West African Culture Research Paper
Having origins in slave trade of the Muslim Empire that conquered North Africa, are the Gnawa
people. Located in Morocco, the Gnawa are an ethnic group that is a product of their ancestors that
have come before them. Their culture is a hyprid of their West African heritage, North African
surroundings, and Islamic faith. Their spritualism and animism has its roots in West African traditional
religions. Another use of the tern Gnawa refers to the people of Morocco that participate in the
musical and ritual tradition of the lila. This nighty ritual celebrates God, his Prophet Muhammed, Sub
Saharan Africa and many other invisible entities. This complex liturgy is an all night ceremony that
mixes music with colorful costumes, acrobatic dances and incense. Music and dance are ubiquitous of

The ceremony is intended to affect participants both indivually and collectively in order to allow them
to enter an ecstatic or trance state and in the process negotiate a symbiotic relationship with their
personal melk, a powerful spiritual entity. During the last few decades, Gnawa music has been
modernizing and thus becoming more popular. Gnawa music first entered the Moroccon consiousness
outside of the ritual sphere in the 1960s when popular folk music groups borrowed from the repitoire
of the Gnawa lila. In the following decades, Gnawa melodies reached the shores of the Atlantic in
newly composed from visits from the likes of Randy Weston and Jimi Hendrix. Since the Gnawa
World Music Festival first began in 1998, popularity, commercialization, and also secularization of the
repitoire have been achieved. The desecration of the sacred Gnawa ritual has resulted in the creation
of a version of Gnawa music made for festival performances that differ in instruments, performance
practices, and sequencing of

How Is Odysseus Mortal
Fellow teammates,
I understand that we are dead, and in the underworld, but I still want to recognize a special compeer.
He was our saviour. It is the well known prodigious mortal Odysseus King and ruler of Ithaca.
Throughout our voyage he has shown optimism and grit to return to Ithaca. He has never given up. In
my opinion, I believe that Odysseus is a dexterous mortal.
For first, he has never given up on or transgressions that has ended up with us all out of misery. I am
sorry for him that he has supported us. If y all still remember the time when we got with the Cyclopes?
Well, Odysseus had a choice to let us all be eaten since he was the one chosen to be eaten last, but
admiringly he chose to stay with us. He also was the one who thought ... Show more content on

He didn t abandon us when he knew danger was near. At the Island of Circe, half of us turned to pigs.
Once Eurylochus left to find help, Odysseus came to save us. He came alone, knowing the dangers
coming ahead. Astonishingly he was able to salvage and rescue us from becoming pigs for eternity.
For the last reason, Odysseus is a stupendous mortal because his intelligence almost got us forward.
What I mean by almost is because remember when we ate that cattle? He warned us for this, but our
stupidity kept us from staying alive and so we unfortunately passed away and came here to
underworld. He was warning us all dangers. If we would ve listened, we could ve stayed alive,
supporting him and not down here missing our families. He even kept reminding us of dangers ahead
if we touch the cattle. We all died and our voyage was lost forever. I also understand that some of you
travellers may think that Odysseus is not an incredible mortal because of when he had made
Odysseus is an exceptional personage because all this time he has never given up on us and his voyage
to Ithaca. I want y all to recognize the things he has done for us. I want you and our comrades to have

The Machinery in Dracula
The machinery in Dracula becomes important to the plot as a whole, but also important to Victorian
society too. For the sake of the Empire, factories were increasing the size of Britain s economy and
cities were growing, the military was gaining strength, Britain was at the forefront of modern
technology during the time. In fact, the way technology is described and used in the novel, it can be
viewed as a subliminal compliment from Stoker about the lengths in which society has developed in
that regard. Most effectively the Crew of Light gets to utilize technology whereas Dracula is painfully
unaware of the advancements of recent sciences. Well, you know what we have to contend against; but
we, too, are not without strength...we have the resources of science (Stoker 282). The utilization of
modern technology and Bram Stoker s constant reference to trains paints a vivid image of two things.
One, science has improved and is praiseworthy, and two, that Victorian society finds itself superior
partially because of the technology it possesses. The author was a very inquisitive person
consequentially the main characters all seem to share a fascination with modern machinery. As the
economy developed under Queen Victoria s rule, trade ships ended up becoming navies, and towns
became thriving cities. Even in communication with each other they used a phonograph, a recording
device. This expanse of growth due to modern technology kept England ahead of other countries, and
so society

