Composers Of Jazz In The 1920 s
Composers Of Jazz Jazz was an important time in the 1920s. Some of the major contributors to jazz
are Jelly Roll Morton, Joe King Oliver, Sidney Bichet , Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They
have some similarities and differences in their early career, in their end career, and how they
contributed to jazz. They all though played an important part in making jazz popular. They all started
from somewhere. Duke Ellington was born into a middle class black family in Washington D.C. While
Louis Armstrong was born in a poor family in New Orleans. A lot of the jazz musicians got
discriminated against because of their race. Many white people at the time didn t like jazz because of
their race. Duke Ellington though sounded like he was white,

Aircraft Maintenance Practices
Aircraft is parked on an airport as soon as it lands for loading and unloading of passengers and other
services. Since the pilot cannot estimate the distances from other aircraft or obstructions, there has to
be a crew to assist the pilot when parking for security which is carried out via hand signals called
marshalling. Aircraft marshalling is a visual way of ground crew to communicate with the pilot by
utilizing bats or lighted wands, depending upon the time either day or night. Aircraft Marshallers are
required to wear bright surcoat or vest to be well distinguished by the pilot. First thing that the
Marshallers should do when aircraft has landed, they should let the pilot know that they are the in

Summary Of Animalistic Desire By D. H. Lawrence
D.H Lawrence s ideas of love and interpersonal attraction are nothing if not polarizing. His distillation
of love to an animalistic desire can be seen as either the height or death of romanticism. One may
argue that such uncontrollable hormonal puppeteering undermines the human element of restraint or a
more noble idea of love as unique companionship. In a sense, Lawrence challenges the notion of
separation between and the beasts; he suggests the protestant fueled traditions of courtship are not a
sign of human elevation, but a convolution of instinct that is as primal as the lust of thirst. However,
Lawrence may also represent the life of romanticism, shaping such animal drive into the current of a
more galvanistic construct of romance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early conflict, before grandiose confrontations of love, is found when Dr. Fergusson considers the
contradictions he feels for the town he works and lives in. Walking through the dreary countryside he
muses:
It wore him out, but at the same time he had a craving for it. It was a stimulant to him to be in the
homes of the working people, moving as it were through the innermost body of their life. His nerves
were excited and gratified. He could come so near, into the very lives of the rough, inarticulate,
powerfully emotional men and women. He grumbled, he said he hated the hellish hole. But as a matter
of fact it excited him, the contact with the rough, strongly feeling people was a stimulant applied
direct to his nerves. (237)
His love hate relationship stems from two conflicting inner personalities. The first Fergusson is a man
of medicine, sophisticated and reasonable. He is repulsed by downtrodden town, seeing it as the
antithesis of all that his education represents. The second man is a reaction to the discipline and
restraint required to create the first emotional, craving excitement, and attracted to the simplicity and
assertiveness of uneducated people. The conflicts between the doctor s opposing sides are soon
mirrored in his blooming, although sudden, romance. Initially, the logical side of Dr. Fergusson views
Mabel as simply his friend s sister, willing to strike up polite conversation, yet hesitant at her
dangerous eyes that always

What is management..?
Management plays a vital role in developing and promoting success to any business. There are various
definitions for management by different scholars. According to Henri Fayol (1841 1925),
Management is to forecast and to plan, to organise, to command, to co ordinate and to control (Iim
edu.org, 2016). According to Lawrence AAppley, Management is the development of people and not
the direction of things (HubPages, 2016).

Subject Identification And Enrollment For Alzheimer s...
Subject identification and enrollment Subjects recruited for this study consisted of individuals aged 60
to 85, with 10 or more years of education or more. Those diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease (AD)
and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) were recruited to the study at the Memory Clinic of the Jewish
General Hospital (JGH) in Montréal, and normal community elderly volunteers were recruited through
advertising. Subjects received standardized clinical, mental status, neuropsychological, and cognitive
evaluation. Depression was excluded via the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale (Geriatric
Depression scale 15) [37]. None had evidence of cerebral infarct on CT, and all subjects scored less
than 4 on the Hachinski ischemic scale [38]. No individuals had evidence of significant heart disease,
alcoholism, or drug use and all showed normal routine blood work. Subjects were classified as normal
if they lacked subjective memory complaints, and scored at or above 26 on the Montreal Cognitive
Assessment test [39], and scored above 25 on the Folstein Mini mental state exam (MMSE) [40].
Their average MoCA score was 27 (range 25 29). The AD patients received the diagnosis of mild,
moderate, or severe probable AD according to standard clinical criteria [41]. They had mild, moderate,
or severe probable AD [42], scored below 26 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test [39], scored
between 4 and 25 on the Folstein Mini mental state exam (MMSE) [40], and showed

Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for
student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential
questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the
standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the
learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson
and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units,
and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27).
When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a
way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards
planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the
learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is
clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010)
explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about
the evidence that will show

Presentation Of A Banquet Server
It has been one year since I started to be a banquet server. The experience of working as a banquet
server has helped me to appreciate people hard work around the tables serving their clients without
complaining their exhaustion. According to Christa Titus, the author of The Definition of a Banquet
Server, A banquet server is a person who serves food and beverages to guests at an event. The servers
work at many special events such as graduation ceremony or wedding feast. Some of their duties are
serving the ordered dishes, cleaning up the leftovers and assisting guests with their menu items. From
my observation, this career is a low class job which pays a little amount of money for the life expenses
alone. The workers are paid by hour but the wages in each country are varied. I am a student so my
pocket is always empty, and in order to survive in the high cost city, I was desperate to get an income.
One of my friends suggested to me to go to the working board where the local businesses owner
posted the news that they were accepting new workers. There were lots of advertisements when I took
a short look on the board but just one that attracted me: the beautiful poster of a wedding dress looking
for new servers. The poster explained about the available weekend job with the telephone number and
office address for the interview. I was more interested on the poster than working as a banquet server
but in the end, I applied for the job because I need the money to pay my

