Electrical Activities in the Human Body
Introduction
Biopotential signals are electrical activities of the human body systems which are measured by
potential fluctuations between points in living cells, tissues and organisms .In medicine field,
certain biopotential signals are important as they are considering diagnosis and patient monitoring.
These signals represent the activity of particular organs such as the heart, brain, muscles and many
more. With the help of specialised electrodes, biopotential signals transduce low noise and artefact
free signals to the organ or the body. A basic biopotential amplifier consists of an instrumentation
amplifier. The amplifier should have several characteristics such as high amplification, input
impedance and the ability to reject any electrical interference. These characteristics are needed to
measure biopotentials signals. Other component can be added to the circuit in order to improve
the signals; filter can be added to reduce electric interference, electric isolation and defibrillation
shock protection. The electrical activity can originate from different tissues and organs sources.
There are different sources of biopotential signals such as EEG, ECG, EMG; they are all based on
the same principles however the signals will have smaller amplitudes. Electroencephalogram (EEG)
records the electric activity of the

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the
meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely
exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World
War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In
the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the
meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box.
Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be
or not to be speech. Both of these works of literature seem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death.
Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To
die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To
him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as
nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But
that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus
conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares
Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is
nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how
a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to
believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism.
Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge
impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet
does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play
allows the readers to see his

Occupy Wall Street
In 2008, the United States of America (US) experienced a financial crisis which affected the rest of
the world. Investment banks and Wall Street crashed. It left a good portion of US citizens in debt,
unemployed, homeless, etc. As a result, Occupy Wall Street became a movement to demonstrate
that the people have had enough and started protesting and voicing their opinions. In terms of
globalization, the development of Occupy movements have altered the notion of social movements
to which it is not just about highlighting and fighting for causes, rather it desires to place the power
back into the hands of the people. The term movements has become a catchall definition about the
mobilization of people from short term causes to longterm... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The American economy was plummeting and taking the world with it. After a few years, the
citizens realize what caused the crisis and how it happened which created the OWS movement
and the population frustration with the capitalist system. In addition, one must note that those
who caused the financial crisis avoided punishment. They were the ones who lead the economy
into failure and, now, promising that they are the only ones who can fix it. In Inside Job, it
demonstrated the consequences of the crisis and financial innovation, through the educational
system. It means that those who consulted with financial firms and companies were professors
or on the board of directors of ivy league schools, who teach their economic ideologies onto the
future generation.7 Ergo, this is creating a vicious economic cycle that needs to change. Occupy
Wall Street: Origin, Purpose, Values and Goals As a result of the 2008 US financial crisis, the
OWS was formed within the period of the US recovery process to fight the oppression of the
current economic powers. From various sources, OWS seemed to have gained inspiration from
Arab Spring. The Arab Spring is a wave of protests for political change. The Americans realized
that they desired a change of economic system because the capitalist system was creating social
inequality.8 Still, the movement of OWS is an occupy movement that needs to be defined and

Analysis Of Translation Nation By Hector Tovar
The book Translation Nation by Hector Tovar begins by telling his own story, and how
migrating to Los Angeles from Guatemala changed his parents and shaped his. Not only that,
but how iconic Che Guevara was to his family, even comparing him to god. He continued by
showing the similarities in Los Angeles and New York, how the Latino immigrants were
following in the steps of those from around Europe, assimilating and creating a community of
their own. Then he began talking about the border between Tijuana, Mexico, and California.
Describing the emptiness of the beach that day, and the fact that many people from all over
Mexico were wandering the streets of Tijuana, waiting for nightfall to cross the border. Also
describing the tactics border patrol use to find the immigrants before they cross. Even including
interviews with people waiting to cross, some knowing the tactics of border patrol and others
clueless, following el coyote y el pollero. In addition, Tovar went undercover, pretending to be an
immigrant looking for work, and experienced first hand the process. Throughout the book, he
includes the story of many people who he met along the way. Their stories helped write the
book, and give a more personal meaning to it. The first group described in the book would be all
those trying to cross the border. Tovar met many people who were trying to cross the border or
had successfully crossed or got caught. All those who cross the border face exploitation, mediocre

Over Fishing Research Paper
Commercial fishing has a great affect on the marine life for many reasons. Those reasons include
species of marine life going extinct, or over population. Some marine life are going extinct from
overfishing because as scientists said fish are able to produce only a limited quantity of fish over
time this problem cannot only affect the fishbut it can affect the entire ecosystem in the ocean.
Some species of fish are also going extinct from bycatch. Bycatch is when other species of fish or
marine life is captured in the nets with the target fish that is supposed to be caught. It is estimated
by scientists that 25 percent of the commercial fishingindustries around the world harvest is
discarded bycatch. Some species of marine life cannot only go extinct but it can also overpopulate.
Certain types of marine life can go extinct because their predators are going also going extinct. This
issue arose in the early 1900s when commercial fishing industries expanded their fishing fleets....

As the population increases the fishing industry must meet the demand for more fish. While
catching the fish they use nets that are 260 feet in length which catch about 100 tons of fish daily.
The size of the net makes it greater to overfish because this net is as long as a football field which
catches tons of fish. Another cause of overfishing is bycatch, because these unwanted fish are being
caught in the nets with the type of fish that is being targeted.
Overfishing and bycatch can lead to many problems and one of the main problems of overfishing
and bycatch is the species of fish or marine life going extinct. The consequences of this problem is
some of fish and marine life going extinct. When it happens it can affect many things such as not
providing certain animals food. It can also lead to overpopulation in some species because there

General Aviation And A Business Jet
General Aviation Value Analysis The Comparison This General Aviation Value Analysis will
provide a comparison between commercial aviation and a business jet. To help with this
comparison a short distance and a long distance trip will be used. Both trips will be a business trip
in nature and each include myself and three additional colleagues. The business trip is set for July
12th. The departure location is Seattle, WA to Boise, ID (short trip) and Seattle, WA to Houston,
TX (long trip). The analysis can then be used by the business to compare and contrast the best
solution.
Commercial Air Travel
The commercial airline selected for the business trip is Alaska Airlines. The airline is the ideal
carrier because Seattle is Alaska Airline s hub, making it the best choice for both trips. It s
important to point put today that commercial airlines face an overwhelming high volume of
travelers. With more and more passengers traveling via commercial airlines, one of challenges
business travelers face today is the longer wait times through the TSA security check point, delayed
flights, overbooked flights, and even flight cancellations. This in return can cost a business a deal,
increase business travel time, and add to the travel cost. For many business travelers time is money.

