John Okada s No-No Boy
The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of all a
chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly recognizable
during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, ordering 120,000
Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond
the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John Okada s novel, No No Boy, a
closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the events of the protagonist, Ichiro.
It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions and connections that are unattainable
from an ordinary historical document. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No no boy
makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking around
proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that he is American
which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him
interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible
is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese
community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost
identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth
that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to
be Japanese because he did not know the language and was consumed with anger and hatred towards
his parents because even they weren t any less Japanese even after living in America for thirty five
years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada, 19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of
Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s
lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. However, Ichiro s

Fracking Industry Analysis
Over one and a half million people have watched the video where the family holds a match under their
faucet claiming that the water was polluted with methane due to the local fracking operation yet not all
1.8 million people have investigated fracking and if it is a benefit or danger. But some industry
professionals have and provided their insight into the fracking process. Professionals such as Fred
Dews of the Brookings Institute who argues that there are numerous economic benefits to fracking and

workers come with health and safety risks that must be evaluated and assessed. We cannot allow
fracking to be stopped due to the misconceptions about safety, as this only stalls and hinders, what

Answers to End of Chapter Questions
1. Forward versus Futures Contracts. Compare and contrast forward and futures contracts. ANSWER:
Because currency futures contracts are standardized into small amounts, they can be valuable for the
speculator or small firm (a commercial bank s forward contracts are more common for larger
amounts). However, the standardized format of futures forces limited maturities and amounts. 2.
Using Currency Futures. a. How can currency futures be used by corporations? ANSWER: U.S.
corporations that desire to lock in a price at which they can sell a foreign currency would sell currency
futures. U.S. corporations that desire to lock in a price at which they can purchase a foreign currency

Jaycee Dugard Research Papers
A caged animal. That is all Jaycee Dugard was to Phillip and Nancy Garrido. Phillip and Nancy
stripped the sense of normalcy to Jaycee s life. Jaycee was 11 when she was abducted. She was never
able to look forward to her first day of high school. She was never able to have a sixteenth birthday
party. She never had the chance to get her license like every other normal teenager. She could only
dream of going to her senior prom. Jaycee Dugard was merely a hostage throughout her entire
childhood, and most of her young adult life. The horrendous act of being held captive for 18 years has
truly changed Jaycee s outlook on life. She has now been able to move forward and write two
memoirs of her life in captivity. But, her story is grueling and has taken a toll. Her story has shed light
on the problems society faces in abductions and the way justice systems respond to them. The story
also shows the holes our justice system has and what needs to be done to fix them. Jaycee Dugard s
experience has effected American society in the sense that one s life can change in an instant. Walking

In the beginning many people were looking for Jaycee Dugard. People wanted to help, and money was
raised to try to find her. After years passed her search party began to dwindle. Her mother was the sole
person looking for her. Her mother said in an interview that she begged and pleaded for the police to
reopen her case, but they never would. In Jaycee s situation, when she was kidnapped the media got
involved and the family pleaded for their daughter back. But, after a long period of time hope was
given up. Society comes together in the beginning of any accident, but as time goes on and the act is
not fresh on people s minds people forget. People forget that there are missing children. People forget
that the mother of this child is still looking. Society needs to be accountable for not staying focused on

Deliquency And Juvenile Delinquency
Introduction
An estimated 70% of juveniles that are in the juvenile system have an elementary academic
achievement level, and have learning disabilities. [1]. Poor school performance, skipping school, and
dropping out at a young age are all connected to delinquency. There was an increase in the rates of
juvenile delinquency after dropping out from school [2]. Juveniles who go to school consistently and
have a strong academic performance, ideally go on to college and have a successful career and bright
future [1]. There seems to be a connection between academic performance and delinquency. It seems
that young people with a lower academic performance are more delinquent than young people with a
higher academic performance [3,4].

What is linking academic performance and delinquency together, and what kind of association do they
have with each other, is it negative or positive?
Studies suggest that improving educational performance and behavior will more than likely result in
positive outcomes. It also suggests that coming up with innovative educational strategies are the most
effective solution to improve delinquency and academic performance [2]. Educational programs
intended to address delinquency and poor academic performance that teaches self control and social
class, will probably be more successful in improving education outcomes for juvenile delinquents [2]
[7]. The purpose of this study is to find the link between academic performance and delinquency, and
find what kind of association they have with each other.
Methodology The participants for this study will include 200 juvenile delinquents that will be
recruited from juvenile detention centers in New York, through a process of stratified sampling.
Stratified sampling allows us to select participants from different areas of New York. To be eligible for
this study, participants have to meet these requirements, 1) ages 14 17; 2) In juvenile detention; 3) able
to speak and read in English. Participants were excluded from the study if they were, 1) Under the age
of 14; 2) Over the age of 17; 3) Not in juvenile

Thomas In The Maze Runner
Why is Chuck the best character out of all of them? The story is The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
The story is about this boy named Thomas who wakes up in a lift. He finds himself in a maze with
other boys around his age and one younger than the rest. Thomas is curious about everything will this
get him or his friends hurt or worse killed. Chucks is young, loyal, innocent, and a caring friend. In
chapter three is when Thomas first meets Chuck. Thomas turned to his right to see a kid standing
nearby, short, pudgy, staring at him. He was young probably the youngest of any in the group he d
seen so far, maybe twelve or thirteen years old. (Chapter 3, p. 13)This show how young he is in the
story. With how young he is people think he is weak and not good for anything but cleaning. It helps

Why We Shouldn T Have Classroom Pets
Classroom have been known to have plenty of benefits, but are they really as good as they seem?
Classroom pets are well known since they help kids learn important lessons, but they have also been
known to hurt things in schools. Classroom pets hurt the animals, and support cruel pet trade and are
unhealthy. Clearly, classrooms pets are a very bad idea.
First of all, we shouldn t have classrooms pets is that it hurts the animals lives and their ways of life.
For example, some information from source 3 that supports this is, Many suffer from missed meals,
unsanitary living conditions, and lack of climate control. This means that people in the school forget
about the class pet sometime because they have other important things to do. This could ... Show more

Some evidence from source 1 that supports this is: pets come from come from awful breeding
facilities where they ve been kept in horrific and filthy conditions. This means that people who do
horrible things to animals actually gain from some class pets bought off them. Sometimes a class that
can t care for the pet gives it away to these people. These bad conditions can cause a pet to catch a
disease, which could be carried to the classrooms. These people are bad, but won t be going out of
business to soon if we keep supporting them. More information that supports pets hurting kids from
source 1 is, Bacteria such as salmonella can be spread by the handling of reptiles and frogs, and
rodents such as hamsters can carry transmittable diseases. This shows that the good intentions of
helping kids learn life lessons can not only hurt the animals, but the people around the animals too. We
indirectly hurt kids if we let them near these types of pets. Not all pets carry diseases, but one that
have been brought up by cruel breeders have a greater chance to have these problems. Nobody wants
kids to get disease from their own pets or have animals get kept so badly, so why risk it just to