Ethical Dilemmas in the Nursing Field
There are several dilemmas in the nursing field though nurses reactions to ethical dilemmas are based
on their individual values and beliefs as well as ethical principles, professional codes and the climate
of the healthcare setting. Nurses encounter ethical dilemmas when conflicting values and judgments
are present regarding what is the best course of patient care. Ethical dilemmas are faced by nurses on a
daily bases. I am choosing two of these dilemmas to address.
1. Empirical Knowledge vs. Personal Beliefs:
Empirical knowledge is the type of knowledge that includes empirical research, scientific enquiry,
reductionism and positivism, it is often viewed as true or valid knowledge that can be theoretically
explained by scientific traditional ideas like psychology, pharmacology, sociology and biology or by
rigorous empirical testing which include knowledge from books, journals and conferences.
Example: If a patient is diagnosed with cancer the nurse has a simple list of description like
observations, tables of evidence, graphs, empirical hypothesis, empirical definitions, generalizations,
and scientific laws with no personal knowledge to help the patient understand.
Personal Knowledge: This concerns being self aware, it does not emanate from books, journals,
lectures or conferences it refers to the fact that w e know more than we say (Polyani 1966) or
understanding without rationale (Benner and Tanner 1987). Itr can be as valid as scientific knowledge
and nurses can

Which Two Employees Should Be Laid Off
Team five collaborated over the past week to deliberate on a decision to decide which two employees
would be laid off. All of the team members contributed their opinions and decisions on which
employees should be laid off. Each member chose who they felt would benefit the company most to
layoff and shared it with the rest of the group. Unlike firing an employee, a layoff is no fault of the
employees being let go. The financial state of the company is the underlying cause of layoffs (FROST,
2017). I know speaking for myself I had changed my choice multiple times after reviewing with the
other members. Though there was not a majority on which two employees should be laid off, there
were multiple duplicate names that appeared by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decision may be based on seniority, job performance, or the position with the organization
(VERHULST, 2013). It is critical that decisions are made carefully and critically thought through
because the decisions to let go an employee can have a ripple effect on the entire company. The
decision I made in this assignment was impacted by several areas including educational level,
employee evaluations, contributions to the company and tenure.
Regarding the layoffs at the company, my first choice regarding an employee the company would
considering letting go would be Gabriella Santana. Reviewing Gabriella s work history with the
company has revealed she has had multiple lawsuits against the company and won. Though this may
seem intimidating and create the fear she may sue again you cannot allow that to interfere when
making a decision. The company must take into consideration that she has only been here for 5 years
compared to Donavan and Matthew. So, just alone she has less time invested in the company.
Additionally, her evaluations have only been rated good to above average. Further review did not
determine that she has contributed anything significant to the company.
Mallorie Shields is my second choice to let go. The weighing factor would be her tenure seeing that
she has been with the company the lease amount of time. An additional review determined that she
also has not contributed anything significant to the

Forgiving Yourself
According to dictionary.com, Forgive means to cease to feel resentment against. This one word is
what many people struggle with. People have a hard time forgiving other people but more often
themselves. Amir knows just how hard it is to forgive yourself in The Kite Runner by Khaled
Hosseini. When Amir makes the decision to not speak up about Hassan he felt so much guilt that he
wanted Hassan and Ali to leave, he regretted it instantly. Years later, Rahim khan called Amir and
asked him to come back to Afghanistan where he found out Hassan was his half brother. Amir finally
forgave himself when he found a way to make up for his mistakes. Hosseini portrays Amir as a
morally ambiguous character by his guilt and inability to forgive himself for what he did to Hassan.
Morally ambiguous characters become challenged by a dilemma that will test their mental strength.
Amir s choice to not speak up about what happened shows his betrayal to his friendship with Hassan.
Hosseini displays Amir as Morally ambiguous when Ali asks did something happen to him, Amir
Agha? Something he s not telling me? [Amir] shrugged. How should I know ( Hosseini 81).While
Amir is saying he doesn t know, he is internally arguing with himself about if he should say something
or not. Amir knows telling Ali would solve many problems, but he doesn t want Baba to be
disappointed in him. Morally ambiguous characters blur the

Anth 338 Research Paper
Prof. Bodoh Creed
Anth 338 Section 1
February 27, 2012
On an ordinary Saturday afternoon, my sister and I made our way to 1st St. and Central Ave. from a
failed attempt at another left to be unnamed cultural epicenter, which was a very disappointing trip.
Little Tokyo proved to be quite the opposite, as I was able to ascertain a much deeper understanding of
the Japanese culture because of it, and at the same time was able to reflect on the differences and
similarities of my Filipino heritage. From what I was able to gather, the Japanese and Filipino cultures
have quite a few significant differences, but have more similarities than I originally anticipated.
As the name would suggest, Little Tokyo is fairly little, with its borders ... Show more content on

The Nisei, meaning a 2nd generation Japanese American, started the week long festivity over 60 years
ago to celebrate their pride in being both Japanese and American in Little Tokyo. With the exception
of Nisei Week, many of these events emulate the kinds of activities Japanese would observe in their
homeland. The store employee told me that many small parts of Japan have its own festival. In my
city, we have a fireworks festival like every year , she said. It seems these festivities serve as a
reminder of Japanese heritage in a country inclined towards American values. According to the
Japanese American student, Little Tokyo does not resemble any specific place or region in Japan, it
merely creates a general feel of the culture.
For the most part, traditional cultural values and constructions are strongly honored among the people
of Little Tokyo and those living in Japan. For example, many of the people I spoke to maintained
monogamous relationships and grew up in homes where it was highly valued. Moreover, divorce is
uncommon for these relationships, unlike here in America where divorce rates are exceptionally high.
It likely has something to do with the way the Japanese people present themselves out in the public
sphere. The store owner told me the Japanese are very mindful of appearances, and how people would
think of you because of it. Certain things like divorce may in turn cause

Theodicy And Suffering
Many of us question why we live in a universe full of sin and evil? We question if our god is good
why is our natural world filled with suffering, violence and destruction? This is where the theodicy
problem comes into play, Theodicy is an attempt to explain why a good god would have created evil
and suffering. Atheists don t believe in God for this matter, since evil exists they assume God must
not. I believe that we were all blessed with the ability to choose and we can still make our own
choices. What God did was he created mankind with free will, it can t be logical for a man to remain
sin free when they are making their own choices. So we can make our choices moral, immoral, or
amoral. Immoral acts result in evil, if God intervened it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had to search this question because I am too wondering why good people suffer and why bad people
don t seem to. I came across an article and it basically explained that our Lord clearly taught that his
blessings should fall upon all people regardless of the evil they commit. And it later explained that we
often only witness and know of the good that happen to bad people rather than the entire situation. We
don t entirely know what the person has been dealt with. For example, I sometimes question those
who don t have money problems. I always thought to myself they are so blessed to not have money
issues and there life is probably less stressful and they don t know what its like to struggle. What we
would give right? Well I started to notice that most people with money were miserable. They had
problems in other departments such as commitment, relationships and family. We aren t all blessed
with the same things. God s blessings apply to all people. So we need to stop questioning why bad
things happen to good people? God has a plan and Instead of questioning God s fairness or justice, we
are called to trust in His love and ultimate justice. Those who are persecuted or reviled for their faith
in God in this life are considered blessed (Matthew 5:11 12) yet the reward in eternity will be great.
(CT) We are all blessed to live through our Lord Jesus Christ, and his eternity far outweighs any
situation that is unfair or unjust in this