Critical Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
Critical theory , in terms of literature, can be defined as a form of criticism through the close
reading of a text and the application of knowledge acquired from the study of the humanities. The
multiple readings mentioned in the question refers to the different schools of literary criticism for
example, structuralism, feminist theory, new historicism/cultural materialism, ecocriticism and
postcolonial criticism. It is true to say that Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud can be
read and interpreted in many different ways, especially when both the original and revised versions
of the poem are taken into account. In my opinion, the most interesting criticism that can be applied
to this poem is structuralism, which I will be analysing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Accessed: 22 November 2015), Barthes references factors of structuralism, such as parallels in
plot, which change the way we interpret I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud . What Barthes calls
binary opposites are showcased in the first and fourth stanzas respectively. The first stanza
creates a lonely and lost feeling whereas there is a sense of jubilance in the fourth stanza as the
bliss of solitude is expressed. The feeling of loneliness is lamented in the opening stanza whereas
it is described as joyous in the last stanza, which I believe can be reduced to a dyad of happy/sad;
the next question is which side of the dichotomy the poem verges on. In my opinion, the images
expressed in the poem as well as the language used (such as sprightly and jocund ) mean that I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud sides with the idea of happiness, mainly due to the scenic
descriptions and the warm ending to the poem, and then my heart with pleasure fills / and

Lancastrian Exceptionalism In Shakespeare s Second Neutralogy
Lancastrian Exceptionalism: Crisis and the Crown in Shakespeare s Second Tetralogy Sovereign,
argues Carl Schmitt, is he who decides on the exception (5). Far from the only definition of
sovereignty available to us, this narrow understanding, he continues, is a borderline case and
not...routine. Indeed, the exception is to be understood to refer to a general concept in the theory
of the state, and not merely to a construct applied to any emergency decree or state of siege. Thus,
because [t]he exception...is not codified in the existing legal order, it must necessarily be
characterized as a case of extreme peril, a danger to the existence of the state (6). Conversely, in
non crisis situations, Schmitt implies, we should expect the law rather than the will of the head of
state to clearly delineate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way, the head of state does not normally have sovereign power to dictate his will over his
own laws, precisely because the lack of emergency prevents him from acting autocratically. If we
apply Schmitt s theory to late mediaeval English history, we see that he is largely correct, at
least insofar as the royal succession is concerned. Consider the century of stable succession in
England from Edward I s accession in 1274 to Richard II s in 1377, for example. With each king
s demise, there was no question as to who would inherit the crown. Even in the case of Edward II
s violent deposal and murder not simply a single, tumultuous event but rather a gradual erosion of
the king s authority in the years before his overthrow Schmitt s theory holds true. As there was no
immediate crisis of authority, there was no opportunity for a sovereign to step forward and seize
upon the exception, and the young Edward III came to the throne almost automatically, as expected
and indeed as the law dictated. In contrast, the Lancastrian kings who followed Richard II Henry
IV, and his son Henry

The Importance Of Toxic Leadership
The Corps of the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) has been around since the formation of the
Continental Army in 1775. The basic responsibility of the NCO was to fill gaps in the lines and
keep soldiers quiet on mission while leading (Perkioniemi, 2009). Currently, the responsibilities of
the NCO focus on soldier welfare and accomplishing the mission (NCO Creed). Toxic leadershipis a
serious concern for the military, and it is undermining the reputation of the NCO Corps. What is
toxic leadership, how can it be addressed, and what will happen to the Corps if it is allowed to
continue?
Toxic leadership as defined by Wilson (2014) is a combination of self centered attitudes,
motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on subordinates, the organization, and
mission performance . NCOs, just as civilians, range from poor leaders to excellent leaders; but
when does poor leadership become toxic leadership and what causes this toxic leadership? Not
every soldier is born to lead. Some soldiers are bad decision makers, poor time managers, or just
unable to inspire confidence in their fellow soldiers. There is nothing wrong with being a
follower if you are a competent individual who can perform the given tasks. A NCO who cannot
step up and lead is not a toxic leader, they are a bad leader. With education and training NCOs with
poor leaderships skills develop into competent leaders.
Toxic leadership is a result of narcissistic leaders, individuals who have an

Comparing Cinderella And Donkeyskin
The protagonists in both stories of Cinderella and Donkeyskin are perhaps a vivid example of a
character who is lost. In both stories, the girls are bound by one reason or another, whether it
consist of her father, or two sisters and a godmother who have no care for her fate. Both stories
portray her as helpless and equally unwilling to rebel against other characters, perhaps out of fear
or her personality alone. Instead, she essentially beats them out in a more passive yet effective way.
However throughout both these stories, it is clear that she does not have the wealth or luxury of
doing this alone, hence where other characters take on that role.
These characters are possibly abstract, or perhaps visions/voices from the thoughts of another
character, such as Cinderella when the prince carries away the step sisters one by one, but the
birds offer a piece of advice, telling the prince of a poem that explains that he has chosen the
wrong girl. When reading this line, that repeats itself as he confuses the other step sister for
Cinderella, I wondered if these were just images or lines within his head instead of real birds
talking as the fairytale world may suggest. This way of thinking may suggest that the prince knows

