Pros And Cons Of Mandatory National Service
The topic of mandatory national service has been around for years now, and there will always be
arguments on whether it should be enforced or not. Some may say that it takes away our freedom, but
is it not what gives us freedom in the first place? The United States military, national service, as well
as community service is based on volunteers. That is what makes this country great, but there are less
volunteers as years go by. Crime increases, streets are not safe anymore, Americans are oblivious to
what is happening around the world. There are so many opportunities to give back to the country, yet,
not many care. Today s generation is based on social trends, and self gratification. There is also the
fact that many young people do not know what to do with their life after high school, some continue to
college or focus on work, others do not work nor study. Therefore, all young men and women should
be required to give two years to national service because it can help solve problems as well as build
the community back together.
Having mandatory national service implies that every young person between ages 18 through 25 will
be required to give back to the country through some type of national service. This includes the
Military, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other nonprofit organizations. It does not necessarily involve
preparing for combat, nor risking a life, but helping those in need, making the world a better place by
taking care of the environment. Everyone should have the obligation to serve. John F. Kennedy ones
said, A young man who does not have what it takes to perform military service is not likely to have
what it takes to make a living. Today s military rejects include tomorrows hard core unemployed.
Meaning that national service is something every citizen should be a part of. After all, it provides
young adults with strength and pride of their country, as well as training in the career they are leaning
towards. (Kennedy)
Today s generation think it is okay to treat others with disrespect, and sadly many parents have no
recourse to that kind of behavior. These can be signs to lack of attention. Service activities can help
with emotions and behaviors, ensuring success in people s future. After high

Essay Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Mary Godwin was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England, of high literary stock. Her mom,
Mary Wollstonecraft, was the author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She died giving birth
to Mary, placing her daughter in the care of her husband, William Godwin. Mary s upbringing in this
rarefied atmosphere exposed her at an early age to ideas of innovation and revelation, and it created
useful connections for her to such as Lord Byron. Another of the literary types that Mary met as an
adolescent was Percy Bysshe Shelley, an inspiring young poet. They had instant chemistry, and, in
1814, they ran away with each other for a tour of many countries in Europe: France, Switzerland, and
Germany Mary escaping her rather oppressive family and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The story of Frankenstein begins with a series of letters written by a man named Walton to his sister
about his exciting and treacherous journey through the snowy tundra. As he is on his journey he spots
two dark figures running in the distance. He pays it no mind and continues on his voyage. A few days
later he come across a man he looks beaten and tired. The man s name is victor Frankenstein. After he
helps nurse Frankenstein back to health, victor begins to tell Walton a story about the reason he has
been running through the snow after a dark figure.
Frankenstein begins his story by telling Walton about the life he had growing up. He tells him about
how he was the only biological child of his parent even though they adopted many more, incldung
Elizabeth whom victors mothers secretly wanted him to marry. He also tells Walton about his natural
born inclination to science and the wonders of life, which would turn out to be his ultimate down fall.
He tells about how just before he left home for university, elizebeth fell ill and was nursed back to
health by his mother. However, while she was nursing Elizabeth back to health she herself contracted
the disease and despite her families efforts to save her, she passed away. Victor immediately left for
university. While Frankenstein was away he

1984 A Dystopian Society Essay
The astounding book 1984 is a dystopian novel written by the famous English author George Orwell.
Winston Smith, the main character, faces thoughtcrime, sexcrime, and Room 101 in the mind bending,
teeth clenching story. The novel follows Winston as he takes his journey of life in the war ridden,
filthy, Oceania. His enemy: The Party. The Party, the power that governs Oceania, tends to make life
seem sweet and savory, when in reality, it is disgusting. Poverty, filth, death, and hate fill the society.
War is constant. Hate towards the enemy is a daily routine. And nothing, nor no one, is in favor of the
people. The Party imagines Oceania as a utopian society, but Winston, and the Party both know that it
is a true dystopia. The form of government practiced in Oceania is totalitarianism. This form of
government can be best described as a dictatorship. It is total control of all societal factors, the law, the
economy, the church, the people, and in this case, thought. The Party uses this to their advantage. By
having full control, they can manipulate and use the people to their full benefit. It can be easily agreed
that in a dystopian society, the government s intentions are not benevolent, but instead, self serving. ...