An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Essay
An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific
Most readers are familiar with the poetry of Robert Frost, but they may not be familiar with his poem
Once by the Pacific. This poem stands out from most of his popular poems, which frequently relate to
rural New England life. Many critics have thus commented that his works are too simple. Once by the
Pacific, however, seems to challenge this opinion, as it is one of Frost s more difficult poems to
interpret.
Although this poem also is connected with nature, the theme is more universal in that it could be
related to Armageddon, or the end of the world. Even though this theme may seem simple, it is really
complex because we do not know how Frost could possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, God promised in Genesis 9:15 that never again will the waters become a flood to destroy
all life. It seems that Frost portrays nature as having its own plan, as he writes with nature in the active
voice. Also, why does Frost speak of this in the past tense? Perhaps Frost was thinking back to the
Great Flood and painting a picture of someone by the shore before the waters started to rise. Thus, the
age Frost writes about could be interpreted as the pre Noah days on earth.
Perhaps Frost is not implying that the earth was or will be destroyed by flood, even though it seems
water is the destructive element. Frost could simply be creating a mood or atmosphere as a setting
before the destruction to come. The low and hairy clouds create a gloomy feeling that Frost later
describes as a night of dark intent. The intense images and confusing tense can fool the reader into
thinking that this event has already taken place. A close examination of the tense and words reveal that
the event has not occurred, but the strong images create a feeling of certainty that the end is beginning.
Frost brings this intensity to a climax with the line someone had better be prepared for rage. Also,
Frost speaks of an event much more powerful than flood with the last two lines, There would be more
than ocean water broken / Before God s last Put out the Light was

Homeschooling Disadvantages
George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach me
what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates
me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have latched onto Shaw
s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there are approximately
1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an alternative to mainstream
public schooling, and it is performed within the home through curriculums, co ops, or online
education systems. Homeschooling is advantageous because homeschooled children are proven to
perform better academically, they can avoid inimical mainstream school situations, and parents can
specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child individually.
First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to
perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have access
to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns, Meehan
and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the parents are
highly encouraging. They also accomplish more socially and academically because adults typically
view their children as advanced in comparison to other kids, causing children to live up to that
expectation (7). Because parents see their

A Short Note On Engine Power And Its Impact On The World...
I. Summary
After World War II, aircraft structures had to be redesigned to enable the use of turbojet power instead
of piston engine power. After its first flight on February 15th, 1946, the DC 6 piston powered aircraft
quickly became the workhorse for passenger aircraft. With a wingspan of one hundred and seventeen
feet, six inches, and a total length of one hundred feet, seven inches, this airframe was able to hold
roughly one hundred and five individuals. For nearly ten years, the DC 6 was incomparable to any
other airframes at that time. It was capable of carrying over a hundred passengers, and also very heavy
cargo payloads. However, on December 20th, 1957 a new bird entered the sky, and its name was the
Boeing 707. With four 13,500 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a high demand of passengers from civilian airliners after World War II, aircraft manufacturers,
such as Boeing, needed to create an airframe capable of meeting such demands. They needed an
airframe that could withstand extremely altitudes, high cruising speeds, and be capable of higher
payloads.
III. Significance of the Problem
The problem was significant because major airliners in the United States needed an airframe as soon
as possible, and that could outweigh the competition of other airliners. The Boeing Company had the
answers to all the airliner s questions and concerns, and within no time engineers began working on
the design for a new turbojet aircraft.
IV. Factors, Issues and Solutions
Factor 1. Design an airframe capable of extreme altitudes
Issue. Even though the DC 6 cabin was pressurized, and could operate at nearly 29,000 feet, Boeing
had to create an airframe that could cruise even higher. The higher cruising altitude would allow for
better fuel consumption, and cruising range. It would also allow for smoother air travel for passengers
because weather would be no factor at such altitudes.
Solution. In order to accomplish this, Boeing would need to create an airframe out of aluminum alloy
and have a very sleek shape to constrict drag. The DC 6 like many other airframes used aluminum
alloy because it was strong, lightweight, and durable at extreme temperatures. Boeing

How To Punish Your Inborn Drive

Essay On Moral Dilemmas In The Crucible
What is a moral dilemma? A moral dilemma is a man versus self conflict. It is when a character has to
perform two different actions, but they can not perform both actions because it is not possible. Authors
use moral dilemmas in their writings to retain the reader s interest in the book or play and to have the
reader ask questions. People often face many life altering choices such as right versus wrong or good
versus bad. In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor chooses to die because he does not want to
blacken his name throughout Salem and to ruin his sons names when they grow up. John Proctor faces
one of his many moral dilemmas to confess to witchcraft in order to stay alive. In making this decision
he has to think about his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second moral dilemma John Proctor faces is to tell the truth and die as an honest man. He has the
choice to either lie in order to live or die with his friends in an honourable way. Proctor realizes that if
he choses to tell the truth he will no longer be the sinful man he thought he is, but would keep his
name in good standing and be a good role model for his sons. I have three children how may I teach
them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends? (IV.I). If John chooses to live he will be
looked upon by his friends and family as a liar and an unmoral man. He will not be able to function in
the Puritan society, so he comes to the conclusion to tell the truth and be put to death. He believes God
will save him because he is doing the right thing by choosing to die and he will be remembered for his
dignity. His wife Elizabeth watches the hanging and says, He have his goodness now. God forbid I
take it from him! (IV.I). As Proctor is about to be hanged, sunlight shines throughout the town
representing John made the right decision and he will be going to God. After all, John Proctor does
give up his life, but he knows he saves his sons from walking around with a tainted name and keeps
the names of his friends clean, not betraying them. John Proctor chooses to die by telling the truth and
dying an honest man. Even though he loses his life for his decision, he is able to forgive