My Senior Art Therapy Capstone Class
My senior art therapy capstone class gave me the tools not only to understand my personal art
making process, but the benefits of artistic creation for other individuals as well. Through this
final project, I was able to therapeutically process a traumatic event in my life and turn something
negative into a positive light. Process based art therapy highlights the educational and
transformative properties of art making and natural creation. My personal style is continuously
evolving, but it is often based in collage work or drawing figures with pencil on paper. My
artistic style highlights a sense of control and desire to work with traditional mediums. I ve
always worked with pencil and paper or collage because of the ease of access to materials. There
were always pencils and printer paper or empty journals for me to draw in no matter where I
was. Additionally, I loved to draw people and create my own characters. I draw people because it
brings an emotional aspect to my art that makes the drawing seem less static. When drawing
different faces, I can create depth and feeling into their eyes that makes the 2 dimensional
character seem real. One artist who has always inspired my style is Alphonse Mucha. Mucha s
decorative art featured a variety of women with flowing hair and long billowing dresses. The
women in his pieces commanded a sense of power with their brightly colored backgrounds and all
knowing faces (1). I d never seen art that depicted women in such a way, not

How Electoral Systems Shape Election Results
How Electoral Systems Shape Election Results:
The Case of the 2015 Federal Election in Canada
The 2015 Canadian Federal Election, which saw Justin Trudeau become the new Prime Minister,
brought in the highest ever number of voters in Canadian history. Despite the high confidence of
the Conservative party to win this election, many factors contributed to their defeat. Chief among
these factors, which is the focus of this paper, pertains to the type of electoral system employed in
Canada: the first past the post (FPTP) or single member plurality. This paper presents an analysis of
the outcome of the 2015 election that is grounded in a discussion of how different electoral systems
produce the particular structures that directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This FPTP system has also been said to lead to small parties being under represented in election
outcomes, which may misleadingly underestimate the popularity of their views than is actually the
case (Donley, 2003). Moreover, because the percentage of seats is not in proportion to the MPs
share of votes in their ridings, the common sentiment among voters is that their vote is essentially
wasted. The issue of disproportionality has been used as a basis to propose electoral reform in
Canada. The alternatives to Canada s current FPTP electoral system include, but are not limited to,
proportional representation (PR) and the alternative vote system.
In PR systems, seats are distributed on a nationwide or regional basis. Parties victories stem from
their proportion of the vote in multi member constituencies (Donley, 2003). Advocates of the PR
system point to the distorted preferences of voters in a single member plurality system and thus the
fairness of having a legislature more reflective of the partisan distribution of votes; in essence, each
vote should bear equal weight, they argue (Donley, 2003). The typical rebuttal to this argument
proposed by opponents of PR is that the executive stability brought forth by artificial legislative
majorities is a more important consideration, and that PR is likely to produce more coalition
governments (Cairns, 1968).
Another alternative to the FPTP system is the alternative vote system, whereby voters rank
candidates on

Analysis Of Hajime Isayama s Novel Attack On Titan
Graphic artist Hajime Isayama s best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a
walled community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids Titans that consume
humans (Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13 year old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist,
who pledges his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren s noble dedication
is fueled by the multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk
factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for
an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types
of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and
new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as
well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal
experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy.
The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to
developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and
developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr.
Grisha Jäger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as
a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Subsequently, the diathesis

place. I have talked about the security risks and how the bank can ensure that their company is fully
secure and how they can certify the protection of their customers.
I researched about the safeguards and the different types of methods that can be put in place to
ensure security. The last section explores what contingency plans are for damage limitations on the
event of a breach.
Overview
The organisation I have chosen is Lloyds Bank. According to (Wikipedia, 2015), Lloyds Bank is a
British retail bank with branches across England and Wales. It has traditionally been considered
one of the Big Four clearing banks .

Economic Justice Vs Distributive Justice Essay
An average American employee must work for an entire year before he or she earns what the
average American CEO earns in one day (Rezvani, Pirouz 6). The United States GINI coefficient,
a measure of income inequality, sits at 0.590 one of the highest marks in the entire developed
world (4). A majority of wealth sits in the hands of less than one percent of the country and those
lucky enough to fall under this percentage are catered to by politicians in search of reelection. That
said, it is easy for one to wonder whether the We the People mantra has been replaced with a mantra
of We the Corporations (10). Clearly, economic injustices transcend economic issues and affect
more than a citizen s bank account.

In the most general sense, distributive justice refers to justice in the allocation of resources while
commutative justice refers to justice in acts of exchange. Distributive economic justice requires
that every individual should have the moderate income needed for the basic necessities while
commutative economic justice requires that the price of commodities be set at an agreed upon
standard of equity (Macpherson 7). Minimum wage serves as a tool for distributive economic
justice as it ensures that citizens have the means for basic sustenance while the free market system
serves as a tool for commutative economic justice as its grants largely unrestricted access for both
consumers and producers. To date, most of the research regarding economic justice has supported
distributive theories because the main requirement for commutative economic justice, equality of
access, is limited by uncontrollable forces like geography, race, and gender, which can all prevent
access to economic systems (Armour

Participation In Democratic Political Participation
The question why nonprofit organizations exist can be answered in various forms, depending on
which disciplines and orientations one has adopted. In political theory, for instance, nonprofit
exists because of its partnership with the government sector in financing a variety of public
services. The political scientists view both existences in relations to providing opportunities for
civic participation in the pluralistic and political system of a heterogeneous society (Wikipedia,
2017). In order to respond to the above question, we first and foremost defined democratic political
participation. The democratic political participation is a means by which a person contributes to a
political process by making his or her opinion and beliefs known (Wikipedia, 2017). In addition, it
originates from the freedom to speak out, to assemble, and to associate (Boris, 2017). In assessing
the role of nonprofit in democratic political participation, Elizabeth Clemens considers nonprofit
organizations as an entity for building relationships that holds communities together and provides
opportunities for civic participation (Otto Dicke, 2015). Obviously, nonprofit organizations are
renowned for thriving and successful democracies. Essentially, they assist to build the networks of
trust and reciprocity, the social capital that allows democratic societies to function effectively
(Putnam 1993; Walzer 1991). Citizens, on the other hand, participate in democratic governance by

