Kent State Massacres
Kasem Ahmed The Fight of the Century On March 8, 1971 eight ordinary citizens broke into an FBI
office in Media, Pennsylvania, a town just outside Philadelphia, took hundreds of secret files, and
shared them with the public. In doing so, they uncovered the FBI s vast and illegal regime of spying
and intimidation of Americans exercising their First Amendment rights. Although the FBI claimed
there were just a few things missing, about 1,000 files were removed and leaked to the press. This
started the most extensive expose and investigation of the FBI and the largest man/woman hunts the
FBI ever conducted. A little over four decades later, during the spring and summer of 2013, an
American citizen drew international attention after deliberately ... Show more content on

After the documents were released, NBC reporter Carl Stern filed several Freedom of Information Act
requests and a lawsuit against the Justice Department and the FBI.[7] Ultimately, Carl Stern obtained
the documents and it was revealed to the American public that COINTELPRO was a series of
counterintelligence operations aimed at surveying, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting domestic
political organizations. [8] This was the first major impact of the burglary, it led to the media gaining
unrestricted access to FBI records. This was huge because now the media, government officials and
the American public weren t dependent on the FBI s testimony about their programs, rather everyone

One Less Lonely Girl Play Analysis
On Friday, November 23, at 7 p.m., I went to see the DHS Factor, with a friend, at the Richard
Brunelle Performance Hall. I chose to attend this performance because I was interested in seeing
different people from our school perform in front of an audience. It was nice to see the wide variety of
talent that is found at our school. A nice touch to the production was having a student, teacher, and
former student be the judges for the night. The final student act in the production of the DHS Factor
was a performance by seniors, Will Wyman and Iain Smith. Unlike the rest of the contestants, they had
a more satirical approach to their performance. They chose to sing the song, One Less Lonely Girl by
Justin Bieber. It was clear from the very beginning of their act, that they were not trying to hit the
notes, just simply trying to be obnoxious and funny. This is similar to the plays ... Show more content

One act in particular stood out as a parallel to the acts performed by the King and the Duke in the
story. Both of these groups cared about money, in the King and Duke s case, or winning over the
audience, in the case of the Will and Iain s act. In other words, they wanted popularity over realness.
Nobody seemed to care in both circumstances that the performances were meant as a serious
representation of the talent show. Will and Iain s act included singing and dancing, but that was only
the surface of their talent . Their true talent was making the audience laugh. For the King and the
Duke, their audience was glad to have a performance that made them laugh as well. It was different
than just a reenactment of a Shakespearean play, which eventually led to what the King and Duke
wanted most, money. These two groups showed that you can do more than what the people are
expecting and that you can use your humorous personality for the greater

Essay on The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast
A fairytale is a fictional fantasy fable that passes through generations of children as source of interest
to them. Though used for the intent of entertainment, fairytales often indirectly advocate a moral or
message to readers (whom are usually children), in hopes that they will grow up to apply these ethics
and lead a righteous life. This criteria, however, often originates from the occurrence of a magical
transformation; it is this paranormality that introduces the characters of the story to a side of life far
from what they have grown to know and learn to adapt to the dramatic amend in their life. This is
evident in the characters in world renowned tales such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and
the Beast. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the story progresses, Eric does come to know of Ariel s true identity as a mermaid, nevertheless he
still loves her; she doesn t need to change herself for it wasn t what she is that he fell in love with; but,
it is who she is. The classic tale of The Little Mermaid is gives strong evidence as to how the basis of
a fairytale essentially lies within the occurrence of a magical transformation. The importance of
magical transformation is also present in the enchanting saga of Aladdin. Aladdin is an illicit, street rat
whom is, perhaps, the most wanted criminal in Agrabah by the federals. Due to his meagre
circumstances, Aladdin relies on robbery as his means of survival. After narrowly escaping the wrath
of the police, he comes across Jasmine, a disguised runaway princess. Jasmine is the headstrong
young woman and the princess of Agrabah whom after being caged within the palace and isolated
from anything and anyone beyond it her entire life, runs away to find happiness. Aladdin, whom
initially believes that Jasmine is merely a commoner, is quick to fall in love with her, though later her
identity is exposed and she returns back to the palace. Aladdin eventually is caught and imprisoned
when Jafar, a menace acting as the royal vizier for the king (Jasmine s father), disguised as an old
man, tricks Aladdin into retrieving a lamp for him. Before Jafar could kill Aladdin and claim the lamp
for himself, Aladdin manages to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Rob Green s Speech Afraid All Over
I went to TEDxUSD on Saturday, November 5, which is a TED talks that is independently organized
by the University of South Dakota. Multiple people spoke at the event including Rob Green, Casey
Finnicum, Jeff Gould and Lindsey Meyers. This event was hosted in Aalfs Auditorium on the
University of South Dakota campus. The purpose of the speeches was not only to entertain the
audience, but also to inform the audience of topics important to the speaker. They also used their
speeches to persuade the audience. For this criticism, I will talk about Rob Green s speech, Afraid All
Over. His specific goal for the speech was to persuade his audience to not let fears control your life.
He accomplished this by informing us of three ways he got over his ... Show more content on

He used basic transitions to connect each part to each other. I thought that the use of simple transitions
was very effective because it kept the atmosphere of storytelling alive. Green used a call to action as
his conclusion to say why you should not let fears get the best of you. He wanted to make us ponder
about how small our world would be if we let fears build up walls in our life. I enjoyed Rob Green s
delivery. He used a story telling atmosphere to his speech and made the atmosphere feel like we were
two old friends talking around the fireplace. His delivery was solid and I did not feel that any part was
distracting. The tone of voice and rate were very conversational and he used his hands to aid in the
story. He did not use his hands too little or too much. Rob walked around the circle telling his story
and moved aside to show us his pictures. TEDxUSD did not have any podiums to use, but Rob used
his whole circle of carpet to speak. The lighting was just a spotlight on Rob which made it easy for the
audience to see him. There was no question and answer session to his speech. My favorite part of his
delivery was the use of pictures and a video in his presentation. He used them to aid in giving us the
full picture of his experiences. Overall, I thought Rob Green did a fantastic job of

Designing A Curriculum Using The Understanding By Design...
The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design
framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives.
Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning.
Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing
instruction.
Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding
and make informed decisions about instruction.
After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I have
gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi
layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I need to first
assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is important to
learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first
civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as
understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states, in
relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a variety of areas.
Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do.
The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding

Quetiapine Research Papers
Astrocyte dependent protective effect of quetiapine on GABAergic neuron is associated with the
prevention of anxiety like behaviors in aging mice after long term treatment Authors Abstract Previous
studies have demonstrated that quetiapine (QTP) may have neuroprotective properties; however, the
underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we identified a novel mechanism
by which QTP increased the synthesis of ATP in astrocytes and protected GABAergic neurons from
aging induced death. In 12 month old mice, QTP significantly improved cell number of GABAegic
neurons in the cortex and ameliorated anxiety like behaviors compared to control group.

