The Cause And Effects Of The Great Recession
The Great Recession was an economic recession that took place across the globe during the late
2000s. It was caused by the bursting of an $8,000,000,000,000 housing bubble. A housing bubble is
caused by a substantial increase in real estate property values to an unsustainable level until a limit is
reached where the market collapses. This led to less consumer spending, a collapse in business
investing, and eventually an increase in job loss. Family wealth dropped, and the price of oil increased
greatly. The Great Recession created a lasting aftermath on the economy and the lives of Americans.
The impact of the staggering loss of financial investments and employment security, and the decline of
real estate value that devastated the U.S. economy during the Great Recession, is still being felt even
to this day. The unemployment rate is still returning to normal after the Great Recession. This is
because during the economic recession, job loss increased dramatically. This had a huge impact on the
lives of Americans. According to Investopedia, As a result of the Great Recession, the United States
alone shed more than 7.5 million jobs, causing its unemployment rate to double. Further, American
households lost roughly $16 trillion of net worth as a result of the stock market plunge. (Investopedia)
Many people lost their jobs, which prevented them from earning money. This meant that many people
couldn t afford to buy food and clothes, and had to sell their belongings

Lottery and Random Number Selection
The lottery is one of the oldest known game of chance, dating all the way back to 205 B.C. in the Han
Dynasty. Being built upon pure luck, it has garnered attention all over the world in it s various forms
of existence. After money began its association with the lottery in l443, it became even more popular
worldwide. While existing in multiple forms, the most popular form of lottery is the randomly selected
number method, where winnings are based on the correct numbers predicted. It is estimated that
nearly half of the citizens living in the United States have participated in the lettery. An alarmingly

The Game of Lottery As mentioned before, the most popular form of lottery is the methed of random
number selection. In the American lottery, a player first picks five different whole numbers between 1
and 59. Upon calculation, there are 5,006,386 combinations that could be made from the availability
of these numeral combinations. After the player has chosen their five numbers, they pick another, final
number that is between 1 and 35 the powerball. A list of the combinations would look like (1, 2, 3, 4,
5), (1, 2, 3, 4, 6) and so on all the way up to (55, 56, 57, 58, 59). Thus, in calculating a player s chance

Causes Of The Protestant Reformation
The early church had all the power over everything in most of Europe. It was the wealthiest thing in
all the land and with that came other big concepts. The church had power over the people, over other
people s money and even other people s lives. However, during the time period of 1300 to 1789 the
church s power declined by a significant amount. A number of things happened that decreased the
church s power during the time period of 1300 to 1789, but the Protestant reformation and the
Scientific Revolution had weakened the role of the church the most. The Protestant Reformation had
decreased the role of the church in Europe by decreasing its power by a large margin. Martin Luther
had, had some ideas of what was wrong with the church. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefor Darwin s theory had proven such an important story of the church incorrect and people
began to follow science more than religion, thus weakening the role of the church in Europe.
Astronomy had weakened the role of the church by showing that humans are not are not praised by
God as we thought. People used to believe that Earth was the center of the universe and everything
evolved around us in perfect circles showing that we are important because we are God s creation. The
church agreed with this and condemned any other ideas Both Protestant and Catholic religious leaders
condemned the work because it was contrary to traditional teachings (Watts). Nicolaus Copernicus had
founded the heliocentric system where everything had evolved around the sun, not the earth and that it
was not in perfect circles. The heliocentric solar system had weakened the church by showing that
God did not make his creation the great center of the universe and not everything in space is perfect.
The biggest reason on how science decreases the role of the church is by proof. Science isn t
something we just believe in like religion, it s something we need to prove. The Scientific Revolution
decreased the role of the church by showing proof that somethings in the church are false.
Many things had decreased the role of the church

Introduction:
This paper will discuss andragogy and pedagogy, learning. How they work, how they re compared to
each other. How andragogy and pedagogy learning approach is different when teaching adult and
children.
Summary of Finding Studies have shows that if children start school with a strong set of outlooks and
skills this helps them learn. They will be better capable to take advantage of educational opportunities.
Despite the fact some knowledge skills come naturally to children, others can be industrialized
through a supportive atmosphere. Different parts of the brain control different kinds of function is
basic building blocks in the brain as the children gain knowledge. Every neuron has an axon, which
outputs impulses to other neurons. Shonkoff, J.P., D.A. (Eds) 2000
During this early years learning is very important for a child s development this continue from
childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Andragogy is identified as the arts and science of assisting
adults learn. Pedagogy has been described as the arts and science of teaching children. The objective
of both is education the difference is one target adults the other aims at children. Let s demonstrate
how they work for children and adults learn differently. Children generally are codependent and count
on a teacher to provide them with the information to learn. Whereas adults are self direct and take
responsibility of their desire to obtain knowledge.