Good communication skills are imperative for organizations to carry out in an attempt to maintain
outstanding performance from employees and management. Every workplace is unique in terms of
their diversity profile therefore, is it vital for organization to create and execute creative
communication methodologies that will enable organizations to develop a community rather than just

Secondly, building and maintaining effective teams is a time consuming and sensitive process
particularly in business. Research shows there are a number of key reasons why team building fails...
They include the inability of the team or the organization to establish clear goals... the inability by the
team to clearly define its own roles within the team, and poor leadership of the team or the
organization (Wildblood, 2005). FACS Group Inc is an organization that is structured on team
building and working as a team. For example, the management team or leaders work on three different
levels. First, a group of associates are assigned, as a team, to a supervisor. Secondly, each supervisor
along with his or her teams is managed under an assigned manager. Lastly, each management team
reports to the director of the department. Through this process, effective team building and
interpersonal communication, allows FACS Group Inc the opportunity to further develop and become
more competitive. In addition, FACS Group Inc collectively intentionally create team based structures
which require individuals to be more adaptable and form or re form work relationships quickly and
smoothly (Prager, 1999).
The methodology of effective team building is best explained through organizational models,
communication and result oriented processes. For example, organizations my chose to use different

Abstract In today s society, the international trading constitutes an increasingly significant portion of
the world economy than ever before. Having opened more subsidiaries in different countries and
invested in foreign markets, companies and investors are more exposed to problems reading
accounting records and auditing reports composed under different accounting principles. To better
understand the reason behind the accounting diversity, we need to dig into countries different cultural
background which imposes great influence on formation of accounting and auditing principles and
ways people practice. This paper will analyze how culture affects financial reporting and auditing with
the support of classic culture theories and facts. Introduction International accounting, a term given
birth by modern society, is a concept which encompasses all function areas of various accounting
principles and practices followed by every nation in the world. The international accounting consists
of three different levels. First level is the supranational level which signifies principles, standards and
guidelines of accounting, auditing and taxation issued by supranational organizations such as UN,
OECD and IFA (International accounting, Timothy and Hector, 2011, P1). The second level is the
company level which denotes the principles and techniques that people follow to report transactions

The Right And Bear Arms
Christal Blege
April 23, 2015
Professor Swint.
The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most Americans
would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or discharged a gun.
More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my family. This is why I fail
to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially military grade firearms like
assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no legitimate civilian purpose.
(Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe over the age of 21 with a permit
to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the U.S. own at least one firearm, and
of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the percentage of gun ownership has
gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do serve other purposes like protection
and safety.
When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards and
values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in our
everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest court in
the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the individual
has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control supporters use is
,with stricter gun

Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
Naturalism is a literary genre that focuses on how the role of social conditions, family background,
and the environment shape the character. Most stories are based on the idea that the environment
determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little or
no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable external
forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of naturalist
writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival. Stephen Crane
s The Open Boat is an exemplar of naturalist writing, as it shows most, if not all, of these
characteristics.
1. Determinism According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although steady, it was deep with mourning... (Crane p. 585). Though usually optimistic and upbeat,
the captain shares a couple of pessimistic thoughts while they were stranded. In section 4, the captain
says, if we don t get ashore...if we don t get ashore, I suppose you fellows know where to send news
of my finish? (Crane p. 590). The captain, the supposed leader, says these discouraging words. He also
repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic attitude. Even though pessimism is an
important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one of the key characteristics in naturalistic
literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat.
3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as nature
controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the color of the
sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them. (Crane p. 584). The
first few sentences just say that the four men can t see the sky since the waves splash into them. Crane
sets the scene of this bleak tale by giving the reader a setting that is the complete opposite of a serene,
nice, day out on the water. It shows that the crew s lives are only going to go downhill from there.
Later in section 1, Crane writes that A singular disadvantage of the sea lies in the fact that after

My plan as of right now is to go college and become an auto mechanic. I m not quite sure yet if i am

The Cocktail Waitress Analysis Essay
1. Spradley and Mann chose to do their research at Brady s bar because it is an ordinary setting where
they could study interactions between male and female. First, Brady s Bar provided a setting to define
the female role. Secondly, it is a place where both male and female interactions are important and
reflect traditional aspects of larger society. Lastly, the traditional aspects of Brady s signified the
traditional view of how women should present themselves as passive sex objects whose status is of
lower hierarchy than men. There are three ethnographical principles that guided the study at Brady s
Bar. The first principle states that Every human group creates its own reality, a shared culture (6). This

The space given to the bartenders is secluded to only them and is only, rarely, invaded with his
approval. Whereas, the space provided for the waitress s is often invaded by both the costumers and
the bartenders. Even though the space given to the customers is also where the waitress must work it is
often hard for the waitress to move through customers due to their carelessness of her presence. When
the waitress s space is invaded or when they are held back from doing their job they must always
remain passive. The last objective researched at Brady s was to determine the ways that people ask for
drinks and how these ways reflect interactions between male and female. Drinks are asked for in
several ways that often make the waitress s job much harder. In order to serve the customer to his/her
satisfaction the waitress must have knowledge of all drinks served at Brady s, be able to make
corrections on any order that is stated incorrectly, give orders to the bartender in the correct way, and
respond to interactions appropriately. Again, this objective shows that the role of the waitress is to
ensure the satisfaction of the bartender as well the customer in any given situation. The authors used
participant observation and interview to do this research. I think the method of field work that
provided the most insightful information was the method of participant observation. By