The people of Oceania are not allowed to think thoughts that may be against the Party. They must
support the Party and love Big Brother. Telescreens are located in every home and in public to watch
the actions of every citizen. A simple twitch, facial expression, or motion can indicate that someone is
not loyal to the party. If caught, the people will be dragged away to the Ministry of Love, and no one
knows what happens there except its victims. The Party is selfish. They want everyone to be on their
side. They are self serving. The people are the slaves to the party. They have no freedom, because

There are no Children Here Essay
Alex Kotlowitz s book, There are No Children Here, is a story about two boys, Pharoah and Lafeyette
Rivers growing in the late 1980 s in Henry Horner, a housing project in Chicago. The boys try to
retain their youth while they see constant gang violence, death of close friends, their brother in jail and
their dad struggling with a drug addiction.
In Horner, there are two gangs that claim it as their turf, and the Rivers family is constantly ducking
from shots of gunfire there. They live in an overcrowded apartment with leaky facets, heating
problems and animal carcasses in the basement. The boys mother, LaJoe, tries to keep them away
from gangs and violence since her eldest children fell to the harsh ... Show more content on

He continued to tell his mother he was too young to comprehend it all, as if he were trying to prolong
his childhood (Kotlowitz 216). Both boys did recognized at an early age that death occurs frequently
in their neighborhood. They had several friends die and they were reminded of this every time gunfire
went off outside the apartment. Pharoah tried to maintain his childhood the best he could and excelled
in school as a coping mechanism. Lafeyette, at thirteen, acted as a parent to fill his mother s role when
she was out.
The government makes one of the biggest contributions to the welfare of the family by providing
financial safety. The problem is that the government fails to show any concern for these families
unless it is brought to their attention, and even then nothing is changed. The lack of interest by the
housing authorities leads to the neglect of Horner for over fifteen years. The rotting carcasses
explained the putrid odor rising from the Riverses toilet. It wasn t aborted fetuses, as LaJoe had
though. It was dead animals, the stench of rotting flesh rising through the pipes (Kotlowitz 241). The
government leaves the projects to fend for themselves, which increased the communities turmoil. If
the government and the people worked together, more problems could be solved.
The family is the closest, most stable element in the boys life. LaJoe tries hard to make sure the boys
are surrounded with positive influences so that they will grow up secure. This

Pros And Cons Of Stereotypes
Stereotypes
A person with smaller eyes and more yellowish skin tone like myself will be asked the question, Are
you Chinese or Korean? at some point of time in their live span. Now in the modern ages , especially
in America , we tend to assume a widely, simplified or distorted image with the people around us
which is known as stereotypes. For example, when we see people who have a white colored skin tone
we tend to make the generalization that they are the typical Americans that eat burgers and fries every
night; what we do not know is that they could be Bulgarian, German or British. Just because people
have a certain appearance on the outside does not allow us to place a name on who they truly are. In
the VOA News article, US Public s Labeling of Chinese Americans as Asians Poses challenges , an
Asian American rights activist and former journalist says, The public s lack of consciousness about
who we are, where we come from and how we are not all the same, is pretty much stuck where it s
been (Lipin). The general public have always lack the knowledge of Asian culture. They do not know
who were truly are and where we are from. In the broadcast, they mention that a wide American
population cannot make distinctions between an Chinese American and an Asian American (Lipin ).
Ever since kindergarten till this day, people have always questioned if I am Chinese or Korean. Under
this stereotype people think that all Asians look the same therefor they assume all Asians are

What Are The Four Books Of The New Testament
Books of the New Testament
The Bible is made complete by the New Testament because many things that were prophesied in the
Old Testament manifest in it. Some Bible scholars say that the Old Testament conceals the New
Testament that then reveals the Old Testament. Out of 66 books that make up the entire Holy Bible, 27
are of the New Testament. The 27 books can be classified according to authorship, target group and
time in history in the Christian calendar.
The first four books of the New Testament are called Gospels and are named after their writers who
lived with Jesus. These books give details on the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Genesis Chapter Summaries
The book of Genesis covers many topics. Creation is the theme of chapter one. In chapter two, God
says that His creation is good. He then creates man from the dust and women from the man. Next is
the Fall of Man, Eve is tempted by the serpent to eat of the tree God told them not to eat. Both, Eve
and Adam end up eating of the fruit from the tree resulting in the punishments from God for all of
mankind. Chapter four is about Cain and Abel. It also covers the first murder and first record of
bigamy. It gives some lineage of Cain and also tells of Eve s birth of Seth who replaced Abel. Chapter
five is about the generations of Adam. Adam lived to be 930 years old. Chapters six through eight is
about Noah building the Ark and the Flood. Chapter nine, God promises to never destroy the Earth
with a flood again. The lineage of Noah is recorded in chapter ten. The confusion of languages of the

The things that I learned were Lamech killed a man for wounding him and a boy for striking him, the
detailed lineage of Abraham, the fact that Jacob was buried in Canaan with Abraham, Jacob s daughter
was raped by Shechem, Adam lived to be 910 years old, Methuselah lived to be 969 years old, Joseph
only lived to be 110 years old, and Jacob and Esau met outside of Canaan when they reunited after
Jacob fled to Laban s house. I also learned that Genesis covers 2, 200 years. Enoch is the first man not
to die and he was the son of Cain. The first revival occurred at Bethel, something else I did not know. I
was reminded of the picture of Christ death that will be to come, and that God gave this picture in the
Garden of Eden when He killed an animal to clothed Adam and Eve. Seeing God s forgiveness
throughout Genesis just reminds me of His love for us. God also kept His promise to Abraham that he

