The Historical, Political And Political Role Of The...
The original intent of the Eurovision Song Contest, through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU),
was to unite countries after the Second World War, through music. As one of the first and now longest
running mass media light entertainment programmes to broadcast globally , to what extent has it
successfully met its aims? Consider this question by using one appropriate case study from the show
and situating it within a historical and political context.
The historical, political and social role of the Eurovision Song Contest
Essay question /argument
In this essay, I shall examine the historical, political and social position of the Eurovision Song
Contest. It is a well known fact that the song contest is one of the most famous television show
contests in Europe and internationally. What impact did Eurovision have on the post World War II
days?
Throughout the essay, I will aim to discuss the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest and its
effects as well as the milestones of the show in the light of their impact. The first show I will introduce
is the year 1974 when ABBA won the contest and the Portuguese song became the anthem of the
revolution against their government (Morais, 2007). The second show I will analyze is the year 1998
when the Israeli Dana International became the first transgender winner of the ESC with her
unforgettable song DIVA . She has become a gay icon and, both religiously and politically, has
become one of the great figures of the

Pope Sixtus II, who took over after St. Stephen in 257, is best known for partaking in one of the most
famous pieces of art in Western history, known as Sistine Madonna. Sixtus was having trouble with
some African and Asian churches regarding Baptism. He received letters from St. Dionysus of
Alexandria, which advised him to remain easygoing and try to disregard the other practices that were

The Impact of Charlemagne Upon Europe Essay
Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, reigned during a time of much turmoil and upheaval in Europe
during middle ages. Charlemagne s background and family history contributed much to his rise to
power. The triumphs of his past lineage prepared him to take on the task of governing the Frankish
Empire, and defending it from invaders. Charlemagne accomplished much during his supremacy. He
not only brought education back into medieval Europe, but also invented an efficient way to govern
his people. His conquests against the many adversaries of the Holy Roman Empire expanded his
empire across the majority of Europe. His conquests also formed strong ties between the Catholic
Church and the State. Charlemagne s drive to convert Europe s primitive ... Show more content on

Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of the
Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect from the
Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe (Abrams 186),
and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson, Charlemagne. By this time,
the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards considering that they had
complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father, Pepin III, more commonly
known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis 54). During his reign, Pepin
defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which strengthened the relationship
between the church and the state that later would contribute to Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy
Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the now much larger Frankish empire
between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54). Carolmen died in 771 and left
Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The era when the mayors ruled the
Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe
(Jenkins 123). From the passing of both his Father and brother, Charlemagne continued into his
kingship over the Frankish Empire.

who do things the same and together primarily because there are so many different types of people

can do their job not as the stereotypical way of bad but in helping out the common good in people,
such as tracking down child predators and turning them into the police. Even though this may be seen

The Realm Of Collegiate Athletics
The realm of collegiate athletics is made up of participants that hail from all walks of life. In many
instances the athletic programs that make up the university can be considered the most diverse group
on campus. The will to win largely attracts participants from every conceivable ethnic and
demographic background. The diversity and racial composition of athletic programs can provide
opportunities for athletes to learn about people who are different than themselves, help improve
interracial understanding, and help reduce prejudice among groups. Although diversity among student
athletes is a favorable goal, it is important that the coaches, athletic counselors, or anyone working
with student athletes have practices and procedures in place to immerse athletes within the culture of
collegiate athletics. The ability to succeed will be determined by the athlete and the programs ability
to function within a multilevel system that includes knowledge of the NCAA rules and regulations,
university policies, athletic department standards, and team dynamics (Fletcher, 2003). While there are
many opportunities for student athletes to gain a cross racial understanding from participating in team
sports such as basketball, football, and track and field there can be differences in racial diversity
among sports. For instance, white college athletes comprise 68.3% of the national populations in
intercollegiate athletics at all levels (NCAA Division I, II, and III) (NCAA, 2014). In the

