Does Nitric Acid Affect The Synthesis Of Nitroacetanilide
In this experiment, nitric acid and sulfuric acid were mixed to form nitronium ions, hydronium ions,
and hydrogen sulfate ions. The amide on the acetanilide is an electron donating group, an activator,
which means that when an activated electrophile is added to the acetanilide, it will add in the ortho,
para positions. In this case, the activated electrophile is the nitronium ions, which react with the
acetanilide and form an arenium ion. Then, the hydrogen sulfate ions pull off the hydrogen that is
attached to the same carbon as the nitronium ion, allowing the lone pair that is now on the carbon the
hydrogen left from to form a double bond with the electron deficient (positively charged) carbon next
to it. The products formed are the ortho and para substitutions of nitroacetanilide. ... Show more

The crude solid was dissolved in hot ethanol and then, was allowed to cool. As the solution cooled the
solubility of the compounds in the solution drops, which allowed the nitroacetanilide to recrystallize
from the solution. The size of the crystals depends on the rate of cooling; a slower cooling rate leads
to the formation of larger crystals. In order to collect the crude solid and the recrystallized solid,
vacuum filtration was used. Vacuum filtration uses reduced pressure to force the solution and air
through the filter paper, allowing for the solid to

Postmodernism Or The Cultural Logic Of Late Capitalism...
Fredric Jameson is admired as a standout amongst the most imperative and persuasive artistic and
social pundit and theoretician in the Marxist convention of the English speaking world. In his work
Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism Jameson endeavors to portray the way of
social creation in the second half of the twentieth century, the period of late capitalism, and to
recognize it from different manifestations of social generation of going before capitalist periods. A
generous part of Jameson s Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism is committed to
differential investigation of masterpieces and building design from what Jameson terms high
innovation and postmodern works. He describes the postmodern mode of generation as a social
prevailing in the wake of ideas like depthlessness or the concealment of depth, the fading of influence
and pastiche, terms which as per Jameson identify with the postmodern type of production and
experience.
The idea of postmodernism quickly raises the issue of periodization, involved by the prefix post doled
out to the time of modernism. What was the starting point of modernism and when did it end? Is it
safe to say that it is conceivable to define clear boundaries between modernism and postmodernism?
Jameson accepts that it is conceivable to discuss social modes with in a characterized course of events.
In any case, he limits his periodization of postmodernism to the unbinding idea of social

Drown, By Junot Diaz
I usually make a fortune on Saturdays, selling to those kids going down to Belmar or out to Spruce
Run. (Drown). The narrator, Yunior, in the story Drown by Junot Diaz is a drug dealer and does not
want anyone to recognize him so that he may uphold a positive image. Unlike Yunior in Drown the
narrator in the poem What Work Is by Philip Levine depicts the struggles men and women face when
trying to obtain honest work. We stand in the rain in a long line waiting at Ford Highland Park, for
work (What Work Is). The two literary works both suggest one must live a life of chance when work is
hard to come by.
Class is an apparent feature of any society, especially in the United States. Americans tend to overlook

He appears to resent his father for the way he treats his mother, yet still wants a relationship with him.
He is self aware and witnesses the struggles that people like him go through every day in their lives of
poverty and drug abuse. The neighborhood shapes the life of Yunior, so it plays an important role in
the story. Most of the anxiety is caused by the fact that he cannot leave his neighborhood, because of
possible fears of the outcome once he is in the outside world. The pool is another great setting as it is
described in a way that is like the neighborhood where the Yunior lives, The water feels good... while
everything above me is loud and bright, everything below is whispers... this quote coincides with the
fact that the Yunior is trapped, but he d rather stay below than come up and see the outcome of him
leaving for the outside world like Beto. The author titled the work Drown to refer to Yunior as
drowning in his life without a career or future.
At times, one can wonder what drives a person not to want more from life. Yunior is an unmotivated
young man, who appears to not have much going for him. He does not have people who encourage
him to work hard, or do something better with his life. The people he surrounds himself with are not
of good influence on him. Me and Beto used to steal like mad from these places, two, three hundred
dollars of shit in an outing. (Drown). Only knowing a life of wrong doings.

School Lunch Essay
Skipping Dessert
When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every day
in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly
recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how
horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are
tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always
continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply
changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries.
Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet
fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can
understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. Allowing the NSLP
to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their children would be
getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and malnutrition in the
United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices.
In the article School Lunches , the author discusses whether or not the government s National School
Lunch Program (NSLP) should be allowed to regulate what is served in school lunches. The NSLP is a

Televised Courtrooms In Canada
Televised Courtrooms
Against
If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if
they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias
and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict
might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the
reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not
understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be
guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything
going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an
opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone
to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be
the jury being swayed by the public to select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show

murders and robberies occurring in Canada. The media will catch fire over these felonies causing
many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even

since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and
modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there are
many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. The point here is that what the media

Jellyfish Population Control Of Fish
Loggerheads also help to maintain food webs. An important example of this is jellyfish population
control. As a result of overfishing, jellyfish are slowly replacing formerly abundant fish species
because reduced fish populations allow for less competition for food. Jellyfish prey on fish eggs and
larvae, and increases in jellyfish are detrimental to the recovery of fish populations. Loggerheads and
other sea turtle species consume jellyfish and consequently reduce populations of jellyfish, allowing
for a control of their population (Wilson et al. 2010).
Loggerhead sea turtles also have long migrations and these migrations transport nutrients and energy
from one area to another. The migration of males from foraging grounds to nesting beaches

Syria Crisis Essay
Under the request of National Security Adviser Flynn, the following is a summary on the current
situation in Syria and a recommendation for the best course of action to undertake. In it you will find a
set of possible policy options to address the situation.
SITUATION
In 2011 the civil war in Syria began after protesters clashed against Syrian security forces leaving
many protestors dead. What began as protests against the government of Syrian President Bashar Al
Assad calling for him to step aside because of political disagreement and the deaths of protestors, has
evolved into a multi dimensional war that has seen various groups join the fight against one another.
The United States became involved in the conflict after the use of ... Show more content on

2. Although President Bashar Al Assad has committed atrocities against the people of Syria, he
remains the only force in the region that can keep radical terrorists groups, such as the
Islamic State, from advancing. Therefore it is critically important that he remain in power. 3. In order
to successfully defeat the Islamic State it is imperative that the United State and Russia cooperate
together in a concerted effort to eliminate the Islamic State. 4. There must be an establishment of a no
fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from
the war.
What these goals mean is that we will ultimately have to select an option that allows us to achieve
these tasks, but that will inevitably lead to disagreement between the United States and our allies. The
United States must face the reality that certain allies will not agree with our decision. The national
security of the United States must be our ultimate goal.
THE DILEMMA WE FACE
The problem that we have is that in agreeing to allow President Assad to remain in power, we will run
into much backlash from allies. Saudi Arabia will not be in agreement as they want to see President
Assad toppled, and want a group that is more aligned to their interests in power. Israel will not be
satisfied if Assad remains because of historic conflict between the two states, as well as President
Assad s long support for the terrorist group Hezbollah. Our ally, Turkey, also is not in

Children will benefit from aggressive treatment for hearing and ear care. There are three main areas of
focus for this treatment. The first is to ensure normalized hearing through either the insertion of ear
tubes or in some cases the use of hearing aids, secondly, proactive measures should be used to limit
recurring fluid in the middle ear through the use of medication and lastly, it is important to prevent
chronic ear infections or ear disease through a regiment of adequate ear care (Stoel Gammon, 2001).
For children with hearing loss, including an approach utilizing the teaching of sign language may help
to improve language development (Venail et al., 2004). There are misperceptions that introducing sign
language to infants/very young children will slow language development; this has been found to be
untrue. Sign language will not interfere with the progress of acquiring speech and language, but rather
it may actually aid in its development. (Fowler,