Extreme Surfing Persuasive Speech
by some as thrilling, an adrenaline rush, and a good way to exercise, I maintain that it s too dangerous

surfing, but that doesn t mean they are ready to face extreme surfing. Sometimes we think we are a lot
better at something than we really are. In reality you re probably not ready for extreme surfing. It
takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be prepared for those massive waves. Surfing In the DMZ

James Truslow Adams The American Dream
James Truslow Adams in 1931 coined the term The American Dream in his book The Epic of America
(Michels, n.d., para. 1). He wrote of an America that offered freedom of religion, and speech, as well
as political and social opportunities that few other countries offered. However, according to Eva
Michels, The American Dream means something different for each individual, it refers to the way of
life that Americans strive for and have equal rights to achieve regardless of social class or nationality
(n.d., para. 4). She goes on to write that for some this dream can mean opportunities and equality,
while for others it can mean materialism and gained wealth (Michels, n.d., para. 6). On the other hand,
there is a notion that The American Dream is free for the taking for anyone who desires wealth and
freedom. Robert A. Heinlein once, quickly rejected this notion saying, Nothing of value is free. Even
the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain (n.d., n.p.). Immigrants
have been attracted to the opportunities of American life since 1607 when colonists created the first
settlement in Jamestown, since then people have migrated to America for many reasons. These
immigrants have entered the country expecting that these freedoms and The American Dream are free
creating an out of control immigration problem. As more and more people have immigrated, crime,
drugs, and negative economic consequences have resulted. The American government needs to

Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of
children are stranded. The Lord of the Flies has many symbolic elements in the essay beginning from
the title to the end of the novel. There were two elements that stood out to me; I want to examine the
Conch Shell and the Signal Fire to show how the significance in the novel. The boys use the conch
shell to indicate who has speaking rights at the moment. One boy says what is on his mind while

By keeping the fire going they hope to get the attention of people passing who will rescue them.
Because it is linked so closely with the boys return it becomes a connection to civilisation. For
example, the quote The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued
except by luck, if we don t keep a fire going? Is a fire too much for us to make? Look at us! How
many are we? And yet we can t keep a fire going to make smoke. Don t you understand? Can t you see
we ought to ought to die before we let the fire out? (Pg 80 81) is an example of how important the
signal fire was. In order to stay connected to civilization, the group of boys had to keep the fire going
because it was their only hope for survival. In the early parts of the novel the boys want to maintain
the fire and keep it going which shows the boys want to be able to go home to order and civilization.
However, when the fire is allowed to go out this shows the boys becoming savages. It is ironic that at
the end of the novel a fire does attract a ship, but it is not the signal fire it is the fire that Jack and his
group use to kill Ralph. When the boys let the fire go out they become savages which shows the signal
fire being a form of civilization. When the fire dies out so does any sense of

The Government activity shouldn t be taking money from people just so that lazy parents could get

. ( Debate.org. N. p., 2017. Web. 16 Dec. 2017.) Many working mothers have faced discrimination
during pregnancy and paternal leave. Discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick discovered
indisputable evidence that discrimination of parents who have children is a widespread issue which
discourages working parents, and women during labor force. ( Half Of Working Mothers Face
Discrimination At Work, Study Finds. ) This report is the most comprehensive subject of workplace
discrimination towards parents. 49% of mothers and 29% of fathers have experienced discrimination
at work. A parent is more likely to face discrimination near large work buildings. Elizabeth Broderick

Facial Stereotypes
There are mathematical equations, such as the golden ratio, which can be used to supposedly create
the ideal human body. This proportion was used by Da Vinci to draw the perfect male body. An
individual is said to have a beautiful face when it has a ratio of 1.6180339, or approximately 1.62.
Facial symmetry can be measured by dividing the length of a face by the width of the widest part of
the face; the closer quotient is 1.62 the more beautiful a face is according to the golden ratio. The
golden ratio can also be used on various other parts of the body including; arm length, and height.
Facial characteristics also play a role in determining an individual s attractiveness. The color

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Mark Wahlberg, and Gerard Butler have lead to men s quest for
unrealistic physiques. Other characteristics such as, height, masculinity, and assertiveness are also

