I Am A Liberal Conservative Is More Open Minded Than Some...
I am a Liberal. A Liberal is more open minded than some other political ideologies. They believe we
should all be equal and have the same opportunities in life. The government should help us so we can
all be financially stable. Things like health care and food stamps are important because the
government should help all of us, if we cannot do that for ourselves. Although liberals want help from
the government they don t believe they should control what we do in our personal lives. They are very
big advocators for women s rights for this reason. Focusing on actual government, a big belief is that
federal government should have more say over citizens instead of letting state government have
control over what we do. Along with having laws they believe more laws will help us. It is a way to
keep people in line and provide equal opportunity for everyone. I identify as a liberal but I don t hold
all the same beliefs as the typical liberals. I come from a big Hispanic Catholic family; I am one of
five children. Growing up I would stay with my grandmother most weekends because my house was
always so hectic. I obviously was taken to church every Sunday with her, where we would meet with
the rest of my family. I would attend my Communion classes before we went to mass. I remember my
teachers always telling us how loving and accepting God is. We would sing and color all through
class, everything just seemed perfect. When the priest would preach during mass he would say how

Bob Garrott Analysis
Bob Garrott was our speaker this week. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin for four
years and is now the director of the Fish and Wildlife program here at Montana State. He told us that
he never wanted to be a professor, up here talking to classrooms like our, but now finds it very
satisfying to help train people in an academic environment to be successful in wildlife management.
Garrott started out as an undergraduate, a technician working in arctic Alaska. After his first year, he
was asked back as a team leader on an arctic fox project, and worked that for about five years, which
led him to get a masters degree on arctic foxes. After that, he worked at Los Alamos National
Laboratory on a mule deer study, his wife and him worked as a team on that for about six years before
moving back to Montana, where he got another degree. He has enjoyed working all over, including
studying wild horses throughout the west, working on a manatees project in Florida, studying sea
otters on the California coast, the impact of the Valdes oil spill in Puget Sound, and bycatch issues in
the pacific northwest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yellowstone is one of the largest, intact, temperate ecosystems in the world, and has all of the original

wildlife issues in Yellowstone national park, including the commercial slaughter of bison and their re
introduction to the park, the introduction of non native mountain goats and their possible impact,
complications between the agriculture industry and native bighorn sheep, and the fight to decide the
registration of wolverines as an endangered

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Mary Shelly
Prior to discussing the merit of either edition of Shelley s work relative to the other, I believe it is
essential to qualify the argument with an acknowledgement that both are multi dimensional works that
interweave criticisms of society, politics.... into a highly compelling story. That is, both are excellent
works that contain subjective elements that can be interpreted in numerous ways. The work of literary
critics such as Mary Poovey, Anne Mellor, Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar ostensibly reanimated
discussion over the significance of Frankenstein, and consequently Mary Shelley, that may have well
never occurred otherwise. Furthermore, their work illuminates many previously ignored facets of
Frankenstein, that hold significance not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poovey attributes this concept to imagination, and innate desire. Had Victor not been emboldened to
play creator, the Creature would not exist. Yet in this argument, Poovey is conceding that society does
not have a place for the Byronic hero, the Creature in this instance, that does not meet aesthetic
standards. Had the Creature been accepted by Victor, the De Laceys or society in general, he would
never have followed the path of destruction. This recognition is embittered by the Creature s capacity
for emotional eloquence exhibited in his monologues in the Alps: Everywhere I see bliss, from which I
alone am irrevocably excluded. I am benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend (Shelley P. 77 8).
The Creature s helplessness, and society s role in his rejection, is further emphasized in his subsequent
narration. The reader learns of the Creature s desperate desire for companionship first from Victor, and
subsequently from the De Laceys. Neither Victor, nor the De Laceys, can overcome the Creature s
inhuman form. While they are not blameless in the rejection of the Creature, they are indicative of
society s inability to accept the otherness embodied by the Creature. In the revised edition, this
emphasis is exacerbated by the reader s willingness to forgive

Christianity In The Early Middle Ages Essay
Christianity in Europe during the Medieval Period encountered many hindrances such as corruption,
sex, the Avignon Captivity, and the Great Schism. However, even though the church encountered
many controversies which eventually undermined the foundation of the church, monastic revival
reformed the church and ultimately restored the original beliefs.
Corruption was present in many forms within the church during the medieval period. Many clergy
members were landowners in late medieval Christianity and if they were not, the church would count
on the nobles to share their profits from their peasants work. (Christian History, 2015) It was also
familiar for members of clergy to buy their positions in order to obtain power and wealth. Priests were
also known for visiting taverns, gambling, and having orgies with quarrels and blasphemy. (Arnold,
1999)
From the Early Middle Ages, through the reign of Charlemagne, the church accentuated the
importance of clerical celibacy, however by Carolingian times, it became apparent that clerical
celibacy would be impossible to enforce. The church disclosed that not all ... Show more content on

poverty in retaliation to the growing wealth of the High Middle Ages. The Franciscans lived among
the people and preached repentance while aiding the poor. (Spielvogel, 285) Their selfless acts of
simplicity and poverty were effective in spreading the spiritual revival across Europe. The

lived lives of poverty but were able to preach effectively would be able to attack heresy, as a result,

To Kill A Mockingbird Relevance
Even though a novel may have been written years ago, it could still be considered relevant to present
day. In the case of To Kill a Mockingbird, some teachers still believe it is relevant and teach it to their
students. A former teacher at Ames High School in Iowa has stated that he continued to teach To Kill a
Mockingbird for his 38 years of teaching because he felt that the book was still relevant through the
way it portrayed the love, respect, and courage. He also believed it encouraged students to engage
students deep into the story as well as use their imagination (Rhinehart). Another teacher at the same
high school also chooses to teach the novel because she believes students can relate the themes of the
book such as stereotypes back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Foley, an English teacher in Washington, challenged the use of The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn, Of Mice and Men, and To Kill a Mockingbird in high school English classes due to the racial
slurs and the way African Americans are portrayed in the novels. Foley suggested other novels that
still fit the curriculum that were considered to be less controversial. He believed his students, who
were mostly from minorities, felt uncomfortable and were uninterested in the novels since the racial
slurs used were directly aimed at the race they identified with. He stated the his past students would
not be able to focus on the overall theme of the book, but focused on the racial language used by the
author. He felt the new novels he suggested would be easier for his students to relate to in their
subjects and the events that take place within them are more recent (Albright). Foley s solution to his
problem is similar to the one mentioned in this essay. The main difference is his motivation behind
why the novels need to be changed; instead of just focusing on the relevance of the novel, he focuses
on the language and the negative emotions it

E1 Synthesis Lab Report
An E1 reaction involves a two step mechanism. In this particular reaction, before the first step can
take place, the alcohol group on 2 methyl 2 butanol is protonated by sulfuric acid so that water is
formed as a suitable leaving group. The first step can then take place: the loss of water as leaving
group to form a carbocation intermediate. Then, a beta proton is eliminated resulting in the formation
of a double bond, forming an alkene. In this reaction, a major product (2 methyl 2 butene) and a minor
product (2 methyl 1 butene) are formed. Two products were formed because two different beta protons
were available for elimination, resulting in the double bond being put in two different positions.
However, one of the products is favored and considered major because of Zaitsev s rule that states the
more substituted alkene is favored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The compound being tested is placed as a liquid into the gas chromatogram and it is vaporized. The
mobile phase is a gas, and the vaporized sample is pushed through a coiled column by a carrier gas,
which is chosen so that it is unreactive with the sample. The coiled column is also coated by a liquid
which serves as the stationary phase. The different components will reach the detector of the
chromatograph at different points, depending on their boiling points. Substances with lower boiling
points will vaporize faster, and will therefore reach the detector faster than their higher boiling point
counterparts. The detector sends out an output in the form of a graph which can be analyzed to tell
what compounds are in the sample as well as how much of

Beowulf Embodies Heroic Ideals Essay
In Beowulf the classic epic, Beowulf, the hero of the epic, and other major characters reflect heroic
ideals and beliefs of courage, generosity, unquestioning loyalty and devotion. Courage is most evident
throughout Beowulf Beowulf does not back down from any challenge that stands in his way whether it
be Grendel, Grendel s mother, or the dragon. His bravery is most evident in his preparation for his
fight with Grendel, Beowulf, took off his shirt of armour, the helmet from his head, handed his
embellished sword, best of irons to an attendant,... He chose to bravely fight his foe, man to beast