Title: Rangers Report
Welcome to the first week of Rangers Report, where I will take a look at some of the past
performances by players in the past week, and do a quick little recap on how the past week has gone
for the team.
The Rangers will need strong performances night in and night out in order to make the playoffs. Every
game is incredibly critical, and the difference between winning the AL West and gaining a Wild Card
spot is huge. If the Rangers win the West, then they will be guaranteed a spot in the ALDS where they
will get to play in a five game series. If they only get a WC spot, then they will find themselves in a
one game playoff, which anything can happen in a one game playoff. Not only that, but Cole

able to get hitters to hit lazy popups, and that is exactly what he did this past week.
Cold: Delino DeShields
I m a huge DeShields fan, what he has brought to the table has been absolutely huge for the Rangers.
His ability to swipe bags and be a threat on the base paths is something this lineup needed, and he has
certainly brought it. That being said, DeShields has struggled over the course of the past week.
DeShields is hitting a putrid .154 (2 for 13) with a double and two runs scored. His six strikeouts in
the past five games is also a cause for concern, especially when you consider the speed he possesses.
That speed being said, it is also a little alarming that he hasn t had a stolen base over the past ten
games. But not all hope is lost for DeShields, as he has an OBP of .353 over the past week. So while
he is still getting on base, you would love to see him generating a few more chances.

His Justifications For The Proposed Action? How Did Henry Address The Concerns Of Those Who

Through the use of the image of slavery, Henry managed to paint a clear picture of how the situation
was, therefore, making it easier for him to emphasize the need for America s independence. Also,
Henry uses a change in the volume of his voice in his video speech to appeal to the emotions of his
fellow delegates. Henry begins his speech in a normal tone of voice, but throughout the video, his
voice gradually gets louder with time, and in the end, he shouts his concluding line, give me liberty, or
give me death! [4] This gradual volume change in Henry s voice enabled him to appeal to the feelings
of his audience effectively, and eventually emphasize on his message of fighting for liberty.
At the beginning of Henry s speech, he was aware of the fact that not every delegate supported his
idea of fighting British rule; some wanted America to make peace and reconciliation with Britain. He
politely acknowledged different men often see the same subject in different lights [5] and that his aim
was to express his sentiments unreservedly regarding the debate on whether Americans should fight
for their freedom or remain enslaved by the British rule. Henry hoped his fellow delegates would not
see his sentiments as disrespectful. He also told his audience that they had a responsibility towards
America and God to seek the truth and that if he held back his opinions for fear of offending others; he

Analysis Of The Birth Of A Nation
The motion picture, The Birth of a Nation, produced and directed by D. W. Griffith and released
March 21, 1915. D. W. Griffith and Frank E. Woods, co wrote the screenplay, which they adapted for
the screen from the novel and play The Clansman: An Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan by
Thomas Jr. Dixon. The movie based on the book began with two families the Stoneman and the
Cameron; however, as they grow up the struggles between the north and south became harder to
overcome. As the love story unwraps the introduction of the Ku Klux Klan began and the way the
communities embracement of the clan was remarkable. A few of the cast members are Lillian Gish,
Mae Marsh, and Henry B. Walthall. Actor Lillian Gish, played the part of Elsie daughter of Stoneman,
and there was also Mae Marsh, who acted as Flora Cameron the pet sister and Mister Henry B.
Walthall who portrayed Colonel Ben Cameron. The Birth of a Nation regarded as Griffith s highly
most influential and controversial film because of the racialism and what they believe is people
equality represented. The film remains recognized by the National Film Preservation Board, USA
1992 and Online Film, and Television Association 2000.
The reconstruction is the period of time in American History from 1863 to 1877 when the eleven

Planet of the Apes Essay
Planet of the Apes
When Planet of the Apes opened in theaters, few people knew what to expect. To most, the idea of a
movie with the premise of a planet full of intelligent apes went against everything they had been
taught. The initial attraction was the superb cast, spearheaded by Charlton Heston who portrays
Taylor, an astronaut who crashes onto the planet. Heston was joined by many popular actors and
actress such as, Roddy McDowell as Cornelius, Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Kim Hunter as Zira.
Though the cast may have been the initial draw, the content is what has made the movie Planet of the
Apes a classic that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

To us, having one individual controlling both seems not only preposterous, but also dangerous. The
American mind immediately concludes that a system such as this will lead to stagnation in science,
and close mindedness in religion.
In Planet of the Apes this stagnation does occur. When a young upstart scientist named Cornelius tries
to attack the religiously based view of life in his society he is brought up on charges of heresy.
Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man.
Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with charges
of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view on the
origins of life in the 1800 s, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him.
This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things that
have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity s own shortcomings
more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On one level,
Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another level, the
director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and are therefore
doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the film.

David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster Summary
Is it morally right to boil a lobster alive for culinary enjoyment? David Foster Wallace displays his
confusion on this subject in his informative essay titled Consider the Lobster. . He informs you about
the famed Maine Lobster Festival, where more than 25,000 pounds of fresh caught lobster is prepared
and consumed. He then goes into detail about the debate on the morality of such an event. There are a
lot of questions raised in this essay, and the lobster is the focus of all of them. Wallace asks people to
investigate their own feelings when he asks them to consider how comfortable it is for people to boil
lobsters alive, how much pain the lobster is in when it is being prepared, and what it is like to be in the
shoes of this crustacean. The purpose of this essay was to inform the people and get them to consider
the integrity of our most common cooking method when it comes to the lobster. First of all, the
experience of boiling a creature alive tends to feel quite uncomfortable for a lot of people, and there s
no avoiding that. Wallace says that it s not just that lobsters get boiled alive, it s that you do it yourself
or at least it s done specifically for you, on site (703). This tends to feel almost selfish due to the fact
that the animal is suffering for your enjoyment. To make matters worse, the intimacy of this process is
at a maximum when performed in your own home. Here, you get to watch as the lobster attempts to
cling to the sides of the container as you

Kevin Rudd Apology To Australia s Indigenous People
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd s apology to Australia s Indigenous people is in its own essence addressed
in a spoken form but has been transcribed into a written text. The speech was delivered at the
Parliament of Australia, House of Representatives by Kevin Rudd with the intentions to make an
apology to Indigenous Australians in particular of the dreadful past of the Stolen Generations . It was
delivered to both a live audience as well as broadcast via the channel of television and radio to a wider
Australian audience, especially to the Aboriginal audience. He adopts an appropriate and respectful
tenor which in turns fosters a formal register to accommodate the solemnity of the topic. Accordingly,
it softens Rudd s relative social status to further give him creditability of his humble tone. Whilst the
topic relates to the catastrophe of the Stolen Generations the field of the transcript more broadly

implements repetition and strings of parallelisms with statements in line 16 to 21 with we say sorry to

To Intermittent Fast, or not to Intermittent Fast, that is the question

trust me I guarantee you are missing out if you are unaware of it. By the end, of this article I am

Intermittent fasting, (also called periodic fasting PF) is a type of eating pattern used by professionals