Risks of Teenagers Obtaining a Driver s Licence
Most teens look forward to getting a driver s license. But that may change if they know that they have
a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult drivers. In the United States, driving
accidents are a leading cause of death among teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in populated
cities. This problem has caused each state to have its own driving laws for teens. Although this
problem is already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general public,
especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these laws can help
establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease teen caused auto accidents
include establishing a minimum age for passengers of teenage drivers. In California, a new driver
cannot transport anyone who is under 20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also in the vehicle.
Another effective law in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours of supervised driving
during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows teens to learn how to drive
safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver. Although some laws are effective, teens are
still known to cause accidents. Therefore, a solution should be proposed to the state governments that
will call for a law that requires teens to take an annual mandatory driving test for a certain number of
years after obtaining a license.
Existing Driving Laws Fail to Ensure Safety As

Essay on The Bicycle Thief
The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is a deeply moving neo realist study of post War Italy which
depicts one man s loss of faith and his struggle to maintain personal dignity in poverty and
bureaucratic indifference. Antonio Ricci is a bill poster whose bicycle, essential for his job, is stolen
by a thief. Joined by his son Bruno, Antonio vainly searches for his bike, eventually resorting to the
humiliation of theft himself. Throughout this paper, I will attempt to trace the character through The
Bicycle Thief. The film opens with a montage of early morning urban activities ending on a crowd of
unemployed laborers clamoring for work. Sitting to the side is Antonio Ricci. ... Show more content

He gently scolds his wife for her superstitions, but Maria holds firm to her belief in the woman s

an understanding father. His warmth belies the stereotypically macho Latin male. He helps his wife
carry heavy buckets of water and engages his young son Bruno as a reliable helper, and trusted him
with the preparation of the cherished bicycle for the first day s work. Hired as a billposter, Antonio
was required to affix looming images of Rita Hayworth to the gray and ancient walls of Rome;
ironically, he juxtaposes Hollywood s glamorous world vision to the stark realties of post War Europe.
While Antonio struggles to smooth out the lumps under the advertisement, a thief slips up behind him
and steals his bicycle. Antonio chases him in vain, loses him in the rush of the mid morning traffic.
Thus begins an unrelenting three day search for his stolen bicycle. Accompanied by Bruno, Antonio
combs Rome to recover his property, which has come to represent both his livelihood and any hope
for a prosperous future. The police are of no help; they cannot be bothered with such a trivial case.
Enlisting friends, Antonio and his son search the open air markets where stolen goods are dismantled
and sold, for a trace of evidence. In a masterful

Plurality Voting And Voting System
We often hear people saying that they re going to vote for someone they don t really like, because
he/she is the lesser of two evils . (Ossipoff) Many take the United States voting system with an it is
what it is attitude, assuming it could be no better. This is certainly not the case. The United States uses
what is known as plurality voting, meaning the candidate with the largest percentage of votes wins.
This is also a winner takes all system, where losers of the election receive no representation. This
leads voters to compromise, not selecting their favorite because they believe him/her to be unviable,
and ultimately selecting somebody they don t like (Ossipoff). Plurality voting results in high amounts
of wasted votes, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppose that two districts of equal population are voting to elect 1 representative each. Suppose
further that in District A, the winning candidate receives 90% of the votes, while in District B, the
winner receives only 51%. In District A, 39% of the votes for the winner (all excess after reaching
51%) had no effect on the outcome, as that candidate would have won either way. In District B, no
winning votes are wasted. However, in both cases, the same amount of representation is awarded. In
essence, 39% of the winning voters in District A are not being represented. Similarly, all votes to the
losing candidate are wasted their desires are in no way reflected in the result of the election. In any
two person race, 49% of voters do not receive any representation for their vote. With more candidates,
often more than 50% of votes are wasted. Voters do not fail to see this, and it affects their desire to
vote (Amy). If natural wasting of votes isn t bad enough, politicians currently holding office grossly
manipulate the voting districts to artificially create wasted votes in a strategy known as
gerrymandering. Two types of gerrymandering are most common; cracking and packing. In cracking,
politicians redraw voting boundaries to spread out the votes that oppose them such that in all districts,
they hold a minority, effectively forcing all their votes to be wasted. Similarly, in packing, boundaries
are redrawn

Native American And European Colonization
Mary Mediatrix Ortiz
Dr. Seekatz
HIST17A
9 November 2017
TITLE
There were initially two to ten million natives in the United States prior to European contact. Those
numbers dwindled down drastically in the years that Europeans came and started colonizing. The
Europeans came to explore the New World in search of land, spices, gold, God and glory. Among
these colonists were the Spanish who colonized most of the southwest of the United States. Evidence
of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These missions
were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Try to put yourself
into the shoes of the Native Americans, imagine living your entire life with a particular set of beliefs,
based on what was handed down by your ancestors and culture. Then suddenly a group of foreigners
would come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must follow their beliefs for the
salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish colonizers did to the Native Americans as they
invaded their territory which is the reason why the relationship between the two parties were strained
and rife with tension. The conversion of the Natives and the constant hostility by the Spanish
conquerors subsequently led to the disintegration of native life and culture.
Spain s initial contact with the Americas began when Christopher Columbus landed in Hispaniola
(present day Haiti and Dominican Republic) and sparked a