Video Game Industry Has Undergone Significant Changes From...
The video game industry has undergone significant changes from the early days of Atari. It now
covers multiple sectors and generates more revenue than the movie and music industry. Last year total
revenue in the U.S. eclipsed $23.5 billion, jumping 5% from a year earlier. A big part of that increase
is due to a shift away from physical games towards digital software. In the past 5 years video game
publishers have focused on expanding their direct to consumer channels through robust digital
offerings. Meanwhile, the emergence of mobile gaming, eSports and virtual reality are poised to take
the industry by storm in the next few years. With the industry growing at a rapid clip, it should be near
the top of any investor s list.
Video Game Industry
For starters, the video game industry consists of three primary sectors; PC, console and mobile. PC
gaming is currently the biggest moneymaker followed by console and mobile. However, mobile is
poised to eclipse both PC and console sales in the next 5 years. Console gaming remains a blue
chipper in the industry with limited upside or downside potential. Despite the booming popularity of
PC games, computer sales continue to struggle. Names like HP (HPQ) and IBM (IBM) continue to
point to a weak PC market as the source of its problems. Both stocks are down double digits in the
past 12 months and should only be pursued as long term investments.
Console gaming, on the other hand, has become so advanced that they are essentially

Analysis Of The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
The Love Song of T.S Eliot
In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock the reader can clearly understand that T.S Eliot is
straightforward as one can get within a poem. In the beginning of the poem, one can infer that
Prufrock is being used as a facade to convey Eliot s inner self who is an introvert that doesn t quite fit
in with the modern day society. Prufrock sees his personal life as a burden that he cannot mend while
he tries to conform into the middle class society that everyone views as pristine. Meanwhile, being
scrutinized by others he has also deemed himself as weak and unworthy of life. We are choosing to
shed light on Eliot s inadequate personal life and on how others perceive him as well as how he

In college Eliot met the love of his life and he soon married Vivien Haigh Wood. This would make
Eliot a new person in the way he would write and view the world. He self trained himself to make his
writing more modern in efforts to reach a bigger crowd (Bush). These efforts would eventually pay off
with writings like Ulysses, The Wasteland, and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. These writings
would give T.S Eliot the strength to quit his job in a local bank and live off the success of his writings.
Eliot used his life struggles as his inspiration to create his successful writings just like how he used it
to create Prufrock in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . T.S Eliot uses his poem as an outlet to
express what he has experienced throughout his personal life through Prufrock. In his poem, he makes
the character, Prufrock, becomes very judgmental on himself since Eliot has encountered many self
degrading life lessons. Prufrock believes that his worthlessness terminates his chances of any woman
falling in love him and which is the cause of his hesitance to approach women. Eliot is the same way
since he got his heartbroken by his first wife, Vivienne Haigh wood Eliot. Eliot s habitable
tentativeness has always restrained him from being with a woman and what Vivienne does to him

Mexican Folk Songs Or Corridos
Mexican folk songs or corridos have encounter great change over the years. Some of the changes of
corridos can be credited to the different culture we live in now. Corridos in the past have been about
the Mexican American War, but most recently corridos began to be about life struggles such as
immigration and the violent drug war. While the topics of corridos have changed over the years,
corridos keep a familiar format with focusing on key issues of oppression, daily life, and socially
relevant events. In addition, corridos may help spread attention to events going around society that has
not been brought up in the media. This at time may be informative or controversial depending on what

The Complexity Of Endogenous Ligands For P2YR
Endogenous ligands for P2YR The most abundant and best characterized endogenous ligand for P2YR
is the nucleotide ATP. ATP binds to all P2YRs except P2Y6R and P2Y14R12. Its binding
characteristics exemplify the complexity of P2YR signalling: at low concentrations it is the only
native agonist for P2Y11R, but at higher concentrations it functions as a partial agonist for P2Y1R and
P2Y13R, or as an antagonist for human P2Y4R or P2Y12R11, 12, 15. Other nucleotides, such as ADP,
UTP, UDP or UDP glucose, exhibit more specificity for individual P2YRs. For example, ADP
activates P2Y1R, P2Y12R and P2Y13R, whereas UTP primarily binds to P2Y2R and P2Y4R, and to a
lesser extent to P2Y6R, for which UDP is its preferred native ligand. P2Y14R is ... Show more content

Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School Essay
What is one change that could be made to make schools better? What do you think should be
changed? In my opinion, one rule that should be changed to make our school better is give
authorization for kids to chew gum. In fact, scientist have established that chewing gum can help
enhance the student learning capability in numerous ways. Therefore, the rationale being is that kids
that chew gum should be allowed to in school reason being it could help them stay more focused and
become enhanced students, it could also help enhance their memory, and I have heard people in school
saying that when they are chewing gum it helps them stay relaxed. However, chewing gum should be
allowed in school is on behalf of it has been scientifically proven that chewing gum can cause students
to be more focused and manufacture students become better, help them enhance their memory, and
also I have heard from people scoffed around school that when they chew gum it helps them stay
relaxed.
Kids should be able to chew gum during school reason being is that it has been scientifically proven
that chewing gum can form students to stay more focused in making them better student. On the other
hand, the principal s and teachers think gum should not be allowed because they think gum is an
interruption considering that the students would most likely be blowing bubbles and making
commotion with their bubble gum. However, if that did happen all the teachers would have to say is
everyone needs to provoke blowing bubbles and then students should stop. When the teacher gives
out, work it has been scientifically proven to help them stay more focused, so that means chewing
gum could cause the students want to be less focus on their surroundings and stay more focused on
getting their work done. Then, if they start getting their work done, that means that they are becoming
superior students.
Another, reason kids and students should be able to chew gum during school is it has also been
scientifically proven to help improve the students memory. For example, when students are studying
for a test it could help them remember what they studied about. Next, it can also help them remember
what they learned that day during school thanks to they were

expectations on how people need to appear in order to be better looking. These people are viewed as
healthy because they are successful when really it is just as unhealthy for people to be underweight as
it is to be overweight. Magazines are generally blamed for rises in eating disorders from their use of
thin models. While showing people what is good for them fashion wise or appearance wise, they are
contradicting themselves by using overly thin models. Arty 15, wrote in the Sunday Mail (May 13
2007) I think magazines put the most pressure on teens, they seem to sort of set the standard about

Puritanism Vs Deism
In the mid to late 17th century, New England settlers were attempting to break away from Britain and
begin a new society. They wanted to reinvent their own culture, govern themselves, and begin what
they hoped would one day become a prosperous nation. One thing they wanted to have the liberty of
practicing was religion, and having the choice of which particular religions they wished to follow.
Puritanism and Deism were two different religions that were practiced in 17th century New England,
and the differences between them sometimes were grounds for confrontations and conflict. The

This statement shows Franklin s view of our Creator, which is the belief that no evil existed in the
world, so humans were not created with the notion that they are unworthy and undeserving of God s
grace. Franklin goes on to say, And therefore every Creature must be equally esteem d by the Creator
(Franklin, 27). According to Deists, their God was not a biased God, and every human was created
equal, with no one having a better chance to make it to heaven than others.
The Puritan and Deist views on afterlife are also an area where these two religions are not in sync with
one another. Puritans believed in the concept of predestination, meaning that it was determined
whether one was going to spend afterlife in heaven or hell at the time of their creation. In Day of
Doom, Michael Wigglesworth, a minister in Massachusetts during the 17th century, explains how
there will come a day when Christ returns to earth to judge who will be destined for heaven or doomed
to hell. He writes that Christ explains to those who are being sent to hell deserve their eternal
punishment, despite the fact that it was a foregone conclusion due to the fact that it had been
predetermined. He also explains that in order to accept the offer of God s salvation, one must be able
to comprehend the meaning of such an offer. This puts certain members of society at an obvious
advantage over others. For example, a middle aged white male who has had some degree of education
would surely