2009). Although QTP is thought to interact with neurotransmitter receptors, the drug has also been
known to significantly affect other systems in central nerve system (CNS). Our previous studies have
shown that QTP may be a neuroprotectant (Bai et al. 2002; Wang et al. 2005). In a bilateral common
carotid artery occlusion (CCAO) mouse model, we found QTP to significantly attenuate spatial
memory impairment and neuronal cell loss in hippocampus (Yan et al. 2007a). Although the critical
neuroprotective and neurotrophic role of QTP treatment has been well established at the experimental
level, very little is known about the downstream mechanisms responsible for the beneficial influences
of the drug. A growing body of literature has shown that a deficit in the GABAergic system is
involved in a variety of psychological disorders, including schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression
(Lydiard 2003; Costa et al. 2004). The decrease of GABAergic signaling was considered to be one of
the most robust pathologies observed in schizophrenia (Lodge et al. 2009). In addition, glutamic acid
decarboxylase (GAD), which is an enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of glutamate to GABA
in interneurons, was markedly reduced in schizophrenia patients (Hashimoto et al. 2003). Dysfunction

Utilitarianism In Healthcare
The healthcare industry is unlike other industries, it is complex and complicate which requires high
fixed costs and intense investment in capital and labor expenses. Innovations that improve the
proposition of health care such as lower costs and better outcome without a substantial wait time can
be timely. While the costs of health care are expensive in the United States, people find an alternative
way to access medical care and procedure in a foreign country. The phenomenon when people travel
to another country seeking medical treatment or procedure is considered medical tourism. Medical
tourism is not a new concept, the rise of neoliberalism and economic globalization in the past few
decades has resulted in health care being increasingly

To cite another instance, when the children were on the road, Dicey? Maybeth said. Yes, Maybeth,
Dicey answered, without turning her head. Food, money, a way forward [on the road]. They had none.
[Maybeth said] What s wrong? Dicey almost laughed. What s right? is what she wanted to answer, but
she didn t speak. Never mind the way forward [on the road], you couldn t get without money and they
had none, (p.94). This verifies that one symbol is the long road and it symbolizes all four children s
hardships, their hopelessness, and their poverty because nothing right is going on in their lives. On the
long road, you couldn t get money to buy food. That shows poverty. On the road, they have to walk a
long way forward while they are hungry and tired. Now that the children are stopping and just giving
up, it shows that they have no hope in themselves. If they had hope, Dicey could ve kept walking and
find people to give her a job so she can earn money. For now, they are hopeless with no money or food
on the long road. Another symbol is the sailboat and it symbolizes the hope the children need, and
Dicey s want to be accepted and taken in by her grandmother. Furthermore, the sailboat is damaged
and ugly, but Dicey finds hope in it, and had thoughts of fixing it and sailing it with her grandmother
and siblings. For instance, when Dicey discovers the boat, the text states, A sailboat. It was small, only
fourteen or fifteen feet. It

Film, Born Into Brothels
In the film, Born into Brothels (2004), British filmmakers Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman setout to
present a perspective from the children of sex workers living in Red Light District of Sonagachi,
Calcutta. This film, however incidental, demonstrate single narratives on the basis of morality,
sexuality, and preconceived notions about the third world. Their attempt at filming an impartial
ethnographic film that spoke of the true nature of life as a child in the Red Light District of Calcutta
failed from their Western gaze and lack of insight about the community of Sonagachi to contextualize
how the Red Light District and the poverty surrounding are a result of globalization. Acknowledging
the before that Briski and Kauffman could never understand about the Red Light District because of
their limited Western understanding about the third world, would ve resulted in a more inclusive look
into the subjective perspectives of the children. Instead, using footage and still pictures of the dirty
allies, children covered in what seems to be oil, naked children chained like animals in a zoo, etc, as
an aesthetic (lens) used to reproduce hegemonic narratives about the third world and objectively
reflect reality. Additionally, these shots separate the people of the Red Light District from Westerners
and establishes and us and a them , them being objects and not full established subjects. Starting from
the film s cover, one can already know what the film entails. The cover has

The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay
The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration
According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited
congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth, most
eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired
population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration,
or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the
retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). It is important to understand that when
this degeneration progresses enough, the condition constitutes blindness because the foveal area is

Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through
their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress. Two
main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments.
According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the cause is
learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory explaining the
choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this
theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G.
Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in subjects with AMD to
a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in
the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects
with ten or more large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No
significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was revealed between the
subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They
claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect method for such a study because of multiple light
scattering properties of the tissue. They also

Analysis Of The Poem A Sorrowful Woman
Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin 39). This short story
begins with the famous opening, once upon a time, which foreshadows that the story line will be
similar to a fairy tale. It raises expectations for the story that all will be magical and end happily. A
typical modern day fairy tale is that of a distressed character who overcomes an obstacle, falls in love
with prince charming, and they ride off into the sunset; living happily ever after never to be heard
from again. Godwin however, puts an unexpected twist on A Sorrowful Woman . This short story is a
tale about what can happen when everyday roles take over our identity. Ultimately, this short story
challenges societal expectations of marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divorce from marriage would break the bounds of normality for this time period. Traditionally,
women were stay at home who tended to the children, house chores, and duties when needed.
Purposely, Godwin doesn t give the characters names. This is important because it implies that the
characters are not people, but they represent their role within the family. Godwin mocks a fairy tale by
having the characters actions contradict expectations. This is shown when the mother is literally sick
at the sight of her family (Godwin 39). Also when the child pretends to be a tiger and scratches the
mother, scaring her off so she didn t want to be alone with the boy anymore. The husband doesn t save
the wife from her state, he simply understands it and finds other solutions. He hires a girl to help care
for the boy, but the mother resents this. The mother wishes to be happy with her roles but she cannot
accept them, and despises the perfect girl for doing what she is unable to (Godwin 40 41 ).
The mother leads a life where her duties and societal expectations are met, but by doing this her
happiness is lost. Once upon a time implies that she thought her life as a wife and mother would be
perfect. The wife even attempts to find new roles to replace the ones she holds which do not suit her,
She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them (Godwin 42).

The mobile Internet is growing, fueled by increasing invasions of smartphone and better networks.
Here the question arise that what is the smartphone? The smartphone is a cellular phone that operates
many of the roles of a computer, holding Internet access, a touchscreen interface, and a various
operating system that enables downloaded applications to run. In this modern society, with
smartphones, tablets and cloud computing, everything is moving around quickly. The growing abilities
of mobile phones are positioning them as the technology of choice, replacing PCs, for many users. As
such, the use of these devices must be considered as a vital learning device available to higher
education. According to Lacohee, Wakeford, Pearson, 2003, in the initial rise of mobile technology
advancement, cell phones were exclusive devices originally used by middle and upper class people.
Smartphones has the facilities to transmit and receive calls and create and accept text messages, as

Jeans are something that we think it is a fashion statement but they aren t. The real reasons jeans were
made for is for miners during the gold rush. The person who made them was a guy named Levi
Strauss, but he didn t intend on making them he wanted to make tents and wagon covers. He made
pants that were made for working into a style forever. Man, that is a lot right who knows. Levi Sounds

Canada s Constitutional Issue Of Canada
For over fifty years, the status of Canada s constitution has been unable to fully unify, due to the fact
that Canada has been unable to address Quebec s constitutional concerns. Much of the ongoing debate
addresses if the Constitution should recognize the francophone population of Quebec as a separate
nation or a distinct society, with a separate laid out set of different characteristics and needs from the
rest of the provinces in Canada . An important question should be how Canada can best acknowledge,