Intermitting fasting does unfortunately cause some people to get fatigued especially if they are new to
intermittent fasting therefore, I recommend people to not endure with intermitting fasting every day to
prevent you getting tired , underperforming when training and reduce muscle growth. I also do not
recommend enduring with intermitting fasting if you are over the age of 50 or if your body is still
developing physically (children and teenagers) to prevent any potential growth side effects.
Advantages of Occlusion training
Now moving onto the advantages, one of PF s best benefits is the fact that you will dramatically boost
fat burning throughout your body, this is because when you eat food your body spends couple of hours
changing the food into simpler nutritional units such as amino acids and simple sugars. Therefore
when you are in a normal eating schedule, your body will actually use the food you ate throughout the
day or the past hours to provide itself with energy and other required nutrients and vitamins. Although
if you are in a fasted state your body will not have the option to use food as an energy source and will
be forced to use the fat storage around your body ( including stubborn visceral fat ) to provide your
muscles and other parts of your body with the required energy , nutrients and vitamins. This will lead

Safety In South Street Philadelphia
South Street Philadelphia s sidewalk s safety is not determined by the strangers shuffling in and out of
the area, but instead by the local residents and community members who live there. Based on my
personal observations, the biggest asset to South Street in regard to safety and overall quality of the
area are the locals who reside there. This idea of community investment relating to the safety of a
street is presented in Jane Jacob s novel The Death and Life of Great American Cities and is one of her
ideas that is accurately displayed throughout South Street. By examining the various ways people
interact in different areas and shops on South Street, I was able to evaluate what aspects of her writing

of tourists every day, whether it be through the allure of the various shops or the dozens of restaurants

fact that they have virtually no ties to the area. Due to the fact that many of these visitors have little to
no investment in the quality and safety of South Street, they play a seemingly small role in the safety
of the sidewalk. Sure, they provide extra eyes on the street, but if those eyes have little reason to care
about the street itself, how beneficial can they really be? Jacobs even states herself, Bars, and indeed

Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor.
Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing
costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers.
Outsourcing Today Offshore Outsourcing
How is it Possible?
According to Philip Kotler, Today s economic landscape is being shaped by two powerful forces
technology and globalization. Offshore outsourcing is made possible by these same two factors. This
is not surprising, given the history of technological advances effects on the economy. Advances in
communications technologies and information technologies are making it possible. Several jobs can
be performed at one place while reporting to another, by electronically sending the work wherever it is
needed. And offshore outsourcing is having a tremendous affect on the economies of the countries

Renaissance Rebirth
Revival, Rebirth, these are the words that describes the Renaissance period. The Renaissance period
was a period in Europe during the 1300 1700 it was a period of rebirth . It was the period between the
high middle ages to the modern age. The Renaissance period influenced/ pioneered the things or ideas
we use today.During this period, science and technology boosted while, the arts became famous.
Renaissance humanism and the bubonic plague (black death)led to the renaissance period this is
because there was a need of rebirth after the series of epidemics, also people relied on REASON rather
than FAITH for explanations thus, boosting science and technology.
Humanism changed the way people see things.During the middle ages people believe in religion as the
ultimate virtue but, during the renaissance period they now beleived in reason. Also, they know focus
on learning from human experiences rather than the life of Jesus Christ.Human living is now the

Informal Fallacies Of An Informal Fallacy
Our lives revolve around money. The value of a dollar does not buy much anymore; everything comes
with a price tag. The media likes to entice people with catchy slogans, celebrities or any other setup
just so they can obtain our money. Once they grasp our attention we realize most of these attention
grabbers had no relation to their argument or what they are trying to sell. Thus the correct term for the
types of misleading ads and television commercials is called informal fallacies. The purpose of an
informal fallacy can be to enact reactions from the audience, used to discredit a person or lastly appeal
to a certain outlook. They mainly lack the validity in order to prove their argument. The media
provides us with many scenarios using different forms of informal fallacies. I will provide three
notable examples of informal fallacies by explaining the type of fallacy and why the media used this
fallacy.
To start off, I should first differentiate between a formal and informal fallacy. A formal argument is
when the argument lacks the correct structural form. The form of the fallacy will then be able to tell us
if the fallacy is valid or invalid. The difference is in the way the argument is written, informal fallacies
lack context in order to make the argument. For example, I came across a nationwide commercial that
took a different approach in order to sell to the public. Rather than sell to their audience some reasons
why they should chose to consult with the company they

My Plan For A Capstone Project
At SNHU, I have acquired a lot of skills that allowed me to complete my capstone project. I have
learned many concepts that help me to successfully finish with my entire program. To prepare such a
capstone project, it is indispensable to have some skills and knowledge. I received that knowledge
from the course I had at SNHU. I got the project management skills. I now have knowledge of the
healthcare informatics. My communication skills have been ameliorated. Since the project is about the
healthcare system, I used my knowledge of healthcare studies to prepare my report. Those studies
included, but not limited to: Health Policy and Financing; Leadership in Clinical Microsystems;
Global Health and Diversity; and Health Policy, Law, Ethics and Regulations. In Addition to that
knowledge, the marketing skills have been helpful for preparing the report. In sum; the courses I took
at SNHU have considerably helped me to appropriately prepare the capstone project.
All of those skills and knowledge are helping me in my workplace. For example, I have learned from
the Healthcare Informatics study, the concept of EMR and EHR and their meaningful use in health
care settings. Through that concept; nowadays, I have a solid EMR user in my workplace. I will apply
that concept in my future high position in the healthcare organizations here in the USA or somewhere
in the world. The Project Management and the Marketing studies ameliorated my communication

The Impact Of The 1860 Presidential Election
Assess the influence of the 1860 presidential election as a cause of the American Civil War
The 1860 presidential election of Abraham Lincoln greatly contributed to the outbreak of the Civil
War. Abraham Lincoln, born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809, served as the sixteenth president of
the United States. He was the very first Republican to serve as president, eventually leading the Union
to victory during the civil war. Lincoln opposed the idea of the expansion of slavery but acknowledged
that he would not interfere with slavery where it existed. Despite this, Southern fears that slavery
would soon be abolished by Republicans became a reality after Abraham Lincoln was elected
president on November 6th, 1860. The election influenced the ... Show more content on

Abraham Lincoln freely expressed his hatred for slavery and it s expansion to Northern states, but he
wasn t calling for immediate emancipation. Despite this, Southerners fears that slavery would soon be
abolished by Republicans reached its peak after the presidential election. Southerners viewed the
presidential election of Lincoln as a virtual referendum regarding slavery. The 1860 presidential
election caused fear and paranoia amongst Southerners that slavery would quickly be eradicated
entirely by Lincoln and the newly formed Republican party, which ultimately illustrates the influence
the election had on the outbreak of the Civil War.
Abraham Lincoln s election as president was achieved purely by sectional voting. Lincoln did not win
a single vote from any of the Southern states. During 1805 a new political party known as the
Republican party was formed largely by those in opposition to slavery s expansion into the Northern
states. One year on from John Brown s attempted slave upheaval at Harper s Ferry, Virginia, the
national debate regarding slavery had reached boiling point. Several Southern states had threatened to
secede should Lincoln be elected president

