Rhyolite History
The 19th century saw a construction and population boom in North America, as a result of the
California Gold Rush and the flourishing of the mining industry all over the United States, which drew
new settlers from Europe, Latin America and Asia. Once the gold and coal resources dried up, many
of these newly found, remote towns emptied out, as its inhabitants moved to larger areas looking for
new opportunities. These are some of the coolest ghost towns that still stand within American territory.
Number Seven: Bodie, California
Prospector W.S. Body founded Bodie in 1859 in California, close to the Nevada border, after finding
gold reserves in the area. At the peak of the Gold Rush, Bodie had a population of 10,000. By 1950,
the town was completely deserted. Nowadays, it remains a popular ... Show more content on

Rhyolite had everything a developed city needs: a city hall, a hospital, a school, an opera house, water
mains and electricity. During the early 20s, everyone fled the town.
Number Two: Goldfield, Arizona
The once thriving gold mining town died around 1989, only to reborn and die again a few times later.
Goldfield, located against the dramatic Superstition Mountains, is one of the most scenic and
cinematic Old West towns in the U.S. Year round exhibits and re enactments are offered to groups of
visitors.
Number One: Calico, California
Calico is now the most popular ghost town in the United States. Located in the Mojave Desert,
between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Calico is an abandoned Old West silver mining town founded
around 1881. In the 1950s, the forsaken village was restored to look more like a prototypical Western
themed town, and was later named a California National Landmark. The park is open every day
(except for Christmas day) and requires tourists to pay an entrance fee. Camping sites and rental
cabins are also offered. Thanks for

Essay on Dracula and the Modern Vampire
His skin is pale, with slicked back hair, lips blood red, and his pearly white teeth sharp; he s Dracula,
the original vampire. Bram Stoker s famous novel Dracula, which was written in 1897, started the
vampire craze that still lasts today. It has sparked numerous novels, movies, and songs across the
world through the year, and its popularity is still growing. As times have changed, so have Dracula
and his predecessors. Dracula is about Count Dracula meeting this human Jonathan Harker for
business and Jonathan along with his friends learn that Count Dracula is a vampire. In the end Count
Dracula is killed before he can reach the safety of Transylvania. Bram Stoker s novel Dracula is the
pinnacle of all modern concepts of vampires; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there was no reflection of him in the mirror...I saw the cut had bled...When the Count saw my
face, his eyes blazed with a sort of demoniac fury, and he suddenly made a grab at my throat...his hand

have originated from Dracula; they have become more involved, complex, and overall superior
because of their abilities. There have been major changes to the vampire character, but nothing too
radical all at once like completely changing the vampire characteristics so much that it does not
resemble Dracula. Instead, the change has been gradual, to suit people s demands (Deggans). True
Blood, Twilight, and The Vampire Diaries are all examples of modern concepts of Dracula. Though
they are all vampire stories, the vampires no longer play by the same rules as Count Dracula. Some
can walk in daylight with the help of magic, some can control minds, but none can shape shift
(Jackson; Deggans). They appear in mirrors, unlike Count Dracula and their eyes change color in most
modern vampire novels instead of staying red. Just as Count Dracula they all drink blood staying to
the true vampire characteristic. These modern vampires are superior because of their greater abilities
compared to their ancestor Dracula. Modern writers have gotten inspiration from Dracula, but they

Persuasive Essay Comparing Two Planets
In 1905 Pervical Lowell was the fist person to notice Pluto and he started observing Neptune and
Uranus and he observed a similarity from this two planets and Pluto. After almost 25 years Pluto then
was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh and like it was stated in the Pluto files Core Friday, Pluto was
then named after an 11 year old girl who told her grandfather that the new world get its name from the
Roman god of the underworld from there her grandfather passed the name on to Lowell Observatory.
Pluto was once consider the ninth most distant planet from the sun , but in recent years research have

have reclassified Pluto as one of the largest dwarf planet in the solar system. In 2006 when Pluto was

Masculinity In Things Fall Apart
In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, is a novel where the reader is introduced with an African
culture, the Igbo culture. It portrays the culture before the confrontation between Nigeria s white
colonial and the traditional culture of Igbo people. One of the character s presented in the novel values
manliness to the extreme and somewhat gets out of hand. The Igbo culture presents the essential role
men had and why they were the head of the family.Men that had titles were considered as a successful
man and were well respected due to their achievements. They were presented as the ruler of the
family, because in the Igbo culture women are presented as the weaker gender, which leads the men to

Okonkwo s characterization in the opening of the novel reveals that men gained their fame by
personal achievement which then leads them to be considered as a successful man. Okonkwo is
portrayed as a honorable and well respected man. He did not let his father s characterization affect
him. Fortunately, among these people a man was judged according to his worth and not according to
the worth of his father (achebe8). Evidently, this shows that his value of manliness is very important to
him, being a successful man is an important role to him. Weakness and femininity were the two
characteristics that are vile to him, he tends to call out men with no tiles or accomplishment, women.
Okonkwo does not value manliness just because he desires to, but because it also plays an important
role in his culture. The men in the Igbo culture are the head of the family, and the only person who has
the authority to do anything they desire. Men with titles and personal achievement were represented as
successful men, because they demonstrated that they were capable of being worthy and showed no
weakness. In their culture women were seen as the weaker gender that is why men were the head of