Various previous attempts to reach an agreement have failed, as they have been unable to address
these issues. However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional
amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the
Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to
make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made
without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a
quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the
Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s
multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive
character of Quebec.
Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious
attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the
nation together. Had Meech Lake been successful, it would have respected Quebec s genuine wish to
be recognized as a distinct society. Meech Lake would have been able to forge universal language
rights because both official languages would receive the same amount of respect in Quebec as it does

The Importance of Men and Women Spies in the American Civil War
The American Civil War started because the North and the South disagreed on the main issue of
slavery and lasted for four years. They could not agree whether to prohibit slavery in territories that
had not become states yet. After the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the Southern states had a
major conflict with Lincoln becoming president and seven slave states succeeded from the Union and
made the Confederate States of America. The Union refused to recognize the southern states in that
way. Lincoln declared these acts to be illegal and asked Congress for 500,000 soldiers to conquer what

Woman were easily trusted and were looked at as non threatening. Men dominated the Civil War.
Women were not as praised as men to fight the war and because of that it helped women become
undetected as spies. Men would go to dinner parties at women s houses and the women would secretly
gather information and hid it in their hoop skirts. When giving messages to their side, some spies
would code them or write in invisible ink, using letters and numbers. The messages usually contained
enemy plans and movements, their supplies, troop size, and where their forts were. Messages and
contraband were usually hid in their clothing or large metal buttons. Medical supplies were one of the
most important things to smuggle over enemy lines. The Confederate hospitals were in dire need of
supplies. Emeline Pigott was a Confederate spy from North Carolina who gathered military
information by entertaining Union officials at dinner parties in her own home. She hid critical papers
and smuggled, ammunition and medicine in the crease of her bulky skirts, which she later gave to the

Dangerous Driving Habits
In today s world, many drivers have become complacent in the fact that the vehicle in which they are
operating can be a deadly weapon. A two ton hunk of metal flying down the freeway at speeds excess
of seventy miles an hour carries much potential for catastrophe.
Dangerous driving habits result in the death of thousands of people each year; however, by taking
steps to educate young drivers on dangerous habits behind the wheel; countless lives could be saved.
Distracting driving is a common occurrence with modern day drivers. Due to technological advances
making electronics so easy to use on the go, many find themselves spending more time looking at
their cell phone or navigation system than they do looking at the road. According to the NHTSA,
distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,477 people in 2015 alone. Texting and driving is a common
distraction, especially when it comes to the younger generation of drivers. Young drivers are oblivious
to the dangers of what seems like such a harmless act. Studies have shown that one 1 in 4 accidents
are caused by texting and driving. The number of people injured from distracted drivers in 2015 was
391,000. Over half of the nation s car accidents are a result of texting and driving. Whereas drinking
and driving may kill more people, the leading cause of car accidents is in fact texting and driving.

have very well been avoided

Ancient Greece Democracy
Ancient Greece is often thought of as being the birthplace of democracy. However, by taking a closer
look at the modes of government, it is clear that many elements of democracy today were not present
in society. Democracy is viewed very differently today than it was looked at in Greece, with the
meaning of equality somehow changing over thousands of years. The ways that people participated
and were represented in government has also changed, and does not show many aspects of today s
democracy. With taking a closer look of the representation of ancient peoples, the role of women in
ancient Greek society is also not substantial. Ancient Greece was fairly democratic because of the
connections that ancient Greek government has to governments around the globe today, the
participation of the people, as well as the role women played. Today democracy is often known for
letting everyone have a say in government and letting people choose who represents them or letting
them represent themselves. Although some aspect of democracy are prevalent in ancient Greece, there
are exceptions which show how undemocratic life truly was. According to The Oration of Pericles

The Uses Of Computers
For agents to provide an excellent level of assistance, they need the greatest tools that you can provide

Hardware, the equipment that agents use
Software, the user interfaces that the agents use
Training, probably the most important toolkit an agent can have
Hardware
Perhaps the best place to start is with the most simple equipment. The price of computers has fallen
substantially over the past few years, so big gains can be made from a relatively meager expense.
Inadequate, low quality computers influence users badly in two main ways. The first is the difficulty

There is a trend, prevalent in a lot of contact centers, to put continuous systems issues in the too

the customer experience and the capacity of agents to solve interactions.
There s a manageable mantra for evaluating systems performance: Reliability, Availability, and
Maintainability (RAM). That involves ensuring new systems normally work, that they have limited
downtime, and that they can be corrected efficiently when failing.
Knowledge Management Systems
Within every business, there is a lot of knowledge and experience locked within the workforce, and
discovering a way to merge it is advantageous for both the agents and the business.
The difference between Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) and intranets is shorter than it used

simple way for employees to communicate across the business, however universally spread they are
geographically.
One of the principal reasons this communication has been important to businesses is the training and
collaboration assistance it can allow. This kind of knowledge distribution tends to be how non

in San Juan Bautista, CA with an estimated budget of $2,479,000 and grossed $3,200,000 at the box
office. The film s runtime was 128 minutes long. It was based on a 1954 crime novel written by Pierre
Bioleau and Pierre Ayraud called Sueurs Froides: D Entre les Morts which means Cold Sweat: From
Among the Dead. This film is filled with a lot of passion and well polished acting and several
confusing plot twists. Paying attention to the details of the character s actions helped to understand
some of the confusing scenes and what was going on in the movie overall. Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo is
an impractical tale filled with fascination, manipulation and fear. Detective John Ferguson is required
to stop working after his fear of heights also known as a condition called Acrophobia results, in the
death of a colleague. An acquaintance of his Gavin Elster, asked him to follow his wife Madeleine to
examine her mysterious behavior. Gavin feared that his wife is possessed by her deceased great
grandmother Carlotta Valdez. John reluctantly agreed to do the investigation until he saw how
beautiful Madeleine was, and ended up falling in love with her. As it turns out Madeline s great
grandmother committed suicide at age 26, Madeline s same age. Gavin feared that she may do the
same. John ends up becoming obsessed and ends up falling in love with her which leads to a cycle of

Transportation off site emissions are emissions that are generated from cradle to gate. The total
emissions index is used to assess each alternative where overall emissions are divided into direct and

Antibiotics And Antibiotic Resistance
When a bacteria is exposed to antibiotics, they are not always guaranteed to die. This is called
antibiotic resistance. Sometimes antibiotics can only stop the bacteria from multiplying (make it
stagnate), and other times it causes the bacteria to multiply even more. These three results depend on
antibiotic concentration, bacterial mutation, and bacterial genetic exchange. One big factor in the
resistance bacteria show towards antibiotics is antibiotic concentration. Usually, if large amounts of an
antibiotic are attacking a bacteria it will stop the multiplication process and even kill it off, but if there
is small amounts of antibiotic it will allow the bacteria to continue to spread. You can find many
bacteria in a jelly like biofilm which provides a shield to them. ... Show more content on