Internal Security Threat Regarding Employees
Part (i) Threat 1 a)Title: Internal Threats Employee threats b)Description of security threatAn
internal threat concerning employees is a wide ranging issue as it can encompass various
situations. The primary issue stems from an authorized, nontechnical user or a system that can
utilize the system without creating a red flag. (Peltier, 187). c)Justification for inclusion with
emphasis on risk and potential damageThe internal threat is a primary issue as employees,
statically, is the cause of security issues. The information available to the employees can commit
various types of criminal acts from fraud, to insider trading, to breaking international laws. There
can also be issues with disgruntled employees, potentially if the employee is only contracted or
temporary. It is a common practice in large companies, especially international companies, to
outsource and contract work. This can create issues with personnel if a contract is ended in an
unexpected way. There is also an inherent temptation with the information available, especially
considering various white collar crimes. d)Organizational responseAn organizational response
would be to create policies to deter internal attacks, which can be done in multiple ways. The first
method would require creating a training program to educate employees and discourage such
behavior. The second would be to create procedures outlining their different levels of access that
employees can have depending on their job

Proposed Cities For Expansion Teams
With growing interest in a sport comes more fans in new places. In an effort to grow their
franchise, the NHL has been known to add expansion teams. The league started in 1942 with just
six teams known as The Original Six and has expanded to 30 teams since then with the last
teams being added in 2000 (Various). Sixteen years after the last expansion teams were added,
the league is looking to add more. There are four proposed cities for expansion teams: Las
Vegas, Seattle, Quebec City, and a second team in Toronto. Just because a city is a proposed city
does not mean that they will be getting a team. There is a selection process that includes a
committee approved by the NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, and a very high expansion fee of
$500 million. Adding new expansion teams to the league is a bigger deal than it may seem and
takes a good bit of effort: the perfect market must be chosen, an arena deal has to be worked out,
a staff needs to be hired and prepared, team details need to be finalized, financial situations have
to be looked at, and the remaining teams have to prepare for the addition of a new team. For the
other teams, this means signing more players to no move clauses or even having them waived so
they are prepared for the expansion draft. Despite the looming idea of everything that needs to be
taken care of, the league has decided on and approved a new expansion team: Las Vegas. Las Vegas
is what many may call the perfect opportunity for the NHL. There are

Privatization Of A Capitalist Society
A criminal is easier to deal with when they re found dead. A living criminal must be tried in court
of their peers, provided legal representation, and then must have whatever prison time they
receive if any paid for by the Government. Meanwhile a dead criminal just needs to be
acknowledged then buried. When it comes to dealing with live criminals, a government finds
itself in a position where it must provide for the safety and wellbeing of members of society that
are often ignored, which can be costly and lead to endless legal red tape. Seeking to relieve some
of this burden, The United States quickly leapt at the opportunity to take some of that burden and
deliver it to the private sector, and thus, the private, for profit prisonwas born (Mason). since we
already live and work under the control of the free market, privatization prisons makes sense in a
capitalist society. While this a straightforward and appealing approach, the nature of a prison
system and the duty it must fulfill in society makes such capitalist ideals difficult to implement
effectively as well as dangerous in practice. While not necessarily an abject failure, prison
privatization has been extremely detrimental to American society. The issues caused by private
prisons are multifaceted and complex, but they can be simplified into three main areas: an increase
in recidivism, a decrease in prisoner quality of life, and private influence over the American legal
system. The first, and most apparent

The Columbian Exchange, Cons, And The Impacts Of The...
In 1492, Columbus and his crew disembarked three ships: The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa
Maria. He and his crew were kindly welcomed by the foreign men and women he thought to be
the Indians of Asia. However, about two thousand years earlier, a group of Viking explorers
discovered the land and stayed there for a few years, before returning to Greenland. Although
Columbus did not discover this foreign land, he was responsible for the changes that soon followed
his voyage. These changes, referred to as the Columbian Exchange, altered the way the natives
lived, traded, hunted, and fought amongst other tribes. It also led to undesirable effects for the
tribes, as a result of the introduction of new diseases, slave labor, and advanced weaponry. From
first contact, the foreign Europeans forced the natives into quickly and radically adapting to the
new threats they faced and learning how to use the newly introduced products the Europeans
carried over to the New World. As the Europeans started arriving to the distant continent, disease
was an invisible menace to the natives. Although the Native American population was not aware of
the diseases the European men carried, the viruses decimated villages and quickly spread to
faraway lands from the minor exchange between village traders. The European explorers brought
smallpox, influenza, typhus, measles, malaria, and diphtheria into the new land, all of which the
native population had no immunity towards. This introduction

The American Industrial Revolution
The American industrial revolution took place from the late 1800s into the 1900s. An industrial
revolution is a boom in industry and manufacturing. It requires a workforce, leaders, and most
importantly natural resources like coal, steel, gold, silver and lumber. Coal was a valuable resource
needed to power factories and transportation like the transcontinental railroad that spanned across
the US. After the transcontinental railroad was built in 1869, more coal was found in the west that
could be mined and then transported to the factories in the east. This led to the increase in material
production and made manufacturing easier and cheaper. However, when coal is burned it gives off
pollution so an increase in coal usage also impacted the environment. Additionally, working
conditions in the factories back then were unimaginable. Workers were overworked and around
dangerous machines at a young age.
After the industrial revolution production of materials increased. According to Document 3, steel
production in 1865 was 3,100,000 tons and in 1900 production increased to 9,000,000 tons, over
triple the previous amount. During this time period the Bessemer Steel Process helped to increase
steel production by using less coal and making steel cheaper. This is significant because during the
industrial revolution steel was used to build the railroads, buildings and plows. As a result of
having more steel, more railroads and buildings can be built for cheaper, improving transportation

The Actions of Judge Danforth in The Crucible Essay
In any community, the people rely on the power of law and justice to protect them. When the
guardians of the law and order misuse their power it brings tragedy upon the town. In Arthur Miller
s The Crucible the inappropriate actions of the character of Judge Danforth, the voice of authority
of the community leads to the tragedy of social disruption of the town accompanied by breakdown
in communal solidarity. Firstly, throughout the play Judge Danforth acts with pride and arrogance.
At the commencement of act III Judge Danforth voices his view on the ongoing phase of the
witchcraft trials by stating that Do you take it upon yourself to determine what this court shall