Drought In The Mississippi River Delta Wetlands
Wetlands are extremely valuable to society. Wetlands can decrease flooding, remove pollutants from
water, recharge groundwater, protect shorelines, provide habitat for wildlife, and serve important
recreational and cultural functions. The Mississippi River Delta ecosystems alone provide at least $12
47 billion in benefits to people every year. If wetlands are lost, the cost of replacing them can be
extremely expensive, if at all possible. Lost wetlands can result in a city having to invest more money
in drinking water treatment or higher costs to citizens for flood insurance. Wetlands act as natural

Anglo Saxon Identity Essay
Who were the Anglo Saxons?
The Anglo Saxons can loosely be defined as the Germanic tribes who settled in Britain at the start of
the 5th century with the fall of the Roman Empire. The importance of these settlers and their identity
in the long term development of medieval Europe is emphasised by John Hines who asserts that the
breakdown of the Roman Imperial Order in Western Europe saw the emergence of entirely
new...identities . When considering Anglo Saxon identity, two main concepts must be addressed;
firstly the nature of the Adventus Saxonum and the consequent impact of this upon the native Britons.
Whilst there is much debate, evidence strongly supports that the arrival of the Anglo Saxons to Britain
was lengthy process which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aforementioned work by Bede offers one of the earliest written accounts of the first arrival of the
Anglo Saxons but as with his assertions regarding the origins of the settlers, Bede fails to provide an
accurate picture of the pace and nature of the Anglo Saxon migration. In the first instance, Bede
chronicles the story of Hengist and Horsa, whereby King Vortigern invites Saxons into Britain to help
defend against the Pictish raids in the north, but then turn on the Britons and begin to seize land for
themselves the first commanders are said to have been the two brothers Hengist and Horsa . When
translated from Saxon languages Hengist and Horsa translate back to stallion and mare , pointing
towards the story being more a folk tale than an actual historic event. Further to this, Bede based much
of his work off Gildas who wrote the earliest insular text available On the Ruin of Britain in around
540, and also accounted for the legendary brothers they sealed its doom by inviting in among them
(like wolves into the sheep fold), the fierce and impious Saxons, a race hateful to both God and men,
to repel the invasions of the northern nations . As such, Bede inherits much of Gildas bias, which is
displayed clearly through his scathing language and comparison of the Saxons to wolves . The
suggestion that the arrival of the Anglo Saxons to Britain was an event, rather than an extended
process aligns closely with Gildas agenda to link

The Pros And Cons Of Separation Between Church And The States
The wall of separation between the church and the state has led to many political and social issues
within the country. Ever since Thomas Jefferson penned the phrase in his letter, it will always come up
when limitations have been pushed too far. It has become a sensitive matter to touch on, especially
when it comes to financial affairs. The issue of whether or not tax exemption benefits should be
retained among religious institutions continues to be widely debated. Churches, however they are
perceived to be by individuals, have a strong influence in the society. Aside from providing spiritual
guidance, their outreach programs and community services have given hope for the less fortunate and

You can choose between a portable immersion unit and a full sized container blender. The portable
immersion unit is designed for individual needs and is portable enough to carry to the office for on the
spot use. To make more than one glass of smoothie at a time you will need a container blender. These
electric blenders sit on your counter top. They are used to make large batches of smoothies. They have
a lot of power and can even blend ice and frozen fruits.
When choosing your smoothie blender you should consider how often you will be using it. Different
blenders run for different periods of time, if you are planning to use the blender for longer periods of
time then you need to get a heavy duty blender that will be able to handle the load. Usually the run
time of a blender depends on the RPM (Rotations per Minute) of the motor. A good rule of thumb is
that the lower the RPM the longer the run time though this is not always the case.
Blenders run at a very high speed so it is important to get a blender that is sturdy. If you leave your
blender unattended it should not walk across the counter because of the vibrations from its motor.
Your blender should also come with a lid that fits snugly. The lid should not pop off and cause a
mishap if you are not there supervising. You should get a blender that has a tight lid and a heave base,
such a blender will be much safer to