India s The Partition Of India
The partition of India is one of the defining chapters in India s entire history. Although many different
reasons caused the partition, political factors were a key player in bringing about this monumental
change in India s borders. The pre existing communal differences between Hindus and Muslims grew
as a result of the fears of both groups losing power and giving up control to the other. The partition
which was supposed to grant freedom and independence for all Indians resulted in creating a deeper
hatred and animosity which would cost countless lives through riots, rape, and mass murder for
decades to come. Gandhi said in actual life, it is impossible to separate us into two nations. We are not
two nations. Every Moslem will have a Hindu name if he goes back far enough in his family history.
Every Moslem is merely a Hindu who has accepted Islam. That does not create nationality. . . . We in
India have a common culture. In the North, Hindi and Urdu are understood by both Hindus and
Moslems. In Madras, Hindus and Moslems speak Tamil, and in Bengal, they both speak Bengali and
neither Hindi nor Urdu. When communal riots take place, they are always provoked by incidents over
cows and by religious processions. That means that it is our superstitions that create the trouble and
not our separate nationalities. He tried to unite all Indians by showing them that having different
religions does not separate Indians and the only path to true independence would be to come

Social Media Effects On Health And Social Care
Every day, more than a billion people worldwide use social networks. This habit has also invaded the
workplaces and some research has established that four out of five employees use social networks for
private purposes during working hours. Surprisingly, although this type of distraction can potentially
harm the welfare of the organizations, no studies of this relationship have been made so far. In recent
years, the phenomenon of social media, particularly Facebook and Twitter, is booming and occupies
more space in the lives of individuals. So much so that interactions with these media are increasingly

Single Sex Classrooms Helps Increase Self Esteem
Single Sex Education is considered to be a teaching system that has been implemented in schools all
over world, from long ago and little still today. That means that girls and boys are instructed in
separate schools or classrooms. How does single sex education benefits students? That is the question
that some parents make themselves when their sons enter school. Researches demonstrate that single
sex classrooms helps increase self esteem; offer an environment that students feel more confortable in
which will lead to better classroom discussions; Increases in subjects that certain genders are usually
not interested can also be beneficial. Nowadays very few schools apply this system, for it is well
known the benefits that Co education offers. Co Education is another teaching system that gained
popularity some years ago and it is about that male and female are in mixed classrooms. What is the
importance of co education in our society? That has become a vital part of every institution, helping
students from both genders to construct a mutual understanding between them. Some benefits of co
education are: it helps and teaches how to be successful by working together; removes thoughts of
superiority and inferiority between students from single sex education; students in co educational
schools grow to be confident expressing their view in the presence of the opposite sex; for both
genders co education provides more realistic way for students to face their places in the wider

The Taranaki War Was A War
The Taranaki war was a war that began in March 17 1860 and ended a year later, between the British
forces and Te Ati Awa tribe aided with kingitanga from the Maori Kingdom in Waikato, that began in
Waitara, Taranaki, and eventually spread out through the neighbouring areas of Taranaki region to
New Plymouth and Omata through strategic geographic isolation attempted by the British. Fought by
the thousands of troops from the British Imperial empire aided with troops from other British imperial
empires in Australia and Britain however orchestrated and started by NZ government and led by its
interests against the Maori tribes of Taranaki, consisting of around 600 Maori soldiers plus the
hundreds that arrived from Waikato, that practised guerilla warfare mostly. The motive of the NZ
British powers in orchestrating the war were to destroy the resistance of land grabbing in Taranaki
exerted by the Maori tribe Te Ati Awa. The Maori tribe leader claiming to own the land under Te Ati
Awa, Wiremu Kingi , decided to resist the British NZ government s attempt to utilize Te Ati Awa land
they purchased from a lower member of the tribe Te Ati Awa Te Teira that lived on that land, because
it was in Wiremu Kingi s interests as supreme Te Ati Awa chief to keep all the land proclaimed under
Te Ati Awa. This resistance led Britain to exert force against Kingi in order to succeed in their attempt
to claim land they believe they bought justifiably. After years of conflict, an even 200+

1 August 2014 Compare and Contrast Desdemona and Emilia in Othello In the play Othello , by
William Shakespeare, there are two significant ladylike assumes that draw in our consideration. One is
the wife of the play s tragic saint Othello; the other is locked in to one of the best malevolent
individuals ever Iago. They are an imperative piece of what goes ahead in the play and inevitably how
the genuine issue of the play is settled. These two females of the play might be investigated in various
ways. To start, both Desdemona and Emilia are the wives of men of activity. Their spouses are in the
Venetian military and standard men as well as men who hold positions and quality. Desdemona is the
wife of Othello who is a General in the armed force with men under his charge. Emilia s spouse is
Iago who is the extremely old of Othello. Next, the two women demonstrate a level of not knowing
anything about the plots in play around them. Unknowingly both Desdemona and Emilia play directly
into Iago s expert arrangement of pulverization. Desdemona and Emilia are likewise faithful wives
who need to satisfy their spouses. Othello accepts that Desdemona is improperly sexual and ; along