His reply is accompanied with a vindictive nature towards anyone who opposes the actions of the
court or by extension, him. Therefore, his arrogance and pride restrains him from listening to
others point of view. Lastly, despite hearing about the mass opposition and rebellion at the
Andover witchcraft trials, Judge Danforth refuses to postpone the hangings and orders Reverend
Parris that Now hear me, and beguile yourselves no more... Postponement now speaks a
floundering on my part. (Miller 129). Danforth arrogantly waves off the request of postponement
made by Hale and Parris. He thinks that the act of postponement of the hangings will raise the
issue of his credibility as a judge. Danforth s pride of his status as a judge denies him from giving
it a thought that his actions can lead to the death of innocent lives. When pride and arrogance
interferes with ones wisdom the repercussions are often destructive. Judge Danforth proves this
through the medium of his actions which lead to the destruction of trustworthiness in the
community and brought tragedy to Salem. Secondly, Judge Danforth s irrationality and ignorance
brings about poor decisions on his part. One of the instances where Danforth reveals his
following attitude is when he denies to even look at a deposition presented by John Proctor as
described by his words No, no, I accept no depositions (Miller 88). John Proctor hands him a

How much is perfect information worth to him?
George would use the information to maximize his profit. In question 1, George did not have
perfect information about the future, therefore his best bet was to take the conservative route
based on assumptions, and estimations. For instance, the profit he made based on the assumption
in scenario 1 (50,000 people would come, 10% will buy his T shirt) is $23,900. If he had perfect
information, say he knew that the number of attendees would be 80,000 and 10% of them would
buy a shirt from him, he would place an order of exactly 8000 T shirts.
Assumption: He pays $5 for one extra T shirt in excess of 7,500 pcs. * Cost = $25,250 + 500*$5 =
$27,750 * Revenue = 8,000*8.33 = $66,640 * Profit = $66,640 $27,750 = $38,890
Perfect information is worth: $38,890 $23,917 = $14,973
Question 4: Assume George makes T shirts for 30 events per year:
Should George quit his day job and become a T shirt entrepreneur full time?
I will need the following information to address this question. 1) How much is his income at his
current job? 2) Is the income from making T shirts more or less substantial than his current job?
3) Based on the question he potentially has an event every 12 days. How big are these events? Are
they all as lucrative as the current event? 4) What is the competitive landscape? Is he the only

Lack Of Systemic Evaluation And Financial Resources Essay
The very bare existence of any organization is profit maximization through a series of inputs
maneuvered by a mixture of mechanical and human activity. Though businesses evaluate their
machine via depreciation, human evaluation remains their only challenge. To face this
challenge, Human resources managers and business leaders put together a system called:
Employee Performance Appraisal which sets to evaluate employees on a yearly basis. This
process often causes tension between employees and employers because it fails to do away with
biases and prejudices. So, it is hardly ever that an employee receives a fair performance
evaluation. Many kinds of bias can show up during the performance appraisal process. The most
common ones occur when managers or appraisers compare two employees performance against
each other while using only one form for each department, a process that discourages smart and
strong employees from seeking higher ranks within. Some argue that lack of systemic evaluation

You are probably thinking about which surgeon you should go with and how you will actually
pay for the surgery. Two major considerations are how to avoid physical strain after surgery and
how much time you ll need to spend away from work and other obligations. Will you be able to
set up an environment that is calm and relaxing that will speed up healing? Patients should also
keep in mind that they will not need to spend their recuperation time in bed for a full week.
Instead, you only have to minimize your physical activities and follow your doctor s instructions to
properly heal.
If you are seriously thinking about getting breast enhancements, really take all aspects of the
surgery into account as well as how you will recover. Once you know what to expect and you are
prepared to closely follow your surgeon s suggestions, you will have a higher probability of
having a successful recovery which will enhance your appearance and boost your confidence for

The Religion of Islam Essay
Islam is derived from the Arabic root salaama meaning peace, purity, submission and obedience.
Islam stands for making peace by submitting to the will of God and obeying His law. Jews and
Christians view Islam as the latest of the world s great religions. However, worldwide Muslims
(sometimes written Moslems ) understand their universal religion as the final religion and the
primal religion.
As final, Islam is God s final revelation of prophetic religion, in fulfillment of all that had
preceded. Moses was given the Law; David was given the Psalms; Jesus was given the Gospel.
Judaism offers God s message of justice, and Christianity proclaims the love of God. To Mohammed

For the one billion or more Muslims (about six million in the United States), who are of many racial
and ethnic backgrounds Arabs being a minority Islam is the middle way between Judaism and
Christianity; it restores the unity of the children of Abraham and overcomes the limitations of
Judaism and Christianity. Jesus, the prophet to the lost sheep of Israel, limits Christianity; Judaism
is similarly limited. Islam proclaims a practical synthesis of Judaism and Christianity for all
humanity.
Overcoming the incompleteness of the justice of Judaism and the idealistic love of Christianity,
Islam brings to fulfillment all that Judaism and Christianity anticipated. For the Muslim believer,
Islam is perfected Judaism and perfected Christianity.
As primal, Islam is the authentic religion of Adam, of Abraham, and of human nature. Islam is
not younger than Judaism and Christianity; it preceded both. Not only is it the religion of the
Spoken Book (the Qur an), it is as well the religion of the Created Book (the fabric of the universe
itself). According to the Muslim faith, every person is born a Muslim, and distortions of one s
environment lead a person astray to become a Christian, a Jew, or an unbeliever. To be human
means to be Muslim.
Beliefs
The doctrines underlying Islam include