Essay about Clancy of the Overflow
Clancy of the Overflow Analysis
Bush poetry gives people a unique and interesting prospective into the people who made this country
the way it is today and the history behind it. Clancy of the Overflow is a well known bush poem by
poet AB Banjo Paterson. Clancy of the overflow is about a person from the city who met a drover/
shearer named Clancy. After meeting him he becomes jealous of Clancy s lifestyle which is better than
his city life. In this poem Banjo uses a variety of poetic devices to get his message across like the use
of suggestive language, descriptive language and imagery. Banjo uses suggestive language to make
the reader realise that country life is much better than city life where it ... Show more content on

Banjo does this to persuade the reader in believing that the country lifestyle which is portrayed as free,
clean and laid back is better than the city lifestyle which is portrayed as dirty, hot and boring. Banjo
also makes the reader believe that the attractiveness of living off the land and idealizing the country
life as a drover making the quality of life in the country seems greater than in the city. Banjo uses
imagery and the first person point of view to help the reader imagine what it would be like to be a
drover. The person living in the city imagines what Clancy the drover is doing and feeling while he is
stuck in a hot office all day. As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing and
also He sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the
everlasting stars. The city living character is conveying what Clancy the drover is doing and how
peaceful it would be if he could do the same. He also says And I somehow fancy that I d like to
change with Clancy. This suggests that the city living character is somewhat jealous of Clancy, his job
and his lifestyle. The city living character furthermore explains the city life as Of the tramways and
the buses making hurry down the street, and the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting .
This suggests that the he doesn t like his life in the city and considers it as busy and also

they are unaware of what monstrous deeds he is capable of. Mrs. Ulgine Barrows is the latest to join F

reign over the established company. Continuously, she pushes his buttons further, and he is

life once he sneaks in. There is no reasonable explanation he would be here. This woman was nothing
other than a nuisance to him, and it is obvious he is showing up with unpleasant intentions. He does
not walk in as a guest, he prowls like a poisonous snake, on the move for his prey. Once he is clear of
potential witnesses, he makes his way to her door where she stands. This shocks him and he moves
into swift motion and, He rushed past her like a football tackle (3). Mrs. Barrows blows it off with a
snarky comment, but there is suspicion lingering, when he questions if there is anyone else there.
Sadly, she does not head warning, but instead she answers him concluding they are indeed alone, and
he is at ease. Frantically, he scans the room for the weapon for murdering her. Mr. Martin is not a hunt
for any weapon, the text reads, Mr. Martin looked quickly around the living room for THE weapon

available, as mapped out. Initially, his plan all along was to kill her with whatever he found in her
place. Following, he catches sight of a knife and he test if it is sharp enough, but came to a loss
because, It was blunt. It wouldn t do (4). Obviously, this is a red flag, especially considering how
much he despises her. Not only is he seeking the appropriate sharp object, he also makes sure to retain
his gloves, in case there is a residue of blood or fingerprints. Once he fails to find a dagger, a sudden
thought arises. Instead of striking her dead, he realizes it is possible to deceive her. As he lies, he still

Analysis Of The Book Son Of God
As a Sunday Bible School and Vacation Bible School teacher in my church, I have watched many
short episodes of the Bible stories in cartoon style. Then, for this assignments I decided to use a
couple movies that I have watched in the past: The Bible as a television miniseries Spanish version,
and the movie Son of God. I identified the following characters for their participation in the movies.
1. ADAM Sendhil Ramamurthy
Sendhil Ramamurthy was born in Chicago, Illinois, in May 17, 1974. He is an American actor. He is
best known for his roles as geneticist Mohinder Suresh in the NBC sci fi drama Heroes and Jai Wilcox
in the action spy series Covert Affairs. He appeared as Abhay in the Indian film Shor in the City. He
played Gabriel Lowen in The CW sci fi romance series Beauty the Beast. He went to Keystone School
and graduated in 1991. Ramamurthy is married to actress Olga Sosnovska with two children, daughter
Halina and son Alex, and lives in London.
He played the role of Adam in the Mini Series In the Beginning (2000)
2. NOAH David Rintoul
David Rintoul is a Scottish stage and television actor, who was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on
November 29, 1948. He studied at Edinburgh University and won a scholarship to study at the Royal
Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He plays the role of David in the television miniseries The