Beowulf s men show unquestioning loyalty as they submit their lives to their lord. The night of
Beowulf s fight with Grendel, the men are told by Beowulf to sleep (in the mead hall) and they
bravely do, showing immense trust and devotion as they are aware of that they could very well
increase their chance of dying when Grendel attacks if they follow as Beowulf instructs (to sleep as
opposed to standing guard through the night). Beowulf remains loyal to King Hrothgar and as he
promised to purge the mead hall of its murderous foes, he fulfills his pledge by killing not only
Grendel, but also Grendel s mother. Beowulf in turn is also loyal to his men as he states to King
Hrothgar, ...if I at your need I should go from life, you would always be in a father s place for me
when I am gone: be guardian of my young retainers, my companions, if battle should take me. Nor
does Beowulf forget his king as he also requests that Hrothgar send the rewarded treasures and gifts to
Hygelac if Grendel s mother defeats him. Wiglaf, portrayed as the only worthy one of Beowulf s
company that joined him at his battle with the dragon, also showed loyalty in his aiding his Beowulf in
fighting the dragon (as others cowardly shy away from the fight) and followed Beowulf s instructions
for carrying out his funeral and other processions after Beowulf s death, and in his speech to the

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The P C Industry
SWOT Analysis is a simple but useful framework for analyzing your organization s strengths and

Though I assume that all the insurance industry has gone paperless, one weakness that may still be

Explain Paley s Argument for the Existence of God
4a. Explain Paley s argument for the existence of God (25)
William Paley s argument for the existence of God is an important aspect of the Design argument,
which argues that the universe is being directed towards an end purpose due to the a posteriori (subject
to experience) evidence of an intelligent designer, who is God. This is because it is perhaps arguably
the most famous version, and the theory which modern day theories for the Design argument are built
upon. The first version of the Design argument came from Plato, a Greek philosopher, who developed
it to address the universe s apparent order. Plato proposed in his book Timaeus that a demiurge , a
divine being of supreme wisdom and intelligence, was the creator of the ... Show more content on

B. The universe has no purpose. Discuss. (10)
It has often been a long running debate between scholars over whether or not the universe has no
purpose. I personally believe it does not, for a variety of reasons. One reason is in regards to Paley s
argument, which is that it depends on having one view of the world, whereas it realistically is more
subjective. If you perceive the world as having order and happiness within this order then there is no
issue. However, if you have been greatly effected by the evil and suffering in the world of are a
pessimist, you would be more inclined to believe the world to be flawed, or as the 18th century
philosopher David Hume put forward, the idea that it was the first flawed work of some infant deity.
Also, as the 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant put forward, it is possible that there is no order
in the world at all, and that we humans have simply imposed order on our surroundings due to our
minds categorizing it as such. Another reason I do not believe that the universe has a purpose is due to
the brutality of nature, rather than peaceful harmony. As put forward by Herbert Spencer, a 19th

Propose a New Positioning Strategy for Acl Product
New market positioning for a new product
Introduction
ACL Clean has been a successful product in the Hampshire and the company expanded into the Essex
region Market. However sales were low and public awareness was lacking. The company was using
the majority of its funds on the products line extension and little on advertisement and product
placement. This is the key factor in the poor sales in Essex because the public isn t aware of ACL
Clean and its benefits. In order to make ACL Clean a more successful and well known product, funds
used for the product line extension need to be diverted to advertising in order implement a new
positioning strategy in the Essex market. The best way to implement a new positioning strategy would

Mainly people out of school, beginning a career or becoming more established, and are able to make a
major purchase like a cleaning equipment and want one that will last them for as long as possible.
Promoting ACL clean as the product that will achieve this will increase product awareness, create
brand loyalty, and ultimately increase sales. However, as many first time buyers have been using other
cleaning equipment or have used other products related to car care, introducing ACL clean as a
premium product will be a daunting task because there is already an established brand loyalty to other
products, even though they are not as good as ACL clean. With establishment of the original ACL
clean product in the market the opportunities of the line extensions are limitless.
A great way to promote ACL clean in the Essex market would be through public relations. A great
strategy would be to sponsor an event such as a cleaning equipment show in Essex region.
Alternative 2
Another effective means of marketing ACL clean to the Essex Region as a great product with quality
safety benefits would be through alliance with healthcare companies and local authorities.
Alternative 3
Advertising is the most obvious and effective choice to place ACL clean in the consumers mind, just
as it has in the Hampshire. Through TV commercials, magazine ads, and banners on web pages, the
name and product information relation to ACL clean would be widely visible. Since

Imperialism And Education
Throughout this semester, all of the novels and poetry that we have read have a great deal to do with
an individual s personal education. Within the last two works, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and
The Jungle Book, present the importance of education in the form of not only enlightenment, but also
as a tool to ensure clarity of mind and ambitions. In a current sense, we are dealing with the same sort
of issues in education. This can in a conceptual way be applied to the difficult idea of combining and
finding a balance between the traditional form of teaching with the technology advanced form of
education that we are beginning to find normal, in contrast with the concept of British imperialism

This is simply an irrational apprehension toward people of different races or countries than your own.
Although the British see India simply as a land to colonize, they are resistant to even contemplating
the idea of accepting some of the Indian traditions. The current pieties of the Indian culture were not
only decimated, but were being suppressed. We also see this form of resistance in education as well.
The state now requires standards of technology to be included in every lesson plan that it taught. For
traditional teachers who have no experience with much of the technology, this can be overwhelming
and they resist it on all fronts because they do not understand it. We see this concept of the expectation
for us to drop the traditional ideals or techniques that we know well for something that is supposedly
better within the jungle in the story The Miracle of Purun Bhagat: He had been, as the Old Law

Compare Health Expenditures
After the end of World War II, there was an ideological battle between the capitalistic ideals and the
communist ideals. Many decades later we can still see the remnant of the ideological differences
between the countries of each side of the iron curtain. One of the ways we can interpret the differences
between each country in Europe s economic and ideological advancement is by comparing the Health
expenditures. Health expenditures are defined by CIA World Fact Book as the statistic that provides
the total expenditure on health a percentage of GDP. Those expenditures are activities performed
either by institutions or individuals through application of medical knowledge and technology, the
primary purpose of which is to promote, restore, or maintain health. This percentage can differentiate
countries that spend a lot on health compared to other; those countries that spend a lot on health are
typically more economically progressed. The best example of which is the United States being at the
top of the list, spending 17.90% of their GDP on health expenditures. Meanwhile the bottom of the list
has Burma spending a meager 1.80% of their GDP on health on expenditures. ... Show more content

The Importance Of Abortion In The United States
Should abortion be legal in the United States? This question has been a huge argument for quite some
time now. Everyone has their own opinion, I am without a doubt prolife. Abortion should be illegal for
thousands of reason. Some reasons that make me so passionate that abortion should be illegal is the
fact that abortion is murder, it s making human life disposable, there are other options instead of
abortion like adoption, abortion can cause serious medical problems in a women, and there are many
women looking to adopt children.
If murder is illegal why isn t abortion, abortion is just another form of murder. It s making human life
disposable by giving women the chance to get rid of a problem they do not want to deal with. No one
would kill a one year old child because they didn t feel like dealing with them anymore so why should
abortion be allowed? Every person should be giving the chance of life, abortion is taking away the
chance of someone being able to live a full life. The child s life starts the moment of conception, if

The Importance Of Favorites In The Family
Favorites in the Family: How Birth Order affects parental favoritism in the role of the family and what
it means for the rest of the children When children ask their parents which sibling they like the most,
the majority of parents will answer something to the extent of, I love all of my children equally, or I
don t have a favorite. Although it would be nice if these statements were true, most parents have a
favorite in one way or another. Parents and socially acceptable parenting styles have evolved over
time, but parental favoritism for children has not. Each child in a family, favorite child or not, has their
own personality. Although these traits are sometimes heightened when they are the favorite child,
these personalities hold true for youngest, middle, and oldest children. The first born children tend to
be the strong leaders that strive for achievement in order to impress their parents. If the oldest is not
perceived as the favorite, it may cause them to try even harder to impress their parents and prove to
them why they should be the favorite. The youngest children tend to be the most rebellious, but also
the ones who grow up to be the best with people. Youngest children also aim to have the most
attention from parents growing up. The middle child tends to be the family peacekeeper. They are the
most agreeable and help settle arguments when needed.
In one third to two thirds of families, parents favor one or more of their children in at least one aspect

Daystar Rita Dove Summary
In today s American culture, the woman of the house is expected to not only stay at home and raise her
children but also to please and tend to her husband as well. Rita Dove poem, Daystar, illustrates just
that. A woman who feels trapped because of her role as a mother and wife. Daystar comes from a book
of poems written by Dove entitled Thomas and Beulah, which tells both the real and unreal stories of
dove s maternal grandparents (Bartleby). Within the poem, Daystar, imagery, setting, and language
work together to bring forth to the readers the individual need for reflection the speaker is longing for.