Comparison Of The Devil And Miss Prym
The book The Devil And Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho and the movie Hero starring Jet Li even though
in different languages, share a plethora of similarities. The Devil And Miss Prym tells the story of a
young woman from the village of Visco, Chantal Prym. Her life was very simple and seemed so
innocent, until the devil walked into Visco and offered her something she so strongly felt she deserved
a way out of Visco. Of course there was a small price to pay, somebody had to die. After this day
Chantal lived with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, constantly fighting to win her
over. In the end God s light shined brighter and Chantal was able to make the right decisions. The
movie, saving herself and her village. Hero by Jet Li was about an orphaned, nameless, assassin who
blamed the King for the death of his family, and wanted revenge. He was able to get within 10 paces
of the restless King making him believe he killed the 3 assassins that had been after him. The king
soon realized that Nameless s story did not add up and he had to be an assassin. Even so, he chose a
different fate, because of what broken sword had taught to him. This was his highest ideal, and with
that knowledge the desire to kill no longer existed, only peace, not revenge. When not blinded by hate
he was able to see the King s mission to unite all of China, and Spared, his life only after passing on
these wise words. Both stories main characters dealt a with a Person Versus Self battle, both Stories
had common archetypes with some playing the innocent and others the Sage, and both stories share a
philosophy and that is utilitarianism.
In both of these stories the biggest battle of all was fought within the mind of the main character.
Chantal faced this throughout much of the story as she questioned should she steal the gold? Should
she tell the villagers of the message the devil shared with her? Should she help Berta? It was a tough
battle between her morals, her ego and what she felt she deserved after living her whole life in Visco,
even though she was different than everyone else there. In the end she ended up realizing she wasn t
so different from them after all. She was able to fight the temptation, even though she

Marijuana User Summary
In relation to the differences in experimental, recreational, and being addicted to an illicit drug, I
would have to agree with Howard Beckers Becoming a Marijuana User, which he wrote in 1953. As
for the action of those in the category of experimental drug users, I believe that those are the ones who
have been aroused by some external factors, such as friends and/or media influences, as to the high
feelings that are associated with the effects of drugs, for the first time. Becker put it in a better sensible
notion when his study revealed: the process of learning to use and learning to associate its effects with
a sense of pleasure (Humphrey Schmalleger, 2012). With recreational drug usage, those are the people

The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
It is difficult for anyone to truly understand devastating situations that occur in our history unless we
actually experience them ourselves. No matter how much we research, how many pictures we observe,
or even the personal stories from the individuals who endure those hard times. We can imagine the
pain and tragedy of it, however, can we truly understand it? In The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen,
is a character named Hannah Stern who undergoes a glimpse of such a tragedy and completely shifts
her outlook on her family s history in the Holocaust. Throughout the story, Hannah depicts an
unappreciative hora towards remembering the past of her family, subsequently she receives the
glimpse of the past and completely transforms her attitude. Hannah attended a Seder that her
grandparents performed for Passover. Before she arrived, Hannah made excuses that she did not know
it was Passover, or that she forgot about it, and how she already ate to be excused from it. Her mother
explained the importance of remembering to her, which Hannah replied with, All Jewish holidays are
about remembering, Mama. I m tired of remembering (Yolen 4). Already demonstrating her
indifference about remembering what took place so long ago, one receives the sense that Hannah is
simply another teenager that is ignorant towards such important events in life. Her ignorance is also
demonstrated when Hannah had been younger and took a fascination in the number on her grandpa s
arm, therefore she thought

Summary Of Waiting For Superman
The documentary Waiting for Superman was both informative and eye opening, as it provided insight
into problems that exist within the public school system and demonstrated how difficult the education
reform has been thus far. Specifically, the director David Guggenheim brought light to the literacy
crisis within in the United States, investigated its many causes, and discussed changes that needed to
be made in order to ensure greater academic success among children in America. While this
documentary may cause great controversy among educators due to the exposure of poor test scores
and unfit teachers, there were many great points that should be reflected on by teachers, Speech
Language Pathologists, Literacy Specialists, and others professionals who play a role in the literacy of
our youth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is the role of Speech Language Pathologists to support children who exhibit deficits in
language and literacy to increase overall success. As a Speech Language Pathology graduate student
watching the documentary, it was especially important to keep this role in mind as statistics over a
span of many years have shown that literacy scores are poor/failing in many public schools within the
United States of America. This means that many children are falling behind in literacy which is
inhibiting overall academic success, which could then translate into difficulty functioning in society if
remediation does not occur during the child s educational term. Hence, this documentary corresponds
with Loyola s childhood literacy class and it reflects on how deficits related to literacy impacts the
child s lifetime success and states the importance of intensive instruction and intervention to improve

Analysis Of Randy Maddox s Visit The Poor
Randy Maddox s article in Transformation 18:1, Visit the Poor , explores social ministry in John

connection between social mission spiritual formation, and the Biblical imperatives for Works of
Mercy. Further to that, I will explain why I find issue with the contrasting doctrine of giving all the

points to my own church and faith life and assess their significance.

