase (James Keith, 2008, p. 139). On the other hand, non price competition is the strategy in which company uses to increase its market share by offering such quality of goods or service, customer focus, or other sustainable competitive benefit other than price. This strategy is such brand management, advertising, or sales promotion (Brue McConnell, 2002). With the price competition, when one firm lower its price to sell more goods or service, other firms will match the fall in price in order to remain their market share. If the firms decide to lower prices further, a price war will be happened and it results in firms bankruptcy (James Keith, 2008). Firms will engage in non price competition, in spite of the additional costs involved, because it is usually more profitable than selling for a lower price, and avoids the risk of a price war (Brue McConnell, 2002). This is the reason why some firms prefer to use non price competition rather than price competition. LITERATURE REVIEW Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997) suggest that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during the transition period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in developing economies is positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion (Balasubramanyam et al., 1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with relatively liberal trade regimes and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions with wider supra national free trade arrangements. The computer was initially born out of necessity, not just for entertainment, which is more or less how much people utilize computers these days. In fact, computers were born out of a need to solve a serious number crunching crisis. By 1880, the U.S. population had grown so large that it took more than seven years to tabulate the U.S. Census results. The government sought a faster way to get the job done, giving rise to punch card based computers that took up entire rooms. (Zimmermann) Today, we carry more computing power on our smartphones than was available in these early models. The following brief history of computing is a timeline of how computers evolved from their humble beginnings to the machines of today that surf the Internet, play games and stream multimedia in addition to crunching numbers. (Zimmermann) 1801: In France, Joseph Marie Jacquard invents a loom that uses punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs. Early computers would use similar punch cards. 1822: English mathematician Charles Babbage conceives of a steam driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers. The project, funded by the English government, is a failure. More than a century later, however, the world s first computer was actually built. 1890: Herman Hollerith designs a punch card system to calculate the 1880 census, accomplishing the task in just three years and saving the government $5 ...