Analysis Of Nanook Of The North
Nanook of the North (Robert J. Flaherty, 1922) is a silent docudrama that was released to demonstrate
the way that the Inuit people live in day to day life. To a person in the western world in the 1920 s they
would believe that this is how they live, dress and how they survive in day to day situations. In fact,
what Flaherty filmed, was scripted and the Inuit family we follow were not actually family. Flaherty
also decided to have the Inuit people dressed as they would previously in history, where as they were
dressing like western world civilisation in the 1920 s. This could have been due to wanting to make
the Inuit s come across as a new and exotic civilisation, compared to the ordinary people.
In this paper, I will be collating primary sources, released during the time of Nanook of the North
being released to discuss the attitude the people of the western world had on the Inuit s and the
docudrama Nanook of the North. The sources I will be collating will consist of newspaper extracts,
images used to promote the film as well as the book written Flaherty about his expedition to the
Canadian Arctic.
Nanook will undoubtedly be the household talk all this week opens the Evening Telegraph
advertisement for Nanook of the North. Instantly this advertisement gets the reader thinking about
why it could be such a talking point within the home. That is then answered with the line; the wonder
film of modern times . When Nanook of the North was premiered, it was the first

Causes Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
Missiles in Cuba Build Tensions Between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.
It was almost the start of a nuclear war, or what would be World War III. The Cuban Missile Crisis
was a major event during the Cold War. It brought the citizens of the U.S. to the edge of their seats
because, like the flip of a switch, their world could be turned upside down. John F. Kennedy and
Nikita Khrushchev were fighting for their beliefs and the safety of their own country. It was once said
that this event is when, the Cold War got hot . The Cuban Missile Crisis was the most significant in
causing the most tensions because it was the closest to home the Cold War had gotten and it deeply
impacted the citizens.

The World Is Not A New Way Of Thinking Essay
The world can only appear monochromatic to those who persist in interpreting what they experience
through the lens of a single cultural paradigm, their own (Davis 6). Growing up in a twenty first
century western culture society has created an ethnocentrism view of the cultures that created the
world into what it is today. This thought of western society as being ethnocentric is not a new way of
thinking. In fact, the world has been practicing the act of viewing one s own culture as superior to that
of another for hundreds of centuries, if not even longer. We raise our children on stories of
ethnocentrism, maybe not the far extreme views and acts of it, but the idea that the first Americans
came to the new world and ate with the native tribes, which would only be the first act of a ballad that
would end with only 1.7 percent of the American population being of full native American decent.
Wade Davis goes even further in a view of ethnocentrism for the world. He skips past the well known
stories and express new knowledge of stories never heard before to many Western society cultures. We
all know of Hitler and his terror of exterminating six million Jews in the holocaust, but what about Pol
pot and his extermination of three million people in an attempt to push a better society forward.
Or that islands of the Kula ring are able to maintain life and relationships based off of constant trade,

Native American Men Stereotypes Analysis
Short Assignment #2 When discussing characters in film and television, portrayals almost always
contain some sort of stereotype. This is especially true of male characters whose qualities are often
shaped around anger and aggression. We can see individuals across genres shown with repeated
motivations, actions, and appearances. These depictions delve even further into stereotyping when we
begin to examine characters who are also people of color. The media often depicts people of color in
tropes based on their racial and ethnic identities, and these tropes are usually offensive and
demeaning. People of color are usually shown in two ways; more aggressive and violent than the
white hero, or less aggressive and violent without imposing a physical threat. Either depiction is meant

The X Files are television show that tracks the adventures of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
In the episode Anasazi, Scully and Mulder follow a case that leads them to a Navajo Reservation in

the Navajo to keep him alive. When I was younger I was often perplexed by stereotypical depictions
of Native Americans in the media. Most of my family is Native American, and while I am not native
myself I was always confused because they never acted in stereotypical ways. Now that I am older
and have began to analyze the portrayal of people of color, I have started to notice the fetishization of
these individuals and their association with nature and mysticism. When associating people of color
with mystical roles, these powers are often meant to aide a usually white hero with no gain for the
person of color. These characters also pose no threat to the hero, and have no existence outside of