Faulty Truths In William Faulkner s Interview
William Faulkner s denial of differentiating between the factual truth and undeterminable knowledge
deviates readers attention from the direct significance of characters state of mind, which also
introduces an additional concept of their apparent insanity.
A reader of Faulkner s work possesses faulty truths, which are nothing but mere constructive
assumptions that have been built upon through a series of events taking place in the story. It is often
difficult to comprehend what message Faulkner is trying to convey, hence the blurry border between
truth and assumption becomes evident. Regardless, he still refuses to further explain himself. For
instance, during an interview, Jean Stein asked Faulkner, Some people say they can t understand your
writing, even after they read it two or three times. What approach would you suggest for them? to
which he responds, Read it four times (Faulkner Interview ). Faulkner is suggesting much more.
Not only is the contrast of truth and assumption a reoccurring theme, but it is also represented by
many of Faulkner s fictional characters, settings, and plot events. This representation is also a key
factoring in diverting a reader s attention. For instance, in the case of Faulkner s fictional setting,

Fear and Control of the Unknown Essay
Throughout history many communities have been persecuted for being different from the general
public. Society has often forced these unique individuals to assimilate or be constrained because of the

One of the most apparent and important themes in both One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest and

groups considered socially beneath them during this discriminatory era. In Incidents in the Life... the
violence is even more apparent. Gruesome accounts of punishments inflicted upon misbehaving slaves
by masters like Mr. Litch, who [...]tied a rope around a man s body, and suspended him from the
ground. A fire was kindled over him, from which was suspended a piece of fat pork. As this cooked,
the scalding drops of fat continually fell on the bare flesh (Jacobs 51).
Many characters in both novels became so desperate that they believed that death was the only
practical means of escape. Both Billy Bibbit and Cheswick in One Flew... decided suicide was their
only way out and in Incidents in the Life...Linda often wishes for death for her and for her loved ones
(68). Even McMurphy, the brave protagonist of One Flew..., hints at his own demise when he chooses
to stay after the party rather than make an easy escape (Kesey 166). This leads the reader to believe
that for McMurphy, the only method to escape with dignity is through death. The Chief evidently
agreed and in the end finished the task for him (279).

Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration Essay
Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration In 1852, there were over 20,000 Chinese
immigrants living in California (Franks). Americans reacted very negatively to this influx, and their
negative sentiments were made apparent in the California Supreme Court s People v. Hall verdict,
which rendered Chinese testimony unreliable. Then, in 1882, President Chester Arthur signed the
Chinese Exclusion Act, a law that prohibited Chinese laborers from entering the United States (Foner,
651). From the 1850s up to the Exclusion Act of 1882, Americans felt increasingly negative
sentiments towards the Chinese. As illustrated through newspaper and magazine depictions along the
Pacific Coast, the Americans perceived the Chinese as inferior and ... Show more content on

The scenery is drawn with many dark shades on the walls and floor, depicting it as an alley or a
similarly secluded location. Here, the Chinese man partakes in his devious acts, away from the public
eye. This sets a dark, mischievous tone, and in the drawing the little boy is smoking a cigar,
presumably as a result of the Chinese man s negative influence. The little boy is underage and is
engaging in immoral behavior. The Chinese man has corrupted him simply through association, and
by smoking a cigar at his age he has been corrupted. This depiction shows the underlying perception
that the Chinese were an infestation that were negatively influencing and corrupting the population.
This perception of the Chinese as a menace is also apparent in the image Amusing the Child from The
Wasp. This picture depicts the Chinese man as a diabolical creature: He crawls around on four legs
like a dog, and has large scaly hands with sharp, thin nails. The Chinese man wears tattered clothing
and from behind, a long, red devil s tale extends from his body. Also, the image has two Americans
sitting on chairs: Sitting in the left chair is President Chester Arthur and in the right chair is a baby,
which represents the Pacific Coast. The Chinese man s appearance not only degrades him, but also
establishes the view that the Chinese

The Creature From Jekyll Island Essay
The title of this book by G. Edward Griffin may make you think about a frightfulness story along the
lines of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. However terrible it is, The Creature from Jekyll Island is not fiction.
The Creature from Jekyll Island is a second take a gander at the Federal Reserve and how it works
with our legislature, and additionally how it works outside our administration and in co operation with
significant world keeping money associations. Essentially it accounts the development of the Federal
Reserve on Jekyll Island, Georgia in 1910 by individuals from a saving money cartel keeping in mind
the end goal to shield them from rivalry. In spite of the fact that 15 years of age, despite everything it
reverberates today. Establishing individuals were Nelson W. Aldrich, Abraham Piatt Andrew, Frank A.

Political Party Issues
Political Party Issues In political campaigns, the viewpoints of the individual candidates are often
reflective of the positions of their political parties. In the upcoming presidential election, there are
issues which have the power to divide the nation. One of the most divisive issues at present is the
question of gay marriage and whether or not the federal government should weigh in on what has thus
far been a states rights issue. Both on the state and national levels, the perspective of the people in the
various political jurisdictions will determine the way in which they vote. If a party agrees with the
population s view on an issue, the people will be more likely to vote with that party. The two major
parties, the Republicans and Democrats, have officially been against gay marriage although a few
have differed from the party s position. Less is known where some of the third parties, such as the
Green Party, Libertarian Party, and Constitution Party, stand on the issue. I support same sex marriage
because I see no valid arguments against it. The majority of arguments against gay marriage are based
on religious perspective. In the United States, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees
separation of church and state. Therefore, religion should not have a place in either the formulation or
implementation of legislation, including questions of who has the right to get married in this country.
The Green Party was founded with the intention of making

Information, Knowledge, And The Dissemination Of...
Information, and the dissemination thereof, is based on usefulness. It is the foundation upon which we
as humans derive knowledge and understanding from to eventually communicate across platforms and
cultures. As it continues to permeate society, the formation, understanding and transmission of
information becomes heavily specified and relative to the type of information collected, who it is
useful to and how it will be used to generate widespread understanding. This is evidenced in how
people seek and use information in their modern daily lives. A widely accepted model of this process
comprises itself of the following components: data, information, knowledge, understanding and
wisdom to an extent and the synthesis of these components is foundational to understanding how
information is relative and consumed in its specificity today (Ackoff, 1989). Using differing
arguments to examine differing perspectives, I will seek to establish the place of information within
this hierarchy and how it applies to how we establish the use of information as it persists as a
standalone concept in today s society. When people determine the usefulness of data to transform it
into information and therefore understanding, it is essential to establish a mode by which this occurs.
One attempt to do this is evidenced in Russell Ackoff s (1989) article, From Data to Wisdom . As a
general argument, Ackoff (1989) seeks to qualify a model consisting of: data, information, knowledge,
understanding

The Representation Of Gender And Media
Nowadays the representation of gender in media has become very common. It is all about the
representation of phenomenally rapid change: change s in gender relation transformations in media
technologies, regulatory frameworks, content ownership and theoretical revolutions in the approaches
used to make sense of gender representations. Gender and media aims to freeze the frame, press the
pause button, or hit the refresh key to construct that how media shows social stereotypes. There are
many advertisements which influences people, the one such advertisement is of Van Heusen brand
advertising for men s wear tie. These advertisement clearly reflects gender inequality.
Since then, of course, the role of women in society and representation in advertising has come a long
way. The feminist movement in the 70s helped to break down barriers for women, leading to improved
career opportunities and more equality in the workplace and the home. We can see in the picture how a
girl is lying down near a shoe, and at the very top of it a message is written in bold whit letters keep
her where she belongs. This shows that how they have compared a woman with a shoe and the women
is without the clothes on her body which shows gender biased advertisement. These seems that they
are trying to say that women s are not equal to men. In the second half picture, at the very top it is
written that show her it is men world which is kind of reflecting the inequality s in the gender. And in

The Life Of A Paleontologist
The Life Of A Paleontologist
Paleontology is the study of the history of life on earth based on fossils. Fossils are the remains of
plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and single celled living things that have been replaced by rock
material or impressions of organisms preserved in rock. Overall it incorporates knowledge
occasionally from biology, geology, ecology, anthropology, archaeology, and computer science to
understand the processes that have led to the origination and extinction of the different types of
organisms since life arose. Henceforth, a paleontologist is a scientist who studies the history of
organic life on Earth, primarily focusing on the past.

