Insane Short Stories

about them before. Insane, killers, murderers ... Monsters. They were dead, supposed to be dead,
supposed to be fake and all the stories false, and yet there was one right behind her, chasing her,

thanked her and gave her a game cartridge with the words Majora s Mask in permanent marker on it,

Vehicle Seatbelts
Advances in automotive technology and regulations have contributed to the decrease in car accidents.
The chances of dying in a crash in newer vehicle models have decrease by more than a third in the last
years. The main factors that contribute to safer vehicles are improved structural designs and the
inclusion of passive safety features. Even with this car accidents are still the ninth leading cause of
death among people of ages 15 to 29. The federal government mandated the presence of seatbelts in
the 1960 s, Anti lock brake systems came in the 1970 s. In the 80 s and the 90 s more strict laws about
drunk driving and seat belt used came along . (HIS.org). Surprisingly, even with all these
improvements if action is not taken, operator mistakes

The Test That Will Be Uses
Selection of test
The test that will be uses is a one way ANOVA test. A one way ANOVA test involved the analysis of
the difference between means of three or more groups and the variance within the groups (Salkind,
2013). The research scenario is looking at the difference between three groups which are individuals
who cannot to identify hypertension lifestyle factors, can identify some hypertension lifestyle factors
and can identify all hypertension lifestyle factors and their willingness to engage in self care in
addition to the variance within the groups. In addition, in a one way ANOVA there is one factor or
independent variable and within the research scenario there is one factor which is identifying
hypertension lifestyle factors (Salkind, 2013).
Step 2: Level of significance
The research scenario does not pose a high risk to the participants involved, therefore the level of
significance will bet set to 0.05. A level of significance at 0.05 means that the researcher has accepted
5 cases out of 100 for committing a type I error of rejecting the null when it is true and accepting the
research hypothesis (Salkind, 2013). The remaining 95 cases out of 100 a true null hypothesis is
accepted (Salkind, 2013).
Step 3: Selection of one tailed or two tailed test
An ANOVA test strictly looks at the overall difference between the means of groups and the variance
within groups, ANOVA test does not tell you where the difference lies, therefore there is no direction

Examples Of Racism In The Movie Crash
The 2004 film: Crash , featured actors such as; Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, and Terrence Howard. A
quote from Simon Braund with the website Empire, that specialises in movie reviews; A haunting,
perceptive and uncompromising examination of controversial subject matter... (Braund). I personally,
was left in tears and had an overflow of emotions by the time the film ended. Crash , had many
examples of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, that live in our societies today; and the
struggles that come along with them. To begin, one thing I immediately noticed about this film; was
the amount of social constructs that were shown. When taking notes, it felt like my penil never left the
paper as I wrote down all the things I saw. The amount of racism that is present is just overwhelming.
The first example of this shown in the movie, was when Farhad, and his Daughter Dorri, who are both
Persian; are attempting to purchase a handgun. The shopkeeper becomes frustrated when they begin to
speak in a foreign language. He then refuses to let Farhad buy a gun, gets extremely loud and forces
him out of the store. Also very plentiful in the film; stereotyping. Within the first five minutes, there
was already a dispute; between Ria, who is a Latina woman and an Asian woman who was unnamed.
The Asian woman had just rear ended Ria, and she began to make remarks about how Mexican
women can t drive. This was very offensive as to define Ria by her race, but also because she is not

The Myth Of Robber Barons
The Myth of Robber Barons discusses some of the major entrepreneurs in of the United States from
1850 to 1910. Burton Folsom also discusses these entrepreneur s key role in their fields and the whole
economy of the United States. The entrepreneurs discussed are Commodore Vanderbilt, James J. Hill,
The Scranton s Group, Charles Schwab, John D. Rockefeller, and Andrew Mellon. We know these
men as Robber Barons, but Folsom argues that these entrepreneurs succeeded by producing quality
product and service at a competitive price. He compares so called Robber Barons to the political
entrepreneurs who rely heavily on government subsidy and make no improvement. Burton Folsom

Market entrepreneurs, by contrast, often made decisive and unpredictable contributions to American
economic development. Vanderbilt started off by carrying customers from the Elizabeth to New York
in low costs. He became famous because of his low fares and cunning personality. A breakthrough
came in Vanderbilt business when the court broke Fulton monopoly by the result of Gibbons vs Ogden
trial, which stated that only federal government could regulate interstate commerce not the states.
Vanderbilt eventually beat Fulton by lowering rates to record numbers, earning reputation, and
investing in new technology and lookout for the future. Later in the chapter, Folsom introduces
William Walker who hurt Vanderbilt business form the central America by overthrowing the
government in Nicaragua. Vanderbilt had already built a canal through Nicaragua for his ships rather
than going from Panama Canal to lower the rates. But, Walker shipped an army to Nicaragua and
made himself president and denied Vanderbilt rights to the canal, which he helped to build. This led
Vanderbilt to dabble a bit into politics and later overthrew Walker but there was no avail because
Walker s coup had already destroyed the canal. Folsom concludes the chapter by saying, Since
Vanderbilt ended up as the richest man in America, perhaps the

A Reflection On Race
Reflection 3: Race Race is a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by
physical characteristics, such as skin, eyes, and hair. Race is the one thing that surrounds us and helps
form us without even thinking. People don t think twice about judging someone and guessing their
race. It happens naturally now when you first look or meet someone. Race also is involved with a
variety of values, assumption, and historical meaning. That explains why people who don t believe in
stereotypes can easily recite them. In the 1900s, deciding who was an american and who was not was
a significant thing that was going on. The film states, Whiteness was not just being a skin color, to be
white was to gain the full rewards of american citizenship. In other words, if you weren t considered
white, you lived a struggled life. The ideal thing in the 1900s was to be considered white because that
is when you were able to have the most opportunities and do something for family. The film also
explains that in 1909 courts and legislators would determine who was white. People started question
how the would work out in the sufficient way but the problem was that different states would consider
different things. For example, In Virginia you were considered black if you had 1/16 of black in you.
While in Florida it was 1/8 but Alabama considered you black if you had any black in you. In other
words people could walk across a state line and change race. Therefore, people question what is the
main criteria for being American . The film states that you would have to gain full rewards of
american citizenship to be considered white and it had to be decided through a judge. This leads to a
large amount of flaws. For instance, in 1915 Leo Frank, a jew in atlanta was pulled from jail and hung
for killing a white girl. People started to question what was white and if a Jew could be considered a
white man. People who were seen as non american were seen as the enemy. They strip them of their
civil liberties and put them in internment camps. This start becoming a problem because what
becomes our country if most people are getting kicked out and killed. The problem was that there was
no exact way to calculate if you were