Essay On The Nutcracker
In modern times, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky s ballet, The Nutcracker, is a Christmas classic. With
memorable songs and beautiful instrumentation, many cannot imagine Christmas without it. Dance
companies perform the ballet year after year with spectators coming to watch annually. There have
even been LGBT, hip hop, and Jewish adaptations to the popular ballet (Begley). Thousands of
musicians and dancers all over the world perform it to add to the excitement and cheer of the holidays.
The original story of The Nutcracker started with ETA. Hoffmann s 1816 tale The Nutcracker and the
Mouse King that had been adapted by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 about a girl who befriends a
nutcracker on Christmas Eve and battles against the evil Mouse King (Schwarm). In 1892, the director
of the Russian Imperial Theatre, following the success of Tchaikovsky s Sleeping Beauty, devised the
ballet, setting ito Tchaikovsky s music with choreography by Marius Petipa, and premiering it a week
before Christmas (Burton Hill). Tchaikovsky first accepted the task to write the music from the
director of Moscow s Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky (History of The Nutcracker). He began to
work while on an American tour for the opening of Carnegie Hall. His tour took him through Paris,
where he discovered a new instrument: the celesta. It had a clear, bell like tone that was perfectly

Stereotyping In Los Vendidos By Luis Valdez
Are you really looking at what your seeing? In Luis Valdez s short play Los Vendidos, it is clear that
there was a stereotyping issue as well as symbolism throughout his play. I have analyzed his symbolic
demonstrations on how Mexicans are labeled and how stereotyping affects the way Americans view
Mexicans. In an article by an anonymous writer titled Los Vendidos , Luis Valdez: Using stereotypes
to end racism, there was a quote stating, Theater as a weapon , Valdez used theater as a weapon to
attempt to highlight latino stereotypes and their effects on society on those stereotypes. Valdez was the
second born out of 10 brothers and sisters. At the age of six he began working in the fields with his
parents. Valdez began writing plays to express his lifestyle and his family s life style when he was
growing up. When he attending school he noticed that in all the school book, only whites and
Europeans were mentioned in the United States. Although Hispanics are well ... Show more content on

Essay on Running Record Analysis
Every day teachers are required to make decisions before, during and after teaching. Some of these
decisions will seem small and insignificant and others will have far reaching consequences. All of the
assessment undertaken and subsequent decisions made can potentially enhance teaching and influence
student learning outcomes for the better (Brady amp; Kennedy, 2009). There are numerous things to
be assessed and various methods for assessing. One example of this is the assessment of reading. A
Running Record is one method of assessing a child s reading (Hill, 2012). The running record allows
the teacher to note a child s reading behaviour as he or she reads from a chosen text. It examines both

In this instance it seems to contribute to James being able to read almost the entire text correctly. By
the time James reaches the fifth line of the text he seems to have worked out he can predict the
language of the text using his memory for the text and meaning information he ascertains from the
illustrations (Hill, 2012).
At line 16 James makes an error reading The little bear instead of The teddy bear . Given the repetitive
and predictable nature of the preceding text it may be concluded that James is using meaning cues
from the illustrations to work out the sentence will be about a bear coupled with what he already
knows about the text; that little was used in all previous sentences to describe each object. James has
worked out that this text uses both images and print to convey meaning (Holliday, 2008).
James appears to be using limited cross checking behaviours. Self correction behaviour is nil, at least
in this instance. Evidence shows he is using mostly meaning and visual cues and not drawing on
structural cues. As a result of not utilising all the sources of information afforded by the text his
understanding and comprehension of the text is quite limited and there is no evidence he has really
connected with the text. In recent years there has been much research on reading

Octavian Senate
Around the year 753 B.C.E the city of Rome was discovered along the shores of the Tiber River by the
mythical characters Romulus and Remus. Throughout the estimated 12 centuries of existence, Roman
civilisation shifted from a monarch to a classical republic and then to an increasingly autocratic
empire. During this time emperor Octavian or otherwise known as Augustus, ruled from the year 44
B.C.E until 14 A.D. Octavian s power was considered unassailable and during 27 B.C.E the Roman
Senate formally granted him overarching power and the new title Augustus , effectively marking the
end of the Roman Republic.
The early life of Roman Emperor Gaius Octavius Thurinus began in Rome on September 23, 63 BCE