Paleontologists use geologic maps to identify places that has the potential of finding a fossil. Geologic
maps show the age and the type of rock found on the Earth s surface. For example, in the case of
finding dinosaur fossils Paleontologists locate sedimentary rocks from the Mesozoic Era on a geologic
map, and go to those areas to hunt for fossils. Paleontologists also need to know how to use a
topographic map to locate a fossils elevation and to determine the best sites for paleontological
excavation.
Paleontologists often study amber. It is a type of fossil resin that can preserve tissue as delicate as
dragonfly wings. Some ants get trapped in amber while eating leaves, allowing scientists to know
exactly what they ate, and how they ate it. Also the air bubbles trapped in amber can conclude what
atmospheric changes were around when the organism lived, with the help of studying meteorology
(Landing. Ed, 2015) .
I interviewed Dr. Ed Landing, a paleontologist at the New York State Museum. Paleontologists who
work for a museum might see his/her days split between research and service, service might include
answering questions of public, answering emails of government agencies about different fossils and
often giving tours of the museum. The service also includes preservation, conservation, and data
basing of existing collections so that the collection might be used in research elsewhere (Landing. Ed,
2015) . Loaning or providing pictures of

National And State Curriculum Standards
National and State Curriculum Standards
Common Core continues to have many teachers in an uproar, but the development of these standards
was to help synchronize curriculum across the United States to ensure that students were college and
career ready once they graduated high school. In 2009, the National Governors Association Center for
Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers (2010) were responsible for developing the
Common Core standards. These groups were two private organizations that consisted of 48 state
leaders, two territories, and the District of Columbia.
The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School
Officers (2010) states that the actual development of the Common Core standards were completed in
two phases. Phase one of the development of the Common Core standards was the college and career
readiness portion of the standards. The standards were revealed and given and met over allow time for
teachers, parents and school administrators to voice opinions, concerns and make suggestions on how
to improve them. Phase two was to incorporate the final version of the K 12 standards Common Core
which is used today. During this time, the knowledge and participation of teachers were utilized in the
development process. Teachers participated in groups and committees and provided input when the
Common Core standards were being developed.

helps students learn the difference between physical characteristics and character traits. Students will
begin by making personal connections to their own traits. Students will cut a large hole in piece of
construction paper as frame for their face. On the boarder they will use physical and inner
characteristics to describe themselves. They will partner with someone to add a feature they may have
not used. As students learn to describe each, they get more familiar with the main character. Each
book has multiple supporting characters, but only one main character. They will learn to focus
attention in illustrations and print, to the character s actions and feelings, and how they change
through the story.
Once the students are familiar with each character, they can begin activities to compare and contrast
the characters, their feelings, and their ideas. They will also analyze if the characters affected the traits
or feelings of the main character. As each lesson is taught, centers are developed for small group and
independent learning. Centers focus on student s interests and intelligences and go across the
curriculum. After creating a list of traits for each character, students will sort traits on Smart Board
and magnetic index cards. For the kinesthetic learner, students will crumble paper with characters on it

Islamic Financial System And Islamic Institutions
INTRODUCTION An Islamic Financial system could be simply defined as a financial system that is
based on the principles and values of Islam which mops up riba and guarantees a profit sharing
mechanism. Islamic Financial system has developed over past decades as an indication of Islamic
Worldwide view represented by the Shari ah. The profound basis of Islamic financial system surpasses
the interaction of factors of production and the behaviour of the economy. (Iqbal 1997) Shari ah is the
foundation on which Islamic finance is built. The mainstay of the Islamic Financial system is the
linkage between economic activities in the Islamic financial system and the real sector. The constancy
of currency is furthered in an Islamic financial system because money is not regarded as a commodity.
Islamic finance is equity based, asset backed, ethical, sustainable, environmentally and socially
responsible finance. It promotes risk sharing, connects the financial sector with the real economy, and
emphasizes financial inclusion and social welfare . (World Bank) Islamic financial system advocates
the highest level of governance and transparency because it is guided by principles of the Shari ah.
Generally, in any economy, financial systems (conventional and Islamic) exist in order to raise funds
and channel these funds into productive financial and economic activities. Thus, financial systems also
perform the function of mobilising surplus funds from economic agents and institutions and

Natural Rights Vs Transcendentalism Essay
The American philosophy of the 18 century emerged as an outstanding phenomenon that has made an
immense contribution to the development of the American state. The two most prominent personalities
with respect to the development of philosophical ideas were Thomas Jefferson and Ralf Waldo
Emerson with their theories of natural rights and the view of Transcendentalism respectively. While
both of their philosophies have developed to become equally important as a basis of the American
country, its principles of life, and the idea of an American person, they reflect on rather different
aspects and promote quite different outlooks on the personality. The theory of transcendentalism
promotes an idea that a person is complete in himself or herself and needs to listen to his or her
intuition and to act in a harmonious way. The idea of natural rights, in contrast to the previous one,

The natural rights by Jefferson proclaim that the rights are given by God, and people are not
empowered to break them. At the same time, transcendentalism was developed as a search for
spirituality and the revealing of religion. They examined the role of religion in the life of people and
sought for the ways to reach actual spirituality that, according to transcendentalists, was hidden in the
person s thoughts and soul. At the same time, the transcendentalism and natural rights tend to be rather
different. For example, while transcendentalism promotes intuition and personal thoughts as the basis
for behavior, the theory of natural rights puts the essential rights of people in the center and claims
that all interactions should be based on it. Hence, the transcendentalists might be said to promote the
strong idea of individualism that might have negative implications for the society while the natural
rights theory provides a basis for the harmonious relationship among the people within the

What Were The Key Social And Cultural Factors That Enabled...
Assessment 3 Short Essay 1000 words
What were the key social and cultural factors that enabled the Gospel to spread so quickly through the
Roman Empire? Using primary and secondary sources, discuss with particular reference to Paul s
writings and the Book of Acts.
Paul more than anyone was responsible for the spread of the Jesus movement into the Gentile world.
By the end of the first century Christianity had become an important religious force. Paul while
respectful of its Jewish origins moved the Christian faith into a position where it was no longer bound
by Jewish law and was able to embrace people of any cultural background. After his own conversion,
Paul passionately espoused his message from the Palestinian world through Asia Minor and southern
Europe to Rome, the heart of the empire. Some of his letters by Paul to fledgling churches throughout
the Roman Empire are contained in the New Testament and outline Paul s theology. He insisted that
Gentiles had as much access to the faith as Jews and that freedom from the Law set everyone free. It
was this teaching which was essential for the development and success of the early church which
would otherwise have remained another Jewish sect.
The culture of Paul s time was Greco Roman. In the fourth century BC Alexander the Great dominated
the Near Eastern world and was a strong devotee of Greek culture. He brought the Greek language to
the Eastern world, a tongue that became the Lingua franca of early Christianity with

Internal Control for Inflows
Internal controls are important to a business. The internal controls provide a safeguard against errors
in the accounting system as well as the detection and prevention of fraud. With the inflows of the
company come many risks that need to be considered. The ways in which cash, sales, accounts
receivable, inventory, and production are handled within the company are different for each division.
The internal controls may vary from department to department, but the end result is to protect the
company from the risks that can arise.