Final Reflection For Research Paper
Final Reflection Sandy Wisneski
Technology is often used for the wrong reasons in the classroom. Teachers find a new idea and jump
on the technology band wagon without considering if this is the best use for the digital tool. When
planning lessons using technology, consideration needs to made as to how the tool will enhance the
lesson or will it just be an added feature.
I love the challenge of new technology and am always on the lookout for ways to engage students in
my classroom. I do have a strong background with technology but found new tidbits to add to my
repertoire when using the Google Apps. Since most of my information was gained through my own
investigation, it was helpful to dig deeper into what Google offers. When integrating any new
applications into the classroom, digital citizenship is an essential building block. Students need to
respect technology and connecting with others the same way we do face to face. This is critical when
working collaboratively in a Google doc or slideshow. Netiquette needs to be modeled and taught. I
appreciated lessons on copyright included in this course. We spend several lessons going over what

Marital Infidelity And Sexual Infidelity
Marital infidelity is one of the most common reasons that couples seek counseling (Fife, Weeks,
Gambescia, 2008). Previous research (Beaulieu Pelletier, Philippe, Lecours, Couture, 2011; Fish,
Pavkov, Wetchler, Bercik, 2012) has shown that adult attachment styles affect rates of infidelity and
could potentially be used to understand infidelity in married couples. The following proposal gives a
brief description of attachment theory, the definition of infidelity used in previous research, some
counseling implications for working with infidelity in couples counseling, and finally, the potential for
using attachment styles in the treatment of infidelity. The purpose of forming this understanding of
attachment styles in the treatment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sense of security allows the individual to explore their world. These authors conclude that there
are four main responsibilities of an attachment figure: (1) remaining close to the individual, (2) acting
as a safe place when the individual needs to be comforted, (3) serving as a home base from which the
individual can explore their world, and (4) being worried when the individual is not available. After
years of research on adult attachment, rather than measuring differences in categories like infant
attachment, individuals are measured on two aspects of insecurity. These are attachment related
anxiety and attachment related avoidance. Attachment related anxiety is the need to be close to
attachment figures and worry about whether the attachment figure will be supportive and comforting.
Attachment related avoidance is a sense of being uncomfortable in close relationships, avoiding being
dependent on others, and wanting emotional distance from an attachment figure (Selcuk, Zayas,
Hazan, 2010). Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) proposed that because a person can have positive or
negative aspects of both dimensions, then there are four combinations of attachment related anxiety
and avoidance that individuals can experience in close relationships. The first of these is a secure and
healthy attachment when an individual feels supported and comforted and feels that they are worthy of
these actions from other people. Johnson (2005)

Night Reflection
After going through a traumatic event, we usually gain a hatred for the person(s) that may have caused
it, or acted the events out. It changes us as a person and affects our whole well being, sometimes
transferring who we used to be, maybe even making less compassionate and changing our outlook of
the world. In Elie Wiesel s, Night, we watch as Eliezer goes through brutal events and attempts to
remain faithful to God and his Father, and he only slightly succumbs to the lack of compassion of the
other prisoners, towards the end, as he loses hope but soon regains it after he is saved. Before leaving
his home, Eliezer was a very religiously devoted boy, even going against his father s wishes and
studying Jewish oral law with a pauper, Moshe. One evening, I told him how unhappy I was not to be
able to find in Sighet a master to teach me the Zohar...And Moishe the Beadle, the poorest of the poor
in Sighet, spoke to me for hours on end about the Kabbalah s revelations and its mysteries, thus began
my initiation (Night 4). Eliezer s father had told him he was simply not old enough the study the
Zohar, but he knew deep down that he was ready and found his own master to help him with his
studies, showing his faithfulness in his religion. He was also emotionally attached to his faith, as he
was questioned whenever he would cry during his prayers. Later in the book, after being in the camp
for a while, a questioning of his religious faith comes into play, Never shall I forgot those

The s Opinion On Monogamy
Gordeau s opinion on monogamy relates well in theory and reinforces current societal norms .
However, her argument lacks research to support her view, while giving few examples of the benefits
of monogamy she relinquishes any depth and breadth in her opinion, leaving out any clarity on this
matter.
Gordeau s points...
Humans are among just 3% of mammals that form pair bonds, she says. (Taverner p. 74) Only 3% of
mammals pair bonds is an extremely low percentage and does not support the case for monogamy.
Moreover, I would argue this is a point for non monogamy and state it is more natural not to mate for
life than to continue a monogamous relationship, because 97% mammals do not form pair bonds.

It created more variety in the woman s family line, doubled a man s potential offspring, and served as
an insurance policy against spouses death. (Taverner p. 74) Gourdeau stating this point supports non
monogamous relationships instead of monogamous because it gives an example of why cheating has
benefits. Furthermore, she then dives into a study about the difficulties of staying faithful.
Anderson s study on monogamy doesn t work because of our pornified culture, people will become
habituated (bored) with their partner faster and experience an increased desire to see sex with others.
(Taverner p. 74) Again, Gourdeau makes a statement in her article providing research on opposing her
position on monogamy. Moreover, she only states Anderson sampled a narrow demographic, however,
she never explains how this point supports monogamy.
Gourdeau states, humans want sex with multiple people it doesn t mean they need it or that it s in their
best interest. (Taverner p. 75) Personally I agree with this statement. However, much can be said for
flipping this statement around for non monogamous relationships. Moreover, wellness is about finding
a balance. Individuals could seek to find a balance with multiple partners.
Logical and/or theoretical benefits of monogamy include; a personal more intimate relationship that
will assist with self esteem, avoidance of STI s, conforms with social norms,

To What Extent is Marxist Criticism Helpful in Opening Up...
A Marxist reading enables the critic to see Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, as not simply an anti war novel
but a satirical representation of the absurdity of American bureaucracy and capitalism, and thus shows
the extent to which the situation at the time was of concern to Heller. The novel takes place in Italy
during World War II and the novel follows Yossarian who is a part of an air squadron yet Heller
confirms that The elements that inspired the ideas came to me from the civilian situation in this
country in the 1950s . Marxist literary criticism claims writers are formed by their social contexts.