A Fallacy Ontological Argument
1. A fallacy is an argument with some sort of mistaken proponent that makes the argument unsound.
One such fallacy is the genetic fallacy. A genetic fallacy is when a claim is declared false or invalid
not due to the integrity of the argument but from the source, such as a group or business. An example
of a genetic fallacy would be if Dasani put out a claim that their water was the purest and that claim
was discredited not because of their claim being false, but that it came from Dasani themselves.
2. An Ontological argument demonstrates that god exists not by science or proof but by the mere
concept of God itself. An example of an Ontological argument is the idea that God is by definition the
greatest possible being which implies that God must actually exist, because if he did not exist in
reality, he would not be the greatest possible being. A critique of this argument is that it is basically
begging the question, as from the beginning of its claim, it has already decided that it is true and uses
that to back support its own argument. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem of free will is the question whether humans truly have free will or not. Some believe in
determinism, which is the belief that everything is already pre determined and is controlled by a
constant chain of causes. Others believe in free will which in its philosophical definition, that one
must at least make some choices out of one own desires without constraint or pressure from outside
sources. One prominent view of free will is compatibilism; which is the idea that even though they
believe determinism is in fact true, some actions can still be free as they can act based on one s own
desires, also known as soft

Framing The West By Rachel Stiff Essay
In the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, Rachel Stiff s artwork is displayed in an exhibit called:
Framing the West . As you walk through the door, you would see Rachel s drawings arranged in a row
beginning from the wall nearest to the window, that expands to the center of the room, and then ends
with paintings closest to the door. You would also see the drawings presented in either a brown or
white wooden frame. Whereas, the paintings were presented in a gold frame or no frame at all. There
are fourteen pieces of Rachel s work being exposed to the public s naked eye. She presents her
inspired paintings as well as drawings of the Las Vegas desert landscapes through abstract by using
interlacing clouds, the sun s rays, rocks, and landforms. Although there were fourteen of her pieces to
evaluate, I selected three pieces by Rachel Stiff that captured my attention the most. Examining each
artwork, Goner × 2, Gravel Pit No.3, and Gravel Pit No.5 captured my attention the most in result of
the various elements used.
To begin, Goner × 2 is a frameless painting on white canvas that regards the multiple layers within Las
Vegas. The primary colors red, blue, and yellow are involved in the work of art. Secondary colors
share an involvement as well. With that being said, subtractive colors are visible to one s eye. As you
continue to examine the work, you ll begin to notice the colors red, blue, yellow, brown, green, and
black start to fade as it is being applied in

The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent
In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in Ancient
China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. Mulan and Chi Li are two different women
living in different parts of China, however, they both have similar feelings about the way they should
handle difficult tasks. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is honest. Both
women reveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society and take on the
role of a man.
Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take risks
and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi Li says,
Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight! How pitiful! it
shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough to fight the serpent.
Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too proper to retaliate. Although
nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all odds and does so because of her
courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ...
she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery because she had to sneak around her town
without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they would realize what she was doing and her parents
would have found on immediately. Her bravery overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and
she stayed strong and fought for twelve years. Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their
parents and their families. Even though fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky,
the two women fought their hardest for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous
because they faced danger and overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women
value bravery and family matters because of their fearless mind sets.
Chi Li values honesty while Mulan values secrecy. When Chi Li says to her parents, Father and
Mother, I want you to know that I have decided to place myself into the hands of the county
authorities and to volunteer to

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Figurative Language
The poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas is a story about the poet s father
dying. The poet uses the story of the poem, different types of figurative language and tone to create a
feeling of conflict within the poem. Throughout this poem the conflict between person and nature is
clear.
Death is a part of nature and something that everyone must face. The poet writes about his father s
slow death and urges him to fight against it. Line two stanza one of the poem tells us do not go gentle
into that goodnight . The poet is trying to encourage his father to not give in to death. Figurative
language also helps shows us the conflict of the poem.
The poet has effectively used figurative language to help create the conflict

A Career As A Nursing Assistant
At 17 years old, I had the grueling task of deciding how I wanted to spend 40 plus years of my life. I
always aspired to land a career in the medical field, so I majored in biology like most pre med
hopefuls, but during my junior year, I no longer desired to become a physician. The medical field was
calling out to me, but the specialty of focus was incorrect. After graduation, I went back to the basics
and put my nursing assistant certification to use. I was introduced to the field of nursing by assisting
my mother and her interdisciplinary team on a hospice case. It showed me how autonomous the job as
a holistic hospice nurse is. The amount of dignity and care they provided for both the patients and
their family during the final phase of their loved ones life was unfathomable, being able to help
maintain the respect for human life not only physically but spiritually as well was an enriching

lie above the estimated regression line. This is because OLS minimizes SUM ê2 , the residual , ê, is
the difference between the actual Yi and the predicted Yi and has zero mean. In other words, OLS
calculates the slope coefficient so that the difference between the predicted Yi and actual Yi is
minimized.