  • 2. Electrical Activities in the Human Body Introduction Biopotential signals are electrical activities of the human body systems which are measured by potential fluctuations between points in living cells, tissues and organisms .In medicine field, certain biopotential signals are important as they are considering diagnosis and patient monitoring. These signals represent the activity of particular organs such as the heart, brain, muscles and many more. With the help of specialised electrodes, biopotential signals transduce low noise and artefact free signals to the organ or the body. A basic biopotential amplifier consists of an instrumentation amplifier. The amplifier should have several characteristics such as high amplification, input impedance and the ability to reject any electrical interference. These characteristics are needed to measure biopotentials signals. Other component can be added to the circuit in order to improve the signals; filter can be added to reduce electric interference, electric isolation and defibrillation shock protection. The electrical activity can originate from different tissues and organs sources. There are different sources of biopotential signals such as EEG, ECG, EMG; they are all based on the same principles however the signals will have smaller amplitudes. Electroencephalogram (EEG) records the electric activity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box. Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be or not to be speech. Both of these works of literature seem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death. Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism. Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play allows the readers to see his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Occupy Wall Street In 2008, the United States of America (US) experienced a financial crisis which affected the rest of the world. Investment banks and Wall Street crashed. It left a good portion of US citizens in debt, unemployed, homeless, etc. As a result, Occupy Wall Street became a movement to demonstrate that the people have had enough and started protesting and voicing their opinions. In terms of globalization, the development of Occupy movements have altered the notion of social movements to which it is not just about highlighting and fighting for causes, rather it desires to place the power back into the hands of the people. The term movements has become a catchall definition about the mobilization of people from short term causes to longterm... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American economy was plummeting and taking the world with it. After a few years, the citizens realize what caused the crisis and how it happened which created the OWS movement and the population frustration with the capitalist system. In addition, one must note that those who caused the financial crisis avoided punishment. They were the ones who lead the economy into failure and, now, promising that they are the only ones who can fix it. In Inside Job, it demonstrated the consequences of the crisis and financial innovation, through the educational system. It means that those who consulted with financial firms and companies were professors or on the board of directors of ivy league schools, who teach their economic ideologies onto the future generation.7 Ergo, this is creating a vicious economic cycle that needs to change. Occupy Wall Street: Origin, Purpose, Values and Goals As a result of the 2008 US financial crisis, the OWS was formed within the period of the US recovery process to fight the oppression of the current economic powers. From various sources, OWS seemed to have gained inspiration from Arab Spring. The Arab Spring is a wave of protests for political change. The Americans realized that they desired a change of economic system because the capitalist system was creating social inequality.8 Still, the movement of OWS is an occupy movement that needs to be defined and understand the shift ... Analysis Of Translation Nation By Hector Tovar The book Translation Nation by Hector Tovar begins by telling his own story, and how migrating to Los Angeles from Guatemala changed his parents and shaped his. Not only that, but how iconic Che Guevara was to his family, even comparing him to god. He continued by showing the similarities in Los Angeles and New York, how the Latino immigrants were following in the steps of those from around Europe, assimilating and creating a community of their own. Then he began talking about the border between Tijuana, Mexico, and California. Describing the emptiness of the beach that day, and the fact that many people from all over Mexico were wandering the streets of Tijuana, waiting for nightfall to cross the border. Also describing the tactics border patrol use to find the immigrants before they cross. Even including interviews with people waiting to cross, some knowing the tactics of border patrol and others clueless, following el coyote y el pollero. In addition, Tovar went undercover, pretending to be an immigrant looking for work, and experienced first hand the process. Throughout the book, he includes the story of many people who he met along the way. Their stories helped write the book, and give a more personal meaning to it. The first group described in the book would be all those trying to cross the border. Tovar met many people who were trying to cross the border or had successfully crossed or got caught. • 6. Over Fishing Research Paper Commercial fishing has a great affect on the marine life for many reasons. Those reasons include species of marine life going extinct, or over population. Some marine life are going extinct from overfishing because as scientists said fish are able to produce only a limited quantity of fish over time this problem cannot only affect the fishbut it can affect the entire ecosystem in the ocean. Some species of fish are also going extinct from bycatch. Bycatch is when other species of fish or marine life is captured in the nets with the target fish that is supposed to be caught. It is estimated by scientists that 25 percent of the commercial fishingindustries around the world harvest is discarded bycatch. Some species of marine life cannot only go extinct but it can also overpopulate. Certain types of marine life can go extinct because their predators are going also going extinct. This issue arose in the early 1900s when commercial fishing industries expanded their fishing fleets.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the population increases the fishing industry must meet the demand for more fish. While catching the fish they use nets that are 260 feet in length which catch about 100 tons of fish daily. The size of the net makes it greater to overfish because this net is as long as a football field which catches tons of fish. Another cause of overfishing is bycatch, because these unwanted fish are being caught in the nets with the type of fish that is being targeted. Overfishing and bycatch can lead to many problems and one of the main problems of overfishing and bycatch is the species of fish or marine life going extinct. The consequences of this problem is some of fish and marine life going extinct. When it happens it can affect many things such as not providing certain animals food. • 7. General Aviation And A Business Jet General Aviation Value Analysis The Comparison This General Aviation Value Analysis will provide a comparison between commercial aviation and a business jet. To help with this comparison a short distance and a long distance trip will be used. Both trips will be a business trip in nature and each include myself and three additional colleagues. The business trip is set for July 12th. The departure location is Seattle, WA to Boise, ID (short trip) and Seattle, WA to Houston, TX (long trip). The analysis can then be used by the business to compare and contrast the best solution. Commercial Air Travel The commercial airline selected for the business trip is Alaska Airlines. The airline is the ideal carrier because Seattle is Alaska Airline s hub, making it the best choice for both trips. It s important to point put today that commercial airlines face an overwhelming high volume of travelers. With more and more passengers traveling via commercial airlines, one of challenges business travelers face today is the longer wait times through the TSA security check point, delayed flights, overbooked flights, and even flight cancellations. This in return can cost