Yossarian is reduced to the equivalent of a bedpan , the lowest of the low, a humiliating comparison.
Such an allusion to a vulgar object demonstrates the impersonality and callous inhumanity of war,
where courage, bravery and humans themselves account for little. Yossarian here is illustrated as a
mere production unit, a worker . Marxist critics argue that capitalism, which dominates US politics,
turns peoples into things, it reifies them. In Marxist terms, such a capitalist mode of production
generates a materialistic view of the world, in which ultimately all of us function as objects and
become alienated from ourselves.
Yossarian cannot go home because his superiors require him for their own personal gain, and it makes
no difference what justification they might give for making him stay. The rest of Yossarian s squadron
has a false consciousness ; they are accepting of the overbearing military system, ironically calling
Yossarian, crazy . They re trying to kill me, Yossarian told him calmly. Clevinger answered. They re

Introduction. Rms Titanic Sank In The North Atlantic Ocean

RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of 15 April 1912, after colliding

Of the 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making it one of the deadliest
commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The largest ship afloat at the time it

The pendulum s point of contact is instrumented, with a readout of forces electronically recorded in
millisecond detail [Figure 1].
A piece of modern high quality steel was tested along with the coupon from the hull steel. Both
coupons were placed in a bath of alcohol at 1°C to simulate the conditions on the night of the Titanic
disaster. When the coupon of the modern steel was tested, the pendulum swung down and halted with
a thud; the test piece had bent into a V. However, when the coupon of the Titanic steel was tested, the
pendulum struck the coupon with a sharp ping, barely slowed, and continued up on its swing; the
sample, broken into two pieces, sailed across the room [1].
The Rivets: The wrought iron rivets that fastened the hull plates to the Titanic s main structure also
failed because of brittle fracture from the high impact loading of the collision with the iceberg and the
low temperature water on the night of the disaster. With the ship travelling at nearly 25 mph, the
contact with the iceberg was probably a series of impacts that caused the rivets to fail either in shear or
by elongation [2]. As the iceberg scraped along sections of the Titanic s hull, the rivets were sheared
off, which opened up riveted seams. Also, because of the tremendous forces created on impact with
the iceberg, the rivet heads in the areas of contact were simply popped off,

Mentoring In The Mentorship Summary
Text Purpose Dr. Lois Zachary provides a well organized, hands on approach to research based
mentoring in The Mentor s Guide: Facilitating Effective Learning Relationships (2012). This book
serves as an excellent introduction for an individual new to the mentoring role; it is also a resource for
current mentors. Zachary (2012) provides solid examples, concrete exercises, and a roadmap for
building an effective mentoring relationship. Mentors in the business world, nonprofit organizations,

Zachary presents the mentorship as a learning partnership between mentor and mentee. This reinforces
my understanding of the nature of adult learning and the notion that the mentor is less an authority
figure and more of a facilitator. In my work as a mentor for special education directors, I will utilize
Zachary s four stage approach for encouraging learning and promoting change. This reading has
helped me to see mentorship as a process with distinctive components, as defined by Zachary (2012).
During the preparation phase, I will focus on ensuring I fully understand the reasoning behind the
mentoring relationship (Zachary 2012). I will accomplish this through personal reflection and a
collaborative discussion with the mentee. I will remember that this phase sets the tone for the
relationship. The next step, negotiating, is the business stage and the time when mentoring partners
come to an agreement on the learning goals and define the content and process of the relationship
(Zachary 2012). It is essential that during this phase I facilitate the conversation to enable a productive
meeting and set measurable goals with aligned activities that will ensure they attain their goals. Part of
the stage that I need to work on is creating a shared understanding of boundaries and limits. I will
accomplish this through communicating the delineation between the mentor and mentee s role and
responsibilities. The third stage, the enabling phase, takes the longest amount of time because it is
when the implementation of the learning occurs (Zachary 2012). During this period, I will support the
mentee s learning by communicating the goals and providing thoughtful and timely feedback and
encouragement. I will ensure that additional time is dedicated to supporting the mentee s work. Before
reading this book, I was less confident during this phase and

The Effects Of Prenatal Care On Children
Discussion
Traditionally, pregnancy is a celebrated occasion but for women who live in poverty this life changing
event can be wrought with uncertainty and apprehension. Typically, new mothers living in poverty are
most likely already facing multiple stressors such as unemployment, unfavorable living conditions,
substandard environment and threats of violence. Additionally, the increased physical demands and
need for supplemental financial resources consistent with a new pregnancy are more likely to leave a
mother living in poverty feeling overwhelmed and depressed. One of the ways expanded Medicaid
coverage can reduce this burden is by facilitating improved access to medical care for both the mother
and her unborn child.
Multiple definitive studies have proven that mothers who have access to adequate prenatal care have
fewer miscarriages, less birth defects and give birth to healthier babies. The United States, despite
being one of the richest countries in the world has a lower rate of infant survival when compared to
other developed nations and decreased access to prenatal care exacerbates this statistic. Prenatal care
not only gives new mothers access to medical, education and nutritional resources but serves an
opportunity to identify babies at risk for delivering preterm or suffer from low birth weight (Alexander
Cornely, 1986). Data derived from the 1980 National Natality Survey associated a higher instance of
low birth weight with inadequate prenatal

Essay on The Dangers of Chlamydia
What is Chlamydia? It is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial infection in the U.S. Its full
name is chlamydia trachomatis. It is a kind of bacteria that can infect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus,
urethra, or eye. What does chlamydia cause? It causes PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), Sterility,
and even death. Some common symptoms include: fever, fatigue, severe lower abdominal pain, lower
abdominal tenderness, enlargement of the fallopian tubes, and vaginal discharge. There are many other
things that Chlamydia can lead to.
Chlamydia often produces no symptoms. 60% of women and 40% of men have no symptoms. This is

Usually, chlamydia has no symptoms. Up to 85 percent of women and 40 percent of men with
chlamydia have no symptoms. Most people are not aware that they have the infection. When
symptoms do occur, they may begin in as little as 5 10 days after infection.
Chlamydia affects men and women differently. Some common symptoms that men experience may be
mild burning while urination and, in some men, the symptoms might disappear but in most cases the
infection is still there. Some other common symptoms include watery, white penile discharges, which
sometimes happen only in the morning, and can disappear. This does not mean that the infection is
gone. The other symptom is testicle pain. Chlamydia also makes men sterile. It can spread from the
urethra to the testicles. Then it can result in a condition called epididymitis. Epididymitis can cause
sterility. Chlamydia causes more than 250,000 cases of epididymitis in the U.S. every year. Another
danger of chlamydia for men is Reiter s syndrome. Reiter s syndrome causes severe arthritis, and
immobilizes many men. Of the estimated one and a half million men in the U.S. who get chlamy die
each year one percent 15,000 may develop Reiter s syndrome. Perhaps one third of these men 5,000
will become permanently disabled each year.
Chlamydia poses a huge danger to females as well. The most severe complication of chlamydia is the
risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). As a result of infection to women it