The closer that R2 is to 1, the better the fit meaning the group of independent variable could explain
better what happens to the dependent variable. R2 may not be the best estimate at times because if we
add another independent variable to the model the R2 would increase but it does not say necessary the
model becomes better. Therefore some would prefer to look at the adjusted R2 as it would only
increase if the variable used are relevant to the model. Addition of independent variable to the model
would not result in an increase in adjusted R2 if the variables does not improve the model.
We can then look at the T Statistics to see how individual variable can explain the dependent variable,
by doing a T test comparing it with the Critical value T. By doing a 10%,5% or 1% test.
We could also look at the model as a whole by looking at the F Statistics and doing a F test.
With Eviews regression we can simply look at the P Values to see at which level of confidence we can
reject the Hypothesis, From the above 3models, it seems that R2 is highest in model 3, and the
adjusted R2 is also the highest in the model which tells us that the independent variable are better in
explaining the dependent variable. Model 3 is a better regression model. Income per person is a better
independent variable rather than income and population as a variable. Again this goes in line with
economic theory, as income per person increases it would result increase

The Importance Of Characters In Fifth Business
In the novel Fifth Business, characters mark new chapters of their lives by changing their names.
Names are used to identify people in society and they are a symbol of self. The characters, Dunstan,
Boy and Paul all change their names, Dunstable to Dunstan, Percy to Boy, and Paul to Magnus.
Despite the characters attempts to change their names and personalities, Davies reveals that people
will always maintain their true identities.
Throughout the novel, Dunstan plays the role of Fifth Business even when he embarks onto a new
chapter of his life. Dunstan s major role in this book is revealing to Paul that the cause for his mother s
insanity was because Boy threw a snowball with a stone in it that hit his mother. He says, Dunstan
Ramsay counselled against revelation, but Fifth Business would not hear. Yes, guilt. Staunton and I
robbed your mother of her sanity (Davies 263). In this quote, Dunstan claims that he is Fifth Business
because he provided information that led Paul to kill Boy. Paul was always told his birth was the cause
of his mother s insanity. Her madness is what made him leave Deptford and caused him trouble during
his childhood. Later on in the conversation Dunstan says, Fifth Business insisted on being heard again.
Would this jog your memory? I asked, handing him my old paperweight. (Davies 264). Dunstan
proves he is Fifth Business again by revealing the stone that was placed inside of the snowball. This is
very important because Paul now

Grade Fixing Motimilation
For this reason, grade fixing/inflation is not helpful to students. It may increase a student s GPA, i.e.
grade point average at the time, but in the long run, it will only become a proverbial noose around that
same student s neck while attempting to become successful at their future jobs. In fact, employers
criticize recent college graduates for the mindset they have that perpetuates the entitlement mindset. It
is this mentality, if not checked at the door, which jeopardizes all future endeavors for the said student.
Regardless, whether it be furthering their education, or finding a job. This jeopardy proves that grade
manipulation is not fixing anything, but inflating everything. There needs to be a return to the basics
of grading. This

Stalin s Impact On Russia
Stalinist Policies Set to Bring About Fruitful Changes Targeted at the Russian Society
By: Hashem Qaituqa
Under Stalin s regime, Russia is witnessing an era of rapid industrialization, and introduction of social
policies that will have a huge impact on Russian society. It is Stalin s view towards the west that
caused Russia to embark on the industrialization of the economy and military. Stalin fears that if
Russia remained agricultural, western interference might threaten it s stability in the future.
Furthermore, social policies such as compulsory education, improvements in health, and gender
equality were put and designed for the better of the nation, and to boost the morale of the people.
Stalin s View towards Western Nations

result the production of steel, coal, iron and oil would eventually increase. New factories were built,
and there were improvements in the railway system to help transport goods. Also, the military would

Legal Framework Of The Interaction Between Trusts And...
This paper will examine the current legal framework of the interaction between trusts and relationship
property entitlements. Focus will be placed on whether or not there is a fair balance between trust and
relationship property rights under the current law. Firstly the interaction between trusts and
relationship property will be looked at in depth before going on to consider what avenues are currently
available for either gaining access to trust property or being compensated for being denied access (???
wording). The current position favours trust rights over relationship property rights. This is a concern
because it creates the potential for injustice in relationship property matters. In contemplation of these
issues reform will be required to address the inequality.. In addition to a number of legal