Things They Carried Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Alora Nguyen
Prof. Hesketh
Writing 39A: Academic Essay
27 February 2015
The Truth to the The Things They Carried When reading Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried,
there were many truths that were presented and while some were actual facts, others were fictional.
The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war story,
as a way to express unexplainable emotions. O Brien shows that the truth is unimportant in
communicating human emotions through stories because there are some emotions that can not be
explained through mere facts. In his collection of short shorties, O Brien writes in a style that is very
vivid and often times causes the audience to find themselves accepting the events and details of these
stories as the truth. O Brien contrasts the truth to fiction by reminding the audience that within these
short stories, the details are not the truth and are there to demonstrate the human emotions that can not
be communicated as absolute facts. It is in the Good Form that O brien presents the actual truth stating
in his first sentence, It s time to be blunt, and goes on to say that everything in the book, besides the ...

O Brien addresses the reader in Good Form by saying, I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to
know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening truth. This is the philosophy on which The
Things They Carried is written on. O Brien s point is not that the truth is unimportant, but that in
fictionalizing the truth, the reader can more wholly experience the human emotion not necessarily
based on fact. For example, at the end of Notes , O Brien writes, Norman Bowker was in no way
responsible for what happened to Kiowa. Norman did not experience a failure of nerve that night. He
did not freeze up or lose the Silver Star for valor. That part of the story is my

Palatable Food
The creation of palatable foods can sometimes prove difficult, due to migration. Therefore, many
Americans brought bulk foods with them, during their Western expansion. Some staple items during
this period could have consisted of salted meats, beans, flour, and any other items that have the ability
to keep long term without spoiling. We can only imagine how such meals would have tasted,
especially after eating the same thing for days at a time. However, one way to make appealing and
appetizing food, is through the use of condiments along with the fact that canning jars help people
store foods for lengthier periods.
Producing enjoyable edible meals would have been an ongoing issue in many Western American
mining towns such as Ouray, Colorado. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the 19th century, Americans were able to enjoy a wide range of condiments, which included
pepper sauces, Worcestershire Sauce, mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup (Gerth and Lindsey,
2011:21). The Spanish and Africans brought hot pepper sauces during their colonization and forced
slavery, particularly to the Mississippi Delta region (Snodgrass, 2004:157). Worcestershire Sauce was
created by Lea and Perrins, two British gentlemen, were tasked with trying to make an Indian sauce
with local English ingredients (Snodgrass, 2004:158). On the other hand, mustard has several
variations; however, these adaptations were only able to come about after the successful grinding of
mustard seeds into powder by a Mrs. Clements of Tewkesbury, England in 1720. Maurice Grey and
Auguste Poupon blended wine, grape must, black, and brown mustard seeds from Dijon France in
1886. Americans learned to enjoy this fiery condiment after Francis French created a milder flavored
mustard (Jones, 1983:70; Smith, 2013:600; Snodgrass, 2004:158). It was either the Duc de Richelieu
or his cook in 1756, who emulsified egg yolks, oil, vinegar, and seasonings to create a mayonnaise
(Smith, 2013:549; Snodgrass, 2004:158). Ketchup is believed to have gotten its name from either
China, Java, or Indonesia in 1690. This oriental style of sauce came from both preserved fish and
fermented salt pickles. However, cooks in the United States preferred to use tomatoes as the base for
this sauce. The condiment gained popularity after the Civil War, which also coincides with America s
expansion into the West (Gerth and Lindsey, 2011:21; Smith, 2013:502; Snodgrass,

An Exploration Of The Omnipotence Of Death
Amanda Stevenson Dr. Sigler EN 317 5 April 2016 An Exploration of the Omnipotence of Death
Initially, it seems as if the Death presented in Emily Dickinson s Because I could not for Death was
meant to parallel a suitor. In fact, Chris Semansky claims that Death in the poem is personified as a
suitor who takes his potential bride away from her busy life (Semansky). However, with further
investigation, it becomes evident that Death is actually a representation of God, extinguishing the
possibility of a romantic aspect. Death does not show any definite affection toward the speaker, but
rather, He is kind and respectful, which confirms that Death does not have to be seen as a suitor.
Although there is no explicit mention of spirituality within the poem, given Dickinson s Christian
background, along with her consistent poetic themes involving life and death from a religious
standpoint, an extended metaphor of God as Death is feasible. Death initially stops for the speaker
because she is unable to stop for herself, revealing the inabilities of mankind and the need for help in
some form. In Because I could not stop for Death , Dickinson reveals that man s short fallings are
consolidated through the manifestation of God s power. This is done through the illustration of a
carriage ride as well as the strategic use of a flashback. In alignment with Dickinson s other poems,
Because I could not stop for Death does not actually have a title. By taking the

Migrant Farm Workers
Migrant farm workers come to Canada to give themselves a better work opportunity and they believe
that will get the same rights as a Canadian. Globalization has allowed many of these migrant workers
to receive an indefinite status which allows many of these individuals rights that starts problems for
citizenship and human rights. What happens is the Canadian citizenship and international human
rights have allowed these migrant workers to come to work, but these workers find it difficult to

They are alienated as outsiders of Canadian citizenship because they are not a citizen or a member of
the Canadian community, but they do not realize it is just an illusion that has been shown to them.
This also means that these migrant workers are not part of the Canadian society and are excluded for
any rights that a citizen of Canada would have. Gabriel and MacDonald (2014) acknowledges that
Canada s immigration view on migrant worker is referred to as precarious status, which means
programs like SWAP use this status for many of the migrant farm workers because they cannot be a
permanent resident, have the lack of rights and entitlements, and cannot bring any family to Canada.
Due to globalization, there has been a citizenship gap that has been created which allows certain
individuals to have the right to have claims, entitlement and status. This is not universal because
again, migrant farm workers are alienated and excluded from this right. When looking at the struggles
of migrant farm workers face for citizenship rights and human rights, there is correlation that these
struggles are use against them to help Canada secure rights of agricultural