An Exploration of Media and its Effects on Social...
Media is becoming an important aspect of today s society. Each and every day, people interact with
media of many different forms. Media is commonly defined as being a channel of communication.
Our everyday lives are saturated by radio, television, newspapers, books, the Internet, movies,
recorded music, magazines, and more. In the twenty first century, we navigate through a vast mass
media environment unprecedented in human history. (Croteau and Hoynes, p. 3)This is also true when
we say media companies do not impose their own control upon the information being supplied to
media users. Since many people use media frequently, we can assume that it affects people. According

Media has taken on an all new meaning to me from just taking this class. I feel truly that this is the
first class I can honestly say, I have learned something and grown because of what I have learned.
Media now is much more than the entertainment, news and advertisements I once thought it was.
We argue that the creators of media content have often reproduced the inequalities that exist in society
based on race, class, gender and sexual orientation. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.195) As a society we are
working our way toward a more equal society. As we know media is present in many aspects of our
lives therefore if they reinstating some of the widely known inequalities, thus reinforcing these
negative aspects of society. We are aware that the few media corporations that are out there are owned
but successful, white men. So when they choose the shows/music/movies they want to produce these
works, will include how they see the world. Thus the reinforcement of inequalities present in our
society. So when society evolves into a more accepting community what happens to the media world?
Creators of media products are often aware of this fact and use entertainment media to comment on
the real social world. (Croteau and Hoynes, p.97) Race refers to the color/ethnic background of a

such as Oxfam, Greenpeace, or the International Red Cross. IGOs and NGOs are important actors in
the governance process. (Hague and Harrop,2001, p.50 ) Multinational companies (MNCs) are also
hugely powerful players on the world stage as nations have often become economically dependent on
the vast amounts of capital which these companies generate. Around fifty percent of world production

pressure on the policy process in the UK merely by suggesting that they will relocate. Companies are

Catherine Earnshaw as a victim and a victimizer. With such qualities, Catherine s character was
violently at odds with ideals of the Victorian womanhood. Namely, that a woman should be a passive,
obedient, and an angel in the house. (Towheed, 2012). Indeed, not major characteristics of Catherine
Earnshaw. However, while being a victimizer, Catherine s brutality could be justified in a way that
would not affect one s own sympathizes for her. Notably, Catherine s first victim is herself. Her
character was marked by a divided self, an idea that was emphasized by Helene Moglen (1971). She
was shattered between a desire to remain a free, wild child and her aspiration to maintain her family
status and respectability. Identically, this struggle is also evident in her divided attraction for both
Heathcliff and Edgar Linton. According to Correa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This certainly had an influence on the second Catherine s character formation and her susceptibility to
the later manipulation she encounters. Nevertheless, while many critics saw that young Cathy had
enjoyed a harmless childhood with her father, her journey towards maturity and womanhood is
anything, but safe or healthy. In fact, she falls into the list of her mother s victims for being both the
subject of Heathcliff s contempt and a tool in his revenge. After enjoying a calm and innocent
childhood under Mr. Edgar s supervision, young Cathy undergoes seduction, manipulation,
incarceration, forced marriage and eventually maltreatment by Heathcliff. Nonetheless, in spite of

La Leyenda Negra: Myth or Reality.
La Leyenda Negra also known as the Black legend is propaganda about the Spaniards and their
empire. It is a term that gathers all accusations against Spain and it indicates the unfavorable image of
cruelty and basically embodies a belief that Spaniards are evil, greedy and fanatical people. La

inquisitorial Spain. It circulated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This isn t a place for personal opinions so I ll simply tell this in a completely unbiased manner. So,
everyone asks why isn t Islam the majority religion of the Philippines? Just look at it, it s in a group of
islands inhabited by Muslims. It s semi surrounded by Muslim island nations. Prior to the arrival of
the Spanish, the Philippines was an Islamic state for the most part. Various Muslim empires ruled the
Philippines, like for example Mindanao and Visayas were ruled by Malays. Luzon, was ruled by
Arabs. Other parts were Hindu and Buddhist empires. The Spanish, had just finished off a Muslim
kingdom that had once ruled the Iberian Peninsula, both Spain and Portugal. When the Spanish got to
the Philippines, they were disgusted by the presence of Muslims. So, they converted 90% of Filipinos
to the Roman Catholic faith. So why wasn t Malaysians and Indonesians converted to Christianity?
This is because the British and Dutch didn t care about convering people. So the Malays got to
practice their faiths freely. Muslims are still a minority in the Philippines, but they often face social
discrimination and social persecution. Which is why, a lot of the Filipino Muslims flee to Malaysia or
Brunei down south. Some Muslims in the Philippines also want independance. That is why I see it a
negative aspect, because religious hatred exists in the Philippines. But I m not a Muslim, I don t agree
with Islamic principles either, I loathe

Louisiana Chemicals Affect Human Health
Louisiana Chemicals: Sources and Human Health
Piers A. Cropp
Lynn University
Following the industrial revolution, societies across the world began to notice strange effects on
individuals throughout certain local communities. Though toxicology was a relatively new and
rudimentary practice at the time, scientists were able to trace these effects back to chemicals being
exposed to industrial workers, their families, and nearby neighborhoods. Unfortunately, industry in the
United States continued to expand with little regard for the effects on human health. As a result from
this expansion the amount of chemicals released into the atmosphere skyrocketed continuously all the
way to present day society. However, as industry expanded so did scientific technology, the
understanding of chemicals, their exposure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ammonia inhalation causes upper respiratory irritation. In a study conducted in 1973, four of six
participants admitted to experiencing irritation of the nose and eyes after an exposure to 50 ppm of
ammonia for 10 minutes. Thirty percent of the participants described nose, eye, and throat irritation at
an exposure of 75 ppm for 5 minutes. However, low occupational exposure over a period of about
fourteen years showed no effect on pulmonary function. However, rare cases of high concentrated
exposure show sever effects. For example, around 1989 an adult male was found unconscious next to
a ruptured pipeline carrying liquid ammonia. He suffered burns on his eyes as well as his skin, and
experienced difficulty breathing. Throughout the following month, he suffered from cases of complete
circulatory collapse (which he was resuscitated from) and eventually died from cardiac arrest.
Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia (2,500 ppm) can potentially lead to cardiovascular
problems including: elevated pulse, rise in blood pressure, and cardiac