a business a deal, increase business travel time, and add to the travel cost. For many business travelers time is money. Short Trip from Seattle to Boise п‚· Departing July, 11 at 4:15 / Returning July 12 departing at 7:30 pm $264.70 per person x 4 = $1,058.80 п‚· For travel times not including time in airplane o Check in, ... • 8. Critical Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Critical theory , in terms of literature, can be defined as a form of criticism through the close reading of a text and the application of knowledge acquired from the study of the humanities. The multiple readings mentioned in the question refers to the different schools of literary criticism for example, structuralism, feminist theory, new historicism/cultural materialism, ecocriticism and postcolonial criticism. It is true to say that Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud can be read and interpreted in many different ways, especially when both the original and revised versions of the poem are taken into account. In my opinion, the most interesting criticism that can be applied to this poem is structuralism, which I will be analysing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Accessed: 22 November 2015), Barthes references factors of structuralism, such as parallels in plot, which change the way we interpret I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud . What Barthes calls binary opposites are showcased in the first and fourth stanzas respectively. The first stanza creates a lonely and lost feeling whereas there is a sense of jubilance in the fourth stanza as the bliss of solitude is expressed. The feeling of loneliness is lamented in the opening stanza whereas it is described as joyous in the last stanza, which I believe can be reduced to a dyad of happy/sad; the next question is which side of the dichotomy the poem verges on. In my opinion, the images expressed in the poem as well as the language used (such as sprightly and jocund ) mean that I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud sides with the idea of happiness, mainly due to the scenic descriptions and the warm ending to the poem, and then my heart with pleasure fills / and dances with the daffodils William Wordsworth, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud , Poems (1815) Cited in Harvey Sucksmith, Orchestra and the Golden Flower: A Critical Interpretation of the Two Versions of Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud , The Yearbook of English Studies vol. 4 (1974), pg. 149 158. • 9. Lancastrian Exceptionalism In Shakespeare s Second Neutralogy Lancastrian Exceptionalism: Crisis and the Crown in Shakespeare s Second Tetralogy Sovereign, argues Carl Schmitt, is he who decides on the exception (5). Far from the only definition of sovereignty available to us, this narrow understanding, he continues, is a borderline case and not...routine. Indeed, the exception is to be understood to refer to a general concept in the theory of the state, and not merely to a construct applied to any emergency decree or state of siege. Thus, because [t]he exception...is not codified in the existing legal order, it must necessarily be characterized as a case of extreme peril, a danger to the existence of the state (6). Conversely, in non crisis situations, Schmitt implies, we should expect the law rather than the will of the head of state to clearly delineate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way, the head of state does not normally have sovereign power to dictate his will over his own laws, precisely because the lack of emergency prevents him from acting autocratically. If we apply Schmitt s theory to late mediaeval English history, we see that he is largely correct, at least insofar as the royal succession is concerned. Consider the century of stable succession in England from Edward I s accession in 1274 to Richard II s in 1377, for example. With each king s demise, there was no question as to who would inherit the crown. Even in the case of Edward II s violent deposal and murder not simply a single, tumultuous event but rather a gradual erosion of the king s authority in the years before his overthrow Schmitt s theory holds true. As there was no immediate crisis of authority, there was no opportunity for a sovereign to step forward and seize upon the exception, and the young Edward III came to the throne almost automatically, as expected and indeed as the law dictated. In contrast, the Lancastrian kings who followed Richard II Henry IV, and his son Henry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Importance Of Toxic Leadership The Corps of the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) has been around since the formation of the Continental Army in 1775. The basic responsibility of the NCO was to fill gaps in the lines and keep soldiers quiet on mission while leading (Perkioniemi, 2009). Currently, the responsibilities of the NCO focus on soldier welfare and accomplishing the mission (NCO Creed). Toxic leadershipis a serious concern for the military, and it is undermining the reputation of the NCO Corps. What is toxic leadership, how can it be addressed, and what will happen to the Corps if it is allowed to continue? Toxic leadership as defined by Wilson (2014) is a combination of self centered attitudes, motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on subordinates, the organization, and mission performance . NCOs, just as civilians, range from poor leaders to excellent leaders; but when does poor leadership become toxic leadership and what causes this toxic leadership? Not every soldier is born to lead. Some soldiers are bad decision makers, poor time managers, or just unable to inspire confidence in their fellow soldiers. There is nothing wrong with being a follower if you are a competent individual who can perform the given tasks. A NCO who cannot step up and lead is not a toxic leader, they are a bad leader. With education and training NCOs with poor leaderships skills develop into competent leaders. Toxic leadership is a result of narcissistic leaders, individuals who have an ... • 12. Comparing Cinderella And Donkeyskin The protagonists in both stories of Cinderella and Donkeyskin are perhaps a vivid example of a character who is lost. In both stories, the girls are bound by one reason or another, whether it consist of her father, or two sisters and a godmother who have no care for her fate. Both stories portray her as helpless and equally unwilling to rebel against other characters, perhaps out of fear or her personality alone. Instead, she essentially beats them out in a more passive yet effective way. However throughout both these stories, it is clear that she does not have the wealth or luxury of doing this alone, hence where other characters take on that role. These characters are possibly abstract, or perhaps visions/voices from the thoughts of another character, such as Cinderella when the prince carries away the step sisters one by one, but the birds offer a piece of advice, telling the prince of a poem that explains that he has chosen the wrong girl. My Senior Art Therapy Capstone Class My senior art therapy capstone class gave me the tools not only to understand my personal art making process, but the benefits of artistic creation for other individuals as well. Through this final project, I was able to therapeutically process a traumatic event in my life and turn something negative into a positive light. Process based art therapy highlights the educational and transformative properties of art making and natural creation. My personal style is continuously evolving, but it is often based in collage work or drawing figures with pencil on paper. My artistic style highlights a sense of control and desire to work with traditional mediums. I ve always worked with pencil and paper or collage because of the ease of access to materials. There were always pencils and printer paper or empty journals for me to draw in no matter where I was. Additionally, I loved to draw people and create my own characters. I draw people because it brings an emotional aspect to my art that makes the drawing seem less static. When drawing different faces, I can create depth and feeling into their eyes that makes the 2 dimensional character seem real. One artist who has always inspired my style is Alphonse Mucha. Mucha s decorative art featured a variety of women with flowing hair and long billowing dresses. The women in his pieces commanded a sense of power with their brightly colored