The bacteria can form the ability to completely remove the antibiotic from its cell.
3. The wall of the bacteria can create a barrier to keep the antibiotic from getting in.
4. The bacteria become accustomed to a new way of handling energy.
Scientists have to keep up with the bacteria s mutations, and it may require them making a new
antibiotic for each one.
The third and final factor in bacterial resistance to antibiotics is bacterial genetic exchange. It is very
common for bacteria to share genetic info between cells even if the bacteria are not the same species.
When this happens, genes and DNA get mixed into different species allowing more mutations against
the antibiotics.
The only way for scientists to know if the bacteria is going to resist their antibiotic is for them to
perform tests. Even if the antibiotic proves to work in their experiment, scientists can never tell when
the bacteria is going to mutate and possibly gain new defenses that can deactivate their antibiotic.
Antibiotic concentration, bacterial mutation, and bacterial genetic exchange are all responsible for
bacterial resistance against antibiotics, and make it very difficult to create antibiotics against the

Lady Capulet In Romeo And Juliet
Lady Capulet, mostly known for being Juliet s mother, is the wife of the rich patriarch of the Capulet
family, therefore, she is high up in the aristocracy. Their family have specific ways in which they must
carry themselves. Lady Capulet is never seen exhibiting any behavior that could be misconstrued as
inappropriate, and is always worried about what others will think. For example, as woman who herself
married young, is very eager for her daughter to marry Paris, a kinsman of the Prince. Her only wish is
for her daughter to fulfill her duty as a woman in the Elizibeathen Era, which is basically to marry
someone of high social status and with a large amount of money. If Juliet were to not be married or if
it were to a lowly man, she would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this, Lady Capulet is portrayed as the submissive wife, similar to the original play does.
Unfortunately, in that time, that view of woman came very easily to the actors because it was the view
that was held by most then. She always let her husband take the control from her. When she would get
mad at her daughter for not obeying, she would let Capulet practically verbally abuse Juliet. She
warns Juliet of how mad her father will get, but doesn t discipline Juliet, herself. This is just one
example of her stepping aside to Capulet. In the play, it seems that Lady Capulet leaves more of a
statement, but in the movie, she speaks under her breath, as though she is scared of her own husband.
This is not the only time this occurs. In Act I Scene I, her husband calls for his sword, but she, almost
whispering it says that he needs a crutch instead. This, of course, saying that he is too old for fighting
in a more playful way, yet her body language conveyed that she felt uncomfortable. In the play, she
says it like she is mocking him in a more explicit manner. As one could see, there were only minor
differences between the two forms of media, however, the main thing in common is the clear
superiority of men over women, and that s something could be brought into the

Child Rearing Investigations
Assessment Four: Influences and Changes in Child Rearing Investigation
Primary Question: How have children s leisure time activities toys changed over the last 30 years?
There are a few obvious changes between today s leisure activities and activities from over thirty
years ago. In a short questionnaire given to a mother and a grandmother, there were differences, but
there were also similarities and parallels. As the sample size was so small, many of the answers could
be biased or generalised for the generations, and given the locations that the grandmother raised her
children, the answers will most likely vary to other answers given by other parents if asked in a

Gothic novels purport to revive old stories and beliefs, exploring personal, psychical encounters with

involves a beautiful innocent young woman who is held captive by an older, powerful, evil ... Show

There are three gothic like aspects to the novel. The first is the character of the General as gothic
villain, patriarch and usurper and the Abbey as his gothic residence; the second is the exploration of
the dead mother s bedroom; and the final incident involves Catherine s expulsion from the Abbey.
Both the latter incidents end in very ordinary, anti climactic ways, in contrast to gothic stories. The
narrator also contrasts other ordinary incidents, with how they might have developed in a gothic
novel; for example, Catherine s journey to
Bath is accomplished with suitable quietness and uneventful safety.
Neither robbers nor tempests befriend them, nor one lucky overturn to introduce them to the hero

Many commentators have concluded that Northanger Abbey is a parody of the Gothic genre. Whether
or not one agrees with this view depends on the definition of parody that one accepts. The Penguin

political, economic, and societal systems in the world are strongly influenced by the western

Laws for copyright, piracy, intellectual property somehow find the origins in the socio economical
system of our world.
In the following essay, we will try to explore the different characteristics of the worlds which may
engender the need for copyright. We will next explain what are piracy and intellectual property vis à
vis the notion of copyright.
Several characteristics of today s world and its business made copyright essentials for the course of
everyday activities.
First the materialism has been the main philosophy of most individuals. People are commonly judged
based on their material possession. The emphasis is thus put on what someone s own, its goods,
properties. The material benefit is of first importance, and it is the basis of world business. Thus, when
someone creates, produces or makes something of potential material benefit, he will definitely want to
protect it. It s clear that in such context copyright automatically becomes crucial.
The second point is the economy. Capitalism is the major economic system throughout the world.

a famous author, based on Saint hood. Dunstan s fascination with saints started when he was just a

Dempster has completed three miracles in Dunstan s mind such as bringing his brother, Willie, back to

of a tramp which caused him to turn his life around after their encounter. Finally, her third miracle was
her face appearing on the statue of a saint in the war when Dunstan was close to death. Next, Dunstan
thought of Mary Dempster as if she was his own mother. Dunstan says, Leola I wanted as a trophy of
success, but Mrs Dempster was beginning to fill my whole life, (Davies 24). Dunstan was constantly

Persuasive Essay On Anti Bullying
Anti Bullying
Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say sticks
and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me. This is totally false. In truth, words can
kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in
self harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be
taken. About twenty eight percent of student s ages 12 18 reported being bullied at school during the
school year according to the Indicators of School Crime and Safety report, by the Bureau of Justice
statistics. Across thirty nine states survey, 7.2 percent of students admit to not attending school
because they do not feel safe. The importance of bullying can t be undermined. Teachers and parents
must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and behaviors of bullying. This will
help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt. To successfully prevent bullying you
must be able to spot it. Parents and teachers need to watch for instances of bullying. A person who is
isolating themselves from a group doesn t necessarily categorize a person as a loner. That could be a
sign that they are being bullied. Just by noticing those warning signs and intervening can help the
situation and possibly allow the person being bullied to find comfort in confining you. What is a
bully? A bully is a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.
There are many types of bullying. There is verbal bullying when someone is saying or writing mean
things. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name calling, inappropriate sexual comments, and threatening
to cause self harm. Another form of bullying is social bullying. It involves hurting someone s
reputation or relationship. Social bullying includes spreading rumors about someone, telling other
children not to be friends with someone, and embarrassing someone in public. Then there is physical
bullying which involves hurting a person s body or possessions. Which includes hitting or kicking,
tripping, taking or breaking someone s things. Bullying can occur during or after school hours.

long term issues like drug addiction, mental illness, and alcoholism. People who suffer from addictive
disorders ruin their relationships with family, friends, and often lose their jobs. 6% of the American
population suffers from mental illness. When it comes to the homeless population, that number jumps

All The World s A Stage And All Men And Women
Shakespeare had said All the world s a stage and all men and women
are merely players. Or rather, Jaques from As You Like It did, but that s
besides the point. The point is that I was watching the Lego Movie. And oh
my god is it the best movie ever. What makes it the best movie ever? Not
only does it have a great message, it also actually inspired me to write this
blog post. The movie, starts out to be your regular run of the mill animated
comedy, and moves on to create a connection between the real human world
and the Lego universe. What the cute little kid Finn imagines with his toys,
translates into the actual movie we are watching, and the characters are
living. A movie within a movie Movie ception! Which led me to thinking,
maybe this bubble called life is nothing more than...a movie.
A movie that we act in, direct, produce, write, create an original soundtrack
of, so on...and finally view and review. So perhaps the point really was
what Shakespeare had said. For him, life was a seven act play. And so it
shall be for all you theatre lovers out there (I also speak to my own drama geek self). And for my blog
post point of view and that of every single
movie buff out there, life shall be a movie. Shakespeare said it, and now it s
my turn.
What is reality? How do we know that what we live in is real ? Life
sometimes seems nothing more than just a dream. I have had many
conversations with my friends where we spend a minute