But implying the word Palace refers to beauty, this will help the readers to better visualize a gleaming,
soaring structure. So is it safe to say this can be a metaphor for the mother s hope for a more relaxing
and peaceful life? Another major aspect that readers can see fuel the speakers need for relaxation is the
setting of the poem. The entirety of Dove s poem takes places in a family. While the speaker is
surrounded by work that needs a consistent amount of doing, she is undoubtedly in need of her own.
Because the author never mentions what the speaker is like outside of the home, it s hard for one to
imagine what she is like outside of the home. Therefore we can agree she is pretty much a static
character. This fact lends to the idea that motherhood can be a tough job for many, as it gives the
impression that she is stuck in a jail cell. ...so she lugged a chair (Dove 4) can lead the reader to think

Analysis Of The Article If Animals Could Speak
The first TV commercial aired on July 1, 1941 and it was only 10 seconds long. This ad featured a
very rough map of the United States with the company s logo over the heart of the map and only five
words said in it. (Luckin) Since the first ad, commercials have developed into very in depth systematic
ways for companies to show off their product to the consumer. Almost every large company has used
this method to brand themselves. The ASPCA is no different when it comes to this matter. They have
put out a numerous number of commercials to try to get people to donate to their cause. In the ad
entitled If Animals Could Speak the ASPCA uses gut wrenching images of animals, slow music, text,
and a desperate voice to successfully persuade the viewer into donating to their company or saving an
animal. If Animals Could Speak starts out with an image of a dog sitting in a cage. The camera slowly
begins to zoom in on the dog s face. While this is happening words slowly begin to appear on the
screen that say If I could speak I would tell you it hurts when you hit me. Next another image of a dog
is shown and words also slowly begin to show up on screen. This time the words say I would ask what
I did to deserve this. After that a cat that has bandages on both of its front legs is pictured. The words I
would say please give me a chance appear on the screen with the cat. Each one of these images is on
the screen for about 13 seconds. After this image fades away a new one

Assessing the Impacts of Hurricane Katrina and the Macondo...
Oil spills are usually associated with environmental disasters; because of this the Oil Pollution Act of
1990 and related policies have inadequate amount of tools that will help humans deal with these
accidents. When the Macondo blow out happened, we had to assess the impact that it also had on
human health, mental and physical because it had affected a large area. The Macondo spill
unfortunately happened less than five years after Hurricane Katrina damaged Louisiana and
Mississippi coast. Clearly, a lesson that was learnt from the oil spill was that the nation wasn t
prepared for widespread, poor effects on human health and mental well being. Most of the
communities along the Gulf had resided there for the majority of their lives or at least 20 years; this oil
spill had worried the residents about payments, money issues, and the stability of their communities,
which in turn affected their health.
From what happened during Hurricane Katrina and now the oil spill, speakers Sharon Gauthe and
Gracie Scire are really trying to stress the importance of the need for additional community mental
health services. The citizens are trying to cope with physical ailments and stress and even though the
health agencies issued personal protective equipment guidelines for response workers and created a
registry of these newly trained personnel, they missed the crucial window for screening their baseline
physical health before the workers were directly exposed to oil products; Industry and

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were significant to the Soviet Union s development of their atomic
weaponry, their crime cost America a lot of panic, cost the government a lot of money, and cost them
their lives. Was it really worth it? They were the most famous orphans of the cold war. (Roberts). This

The Blackfoot Indians Essay
The Blackfoot Indians
The wind blows across the lone prairie, causing the golden heads of grass to sway in a synchronized
motion. On the horizon stands a herd of buffalo with bowed heads silhouetted by the slowly sinking
sun. In the east stands an
Indian war party mounted on horseback, each individual in different multicolored attire, all with either
bows or spears in hand. As they move in for the attack, the mystical scene slowly fades from vision....
This dreamlike scene was once everyday life to the American Indian before they were robbed of all
that made their life real. The Indians originally came over to North America via the Bering Strait at a

Short Essay On The Power Of Chi
There s no way to sneak out the kongsi front door carrying a sword, even with a skeleton crew of
security guards on duty. I could try disguising it, but what could I use that wouldn t look like
something wrapped around a sword? I don t have time for such nonsense. The easiest option is going
out the emergency exit on the ground floor. There s no guard, but there is an alarm, which would be a
problem if I didn t know the code. I step out to a narrow, damp walkway that seldom sees the light of
day. I look up and see a security camera pointed right at me. Damn. My emotions are robbing me of

It s Mike. He hauls me into a nearby classroom and shuts the door. Roy is waiting there. Both are

the door, blocking any chance of exit. I tug away from Mike and clutch the sword to my chest even
though it s the instrument of my mother s death. Does her blood still stain the blade? My pulse is
pounding in my ears and I m hating them both. Why aren t you at the wedding? Wedding s over, says
Mike. The happy couple are taking photos inside the church. And by happy couple, I mean George and
Mother. That means I still have a chance. I glance over my shoulder, looking for another door. There

without hurting them and me? To make time, I ask, How did you know to find me? A guard paged me
and told me he saw you leave the kongsi by the emergency exit and that you were carrying a sword.
Who told you? He knows about it. I suck in yet another sense of betrayal as I ask. Who do you think?

Examples Of The Gap In The Marketing Process Of Huawei
Question 1
When an exchange happens certain gaps are created between production and consumption. The five
gaps created between production and consumption in the marketing process of Huawei are; Space
Gap, Time Gap, Information Gap, Ownership Gap and Value Gap.
Huawei is produced in China and is distributed and sold in Europe, India, Africa and the US and UK.
Their products being produced in one country and distributed to other creates a geographical space
gap between the manufacturer and the consumer.
Another gap in the marketing process of Huawei is the time gap. This time gap is the time taken to
distribute the product, the time taken to establish themselves in the market as well as the time taken to
market their products. There is a time gap taken to distribute the products because they are

The Heroic Cycle in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s...
What does it mean to be a hero in an exciting fantasy adventure? The bigger question is who would
not want to be the hero of their own story? In the fantasy genre, these heroes are given the typical
heroic tropes that go beyond the gender norm of saving a damsel in distress and fairy tale archetypes.
For students, this could be known as The Heroic Cycles that are often found in the fantasy genre
(Thomas 60). The hero is usually an orphan, disposing of inconvenient parental monitoring. He or she
is sent on a great quest of great importance... He or she meets up with a wise person, reflecting the
desire of students for guidance. The hero confronts and conquers the evil foe (60). In J. K. Rowling s

The novel depicts the alienation, the teasing and abuse he receives from the Dursley s and from his
muggle school in length but the film cuts it out and only represents Harry s current life with his
muggle family. Though film often acts like the viewer is watching an historical reenactment of a
literary work, but Nel argues that [t]he movie was not enough like the book and, at the same time,
very much like the book (172). True, the film does not explain the themes that were already discussed
and introduces the film at the zoo but the film interestingly introduces the magic world to Harry
[played by Daniel Radcliff] through the use of absurdities and fun. It presents the magic world in a
more whimsical manner that modern muggles would not realistically dream of. For instance, the scene
of the owl infestation at the Dursley s home when the Hogwarts letters were not being delivered is not
mentioned in the novel and is an added creative twist to the film. It also presents one of Hogwarts
symbols of the owl delivery system and at the same time, it may also foreshadow the animal
companion to the hero. Though the novel presents this scene with whimsical descriptions, the film
portrays magic in a manner that is absurd and entertaining to the audience and Harry as well. But his
call to the hero s cycle begins when he first finds out that he is a Wizard. When Harry