The Triumvirate was eventually torn apart under the competing ambitions of its members: Ledipus
was driven into exile and stripped of his position and Antony committed suicide following his defeat
at the Battle of Actium by Octavian in 31 B.C.E. (Adkins and Adkins, 2004; Butler, 2007 Cavendish,
2011). After the demise of the Second Triumvirate, Augustus restored the outward façade of the free
Republic, with governmental power vested in the Roman Senate, the executive magistrates, and the
legislative assemblies (Cavendish, 2011). In reality, however, he retained his autocratic power over the
Republic as a military dictator. By law, Augustus held a collection of powers granted to him for life by
the Senate, including supreme military command, and those of tribune and censor (Adkins and
Adkins, 2004; Butler, 2007; Cavendish, 2011). It took several years for Augustus to develop the
framework within which a formally republican state could be led under by his sole rule. He rejected
monarchical titles, and instead called himself Princeps Civitatis ( First Citizen of the State ). The
resulting constitutional framework became known as the Principate, the first phase of the Roman

The Causes of Hyperthyroidism Essay
The thyroid gland is found in the front of the neck and produces two main hormones. The hormones
are called thuroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). Together these hormones regulate the body s
metabolism by increasing energy use in cells, regulate growth and development, help to maintain body
temperature and aid in oxygen consumption. These two hormones are regulated by hormones
produced by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The hypothalamus senses changes in body s
metabolic rate and releases a hormone known as thyropin releasing hormone (TRH). This hormone
then flows through connecting vessels to the pituitary gland which signals it to release another
hormone. This hormone is known as thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH then makes ... Show

The main cause of hyperthyroidism Graves disease which affects quite a few people in the general
population. This disease is characterized as an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body makes
antibodies known as thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin that bind and over activate the production of
thyroid hormones [3]. So in essence the antibody mimics the thyroid stimulating hormone and when
the negative feedback loop is in affect the antibody still binds to the thyroid and T3 and T4 are over
produced [2].
Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid often called adenomas. These adenomas are quite common
affecting around seven percent our countries population. These lumps on the thyroid can become very
active and thus produce a large amount of thyroid hormone. In some cases hyperthyroidism is brought
on by consuming too much medication that treats an underactive thyroid.
There are many causes of hyperthyroidism, but the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are the same no
matter what causes the over expression of thyroid hormones. The main symptoms of hyperthyroidism
are fatigue, shortness of breath, weak muscles, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and heart palpitations.
Interestingly, even with an increase in appetite the patient will have weight loss.
There are many factors that may increase the risk of acquiring hyperthyroidism. One of the most
important factors is that women are at a much higher risk of developing hyperthyroidism than men,

Limitations Of UN Peacekeeping
4. LIMITATIONS OF PEACEKEEPING
Limitations of UN Peacekeeping have been exposed time and again. The alterations caused by these
limitations have now been incorporated in the operational structure. The influence of a UN
Peacekeeping Operation, too, depends on extent of involvement of various actors, whose conduct
depends greatly on assessment of strategic interests. So, the characterization of United Nations as an
international authority which could issue directives to enforce its mandate would be an overstatement
as previous missions have demonstrated. There have been calls for overhauling the UN Peacekeeping
structure. A High level independent panel on peace operations was appointed by Ban Ki moon, former
Secretary General of United Nations in October, 2014 to review the state of UN Peacekeeping
Operations. A major concern shared by all panel members which was also earmarked as an essential
shift in the future process was the emphasis laid on striving towards a political solution rather than an
attempt to diffuse the crisis by military means alone. Political instability has been at the roots of many
conflicts, which the UN has sought to defuse by deployment of peacekeeping missions. Most missions
failed to address the larger issue of restoring stability, on account of the fact that military interventions
change the dynamics of regional security forever. Also, removal of a regime could lead to further
deterioration of the conflict as political vacuum created by such removal and facilitating the creation
of an interim proxy regime has challenges of its own. Taking out governments/rulers is perceived as
the most effective immediate response to any call for intervention. The real challenge for international
community arises after a successful throw over, as it pushes the country towards a political crisis. It is
this situation that world/regional powers are keen on exploiting by appointing friendly rulers, with an
eye on strategic interests, which is why a concerted political solution should be the primary objective
of the international community to avoid complications. U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki
Haley recently hit out at the UN peacekeeping operations, calling for a clear demarcation between