The Social Order Of France
Mary Allen Walmisley Mrs.Ginnocchio AP European History 17 December 2014 Chapter 20 Unit
Questions The social order in France was complex in the 18th century. The population was legally
divided into three social ranks, or the Estates. In the first estate was comprised of the clergy who had
privileges, some of theses privileges included not having to pay taxes and owning 10% of France s
land. In the second estate, the nobles who owned 20% of the land, also had feudal privileges, which
meant that they were exempt from taxes and had important hunting rights. Finally, the third estate
consisted of 98% of the population: the commoners, the middle class, rural workers, urban poor, and
merchants. The middle class was also known as the Bourgeoisie. The estates during this time period
no longer reflected the social reality because the middle class were expanding into the second estate.
The rising middle class actually caused tension between the social groups because they pushed for
social change and the nobles felt like they were losing power. The French monarchy lost power under
Louis XV and Louis XVI because parliaments regained the power to evaluate royal decrees, France
fell into a financial crisis, new taxes were imposed, the Seven Years War took place, Rene de
Moanupeo was instated, and the royals lost their sacred aura. Originally, the parliaments in France had
little power, but when Louis XV came to the throne they regained their right to evaluate the decrees

Full Deck Separation Plot
Not Impressive Don t be fooled by the title. This direct version of the full deck separation plot is my
favorite routine in the book. Save this for a late night session, as a finale for your formal show, or if
you just feel a need to orchestrate a miracle upon request. It s not impressive ... it s spectacular!
EFFECT: Have a card selected, then randomly placed back into the pack. Now offer the pack to an
audience member and ask for them to give it a fair riffle shuffle. Right before they shuffle, the
magician says, What I am about to do is NOT impressive. It is what YOU are going to do that is

card among the shuffled deck could be her selection. Of course, you know exactly where it is. Your
real goal is to fix the stragglers. As you scan the deck upjog two to three odd colored cards and
remove them. Look them over and decide that none of these are the spectator s card and transfer them
onto the face of the black cards. Repeat this for no more than five cards. Any more shifting of cards
and it appears you are rearranging the order and not simply making choices. Once no more errors

Response To A Midlife Crisis
Abraham Lincoln once said, In the end, it s not the years in your life that count. It s the life in your
years (BrainyQuote, 2001). Perhaps it is the lack of value people see in their own lives that cause what
is known as the midlife crisis. Could it be though that those adults who say they re experiencing a
crisis use it as an excuse to condone reckless, childish, or irresponsible behavior? An article entitled
Midlife Crisis: A Myth or a Reality in Search of a New Name? by Dr. Vivian Diller discusses whether
or not the midlife crisis exists or if it is something that replaces facing the new realities that come with
late adulthood. In her article, Dr. Diller hit high points, including: what drives someone to a midlife

Nelson Winter s Concept Of `` Inherited Strategy ``

The downfall of many successful firms can be attributed to Nelson Winter s concept of inherited
strategy .
Objective
This paper will explore and discuss a former leading company, Borders, and support this case study

1. BORDERS (Initial Case Study)
As business flourished, Borders grew ready to expand. Borders unleashed its first large superstore
model bookstore in 1985 and subsequently opened five more throughout the Midwest. The superstores
were unlike any other bookstores of the time they featured coffee bars and lounge areas to provide
customers with unique in store experiences that set Borders apart from its competitors. Needing to
manage their large inventory of books, they had an early technical advantage: a superior inventory
system that could monitor sales trends, replenish specific titles as they were sold, optimize, and even
predict, what consumers across the nation would buy. At first, the inventory management system was
based on a card stock system, but the company eventually turned the system into a sophisticated
computer software program (WSJ, 2011). This inventory management system was ahead of its time
and contributed greatly to Border s success since it streamlined shelving costs and allowed Borders
Group to offer a wider variety of titles at much lower costs than its rivals. This was a supporting
technology that would improve the features of existing products or services, and conventional
customers and the market would appreciate and adopt these technologies fast. There are also
disruptive technologies, which unlike this, challenge the current way of doing things. Products based

Compare And Contrast The Stock Market Crash Of 2008
The economy of the United States has had struggled over the course of its history. For example, in
1929, the country experienced the largest economic crash, known as Black Tuesday , ever recorded.
Investors of Wall Street traded about 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange in a single
day. Millions were lost, leaving thousands of investors jobless. When the market crashed in 2008,
many questioned if the investors had retained anything from the 1929 crash. The crash in 2008 can be
considered the 21st century s equivalent of the 1929 crash. However, the main difference between the

How Does Hardy Use Imagery In The Convergence Of The Twain
Often times in poetry, authors use metaphors and imagery to relate thematic elements in their writing
to significant components of their personal life or general human nature. Frequently, poets use their
writing as a vehicle to subtly narrate their inner struggles or personal conflicts to the audience. In the
poem The Convergence of the Twain, author Thomas Hardy introduces the harsh relationship between
human vanity and the formidable power of nature. Due to Hardy s upbringing in rural England, he
often wrote about his isolated life and the hindrance that work and religion had on his education.
According to Wikipedia, Hardy also criticized those involved in English Victorian society and the
declining status of rural men and women. The recurring themes of man s inferiority and the
worthlessness of material values in Hardy s work can be attributed to his belief that religion and
human materialism are often at the root of unhappiness and mankind s inferiority to nature. Similar to
Hardy s frustration during his childhood, author Elizabeth Bishop grew up in the early 1900s with an
unstable family while struggling to find a place of belonging in society. Prior to moving in with her
grandparents, Bishop s father passed away before she was one year of age and her mother suffered
through serious mental instability until she was admitted to an institution when Bishop turned five
years old. In Bishop s poem The Fish, the author utilizes vivid imagery to highlight the positive

Factory Farming, It Needs to Change Essay
Factory Farming, It Needs to Change! Factory farming is the process of employing abusive practices
that maximize agribusiness profits at the expense of the environment, our communities, animal
welfare, and even our health (Factory Farming). These methods are used across the United States and
have major impacts on not only those consuming the food but the environment as well. Some hold the
position that this method is inhumane and should not be allowed. However, others argue that this
process creates economically cheap food and allows food to be produced at a faster rate. Therefore,
the factory farming industry can improve its conditions in all aspects if it is reformed to successfully

While animal cruelty is the largest issue that arises from factory farming, there are also many other
problems that stem from this type of production such as environmental impacts. With this type of food
production, modern animal agriculture puts an incredible strain on natural resources like land, water,
and fossil fuel (Factory Farming). This is causing non reversible environmental damage such as
contaminating water supplies and producing mass amounts of exhaust due to production. These
practices are going unnoticed by both the government and the companies responsible. Laws and
regulations for the environment are not doing their job and need to be changed in order to save the
resources that future generations have a right to experience. The industry as a whole stand idly by as
they destroy the environment by the practices they perform. This puts a major strain on the fight
against environmental degradation by the lack of regard for conserving what is not the industries to
ruin. While the environment is currently having some major impacts, rural communities are being
equally affected. Some of the impacts that transpire from factory farming include an increase in
respiratory, neurobehavioral, and mental illness among the residents of communities next to factory
farms (Factory Farming). The mass amount production that is being done leads to exhaust fumes
being released into the environment. Another

