Effects Of Alcohol Abuse On The Body
Effects of alcohol abuse
Alcohol abuse has become a growing problem in the U.S. today. Even though alcohol prevents
certain illness and extends life, alcohol abuse needs to be controlled before it gets to out of hand
because it has many negative effects on a person s body, it can cause harm to children mentally and
physically, and not only affects the person drinking it but the people around them.
Alcohol abuse has many negative effects on the body. One way it affects the body is through the
heart. It can cause a stroke, high blood pressure along with many other complications. Alcohol abuse
can also cause cancer in the mouth, liver, thought, and esophagus. It can also weaken the immune
system and prevent proper digestion in the pancreas.
Alcohol abuse can also affect the brain by changing the way it looks and works. This causing mood
change and behavior change making it hard to think clearly and move with coordination. Moving
without good coordination could cause the person drinking to stumble or even fall. It also can
affect the liver causing fatty liver, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is inflammation and/or
thickening of tissue.
Weschke and Niedeggen did research and test showing that the group received the placebo post
measurements were greater than there pre measurement for the contrast perception test, and the
group that received the alcohol there pre measurements were greater than there post measurements

Poverty and Crime in America Essay
Crime in this country is an everyday thing. Some people believe that crime is unnecessary. That
people do it out of ignorance and that it really can be prevented. Honestly, since we live in a
country where there is poverty, people living in the streets, or with people barely getting by, there
will always be crime. Whether the crime is robbing food, money, or even hurting the people you
love, your family. You will soon read about how being a criminal starts or even stops, where it
begins, with whom it begins with and why crime seems to be the only way out sometimes for the
poor. The exact amount of povertythat exits in the United States are difficult to ascertain, since the
manner in which poverty is measured determines the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their inadequacies are, however, themselves reflections of economic and related social
circumstances that determine opportunities, influence motives, help shape attitudes, and fix the
daily prospects for health and well being. A person may experience internal conflict in trying to
decide which set of values, attitudes, and codes of behavior to accept and internalize. For
example, to a kid living in a neighborhood that has many criminal types, these people may be
symbols of economic and social success because they have money, expensive clothes, fancy
cars, and other material possessions that inspire respect and jealousy. The kids may draw to the
criminal life style of these people because they want the same symbols of success for
themselves. At the same time, several youths in the neighborhood may have good relationships
with parents or other adults who are noncriminal in their life styles and who try to instill non
delinquent values in them. A young person exposed to both types of influences must balance out
their merits and decide whether to accept the values of one set of associates or those of the other.
Between 1990 and 2002 there were 13,504 males and 3,168 females who died as a result of
homicide. This showed that males, ages 12 through 17, were four times more likely than females
to be murdered. Arrests of adolescents for violent crimes are reported by police headquarters

Building Effective Service Learning Programs in Local...
Kids these days have a bad rap. Adults who don t regularly interact with high school students may
only see the negative side of the adolescents in their community. In fact, sixty one percent of
American adults are convinced that today s youth face a crisis in their values and morals, look at
teenagers with misgiving and view them as undisciplined, disrespectful, and unfriendly (Latham,
2003). One way to help change the attitudes of adults and also encourage youth personal
development is service learning programs in local communities. By participating in service
learning programs, students learn how to navigate group dynamics, diversify their peer group to

(Middleton Kelly, 1996). One of the biggest issues stems from a lack of facilitation on the larger
social issues involved with community service. When there is a proper forum to discuss the
experiences they receive while volunteering, students are given a chance to understand how policies
and civic involvement play a direct role in the lives of people in their communities. (Lakin
Mahoney, 2006).
Another issue is content involved in the community service activities. If teenagers are thrust into a
volunteer situation they don t understand or feel that they are simply being assigned made up work,
it can actually have a detrimental effect (Tugend, 2010). One way to make the most of volunteer
opportunities is to specifically design the content around areas of student development. By focusing
on key content areas, students learn how to use their current skill set to navigate new experiences
and difficult situations. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). A well organized and thoughtful volunteer
opportunity has proven time and time again to be a positive experience for youth. There are many
studies that discuss the character building benefits of service learning. Students who participate
have higher academic achievements, develop critical thinking, problem solving, decision making,
planning and organizing skills and expand their social circles. A student who volunteers is more
likely to volunteer and vote as adult. (Latham, 2003).

Houston Cougars Research Paper
The Houston Cougars were the darlings of the 2015 college football season thanks to their head
coach Tom Herman, leading them to a 13 1 record and a Peach Bowl victory over the Florida State
Seminoles.
Herman is not your average college football head coach. While he believes in the X s and O s, he
also takes prides in analytics, specifically two sets of stats. As we see in the world of sports, every
aspect of the game is starting to become more based around analytics.
At AAC media days, Herman talked about those two stats and more with SB Nation s Steven
Godfrey and Bill Connelly.
When asked about what two stats Herman looks at the most. He mentioned the turnover battle and
yards.
First numbers I look at are turnovers, Herman said. Second numbers I look at are yards. ... Show

For Houston, the turnover battle was their friend last season as their turnover margin was plus 1.5
per game. When you have a turnover margin at that rate, you will win a lot of football games.
The only game the Cougars lost last season due to the turnover battle not being in their favor was to
the Connecticut Huskies. In that game alone, Houston turned over the ball four times. That is a not
recipe for success.
However, Herman is also right when he says yards don t matter because in that game against
UConn, the Cougars out gained the Huskies 318 315.
Finally, one more stat that Herman spoke about was explosive plays, which Houston charts and it s
another why they are successful.
If you win the turnover battle and the explosive play battle in the same game, you win it 98 percent
of the time, Herman told Godfrey and Connelly.
Obviously, these are the stats to success for the Cougars and thus far it has worked out for them. It
will be interesting to see if these stats continue to work in their favor this upcoming season as they

Essay on Freedom of Choice in A Clockwork Orange
Freedom of Choice
In the novel A Clockwork Orange, the author Anthony Burgess tells a story about a young man
name Alex and his friends, every night they go around and start committing violent acts. In the
novel Alex expresses his freedom of choice between good and evil. The freedom of choice is a
decision that every person must make throughout his life in order to guide his actions and to take
control of his own future. This Freedom of Choice, no matter what the outcome is, displays person
power as an individual, and any efforts to control or influence this choice between good and evil
will take way the person free will and enslave him. In this novel the author uses this symbolism
through imagery. He shows that through the character of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