How College Athletics Are Run
Since the 1950 s the NCAA has promoted an idea that student athletes that are given a full
scholarships are receiving a free ride for their education. In this article Ramogi Huma, and Ellen
Staurowsky highlight controversial issues about how college athletics are run. In the article it is noted
that 45% of football, and 52% of basketball players do not graduate. The two programs that revenue
the most money for an athletic program are Men s Football, and Men s Basketball. The article debates
that the NCAA uses the money that athletes in men s football and basketball generate from their play
to assist in funding other programs in the athletic department. While athletes are generating millions
of dollars for their universities, the athlete spends on average of $3,222 in out of pocket expenses.
While attending these universities these athletes live at or under the poverty line. If these athletes were
allowed access to the fair market like the professional athletes, the average FBS football and
basketball player would be worth approximately $121,048 and $265,027 respectively (not counting
individual commercial endorsement deals) (Huma). The NCAA maintains that these athletes are
amateurs and to keep their eligibility to participate in college athletics they can receive zero
compensation for their talent. By maintaining this view point the NCAA allows athletes to only

Ode To A Nightingale Critical Analysis
Where does one go when he or she feels the need to disconnect from their reality ? People often seek
to escape their reality physically, but also mentally by using imagination. Imagination allows one to
disconnect from the real world problems that may cause fear, despairs, or isolation. In John Keats
poem, Ode to a Nightingale discusses the idea of mortality and death throughout the poem by escaping
reality. By looking at escapism, one can see the poet s struggle with physical and mental state, which
most readers don t see; this is important because it shows symbolism through the nightingale. In Ode
to a Nightingale Keats writes, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains/ My sense, as though of
hemlock I had drunk, comparing his heart ache to the drowsy numbness pains because his pain makes
him lack physical sensation. By drinking the hemlock it is known he wants to escape and forget the
heartache that does not make him feel by drinking the poison. The poets urge to forget is shown he
drinks the poison One minute past, and Lethe wards had sunk , which refers to the river of
forgetfulness. By drinking the poison and drowning in Lethe wards it symbolizes his urge to drown in
urge to feel by feeling numb to the pain. It shows how to does not seek to face reality with his sorrow.
Moreover, Keat arises the question of his mental and physical state by envying the nightingale by
stating Tis not through envy of thy happy lot, / But being too happy in

This study used a 2 x 2 x 2 design to examine the effects of warning labels, bleeping, and gender on
viewers perceptions and enjoyment of a docu drama. We also examined the individual difference
variable of verbal aggressiveness to test for possible interactions. Overall, the warning labels increased
enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on
either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the
program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Lastly,

Another airing of the same program self censored (or quot;bleeped quot;) the profanity. Therefore,
although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered
norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive
norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels
and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the
current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring
on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings
and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will
consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations.

warnings and ratings by the networks, combined with the increase in parental concern about
problematic media content (Cantor, Stutman amp; Duran, 1996), has created an environment in which
research into this issue has become more prevalent. A majority of these studies is grounded in
reactance theory (Brehm, 1981). Reactance

The organization affected by the change is the target of effective change communication. Many
organizations establish a communication plan to alert the internal staff and external stakeholders of a
pending change to operations. Fox begins a technology change at the senior executive level with the
development of the business strategy and the funding future actions. As the project commences, a
development team containing members of engineering, operations, and production meeting to develop
the project specification and assure the technology meets the requirements. The production and
operations organization communicate with their staff to ensure the conceptual change will meet each
organization s goals. Eventually, operations and production agents of change are enlisted to begin
selling the pending change to the members of the staff by developing operating procedures.
Eventually, the implementation of the technology is complete, and the training and testing by

Theory X, Theory Y
Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social
psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and
Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of
Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in
reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and
Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their
behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views.
Theory X presumes that average employees dislike work, are lazy, dislike responsibility, and must be

Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how
these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management
attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they
expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory,
companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the
human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled,
self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete.
McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization.
Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much
money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change
and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no
evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who
modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is
part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this