First, since the firm has been a historic champion of barrier coating , starting producing a product
which has been characterized by the very firm as weaker and lower quality would go against the very
major message of the company and its cost effectiveness approach. This would at least put under
question mark the image of the company and its philosophy, at most render almost futile all its market
education efforts of more than a decade. Anyway, as mentioned, GAFCEL s success did not come
about as a result of creating additional market but rather of gaining a portion of market previously
occupied by Astro. It is not that the profit margins were low for the uncoated products (indeed, these
hovered around 60 70%), but the change in the product line would have been against the whole idea of
Sealed Air. And the firm had very good brand awareness and the American customer was opting for
quality and cost effectiveness.
In contrast to the American market, the emergence of new competitors on the European market
seemed to have the potential of a much more powerful impact. The European customer was not that
educated about the product and many regarded packaging supplies as expendable commodities ,
making the price in this market a key driving determinant of purchase choice. In this context, the
decision to diversify by enlarging the product line into uncoated bubble packaging material would
have a lesser effect on firm s image. Also, faced

The book Big Fish and its movie adaptation shows the importance of how different factors help to

Motifs are described as a recurring theme that has symbolic significance. Motifs are a powerful
embellishment and provide movies with a traceable pattern or a significant meeting to look for later

Big Fish consisted of the ring that Edward used to catch the fish, the Witch s eye that showed Edward
his death, the fish that Edward caught the day his son was born and the giant. An example of the
Giants significance in the movie Big Fish was when he stated, You think this town is too small for

his future relationship with the witch. Lastly, the eye is a motif for the life he didn t have and it was

The Play Beauty And The Beast By James Clemens
The James Clemens theater production, Beauty and the Beast, was an overall decent play, that had a

issues, such as audio. There were also great aspects of the play such as the actors, costumes, and
special effects. The audience could easily tell the microphones would cut off and on, and It was very
hard to ignore. Belle s doorway to her house did not look realistic, you could easily tell the door was

positive energy to the audience. Overall the lighting was fantastic and I could tell the technical
director put a lot of effort into it. Hair and Makeup, I thought Madame De La Bouche had the best hair

Masculinity In Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is a classic American movie that attempts to subvert the hegemon of American
masculinity. In Gump s simplified southern world, gender roles and expectations are very cut and dry,
Gump attempts to turn the patriarchy on its head through the relationships he makes, but still falls
victim to masculine expectations. Gump challenges our idea of masculinity by respecting people of
various backgrounds and races, falling in love with Jenny, and becoming a respected solider of the
United States Army. White men in the Jim Crow south were expected to have prejudices, and react
violently when someone does not fall on line these expectations. Gump and Bubba have an unusual

these methods could be effective for evaluating this position. Both of these methods are based on the

Religious Tolerance In Medieval Spain
In a post September 11th broadcast, Osama bin Laden s deputy describes the intermingling of various
religions as the tragedy of al Andalus. This reference highlights the overly romanticized
characterization of religious tolerance in medieval Spain. Aptly known as La Convivencia, the
coexistence in English, this period is noted by as a time of flourishing social, cultural, and economic
advancement for the major religious groups residing in Spain. Although true in many ways, the notion
that it was a time of extreme tolerance is a severe exaggeration, as is seen by the mistreatment and

In ORNAMENT OF THE WORLD, María Rosa Menocal supports the idea of religious tolerance,
stating It was there the profoundly Arabized Jews rediscovered and reinvented Hebrew; there that
Christians embraced nearly every aspect of Arabic style. (chapter 1) This is problematic for a number
of reasons. First, that it is an overarching and simplified assessment of the situatuion. Menocal proves
this point by highlighting events such as the massacre of Jews in Grenada in 1066 by a mob of Muslim
individuals. This contradiction shows that given that such incidences were still taking place, Andalusia
was by no means a utopia of religious intolerance, and some attitude of discrimination or tension
existed amongst the cohabiting groups. Even if you do believe that these groups were coexisting at a
more tolerant level, there are several concessions that Menocal fails to make that are essential in terms
of scholarly analysis. The first being that even if certain actions such as taxation and differing clothing
for non Islamic peoples should be viewed only within the confines of limited social and symbolic
actions rather than as systematic discrimination, is this still perhaps an effort on the part of the Islamic
governing body to make assimilation more enticing? Just as in Hellenistic cities special privileges
were meant to encourage non Hellenistic groups to assimilate to their conquerers culture, is this not
the same in many ways? Regardless, how can such actions not directly be seen as discrimination or an
attempt to encourage assimilation by incentivizing conversion? It is clearly evident from first person
accounts and laws from the period that groups were in face

Socrates Unexamined Life
As a perfectionist, I grew up ignoring my imperfections, mistakes, and failures. I didn t just want
perfection: I needed it. A red slash on a test or a mistake marked an absolute failure. Because I hid
from past mistakes, I never learned from them, making me incapable of growth. I excused my
mistakes and humbly boasted my overall score. I convinced myself that I never actually made a
mistake, so I never learned the information that I had previously missed, thus leading to more errors to
hide. Finally, after years of insisting upon infallibility, I realized it was a problem. Consequently, I
chose to answer the question What s wrong with being wrong? for a project sophomore year. After
months of research on historical leaders, I finally concluded that mistakes and failures are
opportunities to learn and improve. Without error, you will never recognize a need for change and
therefore, you will never improve. Socrates was correct in saying The unexamined life is not worth

happier life. Many argue that an unhappy life is not worth living, providing further support to Socrates
notion. Additionally, Karl Marx concluded that socialism would bring the end of history because there
would be no more struggle, which is what prompted the progression of history. Hence, without need

Anorexia Nervosa And Its Effects On Society
Millions of people are currently suffering from Anorexia. Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder in
which people suffering drastically restrict food intake due to an intense fear of gaining weight and a
distorted body image. There has been an unfortunate increase in people suffering from Anorexia
Nervosa over the past several decades. Anorexia can be caused by a combination of social,
interpersonal, and psychological factors that must be resolved through treatment. Anorexia is an
extremely dangerous disorder that results in death for many people if not treated. Anorexia Nervosa
can occur at any point in life, but is most common in men and women ages twelve through twenty
five. However, anorexia is more commonly found in young women and girls than males (). Unhealthy
or odd weight management behaviors are particularly common in teens and adolescents. One study
found that Over one half of teenage girls and nearly one third of teenage boys use unhealthy weight
control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting, smoking cigarettes, vomiting, and taking laxatives
(Neumark Sztainer, 2005). Unfortunately for many teens, these unhealthy behaviors can develop into
something more and eventually lead to anorexia or other eating disorders. Adolescents at this age and
time in their lives are becoming more aware of their body image and comparing themselves to others.
Many adolescents are so obsessive over their body image that they look to restricting food as a way of
controlling