The Statement Of Purpose Of The Bean Plant Experiment
Statement of Purpose
For my independent project I performed the Bean Plant Experiment. I originally wanted to know
whether artificial light worked as well as or better than natural light for growing a bean plant. I was
asking this question because I believe that natural light works better to help a plant grow taller than
artificial light does. Since I believed that natural light works better overall, by doing the Bean Plant
Experiment I could determine the answer to my question.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis that is looking to be proved, if a bean plant is exposed to eight hours of natural light
per day, then it s rate of growth will be higher than a bean plant exposed to eight hours of artificial
sunlight per day.
Background
Before beginning the Bean Plant Experiment I had to gather many different materials to be able to
carry it out. I had to obtain six of the same kind and relatively the same size, of bean seeds as well as
two, small, four inch clay pots. I also used the graduated cylinder that was in the lab kit that I
purchased at the beginning of the year for this class. I also had to get soil. For my soil I chose Miracle
Gro potting soil because that is what my mom uses for her flowers. Another item that I needed was a
ruler with millimeters on it so I could measure the height of each plant everyday. The last thing on my
list of materials was a piece of graph paper and a pencil.
Next I had to set up my work space to provide myself with the most accurate results. I cleared off a
window seal in my house that sets on the south side of my house where the sun would best hit the
plant. I then cleared out a spot in my brothers closet for the second plant, which would work better
than mine would have considering he never goes in his closet. Something else that probably wasn t
necessary but helped in the long run was I set out all of my equipment so it wouldn t be such a hassle
and I wouldn t have to worry about not being able to find everything.
Experimental Method
To begin my experiment I first took the two four inch clay pots and put two scoops of Miracle Gro soil
into both of the pots. Then I gathered the six bean seeds of relatively the same size and I put three
seeds in each of the pots. I placed each to

A Brief Look at Charlie Chaplin
Every day millions of Americans go to theaters with their families to enjoy movies. Watching films
has become one of the most popular activities to do. Although plenty of people know of Charlie
Chaplin, most do not know any real information about him. Charlie Chaplin has been a major
contributor to America s advancement in the film industry from his innovative beginnings, and
perseverance to improve and succeed, to his overall achievements in history. Charlie Chaplin was born
in South London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child of Hannah and Charles Chaplin. Charles
was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer. Charlie s father was a drunk and he later left his
family when he was three years old when he found out his wife had an affair with another actor, Leo
Dryden. They soon had a child named George, who left to live with his father. Since Hannah was now
a single mother, she was struggling to find a way to provide for her children. She had another son that
was older than Charlie, from a previous relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s singing alone was not
enough to earn her the money to care for two boys. She took up sweatshop work on a sewing machine
she rented to earn extra income. Due to the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family moved
in and out of orphanages and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer ended
abruptly in 1894. She lost her voice during a performance. While the crowd was getting rowdy and

Social And Governmental Norms On The Lives Of Millions Of...
Ordinary Citizens in any situation can make a difference, if their will is great enough and their
situation desperate enough. In America s past, insubordination and uprising have been how this
country is shaped: whether it be revolting against Britain, demanding the end of slavery as a part of
the Civil War, or even gaining women s rights by marching in New York s streets. Uprising, even by a
single individual, against social and governmental norms has changed the course of history for
thousands of others. Rachel Carson is one of those citizens whose actions have altered the lives of
millions of Americans. Carson, a women raised in a typical early twentieth century american
household, went on to become a female enviromental scientist who published a revolutionary book
about organochlorine pesticides that began the environmental movement in the United States. Her
book, and her advocation for the environment, has lead to the changing of health and safety laws for

Essay On Supervisor
A supervisor watching over your shoulder while you work is disconcerting and can undermine your
confidence. Constant, unnecessary comments, questions, and interruptions by your boss decrease your
productivity and are often just downright irritating. If you ve yet to experience micromanagement in
the workplace, consider yourself lucky, so far. At some point, though, you re bound to encounter it,
and being able to identify what it is, why it is, and what you can do about it will help you handle the
situation gracefully. The Involved Manager Sometimes managers will frequently inquire about a task,
offer commentary, or ask questions for the purpose of information gathering or as a way to more
closely participate in operations. Though this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they do return time and time again, perhaps preempting them to offer updates on your progress will
help relieve their anxiety. If your boss has a specific concern, a looming deadline, for example, they
will probably appreciate being able to take updates off of their mental to do list. It s important to listen
to feedback, answer questions, and offer assurance to your boss when it s needed. However, if their
anxiety driven micromanaging is keeping you from doing your job to the best of your ability, you need
to let them know. The goal is to instill trust and confidence that you ve got this and that you ll check in
regularly, especially if issues or uncertainties arise. The Controlling Manager There are, unfortunately,
those who micro manage as a result of deeper personality issues. This scenario isn t really at all about
managing it s about control. These supervisors have a need to constantly reaffirm their superior
position. Some even go so far as to undermine employees or situations to assuage their insecurities.
This type of micromanaging can manifest as subtle or extreme, either way, differentiating it from the
first two examples is important for formulating an appropriate response. If you think you might be
dealing with this type of manager, the previously mentioned strategies most likely will backfire. Any
attempts to reason will probably only