Organic And Free Range Of Grass Fed Essay
Organic. Cage Free. Free Range. Grass Fed. Non GMO. These descriptors are used in grocery stores
across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers through their
purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any description, how do
consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food producers and their
governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg, and produce industry are
all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday consumer comes in contact with
these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely on them to help them make the
healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really denoting ethical sourcing, improved
health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The rise of organic farming in the United
States came about following the general push to return to a more natural way of life in the late 1960s
and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional farming methods that were used exclusively until
the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A major force behind this movement was science writer,
Rachel Carson who published Silent Spring in 1962 (History). In this work, she focused on the loss of
songbirds due to the widespread use of DDT and the otherwise indiscriminate use of chemical
pesticides, fertilizers, and weed killers (History). The label organics sprung from consumer pressure

Dns, A Domain Name System
2.1.2 DNS SPOOFING: DNS is a Domain Name System. DNS contains all IP addresses and name of
the websites in its database in the form of records called resource records and are placed in the
hierarchal manner. DNS spoofing is a similar type of MITMA when compared to ARP cache
poisoning. DNS spoofing is a technique used by hackers to provide false DNS information to the host
while accessing a website. When users try to gain access to a particular website, a request will be first
sent out the local DNS server for the IP address of the website which the user wants to access. Once it
receives the request the DNS server does a search in the database to find the particular IP address of
the website, once if identifies the ip address of the website it immediately send a response to the user
browser regarding the IP information.
FIGURE 2: DNS Request Query If the requested IP address is not found in the database of the DNS
server, it will then forward the request to a higher level DNS server in the hierarchy. It is due the
hierarchical nature of the DNS structure of the internet, DNS server need the ability to communicate
with each other in order to find the ip addresses of the websites requested by the users. It is reasonable
to expect the local DNS server to know the name mapping to the local intranet server. It is termed as

Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition Essay
Child Health, Safety and Nutrition
CDCG 110
5 8 2012
What did I learn from this course?
Health, safety and nutrition are three of the most important factors to consider when raising a child. In
other words, every child should be raised with proper nutrition, good health and safety as possible,
allowing him or her to grow with a great well being. Something that I ve learned about this class is
that in today s fast paced world where the child s safety and health issues are rapidly growing, more
than fifty sites online present health and safety guidelines for the public to consider. These websites
given to us has really opened up a door for me to look into my own life as well as my child s
development. Another thing I ve learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This class and those three things have taught me about balancing my food choices to keep me healthy
and to keep my sugars in check to keep me and my baby safe. I ve really appreciated the knowledge
from this textbook and through the websites on this matter. There are a lot more things I ve
learned through this course, but I really found that the certain things mentioned in the above page have
has gave me the knowledge I needed for my own health as well as my family s!
What did I already know that was reinforced in this work?
In the above paragraph I have gained the knowledge on how to balance me and my family s lifestyle. I
already knew we needed to be eating health and staying active. It is hard to do so in a busy world. But,
this course has definitely reinforced on how to stay healthy and fit and implement new things in my
life. This course has also reinforced just as you should get a physical annually, your child needs
regular well check ups. Something further that I have been able to balance and reinforce is getting in a
good habit is eating a variety of fruits and vegetables daily. Choosing whole grains as much as
possible over refined ones will give your child more nutrients and fiber. Make an effort to avoid foods
that are processed, high in sugar or high in saturated fat, all of which can increase risks for health
problems such as diabetes. Especially helped reinforce with my diabetes.

Essay On Women In The Great Gatsby
Throughout literature women are often displayed as idealized characters. Women in the eyes of society
are plagued with the stereotype of being kind, nurturing, and tender individuals while men are
established as ambitious, assertive, and tough. However, when the time comes for women to possess
the qualities of men and men of women, a turnaround of events can occur. Women were the
individuals that then shape the males into their ending personna. Shakespeare s Macbeth, George
Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four, and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby demonstrated the reversal
of gender roles through portraying women as the instigator of the male character s ultimate demise. In
particular, Macbeth s women are some of the most famous females ... Show more content on

Throughout the novel, the reader is constantly wondering who exactly Gatsby is and the mystery as to
how he made his riches. It is later learned that he gained his money dishonestly. Gatsby did this with
the purpose of gaining the woman he loved since she wanted to live a wealthy life. Daisy s greed
drove Gatsby into having the ambition of becoming rich. Daisy had even chosen Tom Buchanan to
marry to live a wealthy life regardless of how poorly treated she was by him. She picked him over
Gatsby since Gatsby was not rich at the time they met. She even exaggerates her greed by killing
Myrtle and uses Tom to blame Gatsby to keep her life of wealth. Nick says They were careless people,
Tom and Daisy they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their
vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess
they had made, (Fitzgerald 136 145). Gatsby admits to the murder she committed and in the end is
killed by Winston, the husband of Myrtle. Their strive for money, specifically Daisy, lead to the death
of Gatsby, a man that simply wanted to be with his love by any means necessary, yet fails in the

Classical Music and Its Affect On Society
How Classical Music Has Affected Society
Music and society have always been intimately related. Music reflects and creates social conditions.
Music s interconnection with society can be seen throughout history. Every known culture on the earth
has it. Music seems to be one of the basic actions of humans. The influence of it on society can be
clearly seen through ancient to modern history. The strongest effect given off from a genre of music
would have to be classical music. The genre s ability to increase one s ability to learn has helped
generations achieve greatness, but the more importantly classical music can even help grow life. It can
also both harm and heal people both physically and mentally. The power of music to affect ... Show

Melody and rhythm are the two essential components of music that work in very different ways:
melody is the essence that boosts creative thinking, while rhythm synchronizes these emotions with
the vital patterns. Human beings have since long been tied to musical tempos. The rhythms in the
heart beat, walking, jumping, speaking, chewing, and breathing all represent important patterns in our
life. It is this particular musical rhythm that increases the level of serotonin produced in the brain,
therefore enhancing critical thinking. What makes this music so valuable is the rigorous mathematical
order it offers.
We all know how greatly music affects our feelings and energy levels! Without even thinking about it,
we use music to create desired moods to make us happy, to enjoy movement and dance, to energize, to
bring back powerful memories, to help us relax and focus. As mentioned, Classical music had three
intent abilities: to teach, grow and heal.