Massachusetts Estate Abatement
When an executor realizes the estate lacks the assets to meet estate obligations, including bequests, an
abatement process occurs. The abatement process allows for the distribution of limited assets which
results in reducing or eliminating bequests to beneficiaries. Basically, abatement involuntarily reduces
or eliminates a beneficiary s share of an estate to allow for payment of some obligations.
Initially, to determine the need for abatement, the executor will build an administration plan as
described in the article The Administration Plan: A necessity for the Executor. If the plan reveals that
the estate lacks the assets to meet estate obligations, then abatement will result. Additionally, if the
will excludes abatement instructions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the common executor should defer to an attorney to handle the abatement process.
Final Facts
In full disclosure, I am not an attorney. Also, in my estate administration, abatement was never a
concern. So, this article is a simple overview of what the abatement process entails. The abatement
process is much more complicated than this article reveals. As a result, any common executor facing
abatement should defer the matter to an attorney skilled in probate law.
Furthermore, since some articles in this blog indicated that property left in a will may be sold to cover
expenses, this article reveals the process of how that happens. The executor doesn t get to pick which
beneficiary loses a bequest. The decedent or probate court makes that decision through the will or
legal statute.
Also, for the most part, the abatement process protects the executor from legal action or contests from
beneficiaries concerning abatement. If a beneficiary or creditor doesn t agree with abatement and files
a lawsuit, they will certainly lose. The same happens if a beneficiary contests the will, that beneficiary
will lose. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule and that applies to estate law as well. However,
unless there are extraordinary circumstances, the abatement process will protect

Compare And Contrast The Pilgrims And Indians
In 1620 English Pilgrims set foot on Plymouth rock in Massachusetts. The pilgrims left England
because they didn t want to go to English church. They had to cross the Atlantic Ocean just so they
could practice a different religion. The Pilgrims didn t know how to farm so they didn t have many
vegetables. One day a few men went out looking for a good place to make a colony when they saw a
group of Indians. The Indians had a man named Squanto and Squanto was the translator for the
pilgrims and the Indians. He had learned English when he was a prisoner of the English. The Indians
taught the Pilgrims how to farm and fertilize the seeds with dead fish. The Indians also helped the
Pilgrims with hunting and fishing. The Indians and Pilgrims weren t