If these controls fail, orders could be processed for fictitious customers, credit could be approved for
bad credit risks, and shipping documents could be created for goods that do not exist in the inventory
(Louwers et al., 2007, p. 253).
Another control that is essential to the sales portion is the delivery to the customer. The reason that
this control is important is because this is where the inventoried products or services leave the
company and is reassigned to the customer. Proper authorization is important; employees performing
each of these steps should sign transfer documents so they can be held accountable. This control
procedure will prevent misappropriation the goods or shipping the product to friends without billing
them (Louwers et al., 2007, p. 254). This control maintains the integrity of the process from the
company to the customer, and ensures that the customers are billed correctly.
Each of these controls for the sales portion of inflows are crucial to the company receiving timely and
appropriate payment for the goods and services provided to the customer.
Accounts Receivable
For a company, receiving payment for goods and services is an essential component to maintain the
ability to run operations from a financial standpoint. Regardless of how often billing is completed; the
ability to receive the payments from the customer can be the difference in having a healthy company

What And How The Software Requirement Specification ( Srs...
The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made
between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and
researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of
requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic
basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one
would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it
is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who
is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger
problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the
problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the
problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms
of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem
domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s
implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. In SRS is unnecessary to follow the exact
order but it is highly likely that completed one section with a problem another problem will pop up in

blacks to fit in with white people but he remembers how this difficult time brought the black

His hair was processed, but not to the point where it looked completely like white peoples hair. It still
looked somewhat natural. Back then, it was rare for an African American to be seen on television as
Cole was. This shows the slow transition of blacks becoming accepted into white society. While Gates
writes about his family was watching Cole on television it shows the togetherness of that time of

community was brought together at this time. The writer misses this later in life as one can tell by how
he writes about checking his own daughter s hair for the kitchen. The writer also refers to an incident
where he is sitting in an Arab restaurant listening to the radio. He writes about how he almost cried as

How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a
structural functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can help
physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a school not only
build friendships between team members, but could also give them that competitive edge to become
better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to continue playing basketball for a
school, he ll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to keep the grades above average.
Academically, at a college level, basketball is a good and bad thing. Majority of universities pay
attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades, just to ensure the schools success.
Paragraph 5 = From a structural functionalist perspective, you realize that by the game of basketball,

The Unknown Citizen, written by W. H. Auden, is a poem that describes a man who lived a life most
people would see as ideal. The man illustrated by this poem did what society expected him to do,
which resulted in a model life. This poem, however, can be seen in more than one way. Some may see
the story in the poem as a description of a man who had an unfulfilling life because he did exactly
what was expected of him. Instead of trying something new, exploring the world, or making a change,
the man did what everyone else regarded as acceptable. W. H. Auden s poem can be seen from two

Examples Of Flawless Execution
Flawless Execution
There are three elements to flawless execution. The flowing are: Leadership, execution engine, and
foundation. Although, this book is written by a pilot, these elements can be used in any business to
perform substantially. I know a lot of businesses fail to use these steps. I see the importance of these
steps now. That s why Pizza Artista still stands after a year in business and is kicking butt. Leadership
breaks down into three categories. Picture of the future, strategy, and intent. With the picture of the
future, a good leader will get everyone on the same page about it with specific details. Strategy will be
the plan of the organization. It comes with four key questions. What are we going to be in the future as
an organization? What are we going to deploy our resources into or against in order to get there? How
are we actually going to do this? When and how are we going to exit and get out with some style and
finesse? Answering these questions can make a huge difference. Lastly, your intensions. Everyone

and stay honest to yourself. If you stay honest to processes, you pass that down to the next person and
drill it into them. I know that people come up with their own processes. They are trying to find an
easier, faster way to do this. What they should be focused on is the process itself and perfect

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Deep Water Running
Introduction
This technical report will analyse existing evaluations of deep water running whilst also exploring the
advantages and disadvantages of deep water running.
Deep Water Running or Aqua Running is the replication of a running style where the subject is
submerged up to the neck in water and is unable to touch the ground (Masumoto et al 2017). It is used
by elite athletes in a variety of situations: as a rehabilitation technique, allowing the athlete to maintain
their cardiovascular fitness whilst injured, as a form of active recovery, increasing heart rate helping to
increase blood flow to muscles, and also in addition to a regular training programme, allowing more
cardiovascular training without excess strain on joints and muscles from the impact forces of running.
A flotation belt is normally used to carry out deep water training in order to copy the style used by the
runner on land (Kilgore).
The use of deep water running is advantageous to an athlete, less pressure is placed upon their joints
and spine allowing them to increase training volume without increasing the risk of injury. Meanwhile
the recovery process from the athletes major training sessions can also be sped up by deep water
running allowing the athlete to train under less fatigue in future sessions.
Deep water running can however provide some disadvantages to an athlete who uses it. To achieve the
same benefits from a training session they must work at a greater perceived effort. The use of deep

Essay On Darden
1. Darden Restaurants segments the sit down dining market by creating the idea of casual dining and
having three different chains of restaurants that aim to serve a specific group of consumers. Darden
has taken the total market of those who go to eat out and broken it down to a smaller segment of
people who do not want to go to a fancy restaurant, but at the same time want something more than
fast food. This segmentation is also known as demographic segmentation. Demographic segmentation
is when a market is divided up based on the age, gender, income, ethnicity, etc. Darden recognized the
demographics (primarily their income, age, and generation) of the people that would be coming to eat
at their restaurants, so that they are better able to cater to them. The CEO of Darden, Clarence Otis,

Acquainted With The Night By Robert Frost
Robert Frost s Acquainted with the Night is about a man who frequently journeys out at night and
roams about the city alone. He is familiar with the atmosphere around him and it s apparent he has
wandered far beyond the city. Throughout the poem the speaker does not communicate with anyone
and a sense of silence and suspense pervade his walks. It is understood that the speaker is very lonely
on his walks and often finds himself hoping someone would call out to him. As the speaker strolls
through the dark city streets midst the night, it s evident that he is deeply troubled and dismal as the
poem develops a gloomy, dejected tone. The poem begins by stating I have been one acquainted with
the night which implies that the speaker is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Roger Gilbert stated Such grammar dispels the kind of precise sequential focus that the earlier
poems display, instead creating a repetitive space in which constancy rather than change is
emphasized (49 74) the repetition of the phrase i have adds a routined feel to the poem and reveals that
his walks never impact his outlook and leave him with a constant state of mind. The speakers
determination to continuously proceed on his walks is demonstrated when he states I have walked out
in the rain and back again in the rain. / i have outwalked the furthest city light. The furthest city light
is a representation of the final signs of life the speaker passes before he can reach absolute darkness
physically as well as mentally. By entering blackness, the speaker demonstrates a desire for loneliness
and isolation from any form of life. Similarly, Roger Gilbert s stated: the speaker makes a point of
outwalk[ing] the furthest city light (49 74),leaving behind the human markers and habitations that
create a sense of community, and faring into a lonelier kind of landscape. The last words of the first
and third lines rhyme night and light to link them together and emphasize the contrast of the bright
city lights compared to his own darkness. The night is oftenly associated with its own horrors and
mystery, and speaker relates to the night because it corresponds with his own sorrowful

A Brief History of the American Kennel Club
Man s best friend, or as people simple call them, the dog has been a part of family life thousands of
years. Ever since the beginning man and dog have lived side by side. Whether as guard dogs, hunting
buddies, or simply a member of the family it s impossible to have never seen or heard of a dog.
Organizations have developed means of determining which dogs are the best of the best. Today the
most recognizable and known organization for dogs is the American Kennel club, or AKC.
The AKC was founded by a group of men on September 17, 1884 after twelve of them received a
summons in the mail by Messrs. J. M. Taylor and Elliot Smith. The men that Taylor and Smith
gathered each had held a significant place in different dog clubs. These men were highly skilled in
their individual styles of dog shows and it was on this expertise that the American Kennel Club was
born. Being composed of men from all different types of kennel clubs and shows, this was the first
kennel club to cover a whole variety of breeds instead of one specific class. At their second meeting in
Madison Square Garden a few months later Major James M. Taylor became the AKC s first president,
having written and delivered many of the founding laws the AKC still follow today. During its first
years the AKC developed a type of organization still used today, the National American Kennel Club
Stud Book which listed all the studs, unneutered male dogs, that the AKC deemed best in their breed.