Mass Media Communication
Definition
Mass media is a media intended for a large audience. It may take the form of broadcast media, as in
the case of television and radio, or print media, like newspapers and magazines. Internet media can
also attain mass media status, and many media outlets maintain a web presence to take advantage of
the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the
mainstream media, referencing the fact that it tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of
interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Many people around
the world rely on this form of media for news and entertainment, and globally, it is a huge industry.
People often think of mass media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Negative effects of Mass Media for teenagers, The exposure of sex images and excessive portraits of
violence in movies and dramas have instilled negative thoughts and taboos in the mind of these
teenagers for they have been consistently getting increased exposure to things which are not suitable
for their age. Thousands of advertisements on junk food, fast food, soft drink, etc are shown on TV
and heard over radio have indirectly lead to the grown of obesity and anorexia in teenagers. This is
one of the critical global problem of today which is threatening our next generations for being
unhealthy and being exposed to many serious diseases and sicknesses such as diabetes, high blood
pressure, heart problem and anorexia.
Women are obsessive with losing weight even if they are not being fat or obese. This is due to the
influence of the media in portraying that successful women are always thin. Many teenagers,
especially girls were greatly influenced with the slim figure of their favorite celebrity. As a results,
some of these teenage fans were so deep into the dieting and slimming concerns which lead them to
severe health issues and fatal death in serious situation.

Hamlet Character Analysis
Everyone can agree that Hamlet is a classic piece of literature. However, there are many aspects of the
play that are confusing. Horatio is introduced in the first scene of the play, he is talking to some guards
about a strange occurrence. He is brought in as a scholar of good report to identify what is happening.
Fortinbras on the other hand, is first heard of gathering random men to fight for him. He is referred to
as young and untested. We see him only one more time before his appearance at the end of the play. At
the end of the play Fortinbras comes in and is made king. It feels cheap, like Shakespeare had an extra
character floating around and decided to make him the new king, even though Horatio would have
made a great king. Why then, is he just pushed aside for Fortinbras. Throughout the entire play
Horatio is right in the middle of everything. He knows everything that has happened from the very
beginning of the play. Fortinbras has been off taking over some unimportant piece of land. So why,
then, is he allowed to just swoop in at the end and take the position of king. Even Hamlet just pushes
Horatio aside and throws his hat in with Fortinbras. Horatio had to put up with a lot of things
throughout the play and at the end instead of getting a reward of appropriate size befitting his deeds,
Hamlet just tells him to tell my story (V.ii.314). There are a lot of characters that get thrown to the
wayside but Horatio gets it the worst. Horatio had connections to the old royalty and he was well
known to be level headed and a scholar. The biggest thing that Horatio had going for him was that he
was well connected to the old royalty. His main connection was to Hamlet. He had been with Hamlet
since they were kids. He had gone through all of the same schooling. Since he was so close to Hamlet
he also knew everything that was happening in the kingdom from the view of a ruler. With Fortinbras
there will be much more catching up to do, Horatio will probably be called upon to help explain what
had been happening. You could argue that Fortinbras has the training necessary to rule a country.
However, I would argue that Horatio also has similar training. It would be even better for Horatio
because he got the training

1. Introduction
Stylish is a hairdressing business that currently owns and operates two hairdressing salons in inner
Melbourne: Carlton and South Melbourne. The owners of the business (hereon the client) are
interested in expanding their operations, and have identified the Prahran area as a possible location for
the establishing of a third salon. The purpose of this report is to provide preliminary information to the
client about: i) the overall viability of establishing a salon in the Prahran area; and ii) key management
and marketing issues that need to be considered in ensuring the success and profitability of any
proposed new outlet. Note that the study considers the viability of the business in broad management
and marketing terms only; it does not provide a comprehensive financial analysis of the proposed
expansion. In the investigation of these issues, two analytical concepts were used, namely Mega
Environment and Task Environment. The Mega Environment is concerned with the external
environment in which a business operates; the Task Environment considers conditions that a business
faces in its immediate environment (Bartol, Tein, Mathews, Sharma Scott Ladd 2008). Data for the
study came from a range of sources related to both these environments including: industry research

one another. This was the era when the financial gain was good, at lease for the upper class
population. Even though some people made a living illegally, some bought up bonds and saved them.
There were two men that had several similarities in this day and time, but also had a lot of differences.
These men were Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. It was the way that the love came about the money

The entablature and pediment rest on top of the columns, forming post and lintel construction. The
entablature often contains friezes in the Ionic order, and metopes and triglyphs in the Doric. The
metopes were often painted and the triglyphs may have symbolized wood cross beams that would
have been used before the knowledge of stone construction was developed. The Ionic friezes often
contained sculpted figures that relate in some way to the functionality of the temple or building. The
pediment, which rests on the entablature, usually has the shape of an isosceles triangle with sculpture
that varies from low relief to sculpture in the round.
The organization of the columns around the main body of the temple varies in about five major styles.
The first three have a small rectangular shaped building called a cella with two to four columns in
front, as with the in antis style and the prostyle, or with an additional four columns in back as with the
amphiprostyle temples. The last two styles consist of a larger rectangular building divided into two
rooms, one functioning as a cella. These two styles are mainly differentiated by one row of columns
surrounding the structure, called peripteral, or with two rows of columns, called dipteral. If one looks
at the picture with these standards of Greek architecture in mind, some noticeable similarities and
differences occur.

The Effects Of Yoga On The Mind Body Spirit About A Person...
The review of literature on the benefits of yoga show the importance that exists between the mind,
body, and spirit. This review conducted shows the significance of link between the mind body spirit
about a person s overall health.
Diversity in yoga including type, intensity, and duration are what play significant roles in the levels of
perceived health benefits in comparison to traditional exercise. Thus, far stress reduction seems to be
the most proposed benefit associated with yoga therapy, even though time constraints are the most
common barrier. Due to the foreseen benefits of participating in yoga practice, this should generate an
increase on the need of yoga to improve overall health status.
As we continue to understand the important and vital role that yoga practice has will hopefully
continue to emerge in Western culture. As indicated from research, yoga plays a significant role in the
reduction of stress management and reduction of risk factors in chronic disease. In comparison to
traditional forms of medicine, yoga can be an integral part as a holistic alternative.
Yoga has been shown to affect not only mind, body and soul but overall general wellness. Yoga can
affect a multitude of reactions in the body and reap positive benefits on the muscles, organ systems,
glands and quality of life.
Although this literature review shows the potential benefits of including yoga as a part of general
fitness, there still lacks enough research to warrant its impact. For us