Some of the major contributors to jazz are Jelly Roll Morton, Joe King Oliver, Sidney Bichet , Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They have some similarities and differences in their early career, in their end career, and how they contributed to jazz. They all though played an important part in making jazz popular. They all started from somewhere. Duke Ellington was born into a middle class black family in Washington D.C. While Louis Armstrong was born in a poor family in New Orleans. • 4. Summary Of Animalistic Desire By D. H. Lawrence D.H Lawrence s ideas of love and interpersonal attraction are nothing if not polarizing. His distillation of love to an animalistic desire can be seen as either the height or death of romanticism. One may argue that such uncontrollable hormonal puppeteering undermines the human element of restraint or a more noble idea of love as unique companionship. In a sense, Lawrence challenges the notion of separation between and the beasts; he suggests the protestant fueled traditions of courtship are not a sign of human elevation, but a convolution of instinct that is as primal as the lust of thirst. However, Lawrence may also represent the life of romanticism, shaping such animal drive into the current of a more galvanistic construct of romance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early conflict, before grandiose confrontations of love, is found when Dr. Fergusson considers the contradictions he feels for the town he works and lives in. Walking through the dreary countryside he muses: It wore him out, but at the same time he had a craving for it. It was a stimulant to him to be in the homes of the working people, moving as it were through the innermost body of their life. His nerves were excited and gratified. He could come so near, into the very lives of the rough, inarticulate, powerfully emotional men and women. He grumbled, he said he hated the hellish hole. But as a matter of fact it excited him, the contact with the rough, strongly feeling people was a stimulant applied direct to his nerves. (237) His love hate relationship stems from two conflicting inner personalities. The first Fergusson is a man of medicine, sophisticated and reasonable. He is repulsed by downtrodden town, seeing it as the antithesis of all that his education represents. The second man is a reaction to the discipline and restraint required to create the first emotional, craving excitement, and attracted to the simplicity and assertiveness of uneducated people. The conflicts between the doctor s opposing sides are soon mirrored in his blooming, although sudden, romance. Initially, the logical side of Dr. Fergusson views Mabel as simply his friend s sister, willing to strike up polite conversation, yet hesitant at her dangerous eyes that always ... Subject identification and enrollment Subjects recruited for this study consisted of individuals aged 60 to 85, with 10 or more years of education or more. Those diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) were recruited to the study at the Memory Clinic of the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) in Montréal, and normal community elderly volunteers were recruited through advertising. Subjects received standardized clinical, mental status, neuropsychological, and cognitive evaluation. Depression was excluded via the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale (Geriatric Depression scale 15) [37]. • 8. Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is... Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students. Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010) explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about the evidence that will show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Presentation Of A Banquet Server It has been one year since I started to be a banquet server. The experience of working as a banquet server has helped me to appreciate people hard work around the tables serving their clients without complaining their exhaustion. According to Christa Titus, the author of The Definition of a Banquet Server, A banquet server is a person who serves food and beverages to guests at an event. The servers work at many special events such as graduation ceremony or wedding feast. Some of their duties are serving the ordered dishes, cleaning up the leftovers and assisting guests with their menu items. From my observation, this career is a low class job which pays a little amount of money for the life expenses alone. The workers are paid by hour but the wages in each country are varied. I am a student so my pocket is always empty, and in order to survive in the high cost city, I was desperate to get an income. One of my friends suggested to me to go to the working board where the local businesses owner posted the news that they were accepting new workers. There were lots of advertisements when I took a short look on the board but just one that attracted me: the beautiful poster of a wedding dress looking for new servers. The poster explained about the available weekend job with the telephone number and office address for the interview. I was more interested on the poster than working as a banquet server but in the end, I applied for the job because I need the money to pay my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Ethical Dilemmas in the Nursing Field There are several dilemmas in the nursing field though nurses reactions to ethical dilemmas are based on their individual values and beliefs as well as ethical principles, professional codes and the climate of the healthcare setting. Nurses encounter ethical dilemmas when conflicting values and judgments are present regarding what is the best course of patient care. Ethical dilemmas are faced by nurses on a daily bases. I am choosing two of these dilemmas to address. 1. Empirical Knowledge vs. Personal Beliefs: Empirical knowledge is the type of knowledge that includes empirical research, scientific enquiry, reductionism and positivism, it is often viewed as true or valid knowledge that can be theoretically explained by scientific traditional ideas like psychology, pharmacology, sociology and biology or by rigorous empirical testing which include knowledge from books, journals and conferences. Example: If a patient is diagnosed with cancer the nurse has a simple list of description like observations, tables of evidence, graphs, empirical hypothesis, empirical definitions, generalizations, and scientific laws with no personal knowledge to help the patient understand. Personal Knowledge: This concerns being self aware, it does not emanate from books, journals, lectures or conferences it refers to the fact that w e know more than we say (Polyani 1966) or understanding without rationale (Benner and Tanner 1987). All of the team members contributed their opinions and decisions on which employees should be laid off. Each member chose who they felt would benefit the company most to layoff and shared it with the rest of the group. Unlike firing an employee, a layoff is no fault of the employees being let go. The decision I made in this assignment was impacted by several areas including educational level, employee evaluations, contributions to the company and tenure. Regarding the layoffs at the company, my first choice regarding an employee the company would considering letting go would be Gabriella Santana. Reviewing Gabriella s work history with the company has revealed she has had multiple lawsuits against the company and won. Though this may seem intimidating and create the fear she may sue again you cannot allow that to interfere when making a decision. The company must take into consideration that she has only been here for 5 years compared to Donavan and Matthew. So, just alone she has less time invested in the company. Additionally, her evaluations have only been rated good to above average. Further review did not determine that she has contributed anything significant to the company. This one word is what many people struggle with. People have a hard time forgiving other people but more often themselves. Amir knows just how hard it is to forgive yourself in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. When Amir makes the decision to not speak up about Hassan he felt so much guilt that he wanted Hassan and Ali to leave, he regretted it instantly. Years later, Rahim khan called Amir and asked him to come back to Afghanistan where he found out Hassan was his half brother. Amir finally forgave himself when he found a way to make up for his mistakes. Hosseini portrays Amir as a morally ambiguous character by his guilt and inability to forgive himself for what he did to Hassan. Morally ambiguous characters become challenged by a dilemma that will test their mental strength. Amir s choice to not speak up about what happened shows his betrayal to his friendship with Hassan. Hosseini displays Amir as Morally ambiguous when Ali asks did something happen to him, Amir Agha? Something he s not telling me? [Amir] shrugged. How should I know ( Hosseini 81).While Amir is saying he doesn t know, he is internally arguing with himself about if he should say something or not. The store employee told me that many small parts of Japan have its own festival. In my city, we have a fireworks festival like every year , she said. It seems these festivities serve as a reminder of Japanese heritage in a country inclined towards American values. According to the Japanese American student, Little Tokyo does not resemble any specific place or region in Japan, it merely creates a general feel of the culture. For the most part, traditional cultural values and constructions are strongly honored among the people of Little Tokyo and those living in Japan. For example, many of the people I spoke to maintained monogamous relationships and grew up in homes where it was highly valued. Moreover, divorce is uncommon for these relationships, unlike here in America where divorce rates are exceptionally high. It likely has something to do with the way the Japanese people present themselves out in the public sphere. • 18. The Right And Bear Arms Christal Blege April 23, 2015 Professor Swint. The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most Americans would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or discharged a gun. More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my family. This is why I fail to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially military grade firearms like assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no legitimate civilian purpose. (Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe over the age of 21 with a permit to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the U.S. own at least one firearm, and of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the percentage of gun ownership has gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do serve other purposes like protection and safety. When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards and values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in our everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest court in the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the individual has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control supporters use is ,with stricter gun ... Most stories are based on the idea that the environment determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little or no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable external forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of naturalist writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival. In section 4, the captain says, if we don t get ashore...if we don t get ashore, I suppose you fellows know where to send news of my finish? (Crane p. 590). The captain, the supposed leader, says these discouraging words. He also repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic attitude. Even though pessimism is an