Summary Of The Night Circus, By Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern depicts the tale of two lovers bound by a challenge that
forces them to compete against each other. It was a romantic tale, from which the reader can develop a
strong sense of emotion with the two lovers. In this novel, Morgenstern uses the character Bailey to
demonstrate the ideas of love, passion vs obsession and standing up for yourself. Love is a very
influential idea in the story, without it Bailey wouldn t have taken over the circus. However, Bailey s
obsession with the circus makes him abandon his family. Additionally, Bailey would not take over the
circus without him finally standing up for himself. Morgenstern engages the reader with an exciting
storyline and uses a large range of language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, from the earliest starting point to the end, characters are seen standing up for themselves. A
prominent example is when towards the end of the book, Bailey stands up for himself and his future.
With regards to Bailey s future, all his family is endeavouring to control his future. His grandma needs
him to head off to college, yet his father states he is taking control over the family farm and won t tune
in to anyone else. The easy thing to do would be to let the issue drop... Instead, and he is not entirely
certain why, he keeps the subject alive, bringing it up as often as possible. (Morgenstern 107) Despite
the fact that Bailey s dad won t tune in, Bailey continues pushing, winding up more forceful with what
he needs. In the end of the book Bailey goes to bat for himself and his future. When he is going out
with the goal to join the circus and is caught by his sister, he says, I don t care if you don t understand
that. Staying here won t make me happy. It will make you happy because you are insipid and boring,
and an insipid, boring life is enough for you. It s not enough for me. It will never be enough for me.
So, I m leaving. (Morgenstern 363) In this quote, Morgenstern uses repetition with the word it to
reinforce the importance of the message, build suspense and also stress the significance of the
message as this is a massive turning point in the story. In this passage Bailey

Income Tax And Tax Rates
Income Tax
As the name implies income tax is a percentage of a person s income but it is not quite as simple as
the percentage changes depending on how much you earn on average in a year (See Figure 1) ergo if
you make more money you pay a larger amount of income tax, however most people get a Personal
Allowance of £10,000 a year which you don t pay tax on therefore if you don t earn more than this
amount you aren t required to pay any form of income tax. There are certain forms of income which
you don t pay tax for example certain state benefits, interest on savings, rental income below £4,250
and premium bonds.

The UK s corporate tax is slightly higher with Europe s average corporation tax which stands at
19.68% this fiscal year but is much lower than the North American average of 33.25% this fiscal year
and a Global average at 23.57% this fiscal year.
VAT
VAT is a form of tax which is taken from the majority of goods and services, as well as certain goods
imported into the UK outside the EU. VAT can be taken from both B2B and B2C transactions carried
out by a business and can reclaim the VAT paid for goods and services required for the business. There
are three rates of VAT, Standard (20%), Reduced (5%), Zero (0%) and certain are exempt from VAT or
aren t included in the UK VAT system. To be able to register to be able to use VAT you must first pass
the VAT threshold which is currently £81,000, meaning your company must have had a turnover at or
above £81,000 to be eligible to apply. The rate of VAT changes over time depending on the economic
climate for example during 2008 VAT rates dropped to 15% and by 2010 they increased to 17.5% until
2011 when they raised to todays 20% rate. This change in VAT rates can help to determine when a

What Does The Prince Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
The story Masque of the Red Death uses many symbols throughout the story. The story begins telling
about the grim disease that killed many people. It spreads quickly and kills within 30 minutes. The
Prince Prospero, who symbolized the rich and prosperous, wanted to throw a great masked ball where
no one would get in or out so the disease couldn t spread or be brought into the palace. As the ball
went on there a clock that rang every hour. It stopped the people from dancing and symbolized time
passing. The people just resumed dancing after it rang like it was nothing, however. The party was
going fine until an intruder invaded the ball. This intruder symbolized the Red Death, and came like a
thief in the night . The prince tried to stop him with the aid of a knife, but then fell dead, like the rest
did after. Masque of the Red Death used lots of symbols in it such as the Prince, who represented the
rich, the clock, that represented the time passing by and the people s inevitable death, and the intruder,
who represented the Red Death and how merciless it was. One symbol in Masque of the Red Death
was the prince s name. Prince Prospero symbolized all of the rich people that lived in the story. These
people thought they were higher than others and also thought they were untouchable. The ... Show

The Common Theme Of Martyrdom Within The Death Of Socrates...
Deanna Rose Palevo Professor Heller ART 105 07 Final Term Paper 12/06/2016 The Common Theme
of Martyrdom within The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara When walking
through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work contains one or a
few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include,
but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and
beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate
pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of
Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an
entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with
oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story
of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged
the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy
and politics. In 399 BC, Socrates was accused of impiety (specifically not believing in the gods that
Athens believed in) and corruption of youth. The jury of Athens decided that Socrates was guilty of

Theory of Constraints and Queuing Theory
Evaluating the Theory of Constraint and Queuing Theory
Abstract The Theory of Constraints and the Queuing Theory is something that all forms of businesses
should be looking to exploit. The Theory of Constraints contends that all businesses have some form
of constraint that keeps them from working at optimum efficiency. These constraints are found,
reviewed, and corrected by a simple process of finding what to change, what to change to, and how to
cause the change. The Queuing Theory can be applied in a similar fashion in businesses. In
comparison, it attempts to point out inefficiencies similar to that of the Theory of Constraints;
however, it seeks to accomplish these goals through a mathematical equation rather through a ... Show

Business Application Fagan (2009) looked into a Smail Collision Center in Greensburg, Pa and how
they have been actively implementing the Theory of Constraints for more than a year. The findings
were staggering with regards to the positive impact that was realized throughout company. Fagan
(2009) stated that Smail was able to reduce its cycle times by 64 percent, making them twice as fast as
their previous operating model. Their flat rate productivity went from 120 percent to 190 percent.
Sales grew by 12.8 percent and net growth was 36.7 percent in 2007 and increased by an additional 26
percent in 2008 which resulted in a net increase of 50 percent. With these astounding results digging
further into the TOC process becomes a very attractive option for many businesses to explore. Taking
a step back, Bates (n.d.) examines how TOC helps companies. He states that TOC allows companies
to focus improvement efforts where they will have the greatest immediate impact on bottom line as
well as providing a reliable process that insists on follow through. AGI Goldratt Institute (n.d.) asks
the question as to how can any generic solution have such a broad applicability? They answer this
question with a powerful analogy: just as the strength of a chain is dictated by its weakest link, the
performance of any value chain is dictated by its constraint. Recognizing this, Bates (n.d.) lists the
five steps in the road map for a business to accomplish