backgrounds and all knowing faces (1). I d never seen art that depicted women in such a way, not ... How Electoral Systems Shape Election Results How Electoral Systems Shape Election Results: The Case of the 2015 Federal Election in Canada The 2015 Canadian Federal Election, which saw Justin Trudeau become the new Prime Minister, brought in the highest ever number of voters in Canadian history. Despite the high confidence of the Conservative party to win this election, many factors contributed to their defeat. Chief among these factors, which is the focus of this paper, pertains to the type of electoral system employed in Canada: the first past the post (FPTP) or single member plurality. This paper presents an analysis of the outcome of the 2015 election that is grounded in a discussion of how different electoral systems produce the particular structures that directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This FPTP system has also been said to lead to small parties being under represented in election outcomes, which may misleadingly underestimate the popularity of their views than is actually the case (Donley, 2003). Moreover, because the percentage of seats is not in proportion to the MPs share of votes in their ridings, the common sentiment among voters is that their vote is essentially wasted. The issue of disproportionality has been used as a basis to propose electoral reform in Canada. The alternatives to Canada s current FPTP electoral system include, but are not limited to, proportional representation (PR) and the alternative vote system. In PR systems, seats are distributed on a nationwide or regional basis. Parties victories stem from their proportion of the vote in multi member constituencies (Donley, 2003). Advocates of the PR system point to the distorted preferences of voters in a single member plurality system and thus the fairness of having a legislature more reflective of the partisan distribution of votes; in essence, each vote should bear equal weight, they argue (Donley, 2003). The typical rebuttal to this argument proposed by opponents of PR is that the executive stability brought forth by artificial legislative majorities is a more important consideration, and that PR is likely to produce more coalition governments (Cairns, 1968). Another alternative to the FPTP system is the alternative vote system, whereby voters rank candidates on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Hajime Isayama s Novel Attack On Titan Graphic artist Hajime Isayama s best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a walled community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids Titans that consume humans (Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13 year old Eren JГ¤ger features as the main protagonist, who pledges his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren s noble dedication is fueled by the multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy. The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr. Grisha JГ¤ger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Minimum wage serves as a tool for distributive economic justice as it ensures that citizens have the means for basic sustenance while the free market system serves as a tool for commutative economic justice as its grants largely unrestricted access for both consumers and producers. • 25. Participation In Democratic Political Participation The question why nonprofit organizations exist can be answered in various forms, depending on which disciplines and orientations one has adopted. In political theory, for instance, nonprofit exists because of its partnership with the government sector in financing a variety of public services. The political scientists view both existences in relations to providing opportunities for civic participation in the pluralistic and political system of a heterogeneous society (Wikipedia, 2017). In order to respond to the above question, we first and foremost defined democratic political participation. The democratic political participation is a means by which a person contributes to a political process by making his or her opinion and beliefs known (Wikipedia, 2017). In addition, it originates from the freedom to speak out, to assemble, and to associate (Boris, 2017). In assessing the role of nonprofit in democratic political participation, Elizabeth Clemens considers nonprofit organizations as an entity for building relationships that holds communities together and provides opportunities for civic participation (Otto Dicke, 2015). Obviously, nonprofit organizations are renowned for thriving and successful democracies. Essentially, they assist to build the networks of trust and reciprocity, the social capital that allows democratic societies to function effectively (Putnam 1993; Walzer 1991). The league started in 1942 with just six teams known as The Original Six and has expanded to 30 teams since then with the last teams being added in 2000 (Various). Sixteen years after the last expansion teams were added, the league is looking to add more. There are four proposed cities for expansion teams: Las Vegas, Seattle, Quebec City, and a second team in Toronto. Just because a city is a proposed city does not mean that they will be getting a team. There is a selection process that includes a committee approved by the NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, and a very high expansion fee of $500 million. Adding new expansion teams to the league is a bigger deal than it may seem and takes a good bit of effort: the perfect market must be chosen, an arena deal has to be worked out, a staff needs to be hired and prepared, team details need to be finalized, financial situations have to be looked at, and the remaining teams have to prepare for the addition of a new team. For the other teams, this means signing more players to no move clauses or even having them waived so they are prepared for the expansion draft. However, about two thousand years earlier, a group of Viking explorers discovered the land and stayed there for a few years, before returning to Greenland. Although Columbus did not discover this foreign land, he was responsible for the changes that soon followed his voyage. These changes, referred to as the Columbian Exchange, altered the way the natives lived, traded, hunted, and fought amongst other tribes. It also led to undesirable effects for the tribes, as a result of the introduction of new diseases, slave labor, and advanced weaponry. From first contact, the foreign Europeans forced the natives into quickly and radically adapting to the new threats they faced and learning how to use the newly introduced products the Europeans carried over to the New World. As the Europeans started arriving to the distant continent, disease was an invisible menace to the natives. Although the Native American population was not aware of the diseases the European men carried, the viruses decimated villages and quickly spread to faraway lands from the minor exchange between village traders. The European explorers brought smallpox, influenza, typhus, measles, malaria, and diphtheria into the new land, all of which the native population had no immunity towards. This introduction ... • 33. The American Industrial Revolution The American industrial revolution took place from the late 1800s into the 1900s. An industrial revolution is a boom in industry and manufacturing. It requires a workforce, leaders, and most importantly natural resources like coal, steel, gold, silver and lumber. Coal was a valuable resource needed to power factories and transportation like the transcontinental railroad that spanned across the US. After the transcontinental railroad was built in 1869, more coal was found in the west that could be mined and then transported to the factories in the east. This led to the increase in material production and made manufacturing easier and cheaper. However, when coal is burned it gives off pollution so an increase in coal usage also impacted the environment. Additionally, working conditions in the factories back then were unimaginable. Workers were overworked and around dangerous machines at a young age. After the industrial revolution production of materials increased. According to Document 3, steel production in 1865 was 3,100,000 tons and in 1900 production increased to 9,000,000 tons, over triple the previous amount. During this time period the Bessemer Steel Process helped to increase steel production by using less coal and making steel cheaper.