The Social Aspects Of Health And Diseases
#2. Every person is shaped by his/her life experiences and life history. As a result, one s social, and in
this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been
exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should
abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a
given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are
constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects
of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a
blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all
comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one
may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the
body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have
had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health
outcomes. Time is not the only cue to context. When looking at different parts of the world, even
within the same country or state, people s lives differ in many sorts of ways. Perhaps a child of a low
income family needing to work in unstable work environment, while the

The Flood Of Media Attention On Brain Injuries

scientists studying Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) a degenerative brain disease caused by

suicides among NFL players has inextricably linked concussions and football in the public psyche.
The attention has been justified: Last year, researchers working with the Concussion Legacy
Foundation conducted a post mortem study of the brains of men who had played football on the
college, semi pro and professional levels. Out of those 165 brains, 131 showed signs of CTE,
indicating that not only is the debilitating disease a risk, it s probably more prevalent among these
athletes than previously thought. In fixating exclusively on football, however, the concussion
controversy has lacked a certain breadth. That s because beyond the line of scrimmage, it s women not

Ruby Bridge Through My Eyes Essay Thesis
Imagine you love to go to this deli and you have been going to that deli your whole life. One day you
walk in and you see everyone staring at you. They say because of your skin color that you re not able
to come back. This actually happened in the 1960 s because Whites thought anyone who was African
American didn t deserve the same goods that Whites did. The African Americans started boycotting
and in 1964 African Americans got the same rights as everyone else.
Segregation affected the people living in the United states in many ways. One way is that African
American kids did not get the same education that Whites did. In Ruby Bridges Through my Eyes,
Ruby takes a test to see if she will get into an all white school. She goes to an all black school and
they don t have the same tools that they do in the all White school. In Segregation, the kids thought
that when they got the same rights they would be able to do the same things like swim. Their parents

Literature Review On Lung Cancer
1.0 Literature review
1.0.1 Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is a dangerous health problem which affects many people (Thomas, 2013). It becomes
the top killer among other types of cancers in the world (Molina, Yang, Cassivi, Schild Adjei, 2008).
According to the statistics made by National Institute of Health, more than 161, 000 cases were
reported in U.S. involving death caused by lung cancer in 2008 (Samet, Tang, Boffetta, Hannan,
Marston, Thun et, al., 2009). Despite the decreasing trends of lung cancer incidence rates for men in
the 1980s and for women in the late 1990s, still the lung and bronchus cancer remain the significant
cause of cancer mortality in the United States, with an estimation of 87,750 and 72,590 deaths to
occur in men and women, respectively, in 2012 (Field Withers, 2012) American Lung Association

This may occur to the old cells, to be replaced by new ones. This is denoted as a natural process. Cell
death may also occur due to localized injury and disease (Martes, 2014). There are two ways a cell
death can occur which are necrosis and apoptosis.
Necrosis occurs due to the harm caused by an external force, such as bodily injury, poison and
infection. When the body cells die due to necrosis, it causes serious inflammation and further injury in
the body (Martes, 2014). The other way of cell death is apoptosis. It is also called as programmed cell
death. It follows a predictable and control routine (Kogel Prehn, 2013).
Abnormal apoptosis, either too much or too little of it can cause many serious diseases in human such
as neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune disorders, ischemic damage and many types of cancer
(Elmore, 2007). Therefore, the field of apoptosis is gaining attention in the research to analyze the

Social Penetration Theory Is Defined As The Process Of...
According to Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor, Social Penetration Theory is defined as the process of
bonding that moves a relationship from superficial to more intimate. The theory can be perceived as a
game plan for people, especially in a relationship. This can give you guidance on how to interact with
individuals in order to establish a stable, and developing relationship through interpersonal
communication. For example, when you encounter someone whom you ve never met before, you may
ask some questions to learn a little bit about this person. We tend to exchange information back and
forth by asking people questions. Essentially, this is what social penetration theory does. It looks at
how we exchange and share information with people that we have never met before and how we self
disclose. Self disclosure can be separated into the theories three main concepts: depth, breadth, and
reciprocity. These important concepts of Social Penetration Theory were clearly shown when I
witnessed an unusual conversation between my roommate, Maddy and a young man named Nick. A
typical conversation, turned into an extremely uncomfortable situation for all of us. Something we
definitely did not expect.
On Thursday after class, my roommates Mckenna, Maddy and I were sitting at the cafeteria tables. All
of us were deep into our laptops, and reading assignments, when suddenly a young man approached
my friend Maddy. He states: Hey, want to go out? Maddy looked at us as if she had just seen

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay
Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if
Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the eyes for
about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home décor. Burton in collaboration with
Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty and a beast who falls
in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence, peace, and all those
qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have. Additionally, the beauty Kim
(Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise.
Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin)
treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon discovered
when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains fame around
the community and his disability becomes a tool.
Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the typical
idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a good
helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful sister
approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another phase like
ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock set for Harvard
with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad. The neighbors are
the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad.
Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards
psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the
innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is
hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores the
debts of Edwards mind through his art because it

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech On The Challenger Disaster
On January 28, 1986, Ronald Reagan, comforting and empathetic in his speech entitled Speech on the
Challenger disaster , facilitates the mourning process of the American people following the Challenger
Disaster. He is able to accomplish this by connecting on a personal level with everyone affected by the
tragedy: the school children, family of the deceased, and the entire American population. In addition,
he explains specifically addresses the children with lessons to be learned, and how to move forward.
Finally, He applauds NASA for their hard work and commitment to the space program. Through

Knowing many Americans were lost in the wake of this disaster, Reagan sympathizes by using pathos
in multiple forms. One example is where Reagan says, But we feel the loss, and we re thinking about
you so very much (Reagan 3). His use of the word we helps the audience unite and mourn together as
a country. When he states, we feel the loss (Reagan 3), it makes those who feel alone feel comforted
and feel like they are included. Reagan later says, We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw
them (Reagan 8). This directly puts thoughts of the crew into the minds of the audience in a positive
and remembering fashion. Reagan leaves the emotions of the audience in a mournful but stable state
by putting thoughts of the crew in their minds. Reagan is also able to connect with the audience by
adding specific details, making him seem more authentic. Right from the start Reagan uses ethos when
he says, Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the Shuttle Challenger (Reagan 1). Using
his wife s first name makes it seem more authentic by personalizing the situation to his own life. He is
showing that the Challenger Disaster affects him on a personal level, making whatever he says
pertaining to the disaster more credible. Later, he goes on to explain the situation to the school
children and says, I know it is hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like

Pros And Cons Of Community Corrections
Community Corrections
With any type of crime that is committed by an individual, there comes a set of guidelines to follow
when regarding which punishment that that particular individual will receive based on the
categorization of their crime. Crimes can be inherently categorized into two distinctly different
categories, the first of which being misdemeanors and the second being felonies. Sets of guidelines
will vary when considering the severity of the crime based on which category the crime will fall
under, as well as the prior criminal history of the individual who committed the particular crime that
they are being punished for.
From a statistical standpoint, there are nearly seven million individuals who are currently on
correctional supervision within the United States of America (DeMichele, 2014). Of those seven
million individuals, a meager two million or 30 percent are incarcerated within a jail or prison
environment (DeMichele, 2014). The remaining five million or 70 percent of those seven million are
currently being supervised through community corrections (DeMichele, 2014). The dramatic growth
in community based corrections over the last three decades is nothing short of astounding (Wodahl,
Ogle, Heck, 2011). In a span of less than 30 years, the number of offenders under supervision in the
community has more than tripled, with an estimated 5.1 million people under probation and parole
supervision in 2008 (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011).