Costing and Pricing Decisions
Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS
Costing and Pricing Decisions
Cost Allocations
Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect
costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs
can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate
fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Three common
costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs and opportunity
costs (Jiambalvo, 2007).
Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint
products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs.
A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the
assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about the
company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they
are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way
Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the
opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based on sunk
costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on being able
to price their future products appropriately.
Opportunity Costs
An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of this
would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying your
credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a result of
not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo, 2007).

are also a few more examples of free ASP tools. Besides, there are paid ASP services also. So how
does ASP operate? It operates as given below.
 The software provider owns the software, the hardware like servers and resources like the support
team
 The software provider makes the software available to the customers through Internet
 And the customer pays the service provider on a fixed model that is, on a monthly basis or per use
format.
c) Advantages and disadvantages of implementing ASP:
The advantages of implementing ASP is that, this model helps in saving time and cost involved in
implementing a technological infrastructure, like servers, network software, database etc. Besides this,
each time software updations happen, expert support is provided by the service provider. However, the
service terms and conditions are to be defined. Besides, these some more advantages are listed here.
Elimination of Software integration problems from the client s premises
The cost of the software application is spread over a number of clients
The service providers gain more experience in the application than the internal staff

Ancient Cultures Beliefs
Way back in the ancient cultures beliefs and faith played a major roll in their lifetime. It treasured the
art that spoke to them and made them closer to god, since writing was not indicate back then. Some
believed in only one god, some in many gods and some people believed in objects like animals, the
sun, items and even the weather. After visiting the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth and observing
some of the ancient Egyptian art collection displayed, I have decided to pick the theme of God to
inform about. After my research, I discovered new and different key points about the Egyptian beliefs
in god and how it affects us in our world today. My first object is the Kneeling Statue of Senenmut,
Chief Steward of Queen Hatshepsut, the second object is Red Figure Cup Showing the Death of
Pentheus (exterior) and a Maenad (interior) and the last object is the Head of a Ewe.
The first object that I have picked while I was at the museum is the Kneeling Statue of Senenmut,
Chief Steward of Queen Hatshepsut. It is said that it was created in the early 18th century between the
years 1473 1458 B.C. The instant I walked in into the Ancient Egyptian collection I couldn t take my
eye off of that sculpture, due to that being it was probably the the darkest object there. The kneeling
Statue of Senenmut was engraved from a grayish green stone, I like this object because, all the
achievement and work that Senenmut have done in his life was carved all over this object. One of my

What Is The Use Of Symbolism In Beginning Again, By Franz...
In his poem, Beginning Again, Franz Wright uses acute forms of symbolism to convey a collective
human desire to become better. It is common to have experiences in life where there is a desire, after
self realization, for a new start as a better person. In fantasy, an improved version of one s self would
not be plagued with issues, rather they are idealized as being carefree and composed. The idea of
future improvement, in combination with the macabre chaos caused by Wright s use of symbolism,
intensify the relatability of the poem. From the poem s first line, If I could stop talking, completely
cease talking for a year, I might begin to get well, it is evident that the narrator has had past trouble
with his mouth. This reiterates

and that from the very beginning she was trying to separate her from her dad. Then, when I ask her to
tell me about her dad, she went on to tell me that her dad and her, have always had a close bond, and
that she feels until this day that she has to protect her dad from her stepmom, as she has done some
pretty bad stuff to her dad during and after their marriage. I then ask the dreamer to explain what her
stepmom has done to her dad in the past and now that they are divorce? She discloses that when her
dad was marry, her stepmom was not a very responsible caregiver because she used to leaved her dad
to take care of all the children and all of the responsibilities of the house, and when her stepmom
returned home there always seem to be a lot of conflicts between her and her dad as he was starting to

The focus of this lab was to identify which plasmid (PFG or Pglo) was inserted into the E. coli culture.
In order for the E. coli to be transformed, the E.coli must first be made competent. The cells were
made competent by incubating the cells in calcium (2+) and then in cold temperatures. A quick heat
shot opens pores in the cell membrane and allowed plasmid DNA to enter the cells. The plasmid that
was inserted into the E. coli culture had antibiotic reistance gene and a reporter gene. A reporter gene

The second method was to purify plasmid DNA from the E. coli culture and physcically analyze the