Waugh considered the opinion of his neighbor regarding the box as the vision of a thing which is not
present at all. In the same way, Gilbert thinks that BBC correspondent angel (object of many of his
paranoid fantasies) is utilizing The Box so as to send various voices to his office or cabin present on
the ship as per the waugh s work. These voices are just the imagination of Gilbert. Because, the voices
get stopped when he avoids to take drugs and returns from the ship to England. Thus, the voices
coming to his office are completely imaginary.
The Box has some religious significance in.regards with the old testament, The box is the ark of the
covenant containing words said by the God. Moreover, these words are related to the judaeo christian.
These small boxes containing the scrolls on which words of God are written is used by the Orthodox
Jews. In this way, The Box is a religious thing and Pinfold believed that it is negative thing which is
used by BBC correspondence so as to send the voices into his cabin on the ship.On the other hand,
Some colleagues of the pinfold think that the Gilbert Pinfold is Jewish by religion. So, It is noticeable
that Gilbert Pinfold had all the negative thoughts about the box and it is only the result of overdosage

Essay Comparing The Awakening And A Doll s House
The Awakening, a novel by Kate Chopin, and A Doll s House, a play by Henrik Ibsen are both works
of literature that can be facilely compared. Both works were written around the late 1800 s, a time
when men dominated the lives of women. Each story contains a woman protagonist who seeks to
understand herself better rather than continuing to conform into the standard societal stereotype of
women. Both Nora and Edna grew to feel suffocated by their husbands orders, in which they clearly

The Transformation Of Genes On The Mitochondrial And...
Transformation is a procedure where cells take up foreign DNA from their environment. This can
happen in either prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. A circular self replicating molecule of DNA known as
a plasmid transfers genetic information between bacteria enabling the microbes to gain antibiotic
resistance as well as the ability to adapt to a new environment. Bacteria also have the capability to
acquire small pieces (at random) of DNA from their environment but this however is said to be
inefficient because only a small fraction of cells will uptake DNA and become transformed.
Expressions of genes on the plasmid will alter the genotype and phenotype of the cell. Under specific
laboratory conditions a cell which is incubated with the plasmid DNA has the ability to absorb the
plasmid into its own cytoplasm. Because these natural processes can potentially be modified by
scientists, the transformation procedure can be used as a means of treating human diseases to increase
the quality of life.
Genetic transformation will be assisted with the use of plasmid pGLO which contains four features.
Origin of replication (ori), ampicillin resistance gene (bla), arabinose promoter protein (araC) and the
Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP gene). The Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) is extracted from a
bioluminescent (encodes fluorescent protein) jellyfish called Aequorea Victoria which glows green

Vincent Willem Van Gogh Of The Protestant Church
Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born to Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Reverend Theodorus van Gogh
of the protestant church on March 30th, 1853. Exactly a year to the date after their first child was

namesake of, could have added to his psychological trauma. There however is no historical evidence
of this being factual. While not is known much about Vincent, we do know that he was a quiet child
and spent little to no time in the arts that would one day make him famous. In his adolescence Vincent
had attended multiple schools, including a boarding school in Zevenbergen for two years and then
went on to attend the King Willem II secondary school in Tilburg for two more years. By the time
Vincent was 15 he had left his studies for good. After leaving his studies, Vincent acquired a job at

How Is Situational Irony Used In The Scarlet Letter
Novelist, Ernest Hemingway, in his novel, The Scarlet Letter, writes about the Puritan life and how
some characters with through a rough path of disobeying the Puritan culture. He has many characters
that represent many different things in his novel. Hemingway uses an abundance of rhetorical
strategies. One of the ones that he uses is irony. He uses different types of irony such as verbal,
situational and dramatic to shows the imperfect world that the Puritans really had. Verbal irony is
when the speakers says one thing but means another, or saying something without realizing its
significance. An example of verbal irony would be when Hester stands on the scaffold. Dimmesdale
wants her to tell her sins. Dimmesdale tells her that her silence would only add hypocrisy to sin. This
is ironic because he does not know how much hypocrisy his life will be. Another example of verbal

Dramatic irony is when the reader knows something that characters in the story do not know. An
example would be when Hester tries to convince the governor to let her keep Pearl because they do
not think that she is a fit mother. She wants Dimmesdale to talk for her because he knows her best.
This is dramatic irony because everybody else thinks he knows her best because he is the reverend but
the reader knows that he actually committed the same sin and their equal. Another example of
dramatic irony would be when Dimmesdale becomes sick and moves in with Chillingworth because
he is the town s doctor and his suppose to nurse him back to better. Chillingworth is only making
Dimmesdale sickness worse. He reminds him of how bad it is to commit sin and what it does to you. It
is also dramatic irony because the reader knows that Dimmesdale is Hester s father before anybody
else knows. Hawthorne uses dramatic irony to create the story and all of its good