important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one of the key characteristics in naturalistic literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat. 3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as nature controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the color of the sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them. (Crane p. 584). The first few sentences just say that the four men can t see the sky since the waves splash into them. Crane sets the scene of this bleak tale by giving the reader a setting that is the complete opposite of a serene, nice, day out on the water. It shows that the crew s lives are only going to go downhill from there. Later in section 1, Crane writes that A singular disadvantage of the sea lies in the fact that after successfully ... The estates during this time period no longer reflected the social reality because the middle class were expanding into the second estate. The rising middle class actually caused tension between the social groups because they pushed for social change and the nobles felt like they were losing power. • 29. How Does Hardy Use Imagery In The Convergence Of The Twain Often times in poetry, authors use metaphors and imagery to relate thematic elements in their writing to significant components of their personal life or general human nature. Frequently, poets use their writing as a vehicle to subtly narrate their inner struggles or personal conflicts to the audience. In the poem The Convergence of the Twain, author Thomas Hardy introduces the harsh relationship between human vanity and the formidable power of nature. Due to Hardy s upbringing in rural England, he often wrote about his isolated life and the hindrance that work and religion had on his education. According to Wikipedia, Hardy also criticized those involved in English Victorian society and the declining status of rural men and women. The recurring themes of man s inferiority and the worthlessness of material values in Hardy s work can be attributed to his belief that religion and human materialism are often at the root of unhappiness and mankind s inferiority to nature. Similar to Hardy s frustration during his childhood, author Elizabeth Bishop grew up in the early 1900s with an unstable family while struggling to find a place of belonging in society. While animal cruelty is the largest issue that arises from factory farming, there are also many other problems that stem from this type of production such as environmental impacts. With this type of food production, modern animal agriculture puts an incredible strain on natural resources like land, water, and fossil fuel (Factory Farming). This is causing non reversible environmental damage such as contaminating water supplies and producing mass amounts of exhaust due to production. These practices are going unnoticed by both the government and the companies responsible. Laws and regulations for the environment are not doing their job and need to be changed in order to save the resources that future generations have a right to experience. The industry as a whole stand idly by as they destroy the environment by the practices they perform. This puts a major strain on the fight against environmental degradation by the lack of regard for conserving what is not the industries to ruin. While the environment is currently having some major impacts, rural communities are being equally affected. Some of the impacts that transpire from factory farming include an increase in respiratory, neurobehavioral, and mental illness among the residents of communities next to factory farms (Factory Farming). Since its start Sealed Air s goal has been a position as a market leader and as a constant technology developer. Doing things first was always the main idea. This strong idea of being market leader was also inspired by greater and sustainable profits which have always been assured for the market leader. First, since the firm has been a historic champion of barrier coating , starting producing a product which has been characterized by the very firm as weaker and lower quality would go against the very major message of the company and its cost effectiveness approach. This would at least put under question mark the image of the company and its philosophy, at most render almost futile all its market education efforts of more than a decade. Anyway, as mentioned, GAFCEL s success did not come about as a result of creating additional market but rather of gaining a portion of market previously occupied by Astro. It is not that the profit margins were low for the uncoated products (indeed, these hovered around 60 70%), but the change in the product line would have been against the whole idea of Sealed Air. And the firm had very good brand awareness and the American customer was opting for quality and cost effectiveness. In contrast to the American market, the emergence of new competitors on the European market seemed to have the potential of a much more powerful impact. The European customer was not that educated about the product and many regarded packaging supplies as expendable commodities , making the price in this market a key driving determinant of purchase choice. In this context, the decision to diversify by enlarging the product line into uncoated bubble packaging material would have a lesser effect on firm s image. Also, faced ... This book tells of the legendary stories of Edward Bloom, narrated by his son, William. The tales of Edward Bloom seem fictitious and far too amusing to be real. His son is determined to find the truth in his father s stories in order to understand who his father truly was behind his fantastic stories. The movie does not fail in its interpretation of the novel, in fact the movie could very well be even better. Motifs are a powerful embellishment and provide movies with a traceable pattern or a significant meeting to look for later on. Finally, motifs capture and emphasize the most important part of a movie or story. The motifs in Big Fish consisted of the ring that Edward used to catch the fish, the Witch s eye that showed Edward his death, the fish that Edward caught the day his son was born and the giant. An example of the Giants significance in the movie Big Fish was when he stated, You think this town is too small for you? This town is too small for my ambition. The giant in the small city of Ashton represents the big fish in a little pond analogy and Edward Bloom s ambition. The witches eye that showed Edward death was a fantastic motif because it portrayed his fearlessness. The eye is the symbol for himself, and he realizes when he looks into the eye, death doesn t scare him. The witches eye also foreshadows his future relationship with the witch. There were some faults due to lack of detail, set visual, and technical issues, such as audio. There were also great aspects of the play such as the actors, costumes, and special effects. The audience could easily tell the microphones would cut off and on, and It was very hard to ignore. Belle s doorway to her house did not look realistic, you could easily tell the door was flimsy and seemed like It was made out of cardboard. In Gump s simplified southern world, gender roles and expectations are very cut and dry, Gump attempts to turn the patriarchy on its head through the relationships he makes, but still falls victim to masculine expectations. Gump challenges our idea of masculinity by respecting people of various backgrounds and races, falling in love with Jenny, and becoming a respected solider of the United States Army. White men in the Jim Crow south were expected to have prejudices, and react violently when someone does not fall on line these expectations. This reference highlights the overly romanticized characterization of religious tolerance in medieval Spain. Aptly known as La Convivencia, the coexistence in English, this period is noted by as a time of flourishing social, cultural, and economic advancement for the major religious groups residing in Spain. Although true in many ways, the notion that it was a time of extreme tolerance is a severe exaggeration, as is seen by the mistreatment and exile of Jews and Christians from Andalusia. In ORNAMENT OF THE WORLD, María Rosa Menocal supports the idea of religious tolerance, stating It was there the profoundly Arabized Jews rediscovered and reinvented Hebrew; there that Christians embraced nearly every aspect of Arabic style. (chapter 1) This is problematic for a number of reasons. First, that it is an overarching and simplified assessment of the situatuion. Menocal proves this point by highlighting events such as the massacre of Jews in Grenada in 1066 by a mob of Muslim individuals. This contradiction shows that given that such incidences were still taking place, Andalusia was by no means a utopia of religious intolerance, and some attitude of discrimination or tension existed amongst the cohabiting groups. Even if you do believe that these groups were coexisting at a more tolerant level, there are several concessions that Menocal fails to make that are essential in terms of scholarly analysis. The first being that even if certain actions such as taxation and differing clothing for non Islamic peoples should be viewed only within the confines of limited social and symbolic actions rather than as systematic discrimination, is this still perhaps an effort on the part of the Islamic governing body to make assimilation more enticing? Just as in Hellenistic cities special privileges were meant to encourage non Hellenistic groups to assimilate to their conquerers culture, is this not the same in many ways? Regardless, how can such actions not directly be seen as discrimination or an attempt to encourage assimilation by incentivizing conversion? It is clearly evident from first person accounts and laws from the period that groups were in face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A red slash on a test or a mistake marked an absolute failure. Because I hid from past mistakes, I never learned from them, making me incapable of growth. I excused my mistakes and humbly boasted my overall score. I convinced myself that I never actually made a mistake, so I never learned the information that I had previously missed, thus leading to more errors to hide. Finally, after years of insisting upon infallibility, I realized it was a problem. Consequently, I chose to answer the question What s wrong with being wrong? for a project sophomore year. After months of research on historical leaders, I finally concluded that mistakes and failures are opportunities to learn and improve. The abatement process allows for the distribution of limited assets which results in reducing or eliminating bequests to beneficiaries. Basically, abatement involuntarily reduces or eliminates a beneficiary s share of an estate to allow for payment of some obligations. Initially, to determine the need for abatement, the executor will build an administration plan as described in the article The Administration Plan: A necessity for the Executor. Also, in my estate administration, abatement was never a concern. So, this article is a simple overview of what the abatement process entails. The abatement process is much more complicated than this article reveals. As a result, any common executor facing abatement should defer the matter to an attorney skilled in probate law. Furthermore, since some articles in this blog indicated that property left in a will may be sold to cover expenses, this article reveals the process of how that happens. The executor doesn t get to pick which beneficiary loses a bequest. The decedent or probate court makes that decision through the will or legal statute. Also, for the most part, the abatement process protects the executor from legal action or contests from beneficiaries concerning abatement. If a beneficiary or creditor doesn t agree with abatement and files a lawsuit, they will certainly lose. The same happens if a beneficiary contests the will, that beneficiary will lose.