Making Schools Safer from Bullying
Have you ever been bullied or witnessed anyone suffering from any form of bullying? If the answer is
yes, then you should know the negative feeling that is created from it. The Youth Internet Safety
Survey, conducted by the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New
Hampshire, found that eight percent of the youth surveyed had experienced and reported some form of
harassment. An old familiar saying is that Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will
never hurt me , which is a lie! Simple bullying is defined as repeated verbal, physical, and social
behaviors that are hurtful to any individual or group of persons. It can include humiliation,
domination, intimidation and all forms of harassment not limited to: race, gender, disability, or sexual
orientation ( nsw.gov.au ). All forms of bullying have been proven to leave long term effects on the
victims. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non victims,
according to studies by Yale University ( Bullying Statistics ). It is not just students that encourage the
bully who victimized, but the students who watch in silence hurt the victim as well. Bullying leads
back to the beginning of time, but in more recent years, it has become more publicly talked about.
Although, the government began to nationally address bullying and advanced training is being
provided to educators

Why Iceland Volcano s Eruption Caused So Much Trouble
The plume of ash and steam rising from the Eyjafjallaj
Credit: Jeff Schmaltz, MODIS Rapid Response Team at NASA GSFC
Jagged flecks of ash spewed into the air may have boosted the effects of the 2010 eruption of Iceland s
Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which paralyzed flights across Europe, a new study finds.
The ash plume from Eyjafjallajökull caused turmoil in the air for nearly a month. Still, the eruption
was a relatively small event. For instance, the plume never reached more than about 6 miles (10
kilometers) in height, and the volcano only spewed out about 9.5 billion cubic feet (270 million cubic
meters) of ash over the course of several months, while some eruptions can spew out many times more
than that in the span of a single day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To learn more about why this was, a group of scientists collected ash samples from across Iceland.
The researchers found that at Eyjafjallajökull s vent, upwelling magma violently reacted with nearby
glacial water. This rapid cooling made the magma contract and fragment into fine, jagged motes of
ash. Near the end of the eruption, equally fine, porous ash was generated when small gas bubbles
trapped in the molten rock expanded as the magma neared the surface.
The investigators found that the median width of all the ash grains was less than 1 millimeter wide.
Starting about 6 miles (10 km) from the vent and moving outward, particles smaller than 16 microns
about a sixth the width of a human hair became more than 20 percent of the

Analysis Of The Movie The Gift
While film is a visual medium, some of the understated elements of cinematic choices are often
overlooked. General audiences are attracted to films due to the choice of actors and a general interest
in the story, but the most complex mechanisms of successful films are rarely spoken of or noticed. The
choice of color scheme, set design, and props, are all various ways in which the director adds their
stamp of creative concept. When all of these components are blended, they create the mood, tone, and
style of the of movie. In this essay, three short films all featuring different locations, characters, and
themes are examined to try and understand why directors pick certain visual undertones and to decide
if they worked in favor or against the overall story. In doing so, this essay hopes to explore the many
ways in which aspiring creatives can add appealing visuals to their work to underline the main theme
and create a better understanding for their audience.
The first film, The Gift, is a quirky if not surreal look at love. Ms. Anderson, A woman in charge of
wrapping gifts in a store, is tasked with wrapping the gift of a local magician and customer, Mr.
Grimm. It is obvious she has feelings for him, and she believes the gift, a family heirloom necklace, is
for another woman. This leads to her spiral, coming to the realization that he does not share the same
feelings. In the end, however, as he leaves, she discovers that he has somehow magically placed the
necklace on her,

Vigilantism In Batman

From the time I was a little girl watching the Batman movies, I have always supported the idea of a

older and wiser I ve developed more of an understanding of the corruption that does destroy our
justice system which makes me support vigilantism even more. Though real life isn t quite as dramatic
as the Batman movies, I like the idea of a masked vigilante protecting those who cannot protect
themselves. Vigilantes are the heroes that every community needs to swiftly deal out justice.

This could be a program, method, system, or other action. A dependent variableis what may change as
a result of the independent variable or intervention. A dependent variable could be a behavior,
outcome, or other condition. A smoking cessation program, for example, is an independent variable
that may change group members smoking behavior, the primary dependent variable. What do we
mean by analyzing data? Analyzing information involves examining it in ways that reveal the
relationships, patterns, trends, etc. that can be found within it. That may mean subjecting it to
statistical operations that can tell you not only what kinds of relationships seem to exist among
variables, but also to what level you can trust the answers you re getting. It may mean comparing your
information to that from other groups (a control or comparison group, statewide figures, etc.), to help
draw some conclusions from the data. The point, in terms of your evaluation, is to get an accurate
assessment in order to better understand your work and its effects on those you re concerned with, or
in order to better understand the overall situation. There are two kinds of data you re apt to be working
with, although not all evaluations will necessarily include both. Quantitative data refer to the
information that is collected as, or can be translated into, numbers, which can then be displayed and
analyzed mathematically. Qualitative

Aspects Of Ell Education And Student Achievement
There are many aspects of ELL education to be explored. In order to effectively inform policy on ELL
education, one must consider what affects student achievement, how to keep education adequate and
equitable with the inclusion of ELLs, and how ELL education affects funding of schools. These
topical areas of research, while not exhaustive, are helpful in framing the larger topic of this paper: if
varying numbers of ELLs affect the state mechanism for funding ELL education.
ELL Education and Student Achievement
One of the first questions one must consider when dealing with ELL acquisition is what differences
affect student achievement. In ELL education, there is a great amount of variation within the different

Other aspects of program implementation were not significant to ELL students but affected non ELL
students scores. Overall, they found that states placing more of an emphasis on bilingual education
had ELLs scoring higher in reading tests.
While their study is helpful in understanding how state emphasis on ELL education makes a
difference, one shortcoming of their study is that while they do have a limited categorical model for
how they determined state emphasis it only surveys eight states in their analysis. Furthermore, while
they survey the historical development of ELL programs nationally, it fails to explain why some states
place more emphasis (through more tailored programs) on ELL education. This last failing
demonstrates the need for a study demonstrating the link between ELLs and policy.
Adequacy and Equity of ELL Education
ELL education is important when considering the adequacy and equity of education for ELLs and non
ELLs alike. Ramirez et al. studied the adequacy and equity of funding ELLs in Colorado through
categorical funding in the English Language Proficiency Act (ELPA) and determined the effect of ELL
enrollment in conjunction with the ELPA program on school districts. He found that in Colorado,