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Mandatory National Service The topic of mandatory national service has been around for years now, and there will always be arguments on whether it should be enforced or not. Some may say that it takes away our freedom, but is it not what gives us freedom in the first place? The United States military, national service, as well as community service is based on volunteers. That is what makes this country great, but there are less volunteers as years go by. Crime increases, streets are not safe anymore, Americans are oblivious to what is happening around the world. There are so many opportunities to give back to the country, yet, not many care. Today s generation is based on social trends, and self gratification. There is also the fact that many young people do not know what to do with their life after high school, some continue to college or focus on work, others do not work nor study. Therefore, all young men and women should be required to give two years to national service because it can help solve problems as well as build the community back together. Having mandatory national service implies that every young person between ages 18 through 25 will be required to give back to the country through some type of national service. This includes the Military, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other nonprofit organizations. It does not necessarily involve preparing for combat, nor risking a life, but helping those in need, making the world a better place by taking care of the environment. Everyone should have the obligation to serve. John F. Kennedy ones said, A young man who does not have what it takes to perform military service is not likely to have what it takes to make a living. Today s military rejects include tomorrows hard core unemployed. Meaning that national service is something every citizen should be a part of. After all, it provides young adults with strength and pride of their country, as well as training in the career they are leaning towards. (Kennedy) Today s generation think it is okay to treat others with disrespect, and sadly many parents have no recourse to that kind of behavior. These can be signs to lack of attention. Service activities can help with emotions and behaviors, ensuring success in people s future. After high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Mary Godwin was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England, of high literary stock. Her mom, Mary Wollstonecraft, was the author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She died giving birth to Mary, placing her daughter in the care of her husband, William Godwin. Mary s upbringing in this rarefied atmosphere exposed her at an early age to ideas of innovation and revelation, and it created useful connections for her to such as Lord Byron. Another of the literary types that Mary met as an adolescent was Percy Bysshe Shelley, an inspiring young poet. They had instant chemistry, and, in 1814, they ran away with each other for a tour of many countries in Europe: France, Switzerland, and Germany Mary escaping her rather oppressive family and ... • 5. 1984 A Dystopian Society Essay The astounding book 1984 is a dystopian novel written by the famous English author George Orwell. Winston Smith, the main character, faces thoughtcrime, sexcrime, and Room 101 in the mind bending, teeth clenching story. The novel follows Winston as he takes his journey of life in the war ridden, filthy, Oceania. His enemy: The Party. The Party, the power that governs Oceania, tends to make life seem sweet and savory, when in reality, it is disgusting. Poverty, filth, death, and hate fill the society. War is constant. Hate towards the enemy is a daily routine. And nothing, nor no one, is in favor of the people. The Party imagines Oceania as a utopian society, but Winston, and the Party both know that it is a true dystopia. The form of government practiced in Oceania is totalitarianism. This form of government can be best described as a dictatorship. It is total control of all societal factors, the law, the economy, the church, the people, and in this case, thought. The Party uses this to their advantage. By having full control, they can manipulate and use the people to their full benefit. It can be easily agreed that in a dystopian society, the government s intentions are not benevolent, but instead, self serving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Telescreens are located in every home and in public to watch the actions of every citizen. A simple twitch, facial expression, or motion can indicate that someone is not loyal to the party. If caught, the people will be dragged away to the Ministry of Love, and no one knows what happens there except its victims. The Party is selfish. They want everyone to be on their side. • 8. There are no Children Here Essay Alex Kotlowitz s book, There are No Children Here, is a story about two boys, Pharoah and Lafeyette Rivers growing in the late 1980 s in Henry Horner, a housing project in Chicago. The boys try to retain their youth while they see constant gang violence, death of close friends, their brother in jail and their dad struggling with a drug addiction. In Horner, there are two gangs that claim it as their turf, and the Rivers family is constantly ducking from shots of gunfire there. He continued to tell his mother he was too young to comprehend it all, as if he were trying to prolong his childhood (Kotlowitz 216). Both boys did recognized at an early age that death occurs frequently in their neighborhood. They had several friends die and they were reminded of this every time gunfire went off outside the apartment. Pharoah tried to maintain his childhood the best he could and excelled in school as a coping mechanism. Lafeyette, at thirteen, acted as a parent to fill his mother s role when she was out. The government makes one of the biggest contributions to the welfare of the family by providing financial safety. The problem is that the government fails to show any concern for these families unless it is brought to their attention, and even then nothing is changed. The lack of interest by the housing authorities leads to the neglect of Horner for over fifteen years. The rotting carcasses explained the putrid odor rising from the Riverses toilet. It wasn t aborted fetuses, as LaJoe had though. It was dead animals, the stench of rotting flesh rising through the pipes (Kotlowitz 241). The government leaves the projects to fend for themselves, which increased the communities turmoil. If the government