Techniques of Conflict Resolution Observed in the Semai...
Conflict is the incompatible needs, differing demands, contradictory wishes, opposing beliefs or
diverging interests which produce interpersonal antagonism and, at times, hostile encounters (Bonta
1996: 405). Conflict resolution can be defined as the ability of individuals or groups of people to settle
or avoid disputes through strategies that stop violence and bring people together in one peace (Bonta
1996: 406). A society in which interpersonal harmony is of a relatively high degree, with little or no
physical violence occurring among both adults and children and strategies that work towards resolving
conflicts and against violence (Bonta 1996: 405) is said to be a peaceful society. This paper will be

Persuasive Speech About Breakfast
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Who here didn t have their breakfast this morning? I bet most
of you did. I used to be one of those too until last month when I did a research on Biology and by
chance, came across a fact about how important breakfast is. I believe that as soon as you heard the
topic, you will assume that I am going to give you a life lesson as your parents do. Breakfast is the
most essential meal is spoken by every mother, yet the reasons why we should eat breakfast have
never been clarified more clearly and seriously. The following speech will highlight that breakfast is
required for three main reasons; first, it helps improve our grades; second, it controls our balance diet;
and more importantly; it can promote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To correct all misunderstandings, breakfast indeed helps us control healthy diets and even lose weight.
How? Technically, skipping breakfast means your sugar level in blood drops even lower than the
required standard. As a result, it will trigger your hunger and you will have less energy, which means
that by lunch time you would be starving to death, and feel like you can eat a whole cow. As a
consequence, you would end up overeating. What s about if we just ensure that we do not over
consume for the rest of the day? Admittedly, for that case, you might lose some weight, but according
to www. prevention.com, a reward of longterm skipping breakfast is to gain dangerous belly fat in
return. For girls, it is believed that not having a regular eating habit can critically contribute to a risk
of menstrual cycle irregularity. In order not to be like this, you should eat breakfast regularly to make

Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States...
Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn
the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier s Creed starting on their first day. Even with this
strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas
that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful
implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault
Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them.
Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the
biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information and
statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United States
Army is pencil whipping 350 1 training.
At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non
commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She then
explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet. I was
appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the integrity that
I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there was never enough
time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete.

Outline Of Historical Views On Child Welfare Workforce And...
Week 1 Child Welfare Workforce and NASW Standards Provide an overview of historical views on
children and identify how this will impact your role in empowering families, protecting children from
maltreatment, and engaging in ethical decision making as a child welfare worker. Historically,
children were viewed very differently than they are today. Adults thought of children as being seen
and not heard. Children were expected to work in textile factories or as chimney sweeps in order to
provide for their families. They did not have rights and in the family, children followed the rule do as
you re told so they would survive. It was not until 1875 when the thought of the rights of children
came about. Rights of children stemmed from their status dependent, immature individuals who
require care, protection, and guidance to survive and flourish, (Downs, Moore McFadden, 2009, p. 7).
Politicians thought children deserved an education and protection, so they introduced child saving
activities that advocated for the improving the lives of and conditions for children. Since this was
enacted orphanages were developed for communities that experienced disasters and orphan trains
helped in resettling over 100,000 children. In 1924 the League of Nations approved the Geneva
Declaration of of the Rights of a Child which gave children rights such as receiving food, healthcare,
protection, and shelter (Strohm, Powerpoint, September 3). Having the history is beneficial because it

Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood
The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed.
But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning,
and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character,
Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a woman s power to exercise their control over men. As
a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct
and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him,
as well as her skill and intelligence.
In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard
to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By
purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her
power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by
the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers
the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also
foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as
those of a prostitute.
Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics.
Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is

Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond

which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him
interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible
is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese
community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost
identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth
that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to

Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s
lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. However, Ichiro s

The Lion King And Hamlet Comparison Essay
The circumstances from the film The Lion King are similar to that of Shakespeare s play entitled
Hamlet. Creators of Walt Disney s The Lion King were inspired by the theme of conflict between
Claudius and his nephew Hamlet. Simba and his uncle Scar represent a famous struggle for power.
The connections between The Lion King and Hamlet displayed a recurring and timeless event
throughout the centuries. The influences of claudias brother s power, money, and life make Claudias

wanted to kill Claudias to get revenge for his father s death, king Hamlet. Laerters and Claudias work
together on a plot to kill Hamlet. Claudias tells Polonius to spy on Hamlet. During this affair Hamlet
acts rough with his mother Ophelia. She then cries out for help and so does Polonius. Hamlet mistakes
Poliniuses voice Claudiases and kills him. Essentially, what Claudias is doing is putting people like
Polonius in bad positions so that his son Laertes gets mad and wants to kill Hamlet. Since Polonius
was Laertes father he now wants revenge from Hamlet. Showing love to Laertes, Claudias arranges a
fencing match between the two. The goal of this fight is to make it seem that Hamlets death was an
accident. This shows Claudiases struggle for power because this will give Claudias the power he
wants in the throne. This quote states, In the play, Hamlet is introduced as a troubled man in deep
depression. He was mourning the death of his beloved father and his mother s marriage to his uncle. In
Act 1 Scene 2 Claudius gives Hamlet a speech to try and get him to stop bringing up his father,