. . there s no law nor order no more pg 14. He takes on a role of authority in a society of anarchy.
Although he is impervious to the choice of good, Alex does not remain ignorant to this choice
throughout the entire novel. In the beginning, he believes that violence is the only way to prove
his control. This then leads to his loss of control through the loss of his ability of choice. Only in
the very end Alex finally become a well rounded character. He realizes that he does not have to
choose evil and abuse his position to prove his right of choice. But where I itty now, O my brothers,
is all on my oddy knocky, where you cannot go. Tomorrow is all like sweet flowers? pg 148. Alex
now knows that his future is open for his choices to lead him. For good or for evil, it is his right to
decide, and this is what truly proves his freedom of choice.
In the novel, the first freedom of choice Alex made was the type music to which he listens too
and loves, which is Mozart, Beethoven, and G.F. Handel, this type of music makes him very
energetic, it helps him foster violence, and it is the only thing in his life that he truly cares for.
This music represents the element of his choice and free will. When this choice is robbed from
him in attempt to help him, he loses his love for music in which he said, ?All the time the music
got more and more gromky, like it was all a deliberate torture, O my brothers pg 131. The music

Grief, Loss, and Everything Josh Kos would Floss (this is not the actual title)
Grief and loss are some of the most defining characteristics of the human experience. Therefore,
dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are
many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a
healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and
narrative storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out
in all of us, just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook.
In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems.
Suppressing her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co
worker Robby, her sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in
suppressing memories of her husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an
awkward limbo between her past and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of
grief leads to paranoia for Amelia. As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a
different limbo between reality and inside her mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her
situation becomes progressively worse.
Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout
The Babadook. However, while trees and

Comparing Karma, Reincarnation, Rebirth, Moksha, and Nirvana
Describe the difference between Karma, Reincarnation, Rebirth, Moksha, and Nirvana in relation to
both Hinduism and Buddhism.
Karma is the connotation of causality that past actions influence future events. This is the same for
both Buddhism and Hinduism. Both also believe in an endless cycle of births known as endless
cycle of births, known as samsara. and release from this cycle of rebirths.
Hindus believe in an everlasting soul (atman) that is reincarnated almost intact from birth to birth,
and through spiritual practice Hindus seek release (moksha, also known as liberation) so that the
soul can join with the Divine God, known as Brahmin.
How does Buddhism differ?
Buddhism believes in escaping the cycle of rebirths not through coming to an ultimate soul (it
doesn t believe in this), but through Nirvana the ultimate relinquishing of attachment to materialism
by transcending response to earthy feeling. In this way, one ends suffering by escaping the cycle of
rebirths. and reincarnations. Karma from past life can affect the happenings in a present one
according to both Hinduism and Buddhism, but Buddhism believes that one can escape this karma
and cycle of rebirths by practicing the 8 fold path which culminates in Nirvana. With this Nirvana
too, one gains a spirit of meditation or blissful mindfulness which is the epitome of the Hindu
Moksha. (The Buddha Garden.)

The Value Of A Business Chain
Saint Joseph s University The Value of a Business Chain Exploring Wal Mart s Key Advantage
Over The Competition Michael Cadwallader Foundations for BI: DSS600 Marvin Hagen June 26,
2015 Introduction Throughout the course of this year s studies, much attention has been devoted to
the importance of understanding the value of a business s value chain. The foundations for a
successful business can perhaps emerge in a number of different areas, but there is little doubt that
an optimal value chain is critical to starting an organization down the path towards enduring
success. This paper focuses on a company Wal Mart with which the writer is intimately familiar,

Defining the value chain A value chain adds value to raw materials as they pass through the
production process and then, inevitably, through the marketing and sales process. In a broad sense,
it is about identifying value via identifying areas of comparative advantage and how the
organization can bolster its market standing and its overall value and impact. It may also be noted
that the value chain is, for all intents and purposes, all internal activities and processes within the
organization that yield outputs in one form or another. It entails (or should entail) everything from
channel objectives to distribution strategy to marketing program supports to supplier configuration
and collaboration to communication plans (Burrows et al, 2012). Porter (1985) earned international
fame by offering a very comprehensive and insightful overview of the value chain. He took a
process view of organizations and perceived organizations as being, for all intents and purposes, a
system (with sub systems and even further sub systems) that take inputs and transform them into
outputs. There are transformational processes that manifest themselves all along the value chain
and, ultimately, can determine cost and profit outcomes. The acquisition of resources, and the
consumption of resources, largely determines how an organization finds value and optimizes it. In
the view of Porter (1985), the

The Importance of African-American Studies Essay
African American Studies The aspect of African American Studies is key to the lives of African
Americans and those involved with the welfare of the race. African American Studies is the
systematic and critical study of the multidimensional aspects of Black thought and practice in their
current and historical unfolding (Karenga, 21). African American Studies exposes students to the
experiences of African American people and others of African descent. It allows the promotion and
sharing of the African American culture. However, the concept of African American Studies, like

African American History or Black American History, a history of African American people in the
United States from their arrival in the Americas in the Fifteenth Century until the present day. In
1996, 33.9 million Americans, about one out of every eight people in the United States, were
African American. Although African American from the West Indies and other areas have migrated
to the United States in the Twentieth Century, most African Americans were born in the United
States, and this has been true since the early Nineteenth Century. Until the mid 20th century, the
African American population was concentrated in the Southern states. Even today, nearly half of all
African Americans live in the South. African Americans also make up a significant part of the
population in most urban areas in the eastern United States and in some mid western and western
cities as well .Africans and their descendants have been a part of the story of the Americas at least
since the late 1400s. As scouts, interpreters, navigators, and military men, African Americans were
among those who first encountered Native Americans. Beginning in the colonial period, African
Americans provided most of the labor on which European settlement, development, and wealth
depended, especially after European wars and diseases decimated Native Americans (http:/

Rhetorical Analysis Of Banksy
Rhetorical Analysis of Banksy s The Son of a Migrant from Syria
With his piece The Son of a Migrant from Syria painted on the walls of a refugee camp in Calais,
France, anonymous British street artist, who is known by the pseudonym Banksy, enters the
politically fueled debate about the refugee and migrant crisis across the world. Western societies
in particular are concerned about the economic impact of accepting immigrants and refugees but
Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world s most profitable company, it pays
over $7 billion a year in taxes (Neuendorf, 2015) said by the rarely publicly outspoken street artist.