Allusions In The Iliad
Homer s Iliad refers to an ancient epic Greek poem. The poem is based on the events of the Trojan
War, the siege of the Troy city by a combination of Greek states that took almost ten years. The poem
outlines the events and battle that took place between the Greeks and the Trojans. The events captured
in the poem cover a few weeks to the end of the war. However, the poem contains deep Greek
mythical allusion. It describes the great Greek legends involved in the siege, the events that occurred
before the actual war such as meeting of the warriors planning the siege, the reason and the foundation
of the battle and the events that happened in the beginning. It further illustrates prophesies of the
future such as the death of the Troy (Iliad, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They are the heroes who receive the support from their gods in the respective communities. They lead
the battle between the Trojans and the Greeks; the attacks are carried out with their consent in front of
the battle. Hector rallies the Trojans to charge forth for the battle. He enters the city and urges prayers
and sacrifices to incite the Paris to battle and bids farewell to his wife and son Astyanax and rejoins
the battle.
The two heroes have supernatural powers that help them in their battle against each other. Both of the
warriors look forward to the support of the gods to win the battle. It is only with the aid of the deities
they can have the ability of defeating their opponents. Hector calls for sacrifices and prayers to the
gods for them to succeed in the fight against the Greeks. The two warriors exhibit significant
stubbornness when the honor issue is at stake. Achilles refuses to lead his army and fight after

A Mass Of Thousands Of People Walk Into The Capital City...
A mass of thousands of people walk into the capital city of Budapest. It is October 23, 1956, a day that
would forever be remembered by Hungarians as the day the Revolution began. This protest quickly
turned into a major rebellion against the Soviets and their policies. Although the Revolution ended in
failure, however, it left a mark on the Soviets, who would eventually lose control nearing the end of
the Cold War. Then, over 30 years after the Revolution, on October 23, 1989, Hungary was declared
as the Third Hungarian Republic. In Hungary today, October 23 is celebrated nationally as Republic
Day, to celebrate the two events that made Hungary what it is today. On October 23 in Hungary today,
there are many events to celebrate Republic Day. The raising of the flag in Kossuth Square initiates
the celebrations nationwide. A memorial ceremony is held with speeches regarding the events
celebrated. Most museums have free admission to see Hungary s history. The Parliament building is
open to the public, and the Grand Staircase, Cupola Hall, and Holy Crown are able to be seen inside.
These activities are held within Hungary, as it is their national holiday. Before standing as an
independent nation, Hungary was a dual monarchy with Austria. Austria Hungary was the empire that
declared war on Serbia, and the conflict soon grew into World War 1. During the war, the empire had
broken down into something very small. In 1920, the Treaty of Trianon officially declared Hungary s

Disadvantages Of Six Sigma
Six Sigma can be seen as a measure of quality that strives for near perfection. Six Sigma is a
disciplined, data driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving toward six
standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process from
manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.
The statistical representation of Six Sigma describes quantitatively how a process is performing. To
achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. A Six
Sigma defect is defined as anything outside of customer specifications. A Six Sigma opportunity is
then the total quantity of chances for a defect. Process sigma can easily be calculated using a Six

It can also be argued that Six Sigma is proactive addressing the entire production process instead of
concentrating only on the end product. The way the concept seeks to find how improvements can be
brought about well before defects are detected.
In spite of its success, Six Sigma quality improvement method is not without some difficulties
(Chakrabarty and Tan ,2007). To begin with, implementing Six Sigma require complete participation
of every employee in the company for the process to be successful. For large companies, getting
everyone thinking and acting with the same goal may present some challenge.
Secondly, the customer focus nature of the measure could present a scenario where customer
satisfaction would hold sway over internal control measures, especially for companies working in the
service sector. Implementing Six Sigma is expensive often involving training a huge chunk of the
companies human resource in six sigma principles this may come at a great cost to the company
involve.
Another point is that because Six Sigma relies heavily on data, a poor data quality can jeopardize the
success of the process.

Peoria God s Glory
His Story for God s Glory It is easier to build strong children than repair broken men (Frederick
Douglass) I am a changed man and on a mission to do God s Will. When I was younger, teenager s
decisions were deemed more goofy and thoughtless back then, but today their decisions and actions
are based on hard headedness and anger; so as a community we must work together for the sake of our
youth as well as our society as a whole, communication from all sides is essential for change and
actually following through with what is needed. As resident of Peoria, he grew up on the Southside
and is a strong staple in that community. His unwavering efforts in bringing attention to community
issues remains a prime focus today and he is steadily becoming a prominent figure, strong organizer

The Film Adaptation Of Richard Matheson s I Am Legend
The film adaptation of Richard Matheson s 1954 novel, I am Legend, was released in December of
2007. Starring Will Smith, and directed by Francis Lawrence, the movie utilizes a viral outbreak,
instead of a bacterium (like the book), to spread the disease (Lawrence). Dr. Alice Krippin genetically
engineers the measles virus to act as an anti cancer treatment. She remarks in an interview that out of
the 10,009 clinical trials, there have been 10,009 confirmed cancer free patients. However, the Krippin
virus mutates within the bodies of the patients and begins destroying what makes them human. KV
becomes transmittable through saliva. New York City is put into a quarantine when the number of
infected become too great, and U.S. Army virologist, Robert Neville, is working to find a solution to
prevent further spread. The virus mutates further and is airborne, leading the president to order the
destruction of the bridges leading off Manhattan and quarantine all the infected on the island.
Revealed through flashbacks, Robert Neville s family dies because of this order. In an attempt to save
his wife and child, he has them evacuated from the Southport dock, but as the helicopter is taking off,
another helicopter collides with theirs, ending in a ball of fire. Three years after the outbreak, Robert
Neville is the sole survivor in New York City, as everyone is either infected or dead. He is
accompanied by his daughter s dog, Sam, and has a resemblance to normal life through

Slaughterhouse Five Critical Analysis
The novel, Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut incorporates complex ideas such as the
destructiveness of war, the insignificance of time, and the morality of suffering through his first hand
experience of the cruelty of bloodshed in World War II. Desperation dictates the actions of society as
the desire of survival urges the importance of crucial decision making. The fictional world of the
Tralfamadorians, the struggle faced by patriotic war soldiers, and the uneasiness among the civilians
attempt to pursue the beautifulness of life within perplexing situations. The absence of free will
alleviates tormentful lives. Betrayal influences the trust held towards a person s surroundings as the
main character, Billy Pilgrim, encounters numerous situations that go against his aspiration. As the
character retains the capability of time traveling through his memories, detailed scenes of his entire
life flashes back several times; the continuous reminder of rejection impairs his ability of acceptance.
When Billy is a young boy, his father forcibly makes him learn how to swim without any guidance,
making the child terrified; however, the moment he discovers the bottom of the pool, the place brings
comfort to him. Although he evades death, Billy resent[s] the rescuing of his life due to his
termination of enjoyment (55). Because he was a naive, immature child at the time, he perceives his
own desires to be above any factors. The exposure to denial at an early age makes

Racial Profiling In The Criminal Justice System
Racial Profiling is used often by law enforcement and is a social problem that displays racial
inequality. Many people are losing lives because of our Criminal Justice System. Most police officers
are prejudice and use stereotypes while pulling over minority groups which include ethnicity s other
than Caucasian. Caucasian s carry the figurative white privilege, so racial profiling is not as common
for white people. Providing examples of how racial profiling in our criminal justice system is
necessary since these are huge problems in American Society. Much evidence exists on the American
institutional systems, cultural norms and values, and even individual experiences that display racial
profiling in the criminal justice system. African Americans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dykstra Crookshanks once said, The criminal justice system is set up to prosecute crimes committed
by those of lower social economic status (2018). One descriptive example is when people wear
hoodies to hide their face while committing crimes while others wear them when due to comfort or
weather conditions. When a white person wears their hood up over their face, police officers do not
grow alarmed. When a black person wears their hood up, officers play the tactic that they are in
danger. The described situation is how Trayvon Martin was killed for his wearing his hood up. Martin,
who was discussed earlier in the paper, was stalked and killed because he had his hood up, even
though he was not participating in criminal activity. George Zimmerman displayed a personal
experience of racial profiling, assuming Martin was a criminal because he was black and wearing his
hood up. Zimmerman was doing race by attacking Martin, only because he was black. I learned in my
race and ethnic course, Young black men in America have come to symbolize a criminal threat
(Dykstra Crookshanks 2018). This comment describes how black people as a whole are assumed to be
criminals or a threat to society by the criminal justice system. Recent research has concluded, In the

The True Meaning Of The Gospel Of God
Around the world and throughout all the different versions of Christianity, there are so many things
that people call the gospel . Some say it is the only way to get to Heaven, or that it is a doctrine of
damnation that God sent us to right our wrongs. Ravi Zacharias stated in a video sermon what he
thinks that the gospel has become when he says, It became I think cheapened and somehow diluted if
not polluted and so an average person who view what is the gospel they say it is the same old thing,
you re a sinner and you re heading to hell... (Zacharias). Most individuals in today s time do not know
what God s true love is or what the real meaning of the gospel is truly because of the situations they
have been in during their lives and what society has made it out to be. According to Webster s
Dictionary the definition of the word gospel is, The message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God,
and salvation, (Webstersdictionary.com). Though this is a technical definition, the Gospel of God is so
much more than just teachings. The Gospel can help those who have never met God, since it is the
good news that should be preached to everyone, it is how believers go and make more disciples
throughout the world, and through it is a way for everyone to connect with God on a personal and
spiritual level.
The Gospel is the Good News
The gospel is considered good news because it shows the truth in how triumphant our God and His
Son have been in conquering death. Jesus was sent down