Ralph Waldo Emerson And His Ideas
Ralph Waldo Emerson ingrained into America his acts of individualism, independence, and the
general appreciation of nature. Though his ideas were sometimes controversial, he influenced many
young minds with this teachings.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was constantly thinking of new ideas while he was redefining his view of the
world. Emerson had a natural eloquence in expressing his ideas in his poems, essays, and lectures; and
he is one of the most quoted authors in American history.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and he was the son of a Unitarian minister.
His father died when he was seven and he then went to live with his aunt, Mary Moody Emerson.
Mary Moody Emerson encouraged Ralph Waldo Emerson s independent thinking. Emerson later went
on to go to Harvard at age fourteen, and he went to the Harvard Divinity School for his postgraduate
studies.
After he graduated from Harvard Divinity School, Ralph Waldo Emerson became a pastor at the
Second Church of Boston. Emerson s minister career did not last long. His young wife died, and he
was dissatisfied with the spiritual restrictions with Unitarianism. He was only a minister for three
years.
While in Europe, Ralph Waldo Emerson met Thomas Carlyle, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and William
Wordsworth. When he returned to the United States, he settled in Concord, Massachusetts with his
new wife, Lydia Jackson.
Lydia Jackson was a very supportive wife to Ralph Waldo Emerson as he started his writing career.

affected people due to there not being enough resources such as food; hunger was a serious problem
for the people of Haiti. Diseases started to spread after the earthquake. According to Allison