Describe The Differences Between Paul And Robinson s Life
The mill factories of the early 19th century are quite different from what we know and perceive to be
factory work today. One might be surprised initially that a girl would want to go to the mills given the
current perception of them, but in this time the mills were quite attractive initially for many women.
Mary Paul initially tried to find work as a domestic for a farming family but after that failed, she
moved to the mills in Lowell looking for work (Dublin 121). Most women in the early 19th century
didn t have opportunities to earn and income. Lowell was such a unique place at this time as it
provided women work for money and a chance to move of their own accord to somewhere new. At

water access to the ports. Faster transportation from canals and railroads caused an increase in the area
factories could supply people with manufactured goods. Newly settled western areas became states
and opened up a market for more people needing goods (Foner 332 3).This created a second hub for
factories away from Boston that was competing to sell their goods. The area of where they sold their
products began to overlap, creating a need to produce faster and cheaper. The Embargo of 1807 that
helped spur the factories initially continued to contribute to the growth of new factories into the 1950 s

manufactured goods, as mentioned by Mary Paul. The companies began to cut wages to compete

as the Tien Shan and the Pamir, the latter is known as the roof of the world . The mountains of Central

of its unique geographical locations. The mountains play the role of the origins for many varieties of

Analysis Of The Book Animals By Simon Rich
Synthesis Essay Animals by Simon Rich is an outstanding short story which takes a unique
perspective on the everyday life in a classroom. The story is written from the point of view of a
hamster who spends his tortured life entrapped in a cage. From the first point in this story it is clear
that the purpose of the writing is not to understand the hamster, but rather to analyse the different
actions of the people, and to discover that how they act towards the hamsters reflects on their
character. It is curious to view the everyday interactions of people through a different set of eyes, that
is done by humanizing the narrator s perspective. Based on the actions of the many people and the
treatment of the class pet, the author suggests that human nature is very much a product of the
financial circumstances a person is subjected to. There are a couple of key characters in this story, the
first of which is Simon. He is just one of many strikingly similar students in homeroom 2k. Simon,
like many of the students is irresponsible, and unsympathetic towards the hamsters. Simon jeopardizes
the lives of the hamsters by attempting to joke around instead of completing his assigned task, which
involves giving them food and water. The majority of the story takes place in a private school, and the
reader can make the assumption that the student s parents are wealthy. The author portrays simon as
well as the other kids in a bad light, that they are, by default, poorly behaved and somewhat

How Did Religion Shape The History Of The Middle Ages
Religion was extremely important in regard to the shaping and history of the Middle Ages in Europe.
The Catholic Church, which began during the glory days of the Roman Empire, became the driving
force through the Middle Ages in Europe, managing to formulate a unified religious ruling body, a
deep spirituality, and oversaw cultural preservation that helped shape the history of Europe during this
period.
The Church managed to integrate herself into medieval society, where she could become part of the
everyday life of the people. She did this through a structured hierarchy, with the Pope, or the Bishop
of Rome, as her head, and other bishops were given dioceses around the world, and under each bishop
were priests who would minister to the people. This structured hierarchy came about with the collapse
of the Roman Empire. When the Emperor Constantine came to power, he recognized and supported
Christianity, and he created a new capital for the empire in the east. These two actions allowed the
Church and the Pope in Rome to grow in power, firstly because Constantine declared Christianity to
be legal, so they could openly practice their religion, and secondly because he moved the capital and

made copies of the works of pagan antiquity, which allowed much ancient writing to be carefully

This could be a major factor in why the island was so heavily contested for hundreds of years; the
island is arguably a great launching point for the French Navy to attack the British. With
communication during this time period being relatively slow given the lack of modern technology, it
would have been easy for the island to be captured by the French without mainland Britain
immediately knowing. Thus, there was a great incentive on the part of the British to keep this island
well defended so as to protect it from any potential French attacks. Such an assertion can be bolstered
not only by the fact that Queen Elizabeth I decided to build a castle off the southern coast of the island
in 1594, which could have been done to provide ample protection of the south coastline, but also the
production of the map itself in 1600 which is now held by the Yale Center for British Art. There are

A Common Critique Of Disabilities Ministry
In Madeline Burghardt s article, she describes a common critique of L Arche by disability scholars.
Namely, that L arche does not sufficiently address broader policy and human rights concerns

world through small things with extraordinary love, mutual relationships, and interdependence. On the
one hand, L Arche never claimed to be a site of activism in the typical way. Yet, now that they have
grown in prominence, is this a responsibility that comes with their visibility? Expanding this idea out
practically to churches and religious communities, I have seen churches who do have a disabilities
ministry be content with developing relationships.