Ethical Difficulty Between Diversity And Extrinsic Values
Inherently, there exists an ethical difficulty in appraising an intrinsic value, for these values are often
abstract and intangible. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a
value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or
love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how
the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a
greater intrinsic value.
When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator
of the ecosystem value. For example, a desert may only contain tens of species, yet a sub tropical

Guantanamo Bay At The Southeastern Tip Of Cuba
In the Caribbean at the southeastern tip of Cuba is Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. The United States
began leasing this area in 1903 making it the oldest overseas U.S. Navy base. Guantanamo Bay allows
the U.S. an area to establish a detention facility in a secure and isolated location eliminating any
chance the detainees could escape and return back to their countries. In addition, Guantanamo Bay
allowed the U.S. to avoid bringing those individuals suspected of terrorism from entering domestic
soil. As of today, Guantanamo Bay only holds 80 detainees. Since the attack on the World Trade
Center, the US has been holding detainees without trial and there have been reports of torture being
used. This is not only unconstitutional but also immoral, Guantanamo Bay needs to be shut down.
Throughout the last 15 years of operation, Guantanamo Bay has faced endless criticism from both
international countries and the US. The biggest issue is the legal black hole that exists at Guantanamo
Bay and the concern over interrogation techniques and torture. We are able to torture prisoners
because of how George W Bush described the war. Bush thought it was a new kind of war and that
this meant the Americans didn t need adhere the rules of the Geneva Convention, explains Professor
Honigsberg from the University of San Francisco. The convention says prisoners of war must be
treated humanely during a war. But Bush didn t call them prisoners of war but enemy combatants .

Salt Spring Island Research Paper
This is a brief introduction about the place where I m living at this moment: Salt Spring Island.
I will talk about the Island and the people as far as I am able, given my short residence here (I just
arrived 4 months ago).
The Island is located in the Gulf Islands, in the Juan de Fuca Strait between Vancouver and Victoria in
British Columbia, Canada.
Warm weather, virgin nature, beautiful beaches, and colorful people make this place very unique.
The most recent census of the island reports almost 10,000 permanent residents. This number
increases during the summer with lots of tourists and temporary residents.
Most of the people who moved to the island in the 60 s and 70 s were peace activists: U.S. draft
dodgers refusing to serve in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It`s a good place to discover yourself, thus many visitors come to get inspired by the people living
here. There is a special healing energy that you can breathe in everywhere.
The cultural life is surprisingly rich for such a small community; there is a film festival in March,
many concerts and events at the Artspring, a modern theatre. The cinema is located in an old Church,
which is very charming.
There are very interesting and open minded people to talk to everywhere: in the coffee shops, waiting
in the post office line, or walking on a beach.
Saturday s Market is always well attended by locals, tourists and even people from other parts of BC;
you can find incredible produce there as the island has more than 110 farms, most of which are
organic. Moreover, artisan cheeses, breads, beers, and specialty foods can be purchased from the local
artisans. Paintings, sculptures, woodcarvings, pottery, jewelry, bees wax candles and handmade
clothing are also available for

Vietnam War Protest Songs
Other Vietnam War Music Protest Songs During the Vietnam War, there was significant protest songs
released. An example is War by Edwinn Starr, famous for the lyrics War (huh)! What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, say it again! This was also released from the Motown record Label, showing their
quick move into political music and music that directly reflected the feelings of American citizens.
There were several other examples of this kind of music, some released by Motown and others not.
Another great example of a song released with meaning about the Vietnam war was Aretha Franklin s
cover of Respect , originally sung by Otis Redding in 1965 but covered by her in 1967. Her version of
the song changed the meaning of several of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song is set in a major key, and has lots of climbing major thirds which are another indicator of its
major and joyous tone. However, the lyrics oppose this highly. A section of the lyrics are I don t want
to be a soldier! I don t want to go to war! I d rather stay at home, around the streets to roam, and live
on the earnings of a lady typist, I don t want a bayonet in my belly, I don t want my b*llocks shot
away! I d rather stay in England, in merry, merry England, and fornicate my bleedin life away! The
satirical and mocking song shows the reality of life for most soldiers who fought in the war, as most of
them may have been unaware what they were fighting for and would have preferred to stay at home,
had there not been the immense pressure to sign up for the war effort . To summarize, politics has
inspired various pieces of music writing, from soft rock to pop, throughout history and is used as an
outlet to show public response to politicians and their views or laws that they put in place.

Silence In The Chosen
No one can truly understand sympathy until they have suffered. In his The Chosen, a postmodern
novel, Chaim Potok surveys the meaning of compassion learned through suffering. Danny Saunders, a
brilliant Hasidic Jew, lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn along with his friend, Reuven Malter, in the
1940s. With his photographic memory, Danny aspires to become a psychologist, but he knows that he
will have to inherit his father s position as the rabbi of their community. In addition to this, his father,
Reb Saunders, will not speak to him about anything other than the holy book of Talmund. Danny is
forced to keep his ideas and experiences to himself, leading to him suffering because of this silence.
Chaim Potok s The Chosen uses Danny s gradual shift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he talks to Reuven about the silence between him and his father, he remarks, ...you can listen to
silence and learn from it... I feel myself alive in it. It talks. And I can hear it... It has a strange,
beautiful texture... sometimes it cries, and you can hear the pain of the world in it. It hurts to listen to
it then. But you have to (249). Danny begins to understand what silence teaches him. He learns to
listen to the pain of others because he suffers himself. Moreover, as Danny is about to leave to
Columbia for college, Reuven describes, His beard and earlocks were gone, and his face looked pale.
But there was a light in his eyes that was almost blinding... There was a long, gentle silence (270).
Reuven notices that Danny is excited from the light in his eyes, and he now understands that silence is
gentle. Because Danny realizes why Reb raised him in silence, he is no longer confused about his
future. Likewise, when Reuven s father asks Danny if he will raise his own child in silence, he replies,
Yes, if I can t find another way (271). Although Danny anguishes, he plans on raising his child the
same way. He understands how silence taught him compassion, and he learns Reb s purpose for
raising him this way. Due to suffering, Danny understands how to listen to the world s problems