The British artist has no true public identity. With no background on the individual responsible
for the mural it is difficult to know if he carries any clout in the political or sociocultural world.
Banksy is known to be somewhat of a socialistic democrat, as implied by the genre of his art, but
otherwise there is no information given to assess his credibility. Given that Banksy is quite
popular and well known, his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but
not as a credible resource in regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity
towards political and socially controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues
surrounding the treatment of migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. However, his expertise in
the subject is made even less reliable due to the lack of relevance Steve Jobs has with the actual
situation. For example, Steve Jobs was the son of a migrant and not a migrant himself and he was
adopted and had never met his migrant father therefore he is not an accurate representative for
refugees or migrants. Banksy s visual appeal to ethos is virtually non existent for those unfamiliar
with his works. This may not effect the viewer s engagement in the argument but makes them
disregard Banksy s personal contribution to the argument. Overall, the appeal to Ethos appears to
be minimally effective in persuading the audience towards his

Ability s Inability (Rough Draft)
When considering Christian allegories that have been written through the years, one has stood out
from the rest. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many
readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is,
with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement:
Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes
which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s
Progress was written by John Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The
Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of
a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s
Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not
originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences
between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two
different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the
individual.
John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original
tale. Two years after publishing the original story, Bunyan wrote his first sequel to The Pilgrim s

Gouging And Virtue
There is always a debate when it comes to price gouging and virtue because it can cause many
problems/dilemma in our society. Price gouging occurs when goods and services are being charged
more than the normal amount, which happens in a natural disaster. An example that was mentioned
in the book was that in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley, generators that go for $250 were now
raised to $2000 (Sandel, 2009, p. 3). The concept of virtueis what society wants to encourage in a
community such as good traits or qualities of character which are accepted. (Sandel, 2009, p. 7).
According to Sandel, virtue is a principle which is used as a decision making to determine what s

Comparing Sculpture and Painting in Roman Life
Introduction
When contemplating the art forms of sculpture and painting, in ancient Rome, one has to consider
not only how they differ in form but also how they differed in use. Although both art forms were
used for a sense of status, one is deeply rooted in realism and the other in fantasy. In order to
compare these two distinct art forms, I will first look at them individually and discuss their uses in
Roman life, then I will draw conclusions based on my findings.
Discussion
Following the Second Macedonian War, (200 197BCE), the influence of Greek sculpture was
greatly felt in Rome and many imitations of Greek brass sculptures were being reproduced in
marble for Roman patrons. The Greeks emulated the Egyptians in their pursuit of the ideal male
physical form, the kouros, or youth, often sculpted in the form of an athlete or a god. Roman
sculpture evolved, with a strong influence from the sacred wax imagines, portraits of ... Show more

the first style are paintings done to imitate the marble panelling found in wealthy homes (Ambler,

masonry, windows over looking imagined gardens, vases sitting on shelves, tables that seem to

embrace the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm
across the world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting
demand to radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation
is inevitable. Introduction In an increasingly competitive global environment, where the search for
opportunities dominates all other undertakings, where resources are less than those who seek them,
it becomes important to find ways and means of sailing through. Businesses across the world are
increasingly responding to these challenges by applying information systems to enhance
performance and efficiency in the operations. The major objective lies in producing high quality
goods at the lowest possible cost. As

Here, the transmitting part includes the ADXL335 accelerometer which is mainly a analog devices
and generates analog signal. It [6]and compares it with a predetermined threshold value. The signal
which accelerometer generates is analog signal and the microcontroller only functions on digital
there is a ADC which is connected to microcontroller fro this coversion.. The signal generated by a
microcontroller is then send to a Xbee S2.
ADXL335: ADXL335 is a type of 3 axis accelerometer which is very thin, low power and small
and sends voltage outputs to the microcontroller. It is a kind of gadget which can be utilized to
recognize stuns, vibration and it likewise has some different applications, for example, for
gaming, cell phones, picture pivot and cameras.Instead of using some additional temperature
circuits in building this system ADXL335 can be used as it is very efficient and has very less
error. It can measure in 3 xis with a measurement range of В±3g. In this system is connected to
ADC pins for analog to digital conversion.

If the logical mind, isn t enough to create motivation within us! Should we then let emotions

Analysis Of The Count Of Monte Cristo Quotes
The Count of Monte Cristo Quotes Dumas, Alexandre. The Count of Monte Cristo. Trans.
Lowell Bair. New York: Bantam Edition, 1956. Print. 1. Villefort started in spite of himself. The
coincidence shook his usual impassivity and struck a chord of sympathy in the depths of his
soul. He, too, was about to be married; and he had now been called upon to destroy the joy of a
man who, like himself, was on the point of attaining his supreme happiness (Dumas 25). In this
quote, Villefort finds out that Dante s is about to get married and starts to actually feel sorry for
the man because he himself was also about to get married. I chose this quote because I think it
symbolizes that even though Villefort is mainly an antagonist he still has good aspects to him
as well. 2 I regret now, said he, having helped you In your late inquiries, or having given you the
information I did. Why so? inquired DantГЁs. Because it has instilled a new passion in your
heart that of vengeance (Dumas 58). In this quote, the author is showing how Dante s finally
learns about how he has gotten mistreated throughout the whole prison affair. I chose this quote
because it shows the how gullible and trusting Dante s was as a person and how it quickly
changed into a fury that would not be extinguished. 3. A sad smile passed over his lips as he
wondered what had become of Mercedes during all that time when she must have believed him to

The Pros And Cons Of College
Remember when you were little and you d fall on the trampoline and everyone would keep

College is said to provide individuals of a better career opportunity, secured job, and higher
paycheck. Every year, students all around globe debate on what college they want to attend, or if
they want to attend college at all. In the United States, only 65.9 percent of students, who has
graduated from high school the previous spring, had chose to enrolled into college (Norris, para.
2). So the question here is, if college is so great, why are the percent of participants so low? In this
paper, two universities, University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, will be compared by
their admission rates, prices, and student to faculty ratio.
In 2017, college admission rate dropped as low as 4.65% for the first time ever ( Admission
Statistic , par. 2). College is competitive even for those who are extremely intelligent. In the
University of Kentucky, admission rate is around 70 percent ( UK Acceptance Rate , par. 2).
The average composite score is roughly a 21, meaning that about 50 percent of test takers score
below a 21 (Ellen, par. 5). This college s requirement for ACT ranges from a 23 to a 28, according
to acceptancerate.com ( UK Acceptance Rate , par. 2). The GPA, following the admission rate and
ACT, is acceptable also. The essential GPA goes from 3.23 to 3.52, which