  • 2. Does Nitric Acid Affect The Synthesis Of Nitroacetanilide In this experiment, nitric acid and sulfuric acid were mixed to form nitronium ions, hydronium ions, and hydrogen sulfate ions. The amide on the acetanilide is an electron donating group, an activator, which means that when an activated electrophile is added to the acetanilide, it will add in the ortho, para positions. In this case, the activated electrophile is the nitronium ions, which react with the acetanilide and form an arenium ion. Then, the hydrogen sulfate ions pull off the hydrogen that is attached to the same carbon as the nitronium ion, allowing the lone pair that is now on the carbon the hydrogen left from to form a double bond with the electron deficient (positively charged) carbon next to it. The products formed are the ortho and para substitutions of nitroacetanilide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crude solid was dissolved in hot ethanol and then, was allowed to cool. As the solution cooled the solubility of the compounds in the solution drops, which allowed the nitroacetanilide to recrystallize from the solution. The size of the crystals depends on the rate of cooling; a slower cooling rate leads to the formation of larger crystals. In order to collect the crude solid and the recrystallized solid, vacuum filtration was used. Vacuum filtration uses reduced pressure to force the solution and air through the filter paper, allowing for the solid to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Postmodernism Or The Cultural Logic Of Late Capitalism... Fredric Jameson is admired as a standout amongst the most imperative and persuasive artistic and social pundit and theoretician in the Marxist convention of the English speaking world. In his work Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism Jameson endeavors to portray the way of social creation in the second half of the twentieth century, the period of late capitalism, and to recognize it from different manifestations of social generation of going before capitalist periods. A generous part of Jameson s Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism is committed to differential investigation of masterpieces and building design from what Jameson terms high innovation and postmodern works. He describes the postmodern mode of generation as a social prevailing in the wake of ideas like depthlessness or the concealment of depth, the fading of influence and pastiche, terms which as per Jameson identify with the postmodern type of production and experience. The idea of postmodernism quickly raises the issue of periodization, involved by the prefix post doled out to the time of modernism. What was the starting point of modernism and when did it end? Is it safe to say that it is conceivable to define clear boundaries between modernism and postmodernism? Jameson accepts that it is conceivable to discuss social modes with in a characterized course of events. In any case, he limits his periodization of postmodernism to the unbinding idea of social ... • 4. Drown, By Junot Diaz I usually make a fortune on Saturdays, selling to those kids going down to Belmar or out to Spruce Run. (Drown). The narrator, Yunior, in the story Drown by Junot Diaz is a drug dealer and does not want anyone to recognize him so that he may uphold a positive image. Unlike Yunior in Drown the narrator in the poem What Work Is by Philip Levine depicts the struggles men and women face when trying to obtain honest work. We stand in the rain in a long line waiting at Ford Highland Park, for work (What Work Is). The two literary works both suggest one must live a life of chance when work is hard to come by. Class is an apparent feature of any society, especially in the United States. Americans tend to overlook at times that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He appears to resent his father for the way he treats his mother, yet still wants a relationship with him. He is self aware and witnesses the struggles that people like him go through every day in their lives of poverty and drug abuse. The neighborhood shapes the life of Yunior, so it plays an important role in the story. Most of the anxiety is caused by the fact that he cannot leave his neighborhood, because of possible fears of the outcome once he is in the outside world. The pool is another great setting as it is described in a way that is like the neighborhood where the Yunior lives, The water feels good... while everything above me is loud and bright, everything below is whispers... this quote coincides with the fact that the Yunior is trapped, but he d rather stay below than come up and see the outcome of him leaving for the outside world like Beto. The author titled the work Drown to refer to Yunior as drowning in his life without a career or future. At times, one can wonder what drives a person not to want more from life. Yunior is an unmotivated young man, who appears to not have much going for him. He does not have people who encourage him to work hard, or do something better with his life. The people he surrounds himself with are not of good influence on him. Me and Beto used to steal like mad from these places, two, three hundred dollars of shit in an outing. (Drown). • 5. School Lunch Essay Skipping Dessert When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every day in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. Allowing the NSLP to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their children would be getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and malnutrition in the United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices. In the article School Lunches , the author discusses whether or not the government s National School Lunch Program (NSLP) should be allowed to regulate what is served in school lunches. • 6. Televised Courtrooms In Canada Televised Courtrooms Against If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. However, since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. • 7. Jellyfish Population Control Of Fish Loggerheads also help to maintain food webs. An important example of this is jellyfish population control. As a result of overfishing, jellyfish are slowly replacing formerly abundant fish species because reduced fish populations allow for less competition for food. Jellyfish prey on fish eggs and larvae, and increases in jellyfish are detrimental to the recovery of fish populations. Loggerheads and other sea turtle species consume jellyfish and consequently reduce populations of jellyfish, allowing for a control of their population (Wilson et al. 2010). Loggerhead sea turtles also have long migrations and these migrations transport nutrients and energy from one area to another. The migration of males from foraging grounds to nesting beaches ... Although President Bashar Al Assad has committed atrocities against the people of Syria, he remains the only force in the region that can keep radical terrorists groups, such as the Islamic State, from advancing. Therefore it is critically important that he remain in power. 3. In order to successfully defeat the Islamic State it is imperative that the United State and Russia cooperate together in a concerted effort to eliminate the Islamic State. 4. There must be an establishment of a no fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from the war. What these goals mean is that we will ultimately have to select an option that allows us to achieve these tasks, but that will inevitably lead to disagreement between the United States and our allies. The United States must face the reality that certain allies will not agree with our decision. The national security of the United States must be our ultimate goal. THE DILEMMA WE FACE The problem that we have is that in agreeing to allow President Assad to remain in power, we will run into much backlash from allies. Saudi Arabia will not be in agreement as they want to see President Assad toppled, and want a group that is more aligned to their interests in power. Israel will not be satisfied if Assad remains because of historic conflict between the two states, as well as President Assad s long support for the terrorist group Hezbollah. • 11. Video Game Industry Has Undergone Significant Changes From... The video game industry has undergone significant changes from the early days of Atari. It now covers multiple sectors and generates more revenue than the movie and music industry. Last year total revenue in the U.S. eclipsed $23.5 billion, jumping 5% from a year earlier. A big part of that increase is due to a shift away from physical games towards digital software. In the past 5 years video game publishers have focused on expanding their direct to consumer channels through robust digital offerings. Meanwhile, the emergence of mobile gaming, eSports and virtual reality are poised to take the industry by storm in the next few years. With the industry growing at a rapid clip, it should be near the top of any investor s list. Video Game Industry For starters, the video game industry consists of three primary sectors; PC, console and mobile. PC gaming is currently the biggest moneymaker followed by console and mobile. However, mobile is poised to eclipse both PC and console sales in the next 5 years. Console gaming remains a blue chipper in the industry with limited upside or downside potential. Despite the booming popularity of PC games, computer sales continue to struggle. Names like HP (HPQ) and IBM (IBM) continue to point to a weak PC market as the source of its problems. Both stocks are down double digits in the past 12 months and should only be pursued as long term investments. Console gaming, on the other hand, has become so advanced that they are essentially ... Alfred Prufrock the reader can clearly understand that T.S Eliot is straightforward as one can get within a poem. In the beginning of the poem, one can infer that Prufrock is being used as a facade to convey Eliot s inner self who is an introvert that doesn t quite fit in with the modern day society. Prufrock sees his personal life as a burden that he cannot mend while he tries to conform into the middle class society that everyone views as pristine. In college Eliot met the love of his life and he soon married Vivien Haigh Wood. This would make Eliot a new person in the way he would write and view the world. He self trained himself to make his writing more modern in efforts to reach a bigger crowd (Bush). These efforts would eventually pay off with writings like Ulysses, The Wasteland, and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. These writings would give T.S Eliot the strength to quit his job in a local bank and live off the success of his writings. Eliot used his life struggles as his inspiration to create his successful writings just like how he used it to create Prufrock in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . T.S Eliot uses his poem as an outlet to express what he has experienced throughout his personal life through Prufrock. In his poem, he makes the character, Prufrock, becomes very judgmental on himself since Eliot has encountered many self degrading life lessons. Prufrock believes that his worthlessness terminates his chances of any woman falling in love him and which is the cause of his hesitance to approach women. • 15. The Complexity Of Endogenous Ligands For P2YR Endogenous ligands for P2YR The most abundant and best characterized endogenous ligand for P2YR is the nucleotide ATP. ATP binds to all P2YRs except P2Y6R and P2Y14R12. Its binding characteristics exemplify the complexity of P2YR signalling: at low concentrations it is the only native agonist for P2Y11R, but at higher concentrations it functions as a partial agonist for P2Y1R and P2Y13R, or as an