controls are extremely useful when performing data entry tasks with a database driven web
application. Often, the forms used to edit data are in reference to an entry within the database that has
an integer primary key. This key is usually arbitrary integer that increments automatically, provides
indexing, and has absolutely no meaning to the user. When the user selects to update the data, it is
important that the systems knows what ID is being updated. However, there is no reason to display
this ID to the user. In order to submit the ID of the edited database record along with the modified
form fields, the ID can be assigned to a hidden input control. Data integrity with input controls is
achieved both by the nature of the controls themselves and basic script validation techniques. As far as
scripting is concerned, each data field can be easily verified upon submit before sending the data to
the server. For the types of input controls chosen, selecting inappropriate input controls can result in
data integrity issues. A text input control is rather straight forward. It is also the easiest field to

gradually withering into little more than a side show attraction. Rather than scholarly journals, articles,

may bring to business. (Rigby). This plight of exoticism is not exclusive to the Maori; aboriginal and

To appreciate the fall of the Maori to appropriation, one must understand their origins. Most scholars
agree Māori arrived to New Zealand sometime between 1000 and 1300 AD; some evidence suggests
an even earlier arrival. Māoris named the new land Aotearoa, meaning Land of the Long White Cloud.
, a fitting name for a promising new land. Māori society was tribal; Each person belonged to a family
(whanau), a sub tribe (hapu), and the full tribe (iwi). Perhaps it was their strong tribal ties that allowed
the Maori to weather extended conflict, continuing to thrive well before European influence touched
the continent. The first European to see New Zealand was a Dutchman called Abel Tasman, who
arrived in 1642. Early travelers clashed violently with the natives and were not keen to return. The
unpleasant first impression fresh in memory, the land was dubbed New Zeland after a Dutch province,
and left relatively untouched until 1769. It would be the ocean s bounty that would entice Europeans
back to the continent towards the end of the 18th century. First came the sealers, followed by the
whalers at the beginning of the 19th century. These sailors began to cut wood from New Zealand for
masts and spas, over time settlements began to sprout. Europeans began buying land from the Maori.
The white population of New Zealand grew at a tremendous rate; by 1861 it was almost 100,000, and

Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting
1. Write a descriptive paragraph of the physical environment, describe the room, number of people
attending, ages, gender, ethnicity, etc.
The Alcoholic Anonymous meeting I attended was organized by East Valley Intergroup of Alcoholics
Anonymous, at Montessa Meeting Hall in Gold Canyon, Arizona. This meeting occurred at 1000 on a
Wednesday morning. The room, where the meeting occurred, consisted of a business meeting
atmosphere, with wooden walls, lack of windows, 12 metal chairs in a circular construction, with an
informal dress code. Twelve individuals attended the group 8 members, 2 family members, the leader
of the group, and myself. Of the twelve individuals, seven were males and five were females. The
individuals in the group appeared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I introduced myself to the leader, asked him about his role as the leader of the meeting, helped place
the chairs in the room, and selected a chair to sit in. I did not want to cause a distraction or mess up the
flow of the AA meeting. As the meeting began, I introduced myself to the members of the group and
stated my purpose for being at the AA meeting. When questioned about my role, I stated that I am a
nursing student who wanted to experience an AA meeting, to learn more about addiction and how it
impacts individuals lives, and what role I can do, as a nurse, to provide care for a current and/or
recovering alcoholic. This response sparked an interest in many of the members, as they began to ask
about my schooling. I answered questions, such as where I want to school, what I liked about the
program, and how I viewed those with addiction. I kept it short and sweet, as I did not want to take too
much time out of the meeting to discuss myself. As the topic of discussion moved from my schooling
to the meeting, I quietly observed and actively listened to the various stories and advice. After the
meeting finished, I thanked both the leader and the members for sharing their personal stories with me
and allowing me the opportunity to witness an AA

President Ronald Reagan s Speech
On June 12, 1987, the United States 40th President, Ronald Reagan, gave one of his most famous
speeches, Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate. In this speech Reagan s aimed to expand democracy
through Easter Berlin. Throughout the speech, Reagan used rhetorical devices that made his speech
affective. By balancing ethos, logos and pathos in his speech Reagan was able to persuade the Soviet
Union leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, and his partisans take a step forward in creating a world piece and
reunite East Berlin with West Berlin. Reagan also used repetition, strands as well as Maslow s
Hierarchy of Needs to address his audience s principal needs.
In this speech, Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate, President Ronald Reagan used problem solution
organization style to get his main points across. Throughout the speech, Reagan provided some of the
issues that the people in East and West Berlin faced and then proffered few simple solutions that could
resolve those problems. Demolishing the Berlin Wall was one solution that was proposed by Reagan.
The Berlin Wall service as a barrier that divided families and friends, which interrupted; the Berlin
Wall also prevents democracy from spreading to East Germany. Reagan used language that was easy
to comprehend, he knew who his audiences were whether they oppose him or supposed him. As a
formal actor he knows how to grab his audience s attention. By verbalizing the past, the present and
the future Reagan was able to illustrate the condition