The Classical Period Of The Baroque Era
The Classical time period, which spanned a length of seventy years, from 1750 to 1820, was very
different in nature from its predecessor, the Baroque time period. The Baroque era featured works that
were ornamentally elaborate, where the artists and composers centered their works on a big, bold style
that was dramatic in its composition. Artists and composers transferred strong feelings of tension and
emotion into their works and it was common for there to be some type of action or movement
happening within the work. Those who lived in the Classical time period, valued simplicity and
wanted to return to the ideals of the Greeks. Therefore, the Classical time period is characterized by
clear structural clarity, simplicity, smoothness, and symmetry. However, though the works took a step
back from the grand movement of the Baroque era, the composers and artists of the Classical time
period did lay out a tuneful and elegant style in their music and art. Out of the Classical era came
many renowned artists and composers, two of those whom are artist Sir Thomas Lawrence and
composer Ludwig van Beethoven ( NYU ).
In the year of 1769, Thomas Lawrence was born to his parents in Bristol, England. Though he was
born in Bristol, Lawrence grew up in Devizes and later on, in Bath and Oxford, where his self
education as an artist was furthered. In Devizes, Lawrence spent his childhood at his father s inn,
where he began his career as an artist. In these early years of his life, he taught

The Influence of Chinese and Irish Laborers on the Transcontinental Railroad
The Chinese and Irish laborers answered strongly when asked to help build the Transcontinental
Railroad that connected the Pacific and the Atlantic Coasts. During the long process the immigrant
workers encountered harsh weather and living and working conditions. Their work produced the Great
Iron Trail in an incredibly short time with minimal resources and equipment. Their struggles are often
overlooked and their overseers credited with the building of the railroad. The Chinese and Irish found
what entertainment they could, often challenging each other to lay more track in one day than the

The Irish had come from a hostile Boston in search of a place in the job market. They found an
equality they had been unable to find in New England (Potter 670; Howard 225). Although they found
jobs, few were very successful. A majority still lived in shantytowns and poverty even in California.
The Civil War played a major role in who was hired and how the employees were chosen. The Civil
War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad and one
year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental railroad was
finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the groundbreaking
(Howard 126 143; website). The western and eastern railroad companies had always depended on
immigrant workers and with the start of the Civil War, this dependency was even greater (Johnson and
Supple 191). There was a shortage of white Americans willing to work because they had either
enlisted or been drafted into the war (Hogg 71; Howard 224). The Chinese were forced into a servant
s/slave s life. In some cases, white men imported Chinese laborers in crowded ships, much like the
African slaves, and hired at auctions (Hogg 72 73). The Chinese were also looking for a way out of
poverty and slavery and saw the transcontinental railroad as a means of escape. During the Civil War,
the wealthy were able to buy their way out of the draft, leaving the poor to fight. The Irish

Logical fallacies
My whole paper will be over the logical fallacies and the examples I had made for each one. Now this
all have to do with some kind of philosophy terms and what they truly mean but in my own words and
examples. 1. Mere Assertion Mere Assertion is when someone doesn t want to give up an argument
even known they can t prove their right with no evidence. * Example: My daughter says she is right
when she said she saw a movie last night, but she has no movie ticket to prove herself innocent.
2. Circular Reasoning The Circular Reasoning is when every argument comes out the truth or
considers the same evidence. * ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Example: My friend had but his girlfriend s name on him and every time he would go out he would
cheat on her and say it was his sister s name. So it would be argument between the two of them.
7. Sweeping Generalization Sweeping Generalization is like when the police department has two ideas
that could lead to the story of what had happen in the case. * Example: A women had got killed and
the police had two ideas who could ve been the killer. So the police had narrowed it down to two
conclusions.
8. Slippery Slope Slippery Slope is like the alphabets because each letter has to come after each other
to work out. * Example: When they have a certain road for truck drivers to drive on and they decide to
take it away for something else. Than that means it won t ever be used again for the truck drivers
unless they go through the steps to use it again.
9. Equivocation or Changing Meanings Equivocation or changing meanings is where I would be
making my argument and then switch it to another argument to hide away from the truth. * Example:
My youngest son was making an argument with us to get away from the truth and when he tried to
turn to another argument, I told him it s better to tell the truth it will make you feel better.

Gerald Ford Biography
Following his defeat in the 1976 presidential election, Gerald Ford retired to Rancho Mirage,
California. Thereafter, Ford appeared frequently in public as a speaker, lecturing for private audiences
and on university campuses. In his post presidential years, Ford wrote a number of books, including an
account of his presidency, A Time to Heal (1979), and Humor and the Presidency (1987). Always very
athletic, Ford continued to enjoy the game of golf.
However, Ford s exit from Washington did not immediately end his political ambitions. He surprised
most observers when he entered into discussions with Ronald Reagan in 1980 about running on the
Republican ticket with the former governor of California. However, Ford took the offer to the media
(specifically to CBS anchor Walter Cronkite in a convention interview); feeling betrayed, an angry
Reagan withdrew the offer, which ultimately went to George H.W. Bush. During the 1980s and 1990s,
Ford emerged as an elder statesman in the Republican Party. Likewise, Ford wrote extensively on
domestic and foreign policy issues of the day. He also served on a number of corporate boards and

surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by
the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42).
Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many
years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider.
According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by
the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling
completed (2011, p. 2). The information is obtained from surveys completed by respondents. This

There are various ways to measure socioeconomic and health inequalities but in the article, the two
methods that present an accurate picture of the inequalities are the slope index of inequality and the
concentration index. They provide a measurement based on their socioeconomic status and not on
their health (Garcia McCarthy 2012, p. 44). The article mentions an international comparison of
socioeconomic differences in health. Most countries used education as means of measurement while
other countries used occupation or income. Countries who used education and income data were able
to comparisons between countries. According to Munoz Arroyo and Sutton, the slope index of
inequality shows the relation of health in a socioeconomic category and the ranking of socioeconomic

The Value Of Nature In The Man Who Killed The Deer
Pivotal to their tribal heritage, the Pueblos value the natural world above all else. The native people
feel a living connection with nature; in which the Pueblo find their complete peace through the bare
granite face of the mountain , the sacred tribal lake , or the deep turquoise lake of life offering the
ecocentric beings comfort (6 7). Waters novel The Man Who Killed the Deer opens with the nature
calling a strong Pueblo Indian into the woods. The honorable character hears Grandfather coyote and
Grandfather Crow call out to him, asking him to leave his home and come to the forest (17). By
listening to the heart of the mountains , synonymous to the heart of [his] body , he saves a man s life
(17). Truly, the deep pulse of the mountain and the pulse of his own blood [...] beat together as one
(7). Palemon s experience with nature sets the tone of the novel: the Pueblo value nature, tradition,
and their tribe above all else. The ecocentrism in Pueblo Culture values balance in nature over any
other relationship: if nature lies in peace, then life remains balanced. In The Man who Killed the Deer
by Frank Waters, the author influences the reader to think like a Pueblo tribe member by using the
Pueblo s value of nature to describe the protagonist and his wife.
Waters represents Martiniano s uncertainty between his Pueblo community and the white men from
his school life through his struggles with the natural world. Martiniano s battle with the outdoor world