The World Theory, And This Term Basically Means
In the textbook, it mentions of a term called Carpentered World Theory and this term basically means
that it is a perception about how individual s at least most American individuals see things that are
shaped in a form of a rectangle unconsciously (Juang Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). As for the
lecture notes, it mentions how our culture is used to seeing objects in a rectangle shape (Lecture
notes). Thus is true, we see rectangle shapes all the time while driving from place to place. For
example would be the rectangle shape highway signs that we notice while driving past them. Another
example would be the signs that say do not turn right on red; these signs are in the form of a rectangle.

In regards to the Mueller Lyer illusion, the textbook mentions how Rivers stated that most English saw
the two lines more differently than any other cultural groups such as India or New Guinea (Juang
Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). I decided to try an experiment with the Mueller Lyer Illusion. I
decided to ask 3 close friends of mine that are typical Americans. All but one was fooled by this
illusion. Then, I decided to ask 3 friends of mine that are from a different culture, one of them lives in
Australia, one is Korean and one was Native American. My friend who lives in Australia was fooled
by this illusion, whereas the Korean and Native American friend of mine stated it was the same length
but the arrows were oppositely flipped. I thought this was extremely interesting how each culture was
either fooled or not fooled by this illusion. This proves to show that cultures could in fact view optical
illusions differently because of either how they were raised or how they see the world in a different
light than others in views on how they interpret objects. In regards to the recognition of objects within
a visual scene there are uniquely clear differences between Americans and Japanese individuals.
According to the textbook, it mentions how Masuda and Nisbett (2001) did a research study that asked
Japanese and Americans to view an animated scene and then to recall how many objects were within
that scene and how they found that there was

Summary Of Lizabeth In Marigolds
Closely observing a character gives the readers a chance to truly understand them , their thoughts and
their points points of views. The actions that Lizabeth takes are things that need to be closely
examined to comprehend the complexity of Lizabeth s behaviors. Lizabeth, the protagonist from the
short story Marigolds by Eugenia Collier portrays unique characteristics such as being resilient,
addled and compassionate. Collier provides an ample amount of evidence that shows Lizabeth is full
of resilience. Lizabeth grew up in a life full of poverty and had conflicts arising in almost each
moment, one problem after another. Lizabeth remembers her childhood as being Sorrowful

the rest of her small community had to find a way to overcome all the conflicts that they found
themselves in by being resilient and not giving up. To overcome all these hardships, Lizabeth gained a
grand quality, resilience. Lizabeth states, Poverty was the cage in which we all were trapped, and our

Hyperventilation Lab Report
Discussion
Results obtained from the experiment were consistent with the hypothesis and expected values. The
alternative hypothesis is accepted. Manipulated ventilation patterns altered the alveolar gas
compositions. Alveolar partial pressure of O2 and CO2 baseline values of normal breathing was
recorded as 108.06mmHg and 42.51mmHg respectively.
When the subject was instructed to breath hold after normal breathing results obtained showed a
significant decrease in pO2 (p=7.11e 20) and significant increase in pCO2 (p=8.06e. 16). An increased
level of carbon dioxide is called hypercarpnia. When inactive tissue isn t in demand for oxygen, the

broke their breath hold was at pO2; 80mmHg and 60mmHg respectively. This value is significant

different when the subjects broke breath hold. Oxygen levels have not decreased to the trigger values
so chemoreceptors would not have been a driving force for the subject to breath normally.

Testing Reaction Times of Local and Global Perception Essay
Global and Local Processing in Visual Perception
Abstract
This study examined visual perception and the rates at which global and local features are reacted to
with an aim of replicating and validating a previous experiment conducted by Navon (1977) to see if
global processing was faster than local processing. There was 222 University of Newcastle students
participating in the experiment, partaking in two phases, one centred round global processing, the
other around local processing, where there reaction times were recorded using a computer program
and imputed into a data worksheet. Results indicated that, as predicted, global processing occurred at a