God Of Carnage Analysis
God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza is centered upon two upper class couples who come together to
discuss a fight between their boys. Through this meeting, they become their children fighting,
causing absolute chaos and carnage of the situation. All of them lose their objective in the end of
wanting to solve the problem of their boys and to be the most civilized, powerful couple in the
situation. Specifically Annette, played by junior Sarah Cushman, ultimately loses her battle of
maintaining a civilized demeanor due to the killing of Veronica and Michael s hamster, her
husband s work related calls, and drunkenly listening to Veronica about being a phony when
emotions were already at their peak. One of the first conversations is about Michael getting... Show

her son. She was then called a phony by the other couple, prompting her to leave. As Alan was

how it is the worst day of her life, too. At this point, she has lost all civility and power. She
embarrassed herself and nothing was solved with the meeting. Cushman stuck with her given
circumstances so well by the point. She was defensive of her child, her husband lacked the
attention and care to deal with the situation, she was drunk which caused her emotions to escalate,
and she knew she had not been civil. Cushman allowed the audience to see the defeat of Annette.
There were many more moments when Annette failed to reach her super objective, but the fate of
the hamster, the destruction of Alan s cell phone, and her reaction to being called a phony all were
major points in losing civility and represented her downfall into causing carnage. Her downfall was
clearly articulated by Sarah Cushman and overall every point of outrageous activity was justified

Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics
Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed
to air. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has
similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds
Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids
behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster
fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure.
There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs
when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The
second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided
by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by
the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the
force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating
friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with
almost (practically) no effect in space.
With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal
flight. Powered flight continuously uses energy to fly for periods of time, such as throwing an

Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past
memories as a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his
background. Memories ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both
negative and positive experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by
utilizing numerous devices, such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of
physical interactions that he feels. In one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza
with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a
description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The
words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a sense of violence and force. However,
Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited from his father and doesn t want
to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone towards his father in the first
stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging, Under my window, a
clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3) This reference is
defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood memory sparks
deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and sight to
feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the window
proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme of
memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an
important experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and
connects this to the control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal
point rests on his rustic Irish past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past
memory frames the roots and basis in which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging
through the linkage of his father and grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just
like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this sentiment, digging

Child Recovery
What is the Role of Education in the Recovery of a Child?
Often, when a child is ill or needs behavioral health treatment, education is the last thing on a
guardian s mind. They re focused on the day to day management of their child s care:
communicating with doctors and nurses and easing their child s fears during his or her hospital stay.
During and after treatment, the focus is on the child s recovery so they can go back to being a kid:
playing with their friends, enjoying family time, and transitioning back to school.
The moment a child walks through those hospital doors they become a student patient, who not

Many student patients must miss extended periods of school, becoming disconnected from their
education and social life. They may feel that their teachers and friends have forgotten about them.
Some may become depressed and have anxiety about returning to school after treatment. So, it s
important they stay engaged. KidsHealth authors recommend that student patients stay connected
via online social networking sites, email, instant message, text messaging, and talking on the phone
with classmates, friends, and teachers. They also state that staying connected to school bring
academic, cognitive, psychological, and social benefits.
There are numerous reasons why children must be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Some
kids may be battling cancer and need chemo. Others may need to visit the hospital a few days a
month for kidney dialysis. A child with a disability may need regular physical therapy treatment.
On the other side, children who struggle with a mental, social, or behavioral illness, like bipolar
disorder, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may miss school for extended
periods of time to treat or manage their condition and minimize stressors.
According to an article on Nationwide Children s, stress is a common part of every child s life. A

Margaret Atwood Rape Fantasies Analysis
Margaret Atwood s short story Rape fantasies explores society s understanding of rape and
women s ability to express their sexuality in the 1970s. Through the lens of several different rape
fantasies, Atwood shows how women often suppress their sexuality, but instead can reclaim it,
and displays how the popular depictions of rape in the media of the 70s affected people s outlook
on it. Some aspects of her story show the shame and silence related to rape, while other aspects
show subversive and progressive ideas that brings to light that the idea of rape is not an

As stated before, media of the time promoted passive and submissive behavior in women
particularly in the situation of a sexual assault, but even outside of dangerous situations, in a
normal relationship. The feminine movement of the 70s began to recognize and rail against the
patriarchy that demanded women s role as a second class citizen, often viewed as an object or,
at best, an inferior dependent. The traditional role impressed upon women was that of a sexuality
that is passive and lacks concern for the woman s pleasure . Unfortunately, even today, this idea
of women s sexuality has not been eradicated, as evidenced by literature published years after this
time Daniel Shank Cruz focuses on the book The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex, published twenty
five years after Rape Fantasies. Good Vibrations contains scenarios of women s rape fantasies, in
which the women in the fantasies are immobilized and raped by attackers, but they inwardly enjoy
it despite their outward appearance. Cruz points out that the problem with these fantasies is not that
the women in the fantasies enjoy their encounters, because these women claim their sexuality by
finding pleasure in a sexual situation. However, the problem lies in that the women in this book
are disempowered, allowed to be used as impersonal sex objects, denied any control over their

Minimum Weight Design of a Wing Box Subjected to Bending
Minimum weight design of a wing box subjected to bending
Abstract:
Aircraft wing is one of the best examples of an efficient structural design. A variety of structural
arrangements are possible to satisfy design goals. The endeavour is always to arrive at a minimum
weight of a wing structure for a given set of design conditions.
The main load carrying structure of a wing is the torsion box formed by front spar, rear spar, and
top spar amp; bottom skins. In the preliminary design stages an effect is made to arrive at an
efficient design of this box structure. The load carrying capacity of this box structure is largely
controlled by the buckling of the compression cover plate. In order to get a minimum weight
design of such a box the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first approach requires a thorough understanding of the buckling phenomenon. The top cover
of a wing box beam is a long and wide plate. For all practical purposes it will buckle as a wide
column where the critical buckling stress is given by the Euler s buckling formula
This will be an unacceptably low value. In order to increase the buckling stress, ribs are employed
with provide lateral support to the compression cover plate along their lines of attachment.
Various possible buckling modes can occur which are briefly discussed below
If the flexural rigidity of the tension cover is very low, the box can buckle as a whole. If the tension
cove is flexural very stiff and the ribs are very weak then the buckling pattern will be as shown here
As the deflection stiffness of the ribs increase the buckling pattern changes forming more than one
half sine waves over the length of the box as shown in the next figure
Here the ribs are represented as deflectional springs and the buckled wave form is very much
exaggerated. The idea here is that the ribs are not stiff enough to provide nodes at their location.
This is illustrated in the next figure
The ribs are just stiff enough to enforce nodes along their lines of attachment with the skin. The
effective length of buckling = rib spacing and the buckling stress