In The Other Wes Moore, two kids with the same name were raised at the same time in the same
poverty, drug, and crime stricken area. They both struggled in school and both had early complications
with the law. Yet both men took extremely different paths for their futures. One Wes Moore went on to
become a scholar, a decorated veteran, and a successful business leader. While the Other Wes Moore

responsibility, self sufficiency, and citizen leadership can easily help shape and change the course of
someone s life path with only one simple decision. Expressing the importance of knowing the
difference between right and wrong, and how only individuals determine their future with their own
good or bad choices. Also showing that even one mistake can either advance you or delay you in self
improvement, but also showing that you cannot truly achieve with out experiencing a few failures
first. But as a person you should not let your failures define you, you should learn from them and have
a positive out look so you can continue to move forward.
Just recently starting a new life as a college freshman, four hours away from the life I knew for

Essay on The Sounds of Rebel Without a Cause
Director Nicholas Ray was lucky to have a talented composer create an original score for Rebel
Without A Cause. Leonard Rosenman was born in 1924 and studied music in New York and Europe.
His work as a film composer and arranger is very traditional, and has been regarded by some music
critics as insignificant. However, Rosenman received Academy Awards and Oscar nominations for his
work. Along with film scores, Rosenman wrote theme music and scores for numerous television
shows. The score in Rebel Without A Cause is much like another film starring James Dean, East of
Eden.
The sounds and music in this film are very realistic, and to the point. There is not anything abstract or
out of place, and everything is very appropriate. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on in the day, after a field trip to the local planetarium, Jim meets a group of kids that are
troublemakers and want to fight with him. As a conversation begins, music also begins in the
background, yet quickly changes when the gang wants trouble. The music becomes fast, louder, and
more suspenseful. The style of mickeymousing, type of score [that] uses music as a literal equivalent
to the image (Giannetti, 231), was also used in this same scene. Jim and the character of Buzz are
fighting each other with knives, and at every jab of the knife the music changes and becomes more
dramatic and even more suspenseful. It is said that, music can serve as a kind of overture to suggest
the mood or spirit of the film as a whole (Giannetti, 233). Later on, James Dean s character is asking
his father for advice, and the music becomes quiet, slow and mysterious. Another scene where the
score plays a vital role in the atmosphere is during an argument with Jim and his parents. Jim and his
father are yelling, and when Jim grabs his father as if to hit him, the music turns scary and very
intense.
Along with background music, sound effects play more of a role on the way we feel than many
moviegoers think, and although the function of sound effects is primarily atmospheric, they can also
be precise sources of meaning in film (Giannetti, 225). When the

What s Meant By Person Centred And Coordinated Care
I would like to start by defining what s meant by person centred and coordinated care. Person Centred
has various definitions yet not one that s universally accepted. Debra De Silva in her review for The
Health Foundation describes it as supporting people to make informed decisions about, and to
successfully manage, their own health and care, yet able to make informed decisions and choose when
to invite others to act on their behalf (2014, pg. 2). It essentially means that the care given places the
patient in control and everything else is built around that. Professor Don Berwick sums it up as the
experience of transparency, individualisation, recognition, respect, dignity, and choice in all matters,
without exception, related to one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many components of implementing person centred coordinated care but I ll highlight those I
feel are important. Firstly, evidence shows that there needs to be a fundamental understanding that
patient choice matters. According to Hartley and Benington (2010, pp. 2 5) there are greater
expectations from patients and communities for more personalised and flexible care. Research shows
that a patient s decision regarding treatment change when they re well informed and this can only
mean a better experience of care for a patient. For example, an international Cochrane Review that
included 11 trials involving major elective surgeries showed that demand declined by 20% after
patients became well informed (Mulley et al, 2012). This also leads to greater convenience for patients
and having the option to go where they like and when they like for care can only become a reality
when true integration and coordination is achieved within the healthcare system. This relies on
clinicians accepting that they don t know best when it comes to patient preferences and letting them
decide their own preferences for receiving care and the settings where to receive it. I was involved in a
service redesign for the phlebotomy service at Burton Hospitals NHS foundation trust where patients
wanted a service that operated earlier then the normal opening time of 9:00 am. I worked with the
patients and staff to find a solution where the service

Mitsubishi Pajero
Good morning/afternoon. Buying a new product can be stressful at the best of times, but when the
product is a new car worth $70,000, this stress can become overwhelming. When our client, Mark,
came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to
either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the
liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a
quality, informed decision. The criteria are as follows: Mark has a daily commute of 10km on average
per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will
drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000
with which to buy the car, so the chosen models must be under $70,000. Aside from city life, Mark
runs a cattle station with rugged terrain, so the car must also be up to scratch off road. Both the Toyota
Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero fit these criteria, and in order to create the fairest evaluation, the Pajero
Exceed, valued at $66,500 and the Toyota Prado GXL (valued at $69,000), thus eliminating price as a
contending factor. In terms of related economic facts, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Raymond Chandler s The Little Sister
Raymond Chandler, who wrote The Little Sister, wrote his books to reveal mystery, crime and love. A

Orfamay who is looking for her brother Orrin. She hires a detective, Marlowe, who helps her find him.
The brother was not exactly what he said he was and he s been locked away hidden from everyone he
knew. As he is looking for him, a few killings happen and Marlowe finds out that those killings are
leading him closer to finding Orfamay s brother Orrin. Those killings are clues that are related to Orrin
and Marlowe starts to notice it. As Marlowe is looking in a building that Orrin was staying in, the first
killing happens. Marlowe first goes to the room and there is a woman who is also there searching for
clues. At first Marlowe thinks she is the one who is doing the killings. This ends up her. Of being it

Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay
That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be getting a
decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay more for the
food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a tax on junk food
won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from overconsuming junk foods,
but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s something that s not going to
happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that smoking is taxed because it s pernicious
not only to the person concerned, but the society around them and even though smoking is taxed,
people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but
the number of people that smoke has decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the
government puts a tax on junk food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed.
The government needs to establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit
and vegetables and promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes
and obesity and the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will
mean that more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. At the moment junk food is
ludicrously cheap; you just have to go into your local supermarket to see that a bottle of

Essay on Florianne by Daniel Woodrell
A horrific event may change life entirely. Even worse, an unsolved mystery regarding a loved one may
lead to despair and restrain a person from moving on. While knowing the truth may bring a feeling of
closure, inquietude and uneasiness may ensue uncertainty. The short story Florianne, written by Daniel
Woodrell, tells about a father whose entire life revolves around the mysterious disappearance of his
daughter. Even eleven years after she vanished he still hasn t begun to move on. Throughout the story
the reader may interpret the disappearance with different approaches. One may either assume that the
daughter was kidnapped, or that she ran away herself from her home and the small town life. The ...