It was therefore hypothesised that the reaction times for global judgments would be faster than the
reaction times of local judgments. It was also hypothesised that consistent stimuli would be faster than
conflicting stimuli in the local tasks.
Method
Participants
The sample for this study consisted of 222 participants who were second year psychology students
from the University of Newcastle. All students were participating as part of a course requirement and
all had given their consent to participating in the study.
Design
The independent variables consisted of 3 consistency types (contingent, neutral and conflicting
displays). The dependant variable was the reaction time of participants.
Apparatus
A computerised program SuperLab Pro and a keyboard was required in order to record reaction times.
Stimuli
In the first phase of this study that was based around recognising global features, the letters used were
large H s or S s. In the second phase, global letters of H, S and O were used and were made up of
smaller H s or S s, the local characters. These make up the 3 stimulus types: congruent, neutral and
conflicting. The large and small letters could be combined to create 3 types of displays: 1) Consistent,
where the large and small letters were the same (H printed from small H s, or S made of small S s). 2)
Conflicting (H made of small S s, S made of small H s), and 3) Neutral (H made of O s, S made of

U.s. Securities And Exchange
The U.S. Securities and Exchange (SEC) was created in response to the 1929 stock market crash

Additional laws and regulations have been added as a result in condition or incident within the stock

Costs are not only measured with the effects of the economy in mind, they are measured in how they
will affect people and their future.
The cost of under regulation can be detrimental to the future of securities. As our nation s securities
exchanges mature into global for profit competitors, there is even greater need for sound market
regulation. And the common interest of all Americans in a growing economy that produces jobs,
improves our standard of living, and protects the value of our savings means that all of the SEC s
actions must be taken with an eye toward promoting the capital formation that is necessary to sustain
economic growth. (www.sec.gov, n.d.) This statement, part of the SEC introduction, describes the
monumental task to regulate and manage investments for everyone. Costs associated with under
regulation can be measured in billions of dollars lost over the past decade in businesses such as Enron,
Tyco International, WorldCom, and many others. These corporations misused laws and regulations by
inflating earnings and bad corporate accounting practices. The cost to investors was in the billions of
dollars and led to onset of laws to include Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, Dodd Frank Wall Street

all these laws were enacted to protect investors, some controversies arose outlining second and third

Analysis Of Prufrock s A Good Boy
The District court improperly granted summary judgment as a reasonable jury could find that Prufrock
suffered a tangible detriment when he was denied tutoring and received the worst English grade of his
college career after he rejected Professor Crewel s offer to take care of things for him if he was a good
boy .(Prufrock Dep. 4:5 24, June 1, 2014.)To determine whether plaintiff suffered a tangible
detriment, courts consider whether 1) plaintiff suffered a material loss and 2) the loss resulted from
plaintiff s rejection of advances. See e.g., Johnson v. Galen Health Insts., Inc., 267 F. Supp. 2d 679,
684 (W.D. Ky. 2003).
Courts have defined a material loss as an adverse change to a crucial aspect of the employment or
educational experience. See e.g., Bowman v. Shawnee, 220 F.3d 456, 461 462 (6th Cir. 2000);
Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In the educational context, courts have found that a jury could find a
tangible detriment to be a loss of course credit, evaluations, grades and recommendations. Johnson
267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In Johnson the court held that a reasonable jury could find that the plaintiff
suffered a material loss where she failed the course as receiving credit was a crucial aspect of her
education. Id. Similarly, in Petrone v. Cleveland the court noted that recommendations and evaluations
were material components of education. 993 F. Supp. 1119, 1129 (N.D. Ohio 1998).

Personal Health Improvement Plan
Personal Health Improvement Plan Background In early January of 2016, I embarked on a new
challenge to improve my overall health. Looking back in the past 4 years, I know that I have always
found myself happiest when I was regularly exercising. Exercising decreased my anxiety and
depression and overall I was in a great mood. The idea behind setting up this challenge was that I
wanted to challenge myself to get to my old self, where I had an overall positive energy. I set a goal
that in the next 4 months, I wanted to lose 10 pounds. The pounds was a measurement to see about the
intensity of the workout, so I wanted to challenge myself a little bit more than just going out for runs.
Since I know that medical school is a very busy place, I figure that I would be able commit to run at
least 5 days per week. Methods I would lose 10 pounds by running at least 5 times per week. The
progress and the success of this goal would be measured based on how much weight I lose as I get
toward the end of the 4 months time period. This was an attainable goal, since I have had previous
experience in running. Running is important to me because overall it improves not just my weight but