They were dead, supposed to be dead, supposed to be fake and all the stories false, and yet there was one right behind her, chasing her, wanting her. He thanked her and gave her a game cartridge with the words Majora s Mask in permanent marker on it, and walked out of the store. She stood there for a moment before looking at the cartridge. It looked old and worn out, but still playable, so she stuck it into her bag and walked out. She went into a bakery across the street and saw two boys, both with masks and one with a yellow hoodie, sitting in a booth in the corner of the room, eating a few slices of cheesecake. As she ordered at the counter, she could feel eyes burning holes into her head, but when she turned around and scanned the room, she saw no one looking or even glancing at her. • 3. Vehicle Seatbelts Advances in automotive technology and regulations have contributed to the decrease in car accidents. The chances of dying in a crash in newer vehicle models have decrease by more than a third in the last years. The main factors that contribute to safer vehicles are improved structural designs and the inclusion of passive safety features. Even with this car accidents are still the ninth leading cause of death among people of ages 15 to 29. The federal government mandated the presence of seatbelts in the 1960 s, Anti lock brake systems came in the 1970 s. A one way ANOVA test involved the analysis of the difference between means of three or more groups and the variance within the groups (Salkind, 2013). The research scenario is looking at the difference between three groups which are individuals who cannot to identify hypertension lifestyle factors, can identify some hypertension lifestyle factors and can identify all hypertension lifestyle factors and their willingness to engage in self care in addition to the variance within the groups. In addition, in a one way ANOVA there is one factor or independent variable and within the research scenario there is one factor which is identifying hypertension lifestyle factors (Salkind, 2013). Step 2: Level of significance The research scenario does not pose a high risk to the participants involved, therefore the level of significance will bet set to 0.05. A level of significance at 0.05 means that the researcher has accepted 5 cases out of 100 for committing a type I error of rejecting the null when it is true and accepting the research hypothesis (Salkind, 2013). The remaining 95 cases out of 100 a true null hypothesis is accepted (Salkind, 2013). Step 3: Selection of one tailed or two tailed test An ANOVA test strictly looks at the overall difference between the means of groups and the variance within groups, ANOVA test does not tell you where the difference lies, therefore there is no direction (Salkind, ... • 5. Examples Of Racism In The Movie Crash The 2004 film: Crash , featured actors such as; Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, and Terrence Howard. A quote from Simon Braund with the website Empire, that specialises in movie reviews; A haunting, perceptive and uncompromising examination of controversial subject matter... (Braund). I personally, was left in tears and had an overflow of emotions by the time the film ended. Crash , had many examples of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, that live in our societies today; and the struggles that come along with them. To begin, one thing I immediately noticed about this film; was the amount of social constructs that were shown. When taking notes, it felt like my penil never left the paper as I wrote down all the things I saw. The amount of racism that is present is just overwhelming. The first example of this shown in the movie, was when Farhad, and his Daughter Dorri, who are both Persian; are attempting to purchase a handgun. The shopkeeper becomes frustrated when they begin to speak in a foreign language. He then refuses to let Farhad buy a gun, gets extremely loud and forces him out of the store. Also very plentiful in the film; stereotyping. Within the first five minutes, there was already a dispute; between Ria, who is a Latina woman and an Asian woman who was unnamed. The Asian woman had just rear ended Ria, and she began to make remarks about how Mexican women can t drive. This was very offensive as to define Ria by her race, but also because she is not ... Burton Folsom also discusses these entrepreneur s key role in their fields and the whole economy of the United States. The entrepreneurs discussed are Commodore Vanderbilt, James J. Hill, The Scranton s Group, Charles Schwab, John D. Rockefeller, and Andrew Mellon. We know these men as Robber Barons, but Folsom argues that these entrepreneurs succeeded by producing quality product and service at a competitive price. He compares so called Robber Barons to the political entrepreneurs who rely heavily on government subsidy and make no improvement. Market entrepreneurs, by contrast, often made decisive and unpredictable contributions to American economic development. Vanderbilt started off by carrying customers from the Elizabeth to New York in low costs. He became famous because of his low fares and cunning personality. A breakthrough came in Vanderbilt business when the court broke Fulton monopoly by the result of Gibbons vs Ogden trial, which stated that only federal government could regulate interstate commerce not the states. Vanderbilt eventually beat Fulton by lowering rates to record numbers, earning reputation, and investing in new technology and lookout for the future. Later in the chapter, Folsom introduces William Walker who hurt Vanderbilt business form the central America by overthrowing the government in Nicaragua. Vanderbilt had already built a canal through Nicaragua for his ships rather than going from Panama Canal to lower the rates. But, Walker shipped an army to Nicaragua and made himself president and denied Vanderbilt rights to the canal, which he helped to build. This led Vanderbilt to dabble a bit into politics and later overthrew Walker but there was no avail because Walker s coup had already destroyed the canal. • 7. A Reflection On Race Reflection 3: Race Race is a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by physical characteristics, such as skin, eyes, and hair. Race is the one thing that surrounds us and helps form us without even thinking. People don t think twice about judging someone and guessing their race. It happens naturally now when you first look or meet someone. Race also is involved with a variety of values, assumption, and historical meaning. That explains why people who don t believe in stereotypes can easily recite them. In the 1900s, deciding who was an american and who was not was a significant thing that was going on. The film states, Whiteness was not just being a skin color, to be white was to gain the full rewards of american citizenship. In other words, if you weren t considered white, you lived a struggled life. The ideal thing in the 1900s was to be considered white because that is when you were able to have the most opportunities and do something for family. The film also explains that in 1909 courts and legislators would determine who was white. People started question how the would work out in the sufficient way but the problem was that different states would consider different things. For example, In Virginia you were considered black if you had 1/16 of black in you. While in Florida it was 1/8 but Alabama considered you black if you had any black in you. In other words people could walk across a state line and change race. Therefore, people question what is the main criteria for being American . The film states that you would have to gain full rewards of american citizenship to be considered white and it had to be decided through a judge. This leads to a large amount of flaws. For instance, in 1915 Leo Frank, a jew in atlanta was pulled from jail and hung for killing a white girl. People started to question what was white and if a Jew could be considered a white man. People who were seen as non american were seen as the enemy. They strip them of their civil liberties and put them in internment camps. This start becoming a problem because what becomes our country if most people are getting kicked out and killed. The problem was that there was no exact way to calculate if you were ... • 8. Final Reflection For Research Paper Final Reflection Sandy Wisneski Technology is often used for the wrong reasons in the classroom. Teachers find a new idea and jump on the technology band wagon without considering if this is the