Florianne comes from the word flora, which is the Latin word for flower. It s derived from the word
flos, with the meaning flower or blossom.. In the story there s described a change in Florianne s
character and behavior. The narrator says ... the girl ran to fat for so long, had a roly poly figure until
the year before she went gone...That meant so much to her, to finally have a figure clothes looked
good on (page 42, lines 4 10). Florianne blossomed before she vanished. Henry also blames Florianne
s weight gain on her mother while describing her figure as a roly poly figure. He s to some extent
(14:6) bullied Florianne and just a year before she disappeared she found the strength and
determination to change her body and her life. This course of action can be interpreted as... She gains
control over her life and in contrast to her father s self pity, she s going to take action over her fate,
just like her mother did.
Daniel Woodrell succeeds in creating a short story which forces the reader to consider different
scenarios. Paranoia and obsession are luring beneath the surface of a protagonist portrayed as a
desperate father unable to move on. Daniel Woodrell shows how a tragic event may consume a person
as well as leave said person in denial and without the opportunity to proceed. And while the upfront
possibility that the father is true in his assumption that his daughter was

  • 2. John Okada s No-No Boy The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of all a chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly recognizable during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, ordering 120,000 Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John Okada s novel, No No Boy, a closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the events of the protagonist, Ichiro. It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions and connections that are unattainable from an ordinary historical document. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No no boy makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking around proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that he is American which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to be Japanese because he did not know the language and was consumed with anger and hatred towards his parents because even they weren t any less Japanese even after living in America for thirty five years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada, 19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. However, Ichiro s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But some industry professionals have and provided their insight into the fracking process. Jaycee was 11 when she was abducted. She was never able to look forward to her first day of high school. She was never able to have a sixteenth birthday party. She never had the chance to get her license like every other normal teenager. She could only dream of going to her senior prom. Jaycee Dugard was merely a hostage throughout her entire childhood, and most of her young adult life. The horrendous act of being held captive for 18 years has truly changed Jaycee s outlook on life. She has now been able to move forward and write two memoirs of her life in captivity. But, her story is grueling and has taken a toll. Her story has shed light on the problems society faces in abductions and the way justice systems respond to them. The story also shows the holes our justice system has and what needs to be done to fix them. In Jaycee s situation, when she was kidnapped the media got involved and the family pleaded for their daughter back. But, after a long period of time hope was given up. There was an increase in the rates of juvenile delinquency after dropping out from school [2]. Juveniles who go to school consistently and have a strong academic performance, ideally go on to college and have a successful career and bright future [1]. Classroom pets are well known since they help kids learn important lessons, but they have also been known to hurt things in schools. Classroom pets hurt the animals, and support cruel pet trade and are unhealthy. Clearly, classrooms pets are a very bad idea. First of all, we shouldn t have classrooms pets is that it hurts the animals lives and their ways of life. Some evidence from source 1 that supports this is: pets come from come from awful breeding facilities where they ve been kept in horrific and filthy conditions. This means that people who do horrible things to animals actually gain from some class pets bought off them. Sometimes a class that can t care for the pet gives it away to these people. These bad conditions can cause a pet to catch a disease, which could be carried to the classrooms. These people are bad, but won t be going out of business to soon if we keep supporting them. More information that supports pets hurting kids from source 1 is, Bacteria such as salmonella can be spread by the handling of reptiles and frogs, and rodents such as hamsters can carry transmittable diseases. This shows that the good intentions of helping kids learn life lessons can not only hurt the animals, but the people around the animals too. If the Rangers win the West, then they will be guaranteed a spot in the ALDS where they will get to play in a five game series. Cold: Delino DeShields I m a huge DeShields fan, what he has brought to the table has been absolutely huge for the Rangers. His ability to swipe bags and be a threat on the base paths is something this lineup needed, and he has certainly brought it. That being said, DeShields has struggled over the course of the past week. DeShields is hitting a putrid .154 (2 for 13) with a double and two runs scored. Through the use of the image of slavery, Henry managed to paint a clear picture of how the situation was, therefore, making it easier for him to emphasize the need for America s independence. Also, Henry uses a change in the volume of his voice in his video speech to appeal to the emotions of his fellow delegates. Henry begins his speech in a normal tone of voice, but throughout the video, his voice gradually gets louder with time, and in the end, he shouts his concluding line, give me liberty, or give me death! [4] This gradual volume change in Henry s voice enabled him to appeal to the feelings of his audience effectively, and eventually emphasize on his message of fighting for liberty. At the beginning of Henry s speech, he was aware of the fact that not every delegate supported his idea of fighting British rule; some wanted America to make peace and reconciliation with Britain. He politely acknowledged different men often see the same subject in different lights [5] and that his aim was to express his sentiments unreservedly regarding the debate on whether Americans should fight for their freedom or remain enslaved by the British rule. Henry hoped his fellow delegates would not see his sentiments as disrespectful. • 12. Planet of the Apes Essay Planet of the Apes When Planet of the Apes opened in theaters, few people knew what to expect. To most, the idea of a movie with the premise of a planet full of intelligent apes went against everything they had been taught. The initial attraction was the superb cast, spearheaded by Charlton Heston who portrays Taylor, an astronaut who crashes onto the planet. Heston was joined by many popular actors and actress such as, Roddy McDowell as Cornelius, Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Kim Hunter as Zira. Though the cast may have been the initial draw, the content is what has made the movie Planet of the Apes a classic that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come. To us, having one individual controlling both seems not only preposterous, but also dangerous. The American mind immediately concludes that a system such as this will lead to stagnation in science, and close mindedness in religion. In Planet of the Apes this stagnation does occur. When a young upstart scientist named Cornelius tries to attack the religiously based view of life in his society he is brought up on charges of heresy. Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man. Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with charges of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view on the origins of life in the 1800 s, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him. This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things that have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity s own shortcomings more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On one level, Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another level, the director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and are therefore doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the film. Planet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster Summary Is it morally right to boil a lobster alive for culinary enjoyment? David Foster Wallace displays his confusion on this subject in his informative essay titled Consider the Lobster. . He informs you about the famed Maine Lobster Festival, where more than 25,000 pounds of fresh caught lobster is prepared and consumed. He then goes into detail about the debate on the morality of such an event. There are a lot of questions raised in this essay, and the lobster is the focus of all of them. Wallace asks people to investigate their own feelings when he asks them to consider how comfortable it is for people to boil lobsters alive, how much pain the lobster is in when it is being prepared, and what it is like to be in the shoes of this crustacean. The purpose of this essay was to inform the people and get them to consider the integrity of our most common cooking method when it comes to the lobster. First of all, the experience of boiling a creature alive tends to feel quite uncomfortable for a lot of people, and there s no avoiding that. Wallace says that it s not just that lobsters get boiled alive, it s that you do it yourself or at least it s done specifically for you, on site (703). This tends to feel almost selfish due to the fact that the animal is suffering for your enjoyment. To make matters worse, the intimacy of this process is at a maximum when performed in your own home. It was delivered to both a live audience as well as broadcast via the channel of television and