Comparing Ilúvatar In The Silmarillion And Lord Of The Rings
In Tolkien s book The Silmarillion, the themes of Ilúvatar are reminiscent throughout the Lord of the

instrument that is off tune in an orchestra; at first the one instruments sound may stand out, but
overtime it would be overwhelmed and drowned out by the rest of the orchestra. Those who create
discord in Ilúvatar s themes are given opportunity to return to good before they become separated
from him (or become evil). In Tolkien s work, evil is given the upper hand and is more powerful than
the forces of good. This is evident in both Melkor s and Saruman s stories. Evil characters in the

To Kill A Mockingbird And Mississippi Burning Analysis
To Kill a Mockingbird , written by Harper Lee and Mississippi Burning directed Alan Parker can be
compared and contrasted with each other. Both texts share many themes especially the theme of
prejudice where one group of people had bigoted views against another. It is shown in the form of
racism throughout the two stories where whites discriminate the blacks. In the town of Maycomb and
Mississippi, there is bias, discrimination and injustice between the blacks and whites. Both Harper Lee
and Alan Parker explore this theme of prejudice through what their characters stand for, the events that
took place during both text and the context behind both stories.
Atticus and Mr Ward are dedicated to supporting people who are subjected to racism. Atticus and Mr
Ward and Mr Anderson stand for the justice of blacks. Atticus defends Tom Robinson, a black man, to
try to prove him innocent even though people call him a nigger lover and also has the disadvantage in
the trial. The only thing we ve got is a black man s word against the Ewells... The jury couldn t
possibly be expected to take Tom Robinson s word against the Ewells. With the odds against him,
Atticus still persist in giving Tom Robinson the fair trial he deserves. Mr Ward is also the same, he
believe in justice for all. You don t have the guts. (Anderson)... Not only do I HAVE the guts, I have
the AUTHORITY! (Ward). Mr Ward was willing to change his own ways to help the black people of
Mississippi. They both made a significant attempt to give the black people of Maycomb and
Mississippi justice, they both had to overcome hardships to do what they believed what was right.
Furthermore, both text have events that are similar which explore the theme of prejudice. In both
stories there are two court scenes one where Tom Robinson is trial for the rape of Mayella Ewell and
the other was where a groups of white men are trialled for bombing a black man s house. In this
country, courts are the great levellers and in our courts all men are created equal. However Tom
Robinson was innocent but only could get another trial and the white men were guilty but had their
sentence suspended. In our courts when it s a white man s word against a black man s the white man

involucramiento de todos en todos los proyectos. El mayor número de producciones, podría pasarles la

Demonstrative Speech on Making a Peanut Butter and Jelly...
This is my attempt on a demonstrative type of speech. Hello to everyone and welcome to the forum
this evening. Tonight we are going to be talking about how to make the perfect peanut butter and jelly
sandwich. I know, it has been done many times but you know what, its fun and delicious. Before we
start making this sandwich, please make sure you are in the kitchen, we don t want anything ending up
in a toilet or even on Moms brand new sofa. You can take your choice of where you want to be in the

their fat, use the cupped part of the spoon to get a tablespoon of peanut butter out and smear this on
the bread, it will stick to the spoon so you may need to use your finger to get the rest of the peanut

For those who really don t care how much goes on the bread, pick up the butter knife, dip it in the
peanut butter and pull out as much as you would like and smear it on the bread also. Now with the flat
part of the spoon and the flat edge of the knife, smear that peanut butter around so that all the bread is
covered, keep spreading out, great! Now lets put the spoons and knives down, pick up the top to the
peanut butter and put the top back on the jar, I believe this time it is turning it right, just tighten it on
down. Now we are going to grab our jar of jelly, for me it is sugar free strawberry jam, but for anyone
else, whatever it was that you preferred. Once again, open the jar of jelly and set the lid on the table.
This step is done exactly like it was done with the peanut butter, grab wither your knife or spoon and
pull out the jelly, now jelly can be a bit tricky and