best use for the digital tool. When planning lessons using technology, consideration needs to made as to how the tool will enhance the lesson or will it just be an added feature. I love the challenge of new technology and am always on the lookout for ways to engage students in my classroom. I do have a strong background with technology but found new tidbits to add to my repertoire when using the Google Apps. Since most of my information was gained through my own investigation, it was helpful to dig deeper into what Google offers. When integrating any new applications into the classroom, digital citizenship is an essential building block. Students need to respect technology and connecting with others the same way we do face to face. This is critical when working collaboratively in a Google doc or slideshow. Netiquette needs to be modeled and taught. I appreciated lessons on copyright included in this course. • 9. Marital Infidelity And Sexual Infidelity Marital infidelity is one of the most common reasons that couples seek counseling (Fife, Weeks, Gambescia, 2008). Previous research (Beaulieu Pelletier, Philippe, Lecours, Couture, 2011; Fish, Pavkov, Wetchler, Bercik, 2012) has shown that adult attachment styles affect rates of infidelity and could potentially be used to understand infidelity in married couples. The following proposal gives a brief description of attachment theory, the definition of infidelity used in previous research, some counseling implications for working with infidelity in couples counseling, and finally, the potential for using attachment styles in the treatment of infidelity. These authors conclude that there are four main responsibilities of an attachment figure: (1) remaining close to the individual, (2) acting as a safe place when the individual needs to be comforted, (3) serving as a home base from which the individual can explore their world, and (4) being worried when the individual is not available. After years of research on adult attachment, rather than measuring differences in categories like infant attachment, individuals are measured on two aspects of insecurity. These are attachment related anxiety and attachment related avoidance. Attachment related anxiety is the need to be close to attachment figures and worry about whether the attachment figure will be supportive and comforting. Attachment related avoidance is a sense of being uncomfortable in close relationships, avoiding being dependent on others, and wanting emotional distance from an attachment figure (Selcuk, Zayas, Hazan, 2010). Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) proposed that because a person can have positive or negative aspects of both dimensions, then there are four combinations of attachment related anxiety and avoidance that individuals can experience in close relationships. The first of these is a secure and healthy attachment when an individual feels supported and comforted and feels that they are worthy of these actions from other people. Johnson (2005) ... • 10. Night Reflection After going through a traumatic event, we usually gain a hatred for the person(s) that may have caused it, or acted the events out. It changes us as a person and affects our whole well being, sometimes transferring who we used to be, maybe even making less compassionate and changing our outlook of the world. In Elie Wiesel s, Night, we watch as Eliezer goes through brutal events and attempts to remain faithful to God and his Father, and he only slightly succumbs to the lack of compassion of the other prisoners, towards the end, as he loses hope but soon regains it after he is saved. Before leaving his home, Eliezer was a very religiously devoted boy, even going against his father s wishes and studying Jewish oral law with a pauper, Moshe. One evening, I told him how unhappy I was not to be able to find in Sighet a master to teach me the Zohar...And Moishe the Beadle, the poorest of the poor in Sighet, spoke to me for hours on end about the Kabbalah s revelations and its mysteries, thus began my initiation (Night 4). Eliezer s father had told him he was simply not old enough the study the Zohar, but he knew deep down that he was ready and found his own master to help him with his studies, showing his faithfulness in his religion. He was also emotionally attached to his faith, as he was questioned whenever he would cry during his prayers. However, her argument lacks research to support her view, while giving few examples of the benefits of monogamy she relinquishes any depth and breadth in her opinion, leaving out any clarity on this matter. Gordeau s points... Humans are among just 3% of mammals that form pair bonds, she says. (Taverner p. 74) Only 3% of mammals pair bonds is an extremely low percentage and does not support the case for monogamy. Moreover, I would argue this is a point for non monogamy and state it is more natural not to mate for life than to continue a monogamous relationship, because 97% mammals do not form pair bonds. ...a human woman carried a child in her ... (Taverner p. 74) Gourdeau stating this point supports non monogamous relationships instead of monogamous because it gives an example of why cheating has benefits. Furthermore, she then dives into a study about the difficulties of staying faithful. Anderson s study on monogamy doesn t work because of our pornified culture, people will become habituated (bored) with their partner faster and experience an increased desire to see sex with others. (Taverner p. 74) Again, Gourdeau makes a statement in her article providing research on opposing her position on monogamy. Moreover, she only states Anderson sampled a narrow demographic, however, she never explains how this point supports monogamy. Gourdeau states, humans want sex with multiple people it doesn t mean they need it or that it s in their best interest. (Taverner p. 75) Personally I agree with this statement. However, much can be said for flipping this statement around for non monogamous relationships. Moreover, wellness is about finding a balance. Individuals could seek to find a balance with multiple partners. Logical and/or theoretical benefits of monogamy include; a personal more intimate relationship that will assist with self esteem, avoidance of STI s, conforms with social norms, ... A Marxist reading enables the critic to see Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, as not simply an anti war novel but a satirical representation of the absurdity of American bureaucracy and capitalism, and thus shows the extent to which the situation at the time was of concern to Heller. The novel takes place in Italy during World War II and the novel follows Yossarian who is a part of an air squadron yet Heller confirms that The elements that inspired the ideas came to me from the civilian situation in this country in the 1950s . Such an allusion to a vulgar object demonstrates the impersonality and callous inhumanity of war, where courage, bravery and humans themselves account for little. Yossarian here is illustrated as a mere production unit, a worker . Marxist critics argue that capitalism, which dominates US politics, turns peoples into things, it reifies them. In Marxist terms, such a capitalist mode of production generates a materialistic view of the world, in which ultimately all of us function as objects and become alienated from ourselves. Yossarian cannot go home because his superiors require him for their own personal gain, and it makes no difference what justification they might give for making him stay. RMS means Royal Mail Steamship was a British passenger liner that Of the 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making it one of the deadliest commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, the RMS Titanic was the second of three Olympic class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line, and was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The pendulum s point of contact is instrumented, with a readout of forces electronically recorded in millisecond detail [Figure 1]. A piece of modern high quality steel was tested along with the coupon from the hull steel. Both coupons were placed in a bath of alcohol at 1°C to simulate the conditions on the night of the Titanic disaster. When the coupon of the modern steel was tested, the pendulum swung down and halted with a thud; the test piece had bent into a V. However, when the coupon of the Titanic steel was tested, the pendulum struck the coupon with a sharp ping, barely slowed, and continued up on its swing; the sample, broken into two pieces, sailed across the room [1]. The Rivets: The wrought iron rivets that fastened the hull plates to the Titanic s main structure also failed because of brittle fracture from the high impact loading of the collision with the iceberg and the low temperature water on the night of the disaster. With the ship travelling at nearly 25 mph, the contact with the iceberg was probably a series of impacts that caused the rivets to fail either in shear or by elongation [2]. As the iceberg scraped along sections of the Titanic s hull, the rivets were sheared off, which opened up riveted seams. Also, because of the tremendous forces created on impact with the iceberg, the rivet heads in the areas of contact were simply popped off, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zachary (2012) provides solid examples, concrete exercises, and a roadmap for building an effective mentoring relationship. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zachary presents the mentorship as a learning partnership between mentor and mentee. This reinforces my understanding of the nature of adult learning and the notion that the mentor is less an authority figure and more of a facilitator. In my work as a mentor for special education directors, I will utilize Zachary s four stage approach for encouraging learning and promoting change. This reading has helped me to see mentorship as a process with distinctive components, as defined by Zachary (2012). During the preparation phase, I will focus on ensuring I fully understand the reasoning behind the mentoring relationship (Zachary 2012). I will accomplish this through personal reflection and a collaborative discussion with the mentee. I will remember that this phase sets the tone for the relationship. The next step, negotiating, is the business stage and the time when mentoring partners come to an agreement on the learning goals and define the content and process of the relationship (Zachary 2012). It is essential that during this phase I facilitate the conversation to enable a productive meeting and set measurable goals with aligned activities that will ensure they attain their goals. Part of the stage that I need to work on is creating a shared understanding of boundaries and limits. I will accomplish this through communicating the delineation between the mentor and mentee s role and responsibilities. The third stage, the enabling phase, takes the longest amount of time because it is when the implementation of the learning occurs (Zachary 2012). During this period, I will support the mentee s learning by communicating the goals and providing thoughtful and timely feedback and encouragement. I will ensure that additional time is dedicated to supporting the mentee s work. Before reading this book, I was less confident during this phase and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Effects Of Prenatal Care On Children Discussion Traditionally, pregnancy is a celebrated occasion but for women who live in poverty this life changing event can be wrought with uncertainty and apprehension. Typically, new mothers living in poverty are most likely already facing multiple stressors such as unemployment, unfavorable living conditions, substandard environment and threats of violence. Additionally, the increased physical demands and need for supplemental financial resources consistent with a new pregnancy are more likely to leave a mother living in poverty feeling overwhelmed and depressed. One of the ways expanded Medicaid coverage can reduce this burden is by facilitating improved access to medical care for both the mother and her unborn child. Multiple definitive studies have proven that mothers who have access to adequate prenatal care have fewer miscarriages, less birth defects and give birth to healthier babies. The United States, despite being one of the richest countries in the world has a lower rate of infant survival when compared to other developed nations and decreased access to prenatal care exacerbates this statistic. Prenatal care not only gives new mothers access to medical, education and nutritional resources but serves an opportunity to identify babies at risk for delivering preterm or suffer from low birth weight (Alexander Cornely, 1986). Most people are not aware that they have the infection. When symptoms do occur, they may begin in as little as 5 10 days after infection. Chlamydia affects men and women differently. Some common symptoms that men experience may be mild burning while urination and, in some men, the symptoms might disappear but in most cases the infection is still there. Some other common symptoms include watery, white penile discharges, which sometimes happen only in the morning, and can disappear. This does not mean that the infection is gone. Epididymitis can cause sterility. Chlamydia causes more than 250,000 cases of epididymitis in the U.S. every year. Another danger of chlamydia for men is Reiter s syndrome. In the twenty first century, we navigate through a vast mass media environment unprecedented in human history. (Croteau and Hoynes, p. 3)This is also true when we say media companies do not impose their own control upon the information being supplied to media users. How Is Catherine Earnshaw Character In Wuthering Heights The Dualism of Catherine Earnshaw s Character in Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights is a work marked by a complexity of characterization. Perhaps most complex of all is Emily s portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw as a victim and a victimizer. However, while being a victimizer, Catherine s brutality could be justified in a way that would not affect one s own sympathizes for her. Notably, Catherine s first victim is herself. Her character was marked by a divided self, an idea that was emphasized by Helene Moglen (1971). Prior to the arrival of the Spanish, the Philippines was an Islamic state for the most part. Various Muslim empires ruled the Philippines, like for example Mindanao and Visayas were ruled by Malays. When the Spanish got to the Philippines, they were disgusted by the presence of Muslims. So, they converted 90% of Filipinos to the Roman Catholic faith. So why wasn t Malaysians and Indonesians converted to Christianity? This is because the British and Dutch didn t care about convering people. So the Malays got to practice their faiths freely. • 24. Hamlet Character Analysis Everyone can agree that Hamlet is a classic piece of literature. However, there are many aspects of the play that are confusing. Horatio is introduced in the first scene of the play, he is talking to some guards about a strange occurrence. He is brought in as a scholar of good report to identify what is happening. Fortinbras on the other hand, is first heard of gathering random men to fight for him. He is referred to as young and untested. We see him only one more time before his appearance at the end of the play. At the end of the play Fortinbras comes in and is made king. It feels cheap, like Shakespeare had an extra character floating around and decided to make him the new king, even though Horatio would have made a great king. Why then, is he just pushed aside for Fortinbras. Throughout the entire play Horatio is right in the middle of everything. He knows everything that has happened from the very beginning of the play. Fortinbras has been off taking over some unimportant piece of land. So why, then, is he allowed to just swoop in at the end and take the position of king. Even Hamlet just pushes Horatio aside and throws his hat in with Fortinbras. Horatio had to put up with a lot of things throughout the play and at the end instead of getting a reward of appropriate size befitting his deeds, Hamlet just tells him to tell my story (V.ii.314). There are a lot of characters that get thrown to the wayside but Horatio gets it the worst. Horatio had connections to the old royalty and he was well known to be level headed and a scholar. The biggest thing that Horatio had going for him was that he was well connected to the old royalty. His main connection was to Hamlet. He had been with Hamlet since they were kids. He had gone through all of the same schooling. Since he was so close to Hamlet he also knew everything that was happening in the kingdom from the view of a ruler. With Fortinbras there will be much more catching up to do, Horatio will probably be called upon to help explain what had been happening. You could argue that Fortinbras has the training necessary to rule a country. However, I would argue that Horatio also has similar training.