Ethical Use Of The World Wide Web
Ethical Use of the World Wide Web For or Against Hacktivism, A Fierce Tug of War On November
28, 2010, a statement from the White House said, We condemn in the strongest terms the unauthorized
disclosure of classified documents and sensitive national security information ( Statement by the Press
Secretary ). Meanwhile, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and American ambassadors around the
world were contacting foreign officials to alert them to the unexpected disclosure (Shane and Lehren).
Earlier in 2010, a cache of a quarter million confidential American diplomatic cables was posted on
WikiLeaks, an organization devoted to revealing secret government documents. These documents
provide an unprecedented look at backroom bargaining by embassies around the world, brutally
candid views of foreign leaders and frank assessments of nuclear and terrorist threats (Shane and
Lehren). The disclosure sent shudders through the diplomatic establishment, and strained relationships
between multiple countries, influencing international affairs in unpredictable ways (Shane and
Lehren). On the evening of November 13, 2015, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks took place in
Paris and its northern suburb, Saint Denis. Starting from 21:20 CET, three suicide bombers struck near
the Stade de France in Saint Denis, followed by suicide bombings and spree shootings at cafés,
restaurants and a music venue in central Paris (de la Hamaide). The terrorists killed 130 people and

Narrative Essay On Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine once declared, The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. I understand
exactly what Paine expresses here. People admire items in life if they are forced to strive to obtain
them. If these items come to them too easily, they will not appreciate them as much. Consequently,
when obstacles or conflicts arrive, people must learn to use their skills and resources to resolve them.
One major conflict in my life began the first week of summer before my freshman year of high school.
I was practicing at my competitive cheerleading gym, when my life was unexpectedly turned upside
down. While performing a back walkover back handspring, there was a loud pop as I hyperextended
my right elbow, tearing both my muscle and my ulnar collateral ligament. I promptly sunk to my
knees and began sobbing. The next thing I knew, I was laboriously working through physical therapy
at NASA Bone Joint Specialist instead of relaxing at the beach. This unexpected injury would
manifest to be a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I met with Dr. O Neill and was asked to complete five push ups to test whether or not my ligament had
properly healed. Unfortunately, when he noticed that I was unable to complete the push ups, he knew
the ligament would require Tommy John surgery. After a substantial amount of research, my family
and I agreed that surgery was my only option. Even with the surgery, I would never be able to throw a
ball normally again without additional years of rehabilitation. Dr. O Neill s plan was to remove a
ligament out of my right wrist and insert it into my elbow, giving my elbow a brand new ligament.
Because he was to operate on my wrist in addition to my elbow, I would be unable to move my hand
or fingers for months. Losing the use of my dominant hand was a major obstacle, especially with my
first year of high school right around the

Examples Of Irony In The Plague
The main irony in The Plague is the way Camus treats freedom throughout the book. The people of
Oran become prisoners of the plague and the whole city becomes quarantined by the Prefect when
death tolls hit 30 people a day. It can be questioned whether they were really free before the plague,
considering the way they lived out their lives from day to day. Every day the populace would wake up
work and then gamble in the evenings and a lot of people in Oran take their loved ones for granted.
Only when the plague becomes really bad and people start to die or are ultimately separated by
quarantine from their friends, lovers and families do they realize how they should have loved and
cared for them.
In the very beginning of the epidemic, the citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Camus was an atheist and didn t believe that death, suffering, and human existence has any real
rational meaning. Since Camus didn t believe in God or the devil, Camus saw humans as mortals,
living under a crazy and completely absurd death sentence. However, Camus did believe that people
are capable of giving their lives meaning hence when the people of Oran were starting to give up, they
banded together and worked to end the death and suffering of those that have been infected or affected
by the plague. Although Camus was an atheist, in The Plague religion can be found in the book
coming from the Jesuit priest, Father Paneloux. He preached that this was God s way of separating the
good from the bad, saying that this only happened because God s compassion for the evil doing in the
town ran out and it was time for the people there to realize the real meaning behind their lives.
(Malcolm 26) Paneloux basically believed that the plague was for the good of the townspeople.
Although this is here, Father Paneloux is the only character with religious beliefs. Other main
characters such as Dr. Rieux, John Tarrou and Raymond Rambert lack those religious beliefs and
believe that there is no logical reason behind the cause of the

Compare And Contrast The Han And Roman Empires
Each empire has its own unique strengths and differences that aid in their emergence, growth, and
decline. While there are many differences between empires, there are fundamental similarities that are
common throughout every society. The Han, Mauryan, and Roman Empires all have different
strengths and differences, but are fundamentally the empires are similar in their primary doctrines.
Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynasty was founded by Liu Bang.
Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power
concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and
Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and
better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade
enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron
casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself. The
leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of wealthy clans
who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free farmers. This
separation of classes caused the dynasty to destruct itself due to the fundamental weakness brought on
by a lack of unity within the nation. In 324 B.C.E., Chandragupta Maurya created the Mauryan
Empire. Like the Han, the