  • 2. I Am A Liberal Conservative Is More Open Minded Than Some... I am a Liberal. A Liberal is more open minded than some other political ideologies. They believe we should all be equal and have the same opportunities in life. The government should help us so we can all be financially stable. Things like health care and food stamps are important because the government should help all of us, if we cannot do that for ourselves. Although liberals want help from the government they don t believe they should control what we do in our personal lives. They are very big advocators for women s rights for this reason. Focusing on actual government, a big belief is that federal government should have more say over citizens instead of letting state government have control over what we do. Along with having laws they believe more laws will help us. It is a way to keep people in line and provide equal opportunity for everyone. I identify as a liberal but I don t hold all the same beliefs as the typical liberals. I come from a big Hispanic Catholic family; I am one of five children. Growing up I would stay with my grandmother most weekends because my house was always so hectic. I obviously was taken to church every Sunday with her, where we would meet with the rest of my family. I would attend my Communion classes before we went to mass. I remember my teachers always telling us how loving and accepting God is. We would sing and color all through class, everything just seemed perfect. When the priest would preach during mass he would say how forgiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bob Garrott Analysis Bob Garrott was our speaker this week. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin for four years and is now the director of the Fish and Wildlife program here at Montana State. He told us that he never wanted to be a professor, up here talking to classrooms like our, but now finds it very satisfying to help train people in an academic environment to be successful in wildlife management. Garrott started out as an undergraduate, a technician working in arctic Alaska. After his first year, he was asked back as a team leader on an arctic fox project, and worked that for about five years, which led him to get a masters degree on arctic foxes. After that, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory on a mule deer study, his wife and him worked as a team on that for about six years before moving back to Montana, where he got another degree. He has enjoyed working all over, including studying wild horses throughout the west, working on a manatees project in Florida, studying sea otters on the California coast, the impact of the Valdes oil spill in Puget Sound, and bycatch issues in the pacific northwest. ... • 4. Similarities Between Frankenstein And Mary Shelly Prior to discussing the merit of either edition of Shelley s work relative to the other, I believe it is essential to qualify the argument with an acknowledgement that both are multi dimensional works that interweave criticisms of society, politics.... into a highly compelling story. That is, both are excellent works that contain subjective elements that can be interpreted in numerous ways. The work of literary critics such as Mary Poovey, Anne Mellor, Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar ostensibly reanimated discussion over the significance of Frankenstein, and consequently Mary Shelley, that may have well never occurred otherwise. Furthermore, their work illuminates many previously ignored facets of Frankenstein, that hold significance not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poovey attributes this concept to imagination, and innate desire. Had Victor not been emboldened to play creator, the Creature would not exist. Yet in this argument, Poovey is conceding that society does not have a place for the Byronic hero, the Creature in this instance, that does not meet aesthetic standards. Had the Creature been accepted by Victor, the De Laceys or society in general, he would never have followed the path of destruction. This recognition is embittered by the Creature s capacity for emotional eloquence exhibited in his monologues in the Alps: Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I am benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend (Shelley P. 77 8). The Creature s helplessness, and society s role in his rejection, is further emphasized in his subsequent narration. The reader learns of the Creature s desperate desire for companionship first from Victor, and subsequently from the De Laceys. Neither Victor, nor the De Laceys, can overcome the Creature s inhuman form. While they are not blameless in the rejection of the Creature, they are indicative of society s inability to accept the otherness embodied by the Creature. In the revised edition, this emphasis is exacerbated by the reader s willingness to forgive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Christianity In The Early Middle Ages Essay Christianity in Europe during the Medieval Period encountered many hindrances such as corruption, sex, the Avignon Captivity, and the Great Schism. However, even though the church encountered many controversies which eventually undermined the foundation of the church, monastic revival reformed the church and ultimately restored the original beliefs. Corruption was present in many forms within the church during the medieval period. Many clergy members were landowners in late medieval Christianity and if they were not, the church would count on the nobles to share their profits from their peasants work. (Christian History, 2015) It was also familiar for members of clergy to buy their positions in order to obtain power and wealth. Priests were also known for visiting taverns, gambling, and having orgies with quarrels and blasphemy. (Arnold, 1999) From the Early Middle Ages, through the reign of Charlemagne, the church accentuated the importance of clerical celibacy, however by Carolingian times, it became apparent that clerical celibacy would be impossible to enforce. The church disclosed that not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. To Kill A Mockingbird Relevance Even though a novel may have been written years ago, it could still be considered relevant to present day. In the case of To Kill a Mockingbird, some teachers still believe it is relevant and teach it to their students. A former teacher at Ames High School in Iowa has stated that he continued to teach To Kill a Mockingbird for his 38 years of teaching because he felt that the book was still relevant through the way it portrayed the love, respect, and courage. He also believed it encouraged students to engage students deep into the story as well as use their imagination (Rhinehart). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Foley, an English teacher in Washington, challenged the use of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Of Mice and Men, and To Kill a Mockingbird in high school English classes due to the racial slurs and the way African Americans are portrayed in the novels. Foley suggested other novels that still fit the curriculum that were considered to be less controversial. He believed his students, who were mostly from minorities, felt uncomfortable and were uninterested in the novels since the racial slurs used were directly aimed at the race they identified with. He stated the his past students would not be able to focus on the overall theme of the book, but focused on the racial language used by the author. He felt the new novels he suggested would be easier for his students to relate to in their subjects and the events that take place within them are more recent (Albright). Foley s solution to his problem is similar to the one mentioned in this essay. The main difference is his motivation behind why the novels need to be changed; instead of just focusing on the relevance of the novel, he focuses on the language and the negative emotions it ... In this particular reaction, before the first step can take place, the alcohol group on 2 methyl 2 butanol is protonated by sulfuric acid so that water is formed as a suitable leaving group. The first step can then take place: the loss of water as leaving group to form a carbocation intermediate. Then, a beta proton is eliminated resulting in the formation of a double bond, forming an alkene. In this reaction, a major product (2 methyl 2 butene) and a minor product (2 methyl 1 butene) are formed. Two products were formed because two different beta protons were available for elimination, resulting in the double bond being put in two different positions. However, one of the products is favored and considered major because of Zaitsev s rule that states the more substituted alkene is favored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf remains loyal to King Hrothgar and as he promised to purge the mead hall of its murderous foes, he fulfills his pledge by killing not only Grendel, but also Grendel s mother. Beowulf in turn is also loyal to his men as he states to King Hrothgar, ...if I at your need I should go from life, you would always be in a father s place for me when I am gone: be guardian of my young retainers, my companions, if battle should take me. • 10. Explain Paley s Argument for the Existence of God 4a. Explain Paley s argument for the existence of God (25) William Paley s argument for the existence of God is an important aspect of the Design argument, which argues that the universe is being directed towards an end purpose due to the a posteriori (subject to experience) evidence of an intelligent designer, who is God. This is because it is perhaps arguably the most famous version, and the theory which modern day theories for the Design argument are built upon. The first version of the Design argument came from Plato, a Greek philosopher, who developed it to address the universe s apparent order. The universe has no purpose. Discuss. (10) It has often been a long running debate between scholars over whether or not the universe has no purpose. I personally believe it does not, for a variety of reasons. One reason is in regards to Paley s argument, which is that it depends on having one view of the world, whereas it realistically is more subjective. If you perceive the world as having order and happiness within this order then there is no issue. However, if you have been greatly effected by the evil and suffering in the world of are a pessimist, you would be more inclined to believe the world to be flawed, or as the 18th century philosopher David Hume put forward, the idea that it was the first flawed work of some infant deity. Also, as the 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant put forward, it is possible that there is no order in the world at all, and that we humans have simply imposed order on our surroundings due to our minds categorizing it as such. Another reason I do not believe that the universe has a purpose is due to the brutality of nature, rather than peaceful harmony. As put forward by Herbert Spencer, a 19th century ... However sales were low and public awareness was lacking. The company was using the majority of its funds on the products line extension and little on advertisement and product placement. This is the key factor in the poor sales in Essex because the public isn t aware of ACL Clean and its benefits. Promoting ACL clean as the product that will achieve this will increase product awareness, create brand loyalty, and ultimately increase sales. However, as many first time buyers have been using other cleaning equipment or have used other products related to car care, introducing ACL clean as a premium product will be a daunting task because there is already an established brand loyalty to other products, even though they are not as good as ACL clean. With establishment of the original ACL clean product in the market the opportunities of the line extensions are limitless. A great way to promote ACL clean in the Essex market would be through public relations. A great strategy would be to sponsor an event such as a cleaning equipment show in Essex region. Alternative 2 Another effective means of marketing ACL clean to the Essex Region as a great product with quality safety benefits would be through alliance with healthcare companies and local authorities. Alternative 3 Advertising is the most obvious and effective choice to place ACL clean in the consumers mind, just as it has in the Hampshire. Within the last two works, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and The Jungle Book, present the importance of education in the form of not only enlightenment, but also as a tool to ensure clarity of mind and ambitions. In a current sense, we are dealing with the same sort of issues in education. Although the British see India simply as a land to colonize, they are resistant to even contemplating the idea of accepting some of the Indian traditions. The current pieties of the Indian culture were not only decimated, but were being suppressed. We also see this form of resistance in education as well. The state now requires standards of technology to be included in every lesson plan that it taught. For traditional teachers who have no experience with much of the technology, this can be overwhelming and they resist it on all fronts because they do not understand it. We see this concept of the expectation