It was caused by the bursting of an $8,000,000,000,000 housing bubble. A housing bubble is caused by a substantial increase in real estate property values to an unsustainable level until a limit is reached where the market collapses. This meant that many people couldn t afford to buy food and clothes, and had to sell their belongings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The church had power over the people, over other people s money and even other people s lives. However, during the time period of 1300 to 1789 the church s power declined by a significant amount. A number of things happened that decreased the church s power during the time period of 1300 to 1789, but the Protestant reformation and the Scientific Revolution had weakened the role of the church the most. Therefor Darwin s theory had proven such an important story of the church incorrect and people began to follow science more than religion, thus weakening the role of the church in Europe. Astronomy had weakened the role of the church by showing that humans are not are not praised by God as we thought. People used to believe that Earth was the center of the universe and everything evolved around us in perfect circles showing that we are important because we are God s creation. The church agreed with this and condemned any other ideas Both Protestant and Catholic religious leaders condemned the work because it was contrary to traditional teachings (Watts). Nicolaus Copernicus had founded the heliocentric system where everything had evolved around the sun, not the earth and that it was not in perfect circles. The heliocentric solar system had weakened the church by showing that God did not make his creation the great center of the universe and not everything in space is perfect. The biggest reason on how science decreases the role of the church is by proof. Science isn t something we just believe in like religion, it s something we need to prove. Banjo uses imagery and the first person point of view to help the reader imagine what it would be like to be a drover. The person living in the city imagines what Clancy the drover is doing and feeling while he is stuck in a hot office all day. As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing and also He sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars. The city living character is conveying what Clancy the drover is doing and how peaceful it would be if he could do the same. He also says And I somehow fancy that I d like to change with Clancy. This suggests that the city living character is somewhat jealous of Clancy, his job and his lifestyle. To a person in the western world in the 1920 s they would believe that this is how they live, dress and how they survive in day to day situations. In fact, what Flaherty filmed, was scripted and the Inuit family we follow were not actually family. Flaherty also decided to have the Inuit people dressed as they would previously in history, where as they were dressing like western world civilisation in the 1920 s. This could have been due to wanting to make the Inuit s come across as a new and exotic civilisation, compared to the ordinary people. • 13. The World Is Not A New Way Of Thinking Essay The world can only appear monochromatic to those who persist in interpreting what they experience through the lens of a single cultural paradigm, their own (Davis 6). Growing up in a twenty first century western culture society has created an ethnocentrism view of the cultures that created the world into what it is today. This thought of western society as being ethnocentric is not a new way of thinking. In fact, the world has been practicing the act of viewing one s own culture as superior to that of another for hundreds of centuries, if not even longer. We raise our children on stories of ethnocentrism, maybe not the far extreme views and acts of it, but the idea that the first Americans came to the new world and ate with the native tribes, which would only be the first act of a ballad that would end with only 1.7 percent of the American population being of full native American decent. Wade Davis goes even further in a view of ethnocentrism for the world. He skips past the well known stories and express new knowledge of stories never heard before to many Western society cultures. This is especially true of male characters whose qualities are often shaped around anger and aggression. We can see individuals across genres shown with repeated motivations, actions, and appearances. These depictions delve even further into stereotyping when we begin to examine characters who are also people of color. The media often depicts people of color in tropes based on their racial and ethnic identities, and these tropes are usually offensive and demeaning. • 17. The Statement Of Purpose Of The Bean Plant Experiment Statement of Purpose For my independent project I performed the Bean Plant Experiment. I originally wanted to know whether artificial light worked as well as or better than natural light for growing a bean plant. I was asking this question because I believe that natural light works better to help a plant grow taller than artificial light does. Since I believed that natural light works better overall, by doing the Bean Plant Experiment I could determine the answer to my question. Hypothesis The hypothesis that is looking to be proved, if a bean plant is exposed to eight hours of natural light per day, then it s rate of growth will be higher than a bean plant exposed to eight hours of artificial sunlight per day. Background Before beginning the Bean Plant Experiment I had to gather many different materials to be able to carry it out. I had to obtain six of the same kind and relatively the same size, of bean seeds as well as two, small, four inch clay pots. I also used the graduated cylinder that was in the lab kit that I purchased at the beginning of the year for this class. I also had to get soil. For my soil I chose Miracle Gro potting soil because that is what my mom uses for her flowers. Another item that I needed was a ruler with millimeters on it so I could measure the height of each plant everyday. The last thing on my list of materials was a piece of graph paper and a pencil. Next I had to set up my work space to provide myself with the most accurate results. I cleared off a window seal in my house that sets on the south side of my house where the sun would best hit the plant. I then cleared out a spot in my brothers closet for the second plant, which would work better than mine would have considering he never goes in his closet. Something else that probably wasn t necessary but helped in the long run was I set out all of my equipment so it wouldn t be such a hassle and I wouldn t have to worry about not being able to find everything. Experimental Method To begin my experiment I first took the two four inch clay pots and put two scoops of Miracle Gro soil into both of the pots. There was 222 University of Newcastle students participating in the experiment, partaking in two phases, one centred round global processing, the other around local processing, where there reaction times were recorded using a computer program and imputed into a data worksheet.