  • 2. Kent State Massacres Kasem Ahmed The Fight of the Century On March 8, 1971 eight ordinary citizens broke into an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania, a town just outside Philadelphia, took hundreds of secret files, and shared them with the public. In doing so, they uncovered the FBI s vast and illegal regime of spying and intimidation of Americans exercising their First Amendment rights. Although the FBI claimed there were just a few things missing, about 1,000 files were removed and leaked to the press. This started the most extensive expose and investigation of the FBI and the largest man/woman hunts the FBI ever conducted. A little over four decades later, during the spring and summer of 2013, an American citizen drew international attention after deliberately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the documents were released, NBC reporter Carl Stern filed several Freedom of Information Act requests and a lawsuit against the Justice Department and the FBI.[7] Ultimately, Carl Stern obtained the documents and it was revealed to the American public that COINTELPRO was a series of counterintelligence operations aimed at surveying, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting domestic political organizations. [8] This was the first major impact of the burglary, it led to the media gaining unrestricted access to FBI records. This was huge because now the media, government officials and the American public weren t dependent on the FBI s testimony about their programs, rather everyone could get a hands on, unbiased look into the intelligence operations that the FBI was ... • 3. One Less Lonely Girl Play Analysis On Friday, November 23, at 7 p.m., I went to see the DHS Factor, with a friend, at the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall. I chose to attend this performance because I was interested in seeing different people from our school perform in front of an audience. It was nice to see the wide variety of talent that is found at our school. A nice touch to the production was having a student, teacher, and former student be the judges for the night. The final student act in the production of the DHS Factor was a performance by seniors, Will Wyman and Iain Smith. Unlike the rest of the contestants, they had a more satirical approach to their performance. They chose to sing the song, One Less Lonely Girl by Justin Bieber. It was clear from the very beginning of their act, that they were not trying to hit the notes, just simply trying to be obnoxious and funny. This is similar to the plays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One act in particular stood out as a parallel to the acts performed by the King and the Duke in the story. Both of these groups cared about money, in the King and Duke s case, or winning over the audience, in the case of the Will and Iain s act. In other words, they wanted popularity over realness. Nobody seemed to care in both circumstances that the performances were meant as a serious representation of the talent show. Will and Iain s act included singing and dancing, but that was only the surface of their talent . Their true talent was making the audience laugh. For the King and the Duke, their audience was glad to have a performance that made them laugh as well. It was different than just a reenactment of a Shakespearean play, which eventually led to what the King and Duke wanted most, money. These two groups showed that you can do more than what the people are expecting and that you can use your humorous personality for the greater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast A fairytale is a fictional fantasy fable that passes through generations of children as source of interest to them. Though used for the intent of entertainment, fairytales often indirectly advocate a moral or message to readers (whom are usually children), in hopes that they will grow up to apply these ethics and lead a righteous life. This criteria, however, often originates from the occurrence of a magical transformation; it is this paranormality that introduces the characters of the story to a side of life far from what they have grown to know and learn to adapt to the dramatic amend in their life. This is evident in the characters in world renowned tales such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the story progresses, Eric does come to know of Ariel s true identity as a mermaid, nevertheless he still loves her; she doesn t need to change herself for it wasn t what she is that he fell in love with; but, it is who she is. The classic tale of The Little Mermaid is gives strong evidence as to how the basis of a fairytale essentially lies within the occurrence of a magical transformation. The importance of magical transformation is also present in the enchanting saga of Aladdin. Aladdin is an illicit, street rat whom is, perhaps, the most wanted criminal in Agrabah by the federals. Due to his meagre circumstances, Aladdin relies on robbery as his means of survival. After narrowly escaping the wrath of the police, he comes across Jasmine, a disguised runaway princess. Jasmine is the headstrong young woman and the princess of Agrabah whom after being caged within the palace and isolated from anything and anyone beyond it her entire life, runs away to find happiness. Aladdin, whom initially believes that Jasmine is merely a commoner, is quick to fall in love with her, though later her identity is exposed and she returns back to the palace. Aladdin eventually is caught and imprisoned when Jafar, a menace acting as the royal vizier for the king (Jasmine s father), disguised as an old man, tricks Aladdin into retrieving a lamp for him. • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of Rob Green s Speech Afraid All Over I went to TEDxUSD on Saturday, November 5, which is a TED talks that is independently organized by the University of South Dakota. Multiple people spoke at the event including Rob Green, Casey Finnicum, Jeff Gould and Lindsey Meyers. This event was hosted in Aalfs Auditorium on the University of South Dakota campus. The purpose of the speeches was not only to entertain the audience, but also to inform the audience of topics important to the speaker. They also used their speeches to persuade the audience. He accomplished this by informing us of three ways he got over his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He used basic transitions to connect each part to each other. I thought that the use of simple transitions was very effective because it kept the atmosphere of storytelling alive. Green used a call to action as his conclusion to say why you should not let fears get the best of you. He wanted to make us ponder about how small our world would be if we let fears build up walls in our life. I enjoyed Rob Green s delivery. He used a story telling atmosphere to his speech and made the atmosphere feel like we were two old friends talking around the fireplace. His delivery was solid and I did not feel that any part was distracting. The tone of voice and rate were very conversational and he used his hands to aid in the story. He did not use his hands too little or too much. Rob walked around the circle telling his story and moved aside to show us his pictures. TEDxUSD did not have any podiums to use, but Rob used his whole circle of carpet to speak. The lighting was just a spotlight on Rob which made it easy for the audience to see him. There was no question and answer session to his speech. My favorite part of his delivery was the use of pictures and a video in his presentation. He used them to aid in giving us the full picture of his experiences. Overall, I thought Rob Green did a fantastic job of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Designing A Curriculum Using The Understanding By Design... The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives. Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning. Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing instruction. Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding and make informed decisions about instruction. After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I have gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I need to first assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is important to learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states, in relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a variety of areas. Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do. The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding ... • 7. Quetiapine Research Papers Astrocyte dependent protective effect of quetiapine on GABAergic neuron is associated with the prevention of anxiety like behaviors in aging mice after long term treatment Authors Abstract Previous studies have demonstrated that quetiapine (QTP) may have neuroprotective properties; however, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we identified a novel mechanism by which QTP increased the synthesis of ATP in astrocytes and protected GABAergic neurons from aging induced death. In 12 month old mice, QTP significantly improved cell number of GABAegic neurons in the cortex and ameliorated anxiety like behaviors compared to control group. Complimentary in vitrostudies showed that QTP had no direct effect on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2009). Although QTP is thought to interact with neurotransmitter receptors, the drug has also been known to significantly affect other systems in central nerve system (CNS). Our previous studies have shown that QTP may be a neuroprotectant (Bai et al. 2002; Wang et al. 2005). In a bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (CCAO) mouse model, we found QTP to significantly attenuate spatial memory impairment and neuronal cell loss in hippocampus (Yan et al. 2007a). Although the critical neuroprotective and neurotrophic role of QTP treatment has been well established at the experimental level, very little is known about the downstream mechanisms responsible for the beneficial influences of the drug. A growing body of literature has shown that a deficit in the GABAergic system is involved in a variety of psychological disorders, including schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression (Lydiard 2003; Costa et al. 2004). The decrease of GABAergic signaling was considered to be one of the most robust pathologies observed in schizophrenia (Lodge et al. 2009). In addition, glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), which is an enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of glutamate to GABA in interneurons, was markedly reduced in schizophrenia patients (Hashimoto et al. 2003). Dysfunction of GABAergic neurons has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt, Dicey, age 13, James, age 10, Maybeth, age 9, and Sammy, age 6, are abandoned by their mother in the middle of Connecticut in a parking lot. They have to find their way to Aunt Cilla s house because she is their only relative Dicey knows. With very little money and food, the Tillermans walk all the way to Bridgeport to find out that Aunt Cilla is dead and their Cousin Eunice is the only one there. [Maybeth said] What s wrong? Dicey almost laughed. What s right? is what she wanted to answer, but she didn t speak. Never mind the way forward [on the road], you couldn t get without money and they had none, (p.94). This verifies that one symbol is the long road and it symbolizes all four children s hardships, their hopelessness, and their poverty because nothing right is going on in their lives. On the long road, you couldn t get money to buy food. That shows poverty. On the road, they have to walk a long way forward while they are hungry and tired. Now that the children are stopping and just giving up, it shows that they have no hope in themselves. If they had hope, Dicey could ve kept walking and find people to give her a job so she can earn money. For now, they are hopeless with no money or food on the long road. Another symbol is the sailboat and it symbolizes the hope the children need, and Dicey s want to be accepted and taken in by her grandmother. Film, Born Into Brothels In the film, Born into Brothels (2004), British filmmakers Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman setout to present a perspective from the children of sex workers living in Red Light District of Sonagachi, Calcutta. This film, however incidental, demonstrate single narratives on the basis of morality, sexuality, and preconceived notions about the third world. Their attempt at filming an impartial ethnographic film that spoke of the true nature of life as a child in the Red Light District of Calcutta failed from their Western gaze and lack of insight about the community of Sonagachi to contextualize how the Red Light District and the poverty surrounding are a result of globalization. Acknowledging the before that Briski and Kauffman could never understand about the Red Light District because of their limited Western understanding about the third world, would ve resulted in a more inclusive look into the subjective perspectives of the children. Instead, using footage and still pictures of the dirty allies, children covered in what seems to be oil, naked children chained like animals in a zoo, etc, as an aesthetic (lens) used to reproduce hegemonic narratives about the third world and objectively reflect reality. • 11. The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth, most eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration, or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress. Two main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments. According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the cause is learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory explaining the choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G. Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in subjects with AMD to a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects with ten or more large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was revealed between the subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect method for such a study because of multiple light scattering properties of the tissue. They also ... • 12. Analysis Of The Poem A Sorrowful Woman Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin 39). This short story begins with the famous opening, once upon a time, which foreshadows that the story line will be similar to a fairy tale. It raises expectations for the story that all will be magical and end happily. A typical modern day fairy tale is that of a distressed character who overcomes an obstacle, falls in love with prince charming, and they ride off into the sunset; living happily ever after never to be heard from again. Godwin however, puts an unexpected twist on A Sorrowful Woman . This short story is a tale about what can happen when everyday roles take over our identity. Traditionally, women were stay at home who tended to the children, house chores, and duties when needed. Purposely, Godwin doesn t give the characters names. This is important because it implies that the characters are not people, but they represent their role within the family. Godwin mocks a fairy tale by having the characters actions contradict expectations. This is shown when the mother is literally sick at the sight of her family (Godwin 39). Also when the child pretends to be a tiger and scratches the mother, scaring her off so she didn t want to be alone with the boy anymore. The husband doesn t save the wife from her state, he simply understands it and finds other solutions. He hires a girl to help care for the boy, but the mother resents this. The mother wishes to be happy with her roles but she cannot accept them, and despises the perfect girl for doing what she is unable to (Godwin 40 41 ). The mother leads a life where her duties and societal expectations are met, but by doing this her happiness is lost. Once upon a time implies that she thought her life as a wife and mother would be perfect. The wife even attempts to find new roles to replace the ones she holds which do not suit her, She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them (Godwin 42). ... However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive character of Quebec. Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the nation together. They could not agree whether to prohibit slavery in territories that had not become states yet. After the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the Southern states had a major conflict with Lincoln becoming president and seven slave states succeeded from the Union and made the Confederate States of America. A two ton hunk of metal flying down the freeway at speeds excess of seventy miles an hour carries much potential for catastrophe. Dangerous driving habits result in the death of thousands of people each year; however, by taking steps to educate young drivers on dangerous habits behind the wheel; countless lives could be saved. However, by taking a closer look at the modes of government, it is clear that many elements of democracy today were not present in society. Democracy is viewed very differently today than it was looked at in Greece, with the meaning of equality somehow changing over thousands of years. The ways that people participated and were represented in government has also changed, and does not show many aspects of today s democracy. Ancient Greece was fairly democratic because of the connections that ancient Greek government has to governments around the globe today, the participation of the people, as well as the role women played. Sometimes antibiotics can only stop the bacteria from multiplying (make it stagnate), and other times it causes the bacteria to multiply even more. These three results depend on antibiotic concentration, bacterial mutation, and bacterial genetic exchange. One big factor in the resistance bacteria show towards antibiotics is antibiotic concentration. Usually, if large amounts of an antibiotic are attacking a bacteria it will stop the multiplication process and even kill it off, but if there is small amounts of antibiotic it will allow the bacteria to continue to spread. The third and final factor in bacterial resistance to antibiotics is bacterial genetic exchange. It is very common for bacteria to share genetic info between cells even if the bacteria are not the same species. When this happens, genes and DNA get mixed into different species allowing more mutations against the antibiotics. The only way for scientists to know if the bacteria is going to resist their antibiotic is for them to perform tests. Even if the antibiotic proves to work in their experiment, scientists can never tell when the bacteria is going to mutate and possibly gain new defenses that can deactivate their antibiotic. Dunstan says, Leola I wanted as a trophy of success, but Mrs Dempster was beginning to fill my whole life, (Davies 24). Dunstan was constantly with Mrs. Dempster, helping and playing with Paul. Dunstan was constantly sneaking off to visit her and suffered through the torment and teasing of his school peers because he was always by her side. Even the day his brother died, he immediately ran to her which led to her bringing him back to life. A scared teenage boy at the time, Dunstan and the town were searching for Mrs. Dempster after she went missing, I was afraid and did not know what I feared, which is the worst kind of fear, (Davies 41). Finally, Mrs. Dempster has caused Dunstan to live a life of guilt. Dunstan felt as if he was responsible for her state even though Percy was the one to throw the snowball. • 37. Persuasive Essay On Anti Bullying Anti Bullying Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me. This is totally false. In truth, words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in self harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be taken. About twenty eight percent of student s ages 12 18 reported being bullied at school during the school year according to the Indicators of School Crime and Safety report, by the Bureau of Justice statistics. Across thirty nine states survey, 7.2 percent of students admit to not attending school because they do not feel safe. The importance of bullying can t be undermined. Teachers and parents must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and behaviors of bullying. This will help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt. To successfully prevent bullying you must be able to spot it. Parents and teachers need to watch for instances of bullying. A person who is isolating themselves from a group doesn t necessarily categorize a person as a loner. That could be a sign that they are being bullied. Just by noticing those warning signs and intervening can help the situation and possibly allow the person being bullied to find comfort in confining you. What is a bully? A bully is a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker. There are many types of bullying. There is verbal bullying when someone is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name calling, inappropriate sexual comments, and threatening to cause self harm. Another form of bullying is social bullying. It involves hurting someone s reputation or relationship. Social bullying includes spreading rumors about someone, telling other children not to be friends with someone, and embarrassing someone in public. Then there is physical bullying which involves hurting a person s body or possessions. Which includes hitting or kicking, tripping, taking or breaking someone s things. Bullying can occur during or after school hours. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Or rather, Jaques from As You Like It did, but that s besides the point. The point is that I was watching the Lego Movie. And oh my god is it the best movie ever. What makes it the best movie ever? Not only does it have a great message, it also actually inspired me to write this blog post. The movie, starts out to be your regular run of the mill animated comedy, and moves on to create a connection between the real human world and the Lego universe. What the cute little kid Finn imagines with his toys, translates into the actual movie we are watching, and the characters are living. A movie within a movie Movie ception! Which led me to thinking, maybe this bubble called life is nothing more than...a movie. These descriptors are used in grocery stores across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers through their purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any description, how do consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food producers and their governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg, and produce industry are all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday consumer comes in contact with these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely on them to help them make the healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really denoting ethical sourcing, improved health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The rise of organic farming in the United States came about following the general push to return to a more natural way of life in the late 1960s and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional farming methods that were used exclusively until the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A major force behind this movement was science writer, Rachel Carson who published Silent Spring in 1962 (History). People admire items in life if they are forced to strive to obtain them. If these items come to them too easily, they will not appreciate them as much. Consequently, when obstacles or conflicts arrive, people must learn to use their skills and resources to resolve them. One major conflict in my life began the first week of summer before my freshman year of high school. I was practicing at my competitive cheerleading gym, when my life was unexpectedly turned upside down. While performing a back walkover back handspring, there was a loud pop as I hyperextended my right elbow, tearing both my muscle and my ulnar collateral ligament. The people of Oran become prisoners of the plague and the whole city becomes quarantined by the Prefect when death tolls hit 30 people a day. It can be questioned whether they were really free before the plague, considering the way they lived out their lives from day to day. Every day the populace would wake up work and then gamble in the evenings and a lot of people in Oran take their loved ones for granted. Although Camus was an atheist, in The Plague religion can be found in the book coming from the Jesuit priest, Father Paneloux. He preached that this was God s way of separating the good from the bad, saying that this only happened because God s compassion for the evil doing in the town ran out and it was time for the people there to realize the real meaning behind their lives. While there are many differences between empires, there are fundamental similarities that are common throughout every society. The Han, Mauryan, and Roman Empires all have different strengths and differences, but are fundamentally the empires are similar in their primary doctrines. Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynasty was founded by Liu Bang. Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself. The leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of wealthy clans who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free farmers. This separation of classes caused the dynasty to destruct itself due to the fundamental weakness brought on by a lack of unity within the nation.