for us to drop the traditional ideals or techniques that we know well for something that is supposedly better within the jungle in the story The Miracle of Purun Bhagat: He had been, as the Old Law recommends, twenty years a youth, twenty years a fighter though he had never carried a weapon in his life and twenty years the head of a household. He had used his wealth and his power for what he known both to be worth; he had taken honor when it came his way; he had seen men and cities far and near, and men and cities had stood up and honored him. • 13. Compare Health Expenditures After the end of World War II, there was an ideological battle between the capitalistic ideals and the communist ideals. Many decades later we can still see the remnant of the ideological differences between the countries of each side of the iron curtain. One of the ways we can interpret the differences between each country in Europe s economic and ideological advancement is by comparing the Health expenditures. Health expenditures are defined by CIA World Fact Book as the statistic that provides the total expenditure on health a percentage of GDP. Those expenditures are activities performed either by institutions or individuals through application of medical knowledge and technology, the primary purpose of which is to promote, restore, or maintain health. This percentage can differentiate countries that spend a lot on health compared to other; those countries that spend a lot on health are typically more economically progressed. The best example of which is the United States being at the top of the list, spending 17.90% of their GDP on health expenditures. Meanwhile the bottom of the list has Burma spending a meager 1.80% of their GDP on health on expenditures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone has their own opinion, I am without a doubt prolife. Abortion should be illegal for thousands of reason. Some reasons that make me so passionate that abortion should be illegal is the fact that abortion is murder, it s making human life disposable, there are other options instead of abortion like adoption, abortion can cause serious medical problems in a women, and there are many women looking to adopt children. If murder is illegal why isn t abortion, abortion is just another form of murder. It s making human life disposable by giving women the chance to get rid of a problem they do not want to deal with. No one would kill a one year old child because they didn t feel like dealing with them anymore so why should abortion be allowed? The Importance Of Favorites In The Family Favorites in the Family: How Birth Order affects parental favoritism in the role of the family and what it means for the rest of the children When children ask their parents which sibling they like the most, the majority of parents will answer something to the extent of, I love all of my children equally, or I don t have a favorite. Although it would be nice if these statements were true, most parents have a favorite in one way or another. Parents and socially acceptable parenting styles have evolved over time, but parental favoritism for children has not. Each child in a family, favorite child or not, has their own personality. Although these traits are sometimes heightened when they are the favorite child, these personalities hold true for youngest, middle, and oldest children. The first born children tend to be the strong leaders that strive for achievement in order to impress their parents. If the oldest is not perceived as the favorite, it may cause them to try even harder to impress their parents and prove to them why they should be the favorite. The youngest children tend to be the most rebellious, but also the ones who grow up to be the best with people. Youngest children also aim to have the most attention from parents growing up. The middle child tends to be the family peacekeeper. They are the most agreeable and help settle arguments when needed. Rita Dove poem, Daystar, illustrates just that. A woman who feels trapped because of her role as a mother and wife. Daystar comes from a book of poems written by Dove entitled Thomas and Beulah, which tells both the real and unreal stories of dove s maternal grandparents (Bartleby). So is it safe to say this can be a metaphor for the mother s hope for a more relaxing and peaceful life? Another major aspect that readers can see fuel the speakers need for relaxation is the setting of the poem. The entirety of Dove s poem takes places in a family. While the speaker is surrounded by work that needs a consistent amount of doing, she is undoubtedly in need of her own. Because the author never mentions what the speaker is like outside of the home, it s hard for one to imagine what she is like outside of the home. This fact lends to the idea that motherhood can be a tough job for many, as it gives the impression that she is stuck in a jail cell. ...so she lugged a chair (Dove 4) can lead the reader to think the speaker is more of an object than an actual person. This ad featured a very rough map of the United States with the company s logo over the heart of the map and only five words said in it. (Luckin) Since the first ad, commercials have developed into very in depth systematic ways for companies to show off their product to the consumer. Almost every large company has used this method to brand themselves. The ASPCA is no different when it comes to this matter. They have put out a numerous number of commercials to try to get people to donate to their cause. In the ad entitled If Animals Could Speak the ASPCA uses gut wrenching images of animals, slow music, text, and a desperate voice to successfully persuade the viewer into donating to their company or saving an animal. If Animals Could Speak starts out with an image of a dog sitting in a cage. The camera slowly begins to zoom in on the dog s face. While this is happening words slowly begin to appear on the screen that say If I could speak I would tell you it hurts when you hit me. Oil spills are usually associated with environmental disasters; because of this the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and related policies have inadequate amount of tools that will help humans deal with these accidents. When the Macondo blow out happened, we had to assess the impact that it also had on human health, mental and physical because it had affected a large area. The Macondo spill unfortunately happened less than five years after Hurricane Katrina damaged Louisiana and Mississippi coast. Clearly, a lesson that was learnt from the oil spill was that the nation wasn t prepared for widespread, poor effects on human health and mental well being. Most of the communities along the Gulf had resided there for the majority of their lives or at least 20 years; this oil spill had worried the residents about payments, money issues, and the stability of their communities, which in turn affected their health. From what happened during Hurricane Katrina and now the oil spill, speakers Sharon Gauthe and Gracie Scire are really trying to stress the importance of the need for additional community mental health services. As a result, one s social, and in this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health outcomes. When the body cells die due to necrosis, it causes serious inflammation and further injury in the body (Martes, 2014). The other way of cell death is apoptosis. It is also called as programmed cell death. It follows a predictable and control routine (Kogel Prehn, 2013). Abnormal apoptosis, either too much or too little of it can cause many serious diseases in human such as neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune disorders, ischemic damage and many types of cancer (Elmore, 2007). Therefore, the field of apoptosis is gaining attention in the research to analyze the signaling pathways of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Social Penetration Theory Is Defined As The Process Of... According to Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor, Social Penetration Theory is defined as the process of bonding that moves a relationship from superficial to more intimate. The theory can be perceived as a game plan for people, especially in a relationship. This can give you guidance on how to interact with individuals in order to establish a stable, and developing relationship through interpersonal communication. For example, when you encounter someone whom you ve never met before, you may ask some questions to learn a little bit about this person. We tend to exchange information back and forth by asking people questions. Essentially, this is what social penetration theory does. It looks at how we exchange and share information with people that we have never met before and how we self disclose. Self disclosure can be separated into the theories three main concepts: depth, breadth, and reciprocity. These important concepts of Social Penetration Theory were clearly shown when I witnessed an unusual conversation between my roommate, Maddy and a young man named Nick. A typical conversation, turned into an extremely uncomfortable situation for all of us. Something we definitely did not expect. On Thursday after class, my roommates Mckenna, Maddy and I were sitting at the cafeteria tables. All of us were deep into our laptops, and reading assignments, when suddenly a young man approached my friend Maddy. He states: Hey, want to go out? Maddy looked at us as if she had just seen ... • 34. Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the eyes for about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home décor. Burton in collaboration with Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty and a beast who falls in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence, peace, and all those qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have. Additionally, the beauty Kim (Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise. Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin) treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon discovered when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains fame around the community and his disability becomes a tool. Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the typical idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a good helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful sister approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another phase like ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock set for Harvard with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad. The neighbors are the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad. Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores the debts of Edwards mind through his art because it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One example is where Reagan says, But we feel the loss, and we re thinking about you so very much (Reagan 3). His use of the word we helps the audience unite and mourn together as a country. When he states, we feel the loss (Reagan 3), it makes those who feel alone feel comforted and feel like they are included. Reagan later says, We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them (Reagan 8). This directly puts thoughts of the crew into the minds of the audience in a positive and remembering fashion. Reagan leaves the emotions of the audience in a mournful but stable state by putting thoughts of the crew in their minds. Reagan is also able to connect with the audience by adding specific details, making him seem more authentic. Right from the start Reagan uses ethos when he says, Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the Shuttle Challenger (Reagan 1). Using his wife s first name makes it seem more authentic by personalizing the situation to his own life. • 38. Pros And Cons Of Community Corrections Community Corrections With any type of crime that is committed by an individual, there comes a set of guidelines to follow when regarding which punishment that that particular individual will receive based on the categorization of their crime. Crimes can be inherently categorized into two distinctly different categories, the first of which being misdemeanors and the second being felonies. Sets of guidelines will vary when considering the severity of the crime based on which category the crime will fall under, as well as the prior criminal history of the individual who committed the particular crime that they are being punished for. From a statistical standpoint, there are nearly seven million individuals who are currently on correctional supervision within the United States of America (DeMichele, 2014). Of those seven million individuals, a meager two million or 30 percent are incarcerated within a jail or prison environment (DeMichele, 2014). The remaining five million or 70 percent of those seven million are currently being supervised through community corrections (DeMichele, 2014). The dramatic growth in community based corrections over the last three decades is nothing short of astounding (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011). In a span of less than 30 years, the number of offenders under supervision in the community has more than tripled, with an estimated 5.1 million people under probation and parole supervision in 2008 (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011).