Analyzing The Song What It s Like
Most of us at some point in time, or even multiple times, have asked ourselves if we are using our
time wisely. This can have various meanings. Relating to the collage we completed before hand, my
main focal point was to use lyrics that had the most meaning to me; After picking the quotes I wanted,
I realized that my focus showed how important time is to me. The quotes placed in my college all
seemed to relate to time in my mind. So, in the following lyrics, I found a way to relate them to time
in our life, and tie these songs together in a way they may not have been connected before.
In Everlast s song What It s Like the lyric God forbid you ever have to walk a mile in her shoes; cause
then you might know what it s like can mean a variety of different things. Based on the tone of the
singer s voice and the sound of the song, What It s Like can be considered a depressing song about the
real situations in life. We choose not to think about the brutality that certain individuals have to go
through cause then you might know what it s like according to Everlast. The band chooses to include
these lyrics in the song to show people that we can not understand what a person is going through or
why they choose to pursue a certain action until we know what the individual has gone through.
Because the individuals in What It s Like did not put themselves in Mary s shoes they judged her
immediately on her decision to get an abortion without questioning the reason why she is

difficulties depending on the situation a person was in but every Soviet citizen had to overcome
difficulties. In Sofia Petrovna there was the challenge of overcoming life with her son being in the

loses hope that her son Kolya will be released early she tells people her son was released early. By
having a positive outlook on life she forgets the troubling situation she is in and continues to live her

Persuasive Essay On Human Cloning
Human cloning is the genetically identical copy of a human. Human cloning has a history of not going
as planned and ending up with a lot of death. However, They can also be a huge benefit to our society.
It depends on how much people know about human cloning, and how developed human cloning is at
the time.
Bioethics is the study of the ethical issues emerging from advances in biology and medicine. It is also
moral discernment as it relates to medical policies and practice. In bioethics, the ethics of cloning
refers to a variety of ethical positions regarding the practice and possibilities of cloning, especially
human cloning. While many of these views are religious in origin, the questions raised by cloning are
faced by secular perspectives as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Goal Of The Simulation
STD # 1566303 The goal of the simulation was to use appropriate change levers to persuade a critical
mass of Spectrum Sunglass employees to adopt a new initiative. My scenario was a CEO trying to
convince critical mass that a change in the organization s strategy and products was essential.
Sustainable development for business and linking the themes of sustainability and innovation was
critical to the company s future. It was a low urgency situation with the CEO trying to be proactive
and to stay ahead of the industry trend to stay competitive. I was not sure how to approach the
simulation for the organizational change. I did not know where to start and what change levers to
apply in what sequence. So the approach that I took was to apply the mass change levers first such as
town hall meetings, companywide emails, clarify organization values, walk the talk, and revise reward
system. I attempted to reach the mass in short period of time. This seemed to be more efficient way to
reach more people in a short time. I applied incremental change levers such as conduct private
interviews, build the coalition support, consultant approval and provide external skill building much
later in the process. Unfortunately, I was not successful in achieving a critical mass of adopters within
the time allotted. Most of my actions had no effect on the organization. My credibility kept going
down, and in the end no one believed I was credible. I have lost credibility and employees were less

Philosophy Statement
When I finished junior high school I enrolled in a training program to teach elementary students in
some of the most remote regions of Mexico. I was excited about the prospect of teaching reading,
writing, and mathematics to underprivileged students in areas of my country that needed education
more than anything else to bring them into the modern era. I had seen the difference a few good
teachers had made in my life. It was one of my earliest ideas to help the youth in my country rise
above the limitations of their past and see the possibilities available to them with hard work in school.
My father did not think it was such a good idea to allow his 16 year old daughter to travel without
family or familiar chaperones to strange and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I would have preferred to dabble in other courses and learn more of the liberal arts, I felt
an obligation to find, and finish a program that would yield the greatest monetary rewards for my
effort. I put my nose to the grindstone and worked to become the best accountant I could be. However,
as much as I wanted to become an accountant, I knew I would prefer teaching accounting more than
actually being an accountant.
Over time the subjects I want to teach have changed, but my enthusiasm is still the same. I keep
thinking that there is no better place to change the world than in a classroom. In the beginning I
wanted to become an elementary school teacher, and later I wanted to become an accounting teacher.
Now I want to become a Spanish teacher at the postsecondary level.
So why do I want to become a Spanish teacher? I love the idea of teaching something once and
knowing my students will be able to apply or share their information many times. For instance, if I
teach my students how to casually greet native Spanish speakers instead of using formal addresses that
are found in textbooks; the next time they go to a Mexican restaurant, they can speak to their server in
a friendlier manner. Even if this seems insignificant, the Mexican waiter will appreciate the effort and
the American will be better off than if they only established a monolingual conversation. Connecting