Analysis Of Film Congo
Paramount Pictures film Congo, adapted from the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, is
one of the smartest parody of typical jungle adventure plots in cinema. Congo, after its release,
has been criticized for try to piggyback off The success of Universal s Jurassic Park just two
years earlier (James Berardinelli). Though the camp style, visuals, and acting, adds to the film s
charm, while not undermining the viewer s intelligence with smart one liners and dialogue that
holds weight between acts. This creates the feel of a B action movie on an A movie s budget.
Large uncharted jungles, counties in political turmoil, and lost cities of dead civilizations, are
settings that are archetypal to adventure films. Congo uses these settings to play with the movie s
humor. With several sites such as the city of Zinj, clearly looking like it was shot on a sound
stage in Hollywood, gives less believability to scenes filmed on location. Taking the gravity and
the sense of danger from even the intense scenes. This is aided by the practical effects such as
costumes of the silver back gorilla, and gray gorillas, with stiff movement and equally rigid
expressions. Tied with minimal effect, such as an animatronic hippo in the night river scene, gives
Congo the visual interpretation of a comedy.
The comedic parody aspect continues into the actors pretrial of the characters in Congo. The
movie s opening scene shows Jon Don Bakers character, giving a text book example of over acting,

Comparing Lady Macbeth And Apothecary
Both the Speaker and Lady Macbeth utilize their flirtatious sexual behavior and dialect in the same
way. They both have an uncanny ability to sexually seduce the male characters e.g. Macbeth and
the Apothecary to complete their end goals and get what they want. For example Lady Macbeth
uses sexual encouragement to persuade Macbethto commit the murders, though in some
circumstances that does not work so she questions the manliness of him saying that he should be
the woman and her the man. So inevitably he commits the murders because he doesn t want to
seem weak. The Speaker relies completely on her sexual encouragement to sway the Apothecary
into accepting that for him to create the poisonous substance it is acceptable. And where Lady

Lady Macbeth is such a jealous, intelliagent and in particular manipulative individual she will
persevere relentlessly to get what she wants, as she is completely fit for accomplishing it.
As you can imagine Lady Macbeth was a big shock to a seventeenth century contemporary
audience, she was a world away from her era. During the seventeenth century woman were seen
as the weaker and inferior sex, to delicate and fragile for this was a mans world, they were far
from equal to men in fact you could say that they were the slaves of the seventeenth century. Their
only responsibilities were to look after the house, the children, and to keep their husband happy.
Now you can see why Lady Macbeth wanted to have power and responsibility so much though to
be quaint she did rule with an iron fist over Macbeth.
The Laboratories Speaker is thick with envy of Elise (her partners significant other) which is clear
to see all through the poem as she communicates her feelings strongly, this intense yet enthusiastic
jealousy could only be accomplished in the event that she encountered the same level of

Essay on Music in the Sixties
Music in the Sixties
My topic is Music in the Sixties. In my essay I would like to determine that events that occurred
during the 1960 s had a significant effect on some of the music that was produced. I believe that
certain music and musical events derived from peoples feelings and views on things that occurred
during the 60 s. Some of these events include the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement
, politics,
and society as a whole. There were many different stereotypes and prejudices. There was war going
on, and there were many people who were trying to focus on peace. My main goal is to show how
these events may have influenced people s music, and also to emphasize how music was used to
unify people despite all of the negativity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woodstock was a huge music and art fair that lasted 3 days in the summer of 1969. The site tells
who sponsored Woodstock, what different people s opinions were on the purpose of the festival,
and what occurred over the course of the planning and duration of the concert. The promoters
wanted to link the theme of the concert to the anti war sentiment. Many people who were
involved were stereotyped as drug users or left wing politicians because of their appearances.
These events, although intended to send a message of peace, also caused a great deal of conflict.
In addition to this information we are given the names of the performers who participated in the
concert. This site also has information of other events that took place during the 60 s, such as
The Monterey International Pop Festival, which took place in order to show that pop music
should be accepted as a serious art form, as jazz was. This event first took place in the summer of
1967. This site also includes additional links, but these are the ones that I felt were useful.
The second source that I used is titled Colored Reflections lt;http://net4tv.com/color/index.htm .

Questions and Answers on Ernest Rutherford Essay
What school did Ernest Rutherford go to? How far did he go in his education? Why?
Ernest received his early education in Government schools. At the age of 16 he showed great
talent so entered Nelson Collegiate School. In 1889 he was awarded a University scholarship to
the University of New Zealand, Wellington. 1894, he was awarded an 1851 Exhibition Science
Scholarship, enabling him to go to Trinity College, Cambridge. It is believed that Ernest received
more scholarships that any other chemist.
Who were Ernest s family? What did they do?

Alpha particles are emitted at high speed by some radioactive materials. Rutherford bombarded the
gold foil with alpha particles which proved that particles weren t indivisible. Alpha particles have a
positive electric charge and they are much more massive than the electron.
What version of the atom did Ernest discover to be true? How does it compare to today s
understanding?
Ernest was forced to discard JJ Thomson s Plum Pudding model, he reasoned that the mass of an
atom was concentrated in a nucleus. He thus developed the model of the atom which put all the
protons in the nucleus and the electrons orbited around the nucleus like planets around the sun. The
only difference with today s model is that electrons are now thought to be in electron clouds not in
specific orbits.
Which scientists model was before Ernest s? How do they compare?
JJ Thompson s plum pudding model was just before Ernest s model. It states that atoms are made
of electrons and unknown positively charged particles. These particles are randomly placed inside
of the atom. Rutherford s model states that atoms contain protons in a very small space inside the
atom. Most of the atom is empty and the electrons orbit around the nucleus like the planets orbit
around the sun.
What did ernest contribute to the structure of the atom?
Through Rutherford s gold foil experiment, Ernest discovered the nucleus of the atom.

My Papa Knultz Analysis
Battered Knuckles While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred
passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax,
and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz
to reflect back to his sentimental memories with his father. In brief, Roethke leaves the audience
with an unclear understanding of what the meaning of the poem is. In discussions of My Papa s
Waltz, one controversial issue is the father casually plays with the son. On the other hand, some
readers argue that the father is abusing his son straightforwardly. However, after contemplating
the context of the poem and gathering information from the text, it has become undeniably clear
that the poem is about the father abusing his son. Ultimately, Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to
illustrate a picture of his nostalgic remembrance for the readers. The authors controversial poem
becomes clear when one carefully examines the context of the poem. In stanza one, line one,
Roethke describes the papa in the poem as having whiskey on [his] breath. This line illuminates
the idea of the father being intoxicated; hence, can lead to a change in behavior. Further, the
change in behavior can be the cause of violence towards the child in the poem. Coincidentally,
Roethke s father dies in 1923 at the age of 52; thirty eight years later Roethke writes My Papa s
Waltz, roughly at 52 years of age. The