Essay On Wound Drainage
The orthopedic literature has a long history of investigating the use of postoperative wound drains
(Cobb, 1990). In total joint arthroplasty, wound drains were associated with increased rates of
transfusion (Hallstrom and Steele, 1992; Quinn et al., 2015) but not a decrease in the rate of wound
complications. A systematic review of the orthopedic literature comparing closed suction drainage
systems with no drainage system for all types of elective and emergency orthopedic surgery found that
there is insufficient evidence from randomized trials to support the routine use of wound drains in

They found that the group without drains developed epidural fluid collection by MRI detection at a
much higher rate of 89% compared to the drain group at 36% (Mirzai et al., 2006). Their data
suggested that drains could help clear excess fluid from the surgical site and adjacent spaces.
However, they did not observe a difference in clinical outcomes between groups. A meta analysis of
seven studies of postoperative suction drain use after posterior spine surgery included 2,098 patients
and found that drains did not influence healing rates and or infection (Andrew Glennie et al., 2015).
The relationship between surgical drains and hematoma prevention could not be established. Similarly,
another recent meta analysis failed to demonstrate an association between surgical site drains and
decreased odds of hematoma and infection (Waly et al., 2015). While the benefit of surgical site drains
in the lumbar spine remains to be demonstrated, the benefit of surgical site drains in the cervical spine
remains an unanswered question.
The study of surgical site drains in the posterior cervical spine is limited. Payhs et al. suggested
surgical site drains in the posterior cervical spine in combination with alcohol foam or vancomycin

the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and cohesive representation of
the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics genre. Along with this new

Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about
the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important
to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re
interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as
main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among
the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new
notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not,
has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional
notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a
practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of
communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All
relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles
in the communication system, a passive role

Leadership And Commitment Of Senior Management Essay
Leadership and Commitment
Senior management leadership and commitment forms a key element of this model. A successful OSH
risk management strategy must be driven by senior Management. This is the level of management
mandated to make critical decisions on policy development of an organization. Risk management is
most effective when it is integrated into the initial stages of business and strategic planning. In
Australia the public service legislation places an emphasis on high levels of professional leadership
and expertise; and performance management, and accountability in devolved management framework
(Commonwealth of Australia, 2005). In a study done to establish safety standards in Borabu District in
Kenya it was found that 36% of head teachers indicated that Board of Governors were uncooperative
in improving safety standards. (Migiro, 2012). Training institutions like other organizations must be
led by senior management that is committed to safety.
2.3.1.2 Active Involvement of all workers
Active involvement of all workers in the workplace ensures success of any OHS management
program, and helps to develop a safety culture in the workplace. Open communication between
management and workers support OSH activities. Employees provide critical OSH information as
they are often in the immediate work area and identify hazards. They can provide valuable advice
about risks and possible solutions (Commonwealth of Australia, 2005). In Kenya the OSH Policy

The Factors Affecting The Work Environment On Health...
Literature Review In the recent years, there has been viable evidence that shows that other factors in
the work environment may also be strong push factors for retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012,
pg.445). The factors that contribute to forcing workers to leave the public sector include: workload
and staff shortages are contributing to burnout, high absenteeism, stress, depression, low morale, and
de motivation (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). It is also shown that poor working
conditions also contributes to preventing staff morale and motivation and it also contributes directly to
recruitment and retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg445). According to Burns, Bradley and
Weiner (2012), one strategy being used to alleviate health worker shortages and to improve access and
quality of health services is task shifting, or the delegation of tasks that would traditionally fall within
the scope of practice of doctors or nurses to other health who have undergone shorter periods of
training (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). In so by implementing task shifting, the work
load that all nurses have to handle on a daily basis is split up with easier duties falling on other health
professionals with less experience. Also another strategy of combating nursing retention is by offering
nonfinancial incentives instead of financial incentives which can help to motivate workers (Burns,

Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of the Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect from the Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe (Abrams 186), and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson, Charlemagne. By this time, the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards considering that they had complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father, Pepin III, more commonly known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis 54). During his reign, Pepin defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which strengthened the relationship between the church and the state that later would contribute to Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the now much larger Frankish empire between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54). Carolmen died in 771 and left Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The era when the mayors ruled the Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe (Jenkins 123). The aforementioned work by Bede offers one of the earliest written accounts of the first arrival of the Anglo Saxons but as with his assertions regarding the origins of the settlers, Bede fails to provide an accurate picture of the pace and nature of the Anglo Saxon migration. In the first instance, Bede chronicles the story of Hengist and Horsa, whereby King Vortigern invites Saxons into Britain to help defend against the Pictish raids in the north, but then turn on the Britons and begin to seize land for themselves the first commanders are said to have been the two brothers Hengist and Horsa . When translated from Saxon languages Hengist and Horsa translate back to stallion and mare , pointing towards the story being more a folk tale than an actual historic event. Further to this, Bede based much of his work off Gildas who wrote the earliest insular text available On the Ruin of Britain in around 540, and also accounted for the legendary brothers they sealed its doom by inviting in among them (like wolves into the sheep fold), the fierce and impious Saxons, a race hateful to both God and men, to repel the invasions of the northern nations . As such, Bede inherits much of Gildas bias, which is displayed clearly through his scathing language and comparison of the Saxons to wolves . • 25. The Causes of Hyperthyroidism Essay The thyroid gland is found in the front of the neck and produces two main hormones. The hormones are called thuroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). Together these hormones regulate the body s metabolism by increasing energy use in cells, regulate growth and development, help to maintain body temperature and aid in oxygen consumption. These two hormones are regulated by hormones produced by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The hypothalamus senses changes in body s metabolic rate and releases a hormone known as thyropin releasing hormone (TRH). This hormone then flows through connecting vessels to the pituitary gland which signals it to release another hormone. This hormone is known as thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH then makes ... This disease is characterized as an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body makes antibodies known as thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin that bind and over activate the production of thyroid hormones [3]. So in essence the antibody mimics the thyroid stimulating hormone and when the negative feedback loop is in affect the antibody still binds to the thyroid and T3 and T4 are over produced [2]. Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid often called adenomas. These adenomas are quite common affecting around seven percent our countries population. These lumps on the thyroid can become very active and thus produce a large amount of thyroid hormone. In some cases hyperthyroidism is brought on by consuming too much medication that treats an underactive thyroid. There are many causes of hyperthyroidism, but the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are the same no matter what causes the over expression of thyroid hormones. The main symptoms of hyperthyroidism are fatigue, shortness of breath, weak muscles, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and heart palpitations. • 26. Limitations Of UN Peacekeeping 4. LIMITATIONS OF PEACEKEEPING Limitations of UN Peacekeeping have been exposed time and again. The alterations caused by these limitations have now been incorporated in the operational structure. The influence of a UN Peacekeeping Operation, too, depends on extent of involvement of various actors, whose conduct depends greatly on assessment of strategic interests. So, the characterization of United Nations as an international authority which could issue directives to enforce its mandate would be an overstatement as previous missions have demonstrated. There have been calls for overhauling the UN Peacekeeping structure. A High level independent panel on peace operations was appointed by Ban Ki moon, former Secretary General of United Nations in October, 2014 to review the state of UN Peacekeeping Operations. A major concern shared by all panel members which was also earmarked as an essential shift in the future process was the emphasis laid on striving towards a political solution rather than an attempt to diffuse the crisis by military means alone. Political instability has been at the roots of many conflicts, which the UN has sought to defuse by deployment of peacekeeping missions. Most missions failed to address the larger issue of restoring stability, on account of the fact that military interventions change the dynamics of regional security forever. Also, removal of a regime could lead to further deterioration of the conflict as political vacuum created by such removal and facilitating the creation of an interim proxy regime has challenges of its own. Taking out governments/rulers is perceived as the most effective immediate response to any call for intervention. The real challenge for international community arises after a successful throw over, as it pushes the country towards a political crisis. It is this situation that world/regional powers are keen on exploiting by appointing friendly rulers, with an eye on strategic interests, which is why a concerted political solution should be the primary objective of the international community to avoid