For the sake of the Empire, factories were increasing the size of Britain s economy and cities were growing, the military was gaining strength, Britain was at the forefront of modern technology during the time. In fact, the way technology is described and used in the novel, it can be viewed as a subliminal compliment from Stoker about the lengths in which society has developed in that regard. Most effectively the Crew of Light gets to utilize technology whereas Dracula is painfully unaware of the advancements of recent sciences. Well, you know what we have to contend against; but we, too, are not without strength...we have the resources of science (Stoker 282). The utilization of modern technology and Bram Stoker s constant reference to trains paints a vivid image of two things. One, science has improved and is praiseworthy, and two, that Victorian society finds itself superior partially because of the technology it possesses. The author was a very inquisitive person consequentially the main characters all seem to share a fascination with modern machinery. As the economy developed under Queen Victoria s rule, trade ships ended up becoming navies, and towns became thriving cities. Even in communication with each other they used a phonograph, a recording device. This expanse of growth due to modern technology kept England ahead of other countries, and so society ... An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Essay An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Most readers are familiar with the poetry of Robert Frost, but they may not be familiar with his poem Once by the Pacific. This poem stands out from most of his popular poems, which frequently relate to rural New England life. Many critics have thus commented that his works are too simple. Once by the Pacific, however, seems to challenge this opinion, as it is one of Frost s more difficult poems to interpret. Although this poem also is connected with nature, the theme is more universal in that it could be related to Armageddon, or the end of the world. Even though this theme may seem simple, it is really complex because we do not know how Frost could possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, God promised in Genesis 9:15 that never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. It seems that Frost portrays nature as having its own plan, as he writes with nature in the active voice. Also, why does Frost speak of this in the past tense? Perhaps Frost was thinking back to the Great Flood and painting a picture of someone by the shore before the waters started to rise. Thus, the age Frost writes about could be interpreted as the pre Noah days on earth. Perhaps Frost is not implying that the earth was or will be destroyed by flood, even though it seems water is the destructive element. Frost could simply be creating a mood or atmosphere as a setting before the destruction to come. The low and hairy clouds create a gloomy feeling that Frost later describes as a night of dark intent. The intense images and confusing tense can fool the reader into thinking that this event has already taken place. A close examination of the tense and words reveal that the event has not occurred, but the strong images create a feeling of certainty that the end is beginning. Frost brings this intensity to a climax with the line someone had better be prepared for rage. Also, Frost speaks of an event much more powerful than flood with the last two lines, There would be more than ocean water broken / Before God s last Put out the Light was ... Homeschooling Disadvantages George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have latched onto Shaw s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there are approximately 1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an alternative to mainstream public schooling, and it is performed within the home through curriculums, co ops, or online education systems. Homeschooling is advantageous because homeschooled children are proven to perform better academically, they can avoid inimical mainstream school situations, and parents can specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child individually. First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have access to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns, Meehan and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the parents are highly encouraging. They also accomplish more socially and academically because adults typically view their children as advanced in comparison to other kids, causing children to live up to that expectation (7). Summary After World War II, aircraft structures had to be redesigned to enable the use of turbojet power instead of piston engine power. After its first flight on February 15th, 1946, the DC 6 piston powered aircraft quickly became the workhorse for passenger aircraft. With a wingspan of one hundred and seventeen feet, six inches, and a total length of one hundred feet, seven inches, this airframe was able to hold roughly one hundred and five individuals. For nearly ten years, the DC 6 was incomparable to any other airframes at that time. It was capable of carrying over a hundred passengers, and also very heavy cargo payloads. However, on December 20th, 1957 a new bird entered the sky, and its name was the Boeing 707. With four 13,500 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a high demand of passengers from civilian airliners after World War II, aircraft manufacturers, such as Boeing, needed to create an airframe capable of meeting such demands. They needed an airframe that could withstand extremely altitudes, high cruising speeds, and be capable of higher payloads. III. Significance of the Problem The problem was significant because major airliners in the United States needed an airframe as soon as possible, and that could outweigh the competition of other airliners. The Boeing Company had the answers to all the airliner s questions and concerns, and within no time engineers began working on the design for a new turbojet aircraft. IV. Factors, Issues and Solutions Factor 1. Design an airframe capable of extreme altitudes Issue. Even though the DC 6 cabin was pressurized, and could operate at nearly 29,000 feet, Boeing had to create an airframe that could cruise even higher. The higher cruising altitude would allow for better fuel consumption, and cruising range. It would also allow for smoother air travel for passengers because weather would be no factor at such altitudes. Solution. In order to accomplish this, Boeing would need to create an airframe out of aluminum alloy and have a very sleek shape to constrict drag. The DC 6 like many other airframes used aluminum alloy because it was strong, lightweight, and durable at extreme temperatures. Boeing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. India s The Partition Of India The partition of India is one of the defining chapters in India s entire history. Although many different reasons caused the partition, political factors were a key player in bringing about this monumental change in India s borders. The pre existing communal differences between Hindus and Muslims grew as a result of the fears of both groups losing power and giving up control to the other. The partition which was supposed to grant freedom and independence for all Indians resulted in creating a deeper hatred and animosity which would cost countless lives through riots, rape, and mass murder for decades to come. Gandhi said in actual life, it is impossible to separate us into two nations. We are not two nations. Every Moslem will have a Hindu name if he goes back far enough in his family history. Every Moslem is merely a Hindu who has accepted Islam. That does not create nationality. . . . We in India have a common culture. In the North, Hindi and Urdu are understood by both Hindus and Moslems. In Madras, Hindus and Moslems speak Tamil, and in Bengal, they both speak Bengali and neither Hindi nor Urdu. When communal riots take place, they are always provoked by incidents over cows and by religious processions. The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war story, as a way to express unexplainable emotions. O Brien shows that the truth is unimportant in communicating human emotions through stories because there are some emotions that can not be explained through mere facts. In his collection of short shorties, O Brien writes in a style that is very vivid and often times causes the audience to find themselves accepting the events and details of these stories as the truth. Worcestershire Sauce was created by Lea and Perrins, two British gentlemen, were tasked with trying to make an Indian sauce with local English ingredients (Snodgrass, 2004:158). On the other hand, mustard has several variations; however, these adaptations were only able to come about after the successful grinding of mustard seeds into powder by a Mrs. Clements of Tewkesbury, England in 1720. Maurice Grey and Auguste Poupon blended wine, grape must, black, and brown mustard seeds from Dijon France in 1886. Americans learned to enjoy this fiery condiment after Francis French created a milder flavored mustard (Jones, 1983:70; Smith, 2013:600; Snodgrass, 2004:158). • 24. An Exploration Of The Omnipotence Of Death Amanda Stevenson Dr. Sigler EN 317 5 April 2016 An Exploration of the Omnipotence of Death Initially, it seems as if the Death presented in Emily Dickinson s Because I could not for Death was meant to parallel a suitor. In fact, Chris Semansky claims that Death in the poem is personified as a suitor who takes his potential bride away from her busy life (Semansky). However, with further investigation, it becomes evident that Death is actually a representation of God, extinguishing the possibility of a romantic aspect. Death does not show any definite affection toward the speaker, but rather, He is kind and respectful, which confirms that Death does not have to be seen as a suitor. Although there is no explicit mention of spirituality within the poem, given Dickinson s Christian background, along with her consistent poetic themes involving life and death from a religious standpoint, an extended metaphor of God as Death is feasible. Death initially stops for the speaker because she is unable to stop for herself, revealing the inabilities of mankind and the need for help in some form. In Because I could not stop for Death , Dickinson reveals that man s short fallings are consolidated through the manifestation of God s power. This is done through the illustration of a carriage ride as well as the strategic use of a flashback. In alignment with Dickinson s other poems, Because I could not stop for Death does not actually have a title. By taking the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Transformation Of Genes On The Mitochondrial And... Transformation is a procedure where cells take up foreign DNA from their environment. This can happen in either prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. A circular self replicating molecule of DNA known as a plasmid transfers genetic information between bacteria enabling the microbes to gain antibiotic resistance as well as the ability to adapt to a new environment. Bacteria also have the capability to acquire small pieces (at random) of DNA from their environment but this however is said to be inefficient because only a small fraction of cells will uptake DNA and become transformed. Expressions of genes on the plasmid will alter the genotype and phenotype of the cell. Under specific laboratory conditions a cell which is incubated with the plasmid DNA has the ability to absorb the plasmid into its own cytoplasm. Because these natural processes can potentially be modified by scientists, the transformation procedure can be used as a means of treating human diseases to increase the quality of life. Genetic transformation will be assisted with the use of plasmid pGLO which contains four features. Origin of replication (ori), ampicillin resistance gene (bla), arabinose promoter protein (araC) and the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP gene).