radio to a wider Australian audience, especially to the Aboriginal audience. He adopts an appropriate and respectful tenor which in turns fosters a formal register to accommodate the solemnity of the topic. Advantages of Occlusion training Now moving onto the advantages, one of PF s best benefits is the fact that you will dramatically boost fat burning throughout your body, this is because when you eat food your body spends couple of hours changing the food into simpler nutritional units such as amino acids and simple sugars. Therefore when you are in a normal eating schedule, your body will actually use the food you ate throughout the day or the past hours to provide itself with energy and other required nutrients and vitamins. Based on my personal observations, the biggest asset to South Street in regard to safety and overall quality of the area are the locals who reside there. This idea of community investment relating to the safety of a street is presented in Jane Jacob s novel The Death and Life of Great American Cities and is one of her ideas that is accurately displayed throughout South Street. The main downside to having these strangers present on the streets is the fact that they have virtually no ties to the area. Due to the fact that many of these visitors have little to no investment in the quality and safety of South Street, they play a seemingly small role in the safety of the sidewalk. The media likes to entice people with catchy slogans, celebrities or any other setup just so they can obtain our money. Once they grasp our attention we realize most of these attention grabbers had no relation to their argument or what they are trying to sell. Thus the correct term for the types of misleading ads and television commercials is called informal fallacies. The purpose of an informal fallacy can be to enact reactions from the audience, used to discredit a person or lastly appeal to a certain outlook. They mainly lack the validity in order to prove their argument. The media provides us with many scenarios using different forms of informal fallacies. I will provide three notable examples of informal fallacies by explaining the type of fallacy and why the media used this fallacy. To start off, I should first differentiate between a formal and informal fallacy. A formal argument is when the argument lacks the correct structural form. The form of the fallacy will then be able to tell us if the fallacy is valid or invalid. The difference is in the way the argument is written, informal fallacies lack context in order to make the argument. General audiences are attracted to films due to the choice of actors and a general interest in the story, but the most complex mechanisms of successful films are rarely spoken of or noticed. The choice of color scheme, set design, and props, are all various ways in which the director adds their stamp of creative concept. When all of these components are blended, they create the mood, tone, and style of the of movie. The Classical Period Of The Baroque Era The Classical time period, which spanned a length of seventy years, from 1750 to 1820, was very different in nature from its predecessor, the Baroque time period. The Baroque era featured works that were ornamentally elaborate, where the artists and composers centered their works on a big, bold style that was dramatic in its composition. Artists and composers transferred strong feelings of tension and emotion into their works and it was common for there to be some type of action or movement happening within the work. Those who lived in the Classical time period, valued simplicity and wanted to return to the ideals of the Greeks. Therefore, the Classical time period is characterized by clear structural clarity, simplicity, smoothness, and symmetry. • 38. Gerald Ford Biography Following his defeat in the 1976 presidential election, Gerald Ford retired to Rancho Mirage, California. Thereafter, Ford appeared frequently in public as a speaker, lecturing for private audiences and on university campuses. In his post presidential years, Ford wrote a number of books, including an account of his presidency, A Time to Heal (1979), and Humor and the Presidency (1987). Always very athletic, Ford continued to enjoy the game of golf. However, Ford s exit from Washington did not immediately end his political ambitions. He surprised most observers when he entered into discussions with Ronald Reagan in 1980 about running on the Republican ticket with the former governor of California. However, Ford took the offer to the media (specifically to CBS anchor Walter Cronkite in a convention interview); feeling betrayed, an angry Reagan withdrew the offer, which ultimately went to George H.W. Bush. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ford emerged as an elder statesman in the Republican Party. Likewise, Ford wrote extensively on domestic and foreign policy issues of the day. According to Ross and Wu, people who are educated are less likely to smoke and drink, more likely to be physically active, and get regular health check ups (1995, p. 719). The article claims education is measured by surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42). Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider. According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling completed (2011, p. 2). Leonard Rosenman was born in 1924 and studied music in New York and Europe. His work as a film composer and arranger is very traditional, and has been regarded by some music critics as insignificant. However, Rosenman received Academy Awards and Oscar nominations for his work. Along with film scores, Rosenman wrote theme music and scores for numerous television shows. As a conversation begins, music also begins in the background, yet quickly changes when the gang wants trouble. The music becomes fast, louder, and more suspenseful. The style of mickeymousing, type of score [that] uses music as a literal equivalent to the image (Giannetti, 231), was also used in this same scene. Jim and the character of Buzz are fighting each other with knives, and at every jab of the knife the music changes and becomes more dramatic and even more suspenseful. It is said that, music can serve as a kind of overture to suggest the mood or spirit of the film as a whole (Giannetti, 233). Later on, James Dean s character is asking his father for advice, and the music becomes quiet, slow and mysterious. Another scene where the score plays a vital role in the atmosphere is during an argument with Jim and his parents. Jim and his father are yelling, and when Jim grabs his father as if to hit him, the music turns scary and very intense. Along with background music, sound effects play more of a role on the way we feel than many moviegoers think, and although the function of sound effects is primarily atmospheric, they can also be precise sources of meaning in film (Giannetti, 225). Person Centred has various definitions yet not one that s universally accepted. Debra De Silva in her review for The Health Foundation describes it as supporting people to make informed decisions about, and to successfully manage, their own health and care, yet able to make informed decisions and choose when to invite others to act on their behalf (2014, pg. 2). It essentially means that the care given places the patient in control and everything else is built around that. Professor Don Berwick sums it up as the experience of transparency, individualisation, recognition, respect, dignity, and choice in all matters, without exception, related to one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many components of implementing person centred coordinated care but I ll highlight those I feel are important. Firstly, evidence shows that there needs to be a fundamental understanding that patient choice matters. According to Hartley and Benington (2010, pp. 2 5) there are greater expectations from patients and communities for more personalised and flexible care. Research shows that a patient s decision regarding treatment change when they re well informed and this can only mean a better experience of care for a patient. For example, an international Cochrane Review that included 11 trials involving major elective surgeries showed that demand declined by 20% after patients became well informed (Mulley et al, 2012). This also leads to greater convenience for patients and having the option to go where they like and when they like for care can only become a reality when true integration and coordination is achieved within the healthcare system. This relies on clinicians accepting that they don t know best when it comes to patient preferences and letting them decide their own preferences for receiving care and the settings where to receive it. I was involved in a service redesign for the phlebotomy service at Burton Hospitals NHS foundation trust where patients wanted a service that operated earlier then the normal opening time of 9:00 am. When our client, Mark, came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a quality, informed decision. The criteria are as follows: Mark has a daily commute of 10km on average per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000 with which to buy the car, so the chosen models must be under $70,000. Aside from city life, Mark runs a cattle station with rugged terrain, so the car must also be up to scratch off road. Both the Toyota Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero fit these criteria, and in order to create the fairest evaluation, the Pajero Exceed, valued at $66,500 and the Toyota Prado GXL (valued at $69,000), thus eliminating price as a contending factor. Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be getting a decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay more for the food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a tax on junk food won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from overconsuming junk foods, but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s something that s not going to happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that smoking is taxed because it s pernicious not only to the person concerned, but the society around them and even though smoking is taxed, people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but the number of people that smoke has decreased by a reasonable amount.