complications. U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley recently hit out at the UN peacekeeping operations, calling for a clear demarcation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. How College Athletics Are Run Since the 1950 s the NCAA has promoted an idea that student athletes that are given a full scholarships are receiving a free ride for their education. In this article Ramogi Huma, and Ellen Staurowsky highlight controversial issues about how college athletics are run. In the article it is noted that 45% of football, and 52% of basketball players do not graduate. The two programs that revenue the most money for an athletic program are Men s Football, and Men s Basketball. The article debates that the NCAA uses the money that athletes in men s football and basketball generate from their play to assist in funding other programs in the athletic department. While athletes are generating millions of dollars for their universities, the athlete spends on average of $3,222 in out of pocket expenses. While attending these universities these athletes live at or under the poverty line. If these athletes were allowed access to the fair market like the professional athletes, the average FBS football and basketball player would be worth approximately $121,048 and $265,027 respectively (not counting individual commercial endorsement deals) (Huma). The NCAA maintains that these athletes are amateurs and to keep their eligibility to participate in college athletics they can receive zero compensation for their talent. By maintaining this view point the NCAA allows athletes to only receive grant in aid s which reward the athlete with free tuition, and room and board and can receive no other ... • 28. Ode To A Nightingale Critical Analysis Where does one go when he or she feels the need to disconnect from their reality ? People often seek to escape their reality physically, but also mentally by using imagination. Imagination allows one to disconnect from the real world problems that may cause fear, despairs, or isolation. In John Keats poem, Ode to a Nightingale discusses the idea of mortality and death throughout the poem by escaping reality. By looking at escapism, one can see the poet s struggle with physical and mental state, which most readers don t see; this is important because it shows symbolism through the nightingale. In Ode to a Nightingale Keats writes, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains/ My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk, comparing his heart ache to the drowsy numbness pains because his pain makes him lack physical sensation. By drinking the hemlock it is known he wants to escape and forget the heartache that does not make him feel by drinking the poison. The poets urge to forget is shown he drinks the poison One minute past, and Lethe wards had sunk , which refers to the river of forgetfulness. By drinking the poison and drowning in Lethe wards it symbolizes his urge to drown in urge to feel by feeling numb to the pain. It shows how to does not seek to face reality with his sorrow. Therefore, the current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. Douglas McGregor is a social psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views. Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory, companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled, self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete. McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization. Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. • 33. Essay On Wound Drainage The orthopedic literature has a long history of investigating the use of postoperative wound drains (Cobb, 1990). In total joint arthroplasty, wound drains were associated with increased rates of transfusion (Hallstrom and Steele, 1992; Quinn et al., 2015) but not a decrease in the rate of wound complications. A systematic review of the orthopedic literature comparing closed suction drainage systems with no drainage system for all types of elective and emergency orthopedic surgery found that there is insufficient evidence from randomized trials to support the routine use of wound drains in orthopedic surgery (Parker et al., 2007). A meta analysis of seven studies of postoperative suction drain use after posterior spine surgery included 2,098 patients and found that drains did not influence healing rates and or infection (Andrew Glennie et al., 2015). The relationship between surgical drains and hematoma prevention could not be established. Live Electronics Essay 1.1 Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for performance of live electronics which will simplify the compositional workflow, easy the performance and ensure the preservation. The main idea is to extend Common Western Music Notation(CWMN) to the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and cohesive representation of the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics genre. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A successful OSH risk management strategy must be driven by senior Management. This is the level of management mandated to make critical decisions on policy development of an organization. Literature Review In the recent years, there has been viable evidence that shows that other factors in the work environment may also be strong push factors for retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). The factors that contribute to forcing workers to leave the public sector include: workload and staff shortages are contributing to burnout, high absenteeism, stress, depression, low morale, and de motivation (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). It is also shown that poor working conditions also contributes to preventing staff morale and motivation and it also contributes directly to recruitment and retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg445). According to Burns, Bradley and Weiner (2012), one strategy being used to alleviate health worker shortages and to improve access and quality of health services is task shifting, or the delegation of tasks that would traditionally fall within the scope of practice of doctors or nurses to other health who have undergone shorter periods of training (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). In so by implementing task shifting, the work load that all nurses have to handle on a daily basis is split up with easier duties falling on other health professionals with less experience.