and the people worked together, more problems could be solved. The family is the closest, most stable element in the boys life. LaJoe tries hard to make sure the boys are surrounded with positive influences so that they will grow up secure. This ... • 10. Pros And Cons Of Stereotypes Stereotypes A person with smaller eyes and more yellowish skin tone like myself will be asked the question, Are you Chinese or Korean? at some point of time in their live span. Now in the modern ages , especially in America , we tend to assume a widely, simplified or distorted image with the people around us which is known as stereotypes. For example, when we see people who have a white colored skin tone we tend to make the generalization that they are the typical Americans that eat burgers and fries every night; what we do not know is that they could be Bulgarian, German or British. Just because people have a certain appearance on the outside does not allow us to place a name on who they truly are. In the VOA News article, US Public s Labeling of Chinese Americans as Asians Poses challenges , an Asian American rights activist and former journalist says, The public s lack of consciousness about who we are, where we come from and how we are not all the same, is pretty much stuck where it s been (Lipin). The general public have always lack the knowledge of Asian culture. They do not know who were truly are and where we are from. In the broadcast, they mention that a wide American population cannot make distinctions between an Chinese American and an Asian American (Lipin ). Both, Eve and Adam end up eating of the fruit from the tree resulting in the punishments from God for all of mankind. Chapter four is about Cain and Abel. He wrote of an America that offered freedom of religion, and speech, as well as political and social opportunities that few other countries offered. However, according to Eva Michels, The American Dream means something different for each individual, it refers to the way of life that Americans strive for and have equal rights to achieve regardless of social class or nationality (n.d., para. 4). She goes on to write that for some this dream can mean opportunities and equality, while for others it can mean materialism and gained wealth (Michels, n.d., para. 6). On the other hand, there is a notion that The American Dream is free for the taking for anyone who desires wealth and freedom. Robert A. Heinlein once, quickly rejected this notion saying, Nothing of value is free. Even the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain (n.d., n.p.). Immigrants have been attracted to the opportunities of American life since 1607 when colonists created the first settlement in Jamestown, since then people have migrated to America for many reasons. But that may change if they know that they have a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult drivers. In the United States, driving accidents are a leading cause of death among teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in populated cities. This problem has caused each state to have its own driving laws for teens. Although this problem is already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general public, especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these laws can help establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease teen caused auto accidents include establishing a minimum age for passengers of teenage drivers. In California, a new driver cannot transport anyone who is under 20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also in the vehicle. Another effective law in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours of supervised driving during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows teens to learn how to drive safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver. Although some laws are effective, teens are still known to cause accidents. However, in both cases, the same amount of representation is awarded. In essence, 39% of the winning voters in District A are not being represented. • 27. Native American And European Colonization Mary Mediatrix Ortiz Dr. Seekatz HIST17A 9 November 2017 TITLE There were initially two to ten million natives in the United States prior to European contact. Those numbers dwindled down drastically in the years that Europeans came and started colonizing. The Europeans came to explore the New World in search of land, spices, gold, God and glory. Among these colonists were the Spanish who colonized most of the southwest of the United States. Evidence of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These missions were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Try to put yourself into the shoes of the Native Americans, imagine living your entire life with a particular set of beliefs, based on what was handed down by your ancestors and culture. Then suddenly a group of foreigners would come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must follow their beliefs for the salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish colonizers did to the Native Americans as they invaded their territory which is the reason why the relationship between the two parties were strained and rife with tension. A genetic fallacy is when a claim is declared false or invalid not due to the integrity of the argument but from the source, such as a group or business. An example of a genetic fallacy would be if Dasani put out a claim that their water was the purest and that claim was discredited not because of their claim being false, but that it came from Dasani themselves. 2. An Ontological argument demonstrates that god exists not by science or proof but by the mere concept of God itself. An example of an Ontological argument is the idea that God is by definition the greatest possible being which implies that God must actually exist, because if he did not exist in reality, he would not be the greatest possible being. R2 may not be the best estimate at times because if we add another independent variable to the model the R2 would increase but it does not say necessary the model becomes better. Therefore some would prefer to look at the adjusted R2 as it would only increase if the variable used are relevant to the model. Addition of independent variable to the model would not result in an increase in adjusted R2 if the variables does not improve the model. We can then look at the T Statistics to see how individual variable can explain the dependent variable, by doing a T test comparing it with the Critical value T. By doing a 10%,5% or 1% test.