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Narendra Modi Reforms
Roadblocks in implementing various schemes and reforms by Narendra Modi
Every five years, a particular trend could be observed. National elections are held and different
political parties ended up getting different number of seats. Since the 1984 elections, no party has
established a simple majority of its own. So in the end, always a Coalition government came into
power. This time it was different. The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), led by its prime ministerial
candidate Narendra Modi, won a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections, with 282 seats on its
own. The alliance it lead National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had 336 seats in the lower house of
the Parliament. This thing could be attributed to the military style campaign by Modi and ... Show

bilateral ties. Some had the intended outcome while others had not. The visit to Japan had failed to
meet one of the main objectives to sign an agreement on civil nuclear cooperation. Thus, building
of nuclear plants in India remain stalled. Also in Nepal, he failed to sign agreements on the
development and sale of hydro generated power the Power Trade Agreement and the Power
Development Agreement despite India helping out Nepal in innumerable ways. Modi is still
viewed as a polarising figure when it comes to international stage, an attribution that he should

Gender Stereotypes In The L Word
The L Word in one of the rare examples of a television show that centers itself on characters that fall
outside of the straight male hegemony; this is true from the introductory shots of the show. After
doing a series of setting establishing shots of LA, the camera pans across a typical suburban street,
and image that immediately invokes the idea of the typical mom and with with their kids, American
nuclear family. The next scene introduces the first character, a muscular, straight, white, cis manin a
white t shirt movie furniture within a room that one would expect to find in such a suburban scene.
The typical male character is the type of protagonist that viewers are typically asked to identify
with, but in this case, he is placed behind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By allowing the viewer to see this character once again, it gives them a familiar face to identify
with. As Mulvey suggests, most visual media is meant for white men to identify with, this type of
character gives the short allusion that the television show is going to be this same type of
experience: a show directed at straight white men. However, it quickly flips the script on this as
the next scene, in which we receive the shows first dialogue, depicts one of the women from the
bed, named Tina, standing in front of a mirror, looking at an ovulation test. Mulvey writes about
what is called the mirror phase, The mirror phase occurs...with the result that his recognition of
himself is joyous in the he imagines his mirror image to be a more complete, more perfect than
he experiences his own body. Recognition is thus mislaid with mis recognition: the image
recognized is conceived as the reflected body of self, but its mis recognition as superior projects
(60). This quote describes a stage of identity in psychoanalysis in which a child first recognizes
themselves in a mirror, and can therefore imagine themselves as more than a reflection of their
mother s face even though the image is a misrepresentation in it s incompleteness (Mulvey 60).
This concept is directly applicable to this scene, as the character standing in front of the mirror
represents a stage of identification for the viewer. By seeing the character reflected in the mirror the
viewer receives a more complete image of her, is forced into this step of self identification; thus, the
audience directly cued that they are supposed to identify with this character, rather than the male
character that was shown

Research Paper On Gallium
The discovery of such an element as gallium does not come as just any accidental discovery.
Gallium or Ga, atomic number 31 was in a long research process for fifteen years by Lecoq de
Boisbaudran. He had been meticulously studying the spectra of several chemical elements, Lecoq
knew that each and every element produces its very own and distinct pattern of lines when heated,

spectra, he distinguished that the element on the periodic table between indium and aluminum was
yet to be discovered. Lecoq de Boisbaudran theorized that with gallium supposedly having an

Tom Responsible For The Great Gatsby

instead of suicide. Fitzgerald really emphasizes the sort of forbidden love between main
character Gatsby and wife of Tom, Daisy. Gatsby is a very mysterious man thought the book and
we are not sure if he is lying most of the time or his story is true. The main mystery of this book
is who killed Gatsby, and what their motive was. George Wilson (husband of Tom Carraway)

Thesis Statement For Oedipus
A man can only justify his actions if he regards his demeanor with deductive thinking. This man
was not Oedipus mainly because he was a fu**ing douchebag. One must know who Oedipus was to
understand the period in which it was written. This is my thesis statement. The Greeks contributed
many things to our culture, such as olives, gyros, Lenny Kravitz, anal sex, and Oedipus. Oedipus
will be remembered though out time because he suffered from Lou Gehrigs disease, and that s why
he couldn t play base ball in the first Olympic games. He will always be remembered for his
journeys and his love for the New York Yankees.
Laius and Jocasta were king and queen of Thebes, a town in Greece. They were fu**ing around
and Laius forgot to strap his sh**. One day, they had a baby boy. An oracle prophesied that the
boy would grow up and kill his father and marry his mother. Laius was like fu** that sh**, that s
gay. To thwart the prophecy, Laius and Jocasta decided to kill their baby. They fingered his butt
hole and sent him on his way. In those days, it was usual to leave an unwanted or defective baby
in the wilderness. Laius and Jocasta did this. To be extra sure, they pierced his little feet and tied
them together. (Don t worry about this detail, which makes no sense. It must have been
introduced to explain the hero s name.) A kindly shepard found the baby in a pool skimmer. He
gave the baby to a friend, who took it to Corinth, another town. (Corinth reappears in the New
Testament. Under the category of DVDA, versus 63) The king and queen of Corinth couldn t
have a baby of their own. The king had a bad case of the limp dick. So they adopted the
foundling. Nobody ever told little Oedipus that his mother was never pregnant. She aborted a
kitten in a toilet in the back of a Denver Denny s. One day, after he had grown up, a drunk
mentioned his being adopted. Oedipus killed the bum. Oedipus questioned his parents, but they
denied it. Oedipus visited various oracles to find out whether he was really adopted. All the
oracles told him instead he would kill father and marry his mother. He told them that they were
dissin him so he grabbed his 12 sided double dildo and left town. (None of this makes much sense.

The Mechanism Of Online Dispute Resolution
Introduction In the current India legal system, where court proceedings take a lifetime to decide
upon an issue, the mechanism of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) may prove to be fruitful.
ODR refers to the use of methods like arbitration, mediation, negotiation, med arb, etc. over the
internet as opposed to the normal or traditional way of litigation. With a huge number of people
already connected to the internet and a good number of people getting connected to the internet
each and every day, the scope of cyber crime expands. Therefore, it is a necessity to design an
efficient mechanism for resolving disputes related to the internet as traditional mechanisms prove
to be time consuming, expensive, and have jurisdictional problems. Hence, ODR takes into
consideration two types of disputes: those that arise in cyberspace or virtual world and those that
arise offline or in the real world. ODR can be done online either partly or entirely. Among different
issues that are sought by way of arbitration, issues related to International Commercial Transactions
top the list. In International Commercial Arbitration, the parties are free to choose the law by
which they want to be governed as well as the jurisdiction in which they want to take up the
dispute. Now, the element of jurisdiction sometimes creates problems as the parties, in some cases,
refuse to travel to a distant place because of some reason and suffer for not abiding the arbitration
agreement. This element of