antagonist for human P2Y4R or P2Y12R11, 12, 15. Other nucleotides, such as ADP, UTP, UDP or UDP glucose, exhibit more specificity for individual P2YRs. In my opinion, one rule that should be changed to make our school better is give authorization for kids to chew gum. In fact, scientist have established that chewing gum can help enhance the student learning capability in numerous ways. Therefore, the rationale being is that kids that chew gum should be allowed to in school reason being it could help them stay more focused and become enhanced students, it could also help enhance their memory, and I have heard people in school saying that when they are chewing gum it helps them stay relaxed. However, chewing gum should be allowed in school is on behalf of it has been scientifically proven that chewing gum can cause students to be more focused and manufacture students become better, help them enhance their memory, and also I have heard from people scoffed around school that when they chew gum it helps them stay relaxed. Kids should be able to chew gum during school reason being is that it has been scientifically proven that chewing gum can form students to stay more focused in making them better student. On the other hand, the principal s and teachers think gum should not be allowed because they think gum is an interruption considering that the students would most likely be blowing bubbles and making commotion with their bubble gum. However, if that did happen all the teachers would have to say is everyone needs to provoke blowing bubbles and then students should stop. When the teacher gives out, work it has been scientifically proven to help them stay more focused, so that means chewing gum could cause the students want to be less focus on their surroundings and stay more focused on getting their work done. Then, if they start getting their work done, that means that they are becoming superior students. Another, reason kids and students should be able to chew gum during school is it has also been scientifically proven to help improve the students memory. They wanted to reinvent their own culture, govern themselves, and begin what they hoped would one day become a prosperous nation. One thing they wanted to have the liberty of practicing was religion, and having the choice of which particular religions they wished to follow. Puritanism and Deism were two different religions that were practiced in 17th century New England, and the differences between them sometimes were grounds for confrontations and conflict. According to Deists, their God was not a biased God, and every human was created equal, with no one having a better chance to make it to heaven than others. The Puritan and Deist views on afterlife are also an area where these two religions are not in sync with one another. Puritans believed in the concept of predestination, meaning that it was determined whether one was going to spend afterlife in heaven or hell at the time of their creation. In Day of Doom, Michael Wigglesworth, a minister in Massachusetts during the 17th century, explains how there will come a day when Christ returns to earth to judge who will be destined for heaven or doomed to hell. He writes that Christ explains to those who are being sent to hell deserve their eternal punishment, despite the fact that it was a foregone conclusion due to the fact that it had been predetermined. Faulty Truths In William Faulkner s Interview William Faulkner s denial of differentiating between the factual truth and undeterminable knowledge deviates readers attention from the direct significance of characters state of mind, which also introduces an additional concept of their apparent insanity. A reader of Faulkner s work possesses faulty truths, which are nothing but mere constructive assumptions that have been built upon through a series of events taking place in the story. It is often difficult to comprehend what message Faulkner is trying to convey, hence the blurry border between truth and assumption becomes evident. Regardless, he still refuses to further explain himself. For instance, during an interview, Jean Stein asked Faulkner, Some people say they can t understand your writing, even after they read it two or three times. What approach would you suggest for them? to which he responds, Read it four times (Faulkner Interview ). Faulkner is suggesting much more. Not only is the contrast of truth and assumption a reoccurring theme, but it is also represented by many of Faulkner s fictional characters, settings, and plot events. One of the most apparent and important themes in both One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is control. It is the foundation upon which we as humans derive knowledge and understanding from to eventually communicate across platforms and cultures. As it continues to permeate society, the formation, understanding and transmission of information becomes heavily specified and relative to the type of information collected, who it is useful to and how it will be used to generate widespread understanding. This is evidenced in how people seek and use information in their modern daily lives. A widely accepted model of this process comprises itself of the following components: data, information, knowledge, understanding and wisdom to an extent and the synthesis of these components is foundational to understanding how information is relative and consumed in its specificity today (Ackoff, 1989). Using differing arguments to examine differing perspectives, I will seek to establish the place of information within this hierarchy and how it applies to how we establish the use of information as it persists as a standalone concept in today s society. When people determine the usefulness of data to transform it into information and therefore understanding, it is essential to establish a mode by which this occurs. One attempt to do this is evidenced in Russell Ackoff s (1989) article, From Data to Wisdom . While both of their philosophies have developed to become equally important as a basis of the American country, its principles of life, and the idea of an American person, they reflect on rather different aspects and promote quite different outlooks on the personality. Assessment 3 Short Essay 1000 words What were the key social and cultural factors that enabled the Gospel to spread so quickly through the Roman Empire? Using primary and secondary sources, discuss with particular reference to Paul s writings and the Book of Acts. Paul more than anyone was responsible for the spread of the Jesus movement into the Gentile world. By the end of the first century Christianity had become an important religious force. Paul while respectful of its Jewish origins moved the Christian faith into a position where it was no longer bound by Jewish law and was able to embrace people of any cultural background. After his own conversion, Paul passionately espoused his message from the Palestinian world through Asia Minor and southern Europe to Rome, the heart of the empire. Some of his letters by Paul to fledgling churches throughout the Roman Empire are contained in the New Testament and outline Paul s theology. He insisted that Gentiles had as much access to the faith as Jews and that freedom from the Law set everyone free. It was this teaching which was essential for the development and success of the early church which would otherwise have remained another Jewish sect. The culture of Paul s time was Greco Roman. The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. In the Kitchen Analysis Essay Throughout essay In the Kitchen, Henry Louis Gates Junior recalls a time when he and his friends and family constantly tried to straighten their African American kinky hair. They did this to try to fit in with white people. It was very difficult for blacks to fit in with white people but he remembers how this difficult time brought the black community together. Gates also writes about a time when he was at his uncle s house to watch television. While they were all watching, they saw Nat King Cole, a famous singer with patent leather hair (328). His hair was processed, but not to the point where it looked completely like white peoples hair. It still looked somewhat natural. Back then, it was rare for an African American to be seen on television as Cole was. This shows the slow transition of blacks becoming accepted into white society. While Gates writes about his family was watching Cole on television it shows the togetherness of that time of trying to fit in with the whites. Doing everyone s hair in the kitchen also shows how the black community was brought together at this time. The writer misses this later in life as one can tell by how he writes about checking his own daughter s hair for the kitchen. The writer also refers to an incident where he is sitting in an Arab restaurant listening to the radio. He writes about how he almost cried as the song Fly Me to the Moon by Nat King Cole came on. This nostalgic memory hints that he liked how the blacks all tried to fit in with the whites together. The man illustrated by this poem did what society expected him to do, which resulted in a model life. This poem, however, can be seen in more than one way. Instead of trying something new, exploring the world, or making a change, the man did what everyone else regarded as acceptable. W. H. Deep Water Running or Aqua Running is the replication of a running style where the subject is submerged up to the neck in water and is unable to touch the ground (Masumoto et al 2017). It is used by elite athletes in a variety of situations: as a rehabilitation technique, allowing the athlete to maintain their cardiovascular fitness whilst injured, as a form of active recovery, increasing heart rate helping to increase blood flow to muscles, and also in addition to a regular training programme, allowing more cardiovascular training without excess strain on joints and muscles from the impact forces of running. A flotation belt is normally used to carry out deep water training in order to copy the style used by the runner on land (Kilgore). The use of deep water running is advantageous to an athlete, less pressure is placed upon their joints and spine allowing them to increase training volume without increasing the risk of injury. Meanwhile the recovery process from the athletes major training sessions can also be sped up by deep water running allowing the athlete to train under less fatigue in future sessions. Ever since the beginning man and dog have lived side by side. Whether as guard dogs, hunting buddies, or simply a member of the family it s impossible to have never seen or heard of a dog. Organizations have developed means of determining which dogs are the best of the best. Today the most recognizable and known organization for dogs is the American Kennel club, or AKC. The AKC was founded by a group of men on September 17, 1884 after twelve of them received a summons in the mail by Messrs. J. M. Taylor and Elliot Smith. The men that Taylor and Smith gathered each had held a significant place in different dog clubs. These men were highly skilled in their individual styles of dog shows and it was on this expertise that the American Kennel Club was born. Being composed of men from all different types of kennel clubs and shows, this was the first kennel club to cover a whole variety of breeds instead of one specific class. At their second meeting in Madison Square Garden a few months later Major James M. Taylor became the AKC s first president, having written and delivered many of the founding laws the AKC still follow today. Each work contains one or a few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include, but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy and politics.