Hakuna Matat No Worries
Hakuna Matata: no worries A Swahili phrase, but a global philosophy to live by. For those especially
living a fast paced life this idea may be burdensome to apply. There is always another task to be
completed, yet many don t. It is healthy to take a moment or few to one s self which is what Apple
portrays in the ad Music Every Day for the iPhone 5. Apple shows moments where people are pausing
their lives to clear their minds. There are lots of emotions portrayed in the ad, including excitement
and amazement, but also tranquility. Moments which might not be monumental, but important impact
a person in the long term are quickly shot through the ad. Apple offers viewers to attain a zen like state
with the iPhone 5 wherever they may be by showing them in daily mundane tasks. While there are
many moments captured in the ad, the zen like complex is slightly hidden. Giving customers the taste
of this zen like state may just spark their interest in the iPhone 5. This calm, relaxed sensation is seen
clearly with the first two scenes. The sun is rising in the background and the town scattered with white
buildings is still asleep. A boy is slumped over on a ledge, headphones on, as he watches the sunlight
seep through his fingers. Although his face cannot be seen, the idea that he is in a zen like state is seen
in his posture. Slumped over, but still relaxed, the guy seems to be the only one awake as the sun is
rising. With his choice of music, he absorbs the warmth the sun

Costing and Pricing Decisions Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS Costing and Pricing Decisions Cost Allocations Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Three common costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs and opportunity costs (Jiambalvo, 2007). Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs. A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about the company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based on sunk costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on being able to price their future products appropriately. Opportunity Costs An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of this would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying your credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a result of not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo, 2007). It is common to have experiences in life where there is a desire, after self realization, for a new start as a better person. In fantasy, an improved version of one s self would not be plagued with issues, rather they are idealized as being carefree and composed. The idea of future improvement, in combination with the macabre chaos caused by Wright s use of symbolism, intensify the relatability of the poem. • 23. Persuasive Speech About Breakfast Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Who here didn t have their breakfast this morning? I bet most of you did. I used to be one of those too until last month when I did a research on Biology and by chance, came across a fact about how important breakfast is. I believe that as soon as you heard the topic, you will assume that I am going to give you a life lesson as your parents do. Breakfast is the most essential meal is spoken by every mother, yet the reasons why we should eat breakfast have never been clarified more clearly and seriously. The following speech will highlight that breakfast is required for three main reasons; first, it helps improve our grades; second, it controls our balance diet; and more importantly; it can promote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To correct all misunderstandings, breakfast indeed helps us control healthy diets and even lose weight. How? Technically, skipping breakfast means your sugar level in blood drops even lower than the required standard. As a result, it will trigger your hunger and you will have less energy, which means that by lunch time you would be starving to death, and feel like you can eat a whole cow. As a consequence, you would end up overeating. What s about if we just ensure that we do not over consume for the rest of the day? Admittedly, for that case, you might lose some weight, but according to www. prevention.com, a reward of longterm skipping breakfast is to gain dangerous belly fat in return. • 24. Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States... Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier s Creed starting on their first day. Even with this strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them. Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information and statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United States Army is pencil whipping 350 1 training. At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She then explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet. I was appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the integrity that I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there was never enough time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Week 1 Child Welfare Workforce and NASW Standards Provide an overview of historical views on children and identify how this will impact your role in empowering families, protecting children from maltreatment, and engaging in ethical decision making as a child welfare worker. Historically, children were viewed very differently than they are today. Adults thought of children as being seen and not heard. Children were expected to work in textile factories or as chimney sweeps in order to provide for their families. They did not have rights and in the family, children followed the rule do as you re told so they would survive. It was not until 1875 when the thought of the rights of children came about. Rights of children stemmed from their status dependent, immature individuals who require care, protection, and guidance to survive and flourish, (Downs, Moore McFadden, 2009, p. 7). Politicians thought children deserved an education and protection, so they introduced child saving activities that advocated for the improving the lives of and conditions for children. Since this was enacted orphanages were developed for communities that experienced disasters and orphan trains helped in resettling over 100,000 children. • 26. Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed. But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a woman s power to exercise their control over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence. In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute. Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics. Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story is written from the point of view of a hamster who spends his tortured life entrapped in a cage. From the first point in this story it is clear that the purpose of the writing is not to understand the hamster, but rather to analyse the different actions of the people, and to discover that how they act towards the hamsters reflects on their character. It is curious to view the everyday interactions of people through a different set of eyes, that is done by humanizing the narrator s perspective. Based on the actions of the many people and the treatment of the class pet, the author suggests that human nature is very much a product of the financial circumstances a person is subjected to. There are a couple of key characters in this story, the first of which is Simon. He is just one of many strikingly similar students in homeroom 2k. Simon, like many of the students is irresponsible, and unsympathetic towards the hamsters. Simon jeopardizes the lives of the hamsters by attempting to joke around instead of completing his assigned task, which involves giving them food and water. The Catholic Church, which began during the glory days of the Roman Empire, became the driving force through the Middle Ages in Europe, managing to formulate a unified religious ruling body, a deep spirituality, and oversaw cultural preservation that helped shape the history of Europe during this period. The Church managed to integrate herself into medieval society, where she could become part of the everyday life of the people. She did this through a structured hierarchy, with the Pope, or the Bishop of Rome, as her head, and other bishops were given dioceses around the world, and under each bishop were priests who would minister to the people. This structured hierarchy came about with the collapse of the Roman Empire. When the Emperor Constantine came to power, he recognized and supported Christianity, and he created a new capital for the empire in the east. This could be a major factor in why the island was so heavily contested for hundreds of years; the island is arguably a great launching point for the French Navy to attack the British. With communication during this time period being relatively slow given the lack of modern technology, it would have been easy for the island to be captured by the French without mainland Britain immediately knowing. Thus, there was a great incentive on the part of the British to keep this island well defended so as to protect it from any potential French attacks. Such an assertion can be bolstered not only by the fact that Queen Elizabeth I decided to build a castle off the southern coast of the island in 1594, which could have been done to provide ample protection of the south coastline, but also the production of the map itself in 1600 which is now held by the Yale Center for British Art. Māori society was tribal; Each person belonged to a family (whanau), a sub tribe (hapu), and the full tribe (iwi). When questioned about my role, I stated that I am a nursing student who wanted to experience an AA meeting, to learn more about addiction and how it impacts individuals lives, and what role I can do, as a nurse, to provide care for a current and/or recovering alcoholic. This response sparked an interest in many of the members, as they began to ask about my schooling. I kept it short and sweet, as I did not want to take too much time out of the meeting to discuss myself. • 45. Analyzing The Song What It s Like Most of us at some point in time, or even multiple times, have asked ourselves if we are using our time wisely. This can have various meanings. Relating to the collage we completed before hand, my main focal point was to use lyrics that had the most meaning to me; After picking the quotes I wanted, I realized that my focus showed how important time is to me. The quotes placed in my college all seemed to relate to time in my mind. So, in the following lyrics, I found a way to relate them to time in our life, and tie these songs together in a way they may not have been connected before. In Everlast s song What It s Like the lyric God forbid you ever have to walk a mile in her shoes; cause then you might know what it s like can mean a variety of different things. Based on the tone of the singer s voice and the sound of the song, What It s Like can be considered a depressing song about the real situations in life. We choose not to think about the brutality that certain individuals have to go through cause then you might know what it s like according to Everlast. The band chooses to include these lyrics in the song to show people that we can not understand what a person is going through or why they choose to pursue a certain action until we know what the individual has gone through. Because the individuals in What It s Like did not put themselves in Mary s shoes they judged her immediately on her decision to get an abortion without questioning the reason why she is ... • 52. The Goal Of The Simulation STD # 1566303 The goal of the simulation was to use appropriate change levers to persuade a critical mass of Spectrum Sunglass employees to adopt a new initiative. My scenario was a CEO trying to convince critical mass that a change in the organization s strategy and products was essential. Sustainable development for business and linking the themes of sustainability and innovation was critical to the company s future. It was a low urgency situation with the CEO trying to be proactive and to stay ahead of the industry trend to stay competitive. I was not sure how to approach the simulation for the organizational change. I did not know where to start and what change levers to apply in what sequence. So the approach that I took was to apply the mass change levers first such as town hall meetings, companywide emails, clarify organization values, walk the talk, and revise reward system. I attempted to reach the mass in short period of time. This seemed to be more efficient way to reach more people in a short time. I applied incremental change levers such as conduct private interviews, build the coalition support, consultant approval and provide external skill building much later in the process. Unfortunately, I was not successful in achieving a critical mass of adopters within the time allotted. Most of my actions had no effect on the organization. My credibility kept going down, and in the end no one believed I was credible. I have lost credibility and employees were less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was excited about the prospect of teaching reading, writing, and mathematics to underprivileged students in areas of my country that needed education more than anything else to bring them into the modern era. I had seen the difference a few good teachers had made in my life. It was one of my earliest ideas to help the youth in my country rise above the limitations of their past and see the possibilities available to them with hard work in school. I put my nose to the grindstone and worked to become the best accountant I could be. However, as much as I wanted to become an accountant, I knew I would prefer teaching accounting more than actually being an accountant. Over time the subjects I want to teach have changed, but my enthusiasm is still the same. I keep thinking that there is no better place to change the world than in a classroom. In the beginning I wanted to become an elementary school teacher, and later I wanted to become an accounting teacher. Now I want to become a Spanish teacher at the postsecondary level. So why do I want to become a Spanish teacher? I love the idea of teaching something once and knowing my students will be able to apply or share their information many times. For instance, if I teach my students how to casually greet native Spanish speakers instead of using formal addresses that are found in textbooks; the next time they go to a Mexican restaurant, they can speak to their server in a friendlier manner. Even if this seems insignificant, the Mexican waiter will appreciate the effort and the American will be better off than if they only established a monolingual conversation.