However, the American Heart Association (AHA) reports that cigarette smoking is responsible for
440,000 deaths each year. MedlinePlus reports that both cigarettes (smoking tobacco) and chewing
(smokeless) tobacco are bad for your health, and cause multiple and often fatal health problems.
Cardiovascular Disease
One negative effect that tobacco and nicotine addiction has on the health of the body is
cardiovascular disease. AHA reports that cigarette smokers are two to three times more likely to
develop cardiovascular disease than people who do not smoke. Also according to AHA, of the
440,000 deaths each year caused by cigarette smoking, 135,000 are due to smoking related
cardiovascular diseases. Nicotine in tobacco products causes an increase in blood pressure and
heart rate, and a narrowing of the arteries. Carbon monoxide that is inhaled when tobacco is
smoked decreases the amount of oxygen carried by the blood to feed the body s tissues. The
AHA reports that carbon monoxide and nicotine damages the artery walls, which leads to the
deposition of fat and narrowing of arteries, which further increases blood pressure. Damaged
vessels and high blood pressure are all risk factors for heart failure. Furthermore, smoking tobacco
causes the blood to clot more easily, which may cause a heart attack or stroke. see survivor stories

  • 6. Poverty and Crime in America Essay Crime in this country is an everyday thing. Some people believe that crime is unnecessary. That people do it out of ignorance and that it really can be prevented. Honestly, since we live in a country where there is poverty, people living in the streets, or with people barely getting by, there will always be crime. Whether the crime is robbing food, money, or even hurting the people you love, your family. You will soon read about how being a criminal starts or even stops, where it begins, with whom it begins with and why crime seems to be the only way out sometimes for the poor. Their inadequacies are, however, themselves reflections of economic and related social circumstances that determine opportunities, influence motives, help shape attitudes, and fix the daily prospects for health and well being. A person may experience internal conflict in trying to decide which set of values, attitudes, and codes of behavior to accept and internalize. For example, to a kid living in a neighborhood that has many criminal types, these people may be symbols of economic and social success because they have money, expensive clothes, fancy cars, and other material possessions that inspire respect and jealousy. The kids may draw to the criminal life style of these people because they want the same symbols of success for themselves. At the same time, several youths in the neighborhood may have good relationships with parents or other adults who are noncriminal in their life styles and who try to instill non delinquent values in them. A young person exposed to both types of influences must balance out their merits and decide whether to accept the values of one set of associates or those of the other. Between 1990 and 2002 there were 13,504 males and 3,168 females who died as a result of homicide. This showed that males, ages 12 through 17, were four times more likely than females to be murdered. • 7. Building Effective Service Learning Programs in Local... Kids these days have a bad rap. Adults who don t regularly interact with high school students may only see the negative side of the adolescents in their community. In fact, sixty one percent of American adults are convinced that today s youth face a crisis in their values and morals, look at teenagers with misgiving and view them as undisciplined, disrespectful, and unfriendly (Latham, 2003). One way to help change the attitudes of adults and also encourage youth personal development is service learning programs in local communities. By participating in service learning programs, students learn how to navigate group dynamics, diversify their peer group to include adults and people from different backgrounds and begin to feel a sense of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Middleton Kelly, 1996). One of the biggest issues stems from a lack of facilitation on the larger social issues involved with community service. When there is a proper forum to discuss the experiences they receive while volunteering, students are given a chance to understand how policies and civic involvement play a direct role in the lives of people in their communities. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). Another issue is content involved in the community service activities. If teenagers are thrust into a volunteer situation they don t understand or feel that they are simply being assigned made up work, it can actually have a detrimental effect (Tugend, 2010). One way to make the most of volunteer opportunities is to specifically design the content around areas of student development. By focusing on key content areas, students learn how to use their current skill set to navigate new experiences and difficult situations. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). A well organized and thoughtful volunteer opportunity has proven time and time again to be a positive experience for youth. There are many studies that discuss the character building benefits of service learning. Students who participate have higher academic achievements, develop critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, planning and organizing skills and expand their social circles. A student who volunteers is more likely to volunteer and vote as adult. (Latham, 2003). There are several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Houston Cougars Research Paper The Houston Cougars were the darlings of the 2015 college football season thanks to their head coach Tom Herman, leading them to a 13 1 record and a Peach Bowl victory over the Florida State Seminoles. Herman is not your average college football head coach. While he believes in the X s and O s, he also takes prides in analytics, specifically two sets of stats. As we see in the world of sports, every aspect of the game is starting to become more based around analytics. At AAC media days, Herman talked about those two stats and more with SB Nation s Steven Godfrey and Bill Connelly. When asked about what two stats Herman looks at the most. He mentioned the turnover battle and yards. First numbers I look at are turnovers, Herman said. Second numbers I look at are yards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Houston, the turnover battle was their friend last season as their turnover margin was plus 1.5 per game. When you have a turnover margin at that rate, you will win a lot of football games. The only game the Cougars lost last season due to the turnover battle not being in their favor was to the Connecticut Huskies. In that game alone, Houston turned over the ball four times. That is a not recipe for success. However, Herman is also right when he says yards don t matter because in that game against UConn, the Cougars out gained the Huskies 318 315. Finally, one more stat that Herman spoke about was explosive plays, which Houston charts and it s another why they are successful. If you win the turnover battle and the explosive play battle in the same game, you win it 98 percent of the time, Herman told Godfrey and Connelly. Obviously, these are the stats to success for the Cougars and thus far it has worked out for them. It will be interesting to see if these stats continue to work in their favor this upcoming season as they try to repeat as AAC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Grief, Loss, And Loss Jaehun Lee D Block, Film Studies 10/16/16 Grief, Loss, and Everything Josh Kos would Floss (this is not the actual title) Grief and loss are some of the most defining characteristics of the human experience. Therefore, dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and narrative storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out in all of us, just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook. In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems. Suppressing her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co worker Robby, her sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in suppressing memories of her husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an awkward limbo between her past and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of grief leads to paranoia for Amelia. As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a different limbo between reality and inside her mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her situation becomes progressively worse. Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout The Babadook. However, while trees and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Comparing Karma, Reincarnation, Rebirth, Moksha, and Nirvana Describe the difference between Karma, Reincarnation, Rebirth, Moksha, and Nirvana in relation to both Hinduism and Buddhism. Karma is the connotation of causality that past actions influence future events. This is the same for both Buddhism and Hinduism. Both also believe in an endless cycle of births known as endless cycle of births, known as samsara. and release from this cycle of rebirths. Hindus believe in an everlasting soul (atman) that is reincarnated almost intact from birth to birth, and through spiritual practice Hindus seek release (moksha, also known as liberation) so that the soul can join with the Divine God, known as Brahmin. How does Buddhism differ? Buddhism believes in escaping the cycle of rebirths not through coming to an ultimate soul (it doesn t believe in this), but through Nirvana the ultimate relinquishing of attachment to materialism by transcending response to earthy feeling. In this way, one ends suffering by escaping the cycle of rebirths. and reincarnations. Karma from past life can affect the happenings in a present one according to both Hinduism and Buddhism, but Buddhism believes that one can escape this karma and cycle of rebirths by practicing the 8 fold path which culminates in Nirvana. With this Nirvana too, one gains a spirit of meditation or blissful mindfulness which is the epitome of the Hindu Moksha. (The Buddha Garden.) B. The foundations for a successful business can perhaps emerge in a number of different areas, but there is little doubt that an optimal value chain is critical to starting an organization down the path towards enduring success. Defining the value chain A value chain adds value to raw materials as they pass through the production process and then, inevitably, through the marketing and sales process. In a broad sense, it is about identifying value via identifying areas of comparative advantage and how the organization can bolster its market standing and its overall value and impact. It may also be noted that the value chain is, for all intents and purposes, all internal activities and processes within the organization that yield outputs in one form or another. It entails (or should entail) everything from channel objectives to distribution strategy to marketing program supports to supplier configuration and collaboration to communication plans (Burrows et al, 2012). Porter (1985) earned international fame by offering a very comprehensive and insightful overview of the value chain. He took a process view of organizations and perceived organizations as being, for all intents and purposes, a system (with sub systems and even further sub systems) that take inputs and transform them into outputs. There are transformational processes that manifest themselves all along the value chain and, ultimately, can determine cost and profit outcomes. The acquisition of resources, and the consumption of resources, largely determines how an organization finds value and optimizes it. In the view of Porter (1985), the ... Given that Banksy is quite popular and well known, his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but not as a credible resource in regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity towards political and socially controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues surrounding the treatment of migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. However, his expertise in the subject is made even less reliable due to the lack of relevance Steve Jobs has with the actual situation. For example, Steve Jobs was the son of a migrant and not a migrant himself and he was adopted and had never met his migrant father therefore he is not an accurate representative for refugees or migrants. Banksy s visual appeal to ethos is virtually non existent for those unfamiliar with his works. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s Progress was written by John Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the individual. John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original tale. Roman Life Research Paper Comparing Sculpture and Painting in Roman Life Introduction When contemplating the art forms of sculpture and painting, in ancient Rome, one has to consider not only how they differ in form but also how they differed in use. Although both art forms were used for a sense of status, one is deeply rooted in realism and the other in fantasy. In order to compare these two distinct art forms, I will first look at them individually and discuss their uses in Roman life, then I will draw conclusions based on my findings. Discussion Following the Second Macedonian War, (200 197BCE), the influence of Greek sculpture was greatly felt in Rome and many imitations of Greek brass sculptures were being reproduced in marble for Roman patrons. • 28. Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed to air. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure. There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in space. With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal flight. Powered flight continuously uses energy to fly for periods of time, such as throwing an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices, such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging, Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3) This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this sentiment, digging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The traditional role impressed upon women was that of a sexuality that is passive and lacks concern for the woman s pleasure . Unfortunately, even today, this idea of women s sexuality has not been eradicated, as evidenced by literature published years after this time Daniel Shank Cruz focuses on the book The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex, published twenty five years after Rape Fantasies. Cruz points out that the problem with these fantasies is not that the women in the fantasies enjoy their encounters, because these women claim their sexuality by finding pleasure in a sexual situation. However, the problem lies in that the women in this book are disempowered, allowed to be used as impersonal sex objects, denied any control over their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Minimum Weight Design of a Wing Box Subjected to Bending Minimum weight design of a wing box subjected to bending Abstract: Aircraft wing is one of the best examples of an efficient structural design. A variety of structural arrangements are possible to satisfy design goals. The endeavour is always to arrive at a minimum weight of a wing structure for a given set of design conditions. The main load carrying structure of a wing is the torsion box formed by front spar, rear spar, and top spar amp; bottom skins. In the preliminary design stages an effect is made to arrive at an efficient design of this box structure. The load carrying capacity of this box structure is largely controlled by the buckling of the compression cover plate. In order to get a minimum weight design of such a box the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first approach requires a thorough understanding of the buckling phenomenon. The top cover of a wing box beam is a long and wide plate. For all practical purposes it will buckle as a wide column where the critical buckling stress is given by the Euler s buckling formula This will be an unacceptably low value. In order to increase the buckling stress, ribs are employed with provide lateral support to the compression cover plate along their lines of attachment. Various possible buckling modes can occur which are briefly discussed below If the flexural rigidity of the tension cover is very low, the box can buckle as a whole. If the tension cove is flexural very stiff and the ribs are very weak then the buckling pattern will be as shown here As the deflection stiffness of the ribs increase the buckling pattern changes forming more than one half sine waves over the length of the box as shown in the next figure Here the ribs are represented as deflectional springs and the buckled wave form is very much exaggerated. The idea here is that the ribs are not stiff enough to provide nodes at their location. This is illustrated in the next figure The ribs are just stiff enough to enforce nodes along their lines of attachment with the skin. My Papa Knultz Analysis Battered Knuckles While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reflect back to his sentimental memories with his father. In brief, Roethke leaves the audience with an unclear understanding of what the meaning of the poem is. In discussions of My Papa s Waltz, one controversial issue is the father casually plays with the son. On the other hand, some readers argue that the father is abusing his son straightforwardly. However, after contemplating the context of the poem and gathering information from the text, it has become undeniably clear that the poem is about the father abusing his son. Ultimately, Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to illustrate a picture of his nostalgic remembrance for the readers. The authors controversial poem becomes clear when one carefully examines the context of the poem. In stanza one, line one, Roethke describes the papa in the poem as having whiskey on [his] breath. This line illuminates the idea of the father being intoxicated; hence, can lead to a change in behavior. Further, the change in behavior can be the cause of violence towards the child in the poem. However, it quickly flips the script on this as the next scene, in which we receive the shows first dialogue, depicts one of the women from the bed, named Tina, standing in front of a mirror, looking at an ovulation test. Mulvey writes about what is called the mirror phase, The mirror phase occurs...with the result that his recognition of himself is joyous in the he imagines his mirror image to be a more complete, more perfect than he experiences his own body. Recognition is thus mislaid with mis recognition: the image recognized is conceived as the reflected body of self, but its mis recognition as superior projects (60). This concept is directly applicable to this scene, as the character standing in front of the mirror represents a stage of identification for the viewer.
